One of the posters on the Texas Rivals free board claims to be a coach at Reggie's high school. He was telling the board that Coach Strong came to his high school and he (the poster) was really impressed with him.

If the guy is who he says he is, then it could be a factor in why Reggie is waiting for this offer to come back.

It was something about the coaching staff letting it be known that they will be keeping a close eye on how Darrion is doing at Kilgore JC.
He would be eligible to transfer to a 4yr school next summer.

This staff seems to be going after kids with high upside (3 star players) instead of relying on just star ratings. Not to say they are not going after elite talent, but the confidence of being able to take on kids who need to be coached up is already head and shoulders over the brown regime.

Per OrangeBloods, QB Michael Brewer of Texas Tech has filed an appeal on the restrictions of his transfer. He should know the result by the end of today. I think it gets complicated if a graduate transfer wants to stay in conference, and Tech doesn't want to see him at UT or TCU.

I'll post anything I see.

Ah.

*A month later, after the bowl game, Brewer followed suit. He plans to stay at Texas Tech and earn his degree during the spring semester and transfer. He will be eligible to play immediately as long as he enrolls at a university that offers a graduate program that Texas Tech does not, per NCAA rules.

Texas is going to need a really good season to kick start it in the minds of the high school kids.

The aggie faithful have been saying this for a while, but to hear it from a kid committed to you is pretty strong. Good luck to Coach Strong, he is going to need it.

But it goes to show, that even big time programs need to keep winning or they become stale in the minds of high school kids.

Read that Brewer is being blocked from every Big 12 and CUSA Texas team, which includes UTSA. Hope Kliff eases up and allows him to play in CUSA. I think we'd have a legit shot at landing him tbh.

Update on 2016 QB Josh White of Marietta, GA who will be in town this weekend for the first Junior Day (OrangeBloods):

"I love Texas. I grew up loving Texas. I was a big Vince Young fan," White said. "I feel really comfortable there with all the coaches. I'm looking forward to meeting them, but the main thing is meeting coach Strong. Ever since he was at Louisville, what he did with Teddy Bridgewater, I could see myself in that role. That's going to be a highlight for me. I've heard he's a great guy, a great coach."

"I just want to see what it would be like to be a part of the Texas family and actually get comfortable in Austin. I've hearing great things about it. A lot of people in Atlanta are really big Texas fans. I hear it's a really great city, with great weather."

"I've talked to coach Koenning. He said he doesn't have a lot to do with offering. I haven't even played a snap for varsity yet. Mississippi State did take a chance on me so they're my number one," White said. "If Texas took a chance on me, that would be the biggest thing in my recruitment."

"I competed with the seniors. The senior that they offered from that camp, I competed with and held my own with him," White said. "I was the most consistent. Of course I had some bad balls, but they saw my potential, my size, my athleticism. In the 7-on-7, I made some good throws. I was throwing against some Mississippi State commits and made some good throws."

"I run when I have to. But I would say my best characteristic, if not my leadership, would be my distribution," White said. "If it was basketball, I'd be a point guard. I like to get the ball into my athletes' hands and let them make plays."

"I'm so excited for this trip, I can't even explain. Just to be able to have opportunity to go to Texas is a blessing. I have a lot of family in Houston, so they might be able to come see me," White said. "If I ever go there, my grandmother could come see me play, so that would be huge for me. My mom's whole side of the family lives in Houston. And meeting coach Strong, as a man, that's a great accomplishment in my eyes. That will be a big moment in my recruitment."

"From the time I got to Austin on Saturday, Coach (Shawn) Watson and I were talking ball," Wittek said. "A lot of the concepts they are talking about, I ran at Mater Dei (high school)."

"So I already feel comfortable."

"He (Charlie Strong) looks you in the eye, and you know he's no nonsense. And I like that," Wittek said.

"You can tell the players really get along, and you can tell they respect Coach Strong," Wittek said.

"I was impressed."

Is it that suprising? Briles has put Baylor on the map while Mack has been busy moving Texas off of it. A high school kid is only going to look back a couple of seasons when they give an opinion like that.

Sort of surprising, yes.

Fair point...Waco is indeed a shithole...but it's not like Podunkville, Alabama has a ton of appeal either and Saban has no problem pulling a major haul every year. Atmosphere does help, but it's not that important. If it was then Miami wouldn't be losing guys like Teddy Bridgewater to Louisville.

As close as Austin is to Waco and in the same state... Nowhere else to go in Alabama like Austin. Tradition also plays a role. Columbus, Ohio. I don't see Baylor becoming UT. It's bigger than one coach over time. Strong has a huge advantage getting kids to Austin. It will kick in. Miami is still trying to undo huge damage done by violations and the Thug U image.

I didn't think of this until you said it, but the proximity point actually helps Baylor as well. If they like Baylor as a school but like Austin as a town, it's just a short trip down 35 whenever they want to go hang out down there.

Inside Texas reporting, for a lack of a better phrase, the cream is starting to rise to the top when it comes to which players are going to be difference-makers for the team moving forward. No names were mentioned in this specific report, but apparently certain players have already been told they'll need to find a soft landing spot elsewhere before next season. WR Bryant Jackson and LB Aaron Benson were talked about in a separate post a while back as guys who may not make it to spring training.

