The staff will hit their mark and take at least four imo.
A good thing to remember is how white-knuckled everyone was last year about DL recruiting, and it ended up working out.
Also, the 2020 and 2021 OL classes are seen as much stronger than 2019, so the staff is having to account for that.
I hope they will take four more OL.

Lots of balls in the air, especially with Cain insisting on making a December decision.
I agree getting Sanders is the ideal scenario.

Yup. All of the arguments against an expanded playoff system fall flat.
I do think 16 might be too many though. 12 max, imo
I like six, with #1 and #2 getting a first round bye, or eight.
Nobody will ever be 100% satisfied, but I feel like eight would at least cover all teams deserving of a title shot.
For example, an undefeated non Power 5 like UCF gets their chance, and you don't have a situation like Auburn last year where they beat both Alabama and Georgia by double digits, but were punished because they lost in the SEC title game while Alabama sat at home and watched.
Also, an undefeated Notre Dame may be getting in this year without having to play a conference game.

On RB Noah Cain...24/7 is saying RB John Emery of Destrehan, LA is trending hard towards LSU which has caused a big shake-up in his recruitment.
If LSU lands Emery, the biggest obstacles for Texas would then be Auburn and Ohio State.
They believe a win over West Virginia and an impressive visit to Austin that weekend would put Texas in the driver's seat.

Quotes from JUCO OL Myron Cunningham of Fort Dodge, IA (OrangeBloods):
“I kind of knew I was probably going to get it (UT offer) because of all the contact he (Coach Hand) was giving me over twitter and text messages,” Cunningham said. “But it was definitely nice to get it.”
“Right now, I’d say that most of the schools that offered me have a good chance. I’d say Texas is up there, one of my top schools right now,” Cunningham said.
“Arkansas is definitely up there,” Cunningham said.
“Just because they (Texas) were one of the first bigger schools to hit me up. I think that says something about them, about how they’re willing to stick their neck out there for me, keep me going,” Cunningham said.
“It was academics and a maturity thing. I wasn’t taking things seriously at Western Illinois,” Cunningham said when asked what led him to Iowa Central. “I’ve definitely matured off the field a little bit, got some coaches’ interest. They think I have the ability to play right away, which is what a coaches are looking for right now.”
“At Texas, he (Coach Hand) said they’re losing a few starters. They have a few young guys that they’re not sure if they’re ready to play, so they want me to come in and have an immediate impact.”

OrangeBloods asked JUCO LB Caleb Johnson to respond to claims that Oregon is his top school now.

I listened to a bucknuts podcast this morning during some down time. They actually discussed how OSU, even if they won out, could be left out of the playoffs. The Purdue stomping was that horrid, just like Iowa last year.
Then I thought about 8 teams and how that same podcast plays out...
”We are still in, even with another loss as long as we...”
No. just no.
Maybe 6 with a possibility for an undefeated tough scheduled outside power 5 & bye who ever is ranked first and undefeated. If not, you take only 4. Something like that. 8 teams and sec gets Alabama in with 2 losses and two others out of the SEC and the have nots still get left out.
Then next thing we are at 16, then 32, and the regular season means about as much as in college basketball. I’m pulling the “slippery slope/no hope for National powerhouses who get butt kicked” card on this.

Mike wants 16 because of the school he is currently coaching. I doubt he'd be this vocal if he were coaching at USC.
With only 4-6 teams though you're gonna get blue blood only schools like 99% of the time.
It''s gonna be Bama, Florida, UT, OU, Ohio St, Michigan, Florida St, Clemson, USC, Notre Dame and maybe some other fringe schools like LSU, Auburn, Miami, Oregon, Penn St, Wisconsin rotating in and out right now for the foreseeable future

should just completely reorg everything
get rid of rankings
8 conferences, each with two 8-team divisions. only 128 teams allowed in I-A, the rest should be in I-AA (get rid of FBS/FCS terminology, its stupid)
each team gets
7 games within division
2 or 4 games against opposing division
2 or 4 OOC games
division winners play each other for the conference
conference winners in an 8 team playoff
the most deserving team will always win in the end. if you cant win your division or conference then you shouldn't be in the playoffs

inside Texas says fenves wants texas to join pac12 in realignment..........terrible idea 9:30 games :madrun
Eventual realignment: The word here is that with Greg Fenves at the helm the Pac 12 is the only option. A big issue in chancellor interviews was aligning the University with like-minded academic institutions. Realignment was a big topic when USC big-wigs made it to Austin in September. There were lots of alumni mixers and even a Ryder Cup styled golf event between big shots from each school. The Pac is a cultural fit, and academic fit, and the money will undoubtedly make sense. Now, what will CDC do about the time change???
Welcome aboard M. Washington and Hook em’ Horns 🤘🏽
Couldn’t agree more with you, playblair. No Pac-12!!
Vito Corleone
10-27-2018, 12:45 AM
Pac 12 might be in a bigger mess than the Big 12. Schools can't possibly be happy with how things are working out for them. I'm okay with a move to the Pac because it will further open up California recruiting. I'll take that any day. When you talk about the Big 3 recruiting states, it makes perfect sense to pick a conference that can either open California or Florida. Also keep in mind, two conferences share Florida, only the Pac can call California home.
Also let not forget out west would be much better road trips, Phoenix, SLC, Boulder, LA, San Fran, Portland, and Seattle.
Also, lets not forget, if they divide up the conference like I believe they will, Texas will end up with 7 division games and only two non division games, this means the likelihood is only 1 late start game a year.
Lets pretend for a moment that Texas blOwU Okie Lite and Kansas join the Pack. Texas would likely be in the same division as the 3 big 12 schools plus the Arizona schools, Colorado and Utah. None of those schools are going to have 9:30 kickoffs, that leaves just 2 inter-division games one home and one away. Thus, the likelihood is one late start game per year.

