It will also be revealed that the ST personality of Michael Jordan, was in fact Nick Saban as well...

@max_olson:
Source: Shawn Watson was introduced as Texas QB coach in team meeting tonight. OC has yet to be named.
No, I never said Shawn Watson was a bad QB coach, I never considered him in that capacity, I said he was a horrible offensive coordinator and I stand by that.
Greg Davis >>>>> Shawn Watson
And I hate Greg Davis.
But QB coach is the one spot I'm okay with Watson seeing what he did with Teddy Bridgewater.
I will continue to say this. Offensive Coordinator is the most important hire Charlie Strong can do right now, he needs a perceived home run, and nothing short will do. We need a guy that will stick around for a few years and can run an offense that will attract elite QBs, receivers, and running backs.
I've explained why I feel this way, but will say it again. Charlie Strong is a defensive mastermind, he can coach defense better than most elite level head coaches, it's why he has gotten to this point. But he is completely dependent upon having a Offensive Coordinator that can run the show on that side of the ball, a co-head coach for offense.
I would have said these same words if Art Briles was our head coach, except I would have said it about his DC.
Now if Shawn Watson is our QB coach, then I'm happy with the choice, but the guy would be in over his head if he were hired as OC, history has proven that. I will say this; of every confirmed hire, (every one to this point) has (in my opinion) been fantastic. But just like GDGD was an anchor around Mack's neck, so will the OC be if the wrong guy is hired by Charlie Strong.

Well I'm ok with a difference of opinion. I just remember being a senior in high school and being recruited. Coaches would call all the time, some would flat out lie about playing time or whatever they thought u wanted to hear. Then some would take a different route and swear that their school is the best ever with the best looking women on earth. I was so ignorant to what I know now. Made a lot of decision that I look back on today and admit that I shouldn't have made. I don't think any 17year old should be coddled, but there should be some consideration taken according to the maturity level at that age.

One guy I know has been mentioned earlier as a potential OC is Noel Mazzone from UCLA. As far as I can see, he's the only one of the "top" OC's with a history of coaching receivers. He coaches receivers at Colorado State back in the 80's and for the New York Jets from 2006 to 2008. If Strong and Texas wants a OC/WR he would be my top target. He coached at TCU from 1987-1991. It's long time ago but it's still some kind of ties to the state.

Worth mentioning it's unclear at this time if Chambers will be a position coach, so we could be waiting on another guy besides the OC. He may have remained on staff strictly as a recruiting coordinator and continuing the work that Suddes was doing before being let go. I'll leave him at TEs for now.

Not ruling anything out at this point because Strong has done such a nice job of keeping info within his circle. It's pretty obvious that nobody has a true feel for what's happening. Assuming Morris is who they're waiting on, the Vanderbilt opening could be another reason for the delay. That needs to be settled as well.

Right, but the reasoning is that he's completed one more year as of Jan. 12, so that's one less year he has to compensate Clemson for. In other words, it's a difference of $1.3 million.
According to the contract, if Morris leaves to accept a position as an assistant coach or coordinator from 2012-2014, he must pay Clemson a buyout equal to the sum of his annual total compensation multiplied by the years remaining on his contract.

Baby Shanny did well while he was in Houston. I really hated to see him go, as did many Texans fans. He moved up through the ranks quickly even though he was young. Houston had the #1 passing offense in the league under him in 2009 and Schaub had his best year as a QB...throwing for over 4700 yds. Hard to judge him by what happened in Washington...that whole thing was a disaster from the beginning because RGKnee is just not a good QB and Snyder was trying to build a team around him.
He would be a fantastic hire.

People post about both teams here; to some degree, it's an overall competition between the two schools - the better A&M does, the more problematic it is for Texas, and vice-versa. I was surprised to see Garrett was the #1 recruit in the nation, and I didn't realize Noil was that highly rated - I figured others (mainly Aggies who read this thread, but some Texas fans also) would find that interesting. A&M has never had the #1 recruit, much less half of the top 6. Surprised many are pouting so openly actually; I knew it would bug some, but not this much.

Three of the top 6 recruits in the nation is relevant - to Aggies, and to Texas fans, who have to deal with A&M's dominant recruiting recently. You may hate it, but it's relevant - as the Texas fan posting the exact same information seconds after me demonstrated. If it bothers you that much, scroll past it instead of taking up two pages griping about it - it will go by faster. And as for 'obsessions', I've seen dozens of threads denigrating A&M - I always see posters such as yourself on A&M threads trying to knock the school. Based on this site at least, the obsession appears to run stronger with Texas fans.
As to 'proving you right' about gloating - of course I was gloating. I'm sorry, that wasn't really a brilliant deduction on your part. It was also highly relevant recruiting information, as your own fan proved by posting the same thing right after me.

