Nobody here knows shit about the environment of the football programs. All our information comes from third party sources. Unless you have been in the locker rooms of both teams and in the office of both head coaches when they are recruiting it's all hearsay. At the end of the day these recruits feel they relate better to Sumlin than to Strong. It's pretty simple. It's hard to get away with the "I'm not your friend, I'm your coach" style of recruiting when you have no proven results on your record. I'm sure if Strong starts to win then recruits will start to notice and commit but right now it's shown to be a pretty easy decision for these kids on who they would rather play for. Different coaches have different coaching styles and there isn't one correct way to doing things. It's whatever works and whatever translates into wins.

And before you ags get started, I'm sure you are already better than Texas will end up, so lets get that out of the way. Still when it's all said and done, I'm thinking they might not have as highly ranked class as they think they will.
There's 8 months until signing day. Nobody should be getting too excited or down about recruiting right now.

I'm picking nits, but it's more like second-party sources because it has come from the recruits themselves. More important, A&M might be leading the race for the Fulmer Cup (rankings are being updated) -- that speaks volumes about the environment.

because it has come from the recruits themselves.
Because recruits say we have a more relaxed environment? It would take an idiot to not realize Sumlin is more laid back than Strong. Any time the recruits say something regarding Sumlin being cool and calm and you guys are taking it out of context and applying it our whole football program.
Plus, how many practices, games, weight room sessions have these recruits been apart of at A&M?

not to go off topic but, strong's resume is better than sumlin's in my opinion. i would pick him over sumlin in a heartbeat. its crazy these kids aren't running to texas considering his track record. but i understand a&m is the "in" program at the time.

It sucks big time, but I can live with offensive stars like Lodge picking A&M because Sumlin's system will almost always score points and there's only one ball. However, it's a bitter pill to swallow when defensive studs pick A&M because Sumlin has never had anything close to a good defense. My worry is that could change if he continues to pick up the Alakas, Harveys, Boyds, etc. They could become a true contender if they ever get that side of the ball in order, so Strong has to have a great 2014 on defense and put a stop to that.

His plan right now is to get through the majority of his senior season before committing, so that's the good news for UT.

Yep. That defense was stacked, and you saw what happened the next year, just like what happened at Houston. When he doesn't have a defense that is not stacked, or give him an average defense, they will look shitty.

Sumlin is recruiting at a higher level than Sherman ever did at Texas A&M. Sherman left us with nothing defensively in terms of young guys. We played a ton of true freshman last year.

That Lodge isn't the first to praise the lax atmosphere at A&M after committing. Of course, that doesn't mean he and the others were afraid of the atmosphere at UT, or that it was the primary reason A&M was chosen over UT. But I'm not up in arms over the loss of a recruit who cites that as a plus.
The goods..... Aggy has started getting all the coddled recruits that Turdfaggot used to go after, while players who care and are willing to put the work in go elsewhere....

Update on OL recruiting from Inside Texas...a lot of people have been wondering what the offer to OL Tyler Moore means for guys like OL Madison Akamnonu and OL Garrett Thomas. Well, according to the report, Akamnonu has not been in touch with UT since he visited campus in May and Thomas talks to Coach Wickline daily. That's likely your explanation for the offer to Moore. Seeing as how Akamnonu comes from an OU family, that's probably his destination.

-I'm giving you the most popular name based on clues offered up and the chatter that's out there.
-With the way A&M is recruiting right now, it's hard to point at one of their Top 100 guys and say he's opening it up. It doesn't fit the trend for their 2015 class right now. The candidates are QB Kyler Murray, WR DaMarkus Lodge, OL Trevor Elbert and DT Daylon Mack. Mack would be the logical choice out of that bunch, but he's been pretty quiet since Murray committed.
-FWIW, the guy from 24/7 who gave the report is Blake Munroe. He lives in Stidham's part of the state and has covered his recruitment. Plus, Stidham has visited Baylor since committing to Texas Tech and the recent Notre Dame offer might be a big deal.

