Update on TE Devonaire Clarington of Miami, FL after his official visit to UT (24/7):
"[Texas] stands the same and I can't really pull the trigger," Clarington said. "They need to keep building their dynasty. (Charlie) Strong needs to do what he did at Louisville at Texas and as soon as he does that he's probably going to be the highest paid coach in America."
"It was cool because it was a college town," Clarington said. "I see Texas everywhere. It was a college town and a big city at the same time. Miami is just a city and not a college town."
"At Texas, if you (other fans) are in any other color jersey, they are going to say something about it."
"I like to play early," Clarington said. "And the University of Texas is the biggest school in Texas and that is a big state. So if I go there, I am going to set an example for Miami and Texas at the same time."

A few quotes from WR JF Thomas of Dallas South Oak Cliff on where things stand with UT (24/7):
“‘(Texas) wants you bad, bro,’” Thomas says of the recruiting pitch from his teammates. “‘Just come with us.’”
“I was feeling good about it,” Thomas said after receiving the offer. “I was waiting on them to offer me, to be honest, and they finally did it. TCU is good, but Texas is on the next level.”
“They (Texas) are very much still recruiting me,” Thomas said. “I didn’t get to go to their last game against West Virginia. Next time Jordan (Stevenson) goes back I’m going with him.”

More from LB Cecil Cherry of Lakeland, FL (Scout):
”Man, the atmosphere, the town, the school, the football program… everything was amazing,” Cherry said.
“Coach [Charlie] Strong is just an amazing person. He keeps it real and he’s so genuine. Coach Strong tells it like it is. He’s just a wonderful man and we all know what a great coach he is. He knows what he’s looking for and that can come from different places. Look at me, I am a guy from Polk County in Florida and they want me. Then again, coach Strong knows better than anyone what kind of players come from Polk County.”
”Believe it or not Texas is my dream school,” Cherry said. “I have loved them ever since I was little. I am a huge fan of Vince Young and Colt McCoy. It’s those guys that had me loving Texas. I remember when they played in the national title game.”
”It’s the SEC and they are a team that’s really coming on,” Cherry said. “That has really stuck with me. They are on their way to doing some big things. I know that’s what coach Jones will be doing there in Knoxville."
”I am still committed to Tennessee. But I want to make all five of my visits. I just came from Texas. At the end of the day, I have to make the best decision for me. It’s a life decision and I have to make sure I go to the school that benefits me. I am the one that will be putting in all the work.”
”I will also visit Tennessee for sure,” Cherry said. “I am not sure about the fifth visit but I know I would like to take it. All I know at this point is that I am leaving the state of Florida and I will tell everyone where on February 5.”

We had listened to a lot of it on the radio and quit after it got out of hand. Me, my brother and a girl that was with us left the house we were at to go to another friend's house so he turned it back on to see if we could catch the end...you know...just to be sure. Sure enough, it was just before the last onside kick. We all just kind of stared at one another in disbelief. It was our local announcers and it sounded like a funeral. Then that last kickoff happened...we were sitting at a red light as the announcers voice screamed out the yard lines..."he's at the 40! 30! 20!" The car was rocking like crazy as all of us bounced around in the seat, yelling and screaming.
Man those JT teams in the 90's had some horses. Allen Wilson split those backs in the backfield and ran to the right and left...and no one could stop it. Felt like he had ten backs rotating through there.

Nice quote from LB Jordan Hicks:
"This coaching staff, they teach. They do a really good job of teaching. Everybody is really involved with everybody. Coach Bedford sits in on every single meeting, whether it's linebackers, DBs, defensive line. He's in every room. Coach Strong is the same way, walking in and out, constantly teaching constantly making comments. It's nice to have three different heads you can kind of pick and learn things from. Obviously, I believe my IQ is higher this year than it has been in a while."

A newer name to remember for 2016 is OL Jean Delance of North Mesquite (24/7):
“Yes, I have interest in them (Texas),” Delance told Horns247. “I hope they do in me. They’ve offered a couple of 2016 guys though.”
“So far I like their hunger down there in Austin to pull off a great accomplishment,” he said. “They are building something special down there everyone is saying."
“They’ll be a more complete team in due time, but there’s many recruits and commits looking to build something massive there,” he said. “I can’t wait to see what they’re about to do in the next two-to-three years.”

