Sucks but we need to be realistic about our expectations. We'll be ok with our current players.
If Strong stays, does Little go to UT? What's the consensus on that because I have no clue.
NO

we lost 5'star players in the past and we are going to lose them in the future. It sucks, but the program is bigger than any single player.
I will say this, at this point all I want is a couple RBs, another DE and then shut this shit down and save the ships for next season. No reason to take a bunch of guys that will do nothing but sit on the bench and be an expensive scout team player.
2018 is another year and a chance for this staff to really make an impact.
You don't just stop taking players because the players you want are going elsewhere. You address the needs of the team with best available players you can obtain and move on. Texas well finish with a top 25 class.

What world do you live in? Texas will be lucky to break top 40.
This is a very small class, Texas won't get but maybe 4 more 4'star players, and that is being very generous. Everyone else will be a mid to low 3'star. None of which will make a lick of difference.
Texas is going to have a very good year next year and will end up with a huge class, the less bread we eat now will be much better for us next year.

All of the 2018 offers are still listed plus the lone 2019 offer.

From IT {Nalin}:
After Little announced, his father Doug pulled me off to the side, and unsolicited said, "The new Texas coaches did a great job in their short time with Walker. Herman's going to be very successful there. That visit made the decision very difficult for Walker. They were very impressive. Coach Herman called me last night and asked what he could have done differently, and I said, 'nothing, you guys were great.'" Those words will undoubtedly ring hollow to Herman, but it's not like his pitch was way off. He simply lost to a school and staff who had been on Little for a very, very long time, and had all the pluses the Little's were looking for built in to their sell. It's Stanford - you don't have to work hard to sell academics or offensive line play.

Not trying to be a downer here but I'm not sure we're in contention for any of the "big named" recruits at this point. I know some of us at this point could care less just thought I'd throw that out there to keep things in perspective. I know some think we're in good with OL Chuck Filiaga I think he's a Michigan lean at this point and I know everyone thought all we had to do is offer Eno Benjamin and he was ours without question but I believe he favors Arizona State at this point. Just my hunch from things I see on twitter of course I hope I'm wrong. Possible K'Lavon Chaisson is one those that has a real interest in us at this point. Again not to be negative just giving my 2 cents on where I think we stand in those recruitments.

I don't know who we can and can't get, but I know that we need probably 2 runningbacks. I wouldn't waste a ship anywhere else at this point. Save them all for next year.
There is no need in filling up on bread right now, if Tom is the recruiter we are told he is, then he should be able to bring in a hell of a class next year. I fully expect to see him winning 9 or more games at the minimum. Our talent at the Oline, Dline, WR, is as good as I've ever seen it. We got a great QB, DB, WR, and DE committed. I'd like to get a good LB and two RBs, and maybe a DE or other position guy that comes along and can contribute, but don't just take a guy because we 18 free ships and we want to fill them all. That is like saying, I have 100 dollars in my checking account, I need to go spend it. Save it for next year and get a huge full class.

I really wonder Herman/Giles are going to do with DT's in this class. 2018 looks good for Texas as of right now, but 2017 looks rather problematic. Someone mentioned Corey Bethley (Katy) as a possibility. I could see them turn to Joshua Rogers (Houston Christian), who holds an offer from Houston (as well as Oklahoma, Ole Miss and A&M) despite being ranked as the 122nd prospect in Texas.

Looks like Sooners had some tricks up there sleeves to take some heat off the whole Mixon situation...onward we go. Ags been trolling the same way announce they receive Texas offers then bash Texas by reaffirming their commitments. Interesting strategy by some rivals a lot of me thinks is being provoked by the coaches of these schools. We'll see who gets the last laugh going to be scary if Herman can crack the code on the problem our program had had of late.

Hamm on Sheffield:
- The longer Kendall Sheffield plays out this process the more skeptical I’m becoming that he signs with Texas A&M. Cecil, Kendall’s father, is and always has, called all the shots when it comes to his son’s future. He’s very analytical with the decision making process, almost to a fault, which is just one reason why things have been delayed close to a week past JUCO signing day. Another reason for delay is Texas. Something I initially mentioned last week as a potential twist. For one reason or another, it feels like Mr. Sheffield is looking for another reason not send his son to Texas A&M and the Longhorns are trying to use their connections to make a late move. Kendall attended multiple Houston games this fall and became close with Will Jackson, former Cougar CB that went in the first round to the Bengals, while he worked out with “The Footwork King” over the spring and summer. So there’s a connection with Tom Herman and the guys he’s put into the league.