espn insider article:
SAN ANGELO, Texas -- A 20-minute slot for new Texas head coach Charlie Strong stood out on the three-day schedule at the recent coaching clinic at Angelo State -- one of my stops on a recent mid-June trip through Texas. The clinic is a 40-year tradition for the state's high school coaches to learn from their college counterpart and was one of his first outings in front of a large number of the state's high school coaches. I was intrigued to hear what Strong's message would be in one of his first outings in front of a large number of high school coaches.
Part of the intrigue stemmed from the perception -- held by many of his peers and even those who know him well ?- that Strong is something of an introvert, and that the social aspect of the UT job might not be his, ahem, strong suit.
Those in attendance didn't seem impressed by Strong's time on the stage. Maybe it was coincidence, but someone let out a loud laugh just as Strong wrapped.
"I think everyone was shocked. It was that bad," one coach told me later.
"It made me miss Mack," one joked.
Another: "If I was the coach at Texas, I would act like I had bigger balls than that."
Strong spoke so rapidly, jamming one sentence on top of another as if he were playing verbal Tetris, that you would have thought he had two minutes, not 20. It was difficult to follow his train of thought or discern the central points being made.
The bulk of the address sounded like something more suited for parents or boosters than people who also coach for a living.
An example: He said he intended to "put the 'T' back in Texas" with "toughness, trust, togetherness and teamwork."
Or the primary mission being, "We want to see young men graduate," and "We want to win championships," because "there's nothing more fun than a championship."
I jotted "LOL" in my notebook when he told coaches "either you're growing or you're dying."
What does it all mean for Strong in his first year at Texas? That's where we begin my Texas Takeaways, which include FSU's impressive new defensive coordinator, insight behind the Lane Kiffin hire and more.
Not a Strong impression
In the most connective moment of his speech, Strong closed by inviting coaches to visit campus, and he actually acknowledged the situation. It might have been a nice place to start; it was the only portion that didn't feel rehearsed or cliche-ridden.
"We are the premier university in this state," he said. "I know you're all watching to see what happens. We have some work to do. We're going to get that done because of the staff we have."
Beyond that genuine close, Strong seemed to miss his target audience. What's worse, I was later told that Strong irritated the clinic's leadership -- including former NFL coach Wade Phillips, whose family is coaching royalty in the state -- by bolting just after his allotted time.
Whether he felt socially uncomfortable or did not care to hang around, it was seen as a slight by those running the show and those who had traveled to the West Texas town.
"He obviously didn't want to be here," one coach told me. "If he did, he sure as hell didn't show it."
So what's it all mean?
Well, it isn't an indictment of Strong or what he will do at Texas. The guy has a track record of being an outstanding football coach, and most college coaches believe he'll fare well in Austin because of his X's and O's acumen.
But those 20 minutes did highlight some of those questions that coaches and college football observers had when he was hired for one of the most visible gigs in the country. They knew he would not be a Mack Brown-level ambassador, but they wondered if he could up his social game. San Angelo seemed to indicate he still isn't interested in messing with that side of the job.
It's undoubtedly a story worth monitoring.
I mean, I couldn't help but wonder how Baylor's Art Briles or Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin -- the hottest recruiting coaches going in the state -- would have handled the same room.
Speaking might not be Strong's gift. So be it. But not coming early or hanging around for a few minutes to shake hands and meet UT's de facto minor league coaches? That makes you wonder how he's going to connect with those theoretically supplying his next batch of players.
Don't take my word for it.
"It ended up being good for Art and Kevin," one coach told me. "How does that happen?
In the end, it was just one day and Strong will have plenty of other chances with the state's coaches. But it was an odd impression to make.
Who knows? Maybe he intends to just keep recruiting Florida kids to build his Texas roster.

The same coach added that the prospect of the Longhorns hiring Baylor head coach Art Briles “terrified” those in the area. They felt Briles was the perfect football fit, even if he isn’t the most media-oriented coach in America. (Or if the thought of hiring Baylor’s coach was difficult to stomach for some UT die-hards.)
...
Maybe Strong does win at Texas, instilling toughness and discipline that coaches told me had dissipated under Brown. But the first-blush reactions from many I spoke with Friday night, as the news of the Strong hire began to break, were of skepticism. Some even laughed.
“I can’t believe Texas did this,” one of them said.
His angle is talking shit about Texas and Strong. These quotes were either cherrypicked or totally fabricated, and others — who have put their names to it — have said they had the opposite impression from the talk.

It wasn't part of my argument, I just wanted to share. Franklin was too slimy for UT and Briles is older and hasn't shown he can field a good defense. I'd have been happy with Briles, but I suspect Strong has a higher ceiling; and I say that having — I believe — seen Briles' ceiling.

"It's definitely been a blessing. I can finally focus on my high school team. It's a big weight off my shoulders and I feel very comfortable that I made the best decision I could for me."
"I've been in the weight room a lot, working on my speed a little more, bulking up a little more," Gentry said. "I'm a hair under 235. I got my 40 time down to a 4.6 flat a couple weeks ago."
"Before last season, I was probably mid to high 4.6. A lot with me, I think it's just me finally growing into my body," Gentry said. "(The speed) pretty much happened when I stopped growing. I'm also working a lot lower body wise, working on footwork, sprinting."
"I just want to get back to Austin, check things out again, see the coaching staff, see the recruits we're trying to get over there," Gentry said. "It'll be good to connect with them, throw with some of them."
"I try to recognize and see some recruits online (i.e. Newsome, Johnson Brothers). I'll try to hit some of them up," Gentry said. "I think it's important to hit some of those guys up, so I stay in touch with some of them."

