Chip likes to create drama. Regardless of who was picked, some players were going to disagree. Doesn't necessarily mean unhappiness or a locker room divided. Im sure the players will be fine.

IT-In all the hustle and craziness that ensued after Tyrone Swoopes crossed the goal line to Texas' fans immortality, were recruits as wide-eyed as I've ever seen at a football game.


Eric and I have said," if Texas wins, recruiting will take care of itself."


Well, I have an addendum.


If Texas wins games in this manner, the recruits won't just ride to Austin, they'll run.


I bumped into a handful for some quick thoughts.


"Oh my God," said Baron Browning. "That was lit." Browning's face was one of shock and awe.


"Can you believe that," said Sam Ehlinger, walking with Walker Little, who by the way is freaking enormous. Just as big as Little is, was his smile. "Amazing."


One guy that this made a serious impression on; Levi Jones, Westlake LB. I'm hearing Jones is seriously considering Texas now and not just from after tonight.


Strong and Ehlinger and made major strides in his recruitment. If Texas wants three LBs in 2017, they could possibly grab Browning, Hines, and Jones. That's too nice.


Also bumped into Marvin Wilson, another giant among giants boasting a giant smile after a giant win. Texas already looked good with Wilson, but after tonight, a little better.


One recruit that didn't make it in was Temple's Taquon Graham. He suffered a hip injury on Friday night and decided to stay home and rest.


I feel strongly he'll be the next Texas pledge and I believe it will happen very soon.

Update on 2018 CB Anthony Cook of Houston Lamar (24/7):

“It was amazing,” Cook said. “I had never been to a college game, and my first one was a good one. I want to see (more) wins. I want to see the DB’s go out there and compete week in and week out.”

“I like what Charlie Strong is doing with the defense,” Cook said. “I feel like he is really bringing that DBU attitude to the Texas program. It feels like home every time I touch foot on the campus, and a place that feels like home is a place that I can really see myself grow at.”

“I’m real cool with the two players that went to Lamar [Holton Hill and John Bonney], those are my guys,” Cook said. “My cousin, Eric Cuffee, is a freshman, so there’s a lot of familiarity on the team."

I have a friend who is a big UofH fan that swears that he has a dependable "inside source" that says that Tom Herman will absolutely not take any other Job except for The head coaching gig at Texas. Not sure if this is more of wishful thinking on the part of UofH fans or fact. Guess we'll see if that holds true when the season has concluded. I'm pretty confident that the head job at Texas won't be open this year.

I think it is just a Big 12 ranking. UT would be lucky to get a top 20 ranking in any of the major polls. People react to much to a win or loss in week one. The UT-ND game was great, but I am still pulling for Strong to win 8 games this year. It will not be easy, but Sunday night made that a lot more possible.

2. Carson's Future

The future for Texas 4-star commit Lagaryonn Carson continues to be cloudy. After solid performance in Weeks 1's loss to Gilmer (3 sacks, 3 TFLs), Carson was riding high. Weeks before, he went to Austin in front of the UIL board pleading for another year of eligibility, which was granted by a 5-4 vote, he stopped by the Texas facilities to visit with the coaches and players.

The Texas staff said he looked great, and even hung out with Malik Jefferson and sat in during the defensive team meetings.

"Seeing the coaches and Malik was great," said Carson. "Sitting in the meetings was really cool. You see how the program works from the inside." Carson was trending up.

Then late last week, he mouth and temper got the best of him. After an argument and disrespecting his defensive coordinator at Liberty-Eylau during a practice, LE coach Steve Wells had no choice but to suspend him. It was reported by Carthage broadcasters and another site that he was kicked off the team. That's untrue.

At this point, Carson needs to make amends with Wells and his DC. Those coaches have gone out of their way to keep Carson on the straight and narrow when at times Carson didn't give them a reason to. He needs to apologize in front of the team, and make things right, especially with Wells.

At this point, his suspension could be lifted this Friday or a month from now. All I know is that Carson is a kid that needs serious direction. He takes two steps forward, one step back. He's exactly the type of kid that needs Charlie Strong in his life. Carson needs Texas more than Texas needs Carson.

UT is going to stay by him for now. For how long, that's anyone's guess. Here's hoping that trend line starts back upward.

I'm thinking the exact same thing as you. Stillwater is a tough place to play and Oklahoma will be a wounded animal by then. I'm thinking wins against UTEP and Cal, two close losses then they thump Iowa State to go 4-2.

I'm down with it. Houston has so many stud players they produce that leave for "big schools" like Ohio State. If they can keep their players home? They can compete with anybody in the country IMHO.

The whole state of Texas produces 5 star recruits. For example, imagine if Adrian Peterson stayed home and paired with Vince Young! :wow

These last few years saw us get behind and not have enough fire power to keep us in games. This put tremendous pressure on the defense.

Who do our board members think will start at QB for UT? Shane or Ty? I think it's going to be Shane because CS insists both players will play and it doesn't make sense to start Ty and then randomly bring in Shane, but it does make sense to start Shane and still use Ty in the 18 Wheeler Package.
