What's the story with those kids? How good are they? Are they top LA prospects? Possible 4 stars? 3 stars? Just wondering.

Joseph Paul is a 24/7 3-star with offers from Florida, Florida State, and A&M.
Jermaine Roberts is a 4-star already with FSU and A&M offers.
Look to be a pair we'd be really excited to have on board!

2015 S Deionte Thompson of West Orange-Stark committed to Alabama today. The good news is Earl Thomas posted on OrangeBloods that he spoke with the staff after it all went down and he should have an offer in the coming days. Thompson was quoted as saying he still plans on taking visits.

DB Edward Paris is announcing tomorrow. Seems all set on LSU. tbh Paris is a nice prospect but I am not as high on him as others. I think Jamal Adams and DSG are both better prospects.
After not getting a single recruit out of Texas this year it looks like LSU is making a push back into the State with Hardeman, Brown and possibly Paris for 2014.
2014 is such a good year for DB's in TX but my top 5 DBs right now would look like this:
1.Tony Brown
2.Nick Harvey
3.Jamal Adams
4. DSG
5. Ed Paris

Update on OL Terrell Cuney after Saturday's Junior Day (OrangeBloods):
"The highlight was that all the people there love their team," Cuney said. "And the coaches are really cool. And the place looked great."
"I met Mack Brown a while back in Jasper, so it wasn't my first time," Cuney said. "And getting the offer was jus a blessing. Words can't describe that feeling."
"They're standing No. 1 on my list still," Cuney said shortly after his Texas visit concluded.
"I plan on committing wherever I'm going before the football season," Cuney said.
"The practice was awesome. The OL/DL went at it all day and they all did great to me," Cuney said.

Quotes from TE Anthony Jones of New Orleans, LA (OrangeBloods):
"I really enjoyed the campus, loved the coaches there. It was a great environment to be around," Jones said. "I'm really cool with coach (Bruce) Chambers, I talked to coach (Larry) Porter and I talked to coach Mack Brown. "
"This was my first time meeting them. I had done my research on them and I had talked to coach Chambers on the phone before," Jones said. "It was great. I went into Mack Brown's office and talked. I was just happy to be a part of it at the University of Texas."
"They like my body style since I'm 6-6. They said I have great hands and good speed for a guy my size," Jones said. "They said I'd be a flex out tight end for them."
"I like Texas more than Louisville though," he said.
"I'm going to make a decision in the spring time," Jones said. "I'm just going to talk it over with my parents and my coach. I want to have it out of the way."

Update on LB Otaro Alaka after he received his Texas offer yesterday (24/7):
“He (Oscar Giles) told me they met as a staff [Monday] morning and decided to offer me,” Alaka said. “He passed the phone to Coach (Mack) Brown then to Coach (Manny) Diaz.”
“I don't hold it against them (not offering at the Junior Day),” Alaka said. “They told me they were going to be taking things slowly. It just came up in the staff meeting that they decided to offer me. That's all that really matters.”
“I don't really have a list of favorites,” Alaka said. “They're (Texas) at the top of the choices I have.”
“I like the balance between academics and the football program,” Alaka said.
“It helps a little (that Texas has a history with Nigerian players),” Alaka said. “There must be a reason they all went there because it turned out to be a great fit.”
“He (Alaka's father) gets back Saturday morning,” Alaka said. “I'll probably talk to him Saturday night.”
“It makes me think about it a little bit (that Texas already has one LB commitment),” Alaka said. “That's the main thing I want to talk to my dad about is when I want to make decision."
"My initial time frame was to wait until after spring football at the end of May,” he added. “I want to talk to my dad about what he thinks.”

WR KD Cannon talks about the Texas Junior Day (24/7):
“He (Darrell Wyatt) and Coach Mack Brown both sat me down in the office and told me about the receivers they're recruiting and the quarterbacks they're recruiting,” Cannon said. “It was a great talk. He basically said he wants me to be there to try and take Mike Davis' spot when he leaves.”
“They run kind of what we run at my school and what I'm used to,” Cannon said. “They'll use more four-wide looks and use a faster tempo. I like that.”
“That was my favorite thing was watching the offense,” Cannon said. “The practice atmosphere was good. They have great players and coaches at Texas and I liked that everyone was real respectful on the field.”
“It was about what I expected,” Cannon said. “I wanted to look at the new offense because I'd already seen the campus and met the coaches. I saw what I wanted to see."
“The visit helped Texas' chances with me,” he added. “Every receiver wants to go to a school where they'll get the ball.”
“I know he's (Jerrod Heard) going there and that's good to know,” Cannon said. “Every receiver wants to go to a place where they know they'll have a big-time quarterback throwing them the ball.”
“I think the city makes the school seem bigger than it is,” Cannon said. “When you walk around campus everything is really right there, you're just putting this college in the middle of this big city. It's not a problem for me.”

Update on OL Jovan Pruitt after missing Texas' Junior Day (24/7):
“This last weekend I didn’t get to go to their junior day because I made a bad decision,” Pruitt told Hookem.com. “Since that happened, I’m working on taking a trip there sometime soon. I plan to make it down for the spring game and also go do another one of their summer camps like I did last year.”
“I haven’t spoken to them yet,” said Pruitt. “But I’ve definitely been trying. I’ve tried to get in contact with Coach (Bruce) Chambers and Coach (Stacy) Searels. So far I haven’t been able to reach them. I’m still working on getting in touch.”
“Texas is a school I’m definitely interested in,” he explained. “They are one of the schools sticking out to me. It’s them, Alabama, Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas Tech."
“I’ve been offered by all of them except Texas. I got the Alabama offer earlier this week, Oklahoma offered in January, Baylor offered me at their junior day and Tech offered me a couple of weeks ago. So I’m hoping it all works out when I go down to Texas. It would mean a lot,” Pruitt added.
“I still look highly upon the football program down there,” Pruitt said. “I like their tradition and how big of a legacy they are. Over the last few years they might not have been as good as they're used to being, but I know Mack Brown will get them back into the BCS rankings real soon. They’ll be contenders again in no time.”