Got this email this afternoon.
Dear Texas Ex,
We apologize for interrupting your Fourth of July weekend, but we have urgent news of the university to share with you.
Multiple (http://community.texasexes.org/redirect.aspx?linkID=118074&eid=66874) news (http://community.texasexes.org/redirect.aspx?linkID=118073&eid=66874) outlets (http://community.texasexes.org/redirect.aspx?linkID=118072&eid=66874) are reporting that UT-Austin President Bill Powers has been given an ultimatum to resign or be fired at this week’s meeting of the Board of Regents. We can confirm for you that this news is accurate, and that President Powers has declined to resign, instead asking to work together on a timeline for change.
A forced resignation or firing would be a travesty for UT. It would cause further tension with legislators regarding UT System, would compound unrest among faculty, students, and alumni, and invoke serious harm to the institution’s reputation in the national spotlight. President Powers has advanced the university through many tremendous accomplishments, and has been a great leader; he deserves better than this. This is about our university; it is a treasure that alumni need to protect and we need to stand up and fight for its stature. The University of Texas at Austin deserves better than this.
This latest news came from an unfortunate leak to the media which has caused a premature impression of an ongoing and unresolved personnel decision, and has inflamed the controversy. If the individual who leaked the details of the conversation between the chancellor and the president of UT-Austin to the media is in a fiduciary role over the university, this person has breached that duty and has not acted honorably nor in the best interests of the university. Despite this, the chancellor and the president should be able to work together on a mutual decision that provides leadership and a succession plan for the university. That is the way this kind of change is responsibly made.
For more information on this matter and resources for alumni to take action, please see this overview (http://community.texasexes.org/redirect.aspx?linkID=118071&eid=66874) on our Texas Exes website, www.texasexes.org (http://community.texasexes.org/redirect.aspx?linkID=118070&eid=66874)

2016 LB La'Darius Hamilton of Corrigan, Tx. (Scout)
La'DariusHamilton is one of many top tier 2016 high school football players that will attend the Texas camp on July 18th. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound outside linebacker checks in from Corrigan (TX) Corrigan-Camden.La'Darius Hamilton (http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7911905) is a hard-hitting linebacker prospect from the class of 2016. He will be one of many top prospects trying to catch the attention of head coach Charlie Strong (http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7485862) under the lights.
"The recruiting process has been pretty good so far," Hamilton said. "It started out slow but things have sped up a whole lot lately. I feel like I have a better chance of being recruited now."
Hamilton is a bit of an unknown among recruiting fans, but college coaches are keeping a close eye on the talented backer.
"The schools showing me interest right now are Sam Houston, SFA, SMU (http://smu.scout.com/) andTexas (http://texas.scout.com/)," Hamilton said. "I have camped with Baylor (http://baylor.scout.com/) and Texas so far, and I've visited the University of Texas and I loved it. It all felt like home while I was there."
Hamilton is hoping to show his skills for Charlie Strong, Brian Jean-Mary (http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7799749)and Vance Bedford (http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7831919) on Friday night.
"I feel like the strength of my game is defending the run," Hamilton said. "Once I get my hands on the ball carrier he usually never gets away. I want to improve on my zone coverage while defending the pass."
Hamilton will attend camps with SFA and Texas in the coming weeks.

A lot of people don't know his uncle played for UT and roomed with Coach Bedford.
Unfortunately, he will not be at the "Under the Lights" camp because he had previous plans to be in Mississippi.

Update on CB Holton Hill of Houston Lamar (Inside Texas):
"The recruiting process has been going really well," said Hill. "I'm actually enjoying it now. We're starting to get closer to the season so I'm traveling more and lining up my officials. I'm starting to get into it."
"(Strong and Vance Bedford) are just telling me I need to come down and have fun," Hill said. "They want me to get a feel for Austin and Texas. They want me there every chance and I like that. Being around the staff and being on campus, it's supposed to be fun. Get that Texas vibe."
"(Texas) wants me at corner and that's where I belong," Hill said. "It's where I feel most comfortable and that's where most people are recruiting me."
"I want that,' its feels like home feeling,' said Hill. "That's the most important thing to me. I'll know in my heart. It may come real soon or it may come after I take my official visits."

I think UT picks up OL Tyler Moore of Galena Park North Shore that weekend. I'm curious if that will be it for the 2015 OL class because Moore would make five, but I still think Texas needs another true tackle and OL Madison Akamnonu should be going Oklahoma. I hope they continue to recruit OL Connor Williams of Coppell regardless. He mentioned he would be making a visit in July but didn't give a specific date.

