Interested to see if he keeps it shut down or opens things up if the Ags have a bad season. Still this move is probably a direct result of them getting Murray.

disagree. i think the way the aggie coaches are selling it to the recruits is that the upcoming season is the first part of the process and that these recruits have a chance to be a part of the next few years. now, a horrible season may be different and obviously the departure of a coach or some other key players may change that but mack seems to be swayed by the fact that he has a chance to be a part of 2 back to back stellar classes (on paper anyway).

Disappointing that he doesn't want to give Strong a chance for some reason.

Dylan Moses' father just said over at 24/7 that Antoine would ride with him and Dylan to the camp. It would be somewhat awesome if RB Nick Brossette decided to tag a long.

Don't be too quick with that one, I don't see a 5'10 - 5'11 kid making it as a QB so he might want to keep his DB skills up.

No. 11 class and our lowest-rated recruit has offers from everyone — after Strong had already identified him and locked him up. There's a ways to go, sure, but I'm not sure how anyone who has been paying attention could say Strong isn't doing well.
He's not doing horrible... but look at who is slipping through our fingers to Aggie. Can't argue that their killin' it these days. A lot of them are players we would normally get in Mack's heyday. That said, we will be better even with lesser players than we were under Mack the last few years, but that's not saying too much.

The 2014 freshman class still had guys up for grabs (although he had a late start of course on recruiting) that we lost from the state of Texas.

I'm very happy with how Texas is doing right now in recruiting.
Texas has the QB they wanted and the oline recruits are some of the best in the country. Texas is in on a lot of fantastic talent out of state and in-state. I'm confident Texas will end up somewhere between 5 and 10 in this recruiting class.
A big bonus is that the upcoming recruiting class will be mostly red-shirted as should this class. I like that our coaching staff excels at developing talent, it should bode well for Texas in the future.

Seriously, just fucking stop. What the fuck is supposed to do...pull a bunch of five star players out of his ass after six months of being in a state where none of the HS coaches/players even know him? You act like it's some sort of even playing field with Sumlin. Strong has a lot of catching up to do and that can't happen between January and now.

If he is guilty, he is going to do some big boy time, and to be honest, I hope he can turn things around. Life as he knew it is over
, any hopes and dreams he had are gone. He is now just another black statistic. I feel really bad for his family who were probably extremely proud of him for going to college to get away from a life like this.

Update on OL Garrett Thomas of Many, La.
Offensive line coach Joe Wickline is in search of two more players up front he can add in this year’s class. One of the top tackle prospects in the country made his way to Austin yesterday to spend time with not only Joe Wickline but head coach Charlie Strong.
Garrett Thomas (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=6387555) checks in at 6-foot-6, 310-pounds from Many (LA) with offers from Auburn (http://auburn.scout.com/), Ole Miss (http://mississippi.scout.com/),Oklahoma (http://oklahoma.scout.com/) and Texas (http://texas.scout.com/) to name a few. This past weekend Thomas took his girlfriend, his sister, his sisters boyfriend and his mother to visit with the Texas coaching staff.
”I really enjoyed it,” Garrett Thomas said. “It ended up being a pretty good day. We left pretty early to get up there and meet all of the coaches and had a big introduction with all of them. Coach Wickline was with us just about all day on the tour and saw all of the facilities, weight room and everything. The tour of the school and stadium was real good. It was just a real good day.”
Coach Wickline would like to land two more players on the offensive line and Thomas is one of them.
”Coach Wickline told me he was really impressed with me,” Thomas said. “He likes me at offensive tackle but told me if he needed me to play inside I could play guard. I really enjoyed visiting with him. We talked a lot about schemes and his philosophy and he really impressed me and is a very personable guy.”
As nicely as things went for Thomas, they were equally as impressive for his mother.
”We talked with coach Strong for a while,” Thomas said. “He really impressed us and he told me academics would always be first at Texas. He told me I would be a great fit because I am going to major in petroleum engineering and Texas has all the resources to help me get through it. My mom was really impressed. Charlie Strong (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7485862) said that if football and classes interfered with each other that the class would come first and that was the first time my mom has ever heard that.”
Keep an eye on Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Texas for Garrett Thomas.