Quotes from JUCO OL Tristan Nickelson of Navarro College (OrangeBloods):
"In the summer, in July, I went to one of their camps. I kind of got to know all the coaches there, met coach (Joe) Wickline, some of the other coaches. They said the whole year, we'll be in touch, watch some game film. I had heard a little bit from them the past couple games," Nickelson said. "They invited me up for the game and I kind of of knew where it was going, but it's never a sure thing. I came in, met with the coaches, said hi. Coach Wickline brought me down to Coach Strong, that's when I got to talk to him, that's when they officially offered and I committed on the spot."
"Being from Texas, a Texas offer, that's the tops. You cant' get much better than that," Nickelson said. "I grew up in Texas watching Texas football. It's always been a dream of mine to play at a big-time school in Texas. It doesn't get any bigger than the University of Texas."
"(Wickline) thinks I'm a guy who can come in, pick things up really quickly, and play for him immediately. That's a big selling point," Nickelson said. "I know they're pretty shallow on the o-line. They have like six guys that were available in the West Virginia game. I think he just sees that I can come in and pick up the system really quickly and help them."
"I think probably I would say I'm not a flashy player, don't make all the highlight blocks. I'm just really disciplined, don't mess up a whole lot," Nickelson said. "I just go out there and get the job done. Pass blocking is probably my best, out of a two-point stance, since I'm so long and it's really hard to run the edge on me. I don't mind doing run blocking, getting down in a three-point stance. I'm just an overall player."
"I got to talk to (Zach Gentry) a little bit. He's really pumped up that I committed," Nickelson said. "He said 'It's nice to finally have a lineman that I can look up to.'"

Update on ATH Tim Irvin of Palmetto Bay, FL (OrangeBloods):
"It was great place," Irvin said. "When I went up there, I liked the facilities, it's a great environment, everyone around there stood out. It was a great place overall."
"I spent time with the coaches. They were telling me how I could make an impact to the Longhorns, how they really want me and how they can make me a better man on and off the field, how I can get a great education. It wasn't just about football."
"I'm really still open to every school. I don't have a top school. But Texas is a great program. I liked everything about it when I was there," Irvin said.
"It was crazy. Everybody was pumped up, everybody was excited," Irvin said. "It was crazy, an exciting win over a good West Virginia team. Crazy."

More quotes from LB DeMarco Boyd of Gilmer (OrangeBloods). He mentioned his brother, Kris, will be announcing his decision at the Army All-American Bowl in January and he should follow shortly after that.
"I liked the atmosphere of it. I could see myself playing for them," Boyd said. "They really opened my eyes up and it put them on top of my recruiting list. I didn't think it was going to be that fun, the atmosphere that good. I felt like I was at home."
"I'm really just waiting right now, since I'm only a junior. I'm waiting for more offers to come in, just sitting back, chilling, doing my thing with my grades," DeMarco said. "Wherever (Kris) goes, I'll look at the school, see how the grades are, and then make my decision."
"I just liked the coaches, the kids. They're all coming together," DeMarco said. "It's like a brotherhood with the players and coaches. It's like family there."

Per OrangeBloods, WR John Burt of Tallahassee, FL will be at Auburn this weekend for their game against A&M.
I'll never understand why a premier WR would even look at a predominantly running team. Or a premier RB look at a passing team.
But they do and will continue to do.
And despite how terrible Texas' offense has been, John Harris has the most receiving yardage in the state and more than anyone at Auburn.
His father wants him at Auburn, apparently.
Sounds so shady
And repetitive for Auburn.
So there's this 5 star WR Tyron Johnson that has made official visits to Tech and even though LSU has been recruiting him pretty hard to play in home state, I was liking Tech's chances of landing him.........
.....all of sudden Auburn literally comes out of nowhere to be at the top of this kid's list....

Hate it when they start recruiting a guy Texas is in on.
I remember Mack did an in-home visit with QB Nick Marshall and then his recruitment came to a halt when Auburn got involved. And that was when Auburn was transitioning from Chizik to Malzahn and had a 3-9 record.

Update on RB Soso Jamabo of Plano West (Scout):
"It was a great way to start off the playoffs," Jamabo explained. "We came out and did what we wanted to do. We played well as a starting core and I think we are going in confident to our next game."
"Brian Kelly (of Notre Dame) came out see me a couple of weeks ago, but coach Mora is my man (too), so I was real happy to see that," Jamabo said with a big smile. "Coach Mora, an NFL coach now the coach at UCLA it is awesome to have a guy like that come out and watch me play."
"I really got to see what the whole Westwood experience (on the official visit to UCLA) like you would expect, so it was a whole awesome day and an awesome experience for me," Jamabo informed.
"Although they took an 'L' it was still a great weekend. It showed a little bit more that they took and 'L' and still showed me a great time. They took and said we are going to come back string and still bounce back."
"I definitely want to try and get out to Texas," Jamabo explained. "They are definitely on the map again."
"It definitely evened out," Jamabo stated. "It was both great official visits and I had a great time on both, so it has definitely evened back out."

