2015 OL Patrick Vahe has plans to visit Austin on July 10th since he missed the June 9th summer camp (HornsNation):
“I missed the camp because I was in Alaska for some church business,” Vahe said. “We were gone for the weekend and came back that Sunday night.”
“I’m really excited,” Vahe said. “I’ll finally get to go out there and meet the coaches. I just want to go out there, visit the coaches, see how the campus is and come back and tell my parents.”
“It’s a match to watch when we (Vahe and the Teuhema brothers) compete,” Vahe said. “These guys are both really good. Especially when I went against Sione, that was good competition. We went head-to-head three times.”
“He (Sione Teuhema) was the hardest guy I went against. Let’s just say I won two out of three.”
“Right now I’m going to wait until I visit their campus, and maybe that will support my decision or make me think about it more.”
Michael Huff tweeted this out. Nice shirts:

I think it's Bobby Tatum from Fort Worth (class of '04).

Yeah, it's Tatum. He transferred out in 2005. Here's another pic of him I came across. He's a big-time trainer in Dallas now:

Great news on the recruiting front and something to look forward to. According to 24/7, Texas is basically doing a round-up of the key 2014 and 2015 recruits on the weekend of July 27th and 28th. Sounds like they're aiming to have 25 to 50 guys on campus right before they all have to start two-a-days. The first annual "Sophomore Day" received amazing reviews back in March, so hopefully this will be similar and a way to start building momentum in case Texas has a nice season.

06-28-2013, 02:11 PM
24/7 also saying Texas is in the beginning stages of recruiting an in-state DB that is currently committed elsewhere.
It's not ATH Nick Harvey because UT has been on him since he committed to A&M and will continue to recruit him through NSD.

My first guess for the mystery DB is CB Nick Foster of Keller Fossil Ridge who is committed to TCU. If I remember correctly, Texas had plans on offering him in February but ne never made it to Austin for either Junior Day.

Good news on S Arrion Springs. He told 24/7 his visit to Texas today was "crazy" and UT did everything they could to make an impression. He had a meeting with President Powers, ate lunch with the current secondary, toured the campus and had talks with some of the NFL DBs (Ross, T. Brown, etc.) who are currently in town for summer workouts.

Quotes from S Arrion Springs (OrangeBloods):
"The visit went real good," Springs said. "I had lunch with some of the players and just toured the campus."
"Umm, let's just say I got some thinking to do," Springs said. "What was different about this visit was how well I bonded with the players. It was a real family and it definitely made an impression on me."
"It is simple," Springs said. "Be a part of a great tradition or starting tradition. DBU is something not to take lightly. I looked up to a lot of those guys that paved the way. I guess I need to figure out if I want to be a part of carrying on that tradition or if I want to go to Oregon and try to help start a tradition of defensive backs at Oregon."
"I really don't know," Springs said. "They are such opposites. It'll be a great decision either way. I feel like I can't really lose no matter what I do. I just need to take some time, talk to my family and friends and come up with the best decision for me."

son. the last few years have been obvious flukes. certainly, they have exposed Mack's coaching abilities as a fraudulent. however, this isn't about coaching, it's about just putting the best players on the field and letting them do "dar thang". Texas will get back to where it belongs soon if we can get some players who can actually play (i don't care about the Rivals.com rankings since they don't mean shit).

Texas is #3 in wins all time, I'd say you have a better chance of winning at Texas than just about any other school.
Don't forget, a down year for Texas is still 9 wins. Hell, aggsy win 10 and they think they are gods.

This is true. All said prospect has to do is sign on the dotted line and said prospect's only worry will be whether or not Sally Brown will be serving chocolate chip cookies during half-time.
...and of course she will, so needn't truly worry.

I admit that right now Brown and his family atmosphere has created a environment that resembles a little kids soccer league where everyone gets a trophy for participating, but that is not the University, that is Mack Brown, he won't be here forever. And even with such a environment, he has had success in the past so he has stuck by it.
When you have a environment like this, you need leaders on the field that can rise above it and force the rest of the team to their level, that is what has been missing the last 3 years, leadership on the field. I will say that if Texas can field some leaders you will see a return to the good days, if not, you will see Texas continue to slide and Mack will be gone.

A few quotes from 2015 CB Kris Boyd of Gilmer (24/7):
“I was very impressed when I was there (in Austin) a few weeks ago,” said Boyd. “I loved it there and Texas is my favorite. There are a few others, like Texas A&M, TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor and Alabama that I’m looking at, but Texas is the top school.”
“Texas is known for having a winning program with great coaches and they’re known for their defensive backs,” he said. “That's what I’m going for – Coach (Duane) Akina is a very good coach. His success with all his players that he has in the NFL really stands out to me.”
“I’ve talked to them (Texas) at least a few times since I left the camp,” said Boyd. “I call Coach Akina a lot. Our last talk was probably four or five days ago. I like talking to him.”
“Recruiting has been going good and I’m getting a feel for how the coaches are,” he said. “That helps my process a lot. I also want to take a visit to Texas A&M and Baylor, because I’m still thinking on my decision."
“I also want to visit Texas again though,” he added. “I want to see how the city is. I’d like to spend some time with the current players too. I just don’t know when I will go visit yet.”

Quotes from the father of DE Derick Roberson on the status of his son's Texas commitment (HornsNation):
“He is still 100 percent with Texas,” Erick Roberson said. “Some of those tweets, he, uh, he got upset with one of his little girlfriends and was saying ‘I can’t wait to get out of Texas to get away from some of these people at his school.’ That’s all it is. It has nothing to do with UT. He even told me the other day that as long as Mack [Brown] is there [he’ll stay] because he chose to play for him.”
“The last two schools that he spoke to are LSU and Alabama,” Erick Roberson said. “I know both of them have offered him. As far as we talked last, and that was a couple of weeks ago, he hasn’t mentioned any of them.”
“He’s been a Longhorns fan for a while,” his father said. “I think it all goes back to, ironically enough, when we were out in Las Vegas and UT beat USC in that championship game. That’s really when he became a Longhorns fan. That’s what it comes from."
“He was a big Vince Young fan. He was actually born in San Antonio so we stayed here for a while then we moved out to Las Vegas and he was a USC fan for a while. But he’s always been UT.”
“That’s all it is. He’s solid with UT,” Erick Roberson said. “I’m pretty sure he is firm with UT. His interest has sparked a little bit but I don’t anticipate him changing his commitment unless something dramatic happens at UT as far as the coaching staff goes. But he’s not planning on decommitting or going anywhere else. We have coaches call here all the time and he doesn’t even want to talk to them. That’s where he is right now.”

