What does this mean.
It means it could change things in Brown's recruitment if his sister doesn't end up attending LSU.
Oh, and I hate your avatar.

This was posted on TexAgs from a longhorn site. Any idea who this is about?
My three guesses are CB Nick Foster (TCU) of Keller Fossil Ridge, CB Trai Mosley (Nebraska) of Pflugerville Hendrickson or ATH Trevion Roberts (OK State) of Aldine Eisenhower. On Roberts specifically, he attended the June 2nd summer camp with RB Donald Catalon but he didn't work out. He was asked by Akina to come back to the June 9th camp and work out at DB, but he couldn't make it. He admitted at the time he'd love a Texas offer. We'll see if the mystery guy shows up on Saturday.

Yep, definitely not Harvey because the mystery guy does not have a Texas offer.

Quotes from five-star RB Dalvin Cook (HornsNation):
“I’m always excited to travel and see new things,” Cook said. “I’m looking forward to meeting Mack Brown. Coach [Larry] Porter and I always chop it up and talk, and I really want to meet Mack Brown, see the whole facilities and tour the campus and all that, plus getting familiar with the people.”
“I just feel I have to give him a good shot to recruit me,” he said. “I met Coach Porter when he got to Texas and it’s been a great experience with him recruiting me. I like him as a coach. He’s a great person overall and his background speaks for itself.”
“He’s put a lot of running backs at the level I’m trying to get to,” Cook said. “That’s my No. 1 goal.”
“I watched them when they had Ricky Williams and a bunch more backs,” he said. “They have a great one now, Johnathan Gray. I watched a couple of his games. They get out there and run the ball downhill.”
“I’m just being open right now and looking at everybody and weighing my options,” Cook said. “I am really interested in Texas.”

Update on 2015 DE James Lockhart of Ennis (24/7):
“Texas is probably No. 2 on my list behind Texas A&M,” said Lockhart. “This visit helped today though. Coach Giles told me some important information. It wasn’t just him, it was the whole coaching staff. They let me know how important I am to them. They basically told me I mean a lot to them and they mean a lot to me. They showed more interest than the last time I came here. I like them a lot.”
“I feel like Texas and TCU are showing me the most interest,” he said. “Those are the only teams where I’ve had 1-on-1 talks with the head coaches.”
“I feel like it’s something I can fit into to,” Lockhart said. “I feel like I could come in and help the Texas program. It’s similar to what we run in high school. In my school we’re multiple, but Coach (Oscar) Giles was talking to me and told me they run a defense similar to that. He said if I come I’d be a strong defensive end, like I normally play right now.”
“I plan on being back,” said Lockhart. “They told me I can come to the Oklahoma game, so I plan on coming to that.”

Quotes from 2015 QB/ATH JW Ketchum from Fort Bend Marshall (24/7):
“You can say the visit helped Texas’ chances for me,” said Ketchum. “It seems like every time I come here they top it with something different (than before).”
“Texas, Texas A&M and Baylor in that order,” he said. “Those are my schools.”
“They’re recruiting me as a quarterback all the way,” Ketchum said. “They told me to just keep doing what I’m doing and it will all pay off.”
“I have a great relationship with them,” said Ketchum. “I feel pretty good about Coach (Larry) Porter and Coach (Major) Applewhite. They feel like I have that spark that they need. That same spark they seem in Vince, I guess they see in me and feel like I can bring it to their program.”
“I’m going to slow things down a little bit and take it slow,” he said. “I want to weigh out my options and take my time with making my decision.”

Update on LB/S Edwin Freeman who was not able to attend the Texas Stampede (24/7):
“They’re still my favorite,” he said. “No one else. It’s them, then Texas A&M then TCU like always."
“I wished I could have made it down for that event this weekend,” Freeman added. “I always have a good time at Texas, but I wasn’t able to. I’m sure it would have been a lot of fun. Luckily I’ve seen it down there a lot though.”
“It might (happen),” said Freeman. “I could take one (an official visit) during the season to check them (LSU) out.”
“There’s still a chance I might go ahead and get to get it over with before we begin our season,” Freeman said. “I don’t know for sure yet. If not, I’ll do it after the LSU visit. If I go ahead and commit to Texas before the season begins though, I won’t be taking that visit.”

