Exactly, what's the point of keeping it a secret after signing the LOI?

Why is he keeping it a secret where he signed? Everyone presumes it's USC, so unless he pulls a shocker and signs with Texas it's a surprise to no one.

Exactly, what's the point of keeping it a secret after signing the LOI?

Kids want to announce on television.

I wouldn't make it more complicated than that.

De'Gabriel Floyd (at 6'1.5 and 231lbs) has been working as a kick-returner at todays practice for The All-American Bowl. He's got unique physical tools.

I think there's a legit chance Floyd moves back into that 5-star range. Same goes for Jake Smith - he was a common name dropped by the All-American Bowl and UA Game players when asked who, in their opinion, is the best player in the country.

Tyler Owens getting good reviews early on as well.

A few notes from the Under Armour Future 50, courtesy of 24/7.

- 2020 S Chris Thompson (Duncanville) says he's open. He's visited Texas and A&M more than anyone else, and they sense he'd be tough to pull away from them. Thompson said he wants to visit LSU, TCU, Oklahoma and Stanford. Nothing is set up yet.

- 2020 QB/ATH Ja'Quindon Jackson (Duncanville) said he's mostly hearing from Texas and Oklahoma State. Also said he wants to hear from Oregon since it's a school he grew up watching.

- 2020 OG Justin Rogers (Oak Park, MI.). Texas isn't mentioned by 24/7, but he mentioned a few SEC schools as well as the expected Midtwestern schools (tOSU, Michigan etc.). He visited Texas for the USC game back in September and is thought to have legit interest in Texas.

- 2020 ATH Mookie Cooper (Trinity Catholic, MO.) talked about visiting Nebraska and Illinois (where his former head coach is now an assistant). Also mentioned Texas, Michigan and Florida.

- 2021 QB/ATH Shedeur Sanders (Trinity Christian, Cedar Hill) said he's not focused on recruiting yet and probably won't be for a while. Baylor is the only in-state schools he's visited so far.

- 2020 CB RJ Mickens (Southlake Carroll) wants to put out a top 10 this Spring and wants to commit sometime during next season. He said his best relationships are with Ohio State, Oregon, Clemson and Alabama. He wants to visit Clemson and Alabama.

And probably the biggest piece of info from today.
- 2020 QB commit Hudson Card (Lake Travis) said he's ready and excited to enroll early in January 2020. Also said he spends a lot of time watching Texas and seeing how he fits into the offense. Thinks he can thrive in it.

Well we kicked them around pretty good.
Wish we had finished it up a little better.

I don’t understand how a superior team that thinks they already played for the national championship does not come in and beat us unconscious. It’s so easy to kick around a three loss lost big 12 team.

Let’s get those SEC chants going.
Never mind, The Aggies will start that chant if Alabama beats Clemson.

i didn't really put too much into the baylor and OSU wins as they were against two weak defenses but the texas win was a nice statement for the big XII. even OU accounted for itself much better in the 2nd half.

i would say that about mizzou, for sure but not so much on vandy although they did play tough this year in quite a few losses. what stood out the most was the success of the big XII offenses against the SEC teams in these bowl games.

What is interesting is Vegas (thus input from the public) whiffed pretty badly on SEC games.
And it’s understandable for at least a couple of reasons.

1 Most of the conferences basically build teams based on their type of conference play, if there is a general characteristic.
And sometimes it’s not entirely clear which style of football wins games. It’s pretty interesting that innovation that some college teams have illustrated has seeped into the pros.

2There is too much time between the regular season and bowl games which requires a different type of preparation. Kids get into trouble etc.

Inside Texas is saying they are "confident" he hasn't signed with any school, and the UT coaches feel the same based on info they're receiving.

If true, the victory over Georgia and the latest Kingsbury rumors should give UT a much-needed final push.

Texas is more or less finished with recruiting the 2019 guys minus a RB, a JUCO guy or two and maybe a grade transfer. This win will really take effect with the 2020 class where I feel Texas is going to flourish.

24/7 has an update as well...

They used the word "strange" to describe what's going on currently because they also believe McCoy is unsigned, but they did confirm that he told certain people, including OrangeBloods, that he did sign with the school of his choice.

It's not clear if he lied to get the media attention off of his back, or if he wasn't clear about what specific paperwork he's actually signed.

They know the McCoys have felt uneasy about all of the recent Kingsbury rumors and the family spoke with the UT coaches yesterday. They believe McCoy himself exchanged messages with the staff yesterday as well.