Kind of a weird update on S Jamal Adams from 24/7. He says he's probably pushing back his decision date to September because he knows he's not ready, but he plans on taking an official visit to Florida on November 30th when they take on FSU. So, either he's a Gator in September or he's not making a decision until after his senior season.

A few quotes from RB Leonard Fournette on Texas (24/7):
“Me and my parents have been talking to Coach (Mack) Brown and Coach (Larry) Porter,” said Fournette.
“I love it out there (in Austin),” Fournette said. “I’m going to take one of my officials to Texas. Me and Jermaine have taken a look at them before and now he’s committed. I’m going to take another look at them again and see how I like it. I haven't scheduled any official visits just yet though.”
“Jermaine (Roberts) and Courtney (Garnett) are not trying to influence me to do anything,” he said. “Whatever decision I make, they’re happy with it.”
“I do talk to Javan Felix some though,” added Fournette. “He tells me about the college experience. He tells me how it’s like coming from high school to college. He loves it down there. I talked to him last time I visited.”
“I do not have any favorites at all,” Fournette said. “I’m just looking for a school where I can feel at home.”

Update on 2015 OL Trevor Elbert of Rockwall-Heath (24/7):
“I’ve had time to really think about that (Texas) offer now,” said Elbert. “It’s been a month, so I’ve reflected on it. The one main thing is that I’m no longer in shock about it, but at the same time, I’m still definitely greatly appreciative of it.”
“Right now I’d say that the Texas offer is one I’ll always keep in my options of schools,” Elbert said. “But for the moment, I’m open. I’m going to try and get more offers if I can to see. I don’t really have any favorites right now. I don’t even know when I want to have a list of favorites.”
“They’re a school I like a lot,” he said. “They’re recruiting me very hard, probably one of the hardest. There’s a lot to like about them and I’ve been very impressed with everything I’ve seen from them.”
“I’m heading down to Texas on July 27th,” Elbert said. “I plan to tour the campus and see more of it. It’s actually going to be my first real unofficial visit, so I don’t really know what to expect or to look for, but I’m ready to go check them out some more.”
“The coaching staff at Texas is one of the best,” said Elbert. “What stands out to me about them is their determination to be the best team in the nation. They have a great attitude, so that, along with how determined they are and how straight to the point they are, really makes me like them a lot. I’m anxious to get a chance to know them all better.”

And just for the record, I do know that chances with Fournette and Luatua aren't that good, but I'll keep them where they're at since they keep talking about making an official visit. Obviously Texas has no shot if that doesn't happen. Harvey and Springs are considered candidates for late flips.

Thanks for the breakdown, TFloss! I would also add Jamal Adams to the Leaders list. I think it is
up to Mack & Co. to close the deal with him based on the team's performance on the field this season.
If not, he'll be a Gator.

Floss, do you really think Darrion Johnson is a pipe-dream? You name JUCO as a possibility, but I've never had the expression that grades were that big of a problem, to be honest. But I might be, and possibly are, wrong on that one. I'm really looking forward to see what happens to him this season, since he could become a "main target" again if all the other CB's goes to other teams. We do know he have the talent to be a great cornerback!

I haven't seen anyone mention Darrion as a possibility at this stage. 24/7 has reported a few times it would be difficult getting him into school and there seem to be other issues nobody wants to talk about (including him having a child). I really hope JUCO or a D1 college is in his future because this one has the feel of an extremely talented kid who seems to just fade away once high school ends.

To those not following closely, seems the two prize recruits that have always been huge Texas leans seem to be fading in probability. By all accounts, Jamal Adams is infatuated with the SEC and in light of quotes/twitter/comments circulated I would have to think he is definitely a Florida lean at this point. Additionally - the experts all seem to be picking Solomon Thomas to Stanford. Those are your two big need positions and top targets - not good. To add insult to injury, some experts think John Bonney may be favoring Baylor.

Don't buy into Texas' 2013 chances just yet; more mail

Stewart, Phil Steele has Texas listed at No. 4 in his preseason rankings. While he may have received some inside information from Bevo, I remain skeptical. I like Texas and would enjoy seeing it hang 50 points on Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. What are your thoughts on the Longhorns this year?
-- Mark G, Folsom, Pa.
Phil puts a lot of stock into recruiting rankings and NFL draft potential. In other words, he places a lot of weight on raw talent. It's no coincidence, then, that he seems to have a soft spot for the sport's bluebloods: He ranks Florida State No. 3 (current preseason consensus (http://preseason.stassen.com/consensus/2013.html) No. 13), Texas No. 4 (consensus No. 14) and, most astonishingly, USC No. 6 (consensus No. 21).
Conversely, he's a bit lower than most on the likes of No. 11 Stanford (consensus No. 4), No. 13 Texas A&M (consensus No. 6) and No. 14 South Carolina (consensus No. 7).
Phil is right about one thing: I saw Texas in the spring, and the 'Horns most certainly pass the eye test. In regard to size and speed, they look very much like a vintage Mack Brown team. Most notably, quarterback David Ash is now surrounded by a plethora of playmaking receivers (Mike Davis, Jaxon Shipley, Cayleb Jones, running back/receiver Daje Johnson and more). They've still got the talented running back trio of Malcolm Brown, Johnathan Gray and Joe Bergeron, who may finally all be healthy at the same time. Potential All-America Jackson Jeffcoat's return from last year's season-ending injury boosts what should be an excellent front four, and Texas has good experience in the secondary, led by cornerbacks Quandre Diggs and Carrington Byndom.
Still, unlike Phil, I'm reluctant to completely buy in. If this were 2009 and Texas returned 19 starters, I'd be inclined to pencil the 'Horns in for a BCS championship game berth. But after watching them flounder to an 11-15 Big 12 record over the past three seasons, I'm not confident saying Texas will rise up and go 12-1. Brown has assembled a solid staff. Offensive coordinator Major Applewhite had a nice play-calling debut in the Alamo Bowl against Oregon State, and the decision to go full-on no-huddle makes sense in the already frenzied Big 12. He'll get the ball in playmakers' hands. Defensive coordinator Manny Diaz's unit was a train wreck last season, but he's earned the right to a mulligan. Texas will be the most talented team in the Big 12 and perhaps the favorite to win the league, but the past few years have instilled too much doubt, and there are too many questions defensively to assume the 'Horns will make it past Oklahoma (which has crushed them the past two seasons), Oklahoma State, TCU, Kansas State and Baylor with one loss or fewer.