Highly touted '15 RB/ATH Jacques Patrick of Timber Creek High School (Fla.) hopes to camp at Texas too meet Larry Porter, according to 24/7.
“Texas contacted me about two weeks ago,” Patrick told Hookem.com. “It was the running backs coach, Larry Porter, and Coach (Manny) Diaz. They told my coaches that they really liked me and requested my latest highlight film. They’re going to evaluate it and then possibly offer me here soon.”
“I’m planning on visiting. I’ll most likely visit this summer, but possibly beforehand. I want to make it in for one of their camps though, so I can get some work in with Coach Porter,” said Patrick.
“I love their offensive style of play,” Patrick explained. “As a running back, it really sticks out to me. It’s very physical and I’m a physical back, so it suits me well. I love the fact that they use their running backs a lot. I also love the different ways they use them. That’s one of the main things I like about Texas.”
“They would definitely be a school I would highly consider,” he said. “If they offered me, it will be big. Texas really doesn’t offer kids in the state of Florida much, so if they do, that means they probably think a lot about me and believe I’m one of the top running backs in the country. I know that I would be very interested in them.”
“Florida is the early favorite for me,” said Patrick. “I would say that Florida State is a close second. Honestly though, I am in no rush. I’m open to everyone. Out of state doesn’t matter to me. I just want to go where I feel the most comfortable, wherever that may be.”

Latest with S Jamal Adams who will be in Austin this weekend. This is from A&M's 24/7 site:
“I’m not a big fan of junior days because you can’t get that one-on-one attention,” Adams said “This allows me to get down there, see the players and coaches again, and break down some stuff with the coaches again. I already have a good bond with those guys so I’m trying to make it even better. I just want to chill with everyone...Bonding that’s what I’m really trying to do.”
“I mean, I’m not really planning on committing when I go there (Texas), but I just want to figure out a few things,” he said. “I really just want to take my time and enjoy [the recruiting process] because a lot of people I know wish they could de-commit, I mean they can de-commit, but they wish they took their time. That makes me want to take my time with it.”
“That’s a plus too,” he said. “If I did choose Texas I would be going there with some guys (Heard, Gresham, Knox) that I’ve already bonded with and established great relationships with. They’ve tried to get me to commit already but I’m not ready to do that just yet.”
“I’m not for sure yet but I’m planning on it,” he said of possibly visiting College Station this spring. “I talked to A&M a week or two ago and we just talked about how they would give me a good opportunity to play and earn starting time as a freshman. That’s really the main key I got out of it.”
“Out of state it would be Ole Miss, Florida, Bama trying to get at me pretty hard, as well as Ohio State and Michigan,” he said. “I just have to break it down to the five that I want to take a trip to. I’m kind of warming up to USC as well. They’re starting to hit me up a lot on Facebook.”
“Finding out who the fake ones are and what coaches actually want you there is the hardest part,” he said. “Just talking with them, the communication is key. That’s the easiest way of finding who’s real and who really wants you, just communicating with all these coaches. I feel like there are some schools that are being real with me like A&M, Texas, OU, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Florida.”

Per HornsNation, WR Garrett Gray of Marble Falls were at Texas yesterday at the open practice. He described the practice as "very impressive". He has recently been in contact with Applewhite and he could be a potential late bloomer. He is 6'4, 205lbs and runs a 4,43 40-yard dash. 81 receptions, 1,205 yards and 20 touchdowns.

“He told me that the visit went very well,” the source explained. “I know he enjoyed the more personal setting. Visiting with the coaches and talking with Coach (Oscar) Giles were the two things he really mentioned besides watching practice. He left impressed with Texas.”
“He’s still very high on them,” the source said. “They need to show him something this season though.”

Quotes from the father of S Jamal Adams (24/7):
“The idea of when he will commit to a school has come up, as you would expect, and it’s something we have discussed in detail,” explained Mr. Adams. “I told him to take his time, enjoy it for right now, and just let it be. Jamal says he wants to enjoy his senior year and not worry about when he has to make a decision.”
“We’re not going to play recruiting games,” he told Hookem.com. “I’m not into that crap and I’m not going to let my son be either. I’m not going to have Jamal pick a school then come to me and say ‘oh Dad I think I like so and so better’, then start this whole long process that kids these days like to do. That’s not happening. Once he commits somewhere, that’s it. That will be all she wrote. He’s not going to be jumping around from school to school. I raised him where his word is the most important thing he has. He’s not going back on his word once he gives it to a school.”
“We’re going to go to Ole Miss, back to Oklahoma, Florida for sure, possibly to Texas A&M and some other places,” Adams said. “He'll be running in the Texas Relays, so we'll be in Austin for that and we'll take another visit to UT. We're hoping to see the spring game actually.”

“I wouldn't say there's something keeping me from it (committing to Texas),” Bonney said. “I haven't had a chance to look at all of the schools I want to see.”
“I grew up a Texas fan,” Bonney said. “I used to go to a game every year. My dad would drive me up there. It's a great school academically. There's nothing wrong with Texas and it's always been a place I've liked.”
“My mom wants me to go to the best school academically,” Bonney said. “She's an alum of LSU and she's a little biased but she likes Texas and the other schools. My dad is looking at more of a football situation with the scheme and finding the right fit.”
“I don't have a No. 1 school per se,” Bonney said. “I'm trying to narrow it down, but Texas would be a really good choice for me.”

Quotes from LB Otaro Alaka after his visit to College Station (24/7):
“I visited College Station on Saturday and it went well,” Alaka said. “I really had a good time and had fun. I enjoyed getting to see everything, but really liked watching them practice the most.”
“They were both sort of similar,” explained Alaka. “For me though, I would say that Texas’ junior day probably stood out to me more than Texas A&M’s did. I liked it a little more.”
“Texas is still my number one school,” he told Hookem.com. “My top five is Texas, then Texas A&M, Oklahoma, California and then LSU. I’d like to choose from one of them before the end of March I think. That’s probably what will happen.”
“The Longhorns are recruiting me really hard right now,” said Alaka. “For someone else to be my top school will be tough. They would have to show me a lot more interest since Texas is showing me the most and has been showing the most.”