Despite the situation being weird, they still have him going to USC but wanted to make it known they're hearing Texas isn't dead yet.

24/7 ranked 2020 QB Hudson Card as the top QB today at the Under Armour Future50 in Orlando.

"Card, who is the No. 3 dual threat quarterback in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite in the class of 2020, stood out above everyone else. He had zip on his passes, he was accurate and although his delivery is bit long, it can be shortened and not lose the arm strength. He looked particularly good in the 7-on-7 portion as he made quick reads and threw the ball into some tight windows."

Latest and greatest quotes from ATH Bru McCoy (24/7):

"The environment here (at the All-American Bowl) is awesome and so is getting to hang out with all these players. The coaching is great. The most fun part is getting to know people from different backgrounds. You see guys on Twitter, but here, you get to know if they’re super cool… or not (laughs). But we all understand how good we are. Let’s just go play. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity."

"I’m taking it with a grain of salt. As blessed as I am to have an opportunity to choose a school, it’s a lot more than just making a choice. It’s also about putting the work in and putting the hours in. In my mind, it’s objective. I have a goal. I put myself in this position, so why would I think anything negative of it? I’m still having fun with it. It’s coming down to the end. It’s supposed to be fun. To do it in this environment and with my family flying in from all over the country, I’m just excited to experience that."

"I know where I want to go. I figured it out. I’m ready."

"No, I haven’t signed. Basically, I’m going to enroll and figure it out."

"Yeah, they have. They have just been telling me the facts. Everyone obviously sees the media, and (Kliff) Kingsbury is doing interviews for NFL jobs. You have a school with stability, and you have a school that could lose their offensive coordinator right after hiring him and a head coach on the hot seat. That’s a lot of their pitch. Also, you see the energy around Texas right now, winning the Sugar Bowl and people getting behind them. They’re coming back. That’s kind of the way they spoke to me about things. You can be a part of something that’s already going in the right direction or go try to start something. It’s true in a sense, but it’s all about your perspective. Everyone is like why do you want to go follow in the footsteps (at USC)? But it’s not really following in their footsteps. If I were from Texas and would go to Texas, it would be the same thing."

"To a certain degree, yes (the Kingsbury talk affects me). But I’m going to get my education. Coaching changes suck. But it is what it is. As soon as people understand that this is a business through and through, the easier it will become to make these adjustments. If I’m the best player, I’m going to be on the field and the ball is still going to be in the air. A coaching change would be unfortunate if it were to happen, but it’s not going to completely influence my decision."

"No (I haven't talked to Kingsbury recently), but on my home visit, he told me if he wanted to take an NFL job, he could have. He also explained that if it were about money, he would have gone to the NFL. But he said he wanted to be at SC and in LA. He said he was getting offered NFL jobs long before he took this job. That kind of speaks for itself."

"He (Coach Mehringer) has spelled out my experience if I were to go to Texas and the role he would play in my life there. The guy is the best. I’ve never come across a coach that I’ve connected with more than I have with him. Our relationship goes beyond football. I know that if I chose Texas or not, he has my back. I can talk to him about anything. Mutually, we understand that our relationship is solid if I go there or not. He’s the best. I have the utmost respect for him and the way he coaches. He’s the man."

"Very different (coaches). Tom Herman has a more serious demeanor. It seems like he’s a football mind. He’s competitive, he likes to win and he’s driven. He’s somewhat similar to Nick Saban but a little more toned back. Coach Helton loves football. He loves his players. He takes pride in his relationships with each one of his players. He wants you to call him 15 years down the line if you need advice. It’s not that Coach Herman doesn’t, I just know Coach Helton a little better. But yeah, he’s definitely about the culture of the team and creating an environment that everyone can thrive in. It’s healthy and conducive to winning. He’s a very well thought out guy."

"You look at Lil'Jordan Humphrey and he’s bigger, but it’s very similar to how they would use me. They always put him in a position to make a play. They find a way to get him the ball and create mismatches. That’s super attractive to a receiver, obviously. His statistics and targets throughout the game is what you want in a receiver. They say you’re the guy and put you in a position to succeed and win."

"I was super happy (with the Sugar Bowl victory). They deserve it. Being up there and understanding the grind they go through, I know they love the school and the program they are in. They got a 10-win season in Coach Herman’s second season. That’s great for him and the whole trajectory of the team. What Sam (Ehlinger) said at the end, ‘we’re back’ gave me chills. I was like ‘Texas is back, wow.’ It was a cool game to watch."