Looks like we can move OL Joseph Paul of New Orleans, LA back into the category of realistic targets. He's saying he will be in Austin on July 27th, according to 24/7. This is the third or fourth time he's scheduled a visit to campus since committing to Florida and he's never made it, so we'll see if he shows up. Update on DE Solomon Thomas from an anonymous source (24/7):
“I wouldn’t call these favorites,” said the source. “I think that right now he’s interested in just a few main schools. Texas, of course, is in it, the California schools he’s visited (Stanford and UCLA), Ohio State, Alabama and Notre Dame would be the ones I feel like he’s mainly interested in.”
“From what he’s told me he wants to get it down to right around five schools,” the source said. “I’m thinking he’ll go to five or six schools right when the season begins or right before it. The plan for him at this moment is to take five official visits, then narrow it down again and make a decision.”
“I feel like they’ll (Texas) be in it until the very end,” the source said. “They are a team he’s always really liked, so I can’t imagine a scenario where they aren’t in it until the day he makes his decision. I’m not saying he’ll pick Texas, but they should always be an option.”

“I’m going out there (Austin) on July 27,” Paul said. “I’m just trying to make sure that I’m making the right decision by choosing Florida. There's always a chance that I could change my mind if I had a really good visit.”
“I’ve still been hearing from them (Texas),” he said. “Honestly though, Jermaine (Roberts) is really the one doing all the recruiting. The coaches send messages through him for me as well. Personally, he tells me that Texas is the team I need to come to. The coaches tell him to tell me they need me and want me to be a Longhorn and that type of stuff.”
“Them having Jermaine (Roberts) is something that really helps them,” said Paul. “Plus, they have Courtney (Garnett) committed to them and I know that Leonard (Fournette) really likes them a lot, too. With those guys all looking at Texas or being committed to them, then I have to be as well.”

Quotes from 2015 DT Daylon Mack on his recruitment (24/7). He's told both A&M and Texas sites that Alabama is not in the running:
“I’m not going to be committing anywhere anytime soon,” Mack said. “At this point I’m not thinking about committing right now and I’m not really heavily leaning on any school anymore like I was. I just plan to take my time out and check out certain schools.”
“Texas has a good chance just like Texas A&M does,” he said. “At this point I’m not sure where I'll go now. I’m definitely equal and high on both of them. They’re both sitting in the same spot now.”
“Now it's Texas and Texas A&M at the top,” Mack explained. “Then it’s Miami, Clemson and Texas Tech making up the rest of my list.”
“I talked to Coach (Bo) Davis and rescheduled my visit,” said Mack. “I’ll be coming down there on July 27 and I can’t wait to get down there and visit. When talking to him I also explained to him that I’m wide open now and Texas was a school I’m strongly considering.”
“One of the things I’m looking forward to the most is getting to chill with Coach Davis,” Mack said. “He is my favorite defensive line coach out of everyone I’ve met in this process. So getting down there to get to hang out with him and be around him is very big. I’m looking forward to that a lot really.”
“I think I’ll be making it by the end of this upcoming season,” he said. “I’ll make it after I see more from my favorite schools.”

The latest with S John Bonney of Houston Lamar (OrangeBloods):
"My family and I are going to sit down and talk about everything, try to get down to a decision," Bonney said. "I'd rather just get it together, do what we have to do to make a decision."
"I have 30-something offers. I know I'm not going to go to all of those schools, but I don't even really know the number (that are still under consideration). That's how crazy this stuff is," Bonney said. "There are some schools that you think about and some that you say 'They're really good but I'd need to look into them more.' But all that stuff has to get cut down pretty soon."
"They're (Texas) definitely on my list. It's a great school," Bonney said. "Coach Akina's track record is awesome. They're one of the schools that I've liked since they've offered me. Especially being in Texas - I plan on living in Texas so that's always a good thing."
"But being out on the West Coast, it's pretty nice weather and being able to see Stanford was good. The academics are great, as well as Cal-Berkely and UCLA. And my brother lives out here, so I have family out here too. It's a tough decision. I can only go to one school, so I have to figure that out."
"That definitely helps (good academics). With my dad being a lawyer, he knows the importance of academics. So that definitely plays a big part and helps some schools," Bonney said. "A perfect example is Cal - they didn't do great this year on the field, but they have good academics and that draws my family and me to that. Stanford had a great year and is good in football. That (academics) is a big factor."
"It's Texas. They have some luxuries that most schools don't have," Bonney said. "Beyond the football point, politics and all that stuff, they know people that you want to know, especially in the business world."
Are there pics of what's replacing Players (the business school extension)?

After watching that video I came away loving this kids footwork and at the same time thinking, I bet this is what Chris Simms looked like between his junior and senior year in high school. I'm watching him throw to NFL wide receivers and thinking it is much easier to throw to a receiver who is so damn good he can make even a bad throw look perfect. With all the air he was putting under the ball I don't think he has a very strong arm, but this is college not the NFL so you never know.
I do trust Applewhite so if he like him, I'd feel great about picking him up.

