can't put this one on charlie. defense has kept this team in games since he took over but offense keeps on stalling out and not taking advantage of turnovers. and when is jeff traylor going to get some heat? his special teams unit has been terrible: blocked kicks, missed fg's and questionable punt/kick returns.

Baylor's BOR has to go in my opinion. Corrupt up to the top. You fix it by replacing the BOR then once you have actual human beings in place, you have a shot at re-doing your athletic programs to produce outstanding young men instead of a serial rapist factory.

TE recruit who visited for WV game

Texas is still searching for a tight end after losing Major Tennison earlier in the recruiting process.

One new option at the position is St. Stanislaus (MS) product Chase Rogers, who made an unofficial visit to UT over the weekend.

“We started off by seeing the facilities,” Rogers said. “The weight room was second to none. I liked the atmosphere. It was a good game. I like the way they used their tight end. I think they are looking for a more versatile tight end that they can spread out a bit. They told me they are short on tight ends.”

A three-star prospect, Rogers was previously committed to Tennessee but backed out of his verbal commitment over the weekend. Rogers didn’t want to get into any details, but he did say that he is exploring all options.

Rogers currently holds offers from California, Memphis, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Wake Forest and others. He is hoping to add a few more now that he is on the open market.

“I have a couple in consideration,” Rogers said. “Miami, Texas, UCLA, USC and Florida State are some of the schools on my list. I’m hoping to get offers from them. I’m looking for a place that utilizes the tight end a lot. I want to make a difference early.”

If an offer from Texas does come his way, Rogers said his interest level in the Longhorns would be extremely high.

“They would be in my Top 4 or 5,” he said. “They’ve always been up there, but I just haven’t had a lot of contact with them until now. I was actually born in Dallas. My aunt and uncle live in Katy. My cousin is committed to play soccer there. I have a lot of family ties.”

While on campus, Rogers had an opportunity to converse with tight ends coach Jeff Traylor and offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert, who hinted at some potential good news.

“We didn’t talk much about an offer,” Rogers said. “Coach Gilbert said they like to focus on winning first and then recruiting after the season. Coach Traylor talked to me about my season a little bit. They said they were watching me closely. I’m hoping that insinuates an offer will come.”

At 6-foot-3, 238 pounds, Rogers is ranked as the No. 33 tight end in the country and No. 17 overall prospect in the state of Mississippi, according to 247Sports Composite.

FWIW Bobby Burton on CS future at Texas

Not sure how else to say this other than just lay it out there.

I am told Charlie Strong must win the final two games of the regular season or he will likely be relieved of his head coaching duties prior to any bowl game.

The key word in the above sentence is "likely".

At 7-5, Charlie Strong is safe.

At 6-6, there is a problem.

There are divided factions over whether Strong deserves another year at the helm.

There are school administrators, like president Greg Fenves and AD Mike Perrin, as well as school donors, regents and powerful politicians.

I am told it will ultimately be Fenves' decision with the consult of Perrin, regents, donors and even the governor. I am told regents and donors will carry more weight in the decision than Perrin.

Why?

Because if Strong is to be fired, the donors are the ones who will be asked to commit funds for the coach's buyout. No president wants to see $15mm walk out the door without it being replaced somehow, some way.

**

Donors and regents are somewhat divided on this decision.

There are a few major donors who felt like Strong should have been fired following last year. They have not changed their stance the entire time.

There is a second group of major donors who feel like this season has shown Strong is just not capable of pushing Texas over the top. They have been talking about and hoping for change since the Oklahoma State game.

Then there is a third group. And that's the final group where Strong has not yet lost support.

At 7-5, I am told this third group will win the day and Strong will receive an extension and coach next year.

At 6-6, I don't think the regents and university president can keep the wolves at bay, nor will they necessarily want to.

At 6-6, more large donors are willing to help kick in financially to make the change. A place like Texas works best if as many people as possible are aligned in a decision.

**

For those first two groups who want Strong gone regardless, it's just not going to happen. Not when Texas has a chance to run the table on every other in-state Big 12 program this year.

Think about it.

Texas has won two of its last three games, beating both Baylor and Texas Tech in the process. A victory over TCU would give Texas a win over every other in-state Big 12 program this year.

And, to date, TCU is the only Big 12 team that Strong has not defeated in his three-year tenure.

Whether it's a win or loss against TCU, it supports whatever decision is made.

Charlie Strong needs to prove he can beat TCU to keep his job. And that's fair.

**

I'm told Malik Jefferson will be available for the Kansas game.

I'm told it's wait-and-see on whether or not Jake McMillon will be able to play this weekend. It's possible Texas might hold him out just to give his knee another week of rest.

**

I'm told contact between Texas and La Grange running back J.K. Dobbins, who is committed to Ohio State, has all but stopped. Dobbins and a girlfriend who attends Texas recently broke up.

**

I'm still not overly worried about recruiting in the face of Strong's job uncertainty.

If Strong wins out, he'll recruit well. No other team in the state (including A&M) is exactly lighting the world on fire right now, which gives Texas a decided edge for the players who want to stay home and play.

If not, someone else will take his place.

I don't get the point of firing Charlie unless they can get a top 5 coach, which I don't think they can at this point. Strong has been a hell of a recruiter and I think the defense has shown significant improvement. The offence will also benefit from another year under Gilbert.

With his popularity among the players, give him one more year. No one can say UT didn't give him a fair chance after 4 years.