Latest with DT Cedric Johnson of Rowlett (24/7):
“Right now Baylor is my number one,” said Johnson. “Then it is Tulsa, LSU and Oklahoma. That’s my top four at the moment.”
“I went to watch them practice on Saturday. I liked it a lot. I like how fun the practice was and how fun the coaches made it. Honestly, I liked it a tad better than what I saw when I was at Texas. They had a much more positive attitude that they came out with. They played music that set the mood right and it was just a lot of fun,” Johnson explained.
“I’m still very interested in them (Texas),” Johnson said. “I would want to visit the campus again first though. I would also want to spend a lot more time with Coach (Bo) Davis. That would be the biggest thing for me. I’d like some more one-on-one time with him and have the chance to get to know him better. If those two things happened, I think they would be in my top list of schools again. But I would definitely need those two things to happen first.”
“I’m looking at the possibility of making a decision after the spring,” he told Hookem.com. “That’s a maybe on that. Nothing is set yet, but that might be when I do it.”

Last week, it seemed like Cy Falls outside linebacker Otaro Alaka was a lock to commit to Texas.
But when comes to recruiting things can change in an instant as Alaka learned when he picked up an offer from Texas A&M at junior day this weekend.
“Coach (Kevin) Sumlin came up and talked to me. He extended the offer, and I was really excited,” Alaka said. “He said he would love to have me. I spoke to my parents about it, and they were also really happy about the new opportunity for me.”
A Rivals.com four-star prospect, Alaka has dreams of developing into the next Damontre Moore and couldn’t help but envisioning himself in an Aggie uniform during his time in College Station.
“When I watched them practice, I kept picturing myself playing there. I paid close attention to the linebacker drills and really liked what I saw,” Alaka said. “Coach (Marcel) Yates and Coach (Mark) Hagen said they really liked my film and feel I could be a great player for them”
Although the two schools no longer play each other on the gridiron, Texas and Texas A&M will have an old fashioned shootout on the recruiting trail this month.
Alaka plans to make his decision by the end of March and although he says California, LSU and Oklahoma are still in the race, it’s clear these former rivals are ahead of the pack.
“Both are really good schools. I know Texas A&M is doing some great things in the SEC and it would be a great place to play,” he said. “I really enjoyed my time at Texas too. Coach (Manny) Diaz told me he really liked me and wanted me to play for him. It was a really good environment.”
Will be interesting to see how this one plays out. He's telling both sides positive things. Definitely up in the air.

Quotes from Zeke Riser, from HornsNation:
“I’m definitely pumped up about it,” Riser said. “If nothing else, I have a lot of experience to offer, especially with those younger guys. These guys are super talented -- otherwise, they wouldn’t be at Texas -- so me having already played three years, I can bring a lot of experience to the table.”
“That’s really the driving force (that ge grew up a Texas fan),” Riser said. “I think I would’ve regretted it if I hadn’t at least taken the chance. It’s really going to work out best for me as a player and then after college family-wise.”
“I wouldn’t go to any place that I wasn’t expecting to compete for a starting spot,” Riser said. “I’ve never sat on the bench in my life and I don’t plan to at Texas. I’m definitely going to be fighting for a starting spot and at the very least in the playing rotation. I’m not coming to Texas just because it’s a big name. I’m coming to Texas to play.”
“Coach Giles is awesome,” Riser said. “Seeing the way he coaches and what he expects out of his players, I can really relate to his coaching style. We’re on the same page. I think it’s going to work out real well. I’m excited to get to work.”
“They’re expecting me to come in and play,” he said. “They told me I need to be ready as soon as I get here because I don’t have time to slow down and pick up the scheme. That’s OK with me, I know how things work. Again, I’m not going there to sit on the bench, and they’re not expecting me to.”

“It was a great visit,” Watkins said. “Getting to watch practice was definitely the highlight of the day. Just getting to watch [Quandre] Diggs and [Carrington] Byndom work with Coach [Duane] Akina was a great experience.”
“He's (Akina) always excited,” Watkins said. “Every drill, everything he does he's excited. I like his coaching style. He's not a boring type. He wants you to get better.”
“He likes his techniques that he teaches,” Watkins said. “My dad wants the best for me.”
“I probably will (attend the Texas spring game),” Watkins said. “It's not too much to drive down there.”
“I'm looking for a place with great academics because I want to go somewhere I can get a good degree,” Watkins said. “I want to be around a good coaching staff. I want the place with the best college experience.”
“Distance doesn't matter to me, but it makes a difference to my parents,” Watkins said. “They've told me they want to be able to see me play.”
“The way I look at I've got 11 months to make a decision,” Watkins said. “I'm not in a hurry.”

Quotes from LB Dillon Bates of Ponte Vedra, FL (24/7):
“I’ve really kept in great contact with Coach (Manny) Diaz since being offered,” Bates told Hookem.com. “I’ve also been talking to Coach (Mack) Brown on Facebook. I call both of those coaches every week, so I actually talk to them a few times a week. You could definitely say I talk to them a lot.”
“Coach Diaz seems like a really energetic guy,” said Bates. “To me it seems like he would be a fun person to be coached by because of that. I feel like he would bring a lot of energy to the field and a lot of energy to the practices. I think he would be a real big motivator who is energetic and can get you fired up on the sidelines, which is something I really like.”
“I know Jackson Jeffcoat pretty well from when our dads played together for the Cowboys,” he explained. “We’re all really good family friends. So I’ve reached out to Jackson to get a different view on things. He’s told me how much of a family atmosphere it is there and that if I go there then I’ll always be a part of the team. He tells me the atmosphere there is great and that so is the city of Austin. He says it’s really a great place all around. It’s been nice to get that inside look at the school like that.”
“We actually got the dates from Coach Diaz a few days ago that would be the best times for me to visit,” Bates said. “I need to sit down and plan out a weekend or a few days that we could get out there to see Texas. My guess is that we get down there for the spring game. That’s what I would like to aim for is to see a spring practice and the spring game. If for some reason that doesn’t happen, I’ll come down this summer, but I’m shooting for the spring game and I think that’s when it will be.”