Update on OL Madison Akamnonu of Arlington, Tx.
The No. 21 ranked offensive tackle in the country took a one-day unofficial visit to the University of Texas on Friday. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Madison Akamnonu checks in from Arlington (TX) Bowie high school and liked what he and his family heard in Austin.
Scout.com recently moved Madison Akamnonu (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=6579002) to the elite four-star status. Akamnonu and his family visited Austin this weekend and they were thoroughly impressed with the message.
”My mom, dad and little brother,” Madison Akamnonu responded when asked who made the unofficial visit with him earlier today.
Offensive line coach Joe Wickline has made the four-star offensive tackle a top priority and he relayed that message again today in person.
”He talked to me about playing left tackle,” Akamnonu said. “He showed me a few offensive line tips and the run and pass blocking. I felt comfortable around him, which was a bonus. Speaking with coach [Charlie] Strong and the coaching staff was a big part also. Me and my family really liked him and he seemed fun and serious when the time called for it.”

I did a little research on the "surprise visitor" and came back to something I saw yesterday. Dylan Moses is the leader of a group that calls itself for 17DreamTeam. It is a bunch of the (early) top rated players in the country for the 2017 class that talks about going to the same college. Apparently the surprise visitor is DeAngelo Gibbs, who is a member of this group. Outside of Dylan Moses the groups consists of:

Really, though, I've never seen anyone in the media praise someone for shutting the media out. It's in their interest to bitch and moan when a player won't speak to the press or when coaches tell them to GTFO. All the kids have to do is tweet or instagram something and everyone will know they were there — they don't need the media's help.

by the way, denley from steele looked great at the cibolo steel spring game. he is very shifty and explodes into the backfield. considering how the defense dominated the game i was very impressed with denley's performance. on the defensive side mark jackson created havoc in the backfield but LB marquee allison dominated. he is very quick and just covers the field so well. also, it appears that the steele/desoto game will be aired on ESPN so that will be a good chance to check out not only the steele players but also several desoto prospects.

He's had several blunders while monitoring degree requirements and GPAs over the years. It didn't help that Mack rarely met with him.
His department is the one responsible for OL Desmond Harrison's transfer fiasco with the online credit from BYU.
And I don't know if 100% true, but I have read that the baseball team hasn't used him for a long time now.

I won't comment on how good this kid is or what position he will play in college, but my first thought when I look at the picture of Adrian Ealy is this kid has an extremely long neck. To me this means that if he really is 6'5 then his actual body type is closer to a kid about 6'3. If he is really 6'3 then his body is closer to a guy with a 6'1 body. Again, it's just a observation based on the fact that height can be overrated if it's the wrong kind of height. If a guy gets to 6'5 because he has a freakish long neck or big ass head to me means he has the body of a shorter guy, and might not be able to put on the right amount of muscle.

A few quotes from a couple of 2016 QB's, from 24/7.
Seth Green of East Ridge (Minn.) is the 182nd ranked prospect overall and 6th ranked DT-QB in the country. He will camp at Texas on Monday, June 9th.
"I keep a close relationship with all those coaches (from the schools that have offered)," Green said. "It's pretty even."
"It's (Texas) a football school", Green said. "A football school in a football state. That would always be wonderful to play at."

Messiah deWeaver of Trotwood-Madison (Oh.) is the 244th ranked prospect overall and 9th ranked PP-QB in the country.
"I talk to them mostly every week," deWeaver said of the current relationship. "They're interested in me from when they offered at Louisville. I like that coaching staff. I'm really comfortable around them."
"I just know a lot about the staff (at Texas)," he said.

I can't get worked up over recruiting at this point. yes the ags are beating us soundly right now, but it's nothing that can't be fixed with a little success on the field.
I'm confident the Ags will be at around .500 for the year next season, if that happens and Texas does well you can bet we will win a few battles to close out 2015 recruiting.
Also keep in mind that it is looking like 2016 is the year Charlie is really working on. I'm hoping we can close out with keeping the kids we have committed and get a few commits on the defensive side and we will be just fine.

