coaches throughout the country are probably pissed at herman because they had to field questions this week from their wives about how many times they've taken other coaches to strip clubs.
Honestly,
There is this thing with males that once they leave their city with a bunch of cohorts, they are free from hurting people. If I am in Herma’s position, I call the wife BEFORE entry, get a stamped time pass, etc... Sorry, gotta go do the bubba thing with the bubba’s my love... Getting my pass time stamped for the press. And my wife could give a shit, she knows me. but others obviously care.
Deprived at home I guess.
Now did Herman actually tell his wife BEFORE entry...
Im thinking no. Does he actually announce who he is calling in front of all the other coaches? I’m thinking No. Takes big cahones to show up a group. But, but, recruiting... there were HS coaches present.

LHN game day Jordan Shipley made a very good point:
Last year’s team does not win 7 games without our punter.
Helped the D enormously.
Shipley is actually pretty good on the tube.

Why wasn't Ingram out there more? He appears to be special. And what is Porter doing out there in crunch time at RB and receiver? Sam might be adequate with a good run game around him using play action and such but now I would rate him as a situational package player at best. Like a ticking time bomb.Sadly he might be the best available? I am about ready to see what Rising offers. At the very least Ingram needs to be paired with Sam and more play action stuff and less of the flat pass to the sideline for no gain.Sorry for the rambling and I hope my negativity is misplaced.

And just like that, the whole freakin season is over. What a f***in house of cards we built. This shit stops now. We don't wait another 2 years, we don't wait another 2 games. Start looking for the next head coach, one that has an actual pedigree. One that actually wants to win and can get his players to perform on the field.
At the end of the day, you need your soul. But you also need that W. You have world class resources available to you when you are the head coach of The Texas Longhorns. But with it comes an expectation. Success.

For a start - stop hiring “flash in a pan” coaches. Coaches that have a historical track record of multiple years doing more with less. Gundy, Patterson, Mullen, Leach, or Dabo would thrive. Back channel it and have their agents tell you no. Some of those guys are obtainable

I agree, but I think it’s time for our shitass boosters to fuck off. It’s painfully obvious that Texas needs a coach in that mold. Personality can fuck itself. It would be heartwarming for a Pattersonesqe coach to walk to a podium, field a question from Bohls, and then proceed to rip his ass a new one. Or, you know, not ruin the whole season with some uninspired loss to a team who lost their head coach, had a teammate die, and was clearly operating on adrenaline.

On flash in the pan coaches OU is doing ok. Tom needs a QB Hurts might be available next year. But before a QB a better OL though there has been an improvement.
Also I now know wht Tom thought the offense was good, they were playing the Texas defense. Oh well we will beat a few patises then TCU, OU and W. Vir. will rout us.

09-02-2018, 09:50 AM
Way too much faith that we had seasoned QBs and RBs.
I still think we can salvage a good season. We did make a legit comeback. We are better than last season at this time. The euphoria of recruitment somehow bled credibility to the onfield team. From what I saw, Anderson was good on the OL and Caden Sterns, K. Ingram, and Foster will be good. Sterns had some outstanding plays. But that did not change the QB or RB shakiness that was clearly present based on prior season(s).
The coaching...
A delay of game penalty on the first offensive play of the game? After all this detailed mouthing about how we prepare? Wow...
Now we are going to see what kind of coaches we have after that disaster. If we win our winnable games and beat USC the jumping ship will cease. Then a good OU performance.
I hold out hope which is why I suffer.