Update on DE Solomon Thomas of Coppell after his unofficial visit to Texas last weekend (24/7):
“I enjoyed myself and I had a good time,” Thomas said. “I liked seeing how they practice, how they get after it and how Coach Giles is at practice. It was good to see all of that.”
“It was the first time my whole family had been down there,” Thomas said. “They got a comfortable feel and it got me more comfortable with Texas.”
“They're the school that's always been talking to me the most,” Thomas said. “I have a strong relationship with them, but I have a strong relationship with some other schools as well.”
“I like Texas a lot,” Thomas said. “I like the way they run their program, the academics and the alumni connections. That's why I like them so much is because it's not just football that attracts me to them. It's in-state and it's close to home. I already have a bunch of friends who go there, so all of that stuff is good.”
“Texas always has good fans,” Thomas said. “They always have good traditions and I like that.”
“There were a couple of guys who asked me if I was Solomon Thomas, and I told them I was and they asked me about my recruitment,” Thomas said. “I saw my fourth grade teacher there. It was good to see her because she's a Texas alum and was telling me good things about Texas.”
“I'll release my top-five before the season starts,” Thomas said. “Then I'll visit those five after the season.”
“I'm looking for a place where I can be successful with or without football, a place were I can have good connections after college so I can provide for my family and for myself,” Thomas said. “Somewhere that can help me develop into the best player I can be. A place where I can have fun for four years, develop around good players and just be myself with a good team.”

"I hadn't seen my mail in a while, but I got letters from Oklahoma, a lot form Oregon, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State and Alabama," Cuney said this week. "Those were the main ones that I saw."
"I think A&M was going to offer if I went to their junior day but I didn't have a chance to make it because we had a regional powerlifting meet," Cuney said. "I think Oklahoma might have offered. They've been hitting me up a lot lately. Auburn too, either they have or they're going to."
"I'm just blessed. Texas still my number one school right now, but all this new interest makes you want to take a visit before stopping everything," Cuney said. "I just don't want to do that right now, I want to look around a little bit, see some places before I make my decisions."
"I'll try to get to some places this spring sometime, try to get to as many as I can," he said. "I want to come to Oklahoma State, want to check out Auburn, want to try to get to Oklahoma, maybe a couple others."
"What stood out is how cool the coaches were. And just the facilities itself, it's beautiful there," Cuney said. "From the time I walked in, to the end of the day, I liked the whole atmosphere there."
"He (Stacy Searels) stays fired up. That's how my coach is (at Jasper) too," Cuney said. "It wouldn't be too much of a big deal to go to college, it would just make me work a little harder."

Press release from UT on the new hire:
Austin - Patrick Suddes, former associate director of football operations at the University of Alabama, has been named to the newly-created position of director of player personnel at The University of Texas, head coach Mack Brown announced Thursday.
"When I was growing up, The University of Texas was always one of the programs that I thought about as a great place to be because of its tradition and history as a winning program," Suddes said. "This is the only job I would have left the Alabama program for. I think being able to grow within a system and building something new here is an opportunity I couldn't pass up."
In his role, Suddes will serve as the point person on all of the Longhorns' recruiting efforts, as well as coordinate the Texas Football camps and High School Coaches Clinic.
"I worked for Coach (Nick) Saban for years and learned everything I know from him," Suddes said. "I can't thank him enough for all of the great opportunities he gave me. Everyone at Alabama was great to work with, and I appreciate all of them so much. But, when this came up, I was really interested in using what I learned and taking it somewhere else and trying to help out in whatever way I can."
Suddes comes to Texas after spending the last six seasons at his alma mater, Alabama, including the last five as associate director of football operations. In that role, his duties included supervising and planning the annual coaching clinic, coordinating team travel, overseeing youth and high school camps, team practice organization, overseeing the annual team banquet and the organization and evaluation of the walk-on program.
"I'm really passionate about not just helping to find and recruit the best prospects, but getting to know the kids," Suddes said. "I think it's key in this day and age because there are a lot of good players out there, but I really like being able to sit down and see what a player's makeup is.
"I think that's an exciting part for me. Having been in the pros and coming back to college, that's why I like college so much, you have such an impact on a player going from high school to college and hopefully going to the NFL. When they get to the NFL, they're pretty much set in their ways, but in college, you can really make an impact in a kid's life, especially coming to a place like this with so much pride and tradition. It's a big selling point."
Prior to his time in football operations, Suddes served one year as associate director of recruiting and video services where he oversaw all day-to-day recruiting operations, collected and prepared recruiting film for coaches evaluation, maintained the team recruiting board, helped organize and plan all recruiting events such as junior day and prospect visits, and oversaw all organization of the summer camps.
"We are so excited to have Patrick joining our staff," head coach Mack Brown said. "He's a guy that is very passionate about recruiting and building a team. He has a great deal of experience in recruiting and player personnel both at the college and pro levels. Everyone we talked to said he's the guy you need, and then Patrick knocked us out in his interview. He's a very personable guy, but he's also aggressive and competitive in his approach. I know he's a guy that will come right in and hit the ground running, which is exactly what we need. I think he's the perfect fit to build and lead our player personnel department.
"I can't thank DeLoss (Dodds) and Bill (Powers) enough for supporting us and providing us the resources to have the best people in place to help us evaluate and recruit the top prospects. This new area will be critical in the continued growth of our program, and I'm excited to be a part of its development in the years to come."
"This is a great opportunity for Patrick in his new role as director of player personnel at the University of Texas," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. "He's been on the staffs with us at LSU, in Miami with the Dolphins, and here at Alabama, and he has always done an excellent job with every responsibility he's had. I'm sure he'll do the same at Texas. We appreciate all of his hard work and dedication in terms of contributing to the success we've had through the years."
Suddes spent two seasons under Nick Saban with the Miami Dolphins, including 2005 as a defensive assistant, and 2006 as an offensive assistant. In both positions he was responsible for quality control, including breakdown and scouting reports of opponents, organizing game plans and self-scouting.
"I had a chance to be around Pat when he was with the Dolphins," said Longhorn Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams. "He was one of those ambitious young guys that was always working and doing anything he could to help the team. I'm not surprised to see he's worked his way up in the profession and had so much success. Coach Brown only hires the best, so it's exciting to have him at Texas."
In Miami, he worked with the secondary and ran the scout team offense and special teams as a defensive assistant, while working with running backs and running the scout team defense and special teams as an offensive assistant. During the offseason, he also worked in the scouting department, editing free agent and rookie film.
"The great thing about his experiences is he's worked on both the football operations end of things and on the player personnel end of things from a recruiting standpoint administratively, so he's got the unique ability to understand the full scope of Division I college football administration," said Michigan Associate AD for Football Mike Vollmar, who worked with Suddes for three years at Alabama. "He's a young guy, he's very, very talented, and he's a tireless worker. He'll do a great job."
A 2005 graduate of Alabama, Suddes began his career in 2004 as a recruiting intern at LSU where he assisted in day-to-day recruiting operations and quality control on offense and defense.
"First of all, when you think of Coach Brown, you think great coach, but what you hear all the time is great character, great leadership, and I think that's important," Suddes said. "This is someone you can really rally behind. I'm very excited to work for him. Everything about him is always positive. He's won before, he knows what it takes, he knows the system and what it takes to get there. That's exciting to go from one winning coach to another."