Update on 2016 TE Kaden Smith of Flower Mound, Tx.
One of the top tight end prospects in the class of 2016 had a chance to visit the University of Texas for the second time and came away impressed. Kaden Smith checks in at 6-foot-5, 235-pound from Flower Mound (TX) Marcus high school.
Head coach Charlie Strong (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7485862) and the rest of the Texas (http://texas.scout.com/) coaching staff are looking at numerous top tier prospects for not only 2015 but 2016 as well. They found one in tight end Kaden Smith (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7127317). He has offers from Texas,Texas A&M (http://tamu.scout.com/), Tennessee (http://tennessee.scout.com/), Stanford (http://stanford.scout.com/),Oklahoma (http://oklahoma.scout.com/) and Ole Miss (http://mississippi.scout.com/) to name a few. Smith was able to visit Texas for the second time.
”My dad and I drove down and reached Austin about four,” Kaden Smith said. “We went to see the coaches and I met coach Strong. I ended up only doing the first half of the camp and talked about academics the second half.”
Even though Charlie Strong is in his first year as the Texas head coach he is making great strides with some of the states top talent.
”It was great and cool seeing the coaches again,” Smith said. “They stand near the top. I had a nice talk with coach Strong yesterday. I love the staff and they remind me of my high school coaches, people I can enjoy being around. The weight room is real impressive and so is the strength coach.”

Update on 2016 DB Jared Mayden of Sachse, Tx.
Head coach Charlie Strong and company have been quick to identify some of the top talent in the class of 2016. One such player is 6-foot-, 190-pound corner Jared Mayden from Sachse (TX)
Jared Mayden (http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7320764) has been a major priority of head coach Charlie Strong (http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7485862)and defensive backs coach Chris Vaughn (http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7814444) since they arrived in Austin. The four-star corner had a chance to visit earlier today and work out for the coaching staff.
”I arrived in Austin at about 7:50 with my mom and my little brother,” Jared Mayden said. “As soon as I walked into registration coach [Chris] Vaughn was right at the door. They were telling me how excited they were to work with me. Coach is an overall cool dude with a lot of knowledge about the game. Charlie Strong is really putting Texas (http://texas.scout.com/) together nice.”
Mayden has had the eye of Texas on him since Charlie Strong and company arrived. He will be one of the most heavily recruited players regardless of position for Texas in the 2016 class.

Update on 2016 DE Andrew Fitzgerald of Flower Mound, Tx.
Head coach Charlie Strong and the rest of the Texas coaching staff will see over 300 high school football players over the next several days and one of them is 2016 defensive end Andrew Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald will workout on Sunday for the Texas coaches but was able to enjoy Texas earlier today.
Andrew Fitzgerald (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7802419) is a 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end from Flower Mound (TX) Marcus high school. Fitzgerald arrived in Austin earlier today to check out the Longhorns.
”I went with my mom and I can already tell the coaching staff would be some great guys to work with,” Andrew Fitzgerald said. “I loved the facilities and was impressed with the stadium. Coach Strong seemed like a good coach and had the right mindset. Where does Texas stand on offering the standout defensive end? It could come down to a few hours on Sunday. Fitzgerald will have the eyes of the staff on him tomorrow.

Two notes of interest from OrangeBloods last night:
-2016 RB Trevor Speights of McAllen Memorial was not offered yesterday, but Coach Bedford took the time to walk the family to their car and kept talking to them after that. He's definitely an offer candidate at his position.
-a source told them DE Dorance Armstrong of Galena Park North Shore was one of the best prospects in attendance and to keep a "close eye" on him going forward. He did not receive an offer but was given a lot of attention by the coaching staff.