“It feels amazing,” Vahe said. “It feels good. I’m very blessed.”
“It was really fun on Saturday,” Vahe said. “Everyone made me feel at home. I just wanted my family to be able to watch me play in college, and that was one of the reasons. I liked the opportunity and I feel like I should be a part of their team.”
“I told them (Texas staff) at the end of the day I was committing,” Vahe said. “It was really exciting. I just liked the way they brought me into their school and showed me around and made me feel at home.”

2015 RB JaMycal Hasty of Longview reviews the Texas Stampede (HornsNation):
“It feels pretty good (to get a Texas offer),” Hasty said. “I’m excited about it. I kind of had a feeling I was going to have one coming in. I’m just happy about it.”
“It was exciting and fun to get around the coaches and some of the players, and we got to see them work out,” Hasty said. “It was totally different than what I expected. It was nice. It was real good.”
“The running back coach said they thought pretty highly of me and he said they really wanted me,” Hasty said. “They don’t have a guy like me on their team right now. He said they were looking for something a little different and he said I could be that guy.”
“The guys on their team are 220-plus (pounds),” Hasty said. “I’m 180, 185. It’s size, quickness and speed, I guess.”
“That’s who I was hanging with pretty much the whole day, Malik (Jefferson) and Daylon (Mack),” Hasty said. “It was real fun, especially being with those guys.”
“I mean, I don’t know why he (Daylon Mack) feels that way (that Hasty is a lock for A&M),” Hasty said. “I’ll have to see how things play out. I have two more years. The guys these teams pick up, a coaching change -- anything can change.”
“Coach [Mack] Brown, he’s real nice and real cool,” he said. “Same way across the board with everyone on the coaching staff. We got a chance to look at the campus, and the campus is real nice. I loved it."

S Nick Orr of DeSoto talks about leaving Austin without an offer (HornsNation):
“Coach Akina said he wants to get to know me more and that's probably what they're going to do,” Orr said. “He said he'll be in touch. He didn't say exactly when but that he'd be in touch."
"He liked that I play bigger than I am,” he said. “I'm physical and I can play safety or corner."
"I don’t think I would’ve switched today,” Orr said. “I would’ve had to think about it, but it definitely would’ve changed things (if Texas had offered).”

“I’m going to announce on Aug. 2,” Shorter said. “I’m just looking for whatever is the best fit for me.”
“Coach Porter made a pretty strong one (impression),” said Shorter. “He showed me a presentation about how I can help their offense. Coach Porter is a great guy who’s down to earth and he’s going to tell you the truth. He’s not going to beat around the bush.”
“Texas really showed me how I can help their offense out,” Shorter said. “I can be a part of a good school and graduate. I like how they’ll help me if I don’t get my degree, where I can come back and get it. That’s a great feeling.”

The Manziel family absolutely rips A&M. I haven't read it all, but many of the excerpts are damning. Football season cannot get here fast enough.

Update on 2015 RB Jordan Stevenson after the Texas Stampede (24/7). He's no longer at Dallas Skyline, he's now at Dallas South Oak Cliff:
“Basically the visit was a great deal,” Stevenson said. “There were so many top recruits there and we all had the best time. It was just a real fun day. Our parents did their own thing while we did ours. We hung out with the coaches a lot, which I loved. We got to do a lot of bowling with them and had that chance to really connect with them. We also got to do a lot of other great things, like meet the president of the University of Texas and meet all the staff. That stood out a lot to me.”
“I really got a vibe and got a personal feel for Texas,” said Stevenson. “That vibe about the school I got was strong, real strong actually. I won’t lie; Texas caught my eye with this visit. I already was before, but now I’m looking very closely at them. I enjoyed it. It was an outstanding visit.”
“They’re definitely there,” he said. “I’m thinking highly of them, higher than ever before. They have a lot to offer not only for athletics, but for academics too. I’m really feeling that vibe and I’m feeling strongly about their academics. I can picture myself being a Longhorn without a doubt."
“If you look at it, they’re the best school in the state when it comes to a combination of football and academics together. No other can offer what they do,” he added. “Some come close, but they’re the best when you combine academics and football.”
“Larry Porter is one of my favorite coaches now,” said Stevenson. “He’s very down to earth. He has a great heart and is a great coach. He told me something that really stuck with me too. He said ‘Don’t let the game of football use you. You use game of football to achieve your goals and to get your degree.' I loved that because that fits me."
“He also says he has a great vision to make me the best running back I can be,” he added. “He’s very positive and inspiring. I love that about him.”
“It depends on the circumstances (when he decides to commit),” Stevenson said. “Right now I'm praying on it. I’m thinking a lot about schools, especially Texas, after that visit. It could happen anytime really. I’m just taking it step by step.”