Texas has offered a FOURTH player from St. Augustine in New Orleans, LA. DT Courtney Garnett heard from Texas this week and he's also received offers from A&M and OU (24/7):
http://247sports.com/Player/Courtney-Garnett-25464
“Oklahoma offered me yesterday,” the 6-foot-2, 285-pound Garnet said on Thursday evening. “I talked to their DB coach and their DL coach, coach Montgomery and coach Bobby (Jack Wright). They told me they were offering both me and (for-star cornerback teammate) Jermaine Roberts."
“They really want me to come up visit up there. They want me to come to their spring game but they also have sort of like mini junior days every Saturday this month, I guess. I’m probably going there this weekend. Jermaine is going to be at Alabama, I believe, so it’s probably just going to be me and my family.”
“Texas offered me this week too,” he said. “I talked to coach Bo Davis and then Mack Brown talked to me on Facebook. He told me wanted me and that I should come down and visit. I think I’m going to go there for that on Mar. 30.”
"Texas A&M offered me just a little while back,” he said. “They’ve offered some other guys at my school too. Ole Miss and Mississippi State have offered me too. I talked to coach Greg Knox yesterday. He offered me back after their camp this summer. Every time coach Knox comes to the school he always asks about me."
“This has been a little surprising but I think a lot of schools were looking at me during the season so it’s nice to see all this.”
“I really like Texas,” he said. “I’m looking forward to going to see what’s up there. I like Oklahoma too. They really seem to like me so I want to see what they’re all about for sure.”
“I’ll always looks at every school but I really want to go out of state to play football,” he said. “Whatever happens, though, happens. I really don’t know what I’d do if LSU offered but I want to go out of state.”

Quotes from WR Garrett Gray of Marble Falls (24/7):
“I’ve now received offers from Houston, Rice, Tulsa, Iowa, Minnesota and California,” Gray said. “But here lately I’ve been hearing from schools like Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M and Duke.”
“Major Applewhite came down to the high school about a month ago to check me out,” explained Gray. “After that, they began sending me letters in the mail. Then, last week, they invited me to Austin for a visit that started last Friday.”
“The trip to Texas was very impressive,” Gray told Hookem.com. “They toured me around the athletic facilities and let me sit in on the wide receiver’s position meeting. I thought the facilities were really nice."
“They also introduced me to the coaches and then took me outside on the field to watch practice. I really liked the practice. They seemed to get a lot done in such a short amount of time. I really like their fast paced style of play they have now,” he added.
“Right now I really like Texas A&M, California and Iowa,” said Gray. “I would have to say that Texas is now up there too though. That’s in no order. I want to take my time seeing schools and really don’t have a clue when I’ll make a decision. It will probably be after I take some more official visits.”
“I just want whatever school fits me best both academically and athletically,” he said. “It will just be a combination of those two.”

Quick quote from LB Otaro Alaka. His commitment timeline suggests he could commit to Texas while in Austin for the spring game:
"We talked (Alaka and his father) and we decided that we'd like to have a decision by the end of March. Hopefully since my dad didn't get to go with me for either visit (A&M and Texas), hopefully I can go to practices or a spring game," Alaka said.

"He got an offer from those guys (TCU). He did not commit," Warren said. "I think the plan right now, over our spring break (next week), he and his family are going to visit the TCU and Texas campuses again. Then maybe they'll come back the following week and sit down, see where it goes from there."
"I feel like he's heading to make a decision sooner rather than later."
"I think although he's received other offers, and some more are in the works, I think those (TCU and Texas) are at the top of his list," Warren said.
"You're talking about a guy that's almost 6-3, 250, runs in the 4.6s in the 40," Warren said. "We finished testing this week. He benched 420, squatted I think 595, power cleaned 310. He has great explosion, great strength. And he's just a tremendous kid, a really good kid."

Lol. Everyone's backtracking. What a clusterfuck. We can't even get our scandals to exist.
I'll believe the story/stories when they officially come out. So many people just regurgitate rumors these days to seem like they weren't behind on it.
One of the most controversial parts of the new recruiting deregulations apparently will not be struck down. Especially when Texas has dipped into the Alabama staff pool to start its own player personnel department.
Former Bama assistant director/football operations Patrick Suddes was introduced Friday as Texas' first director of player personnel. Schools are allowed to have such departments under the new deregulations that are expected to go into effect on Aug. 1. There is concern about a new arms race in recruiting, but it seemingly isn't going to stop with player personnel.
Suddes, 30, came from a pool of 100 applicants and was a finalist along with LSU director of player personnel Morris Sherman. Those two schools are considered the gold standard in the so-called “quality control” positions. Not coaches, they are the extra polo shirts on those staffs considered valuable valets for the staffers. Some are paid, some are volunteers. Some of it is grunt work. The upside is that they can have a major-college power on their resume.
For example, there are five persons listed on the Alabama staff as “Football Analyst.”
Suddes has followed Alabama coach Nick Saban since becoming a recruiting intern at LSU in 2004. He will coordinate all camps and the Texas high school coaches clinic. A player personnel department could conceivably do that and more -- break down recruiting tape for assistants, for example. And/or keep a running Twitter/text dialogue with recruits.
“If I'm recruiting 30 juniors and 15 sophomores, I can spend all my time texting and doing nothing else,” Brown said.
Which is now what he wants to do. Texas is looking to have a player personnel staff of about five.
"I'm not married. I have no hobbies, other than bad basketball,” said Suddes, who has spent the last six seasons at Bama, his alma mater. “I've got nothing to do but make this right."
The NCAA's Rules Working Group is asking the NCAA board to look at a couple of the new proposed rule changes. Neither of them have to do with schools being able to establish player personnel departments.
Brown, current president of the American Football Coaches Association, is critical of some of the recruiting changes but went to the top to get his first player personnel director. Brown added that he is against staffs getting so big “that Wake Forest and East Carolina can't afford everything.”
“I do want our rules to get better,” he said. “They have been antiquated for so long. With all this shake up, as confusing as it is, it's going to get some clarity. We're going to come out of this in a better place, I think.”