In 1998 Texas had the top defensive player in the nation and the top offensive player. They were Cory Redding and Chris Simms. Texas didn't win jack with them. good luck with this whole recruiting stuff, it takes more than great recruits from one class to be a champion.

Yeah, I'm not getting into that "discussion." My point was just that I'm not sure why there's such a large gap in recruiting right now when one program nearly won its conference and brought in a highly reputable African-American coach while the other just finished one of its more disappointing seasons in recent memory. Then again, the new coach probably explains a lot of it — high school kids don't know Charlie Strong's resume.

kids are very trendy and they want to be the center of attention. texas will offer that to a great extent but manziel brought a great deal of attention to a&m and this resulted in a couple of solid recruiting classes. if strong gets a solid year soon and the aggies do not then the trend could reverse. then again, baylor is still riding a high and could become the new darling, and we'll see what kingsbury can do at tech. i'm of the belief that in this day and age of recruiting, texas cannot rely on brand name alone.

While Baylor is certainly light years ahead of what they were just a few years back (in terms of competing for recruits), Texas hasn't just relied on their name. They have been the dominant team in the state for over a decade. Winning trumps all.

well that's to my point. they have been so good for so long that they may have been depending on that past success as well as their facilities and tradition. but high school kids today are more concerned with what school is getting the attention at the moment. it's just a product of the times.

Austin is a place to go wayward. A number of ex-football players still live in Austin and some are big trouble. They have pulled players into incidents off campus.

They were getting free room off campus because the university gave them a living stipend to live off campus. They would room with friends and pocket the rest of the stipend for free spending money. That's a nice little perk they're pissed about losing.
I don't mind the change. It's Charlie's program and we want him to change the culture so we can't bitch while he changes the culture.

I'm for everything, especially with this bunch who have had it made. I've been so frustrated the past few years at all of the people who incessantly claimed Mack was trying his best. The guy was preaching how great everything was and "we expect to win 'em all", but he was absent constantly and didn't allow harsh punishment. He didn't even attend full practices. Because of all of that, you're left with a team so detached from reality without a sensible view of how to reach their goals (assuming they all even care). The culture is rotten to its core and it's time to cull the herd. For example, did y'all know Daje failed the majority, if not all, of his classes? How the F does that happen?!

Gloating? Yes, of course - it was also interesting information. Isn't A&M having half of the top 6 players in the nation relevant recruiting information? It bugs you this much to see it?
Won't bother me until Ags translate big recruiting into wins on the field. You're losing the most important player in the history of your program and these recruits won't be making meaningful contributions on the field most likely for 3-4 years; probably 2 at best. If other guys on current roster, particularly on defense, don't step up this year - I'm not sure the top 5 recruiting class momentum can continue beyond this year. Of course the fun of college football is you never know how things will play out so will be entertaining to watch.
That said, it is pretty impressive class and I've seen some of your recruits in person and there are some serious players there.

WR Lorenzo Joe of Abilene Cooper has set up some official visits to TCU and USC. According to Inside Texas he's solid, but the problem up to this point is he hasn't been contacted at all by the new staff so he's looking at options just in case. Not an encouraging development considering WR Emanuel Porter is giving a real hard look at LSU.

it certainly sounds like the culture there had gotten out of hand (although FSU just won a title and has exactly this culture-actually probably worse) and i admire strong for putting his foot down. if he can get some positive results from it, i'm sure his method will get the full backing but if not one has to wonder if his methods will be lost beyond his tenure. personally, i think all universities should hold their athletes accountable but winning is the most important detail for most of the schools.

I'm all for most of what's in the article, don't get me wrong. There should be accountability, a word Mack wasnt familiar with at all. I actually missed the part about seniors being able to move if they are where they should be academically, which makes it much more reasonable.

It can be done. We've seen all of the problems Meyer left behind at Florida after he won two titles. But with Mack specifically, he's always needed that transcendent personality that could lead the team such as VY, Colt or Muschamp. He hasn't had that since '08. Factor in poor coaching hires/recruiting/development/evaluation, lack of discipline on and off the field, an absent 62 year-old head coach who isn't fully dedicated and is more worried about controlling the message than coaching; you're in for some rough times.

The consensus seems to be Watson/Wickline as co-OCs with Wickline having the majority of the say. Texas is sitting at the limit of 9 assistant coaches, but there still may be a chance Watson goes NFL. Robinson (the RBs coach) said today he's staying and won't pursue NFL opportunities.

You may have true freshman start, but that doesn't mean they will make meaningful contributions. Only a handful of true frosh across the country each year make an impact their first year. Allen is unlikely to start as a true frosh and if he did I'd be pretty worried if I were an Ag fan. No knock on the player but he's a drop back passer in a simplistic offense in HS. That's a damn big jump to expect production when even guys like Winston and Manziel redshirted.