Update on WR target Christian Wallace of Sealy, Tx.
(Scout-Horns Digest)
Four-star safety Christian Wallace has landed another huge offer. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety from Sealy (TX) was extended a verbal offer from the University of Texas earlier today.
Christian Wallace (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7036785) is a four-star safety prospect from the class of 2016. The thought of staying close to home and attending the University of Texas (http://texas.scout.com/) has crossed his mind. That thought became more of a reality as he was extended a verbal offer from the Texas coaching staff.
”They offered,” Christian Wallace said. “My brother-in-law came with me and the campus is huge. I like it a lot and the stadium I have no words for. They (Texas coaches) were just asking were I wanted to go to college and I liked them all. Coach [Charlie] Strong seems like a pretty cool guy overall.”
Texas joins TCU (http://tcu.scout.com/), Oregon State (http://oregonstate.scout.com/) andHouston (http://houston.scout.com/) as teams who have all extended a verbal offer to the standout safety from Sealy high school.

Texas is fighting a tough battle right now with a handful of their biggest targets (Warren, Newsome, Townsend, Hill, etc.). Several of them have UT as their #1, but they want to enjoy the process and/or wait to see what Strong can do in the fall before deciding. UT may be left with their D in their hand on certain prospects if their season doesn't go well.

“I’ve read that he’s told people that they’re in his top four or five or whatever,” said one source. “He sort of backed off the stance that they’re his top two, but that’s not the case. It will be one of those two schools (Oklahoma or Texas) for sure.”
“I think it is close,” said the other source. “Real close. I think he goes back and forth each day, but I think that Texas has a slight, slight edge. Coach (Joe) Wickline has been locking him up through and he has noticed the attention he’s received from there. I just know that Texas is sitting in a good spot with him based on a few conversations. I think they’ll end up getting him."

Update on 2016 QB Shea Patterson of Shreveport, LA after the Texas QB camp (24/7):
“I mean it’s great to be back. It was cool meeting Coach (Shawn) Watson and Coach (Charlie Strong). They are great guys. I had a lot of fun out here. It was a great camp,” Patterson said.

“I have a lot of family in South Texas so I look forward to playing in front of them some day."
“I’ve been talking to Coach Watson a lot lately so I think I’m getting close to an offer,” he said.
“I got here yesterday and I didn’t have time for the camp. Today was the first day in the camp. It went really good,” Patterson said. “Favorite part was probably meeting Coach Strong and being able to throw in front of him and show him what I’ve got.”
“Really, with him, he says a lot so you’ve got to take it all in and make sure to pay attention to whatever he has to say because your there in live drills and it’s important to take it all in,” he said. “This morning we went into the classroom and went over coverages and stuff like that. Being that Shea was the one living in Texas and I also have family in Texas, and as far as the football program, the way they change it up and throw it around a little bit. If we come here that definitely is big for us,” Jones said.
“I just came out here to talk to the coaching staff and get another good feel for the school and everything. Great visit. It’s always good when you get to talk to Coach (Charlie) Strong,” he said.
“Coach Strong is a real genuine person and that’s outside of football. I’m looking forward to being under that kind of system because with Coach Strong, he’s not only worried about football, he’s worried about you off the field and after football. That’s really what concerns me.”
“I feel like they are really going to change this program around in the next two to three years. If we come here and help them do that then it could really be an impact on the state of Texas and I’m always open to changing programs,” he said.
“They are definitely in my top three or top five with Florida State, Alabama and (Southern Cal),” he said.

Interesting Gentry/Locksley connection I read about on OrangeBloods. Some of you may know Locksley's father is currently the Maryland offensive coordinator, but he was the head coach at New Mexico (campus located in Albuquerque, Gentry's hometown) from 2009-2011 before being fired. During that stint in Albuquerque, Kai and Gentry were teammates in AAU basketball so they've known each other for a while. The report made it sound like Gentry is not turned off by Texas' pursuit of Locksley.