"I've already visited Texas a bunch of times. When I visit Ole Miss, I'll know for sure. If I'm sure where I want to go, if it's Ole Miss, I'll call the coaches. If it's Texas I'll do it at the Stampede," Evans said.
"I know they're (Ole Miss) a team coming up, a team ready to compete and they'll be a good team next year. But I really don't know a lot, so I'm going up there to see what they have to offer."
"I like the coaches (at Texas), how they coach, how they're energetic about their craft. I like the facilities. I have a few friends down there, so that gives them the edge. The field is always nice and how they treat us while we're there, that's always nice."

The latest with 2015 QB Jarrett Stidham of Stephenville (24/7):
“I mostly talk to Coach (Major) Applewhite,” said Stidham. “He’s been the one who has recruited me, talked to me and came to see me for everything. We haven’t had a chance to talk much the last few weeks though. I’ve tried to call a few times but he’s been on vacation and I’ve been busy with camps, so we haven’t talked recently.”
“I like Coach Applewhite a lot,” he said. “I like that he’s really intense. I love that about him actually. I also love how he coaches his quarterbacks and all that. He’s just a great guy both on and off the field. I always enjoy getting to talk to him and look forward to getting to know him better. He’s a big reason I like Texas.”
“I leave after the state 7-on-7 tournament to visit two SEC schools,” Stidham said. “I’m going to Alabama on Sunday and staying there Monday and Tuesday to check them out. After that I’m going to Kentucky for a week to see family, do a camp there and visit the school."
“I know Texas is having a camp later this month,” he added. “So it’s possible that I go to it as well, but I honestly don’t know yet. I haven’t heard a lot about it, so it’s up in the air for right now. I’ll absolutely be down for some games though. I’m not sure which ones yet, but I'll be there for sure.”
“I have no favorites right now,” said Stidham. “I won’t have any for a while. I’ll probably start narrowing it down more next winter and into the spring.”

Per 24/7, S Jamal Adams will be using his official visit to Texas on September 14th against Ole Miss.
That will probably be a really big recruiting weekend.
TexAgs just reported that Aggie commit Dylan Sumner-Gardner said he didn't try to recruit Jamal Adams at the opening because everyone knows where he's going already. Florida was the implication.
Not surprising of course, but just thought that was an interesting note.

Update on 2015 DT Daylon Mack of Gladewater (HornsNation):
“I did it (opened up his recruitment) because I really don’t know where I want to go,” Mack said. “I’m high on a couple of teams but I’m not really 100 percent sure.”
“I called and told him (Bo Davis) I was very open,” Mack said. “I’m not making a decision anytime soon. It’ll probably be this time next year. They (Texas) have a lot of time to recruit me.”
“I guess the SEC thing has worn off on me,” Mack said. “If you’re a good player, you’ll get drafted regardless. It’s all about winning. That’s all it is for me.”
“It’s really open,” he said. “The A&M fans still think no matter what I’m going there. But it’s not like that. I really don’t know where I’m going to go. I really don’t.”
“One of the reasons I like Texas and want to go there is they’re set up for a huge class,” he said. “Soso Jamabo, that’s a five-star. Maea Teuhema is a five-star. Then there’s me, Larry Pryor, Malik Jefferson. That’s going to be a pretty dominant class and all just Texas kids. That’s a big reason -- I want to play with great players.”
“Coach Davis said they’re going to bring in the guys they’re highly recruiting,” Mack said. “I was happy, because it’s been a while since I talked to Coach Davis and I always love talking with him. We have a good relationship. Getting to talk with him 1-on-1 would be really nice. It’s going to be a family-type thing, just chilling and hanging out with the staff.”

“I’ll either commit sometime before the season or next year,” Boyd said. “I’m waiting until I feel right.”
“I did kind of expect they (Texas) would offer me, but I didn’t think it would be this year,” Boyd said. “I was pretty shocked. But the performance I had at camp shocked even myself.”
“I got excited about that (hearing from Oregon),” he said. “I like everything about Oregon. Besides the weather – I know it’s pretty cold out there – everything else is OK.”
“I’m pretty excited about that (the Texas Stampede),” Boyd said. “I want to see some of the players there and spend time with them. I want to see what the place is like and what there is to do on campus.”

“I think it’s my size and my athleticism,” he said. “I think the size that I have sticks out to a lot of schools. I’m a bigger safety. I think my size might give me more range and I can cover more area than other players playing my position.”
“Texas is probably, I don’t want to say they are my favorite, but they are one of my favorites,” he said. “The whole coaching staff is real cool. I went down there for a couple of visits and just really like it down there. It’s a family atmosphere.”
“Oh yeah, Coach Akina and me are real cool,” he said. “He’s a great coach. I like his attitude and the way he coaches. I know about his track record. He has a lot of guys in the NFL.”
“It’s really important because I am going to spend most of my time around the coaches and the players,” he said. “I definitely have to like the coach. I definitely love Coach Akina.”

“Those are the two conferences showing me the most interest,” Townsend said. “If those are the people who want me, that’s who I want to be around too. I’ve got big looks from most of the Pac-12 and Big 12 schools. I do believe that the spread attack is something I should be playing against. They have a lot of that.”
“I’m only 16, man!” he said. “I’m only 16. I can move real good. I’m still developing. Of course I want to gain weight, but I’m not about to jump to 215 or 220 now. That’s just not me."
“I’m doing well, I had a good sophomore season, I plan on having an even better junior season. I think my play will speak for itself for the schools that really matter.”
“Texas was my first offer. They really set the standard,” Townsend said. “Everything I see now -- and I’m going to be honest, nobody got Texas on the weight room -- I’m comparing them.”
“I don’t have any top anything just yet,” Townsend said. “But Texas is one of of the best schools in the Big 12, they were my first offer, they’re close to home. I wouldn’t just say, ‘Oh yeah, they’re my No. 1 right now,’ but I am heavily interested in them.”