One problem with the running game is that the best back did not get a carry in the second half. Ingram.
I'm not sold on him being the best back, I saw enough of him that he might be a decent back, but he isn't the best back I've seen. What we have is a bunch of situational backs. Young looks like a 2nd string guy, good enough for carries when the game is a blowout and you just need someone to not fumble and run out the clock.
Ingram looks like a guy that can carry the ball maybe 5 to 10 times per game, but more than that and he is going to get hurt.
Watson is the same as Ingram.
Porter is Porter
What Texas doesn't have is a guy that can carry 20 times and get you 100+ yards a game.
For now, the running game should be running back by committee.
Keep in mind, this isn't a bad thing if Texas can figure out how to not telegraph the offense with the personnel.
Right now, our line is good enough to run our offense, the backs are good enough to run our offense. the Receivers are awesome.
It all comes down to QB play, Ehlinger is not the answer, and if he is better than Buschele, then we need to look at the freshmen.
The coaches have all season to prove themselves, right now Beck is coaching for his job, when the reason you lose is because the position you coach, then there is a huge mark against you. If Texas doesn't show improvement, the seat is going to get white hot for Herman, and when recruiting goes south, you can bet he won't see a 4th year at Texas.
Understand we were outcoached by a man making 600k, a man who had not nearly as much time to get Maryland ready to play us! Our coach makes 5 million or more a year! What the hell is going on? Coaching, coaching, coaching! I will say it again, I am starting to think that Herman is not the man for the job at UT! And it pains and sickens me to say it:(! What a way to start off my Sunday!

I agree with most everything you say, especially on the quarterback situation. I have only seen Ingram for his six carries in the first half ,(aside from high school film) and it just appears that he has instincts and talents that the other backs lack. Of course its a message board for opinions and I surely could be wrong but I believe he is a difference maker. There is definitely a place for Ingram, Watson and Young in spots.Onward to next week.

A few thoughts:
- OL vastly improved from the crapper we were last year. We may even be an above average unit this year.
- Ingram is the best RB on the roster as a true fresh. Watson had flashes too, even with the bogus fumble call.
- One of these days we’re going to have a WR block someone.
- Where was Ingram our best RB in the second half?
- Defense will not be as good as last year, period. To much talent left for the NFL. That being said, this unit will be above average anyways.
- Brandon Jones is the best player on D.
- Texas needs to run tempo more. Things seem to click when we went into high gear.
- Mack Brown curse is still upon us, my fellow horn fans!

Especially since we cannot physically move the D backwards.
I dont one want to hear anymore shit about our massive squat improvement. Technique must be there. Does Yancy teach technique since we are so strong up front?
The D is more than willing to crush people, they just need to be in the right spots. Mistakes in position and possibly play calling on D. Also corners getting beat. When Davis went out, Boyce got chewed on. And Davis was not great but better than Boyce. And our best corner flat out dropped an interception. Gotta make that easy play early. credit for being in the right spot, but make that play, it was easy.
Some really untimely penalties as well.
We got better late, that is encouraging. The way the offense handled the setup to win was not. We could have won this game easily. Not last year, we got our asses kicked.
Brandon Jones was our MVP considering he also put us in decent position with timely punt returns.
Our receivers did make some very big catches for TDS at least.

I'm telling you now, if Sam Starts and throws an INT, he is going to get booed like Garrett Gilbert. Herman needs to let Shane start and maybe later in the day let Sam back in. As it is now, Sam is Garrett Gilbert 2.0 and will be until he proves otherwise.

If he doesn't then Sam is going to be Garrett Gilbert 2.0 and Herman is going to dig his own grave here. I don't care what anyone says in front of the mike, Sam's not a good QB when the game is tight, he makes stupid mistakes and is not a very accurate passer. He also holds the ball way too long.
What we saw yesterday is exactly what TCU is going to give us in a few weeks. Like I said, Tom Herman is coaching for his job, he may not see it, but his job is on the line just like his assistants. Injuries and the oline are not an excuse for the egg they layed yesterday. This team needs to show improvement and especially from the QB spot or this season is toast and Tom will be a lame duck after just two seasons.

Totally disagree with the Boyce B.
Coverage safe means stand 15 yards off your man and then barely bring him down after 20 yards? Should not be on the field unless that’s all we got. Can’t grade a guy who should be in another class then. Sterns and Foster seemed fine with their grade level.
Im gonna watch it again.
On a two man rush the last two or 3 series guys broke free and it was not Anderson, he took his guy. Way too much praise for the online who never seem to get a good push downfield on run plays. We caught them napping or stood them up on good runs. Maybe that’s all this offense requires on a run.