EJ on Toneil Carter:
"...it's almost a foregone conclusion that he will land in Austin. I'm told others around his camp are really pushing UT."
" Texas would take Carter as an early enrollee."
Howe:
"Those close to Carter have spent the last few days looking at backup plans in case Carter was forced to explore other options."
Academics and the depth chart at Texas appeal to Carter's family.
Meekins stayed on Carter just in case something like this would happen. That could be paying off big time right now.

Some TIDBITS from IT
The word on the street is that North Shore DE/OLB K'Lavon Chaisson is recruiting for Texas behind the scenes. Everything I hear says Texas. Except for Chaisson, who isn't the easiest person to get a hold of. Two guys he's really going after are Wylie East RB Eno Benjamin and Lancaster WR Omar Manning. OU and LSU are making a late push for his services, but at the moment I feel confident UT is the team to beat.
Dallas Bishop Dunne DB Chevin Calloway is down to Texas, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. I'm told it's really UT and the Hogs. Herman and Washington have made up some serious ground on the 4-star cornerback, but he's also got family ties to Fayetteville.
I expect him to visit Texas in January. With Thompson, Boyce, and Estell already in the mix, grabbing Calloway should wrap up DB recruiting for 2017. With the insane talent at defensive back in-state for 2018, don't fill up on bread. Leave a spot or two as you go after BJ Foster, Anthony Cook, Jalen Green, and the Green twins from Desoto (Joe and I will have a feature on the Green's later this week).

No it won't effect Eno. Dobbins is the one who wanted to be the sole running back commit. Eno is fine with competition, he even sent a congrats out to Toneil via twitter. I think they will be a great duo.
I have no clue who Toneil is close with. I've heard nothing about any relationships he has but I think that's mostly because he wasn't on Texas' radar at all until a few weeks ago. I'm sure will hear something about who he may help influence soon.

Now that Carter has committed, I feel a lot better about our RB situation. If we also get Benjamin I think we will be sitting pretty at a position that took a big hit this off season.
Hopefully we can get one or two quality Olinemen to commit and also a couple of TEs and I'd be happy calling it quits for those positions.
I've upped my count on how many I think we take to 20.
QB - 2 Ehlinger and possibly one more.
TE - 2 No idea but I think we get two
OL - 2 No idea, but I think two
RB - 2 Carter and Benjamin
WR - 2 Miller and Manning
DE - 4 Graham, Carson, Chaisson, Bryan
DT - 1 no idea
LB - 1 Bimage
DB - 4 Boyce, Estelle, Thompson, Calloway
I'd take that class and be happy. It could have been a lot better, but it also could have been a lot worse.

Good momentum.
But for next year in actual games:
Who is our QB? It's kinda important.
Who is our backup RB to Warren?
Is Warren going even going to last a season?
Is Warren going to lose speed via the injury? Quickness was his liability.
Is Porter good enough to help?
Having Carter commit is great, but expecting immediate contributions...
Our defense. Is it really likely we can handle the Big 12 without some really bad bad games? It's not like the Big 12 was really good. Maybe we are more organized, but will it matter? Depth is required, playing 70-90 downs on D is exhausting. We could not handle mobile QBs who broke out.
I don't see this automatic 10 win season that will lead to an avalanche of recruits.

Quotes from TE Reese Leitao of Tulsa, OK after de-committing from Nebraska (Rivals):
“I talked to them (Nebraska) and let them know I just wanted to make sure my options were open," Leitao said. "But, they are still a consideration of mine."
“My first official visit will be to LSU Jan. 13,” he said. “I am just going in to increase those relationships with the coaching staff, just check it out and learn a lot more. I want to go see what the tradition is all about because I know they have a really rich tradition. It’s a big school, a big campus and they seem to care about their football a lot.”
“TCU, I liked my visit there. My parents were also impressed with them as well,” Leitao said. “It is at the defensive position, so it gave me a chance to look at things on the other side of the ball. I was impressed with speed on their defense and I could come in and showcase my athleticism off the edge, so I was intrigued by that.”
“I really liked the atmosphere when I was (at Texas),” Leitao said. “It was good to see Coach (Tom) Herman again and that whole staff that was at Houston. Everything checked out, I was very impressed and my parents were impressed.”
“Those teams really are my focus right now,” Leitao said. “Ole Miss I have been recruited by and a little bit by Auburn too, but I don’t know if I’ll be taking official visits there.”

Houton's first loss against Navy. 46-40
Navy threw the ball a total of 6 times? Averaged 5 yards a pop on the ground. Dominated the clock...
How does this happen? I know Navy has a tough running game but it's not like the film was not out there and it was the first game of the season so Navy took them by surprise. I just say it's college kids, but wow.
After reading an article from above I do like the idea of having good position teachers. I'm glad Herman emphasized that because we had some terrible route running, all the way to defenders getting confused consistently on very basic pick plays. There were some glaring teaching problems IMO, 3 years worth.