"Comfort, the offense and school in no order (of biggest factors in recruitment). My Plan A is to go to the NFL. My Plan 1A is to fall back on my degree and look at what kind of job I can get. How can I market myself to go get an internship right out of college? You look at SC, and guys are making six figures coming right out of college because of the connections. It’s very similar with Texas and the way you can use your degree and football to platform yourself to get a good job and be stable."

"I don’t know yet (what I'm majoring in). The more I learn about how each major branches out into its own specific direction, I’m thinking law or business marketing. Since I’m playing sports, it might be sports marketing. I’m trying to avoid calculus, though (laughs)."

Anyone want to take a stab in the dark with this one?

I'm going to jinx it but I think he's leaning Texas.

I think a lot of what he says here is very telling. He’s trying not to give it away but sounds much more positive for USC if you really slow down and interpret everything he says.

I agree. Not too worried about it as we have Collin and hopefully LJ comes back to win a natty. When we lose 4 senior wrs next year and we cant find a 5 star, maybe then worry. I'm more sad we didnt get trey or Cain. We need Kirko to be a monster next year, as we now have that target sign on our back.

This bowl game showed me what a difference our offense of line and defense of line can make.

We are losing three starters on offense of line.
We are basically losing three of three starters on the defense of line.

Anyone have a hypothetical starting Oline?

And D line ?

It would be nice hearing about guys like Patrick Hudson or others emerging based on practices for the bowl game or anything you’ve heard. Keondre Coburn played in the bowl game and did it decent job on the play I saw him.

I know this is way too early but I need comfort. After re-watching some of the plays we really did kick Georgia around up front.

We should be just fine on both, I would venture to say maybe even better. We return Roach who should be slipping back into his role as a DE which is his natural position. Ta'quon Graham was nails all year and should be starting at SDE. Gerald Wilbon is coming back to man the middle. The biggest question is who will back them up. We have juco help coming in from Jacoby Jones who should provide instant depth. Also have Bimage, Daniel Carson, Keondre Coburn and Moro Ojomo to help man the middle. I'd feel better if we could get one more DT but in a pinch Graham can move inside. Joseph Ossai was recruited as a WDE but played a lot at linebacker, so there is a possibility he grows out of the linebacker position and brings depth to the WDE positon. I'm pretty confident we are going to have a good Dline, however an early game against LSU will definitely test them. Other than that, our Dline will be good enough to handle league play pretty well.

Oline has some questions. I think you will see Texas shuffle some people around. The guys we know we can count on are Sam Cosmi, Zach Shackleford, Derek Kerrstetter, JP Urquidez, and Denzel Okafor. We have 3 guys who redshirtted and we will see how they do in the spring. I have high hopes for all 3. Reese Moore, Rafiti Ghirmai, and Junior Angilau, I think all three will either be starting or providing solid depth.

If I had to venture a guess on the oline, I'd say that Sam Cosmi will be moved over to Left Tackle, Reese Moore will slide into thee Right tackle spot, Junior Angilau will beat out a few guys to take the Right guard spot Zach will come back as center and Derek Kerrstetter will keep the right guard spot. Everyone else will be solid backups. That is a solid 8 man line and it allows us to redshirt all the incoming freshmen. I hope we can get a juco olinemen or another Grad Transfer or 2. I'd like to have a complete second team. Also hoping we keep Shepherd, he is a pain right now, but he has all the tools to become a 1st round NFL draft pick.

I feel better about D line for next year after seeing Ossai beasts out against a supposedly talented Georgia o-line. He led the team in tackles with 8. That’s pretty huge considering he didn’t but play much this season until here late. He’ll solidify a position, we have Roach back as well as Graham and Bimage. Bimage was out this game and we play well which is significant because he got a fair amount of playing time this year. We RS Carson, Coburn and Ojomo. Returns at DT are Wilbon and DCG. This from just what I can think up right quick without doing research.

No way in hell JP Uriquidez makes the 2 deep. Dude is the size of a tight end and is pretty much never discussed. I think you see us go heavy for a JUCO o lineman for right tackle. Or insert Denzel or Christian Jones as his name has been brought up more and more. My guess....
Cosmi, Imade, Shackelford, Kerstetter, and Okafor.

Angilau, Moore, and 2 more from what we have slash coming in and we should be good.