It is difficult to win with freshman and sophomore quarterbacks. The Patterson AD hire should be scrutinized. Who hired that moron ? His coaching choices crippled our program. Again, whoever hired that guy should be held accountable

Never said they were the reason we lost.
I know they gotta talk about something in the off season, but I personally don’t wanna hear about squats when we don’t shove people around.
The offensive line is not good enough to run our offense.
Because We have a super shaky QB situation, so we gotta punch people. We caught Maryland with tempo or stood them up on runs. We don’t shove people around. At one point, we were 1 out of 8 on 3rd down because we can’t get 2nd or third with two yards to go. (I don’t know what the final stat was). Then the run might be a possibility. 3rd and long won’t do it for this team all year. As I said before, maybe this offensive system is not meant to push people back. Because we damn sure did not. The pass coverage is better than last year. (Could it be worse?) I think Anderson helped enormously this game in that respect.
Also just rewatched a bit of the last few drives to win. They rushed two guys (the third was scramble protection for Maryland) and one got free and moved Sam happy feet. How does that happen? Anderson did his job one on one a number of occasions. So what the hell? We had guys looking around for people to block. That 2nd rusher should have been smothered.

The defense was much better after that blitz of points. That seemed to be a caught with your pants down not knowing what Maryland was doing with that freshman and took a while to recover and figure it out.
It got better.
The offense, was fuck, I have no clue what the fuck the game plan was, other than to look like dogshit.
The line looked better. Ehlinger made stupid plays, ran when he shouldnt have, passed when he should have ran. Just stupid decisions. Much like the game planning on offense. Just stupid.

.
Sam was sacked one time. Texas gave up 7 tackles for loss. That isn't a bad day. Stats don't show any QB hurries but I think that is dependent on the definition of a QB hurry. Ingram had a 6.2 rush average.
It's hard for the oline to look better when the QB (Sam) was holding onto the ball way too long. It should also be noted that when Sam is trying to mount a comeback the other team always seems to drop back 8 or 9 guys. and just dare him to throw the ball. What I don't understand is why don't they just do a 4 count and tell the QB to run. They can do that for a whole drive and force them out of the prevent. Truth is our coaches don't know how to call plays.

This makes me think we don’t know how to run whatever we are trying to do. On the quick passes out wide that have become so standard, there is no coordination between the blocking receivers and the ball catching receivers. It’s almost like running good screens in basketball, the dribbler has to set up the guy setting the pick properly. It seems the guy having to block is too far away, or not quick enough to move in, or just can’t block, I see all of them. And this is standard fare for any offense in football now, even HS.
The offense is so inconsistent. We got huge plays off of some great catches. But on easier plays to complete and catch and then run... they just can’t be relied on. They are not 2nd nature. Nothing is easy. Nothing is wide open, boy did we fool them, or get them outmanned.

Boy this is very true. It so frustrating. Like a bad flag football QB.
Yep, that’s how you stop that. They are waiting for pass, ready to move back, blockers find them and knock them on their butts or turn them around looking the other way and can’t find the running QB.

He added, “Honestly, the only team that I haven’t fully closed on is Alabama. Texas is completely out of the picture.”
On a interview with taylor hamm, Leal admitted that the only school he is still even considering is alabama. He says Texas is completely out of it and criticized Texas for losing to Maryland. So it begins...

Did not listen to the whole thing ~ 11 min
If Ehlinger played seventy snaps and made one bad error then our pass offense must change. We don’t get enough guys breaking free in the open on quick passes due to good blocking arrangement or on most pass plays down field. I recall Humphrey, Duvernay, and our other tight end getting well open but a ton of passes were contested. Part of a good passing offense is getting guys open. But it requires coordination on routes, looking guys off, and flat at recognizing a defensive set with an obvious weakness. That’s on the coaches imo unless our guys are running improper routes. If they cant block on quick passes, don’t call those plays. Ehlinger,it appears, must have guys breaking open (Unless it’s Colin) So get guys open.

He is now acting defiant in his decision about starting Ehlinger. It seems that Herman plays not to lose, instead of playing to win. We went up-tempo kept the defense off-balance and marched down the field for a touchdown and then the offense goes back to the "run the play clock down to 3 seconds, whilst letting the defense get completely set, and then snap the ball."