Speaking of attrition, I was looking at the roster the other day and separated the scholarship players from the walk-ons. If you factor in the 2014 class, I have a count of 93 scholarship players for the fall roster. Those numbers include OL Garrett Greenlea, DS Nate Boyer and K Nick Rose. The latter two both received scholarships last year as walk-ons, but I'm not sure of their status for 2014. Greenlea took a medical redshirt last year and was basically a student assistant. I expect that to continue where he won't count against the numbers, or he'll transfer out for a fresh start since he hasn't contributed since he arrived. There are 24 seniors who will be leaving no matter what (LB Jordan Hicks is 25 depending on a medical redshirt) and about 8 to 12 underclassmen who are attrition candidates. Needless to say the 2015 class will have a lot of room; 25+ if Strong feels he needs it.

I like McKinney as well. I have him as a part of this class in my own personal spreadsheet with recruiting notes and other stuff regarding Texas recruiting. That South Oak Cliff defense is loaded. They have like 3 Div-1 DL in the class of '15 and an entire secondary of future Div-1 players. '16 DE Marvin Terry and '16 CB "Juice" Parker are players to keep an eye on.

Deshon Elliott from Rockwall-Heath has recently overtaken McKinney as my favorite in-state S. Tremendous hitter and a guy I believe that DC Vance Bedford have been in contact with Elliott recently.

Quotes from Stevenson, from 24/7.

"Nick Saban said that he really wanted to talk to me. He's been interested in me and said that I'm a 5-star running back. Coach Saban said it's a blessing to really get to know a person like me and the opportunity and chance to get to recruit a guy with my skills. He said I'm one of the top running backs in the country," detailed Stevenson.

"He said if I went there, I'd have the opportunity to enhance my skills at the next level. He said that I remind him of Kenyan Drake and Mark Ingram."

"I was at a loss for words. They said I can visit on March 1, for a spring practice, or in June. I'll most likely go to all three. Alabama is a great opportunity. It's a blessing and God has his ways."

"It's still great with them. I'm still trying to get a feel and understanding for Coach Strong and the new staff."

"I have six offers and am getting interest from Ohio State and Oregon. My top four is Texas, Oregon, Ohio State, and Alabama."

Bama's MO is throwing out offers like candy and getting big-time recruits to their camps for evaluation. I don't know if this includes the recent offer to Stevenson, but Bama has offered five RBs this week alone. Only time will tell how serious they are about him.

Not a thing. OrangeBloods mentioned the staff is currently doing evaluations of the 2015 Texas kids position by position, so that's why we're seeing so many out-of-state offers going out right now. The new staff is familiar with those guys from their old gigs, but no so much the Texas kids. It still doesn't explain why RB Tristian Houston is likely going to be offered before Jones, though. Supposedly Jones has said that he'd probably change his plans and visit UT within the next two weeks as long as they extend a formal offer.

Need to give him the hard sell while he doesn't have an A&M offer.

OrangeBloods says he talked to Strong for over an hour last night.

Interesting question you bring up I thought of Justin when I seen Vincents name but I completely overlooked the Whitehouse connection and just thought it was a coincidence in last names. Yes apparently he is the older brother of Justin and I'm confused at to why he is listed everywhere I have found to be out of the class of 2014 but in the hudl video he's listed in the class of 2015. Anyone have any insight on this?

I was looking back on previous Junior Days recently and figured I'd post this before anyone gets down about a lack of early commitments this weekend. Granted these were Mack's evaluations and we all know he wasn't great at that, but look at all of the Junior Day commitments from 2011 and how it's worked out for Texas...ugh. Probably a good thing if you don't wrap up half your class in February:

QB, David Ash, Belton
RB, Joe Bergeron, North Mesquite
WR, Miles Onyegbule, Arlington
WR, Jaxon Shipley, Brownwood
TE, MJ McFarland, El Paso El Dorado
OL, Josh Cochran, Hallsville
OL, Taylor Doyle, Austin Lake Travis <------ offered with a broken leg
OL, Marcus Hutchins, DeSoto
DT, Desmond Jackson, Spring Westfield
LB, Chet Moss, Cedar Park
CB, Leroy Scott, South Houston
S, Sheroid Evans, Fort Bend Dulles
S, Mykkele Thompson, San Antonio Stevens

There's your guy, Bloeddyr10. I hope Prentice McKinney is there, too, like the Statesman said.

Yeah, I saw that. I saw an interview with him last night from Taylor Hamm, and he said he expected Texas to offer this saturday. He likes Oklahoma State, A&M and Baylor in that order. Wonder how much that changes if Texas offers. He also said that he has no intentions of playing LB. He only wants to play S.

Read an article where he said OL Trevor Elbert is his best friend and he's waiting to see how A&M's safety position works out. They already have Dunning, Pryor and will continue to pursue S Deionte Thompson. He didn't sound comfortable with that situation, but Sumlin can sell water to a drowning man right now so we'll see how that goes. Said he wants to make a decision around the time spring ball ends.

I believe we read the same article. I don't know why I called it an interview. With Dunning (most likely a LB at the next level), Pryor and Thompson committed elsewhere, I would actually be perfectly fine with Texas ending up with McKinney and Elliott. Two guys with tremendous amount of upside.

I actually thought he was more of a CB. But it looks like he's playing quiet a bit as a S as well. Definitely impressing tape! I really like that Strong is targeting guys with a lot of raw upside. He really trust his coaches to develop. I like that confidence!

Floss, I saw somewhere that OB reported that there is a buzz about Strong sending a message through the state this weekend. Any idea?

That post on Shaggy was made at midnight, so I'm guessing it was a tweet from OBs to get people to read their Junior Day breakdown. There was nothing in that report that referenced Strong doing something out of the ordinary. In fact, they mentioned the staff wouldn't be pushing hard for commitments as they'll be focusing on getting to know a lot of the in-state kids. Easy to forget this is the first time most of the prospects will be meeting the new Texas staff, including Strong.