“I’m not real sure what they (Texas) would have to do (to get me to de-commit from Alabama),” said Thompson. “The chance to play for Coach Saban is huge for me. I like that he works with the DBs too. That’s a plus. I like their defensive scheme and the way they run it fits the way I play. I enjoyed the city and campus life there, too. I just had a great overall experience there.”

“I just felt at home,” Hampton said. “At the end of the day everybody supporting me would be able to see me play.”

“They said if I leave or if something happens that I can come back and get my degree,” Hampton said. “The fact that no matter what happens I'll have a chance to get my degree is big.”

Kind of epitomizes what UT football has been about since the '09 season. Very few guys can man-up, go one-on-one and get the job done; specifically in the Cotton Bowl against OU. Safe bet that it won't be the last issue Texas has before the season starts.

“I go to the doctor later this month on the 25th and I should be getting real close to being cleared,” he explained. “It’s been five months and a week since it’s happened and during that time I’ve been doing what I can to get better. I just go to physical therapy and just do what they tell me.”
“I’m definitely ready to be back in a team environment and work towards winning a national championship,” Huhn said. “I’m going to start out at playing safety right now, and then we’re going to go from there once the season rolls around. I’ll get with the coaches and, depending on how things work out for me, see what exactly I’ll be doing. I just want to play football really. I don’t care what I’m doing or where it’s at, as long as I can get back to playing. I’ll help the team out however I possibly can.”
“I haven’t been to any practices yet or anything like that, so I’m looking forward to checking out the spring game when I go,” Huhn told Hookem.com. “I want to see how they look and watch my future teammates in action. I want to enjoy it all. I don’t get a chance to talk to the other guys too much, besides on Twitter, so that should be a lot of fun.”

What is HornsNation saying about OL Demetrius Knox visiting Ohio State soon?
Knox is going to Columbus on the weekend of April 19-21 to see some family, and while he is up there he will check out Ohio State. When he was asked about if Mack Brown was OK with the trip, he responded: "Hopefully haha...But we have an understanding."
Also, Alabama offered QB Foster Sawyer today, which could have somewhat of an impact.

Hornsnation has written a good read on OOS prospects that Texas is targeting. They mention DB Deandre Scott of Imhotep Institute Charter (Pa.), and claim that he has an offer from Texas. Haven't heard of him before.

He is. He moved to Texas while in junior high. Here's an update on his Ohio State visit from 24/7:
“All it really boils down to is that I am going up to visit my father in Ohio who I haven’t seen in years,” said Knox. “He is a huge Ohio State fan and wants to see the university. I have a chance to spend the day out with my dad at a place we both admire.”
“You know, it’s funny. I’ve already told the Ohio State coaches that I’m not going there and they’re okay with it. I say that I’m going to spend the day with my dad, who wants to visit OSU, and plenty of Texas fans want to hate on me about it,” Knox said.
“It’s simple really,” he explained. “If I wanted to be a Buckeye and I thought that Ohio State was the best place for me, then I could drop everything right now and commit there. That’s not the case though. I picked Texas for a reason."
“I know Texas is the place for me and that is why I committed,” Knox added. “If I wanted to take real visits, I would. It’s just spring break and I’m at home. I’m going to see family. I am 100-percent Texas.”
“We have an understanding,” Knox told Hookem.com. “They know all about it. If Mack Brown and Coach (Stacy) Searels have no problem with it and still show me love, why should anyone else trip about it? Everything is cool.”

Latest with 2015 RB Rawleigh Williams III of Dallas Bishop Lynch who could be a top priority for Texas in the next recruiting cycle (24/7):
“I didn't think it would happen so early,” Williams said. “It's a surprise, but it's a blessing at the same time. All of the people around me have prepared me for this and I know I have to stay humble and keep working.”
“I've been a Texas fan forever growing up,” Williams said. “As I've started being recruited I've kind of had to keep my options open to everyone, but I've always been a Texas fan.”
“I've visited Texas twice in the last year and I was there for the Baylor game this past season,” Williams said. “Coach Applewhite was down once to see me and Coach Chambers has been to the school twice, so they're there.”
“It shows you that a big-time coach appreciates your athleticism,” Williams said. “But it makes you want to work harder to get more and become one of the best in the country.”
“A&M is a school on the rise,” Williams said. “Oklahoma is always one of the best programs in the country, so those are two good schools recruiting me.”
“They (Williams' parents) always keep me straight,” Williams said. “They're always there to support me.”
“The location. I want to be an engineer, so that always plays a role in it as well. And playing time in a system that fits me” Williams said.

Update on 2015 S Justin Dunning of Whitehouse who will be in Austin on March 23rd for Texas' first Sophomore Day (24/7):
“It was Coach (Duane) Akina who invited me to their sophomore day,” said Dunning. “So I will be there for that. They also invited me to their spring game and I will be going to that, too.”
“I’ve already started to develop a relationship with Coach Akina,” Dunning explained. “He’s a real cool guy and I think he’s been doing a really good job of coaching up defensive backs to that NFL level. He’s definitely had a lot of success in that.”
“They were the team I grew up rooting for,” he told Hookem.com. “They were always my favorite. So I guess I just like the tradition of the school, the success of the teams they’ve had and the school itself overall."
“It will be my first trip to Texas, so I’m looking forward to it. I just want to get to know all of the coaches and build a relationship with them. I’m anxious to check out the campus to see if I really like it,” he added.
“Texas is still kind of my favorite,” said Dunning, “But I also like Texas A&M a lot. I like Oklahoma, TCU, LSU, Mississippi State, Baylor and Texas Tech, too. I’ve heard from some of those, like OU, Tech and also Alabama and LSU.”

