I think Shane is not going over the middle because the coaches are trying to protect him. There are much more chances to get the ball picked off when you throw over the middle. Plus it's easier to read coverages when all you are doing is throwing down field on sideline routes.

Eventually the training wheels are going to come off and Shane will start to see the whole field and things will open up in the middle.

So what has changed? How about an improvement in coaching in that conference. I'm convinced that coaching is vastly more important than Talent. Great coaching can eliminate many issues where talent isn't great. Now I also believe that superior talent will hide coaching faults, to a degree.

Mack Brown was a mediocre coach that brought in superior talent. Nick Saban is a superior coach that also has superior talent. Same with Urban Meyer.

So far Charlie Strong is a horrible coach who has brought in good talent, and the results are what they are. Sumlin is mediocre coach bringing in good talent. Bob Stoops was a great coach, not sure he is anymore. I think he has gotten stale, he used to bring in very good talent, now it's down to just good. I think he is benefiting from the Big 12 sucking.

Tom Herman looks like a great coach bringing in mediocre talent, but doing great things with them. That is what I really want, and that is what I thought we had with Charlie Strong.

I like the article. Foreman is taking tremendous punishment IMO so that resonates as well. He craves contact to get him free. And he does not stop trying when stuffed probably to his and the team's detriment.

Also it's tough to respond positively on the field and with effort when you get put in a no win situation. It's easier for RBs and QBs to respond... Keep bulling forward, throw the ball away. But LBs and DBs can get burned if they don't know their assignments or have to guess because the offense is coming at you too fast and your coaches are not helping.

Our offense seem to bog down a bit. I guess I will have a look at the replay to see if they stacked the box 1st half. A bit concerned with the offense now. We seem to have a tough time on 3rd down. And I recall way too many plays with very tight coverage ( Resulting in some questionable calls) I want to see receivers wide open on middle routes at some point. Can our receivers run proper routes? Our 6'6" freshman has huge athletic ability, I would rather he just get open rather than relying on jumping over defenders.

Texas talkThe need for a 2018 linebacker like Mitchell may be mitigated a touch if Ohio State is able to make something happen in Texas during the remainder of the 2017 cycle. The Buckeyes are set to get an official visit from the country’s top-ranked inside linebacker in 2017 – Plano East’s Anthony Hines III – at the end of October, but, according to one source close to Texas football, that visit may just be window dressing.
“I hear it’s Texas A&M all the way,” the source shared. “I’d be really surprised if he ended up leaving the state. His official visits are so random, places like Penn State and Florida, that just makes it seem even more like he already knows where he wants to go.”
OK, OK, so maybe it’s time to move on from the idea that Hines will commit to Ohio State in November? I still contend that if his official visit goes off as he says it will, there’s a chance things could change because of the need for an inside linebacker in this class, but we’ll see because if he doesn’t visit it’s moot anyway.
What about the other Texas linebacker in this cycle, Baron Browning? That one may be a bit more up in the air, according to this source, though another Texas school is feeling good right now: the Longhorns.
“I was told that Browning was pretty much set on Texas,” the source said. “But the issues there may end up helping send him Urban Meyer’s way.”
Why? Because of the Kennedale 5-star prospect’s relationship with another Texas 5-star cornerback, Jeffrey Okudah, who most believe will commit to Ohio State.
“If Charle Strong can’t right the ship and Texas decides to move on from him,” he added, “I’ll bet Baron goes with Jeff. Baron’s the guy Ohio State needs. He is special.”
Browning, the country’s second-ranked 2017 outside linebacker, will make an official visit to Ohio State on Nov. 26 for the Buckeyes’ home game against Michigan.