That read on Manziel was completely unsurprising.
There is something you need to know about Tyler and it's well off inhabitants. It probably has the biggest "big fish in a small pond" complex that has ever been. The richers at the top of the food chain...oil money, medical money and real estate money...really do think that they live in a sort of a mini-Hollywood where they should all be worshiped and anything they do is above reproach. They will also blame anyone else the can find if they screw something up. Zero accountability, zero responsibility...and they pass it right on to their kids.
Starting to sound familiar? There is nothing rebellious about what Manziel is doing or the details of his current situation. The Mavs games, trips, etc...he's likely been doing that for years...and that's why it was no big deal for him to do it even though the media tried to make a big deal out if it. It's his and his families way of life. Some of Tyler's upper echelon will go broke trying to maintain it and keep up. My wife works in physician administration...and many of the docs here in town are begging for shifts because they can barley afford to keep up the payments on all the shit they have accumulated while trying to look important among their peers. It's nothing but a huge dick measuring contest gone bad.
So what exactly is going on with Manziel? Nothing. He's just doing what he's always done. He has a family with money and a Hollywood mentality and he's behaving like a Hollywood kid. He has fake ID's because he doesn't give a shit about getting caught. He gets kicked out of one frat party and goes to another one because he's always gotten what he wanted. The family taking shots at A&M falls right in line with all of this too. They are wanting Aggie to bend over backwards to stick up for him because that's how they live. The kids do what the hell they want and the parents sweep it all under the rug by throwing money at it. All of the talk about being worried and Paul trying to look like some sort of dad that wants the best for his son is just bullshit for ESPN to write in their article. If his son fucks it all up and comes back home then oh well...he do what the article says...he will be given a bunch of cash and a job somewhere with his Heisman behind him. He will show up at Rick's on the Square and Lago del Pino on the weekends with the rest of the richers and get trashed and live comfortably for the rest of his life.

Back on the recruiting topic...
Kevin Shorter has postponed his decision. He's going to do his visits to Arkansas and Texas first then decide at a later date apparently. TexAgs said he was absolutely going to commit to A&M on the 3rd but obviously things have changed.

Didn't know that about Tyler but it was obvious what kind of family the Manziel's were way before this article. Just didn't think they were dumb enough to run to the media with this type of information like the media can somehow diffuse the problem when it's the same media who actually helped create the problem. Pretty obvious why Johnny acts the way he does when you have clueless parenting going on.
So A&M gets Johnny counseling for his alcohol problems. Dad Manziel says A&M is selfish, isn't helping Johnny and that he's worried about his sons excessive drinking. Dad Manziel proceeds to buy Johnny multiple beers while the interview is taking place. Hmmm ok.

Quotes from five-star RB Dalvin Cook after his visit to Austin (HornsNation):
“It went good and smooth,” he said. “It’s a great place, better than I thought it was going to be. I saw a lot of good things there.”
“I’m still solid,” Cook said. “I’m still 100 percent with Florida.”
“Oh man, that’s one of the best coaches I’ve ever met,” Cook said. “He’s (Mack Brown) a great person. There really isn’t much more I can say about it, he’s just great. We had a long talk, and Mack just talked about how bad they want me and how bad they need me.”
“Coach Porter, he’s a great person with a great personality and a great sense of humor,” Cook said. “That man talked about a lot of good things. He said they really need to recruit some South Florida talent and he just feels like I’m that guy for them.”
“It’s Running Back U. They put out a lot of running backs,” Cook said. “They showed me a little chart of their NFL running backs, and that’s what I’m trying to be. I’m trying to get to the next level.”
“He’s (Earl Campbell) a great guy and he loves the game of football,” he said. “He’s one of the greatest backs to ever play. He told me Texas is a great place and told me whatever I do, just be happy with it and go for it. I really liked what he had to say.”
“I could turn around the program and do great things with the Longhorns,” he said.
“They’re probably always worried when you’re talking about one of your top players going to see another school,” he said. “They were obviously worried.”
“They’re (Florida) probably always worried when you’re talking about one of your top players going to see another school,” he said. “They were obviously worried.”
“They helped themselves a lot,” Cook said. “I was just glad to go out there and see the place for myself with my own eyes.”