S John Bonney talks about a possible August decision (HornsNation):
"Yeah, I still want to make a decision before my first game this year," Bonney said.
"There are a lot of schools that are on the top of my list," Bonney said. "I haven't put out a top-numbered list. I like Texas. I liked all the California schools I went to. TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma, I really like a lot, coach [Bob] Stoops and everybody up there. We'll just see how everything goes."
"It was a great trip (to Cal, Stanford and UCLA)," Bonney said. "I learned a lot about the three campuses I was at. I knew about Stanford's academics and everything, but I didn't realize the campus was as big as it was. Cal-Berkeley, I didn't realize their academics were as high as they were, so I learned a lot about that. UCLA has a great campus. I really like the coaching staff over there."
"I've got only a couple of weeks before two-a-days start, so if I'm going to do it, it has to be soon," he said. "We're hoping we can get that out of the way."
"I'm going wherever the best fit is for me," he said. "If that's out of Texas, then that's how it's going to have to be."

“The last time I talked to him (Bo Davis) was about three days ago when I called him,” said Mack. “He told me he couldn’t wait to get me and my family down there. He said he’s ready to hang out with us. I told him I couldn’t wait to get down there and talk with him and the rest of the staff. He also explained how much he really wanted me at Texas.”
“It could be something that does affect my decision,” Mack said. “I have the best relationship with Coach Davis. He's my favorite coach to talk to out of all of them. He's just a good, cool guy and someone I’d be friends with even if he wasn’t a coach or I wasn’t a player he was recruiting."
“Coach Davis is really good at teaching players how to get better,” he added. “He teaches you how to get better with your hands especially and that’s something you can never be too good at. It’s something I want to improve on more and he’s one of the best to do that.”
“I also talk to Coach (Mack) Brown and Coach (Stacy) Searels,” said Mack. “They’re both great. I love talking to both of them. Coach Searels is actually my main recruiter, but Coach Davis is after me a lot too. They’re all great coaches, just like Coach Davis.”

"It's the atmosphere, the family I already have there, the brothers I have there, the coaches (Bruce Chambers) are basically part of my family for a while," English said.
"I'll be a short, stocky defensive tackle that wants to get after it," English said. "I can rush the passer, clog the hole, do whatever they want me to do."
"The other schools just say come to their school, we're SEC country and those types of things. I just read it and let it go by," English said. "I want to focus more on my pass rushing. They're going to move me out to end a little bit to see how that works."
"He's (Mack Brown) a great guy. He's energetic, he's classy and he likes to win," English said of Brown. "I'm glad I made the decision I did."

Heard that Leonard was a beast at the event, and that some of his private workouts has been slipped out to the public, resulting in ESPN's Damon Sayles calling him a stud and bigtime player. Also if Beck doesn't work out at LB he could always move to TE where Florida recruited him. No guarantees John Thomas will qualify.

Maybe with which periods coaches are allowed to call players and how many times and which periods recruits are allowed to call coaches?

Here's a good breakdown. You can see that college football recruiting is currently in a "quiet period" and coaches aren't allowed to visit recruits or call them which is why you see a lack of news. However, I believe Facebook interaction is still allowed year-round. You'll see prospects starting to take official visits on opening weekend which is August 29th through September 2nd (Labor Day). You'll also notice that the rules are different depending on which grade a prospect is in.

Update from S Jamal Adams (OrangeBloods):
"Am I tired? I'm worn out, honestly," responded Adams with a smile about his summer filled with camps across the country and tournaments. "It's a blessing, really, to complete with the top guys in the nation."
"Really being humble about yourself," said Adams about what he's taken away from the events this summer. "It's an honor. A lot of people would love to do it, and I couldn't complain about it."
"It's not unsure," said the four-star about the decision-making process. "I have some schools in my mind. It's really just breaking it down, not about football, just breaking it down one-by-one."
"They're both in Texas and one is in Florida," said Adams about the trio of schools associated with him the most. "I'm looking at Ole Miss as well and Ohio State. Looking at everyone and it really doesn't play any factor how far it is. It's just the best fit for me."
"They're kind of all hitting me hard," Adams said. "Texas and Florida are really hitting me pretty hard."
"They're all the same. Nothing really different. They feed you everything," Adams said. "You have to separate the real from the fake."
"You find out the real ones and the fake ones that really want you, and who feed you some of the stuff you don't want to hear and some of the stuff you want to hear," Adams said.
"Honesty, I would have to say coaches who say, 'You can come here and start right off the bat.' And then they say 'But if you go to Florida or Alabama or LSU they won't even know who you are there and you won't start and won't play.' All that stuff," Adams said. "[I] can play. There are so many people that have started there and played. I would have to say that's probably the worst thing I've heard."
"It does (make the process tougher), but then again it makes it easy. A coach that tells you that really doesn't want you," Adams said.
"I feel I can play anywhere," the Hebron standout said. "I pretty much have all the offers. For a coach to tell me that, that doesn't matter to me. I feel for myself I'm the best safety in the country so I keep a positive attitude about everything."
"I'm shooting for an August date, but if not, it's after my officials," he said.

The latest with LB/S Edwin Freeman of Arlington Bowie (24/7):
“There’s really nothing going on now with my recruitment,” said Freeman. “Texas is my favorite school like they've been since the spring. It’s Texas, Texas A&M and TCU in that order.”
“I still want to visit them,” Freeman said of LSU. “I still would like to make that trip happen, but I don’t know if it'll for sure [happen] or not. I sort of want to see what they have to offer, but I just don’t know when I'd be able to make it down there. My season is right around the corner so I don’t know if I'll visit any other schools now. I guess we’ll see. I haven’t worried about it too much really.”
“I still talk to all three coaching staffs,” Freeman said. “I’d say I probably talk to Texas the most, especially on the phone, but it’s not like we talk every day or anything. They also send me a lot of mail and hand written letters. The Texas A&M coaches try to talk to me on Facebook, but honestly I don’t even get on there much at all. TCU talks to me as well and they still try to recruit me.”
“If I were to make a decision today I would be picking Texas,” he said. “I’ve always been such a big Longhorn fan and they’ve always done a good job of recruiting me. I like them a lot. I’m not sure anyone will be able to knock them off from the top spot now.”