Quotes from CB/S John Bonney of Houston Lamar (OrangeBloods):
"It was worth the trip (to Auburn). I got a chance to talk to all of the coaches. saw the campus, the stadium and everything. It was pretty cool," Bonney said. "Cam Newton was up there as well. It was a pretty good trip. I wasn't too familiar with Auburn before going there, and I learned some stuff about the school. I had known that they had won a championship a couple years back, but they really showed me how they run stuff up there."
"I'm not sure where I'll be going after this. I'm definitely trying to get up there for the Texas spring game," Bonney said. "I'll be running track and I'll be up there for Texas Relays, so I'll try to make it over for that. I'm not sure if I'll be making it to other schools, but I'll for sure be there."
"I'm definitely looking at that (programs with strong academics). Especially my parents. They definitely want me to go to a school that has good academics," Bonney said. "I want to major in business, so that's what I'm looking at right now."
"I know for sure by my senior year I want to be committed," Bonney said. "That plan is definitely still in place."
"They're (Texas) definitely high on my list. I like being able to play in the Big 12. To me, it's one of the better conferences, because you'll be playing against the best wide receivers," Bonney said. "Each year, the Big 12 is going to do well and have some of the top wide receivers picked in the draft. If you can shut people down playing there, you increase your stock."

“Texas contacted me two weeks ago,” said McGraw. “That was the first time I had heard from them. Coach (Major) Applewhite hit me up over Twitter and told me he liked my highlight tape. He passed that tape on to Coach (Duane) Akina. I then got in touch with Coach Akina and he let me know that they’re really interested in me and they want me there. He said he wants me to get on campus real soon, so I’ll be heading up there soon.”
“My friend Jermaine Roberts is going there for the Texas Relays, so I could go then,” McGraw said. “If he goes, then I may ride with him and visit Texas with him. If something did come up where he ended up not going, or I couldn’t make it with him, then I would come in either May for a visit or in June for one of their summer camps.”
“I don’t actually have a top three or anything like that,” he told Hookem.com. “There are three schools that, as of right now, are starting to separate themselves from the pack. Those three are Texas, Alabama and Oregon. They’re definitely not the only schools I’m considering, but like I said, they are beginning to look good. Right now though, everyone is still on the same page.”
“I want to narrow things down by the summer,” explained McGraw. “I’d like to have a top three then and then see what happens. I would like to just sort of analyze those three schools then commit when the time feels right.”

Update on 2015 S Larry Pryor of Sulphur Springs (24/7):
“The coaches said that they really want me at Texas. They watched my highlight tape and liked it a lot,” Pryor told Hookem.com on Monday morning. “They want me to be as interested in them as they are in me and want me to think a lot about playing for Texas. I’m going to go on the 30th and see their spring game with Daylon Mack (Gladewater, Tex. defensive tackle who holds Longhorn offer).”
“I went (to Texas) when they played TCU last season. That was my first visit. When I was there I had more of the game day atmosphere. I saw a little of the campus and it seemed like a place that would be a good fit for me,” explained Pryor.
“I like Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M,” Pryor said. “Those are my three early favorites.”
“I like Tech because of their coaches. They really have a good relationship with me and seem to be genuinely interested in me. The head coach there seems to like me and so does my position coach there. He’s been following me since I was a freshman. Honestly, I haven’t really followed the team too much, though, but I’m starting to.”
“I really love the atmosphere there (A&M). I also like the football team a lot, too. It just seems like you get known there easily. Everyone also seems very easy to talk to, or it was like that when I took an unofficial visit there last season, anyway.”

I'm cool with this since I think are better interior OL prospects in Texas (specifically OL Connor Mayes of Van Alstyne). Some interesting updates to share.
Practice: I've been fortunate to make many team practices including some closed ones and even some team meetings and wanted to share some observations.
The biggest surprise of spring ball is Tyrone Swoopes and it's not even close. He is killing it. I saw him over a year ago and the progression he has made is phenomenal. Remember how Swoopes' stock dropped and people questioned him playing QB? Forget it. The guy just never got good coaching until he was able to make all the camps over last year like the Elite 11 and let me tell you those camps must have lit a fire in the guy. Now is Swoopes' technique perfect? Far from it - but his motion is so much faster and smoother than last I saw him it looks like a different player. I stood next to him and man, he has such a physical presence. And trust me, the team is noticing. Although I wouldn't agree with it, I wouldn't be surprised to see Swoopes get on the field this year, and I do expect him to challenge for starting spot for 2014.
To the question if we go after Kiel at QB as transfer? Forget it. Won't even be a consideration with Swoopes in the wings and Heard coming in next year.
Biggest disappointment - without question it has been watching the O-Line. You'd think with new strength coach, Searels lighting a fire, etc - these guys have tools to make huge improvements. I see absolutely zero progress over last year. And that is talking about the first team. If one of those guys gets hurt and we have to go to 2nd team it only gets worse. I don't see us clearing the hurdle next year and this will be the reason why. The other area of concern is obviously linebacker, but strangely, I am 100x more worried with the O-Line after seeing the practices. I see the linebackers making strides I just don't see on Oline. As good as this team is at certain positions it's just not going to be an elite team with this OL, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
The players: the next two elite players on this team will be Malcom Brown and Peter Jinkens. Book it. Really the shocker here is Jinkens - the guy is just a ball hawk and attacks with reckless abandon and just makes plays. He will be best linebacker we've had in years. We got a little taste of him last year but this is going to be his break out year. Now for the bad - the real shocking news regarding a player is Connor Brewer and its not good - when I saw him he looked solid, but he just wasn't getting any reps at all for any of the days I made it out. He is obviously #4 on depth chart right now and that is clear. I really don't know how he fell to #4 from watching him (I'm guessing it's attidude, lack of prep?) - I really can't answer that and neither could my contacts on the team. But certainly would not be shocked to hear the attrition bug bites here.
Recruiting:
Tony Brown - I saw the guy from 247A&M site posted interview and stated he's "wide-open". But trust me when I say he is all LSU. Hell, he was big on LSU before and likely a big lean before his sister even committed there. LSU is clearly #1, and it gets worse b/c he is starting to have interest in Bama and they may have even passed Texas for #2 spot. I think Texas has distant chance and A&M is a blip on the radar at this point.
Jamal Adams - Adams is probably the most important target for Texas at this point b/c he is Texas lean and has been for a while, is a complete beast, and in camps he is blowing up against elite competition and locking people down. I've heard from good source that he has always been Texas fan and originally wanted to avoid the fanfare and make a decision early (he is not an attention whore that loves the recruiting limelight). However, with all the interest he is getting and how Texas has been doing - don't be surprised to hear he wants to look at some out of state schools to shop around. I think one of the underlying factors is he wants to see what Texas puts on the field this season - I think with a solid year he is Texas' to lose. Without expect he will take lots of visits and his recruitment may go to signing day.