Taylor "see me in the bathroom" Hamm is saying that Malik Jefferson to aggy is all but done.
My biggest problem with Hamm is his "sources". It is well known that his "high level" sources are A&M commitments. His biggest "nugget" (his own words) was a group chat Jefferson had with WR Christian Kirk and QB Kyler Murray, that was very pro-A&M. Of course Jefferson won't say a bad thing about A&M to those two, he has too much respect for the program and he is too level headed to talk smack at a program.
I remain optimistic on this one, especially if Texas gets the last visit.

The state's top 2015 prospect took an official visit to Texas A&M over the weekend and one of Orangebloods' top insiders (Esoteric2112) on his recruitment posted the following last night on page three of the following thread. Considering the importance of Jefferson's recruitment, I thought I would showcase Esoteric2112's post in this column because so many would miss it if I didn't.
Therefore, here's a look at what Esoteric2112 had to say following Jefferson's visit this weekend:
"What he said I could share. Okay so A&M showed him a good time. He got to catch up with some guys and meet a few new ones. He was very impressed with their facilities (best part of the trip). He spent most of his time (except game time) with Sumlin which made him feel special. He didn't hang with Snyder very much. He said they have a lot of energy and have a good time during their warm ups and walk through. The campus was..... Nice. Their academic support wasn't as good as LSU. He said the feeling at the game was good in the first half (but not in the same universe as Texas/OU or LSU) but the crowd just disintegrated sometime in the 3rd quarter. He is very, very worried about how they looked on defense. Finally he was concerned that the Aggie players seemed not very troubled by losing. More accepting of it.
My takeaway is he loved their facilities. His relationship with Coach Sumlin is still very strong. But he has huge worries about the state and future of the defense. He is also troubled that the Aggies seem to be accepting of losses like this. It doesn't affect them.
He hasn't seen the Texas game yet. That is on the agenda for tomorrow if he can fit it in between film study.
omorrow if he can fit it in between film study.
I think LSU has made up ground at the expense of A&M. This was A&M's chance to lock him down and they couldn't do it.
The facilities and his relationship with Sumlin (and the fact that Sumlin is as good of a snake oil salesman you will find) are the main things keeping A&M in this thing. The tide has turned from the aftermath of the firing of Diaz.
Below are my thoughts culled together from talking to him, not direct quotes:
LSU has great academic support, a history of success, putting guys in the NFL, and great defense. But distance and the fact he has no relationship with Miles and finds him a little eccentric are the drawbacks. LSU also had a game day experience that was like sitting in an electric chair (I reminded him electric chairs are deadly).
A&M has the best facilities and Sumlin is like a best friend to him. Plus someone close in his life (but not family close) being a huge Aggie. Finally they were playing from the lead, got a bump with the Auburn win, and Sumlin is a hell of a salesman (selling come here, play early, bring a couple of friends and with the young talent we have on offense we will make a run next year).
Texas has Coach Strong's reputation for defense, his ability to put players high in the draft, and his domination of some high powered BigXII offenses. Texas has the best game day experiences and the best educational opportunities. But Strong is selling come here, work hard, have a chance to play early, and be part of building a legacy. He and his family love Strong and he is used to coaches in the Strong mold. Texas facilities aren't on the level and they don't have the academic support LSU does. Texas has no significant win, and the offense looks very
suspect sometimes and doesn't seem to have the talent that A&M does.
So there you have it. Texas continues to gain steam. LSU is coming on hard, and Aggie is fading. My feeling is that it is no longer a tossup.
If I had to bet $10,000 today, I would say Texas.
If Texas beats TCU (no matter how) or Texas gets him on campus, I get the feeling it is all over.
Tonight 50/30/20 Texas/A&M/LSU."