“I feel like recruiting is going really well for me at this point,” said Hill. “I’m going to these camps, putting in hard work and getting really good feedback. I guess they like me because they’ve all offered at every camp I’ve gone to except one."
“I’ve camped at Texas, Baylor, TCU, Colorado and Texas Tech,” he added. “All of them offered me right after they saw me except Texas, which has been great for me. I’m very appreciative of all those offers that I have received so far.”
“I’m going to work as hard as possible to get that offer from the Longhorns,” Hill said. “I really want it. I’ll be steady working to get the Texas offer. I’ll be glad to do whatever it takes, whether that is having a great season and impressing them that way, or by going to more of their camps so I can keep showing them what I can do.”
“I like their program a lot,” he said. “I like their defensive schemes and their defensive backs coach especially. From what I hear, he’s the best defensive backs coach there is out there and I know he’s done really well with getting his guys recognized and into the NFL. The way he uses his DBs and just how he has so much success with them is something that stands out to me. It definitely grabs my attention, that’s for sure.”
“I must say, an offer from Texas would mean a lot to me,” said Hill. “They are a school I really like. I’ve always been a fan of theirs and would love to get that offer. If something like that happens, it’s one of those situations where it could change everything for you. It would be a big deal.”
“If John (Bonney) ended up picking them (Texas) that would definitely be another thing that would help that decision if I got offered,” said Hill. “It would be great to play with him again at the next level. We could keep on making big plays together, just like we do in high school.”

It will be hard to find a better position coach than him. I have a lot of trust in him and I think he’ll begin to get a lot out of his guys this year."
“I like the entire coaching staff that’s there though,” he added. “They’re just all great guys and coaches. They’re some of the best at what they do.”
“They told me they want me to come down later this month on the 27th (for the Texas Stampede),” said Lodge. “I’ve been there three times now, with my last one being just a few weeks ago. Still though, I enjoy it there and will try to make it down again.”
“Everything is still the same with my recruitment,” said Lodge. “I plan to really take my time. I’m going to take a lot more visits before I commit to anywhere. I want to see where I fit in, so I’m just taking my time with the process. I’m chilling and am in no hurry. I want to see what everyone has to offer, because I’ve only visited three schools so far."
“I have a few visits in mind that I'd like to take,” he adeed. “LSU, Auburn, Florida and maybe Ohio State are some of those. I like those southern schools where it stays warm.”
“When I make a choice the name of the school isn’t going to make a difference,” Lodge said. “I wouldn’t pick a school like Texas or LSU or Florida just based on their name and because they’re popular. I feel like some players do that, but I don’t want to. The main thing is that I want to choose a school based on their quality education. If football doesn’t work out, you have to have something to fall back on, so that’s very important."
“I want to make sure that I can come in and be a factor on their team,” he added. “I want to know that they’ll be able to use me in their offense. That doesn’t mean I have to see the field right away, but I want to make sure they can use me effectively and have big plans for me in the future.”

2015 S Johnny Shaw talks about his life since Hurricane Rita hit his hometown of Beaumont (HornsNation):
“I believe that if Hurricane Rita wouldn’t have happened I would have just been a schoolboy, just worried about my school work instead of a football player,” said Shaw Jr., who is ranked as the No. 174 player in the ESPN Junior 300. “Growing up my mom and dad were really hard on us about school. We had to have As and Bs.”
“I didn’t know where we were going (after leaving Beaumont), if we were ever going to make it back, if we were even going to survive,” Shaw Jr. said. “I didn’t know where we were going to stay, what school I was going to go to, how was I going to meet new friends.”
“It’s like a total loss. It’s devastating,” Shaw Sr. said. “It displaced us. But still God made a way for us in the midst of the storm.”
“For me, it just really made me think that I had to get out there and try and make my life better,” Shaw Jr. said. “I still think about it all the time today.”
“It was a blessing,” Shaw Jr. said of the hurricane. “If the hurricane didn’t come I wouldn’t be where I am at today. There is a reason why I am in this situation. I am thankful. God did that for a reason to get us out of there. There are a lot of people in Beaumont. I didn’t think I’d get recognized there. But here, there is a smaller population on the football team.”
“Texas was on my mind before other teams came and saw me,” he said. “I always wanted to go to Texas. But when TCU offered me it was a full ride. I could go to college. A lot of people down here in Center don’t get D-I offers. So I jumped on that opportunity. So TCU came first and surprised me. Then Texas came.”
“The feeling -- I couldn’t even believe it at first,” he said. “It’s been a dream to play for the Longhorns. When they offered me I was shocked. Time just stopped for me. I was shocked that it happened.”

Quotes from 2015 RB JaMycal Hasty of Longview (OrangeBloods):
"Right now I have offers from Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor and Texas A&M," Hasty said. "As far as the one that's sticking out, with it being so early, they're all about the same. No one is really ahead of anyone else."
"Growing up, that (A&M) was my favorite school," Hasty said. "I had a cousin that went there, so ever since I was young A&M was my favorite school."
"Back in the spring, coach (Stacy) Searels gave me a card to contact them but I haven't talked to them very much yet," Hasty said. "I do know that they load up on running backs. That's the first thing that comes to mind. They love to pick up running backs. If my recruitment picks up from them, I'll definitely be interested."
"I want to go somewhere that I feel comfortable. I plan on majoring in kinesiology, so somewhere that's good in that field," Hasty said. "Early playing time really is not that important, but if I can play, that's great. Really, just somewhere where they take me in and I feel like I'm at Longview all over again."

