2015 RB Derrius Guice of Baton Rouge, LA is another prospect Chris Vaughn visited today, per 24/7.
As of right now, he is hoping to attend UT's Junior Day next month.

Any idea which coach is behind these offers? Who is the guy with connections and experience recruiting in that area? Koenning?
Les Koenning is responsible for 2016 QB Josh White of Marietta, GA who is supposed to visit for Junior Day.
The others seem to be a combination of Brian Jean-Mary, Chris Rumph and Chris Vaughn.

Signing on 10 th graders is like buying a thoroughbred for racing as a foal. These 10 th graders are literally babies in the body of men. I don't get the approach and the inconsistency shown by the staff, but honest to a God it's nuts. I guess you have to be around 10th grade athletes to understand fully.
Show interest, follow the progress, but offers in utero... ?
Because they might be great... These kids change so much.

There's a rumor he'll be on campus this weekend, but he told OrangeBloods that's false.
He attended the spring game and didn't want anyone to know about it, so we'll see what happens.

Recruiting updates from 24/7...
-Les Koenning had an in-home visit with WR Emanuel Porter last night. He'll head to LSU for an official this weekend.
-Joe Wickline stopped by John Tyler to see 2016 DT Braylon Jones. He was at Gilmer yesterday to see 2015 CB Kris Boyd.
-Chris Vaughn will be in the Golden Triangle today to see names like 2015 S Deionte Thompson, 2015 S Johnny Shaw and 2016 RB Kameron Martin.
-Shawn Watson will be in Stephenville to visit 2015 QB Jarrett Stidham.

Also from 24/7...

Two new names from 24/7...
-UT coaches were in Manor last week and will be again today to see WR Datrin Guyton. No word on an offer at this time as Guyton is recovering from a broken bone in his leg. This was his first season playing WR and he had over 1,000 yards receiving. Currently committed to Oregon State and potentially a great replacement for Gray and/or Porter.

Been to a few camps and recruiting evens with my cousin who is in the 2014 class and Harvey is always recruiting the other top players for Ags pretty damn hard as I've seen firsthand. I know lots of speculation he is considering Texas but I just don't see a guy flipping considering how hard he is pushing other players unfortunately.

Columbia, Mo., isn't a place you visit just because you can, like an L.A. or Austin. Still, I don't feel like a flip is a serious possibility in this case. It'd be like trading in your 2013 Lamborghini for a 2001 Civic.

you have to realize most of these kids are brought up to believe they are the best and are ultimately disillusioned. they think that if they stay there for only two years, they can go straight to the draft. the actual university isn't important to them. it's the program and conference that is.

I don't see how coaches put up with teenagers and their occasionally screwball parents. With the lifespan of NFL players, and often nothing guaranteed, you would expect they might want to shoot for some sort of degree.

It seems like Strong doesn't mind recruits taking visits, especially since there's been a coaching change since they committed. It will be interesting to see if he's the same in 2015 and beyond with kids that committed to him initially.
I think Strong is cool with the 2014 kids making visits as long as they haven't told him they're solid with UT. Word is he was pretty upset with the Foremans because he made the school visit to Texas City, all was well and then this official visit to Mizzou popped up out of nowhere.

I know he liked Baylor too but also talked about Texas being his choice due to academics as well. Believe his father is a doctor or lawyer or some kind of profession that requires extensive academia. If academics are important on that level to his family then Baylor is definitely 3rd rate.

Yeah I hope they had to walk right by each other between visits. How awkward.
Interesting note, turns out Sumlin & staff were actually the second visit of the night. Strong went first.
Alaka said Texas A&M coaches arrived first, with Kevin Sumlin joined by linebackers coach Mark Hagen and special teams/tight ends coach Jeff Banks. Since Alaka has known these coaches for a year and just took his official visit to College Station last weekend, there wasn't much pressure.
“It went pretty good. There wasn’t really much to discuss," Alaka said. "We really just sat and chatted. [Sumlin] was really just saying the same stuff, nothing new in particular."
Charlie Strong arrived at the Alaka home shortly after the Aggies coaches left. He was joined by defensive coordinator Vance Bedford and linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary, and they spent much of the night getting to know Alaka's parents.

Inside Texas reporting Texas has inquired about LB Christian Britt of Ingleside. Apparently Strong told his high school coach UT would offer with proof that he can qualify (may explain his lack of offers). This obviously could be seen as a back-up plan in case LB Otaro Alaka chooses A&M, but another interesting theory is LB Andrew Beck potentially moving to H-back on offense. Many of you may remember him being talked about as a TE when UT started recruiting him in the spring. Anyway, this is not a kid who should only have two offers.

Apparently a quote from Nick Harvey from an ESPN Insider article:
"Playing in front of the 12 th man, you’re either with them or against them,” Harvey said. “It was tough because the top athlete in Texas usually ends up at UT, but at the same time, it’s not about the history; it’s about the future. I’m trying to start something different and great at A&M.”

I don't know Nick Harvey, but your assessment doesn't take into consideration the role his parents have played in his recruitment. I believe his parents have strongly favored him going to Texas. I'm guessing that this may just be a case of their son wanting to attend A&M but appeasing his parents by taking another visit/look to UT. That had nothing to do with him continuously lying to people. If his parents want him to take visits then all he has to do is say he's going to take visits. He holds the cards here because both programs want him and won't turn him away as long as he qualifies and doesn't get into major legal trouble.
There's absolutely no reason to lie which means his frequent lies are more a product of personality than necessity. As a former psych profiler I've seen it over and over in many people.