I don't think Texas can. Texas will take a class of 28-30 (approximately), and right now they sit at 18. So they have room for 10-12 more players. They will take at least one more OL, Brandon Hodges is a good guess even though Alabama has picked up their interest in him. Notre Dame commit OT Jerry Tillery is another guy that staff has kept contact with. Ryan Newsome (or another slot guy) and potentially another outside guy (D'erren Wilson, A.D. Miller etc.). Two seems to be the number when you talk about TE's. Another RB (Brossette, Guice or Warren). The staff have been all over QB Matthew Merrick, and has offered him a spot as a walk-on. He could get an offer closer to NSD if the staff wants another guy.
Offense
QB - 1 (maybe)
RB - 1
WR - 2
TE - 2
OL - 1
Texas currently has 3 DL commitments (1 DT, 2 DE's) and would probably take a DT or two more alongside a third DE. Two LB commitments (Hager could spin down to DE), and Texas is probably looking to add two more (Malik and an ILB). If Texas misses out on Malik, things could get interesting. There are currently two safeties committed and Texas is probably looking to add 2-3 CB's and a safety more.
DL - 3 (2 DT's, 1 DE)
LB (1 ILB, 1 ILB)
DB (3 CB's, 1 S)
Thats 15, 16 if you count another QB, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this shapes up. As of now, LB Malik Jefferson, OL Connor Williams and OL Connor Garrett are all early enrollees and could count towards last years class. I'm not entirely sure about S Jamile Johnson, but I think he is December grad as well.

Unbelievable. You'd be all but handed the starting safety spot as a true freshman, getting coached by some of the best defensive minds in the country at a program nicknamed DBU ... and you'd throw that away.
I still maintain that Elliott and some others will be locked up after Thanksgiving. Hopefully, we'll have a good showing against TCU, get a bunch of recruits on campus in early December and get Malik's commitment a couple of weeks later. That should be all the momentum we need.

He wasn't happy that the coaches wouldn't let him schedule an official visit when all of the Florida boys came in, but Strong and staff had their reasons. He may still feel slighted and less important because of it, but hopefully he'll realize it was a strategic move. The staff wants him, Omenihu and a few others to be on campus when they host big names like Malik. Hopefully everything will get cleared up in the near future. And, yes, a win or a great showing on Thanksgiving would be huge.

To be specific, one of the mods said "I get the feeling he'd flip" based on things said. Apparently one big issue is he was upset Texas staff made him change his official visit date. This has upset some other recruits too (like Burt) as no other staffs try to dictate so hard when guys take officials.
For those that don't know, the staff has been pushing for end of season officials, such as the big weekend December 5th. This allows staff to spend more time with recruits one on one instead of having to focus on game planning. Note almost no other staffs dictate officials like Texas. For example, Malik Jefferson supposedly spent most of his visit to Ags with Sumlin a huge chunk of the time even though staff had to worry about upcoming Mizzou game.

It's a tough call on how to approach it because I know Charlie is doing it to spend more time with recruits and their families, and it's difficult to do that on a game day. But part of me thinks you need to let these kids visit whenever they want and not turn them away. I don't know what the answer is because there will always be certain prospects like Elliott who need to be recruited as if they're uncommitted.

Killing that potential matchup isn't really funny. Actually it's quite sad. You'd think the team and conference that claims superiority would want to prove it on the field. Sad that the decision is about politics and marketing and not backing up the talk. I get A&M (and Texas) would have a lot to lose but that is what makes it compelling. The SEC is the top conference according to just about everybody so don't know why they would be concerned to be manipulating bowl matchups. One game will certainly not impact that perception.

LB Cecil Cherry sounds like a commit in this latest Scout article:
"Coach [Charlie] Strong is an awesome man. He shows you what you have to do to start and plus he's the head coach and linebacker guy. He cares about his players not just on the field but off. He's a man of his word, and he understands the type of player I am coming from Florida and a little town called Frostproof. All I have seen my whole life is orange trees, and I am trying to make it out of here. Plus, he's a defensive minded coach and he loves the physical linebackers like me, like Ray Lewis."
"I have a chance to put the Cherry family name on the map. I am going to be the first to do it. Everyone might hate me for the move but as long as God and my dad and mom and family support me here I'm good. I am straight because I am going to play ball and big time players make big time plays."
"Hook'em. They stand No 1 for me. My game is physical, and I try to end career's that's what my daddy taught me since little league. The Texas staff and coach Strong I believe want killers like me and ball players. That's why he came to Florida to get some players, but people have to understand he's a black head coach that's the head coach for the Longhorns. He is going to turn that program around, and he did it everywhere he's been. It's no different, everyone knows what he's going to do and that's why people are scared of a player like me because I can make a big impact. Every where coach Strong has been the defense is strong and sets you up for the league not just to win a national championship. He doesn't just care about football he cares about your school work. He said you making plays speaks for itself, and I need players like you. I am going to make a big impact for my uncle Bobby Cherry, my dad, my mom and family and the people who supported me and for my little city of Frostproof, God and the world. They are number one and Hook'em."