Update on 2016 WR Mykel Jones of Patterson, La.
(Scout-Horns Digest)
Head coach Charlie Strong and the rest of the Longhorn staff have made 2016 wide receiver Mykel Jones a top priority. Jones checks in from Patterson (LA) at 6-foot, 185-pounds with 4.45 speed. The four-star standout was making his second trip to the University of Texas.
Mykel Jones (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=6347244) is a four-star wide receiver from the class of 2016. He has early offers form powerhouse programs such as Texas (http://texas.scout.com/), USC (http://usc.scout.com/), UCLA (http://ucla.scout.com/),Penn State (http://pennstate.scout.com/) and LSU (http://louisianastate.scout.com/) to name a few. Yesterday he made his second trip to the University of Texas.
”For this second trip it was even more love,” Mykel Jones said. “Obviously at the spring game they offered me so when I arrived this time they showed me a lot of love. I talked to Charlie Strong (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7485862) multiple times and was in and out of his office and spoke to all of the coaches and a few of the players. Being with Shea Patterson (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=6704595) was great because we had a chance to see a lot of things together and we want to go to college together.”
Texas has done a great job since their arrival in Austin, making sure Jones knows he is a top priority for the Longhorns. He feels even more comfortable with the coaching staff.
”It made me feel even more comfortable with the coaches,” Jones said. “I am family here and I can come anytime I want. They gave me even more insight on the education and things off the field. They just made me feel comfortable around the team.”
One big reason Jones has been so interested in the Texas program is his recruiting coach defensive backs coach Chris Vaughn (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7814444). Coach Vaughn has done a tremendous job with lots of recruits but in particular with players from Louisiana including Mykel Jones.
”It was great being around coach Vaughn” Jones said. “I look at him like my family and we are on the same page and we talked about trying to get it going. Especially being around Shea and I hate to keep brining this up but Shea and I are going to the same school.”