Update on TE Cade Brewer of Austin Lake Travis (OrangeBloods):
“I’ve gone and sat down with my family, talked over it a little more in depth,” Brewer said. “I want to make a pretty quick decision here in the next couple days. I’ll try to do it by the end of this week. We’ll see what happens.”
“With SMU, it’s just my relationship with coach (Chad) Morris and that staff. We have been going way back, ever since my sophomore year they have been talking to me. Coach Morris used to coach at Lake Travis,” Brewer said. “I’ve known him for a long time, they run a very similar offense with their tight ends. It’s a very good education, very good location."
“With Texas, it’s just the tradition they have there at the University of Texas and how close it is to home. It’s probably the bigger conference and just coach (Tom) Herman, how he’s done over the years at Houston. I would say those are the biggest factors.”
“It does (impact things) a little bit. Charlie (Brewer) has been one of my good friends for a while,” Brewer said. “But for the most part, it’s strictly about me, what I want to do for the next four years and my future.”
“I still have to sort it out. I’m still indecisive right now,” Brewer said. “I’ll have a little more conversation with family and friends, then do what’s best for me.”

Nice game by Xavier Martin but his fumble on that drive to try to take the lead while Cibolo had all the momentum sealed the game. He would have had great numbers all year if not for the bum ankle. He finally looked more like his old self in the title game. Caden Sterns also had a nice game and Brendon Brady was a beast. I expect him to get some offers next year as I think he will have a breakout season.

-A&M is feeling like they're almost completely out of it.
-Ohio State wants to take two more DBs and Sheffield is one of three options, including S Jeffrey Okudah.
-while Sheffield hasn't visited UT and hasn't had much contact with Herman and his staff, he visited Houston multiple times and he's close with DB William Jackson who was drafted in the first round out of UH.
-they don't know how serious of a contender Texas is at this point, but the interest from Sheffield is legitimate.

The good thing is it doesn't seem like Jordan and Joshua Moore are 100% on playing together in college. Also, the 2018 DB class in Texas is good. Here are the highest ranked CB's and S's by the Composite rankings. German Green is the only one ranked outside the top 50 in-state.

Some of you may recall Yoakum played their semifinal playoff game in Austin and 2018 S Jordan Moore was all about UT at that time.
He told 24/7 he'd be committing to UT the next day, but his mother ended up wanting to think about things more.
He also spoke with A&M's 24/7 site and mentioned it was still UT at the end of last week, so it will be interesting to get the full story later on where things turned.

Remember the Moores are two, one of them is almost a five star. I get that no single guy will break anything but this was a big chance to take two big prospects.

This quote by 4-star DE Max Wright of Katy Taylor, is from earlier this week, from 24/7.

Biggest reason we should not worry about the Moore brothers.
1. Fully expect Aggsy to have a really crappy year next year.
2. Fully expect Aggsy to dump Rumlin after next year.
3. I fully expect Texas to win North of 9 games next year.

"I’ve been talking to Texas quite a bit. After the coaching change about two days later, Coach Meekins, the new tight ends coach at Texas texted me and told me to give him a call and he was telling me about how they think I’m their guy and I can come in a play early. They’re looking for a guy to split out not just be a traditional tight end and I think I fit that role well. The previous staff was going to offer me right before they left but they didn't want to not knowing if they were going to be there or not."

Well Buechele isn't necessarily slow footed...and I think it was a major part because Ward was such an exceptional runner. Herman will still integrate some of his QB run stuff just not near as much as he did with Ward, obviously.
If Herman is as good of a coach as advertised he will be able to gear the offense towards the strengths of its skill players. Ward was elite as a running QB and a decent passer, so it made sense to get him as many opportunities in the open field as possible then use that to get him chances to throw it down the field. Buechele is an elite passer and a decent runner, so the opposite can be expected...where defenses get forced to sit back in coverage, giving Buechele opportunities via scrambles/designed runs to pick up yardage.
If Coach Herman is stuck in one offensive philosophy and can't adjust, then he has no business coaching at the Division I-A level, much less Texas.

For a true freshman he was incredible. Imagine our record with just Swoopes...
Hopefully he will get stronger. His arm is adequate mainly because of accuracy. Receivers had to wait a bit too long for those horizontal throws to get receivers in open spaces. And the longer deep throws happened after very short drops. Beuchele was also supposedly in an offense he was very familiar with and fit HS QBs. We did not see stand in the pocket and step up/deliver a 17 yd rope over the middle. We got very predictable. Was that a play calling problem or a QB limitation problem... a bit of both...
So troops, I guess it is Herman's job. Because he does not have a great athlete in Beuchele based on last year. And he will be starting over I assume.