Not sure how long that will last but it's working right now. Overall, they are just THE hot team in Texas right now.

A "preferred walk-on" by definition is someone who is genuinely wanted, but there aren't enough scholarships to go around at the time (see K Nick Rose of Texas). Once scholarship numbers become more favorable in the future, that prospect is supposed to be given immediate consideration before other walk-ons. The only problem is some schools/coaches can use it to their advantage and the prospect never gets a scholarship. It's simply a situation where your nephew will have to use his best judgement. If it were my family memeber, I'd hammer away at the possibility that the free edcuation may never come, so be absolutely sure you want to play football and you can see yourself being happy at that university. My $0.02.

Depends, no rules on the definition of a preferred walk-on so it varies. One coach may promise a scholly if they make the 2/3 deep roster, others if they start, etc. You have to look at what is being offered and the roster players you are against. There are enough walk-ons who earn schollies at almost every program to say it is much more than a tackling dummy situation.
Also, NCAA limits the number of walk-ons a team can bring into fall camp (before school starts) to 20 (I think, maybe 25). Anyway, the preferred walk-ons are generaly in this group which gives them some advantage.

Speaking from experience as I'm someone who paid for most of my own college and was crippled by student debt for the first 10 years of my post college employment and had to create and develop my own company to make enough money to get rid of it...
I'd tell your nephew to do whatever it takes to avoid that situation. If his parents are loaded and don't mind footing the bill then by all means take the chance as a preferred walkon if he feels comfortable at the school and is confident he can beat out guys to get a role. If he's going to have to foot the bill then I'd highly encourage him to take a scholarship offer if he gets one. No one should go through the type of hell of scraping by because you're saddled with debt and the country gets attacked and goes to war and through a major recession.

My hope is to provide a little info to them so they can make the best decision possible.

FWIW, my nephew Kellen stepped into the spot Jake Oliver had at Dallas Jesuit in 2012. He had over 1000 yards receiving and 12-14 TDs in 2013 - the team won two playoff games for the first time ever this year since moving to UIL.

Maybe, but a big issue under Mack was that kids weren't improving from freshmen to senior and in many instances regressed.
Part of the improvement process is getting stronger and faster, when I hear about kids throwing up it means they haven't been working out at this level of intencity. That is common going from football to track but not from football to off season football

Threaten the UT football players to a workout with the cross country team, people who like to run and consider a good vomit pleasurable. It might also help with the mental aspect of prolonged pain while engaged in competition.
Run back to the huddle men. Get your ass off and on the field. Hurry up offense, no problem... Athletes. This is no longer a 5 second game with a walk back while plans are made.
Would it not be great to see a UT football team wear down a superior opponent through sheer force of will, superior fundamentals, and better conditioning? When was the last time we beat a team due to these three factors?

My favorite part:
After pleasantries were exchanged, Eaton (the Cypress Falls HC) said Strong began with a question: Was Eaton an offensive or defensive coach? Defense, he said. Strong liked that answer.
So the new Longhorns coach extended an offer: Tell me what you need help with. What gave his Eagles trouble this season? The answer: Eaton hated defending the Diamond formation.
So Strong grabbed a marker and went to the whiteboard, delivering an impromptu seminar of X's and O's. Eaton had never seen that before. He'd later say it was one of the coolest visits he'd ever hosted.

I was just about to post. My bad on that. They said a "lineman" and I read too fast.
They said he didn't want his name out there until Friday when he got to campus.

Per 24/7, Strong will be by Sulphur Springs today to see 2015 S Larry Pryor. He picked up an A&M offer on Sunday.
Strong is also scheduled to be by Gladewater, but 2015 DT Daylon Mack is out of town with a school function.

24/7 saying 2015 RB JaMycal Hasty of Longview was basically told he no longer has an A&M offer at their Junior Day on Sunday, so his recruitment has now taken a hard turn towards Baylor.

OrangeBloods reporting 2015 WR John Humphrey of League City Clear Falls will be at a Texas Junior Day.
May be the fastest WR in his class or the fastest prospect overall. Check out the film.

DT Poona Ford will be announcing National Signing Day on ESPNU, per 24/7.
Good exposure for Texas if that's his pick.

LOL, of course he has something in his apartment he doesn't want them to see. Probably holds illegal cock fight there. Black people love cock fights.
Ok....

Idk who said I'm visiting Texas this week cause I'm not ... I'm relaxing with my teammates
New school semester dude. Hit the books. You are going to be student athlete next year, but probably not on time or in the first two rows.

So Sumlin offered the kid then pulled it away? Surely Strong can use for a little negative recruiting fuel you would think

@DamonSayles: 4-star RB/FB Daniel Gresham (@DanielGresham33) is now down to #PonyUp & #BirdsUp. A decision will come Sunday.
I know many folks don't care to hear updates on Gresham but I find it extremely odd that he went from being committed to Texas to know having to decide between SMU and UTSA. Very odd recruitment to say the least.

Big-time odd. Would be a nice get for UTSA though. Have they landed a 4-star recruit yet?

Would be awesome if UTSA could land this kid. UTSA has a chance to win C-usa next season and this would only keep that momentum going in the right direction for there 4th yr. Pretty remarkable really..
it would also turn around what has been a brutal week for UTSA with 3 commits flopping