Update on Texas' QB Camp (Scout- Horns Digest)
The University of Texas staff is working with some of the top high school football players in America for the class of 2015, 2016 and 2017. One of the hot topics is the signal callers for 2016.
2016 is the year of the quarterback for the Texas (http://texas.scout.com/) Longhorns. Once Charlie Strong (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7485862) and Shawn Watson (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7819382) secured a verbal commitment from the top signal caller on the board (Zach Gentry (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7049180)/2015) it has become about the 2016 kids.
Texas has multiple top tier quarterbacks for next year’s class that have high interest in the Longhorns. Starting with arguably the top QB in the Southeast, Shea Patterson (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=6704595). We take a look at who performed at a high level.
Patterson checks in at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds from Shreveport (LA) Calvary Baptist. There are more than a few reasons to want a kid like Shea Patterson. The biggest reason is he is one of the top players in America for next year. Patterson is very close with Texas top WR target Mykel Jones (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=6347244). Jones is the cousin of 2015 RBNicholas Brossette (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=5458918). Patterson and Jones will attend the same college. I would be absolutely stunned if Patterson inks with Arizona (http://arizona.scout.com/), his current school of choice.
“It was great,” Shea Patterson said. “It was a great day out here, I got to meet the coaching staff and spend some time with them. It was awesome.”
The other player who was very impressive was Brennen Wooten (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=6892437). Wooten is roughly the same size as Patterson at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. Wooten is from Marble Falls (TX) and like Patterson has high interest in the Longhorns. He has been to Austin several times and this was the first time he threw for Charlie Strong and he was impressive.
“I like how they coach quarterbacks,” Brennen Wooten said. “They coach hard and that’s what I like. Coach [Shawn] Watson is a great quarterback coach and I like his system.”Logan Bonner (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7767431), from Rowlett (TX) and teammate of current Texas defensive end verbal commitment Charles Omenihu (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7520728) was probably the next guy as far as performance. He is a very young quarterback as most of these guys are either 15 years old or just turning 16. Bonner is 6-foot, 200-pounds. Bonner is one to watch moving forward because of his ties to Texas through Omenihu. Bonner enjoyed his time working out for the coaching staff.
“The best part was the competition,” Logan Bonner said. “Coach [Charlie] Strong is an awesome coach and I love his personality and coach [Shawn] Watson is one of the best QB coaches in the country and I love the way he coaches.”
One player who may have surprised a few was Seth Green (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7116347). He is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound QB from Woodbury (MN) East Ridge high school. A four-star player with offers from Illinois (http://illinois.scout.com/), Iowa (http://iowa.scout.com/),Louisville (http://louisville.scout.com/) and Minnesota (http://minnesota.scout.com/) to name a few.
Green told me earlier today regarding the best part of the trip and thoughts about Charlie Strong, “Coaches for sure and coach Strong is a great strong willed guy. I felt I could have done a lot better to be honest but still good though,” Seth Green said.
Another quarterback in the 6-foot-3, 200-pound range made the trip down from Trotwood (OH) and his name isMessiah deWeaver (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=6439594). Strong and Watson offered him when they were at Louisville so the staff is very familiar with his game and what he can do.
“The best part was being able to work out at Texas stadium,” Messiah DeWeaver said. “Coach [Shawn] Watson is very intelligent and knows a lot of football. They are definitely a school I will be looking at.”
Dillon Sterling-Cole is from Orange (TX) West Orange-Stark high school and stands 6-foot-3, 180-pounds. Sterling-Cole has early interest from Texas, Texas A&M (http://tamu.scout.com/) and LSU (http://louisianastate.scout.com/).
“The best part of the Texas trip was being able to be around a lot of knowledgeable coaches who have been around the game for a while,” Dillon Sterling-Cole said. “Coach [Charlie] Strong is building a great program especially when you have coaches on his staff like coach [Shawn] Watson.”
Some feel that Jalen Hurts (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7504300) at 15 years old might be the top quarterback in the state of Texas. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Hurts is a very smart quarterback and has only yet to scratch the surface of his potential. The Texas staff has made a very good impression on the Hurts family. Hurts is from Channelview (TX)
I think Patterson and Wooten may have raised the bar a bit but it’s important to remember these kids have two years of high school football yet to play. Lot can happen with the way they grow and fill out over the next 12-24 months. I think you will see an offer made in the next few days or sooner.
Expect to see defensive back Roney Elam (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7504179) on the Texas campus Friday. Coach Chris Vaughn (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7814444) will know a lot more about where the Longhorns stand after this visit.
Wide receiver Mykel Jones had a VERY good trip to Austin, his second trip on his own dime. Things could not be going any better from the star wide out from Patterson (LA)
While the attention was on the quarterback play from the 2016 class there was one from the class of 2017 that fit right in. 6-foot-2, 190-poundShawn Robinson (http://texas.scout.com/a.z?s=110&p=8&c=1&nid=7687081) from Denton (TX) Guyer high school. Robinson is very raw and rightfully so but has all the tools. He is going to be a great player in the future and it’s great that Watson and Strong were able to have him in camp at such an early age.
“The best part was getting around coach [Shawn] Watson and [Charlie] Strong,” Shawn Robinson said. “I think they are pretty cool, they treated me well. Loved it up there.”
Recruiting fans need to remember the Texas staff is behind on the 2015 class because other schools have recruited them for the most part for over 12 months. As you look into the 2016 and even some of the 2017 players the field is much more leveled for the Texas coaches because they are all getting on the kids at the same time.

The assumption is he's committed to another school and is seriously considering UT otherwise there's no need to remain quiet about it.

Anyone have any real information about the possibility of Texas persuing the newly resigned WR coach of Florida, Joker Phillips? I've seen a few tweets that there may be interest there. Aside from his troubles I like the idea simply because I have not heard any recruit rave about Les Koenning our current WR coach. We could certainly use some new energy at the position.

Apparently Muschamp fired him because of possible recruiting violations. There have been some talk about Bruce Chambers getting the AD job for DISD, if he wants it or applies for it. Burton of 24/7 thinks that is what has to happen for Phillips to potentially be a Texas coach.

If Texas lands Thomas and Akamnonu follows, you're looking at a really solid 2015 OL class. What's funny about that to me is everyone has been so worried about the lack of recruiting firepower on the offensive side of the ball, but Wickline and Watson have been the best up to this point.