Yeah... voting Texas to finish in the top 4 of this conference is being extremely, extremely generous.

You can make an argument that they can finish higher, but until they live up to their potential, I think it's a fair place. It truly is a make or break year, so hopefully they can end in the top 3 at worst. Any lower than that and the program could be in for a few more lean years. At least by Texas standards.

Define horrible. What do you predict their record will be? As good as Vaccaro is, last time I checked it, took more than one player to win games. I think the games against the Oklahoma schools will determine how good or bad their season will be.
i can see texas finish at anywhere between 1-4. i actually think that tcu and baylor will challenge for the title, it would be crazy if baylor actually wins the big XII this year. they do have a favorable schedule and i think they will finally have a defense that will be able to get them some stops. seastrunk is a stud.

I was not very optimistic until recently. Bringing Robinson in to help with the defense was the smartest move Mack has made in a very long time. You can say what you want about Greg Robinson as a head coach but the man knows how to coach and run a defense. When he took over back in 2003, that defense was much like our defense we had today, lots of talent but little direction. In 2004 he made that defense the best in Mack's tenure at Texas. If he can duplicate that, then you will see Texas challenge for the MNC.
There is no doubt this is a talented team, all the doubt lies with the coaches, well for me, a lot of that went away when Greg Robinson came aboard.

7 or fewer wins = horrible imo. With the resources that Texas has, a "bad year" should be a 10 win season. Vaccaro was an excellent safety and an excellent cover corner. Losing him will not make the team better. I'm thinking Texas will lose to both Oklahoma schools.
"Horrible" by my definition is .500 or below. A lot of bad things had to happen for 2010 to turn out the way it did.
Horrible, imo, is fewer than 8 wins. 7-5 is what I think this team will go and that's just absurd with the resources that Texas has.

Texas gave up 30 or more points 5 times in the 2 years combined before Robinson took over the defense. In 2004, when he was running the defense, Texas gave up 30 or more points 2 times. It's not like the defense was horrible before he took over and he made it the #1 defense in the country. He did improve it some, but it wasn't some drastic change. To put it into perspective, the Texas defense gave up 30 or more points 6 times in 2012.

Aside from what others have already mentioned, there is also the fact that this team is no longer a young team and has gotten progressively better over the tenure of most of the players. I think they have as good a shot as anyone in the conference right now to come out on top. I do agree with you though that if they lose four this season we may see some big changes.

one of those two games you mention was against Michigan and it wasn't the defense that game up 30 pts it was the special teams that got it's but kicked with several huge run backs.
The other game was to OSU which was the game we spotted them 35 pts and came back and beat them 56-35. One of the greatest comebacks in Texas history. Not only did we come back from 35 down but Texas didn't allow a single point in the 2nd half.
Like I said, I'm excited about this years team and only a dumbass aggsy troll would call this team a 7-5 team even without Robinson this team is much better than that.

This is new to me with Mack new approach of offering younger kids, but I think the 2015 class could be one of his best. This is going to be a huge year. I think they need to win 10 to keep this class together and add a few 5-star types. Manziel and a&m taking a step backwards would help.

I believe the unsung hero is Patrick Suddes. I wish he would've been in Austin in time to get his hands on the 2014 class because it's obvious interest from big-time prospects has been lacking. Up until he arrived, Texas was relying on program prestige to get by hoping kids would continue to crawl to Austin, but that's just not the case anymore. The implementation of his ideas has made a huge difference and generated a positive buzz. I do agree that winning is the biggest issue, however. We could very well see the 2015 guys start looking elsewhere if the upcoming season doesn't go well.

“I didn’t think I was going to be interested in Baylor, honestly. I’ll tell you that right now,” Jefferson said. “But I went and had the time of my life. Just going for that little visit, stuff like that makes me think I should slow down. I was going a little too fast.”
“I’m giving everyone a chance,” he said. “With Texas, I wouldn’t put them No. 1 on my list yet because it’s a battle.”
“I really can’t wait to see what that is (the Texas Stampede),” Jefferson said. “I’m kind of thinking it’s a big dinner or something like that.”

2015 DT Daylon Mack talks more about his recruitment (OrangeBloods):
"I just hope to get up there (Austin) and have another good time. I always have good time up there talking with coach (Stacy) Searels, (Bo) Davis and Mack Brown," Mack said. "But what's really going to sell me on Texas is the upcoming season. I've already seen the campus and all those things, now I just need to see how they do."
"He (Bo Davis) really was the person that recruited me the hardest. He kind of slowed down because he figured I was going to A&M. rightfully so. I don't blame him. But he was the first person I told that I was slowing it down," Mack said. "I want to commit this time next year."
"He was really excited. He said that's great and he's going to continue to recruit me hard. He does - he recruits me harder than anyone. I have the best relationship with him. He's just a guy I could be friends with even if I wasn't a high profile football player and he wasn't a coach. That's something I cherish."
"I guess you could say they (Mack's parents) favor UT. My dad did grow up being a Longhorn fan, but he also wants to make the decision that's going to make me happy," Mack said. "They really don't push me to any one school, they just want me to be happy."
"We're (the "East Texas Six") still trying to do it (commit to the same school). We're really serious about it. I just got done texting Malik (Jefferson) not too long ago. We talk about it quite often," Mack said. "If it happens, it's good. I don't think all six of us would end up at the same place, but maybe four of the six would end up there."
"That's funny. I texted them (the other recruits) with a question like that not too long ago (about Malik Jefferson committing to Texas). They kind of said I don't know what we'd do, but it would be pretty tempting. They'd (Texas) have a good chance of getting me if that happens. Get that to happen and a 10-win season and they'd probably have me," Mack said.