Great read.
Lots of people bashing Manziel / parenting and sure fam will get heat over comments about A&M. However, I'm surprised there aren't more sympathetic people out there. No player has meant more to a school financially that Manziel to A&M in history of college athletics - and he and his fam are smart enough to know that. If Ags win 6-8 games nobody cares and they are long forgotten like Mizzou and people are talking about what a stupid move to SEC. Instead they have biggest year in school history in first year of SEC and now they're getting half-billion dollar stadium renovation. Manziel will make A&M money in the hundreds of millions range - literally. It has got to be hard making people and program rich and looking at what you get in return. I think his story just gets to the root of the problem with 'student-athletes'.

I can promise you that it's more about Manziel's family being a huge pain in the ass to the school. A&M is just taking the high road and keeping quiet about it...which is smart because as chronic said, they are getting paid handsomely with him being there. Well off Tyler families are spoiled brats that need constant coddling and want everything their way. Seems like the Manziel's have an issue with the overall system of college football rather than A&M but the article doesn't do a very good job getting that point across. As for the stadium, it has been in the works for a few years now. It's not like A&M put some plan together and got a 450M dollar stadium approved in a couple months after Johnny hit the field and they saw they had success in the SEC. This stadium model has been in the works for a few years now and long before Manziel ever hit the field. Not sure why people think A&M is renovating it's stadium just because of the SEC move. Even if they had not moved leagues and Manziel never hit the field, this stadium renovation was proposed under the Sherman regime.

I'd have a hard time believing a half-billion stadium renovation would have been approved and completed pre-Manziel/SEC considering the athletic dept was broke and needed to borrow money from the school. There is a big difference between 'plans' and having the support and funds to make the plans reality. I'm no expert in A&M athletics but I'm guessing the scale of the project went up 10x in scope from original proposal.

Not to distract from the intent, but isn't Manziel from Kerrville, not Tyler. I'm not an expert in TX geography, but to my knowledge Kerrville and Tyler are not in proximity to each other. Aside from that, I get the point. It tends to be the case with a lot of families that are privileged. They are accustomed to getting their way in all aspects of life.

“They treated us great there,” he said. “I thought a lot of them for that. That stood out the most. spent a lot of time with Coach Wyatt and he was very genuine. He was interested in me, talked to me a lot and said they will always have interest in me.”
“He (Darrell Wyatt) and the other coaches told me that they would come to one of my games,” Siverand said. “The one thing I want to do is work hard so I can have a tremendous season. That way when the coaches do come, they’ll be very impressed. Just the thought of Coach Wyatt and the other coaches coming to my school just to see me is mind blowing.”
“I don’t have any favorites yet,” Siverand said. “Those schools (A&M and Texas) are in it, but honestly everyone is on the map for me right now if they’re showing interest. I don’t even know when I will narrow it down now.”
"Yes it (the Stampede) helped them (Texas) out a lot,” he said. “There’s no doubt about it.”

His parents moved to Kerrville when he was in middle school. His whole family and extended family is from Tyler. Update on 2015 LB Cameron Townsend of Fort Bend Ridge Point (24/7):
“I had a very good time there,” Townsend told Horns247. “We got to go bowling, which was a lot of fun. They had some of the current players there, along with the coaches too. It was very cool interacting with them. We also got to see the team work out for a little whole, which was also cool. Other than that, all the recruits were just getting to know each other. Overall though, I’d say it was a great event.”
“The fact that Coach Brown stood up and talked to everyone really impacted me,” said Townsend. “He basically addressed any question we would have before anyone, including the parents, could ask. That stands out to me because I think when you get the head coach and his coaches to interact with the player and their families on that personal of a level, it has a little different meaning to it.”
“It definitely helped Texas a lot,” Townsend said. “I feel like being close to the Texas coaches like we were makes me interact with them much more. It gave me a chance to get to know all the coaches a little more than I normally would.”
“I feel like no matter where I choose, I can adapt,” he said. “Texas is definitely a great university though. There’s no way going there could be a mistake.”