My fear also is that the St Augustine players may think that they are a package deal. I keep hearing good thinks about the DB Roberts (is that his name?) and I hope that this does not affect his recruitment.
The package deal thing rarely works out for TWO guys, let alone four. The only way all of them are going to school together is at Alabama. Only Fournette/Roberts have offers; Paul/Garnett aren't even on Saban's radar. Plus, Saban knows he has a legit shot at Fournette without having to offer all of his teammates. Even though Alabama throws out offers like candy, I do think they want Roberts and his offer is committable. He's very good and hopefully Texas can win out there.

Some of you may remember this guy's name from a few weeks ago, but Texas has offered WR Trey Quinn of Lake Charles, LA per 24/7. Kid has put up insane numbers throughout his high school career.

Update on Quinn per OrangeBloods...he and his family are trying to get plans worked out so they can make the UT spring game next Saturday. According to Quinn's father, an official offer from Texas is a big one and they're fans of the success the Shipley brothers have had over the years. A&M is also going to get serious consideration as they've been on him for a while.

Update on DE Jarrett Johnson of Katy Seven Lakes (24/7):
“Right now, things have kind of cooled down. I think everyone knows that my top two choices are A&M and UT,” Johnson said. “That’s what I’ll probably stick with. I want to stay in Texas. However, we’re going to see if I can make Baylor on the 23rd. I’m not too sure about that one. I’m going to attend the spring games of A&M and UT. Those are my next visits on my list. By the time I visit both again, I think that will be a good time to sit down with my parents and talk about it. If I do actually go visit Baylor, I’ll have the three schools my dad wanted me to see. He wanted me to see at least three schools to get a feel for what I’m doing. After I go watch them, I’ll probably have everything set, and I’ll be able to make a decision.”
“Coaches from both schools Facebook me a lot,” he said. “They’re just trying to keep up with me, get to know who I am, and I’m getting a good feel from both schools so it’s going to be a tough decision.”
“The last coach I’ve talked with on the phone was Coach (Oscar) Giles,” he said. “He was trying to make sure I can come up there for their spring game. I haven’t talked with A&M on the phone with since the junior day but it’s been spring break. They’ve been keeping me updated on Facebook about their spring game and keeping me motivated to join their recruiting class.”
“Things are still a little bit the same with regards to A&M (as the leader),” he said. “I have a feeling with I go back to UT it might even out. Who knows. I’m going to be looking at a few things when I go back up to each campus. I want to see who’s leading, their intensity on the field and see if everyone there wants to win. I can tell when someone is playing hard or not.”
“I would say UT is trying a little bit harder recruiting me right now. I think Coach Giles hits me up on Facebook a little bit more than A&M does but that’s probably about it. I know Coach Sumlin told me at the junior day he didn’t want me leaving thinking they didn’t want me. Coach Banks has been messaging me the same thing.”

Quotes from LB Andrew Beck of Tampa, FL (OrangeBloods):
"Texas has been one of schools I've liked for a long time. I've always been a Horns fan," Beck said. "It's one of places I wanted my coach to look into, see if it's a possibility of me going there, getting an offer, having them recruit me," Beck said. "It's one of places I had him call when the offers started coming in, see if I could get an invitation there, get a visit, see if they liked me. I've liked them for a long time. It's a place I've always been interested in."
"I was young back then (when I lived in Killeen) so I kind of want to check (Texas) out with a different set of eyes, a different perspective," Beck said. "Now, I have to look at it not necessarily from a business standpoint, but an athletic and professional standpoint."
"As they looked at my film, the interest started picking up. I said recently, I was very interested in Texas, and if there was any significant interest on their part, I'd come down and visit so I could look at Texas, but so they can look at me too," Beck said. "I think it will be good for me and for them too."
"Austin is a beautiful city. That made an impression on me. The tradition of the football program and the pride of the school as a whole stands out," Beck said. "People are proud of the school, that they went to Texas. That's something that stands out."

Per SoonerNation, S Steven Parker of Jenks (Okla.) is visiting Texas today.
24/7 mentioned there could be two visitors today in addition to LB Andrew Beck and S Chance Waz.
Parker was my first guess since he was in College Station yesterday and he mentioned a while back that he wanted to see UT on the 23rd.

I'm sorry, man. I didn't know you had sent me a PM. That list is very useful and we'll get a Sophomore Day roster up soon. With Texas getting involved with the 2015 class so early, there are a lot of names to remember and everything kind of runs together. Appreciate it.

Sounds like we just offered San Antonio Warren DT Trey Lealaimatefao. Yes that was hard to type. He was a bit unknown early on but recently has been getting more and more offers.

Quotes from DT Trey Lealaimatafo (24/7):
“Coach Akina came by the school a while back and we were wrestling in offseason. He kind of eyeballed me and told me coach he liked what he saw and he liked my film,” Lealaimatafao said. “Then the other day my coach told me I needed to give Coach Akina a call.”
“I got the offer from Texas,” Lealaimatafao said on his way back down I-35 to San Antonio. “The visit was great. I had an awesome time.”
“Coach Akina talked about they'd offer me if I visited,” Lealaimatafao said. “He said he said it's ultimately up to Coach [Mack] Brown, but he sounded like I basically had an offer.”
“My meeting with Coach Brown went great,” he said. “[Mack] said he likes the way I play.”
“I like Texas, but I'm not going to commit right now,” he said. “I think I'm just going to wait and not make any big decisions right now. I kind of want to keep doing my homework.”
“My sister is best friends with his (Mykkele Thompson) girlfriend,” Lealaimatafao said. “I don't get to talk with him that much, but he makes Texas sound like a good place. It sounds like he's really enjoying himself there.”
“It's been real fun,” Lealaimatafao said of the recruiting process. “Just talking to all of the different coaches and getting their take on things has been great. I just hope I can keep it going.”
“Texas gave me a lot to think about,” Lealaimatafao said. “It's a real good place.”