Quotes from OL Garrett Thomas of Many, LA after committing to Texas (OrangeBloods):
"I was on a trip last week. We went Tennessee," Thomas said Tuesday about when he arrived at his decision. "We just go up to mountains and hang out. A lot of streams and stuff and you can tube down. It was a lot to thinking time. That's when I started to really weigh my options. I had a lot of free time; time to figure out things. I pretty much know all I needed to know about the schools. Some of them I visited more than others. I gathered knowledge from talking to coaches, players and doing my research."
"One thing that really helped me finalize my decision and break things down… so many of those schools are great football schools, great for o-lineman," Texas' newest offensive lineman commitment said. "What it really came down to is I wanted to have a Petroleum Engineering degree. My family is all in the oil industry. Texas and OU were the only two that had that degree. I was looking at the depth chart a lot and what the coaches liked and what was coming in and what was coming out. I had to make sure I could fit in with the coaching staff and looking around I really feel like I fit with my future school."

"I don't know what exactly has happened and things can obviously change but (Kris) Boyd lists Texas and Florida State as his main two schools," Perroni posted from the Texas 7-on-7 which Boyd is participating in.
Many thought he would commit to A&M soon, but over the last week or two, there has been a lot of rumblings surrounding his brother, '16 LB Demarco Boyd. Apparently the two of them wants to play together, and Demarco Boyd has Texas and Florida State as his leaders. Boyd might earn an offer at the July 18th camp.

Just for the laughs. Taylor Hamm says that the "buzz" at the Opening was that Malik Jefferson was down to A&M, UCLA and Notre Dame.
Quotes from the mother of LB Malik Jefferson (OrangeBloods):
"Of course, as a mom I asked him to stay in Texas. I did," Mrs. Jefferson said. "I will honor his decision if he goes out of state, but I would really like for him to stay in Texas. I've asked him that. He's young. It's not that he has to be looked out for and watched. He'll do the right thing no matter where he's located."
"I'm rooting for Texas. I just have to say I'm rooting for Texas. I think Charlie Strong has a lot to offer. I think the program, just being at Texas, just to say I graduated from Texas, is a big thing. And I think he'll have structure and that's what I'm looking at for him."
"Malik is getting a lot of attention but Malik is very humble. I think he enjoys the attention up to a certain level. I think he's so proud of what he's accomplished. He did it with hard work," she said. "When he was a kid, he was not given anything. He was given a back yard, a football and two older brothers. I think he truly loves the game. He doesn't love all the attention, but he enjoys some of it. Like when he got his picture on a magazine, it was more of a proud moment than a boasting moment. "
"I was a little leery of Mack Brown. I told him, 'In my house, it's God first, education second and then football.' He looked at me like, are you joking? I said 'Trust me, it all comes together and you get a fantastic person out of that. You get an educated person, you get a God-loving person that will help your team get to a higher level,'" Mrs. Jefferson said.
"I think Texas has a tremendous amount of structure and ability and growth. I think they could take him to the next level, and that's getting the degree and then wherever it takes him from there."
"I have not talked to coach Strong since I've been down there. But I did sit down and talk to him, and I just came away with that warm, fuzzy feeling," Mrs. Jefferson said.

Down to Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and UCLA.

If anyone is throwing guesses out there, the prospect is:
-2015
-plays high school ball in Texas
-committed to an in-state school
-his Texas offer has never been been public knowledge
He will possibly flip to UT this weekend.
Interesting. Never heard about this...thanks for all the info, Tfloss.

Not a problem.
That info has been out there for a few weeks now, but the way they threw it out there initially confused the hell out of people.

OrangeBloods saying 2017 QB Shawn Robinson of Denton Guyer will most likely be in attendance Friday.
It's obviously super early, but most people think this is Texas' guy for that class.

I believe the Statesman ran with the original story, but OrangeBloods reporting this evening that two Longhorn football players accepted a free meal from an NFL agent. The good news is the school already reported it to the NCAA, but no word how this will affect the eligibility of the players in question. Sounds like it was LB Jordan Hicks and LB Steve Edmond.

Unlikely LB Malik Jefferson comes at this point, though.
Why is that?

Negative. Stidham's UT offer has been public for a long time and he has no interest in UT.

Fucking hell.
Hicks is borderline worthless at this point.
Always injured and goes full retard off the field.

You'd think he'd learn after the incident with Case. Guess stupid is terminal for some.

QB Kai Locksley is supposed to make his commitment announcement before his first game:
@RivalsFriedman
If four-star QB Kai Locksley doesn't issue a silent commitment some time within the next 10 days I'd be shocked. #FSU #Texas