From what I've heard a certain SEC booster is buddy buddy with a DFW power. Once I get the booster's name...fireworks. Just need his name. EricNahlin 2h
Probably shouldn't tweet this, but don't care. Ole Miss' newest recruit was emotional when his parent said he couldn't commit to UT 1 mo ago

Team injury update released by UT recently:
*The following players have been released to return to full participation:
Junior OT Josh Cochran (lower left leg), senior OG Trey Hopkins (lower left leg), junior LB Tevin Jackson (right shoulder) and senior DE Jackson Jeffcoat (right shoulder/pectoral muscle).
*The following players all had recent procedures to address lingering hip injuries. All three will be limited at the start of preseason training camp, progressively work back into full practice and are expected to be at full speed and ready to go for the season opener: Junior CB Quandre Diggs, junior WR Jaxon Shipley and junior S Josh Turner.
*Senior WR Mike Davis underwent hernia surgery recently, will be limited at the start of preseason training camp, but is expected to be at full speed and ready to go for the season opener.
*Senior LB Demarco Cobbs (right knee surgery), will be out for the beginning of preseason training camp but is expected to return to practice near the end of that session.

They started on twitter calling themselves the Fab Five and then changed to East Texas Five. They picked up another and pretty soon it will be more - they twitter about getting a QB all the time

Dhaq Williams is a great pickup for Auburn. Might be the best offensive player on the team the second he steps on campus.
Apparently decommitted from LSU due to concerns over his safety. His cousin was shot at a party (he's from Reserve, La.) and then he was told that he was next. He also got beat up and robbed outside of a gas station.
Anyway, LSU people just rave about him, even after he moved to Auburn. Might be a one and done, and there are even rumblings that he may just declare for the draft since he's old enough (and apparently good enough, from what I've seen and read)

Update on 2015 WR Kemah Siverand from Cypress Ridge (24/7):
“I’m going down there (Austin) on Saturday,” said Siverand. “Since I’ve been there a couple of times already, I’m not going for any particular reason other than just to keep on getting a better feel for Texas, the program they have and their coaches.”
“I keep in touch with them the most I can,” Siverand said. “I mainly talk to the offensive coaches though. They’re a school I’m still considering pretty heavily. I’m definitely interested in them, a lot actually. I’m not going to say they’re a favorite, because I have none, but they’re definitely on my mind, I'll say that.”
“They (Texas) are being the most genuine about things,” he said. “I'd say that they've kept in touch the most, more than anyone. Due to the NCAA rules I haven’t talked to them much lately, but they're recruiting me harder than anyone right now.”
“Like I said, Texas has been good keeping up with me,” Siverand said. “They were also the first school to show up in the picture for me. I’m open to anyone, but I have a solid relationship with them. There's a lot to like about Texas.”
“I’m not going to pick anyone yet,” he said. “I might come out with a top three after my junior season is over and go from there."

2015 DT Tevin Boone of Cleburne is on commitment watch this upcoming Saturday (24/7):
“Texas told me to come down and that they wanted me there (at the Stampede),” Boone said. “They told me to bring my parents or a guardian like my coach when I came. I’m really hoping it leads to an offer honestly.”
“If they did offer I would talk to my mom to see what I should do,” said Boone. “Most likely, she would tell me to take it. I feel like I’d probably commit to Texas as soon as I got done talking it over with her.”

Quotes from an anonymous source on 2015 CB Kris Boyd (24/7):
“I don’t see him remaining uncommitted much longer,” said the source. “It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him putting an end to his recruitment and committing to Texas. It could happen any time now. He loves Texas. They’re his favorite and I don’t see anyone changing that.”

The latest with 2015 QB Chason Virgil of West Mesquite (24/7):
“Nothing is really going on with recruiting right now,” said Virgil. “It’s just really slow. It’s not heavy. It’s just calm and I’m just trying to take it all in. I haven’t really heard from anyone. It’s quiet.”
“I’m anxious to get down there (to Austin),” Virgil said. “I just want to get a chance to see the campus again mostly. I also want to continue to build a closer relationship with the coaches there, like Coach (Major) Applewhite.”
“I’m just open to everyone who is interested in me,” said Virgil. “Texas is just like every other school. I’m interested in them because they’re interested in me."
“I don’t see myself even having a favorites list until after my junior season. I don’t really want to focus on that during my season. I’ll focus on that after my season is over with,” he added.

Quotes from 2015 OL Patrick Vahe before he headed to Austin (24/7):
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Vahe said. “It’s me and my family that are going. We’re supposed to get there around 10:00 a.m. and we'll be staying there for the day. I’ve heard it’s a great place, so it should be a great time.”
“I just want to visit with the coaches and take a good tour around the school more than anything,” said Vahe. “I’ve never been on campus, so I’m ready to check everything out for myself. I’m hoping to find out a lot more about the University of Texas."
“I want to check out everything, including the school. That’s very important to me. It sounds like they have really good academics and that’s something that I like about them. That, along with the success of their football program,” he added.
“Texas is my favorite school,” he said. “I have an offer from them and I’ve always grown up liking them. They have been my favorite team since I started watching football. I haven’t even looked at other teams too much. I’m not visiting any other schools either. I don’t know yet if I’ll commit or not, but it could happen.”
“It won’t really impact my decision one way or another (that the Teuhema brothers are committed to UT),” said Vahe. “I’m just trying to do my own thing. But knowing that they're going there is something I’m very proud of. If it did end up happening where we had that chance, it would be something we'd all love. It would be great to share the field with those guys.”

What would be interesting is if A&M got a commitment from Stidham before Murray, even though I expect Murray to make a decision first.
I agree Texas needs to take two. Town is a really nice prospect, but I hate the idea of putting all your hopes into pro-style guy without the ability to tuck and run. He's the only 2015 offer that's not a threat with his legs.

Yeah after GG I don't have faith in a top ranked pro style QB as the only take. Which is why Town + a dual threat would be great, assuming we actually have a chance with him.

Do y'all feel like a top rated quarterback would come here with Swopes and Heard on campus ahead of them? UT hasn't been very successful in managing that in the past. I don't know how USC under Carroll was able to convince all those top QBs to come in and sit until their Sr year in most cases, but I haven't seen Mack being able to stack that position in the past. One of the main reasons for their current situation.