From what I know it's mostly shady business dealings and drugs. The biggest local story is one of a business deal that went bad and a couple of guys went missing that were never found...but they were linked to the family. The running joke is that they are probably part of the Oil Palace parking lot now. I can't remember all the specifics of the story but my boss knows, so I'll ask her again. The Smith county justice system is a joke(that's why they wrote a book about it), so the Manziel's did a lot while the authorities looked the other way. That's why there is only word of mouth about it and not much documented. But it all went on...anyone you ask from Tyler can tell you.
But as I said...I think most of it has died out with the older generation, because you don't really hear much about it anymore.

His parents moved to Kerrville when he was in middle school. His whole family and extended family is from Tyler. They are the local crime family...though a lot of that has stopped as the older generation has died off. And believe me...privileged is not a strong enough word to describe Tyler's elite. They are obnoxious.
Thanks for the info. Explains a lot.

Unrelated, but how do I get the burnt orange around my posts instead of this default black? I want to show my true colors.

'15 QB target Ricky Town of St. Bonaventure HS (Cal.) has committed to Alabama.
The chances of this kid winning a MNC while he is at Alabama are pretty good. The chances of him being developed into an NFL QB not so good.
I have no idea why a top rated QB would take a chance on his career like that to go to a school that is across the country. If I'm a top rated QB, and had the desire to play in the SEC, I'd pick aggsy, or Georgia before I go to Alabama or LSU.

“The visit went really well,” said Boone. “It was great actually. They hinted around that an offer was a big possibility soon. It sounds like they're going to wait until Sept. 1, when they're allowed to contact me, before doing anything. They told me to just be patient. I’m really hoping it comes through and happens.”
“I could definitely see myself playing there,” Boone said. “Without a doubt. I would have no problem committing to Texas as long as my mom was on board with it too. I would love to be a Longhorn if the opportunity presents itself.”

Quotes from 2015 RB Jordan Stevenson of Dallas South Oak Cliff (24/7):
“They (Texas) said I’m a great fit for that offense,” he said. “They told me they are looking for a special kind of running back that can do multiple things. A guy who can play running back and who can split out to the slot."
“They want an all-around athlete that can do it all,” he added. “They told me that they love my speed and I can play multiple positions. The coaches have told me they can use me in many different combo packages and just use me in a lot of ways.”
“It’s going to be a lot of fun to see what Coach Applewhite can do,” said Stevenson. “I think highly of what they said and I’d love to take advantage of that opportunity to do those things, so to see them preview it this season is going to be great. I can’t wait."
“If the coaches do what they tell me they’re going to do, it’s going to be one of the best offenses out there and I’d love to play for it.”
“When it comes to Mike (Davis) and me, we go way back,” Stevenson said. “He’s like my family member at Texas basically. He tells me all about it. He says that Texas is a great opportunity I shouldn’t pass up and tells me Texas is the place for me to be. I think a lot of his opinion."

OrangeBloods reporting the issue with OL Desmond Harrison is related to one or more online courses he took while still in JUCO. He won't be able to practice with the team until that issue is resolved. This may be taken care of soon but the vibe isn't great right now considering UT's academic support staff doesn't have the best reputation.

Mack Brown and Deloss Dodds are lazy
There are so many areas they fall short, my two biggest pet peeves with them are the lack of support they get from the academic staff and the lack of control they take over nutrition. When I see schools like Nebraska and Alabama having full dietitians on staff teaching their athletes how to eat like a true athlete I wonder what is going on at Texas. Why is the richest school in the country not leading the way in this area.
When I hear of athletes having clearing house issues I really lose it. Who monitors these things? Either he is in or out, he qualifies or not. This is a kid Texas was really counting on, how the hell can the athletic department not have someone on top of this?
As a business man Deloss Dodds has few peers, as an athletic director, he has been past by many many people. The same can be said for Mack as a coach, thank heavens we won't have to deal with either for much longer.