I guess they'll tip toe around games for favorable match ups just so they can sell the perception of dominance. Hope recruits realize the scary shit they're doing.

Malcom Brown has been named one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski award. Brown is the third Nagurski finalist in school history, joining Derrick Johnson (2004) and Brian Orakpo (2008), both of whom won the award. The 2014 winner will be announced Dec. 8.
The other finalists are Senquez Golson (DB, Ole Miss), Gerod Holliman (S, Louisville), Landon Collins (S, Alabama) and Scooby Wright (LB, Arizona).

Update on 2016 RB Kameron Martin of Port Arthur Memorial (Scout):
“I just told [Coach Robinson] that I feel like they were playing around,” Martin said.
“He told me they weren’t playing around. He started laughing. I told him I was still committed to Baylor and he said, ‘We gonna get you. We gonna get you,’ and stuff like that. He was confident. He said he wasn’t going to stop recruiting me and that he was going to recruit me until the end.”
“Until I get that (Texas) offer, I’m staying solid to Baylor,” he said. “When Texas does offer me, I don’t know, things could change. I am going to keep my options open. But I’m still committed to Baylor though.”
“Yeah if Texas would have offered me at a young age I would have been committed to them,” he said. “They were my childhood favorite.”

Speaking of LB Malik Jefferson, he spoke with Inside Texas over lunch and they feel A&M has a slight lead currently even though he didn't come out and say it. Good news is they don't think it's anything insurmountable and he's adamant he will visit Texas before making a decision. It's basically come down to Strong beating Sumlin straight up.

Texas fans thinks this is Hamm, Hamm says "No clue (what's it's about). I haven't talked to him. No need to. He's not going to give anything up.". Hamm was quick to throw it at Chip Brown, saying that "Coincidentally after Chip Brown posted an interview with him?".
The only other "interviews" I can think about is one he did with William Wilkerson of HornsDigest on tuesday/wednesday. But that article doesn't have any quotes from him. Malik did tell Wilkerson his top 5, but Wilkerson would say anything else outside that Texas was in it. Not anything Malik can be upset about. It could be about a long update by a poster on Orangebloods, who apparently is a coach/teacher at Poteet HS, that's been posted on many Texas boards.
EDIT: Floss covered it in one line :lol

Being behind is all on Strong, doesn't even seem like he is trying hard enough. Kuddos to Sumlin if he pulls this one, specially with the atrocity of a defense that he fields on a weekly basis. "He (Coach Wickline) just tells me it's the perfect place to be, coming in as a JUCO guy, filling that void," Hodges said. "Their line is going to be young, they've got someone leaving, he wants me be that guy and start for them."
"Texas has always been one of my favorite schools," Hodges said. "When I think of Texas, they're always at the top. I think of Vince Young, all those guys. I grew up in Mississippi but grew up watching Texas football."
"You have to have great coaching wherever you go," said Hodges, who also said distance will not factor into his decision. "I'm just looking at coaching, who is going to take time out to coach, who is going to take the time out to help me get my education."

The selfish person in me hopes that keeps him around for another year at Texas (hoping to move up into the top 15). However, having to support a family changes all that. I take an ass beating, but we were fucked on lots of critical calls. Texas was never winning this game.

Swoopes isn't very good and I see nothing in him that suggest that he'll ever be anything better. If we had a decent QB to go along with our solid defense, we would be damn good team.

Defense will get worse next year with loss of key players. Offense will depend on QB.
Strong has 3 years to find a quarterback or he'll be Muschamp 2.0.

Strong will be fine. Imagine if Mack had this team this year....

Mack would have won more because he wouldn't have kicked anyone off and he get most out of guys by giving them orange slices at the end of every game.

Diggs played one on the worst games I've seen from him. The whole team shat the bad, but I never thought I'd see that from Diggs.

We knew it was coming eventually. I wonder will it effect any defensive recruits decision.

I don't understand...if I was a 5 star QB looking to be the big man on campus I would be first in line for Texas. Maybe I'm delusional who knows.

Texas needs to show that an average or bit above-average QB can excel in this offense and that the O-Line can protect him. 5-Star QB's want to go where there is a track record of success. I'd be understandably wary of going where a QB has recently "retired" from football due to concussions.

Longhorns likely to head to Texas Bowl, per 24/7. Opponent will be either Aggy or Arky.

A pretty good, but short, spotlight video on WR John Burt. Nothing on his recruitment, but he sounds like a smart kid and like a good leader.

The way he holds the ball, is that some sort of secret "Hook 'Em" or is it just a way that WR's hold the balls now a days to show how strong their fingers are?