This could get very interesting as Penn St. has the inside track to win that division in the BiG over Ohio St. Or Michigan.

And then if Penn St. does win that division of the BiG and then loses in the BiG playoff and Ohio St. or Michigan gets in without even winning their division within the conference OR the conference along withe the BiG champion getting left out? Lots o thinking about the mighty conference Championship and why it's even needed.

Hope it happens.
Get rid of the conference Championships? They are meaningless... ?

I still cant get away from the feeling that a team needs to play all the teams in their conference, old school. Like the BiG needed Rutgers and Maryland... joke.

One final note, I spoke to a long time friend who is a division one coach and asked for his thoughts on how he sees this Texas team’s prospect for success next year. He said, “they’ll win ten games no matter who the coach is there. You and I could take over that job and win ten games next year”. That’s just one persons opinion but it’s a person who doesn’t have a dog in the fight and is a person with an extensive football background who at least believes coach Strong has built a foundation for future success.

Not if D'Onta goes pro, most BS comment ever seen and so clueless. This team could easily be a 3 win team this year and to get to 10 next year would be close to a miracle even if Foreman stays and i think he is gone.

Week to week guys?

He just won a big game.
We must have patience and long term thinking.

Having one less than desirable recruiting class because of keeping or firing a coach should not be as important as the forward view. Is Strong really improving this team I ask the board? Was the W. Virginia game really an improvement despite the loss?

IMO people got unnecessarily excited over the Tech win. I saw the same damn mistakes in the secondary, easy pick plays that we screwed up on despite a good overall defensive plan. The W was good but the same problems were evident. This was not a + for Strong IMO yet I am in the minority. What about W. Virginia, despite the L. Was there real improvement?

I wouldn't mind a bowl game. Obviously still have to beat TCU and if we get there hope we can play well enough to beat our bowl opponent. At least they could finish the year off a couple of wins and feel some sort of enthusiasm for the upcoming season. Maybe a lot to ask for but I would take any positive momentum into the offseason and for what it's worth give the young guys a couple more weeks of practice. Only thing I'm not sure about is how the new coach plays into this...would they step in for the bowl game or would Charlie coach it too, honest question?

We are a team with the third most wins in college football. We like to think we are a University who will give coaches a chance which we have done with Strong IMO. We think at some point we should be in the hunt for a conference championship every year like Oklahoma. We think during this time we should have a shot in getting into the final 4.

The following is huge, money is not a problem, and the tradition is there. The recruiting is made much easier by being in Austin. We are in a very bad spell similar to ND I suppose. Michigan has been through this as well but with one hire, boom. Ohio State the same. We want a boom. We got a boom with Mac Brown. Then we got a happy, content grandpa with time.

And there you have it.

I wouldn't be against recruiting a second QB into this current class, but after this season QB depth won't be a problem. As it is next year we will have. Buechele, Merrick, Heard (if needed) and Erlinger. That is four guys we can call upon if needed. Ideally we can redshirt Erlinger, but if Buechele is insured for an extended amount of time, I'd be for pulling that shirt.

Sources told HD Texas president Greg Fenves initially wanted to wait to do anything until after Friday's regular-season finale against TCU.
But after discussions among UT officials on Sunday, it sounds like athletic director Mike Perrin could meet with Strong either Sunday night or Monday morning - before Strong's weekly press conference at 11 am CT on Monday, sources said.
The meeting would outline Strong's departure with the hope of Strong coaching in Friday's TCU game, sources told HD.

Players are going crazy on tweeter tonight (to be expected).

Maybe they should've gone crazy on the field instead. Charlie would still have a job.

They may have asked Strong how he wants to do this. I doubt they are attempting to torture the man and the team. But I'm not a PR guy or "how does this look fellas"

If Strong doesn't spill the beans in his opening statement, someone will have to explain to me the strategy of letting reporters repeatedly ask him if he's fired.

Per OrangeBloods, Strong has informed his assistant coaches that he's being fired.

Inside Texas reporting Strong did let the team know earlier tonight that he's being fired.

Looks like they might be letting him handle it his way. They had to have asked him how he wanted this, if not, they all need to be fired. It's possible he did not consider the internal uproar. But then you think admin would have given them their thoughts about waiting like this.

Or we could be a big rudderless ship with everyone scared to make a mistake. Social media does suck with issues like this. It allows gossip to increase exponentially. And in a way that's why we are here, a little dash of drama. We hit bottom so let's get irate and spray blame.

Ironic the players coming to the defense of Charlie Strong. I think both he and the players had resigned themselves to believe this was going to happen one way or another. Strong began stating a few weeks ago that whomever was coaching next year would win 10 games easy (seems very laughable now) and I heard several players began following Tom Herman on Twitter a few games back. That to me does not sound like a team with confidence in their ability to win and fight for one another. They played this way and were coached this way, too scared.

I hope he does get to coach against TCU and even a bowl game. If his players really love him that much, two wins and a winning record in the third year would be a nice way to walk away. He would also likely get picked up that much quicker, thus, saving UT many millions of dollars.

We would have beat Kansas with no coaches, making up plays in the huddle. Coaches can't do anything about players being soft.

rofl players might want to boycott. that's what happens with black coaches. players think they're your friends, that they'll go easier on you, so you don't give it your all. it happens in the NBA too, which is why so many players wanted those shitty ex players to be coaches.

I'd rather them be friends with their players than fuck children in a shower.