Vito,
I can't speak about the academic side of things but I do agree it seems to always be a problem with something falling through the cracks.
As for nutrition, I knew we had someone on staff and did some digging...here is a profile on Amy Culp, our sports dietician.

Update on LB/S Edwin Freeman of Arlington Bowie and his desire to take official visits (24/7):
"Texas is still my number one, no matter what people think or say," he said. "They're my favorite school. They have been since I was a kid and that hasn't changed. It's them then Texas A&M and TCU as my top three, but they're far behind Texas."
"I want to use some official visits," said Freeman. "I don't really know where yet. I know Texas will get one and Texas A&M. Probably LSU too. I'm not for sure if I'll use all of them or what."
"It will be tough (to beat Texas)," he said. "I just want to be absolutely sure that Texas is the best place for me. I feel like it is, but I don't want to be left wondering. I have a great relationship with the coaches there, especially Akina. He's always been honest and real with me. They're the team I always rooted for. I don't think anyone will be able to do it, but I have to be sure."

Update on 2015 S Larry Pryor after he was unable to visit Texas this weekend (24/7):
“I really wanted to go,” said Pryor. “I couldn’t though because I got a new job just a couple of days ago and they want a ten days notice if I’m going to want off on a certain day. I decided earlier in the week to go to Austin, but since I got the job on Thursday I couldn’t give him an early notice.”
“I’m trying to make it down there very soon,” he said. “I’ve now missed out twice on trips to Austin because something came up, so I want to get down there as soon as possible.”
“I call them on my own and also my coach will tell me they want me to call them once in a while,” Pryor said. “I talk to Coach [Duane] Akina and Coach [Stacy] Searels the most. I was actually supposed to talk to them on Friday, but we didn’t get to, so I’m going to call them the first of this week and see about when I can get back down there.”
“Texas is my favorite school,” said Pryor. “They're my number one. After that I would say it would be TCU, Arkansas and maybe Texas Tech in that order.”

FYI that CB Tony Brown, 2015 CB Kendall Sheffield and 2015 RB Jay Bradford all attended Texas A&M's practice on Saturday. Reports have varied on what truly went down, but Bradford was about as close as you can get to committing. He either wasn't quite ready to pull the trigger or the A&M staff told him they needed him to wait. If you're a Longhorn fan, you're hoping for the latter scenario.

2015 WR DaMarkus Lodge reviews his unofficial visit to OU (24/7):
“The visit went great,” said Lodge. “I loved the facilities there. Everything was great down there, actually. I really like what I saw, especially since they've offered me already.”
“Man I would say everything there was just as nice,” Lodge told Horns247. “I love them both (OU and Texas). They're both very comparable.”
“They’re equal to Texas now as far as me liking them,” he said. “I don’t have any favorites or a favorite, but they're equal to me.”

Have not seen much on him other than camp reports. He's so young and I've seen some say he may project to WR instead of QB.
What is the latest word on Myles Garrett? I thought he was a lock for a$m?
As far as I know, still a big A&M lean and it helps that his sister goes to school there. Not considering Texas.
What does this do for our depth at those positions?
I'd be lying if I said I knew for sure. Even if Garnett's grades were excellent, I still think Texas needs to, and will, look at JUCO prospects for a guy that can contribue immediately. It's a plus that McMillon is someone that will probably be moved up and down the line and can hold down different positions, but we don't know when he'll be ready. As far as TE goes, it's difficult to get too worked up about about the position because it seems like it hasn't even existed at Texas for several years now. TE Anthony Jones of New Orleans is a guy I would have offered already and he committed to Louisiana-Lafayette yesterday.

Update on OL Desmond Harrison from OrangeBloods...the issue is online classes that he took through BYU that would help him maintain eligibility and ultimately transfer to Texas. Turns out the NCAA banned student-athletes from taking these particular classes THREE years ago in 2010, but this rule slipped by the UT academic support staff. So, essentially, those classes are no good and he's ineligible as things stand. These credits are going to have to be re-certified somehow before Harrison can get back on the field. It's looking like a giant, season-changing mistake on Texas' part if we assume Harrison was going to be the starting left tackle.