I don't feel bad or stupid or UNreal because I expect a level of excellence from Texas.
Here is the point.
Texas has enough talent to win 10 or 11 games. What we saw on Saturday was a coaching staff that failed the team more than the team failed the staff.
Tom Herman's post game interview was horrible. How do you not get on a player for stupid personal fouls. It is possible to go full speed and play aggressive and not commit personal fouls. It's called discipline. These players will give the coaches exactly what the coaches require of them. If the coaches don't require discipline play; they will not get discipline play. You have to stress the small stuff or they will never give it to you. If you don't hold the QB responsible for his turnovers then you are doing him a disservice, and you are sending a terrible message to the backup QBs.
The offensive line played well enough to win, the defense played well enough to win, the Wrs played well enough to win. The coaches did not coach well enough to win, and the QB did not play well enough to win.
Texas isn't going to make the playoffs, nor will they win the conference, this season is already about proving to us fans that Tom Herman is the right man for the job and that the talent on this team isn't going to waste.

Well we did beat a 6 win in a row win Missouri (last 4 wins in conference) team from the SEC.
They was hot.
But that was last season.
I got nothing for the strip club or our drug holding TE recruit.
Maybe Herman also needs to be counseled by Urban and his wife.
Seems to work if you got personal or personnel problems.
I think winning probably solves nastier problems though.

Tom Herman is either going to do what it takes to win, or he is going to be just like Charlie Strong and so many other failed coaches. I predict he will be gone by the end of season 3. He is stubborn in his hiring/firing of assistants, and he is stubborn in sticking with a QB. The only thing I have to say is it's his choice and his career that is on the line. He better hope that he turns it around before Jimbo does or Texas will be in a hole that might take decades to dig out of.

Ways to improve without going overly crazy.
1. Make the up tempo offense our standard offense.
2. Run the ball more.
3. Utilize play action on a more consistent basis.
4. Incorporate more slants, posts, curls, and crossing routes.
1. Press coverage by CBs at the snap
2. More DB blitzes
3. Use the 4-3 more
4. Make the new punter kick rugby style

Something I've wondered about as well since Beck can recruit, and Herman has had him putting in a lot of work in Arizona and California.
Too soon to tell since we don't know if the offense will fail and need a complete overhaul.
If you really want to keep Beck, you could also cut Meekins or Warehime loose. Drayton is questionable right now too as far as I'm concerned.
Hand seems like the only guy who would be safe, unless a new OC would want to bring in his own OL coach like Gilbert did with Mattox.

Is this a situation where the kid grew up on a military base and is just coming home? One of my high school team mates, played football in Germany at his high school on the military base. He ended his high school career 2nd team all state, signed with SMU, when they got their death penalty he moved on to Tulane and then had a 6 year NFL career.
Either way, a player is a player, I'll take em where ever they come from. You can't coach 6'7 300 Lbs.

I don't know tbh. His name sounds german so I don't think he's a military kid.
There are two organizations in europe, that helps kids come to the US on scholarships to play football. Gridiron Imports and Premier Player International.
Premier Players International have a couple of military kids (Uconn's starting RB Zavier Scott is a guy Premier Players International helped get scholarships a year ago) currently playing college ball. PPI holds a lot of camps around europe and finds the best prospect, then they take the best players on a tour in the summer for camp circuit and helps them get offers.
Gridiron Imports, which was founded by former FSU DE Bjorn Werner, evaluates players that sends in their tape. Then they help the best of them get into exchange programs and places them at high schools where they can get exposure.

Why is it that Tom Herman can be an offensive genius at Ohio State, an offensive genius at Houston, and come here and be a miserable failure?
I am going to admit, right now A&M looks light years ahead of Texas and Tom has better recruiting classes to work with, plus he has a one year head start on Jimbo.
Here is the sad truth, Texas isn't going to cut their losses, they are going to stick with Herman for the next 2 seasons before they broach the subject of firing him. I trust CDC to do a better job of finding the right guy for the job, but I still don't trust the boosters to do the right thing. They want their say, and will stick their noses in this and again muck it all up.
10 year 100 million is going to be the cost of fixing this issue. Congrats to the coach that gets this contract.
Also, I'm now of the opinion that Texas needs to junk the LHN and move to a high profile conference, that means either the ACC or the SEC, as of now I want the SEC.
As you can tell, depression has kicked in.