Aggsy has a pretty stout class going.
Back when Texas was killing it in recruiting, what I remember happening was Oklahoma and Aggsy would basically give up on the current year and concentrate on the next years class. It worked well for Oklahoma in 2008 when they got commits from RJ Washington, Steven Good, and Jeremy Calhoun.
Maybe that is what Texas needs to do, concentrate on 2016.

The silver lining is ags are poised to have a rough year on the field with 5-6 losses most likely which kills momentum. The bad news is Texas will be unlikely to capitalize with schedule and QB situation. Should be lots of losses for both teams.

Damarkus Lodge has committed to Texas A&M.
I'm not taking shots at anybody, but this attitude doesn't strike me as a Strong guy, from ESPN.
"It's just that environment," Lodge said. "It's so laid back there, and they're really not on you too hard ... but when you make the wrong decisions, they will be."
Again, I'm not taking shots, because I know that he is crazy talented and he would have a spot in any recruiting class in the country, it just strikes me as an odd reasoning.

We're getting curb stomped in recruiting. Our only hope is to get off to a fast start in the season and hope the media hypes us up enough to salvage some top prospects from this class. We have landed zero recruits so far in the 2015 Rivals Texas Top 30... surely that can't stand. It might be a first time in the history of the program if it did.

you must be young
Back in 1984 to about 86 that was pretty normal at Texas. We had alumni calling recruits up and telling them don't come to Texas. The Akers staff had such a reputation for being arrogant and no black inner-city kid would give Texas any consideration at all.
It Took Texas 3 coaches to break that stereotype and much of the reason for that change can be attributed to John Mackovic. Mack Brown took it to the next step and owned the state.
If a recruit doesn't want to come to Texas because it's too hard, then I'm willing to let him go to some other school, even someone as talented as Lodge. Texas has had plenty of talented wrs come through that didn't want to work some were 5-star recruits.
This team needs discipline accountability and a killer attitude, it doesn't need kids that think the world revolves around them. We've had those types and they tend to quit when the going gets tough.
Texas will get the kids this year, we aren't going to get shutout of the top 30 kids in Texas, but you better believe that when Texas starts winning Strong is going to attract some of the best from around the country.

We might be flattering ourself here though, I don't know how much I'd take away from one brief off-the-cuff remark, but hopefully you're right. I strongly (no pun intended) support the hiring of Strong, but I got to say I'm disappointed so far. I figured we get a small bump in recruiting based off the excitement of a new coach, but we've gotten crushed instead.
I feel badly for coach Strong getting all these rejections, but again, coaching matters. I bet we could still beat A&M next season. They almost lost to Duke in the Chicken Sandwich Bowl with one of their greatest players ever at the helm. :lol

Seems like his point is that some of A&M's recruits are not as serious and/or committed to the hard work that needs to be done in school to be great.

That Lodge isn't the first to praise the lax atmosphere at A&M after committing. Of course, that doesn't mean he and the others were afraid of the atmosphere at UT, or that it was the primary reason A&M was chosen over UT. But I'm not up in arms over the loss of a recruit who cites that as a plus.

BINGO
Right now the Proof will be on the field. Texas has a lot of solid players in the system with a lot of talent, I want to know if these workouts are enough to turn them into the team we expect them to be.
A lot has to fall into place for Texas to be great. I feel confident Texas will beat BYU and Baylor. I'm not confident in Oklahoma or UCLA, but I think they can run the table after the Oklahoma game which should put them in a great position to get to a BCS bowl game. Of course that depends on our QB staying healthy.

One other thing I have to say.
I'm completely anti rankings especially rankings of kids who haven't even played in their senior year.
With that said, the Aggsy have currently committed 3 guys from the Rivals 100 list.
Now when Mack was actually winning, Texas normally carried about 7 to 10 from that list Same with schools like Alabama and LSU and USC. Probably throw in FSU and Florida as well.
Now I know they are kicking our ass this year, but only 3 guys when they have 17 already committed and probably won't take but about 4 or 5 more. Not so sure they are doing as well as they think they are.
And before you ags get started, I'm sure you are already better than Texas will end up, so lets get that out of the way. Still when it's all said and done, I'm thinking they might not have as highly ranked class as they think they will.