Are you still counting Shepherd?
I don't think it will be more than five in this class.
Yes I am counting Shepherd. They might not take more than five. But IMO there needs to be 17 OL. Three deep plus a couple of extras.
The PAC does not make sense to me at all. California is too far away and the time zone is an issue. Let's not forget we do more than play football. There are other sports to consider as well. If the Big XII (minus 2) collapses then I guess it may be the best option but the Big XII is fine enough as much as I don't want to admit it. The conference isn't what's holding us back... and look how a change to the Big 10 ( a better academic conference than the Big XII) has worked out for Nebraska.

I think the best scenario is maybe the formation of a whole new conference. take about 6 members of the Big 12 and then raid a few other conferences for another 6 and you have two divisions east and west.
I think there are a couple of SEC schools that might listen to the idea of a new conference, maybe some Pac schools as well.
Schools that I think would listen. Arizona, ASU, USCw, UCLA, Utah, BYU, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas and LSU. Any combination of those schools to make up the other 6 schools would be perfect conference. This is especially true if you can get either LSU or USC aboard. I think it would also equal B1G and SEC in TV money.

Horrible loss.
Our wrs dropped too many passes. The D gave too much cushion to wrs. Herman wussed out at the end of the 1st half, not even a hail mary try.
The holding call on 77 was pure bs. It took away a first down and led to a punt. Why we let that qb run on us, I have no clue. It is unacceptable. On his last score, his wr had boyd in an arm lock, but of course the ref ignored the hold.
The onside kick was garbage. Just kick it deep and play good D. You get better potential field position after a punt.
Well now O fucking U is back on top......i am disgusted that I had to wait 2 weeks for this shitfest. We need to win out so we canget OU again.

Herman could have over looked this because Davis, and Boyd were starters, but he didn't because he is actually trying to teach them something, and he is working hard to get rid of the entitlement attitude that has been at Texas as far back as I can remember.

What is it with our defense? We get absolutely zero push unless we try something extravagant. Orlando was worried about third down... it was every down in the first half. You cannot sit back with two freshman corners and Brandon Jones head in the clouds and let a guy pick your softbcoverage to pieces. Seems like Orlando tries to figure out what the O is doing by letting them move down the field. The bend and then break defensive method. Out of all the players on D only Gary Johnson showed Sunday ability and even he has trouble getting off blocks. In the open field he is a terror. He is by far the best athlete on D.
Offense. Our O line got pushed around. Calvin Anderson held on multiple occasions and did not get called, Gundy had every right to be upset. Shackeford cannot move his opposition. Vahe... he may just be a bit slow in the head. Our receivers clearly have trouble getting separation. We are fine with allowing them to produce tough catches every game? Sometimes it’s not gonna happen. How many pass plays are run well enough and or designed well enough to get receivers open other than closely contested quick slants a bubble screens (which went missing this game)?
Having said all that, we again had the mental fortitude to at least give it a go. For a while our defense started defeating a patchwork Ok st. O line. Then they started using the QB on the option and blew us up. Our safties and nickels did not have good games. Our freshman corners literally do not have the ability. Boyce is just not close to ready as I have stated on numerous occasions. K. Boyd had a bad game but he does have talent, it’s just not in his above the neck region.
Sterns and BJ Foster both made some really important tackles that went unnoticed but also found themselves in the wrong places at times. I really like Foster at blowing up the run. That’s a true freshman blowing up Justice Hill.
We have the clear possibility of losing 3 out of 4 conference games, West V, TT, Iowa St. A lose to TT may be inevitable on the road.
Sam did the best he could and again took far too many hits. He gave us a chance.

IMO, this team is exactly who they are. An above average team that has the capability to beat a lot of good teams and an ability to lose to slightly lesser teams. I believe this team has above average to elite talent, but the elite talent is young and inexperienced. We all thought this would be a really good season if they went 9-3. The only thing that changed was the hype as the season has gone on. They played above their ability against OU and it worked. However, this is not Alabama that can play their c game and still win, at least not yet. They just dont have the overall talent on the roster. Even their victories haven't been overly dominant.
This team will be fine and will finish out with 2 or 3 more wins and have an exciting bowl game. Next year is when they can set their sights a little higher. Hell, being in the B12 Chamionship conversation right now is something none of us really thought they would be at...I sure as hell didnt think that, especially after Maryland. They're overachieving and I'm enjoying it. Much better than the previous 5 seasons when we were all hoping they would at least make a bowl game.

Amen right on the money. Only bright spot next year is at RB. Fair OL loses three starters and who is going to replace them. WR will be worse if pro's get a couple [do not look ready to me]
GB will be same adquate but not champship quality. Unless freshmen show something.. No way defense can be better too many starters leaving.

Honestly, I think the only real loss on the OL will be Calvin Anderson. Well, the versatility of Elijah Rodriquez will be missed. I've heard great things about Angilau at the G position so that will be an upgrade over Vahe. Another year of Herb Hand and I think the Oline could be better next year. I dont know if Patrick Hudson will be cleared to play again at this point, so it's probably a safe bet to not count him. Basically, I can see an OL of Okafor, Angilau, Shack, Kerstetter, and Cosmi with Imade, Ghirmai, Reese Moore, and Tyler Johnson as backups. If Hudson is cleared then he is your RG with Kerstetter being the flex backup G/C.
At the WR spot, I think only one of CJ or LJH may declare for the draft. However, I think both will be given lower than expected draft grades which could make them both stay. They both need one more year. CJ could/should be influenced by his dad to stay for one more year of development and finish his degree. LJH is the wild card. He is so versatile that I could see him with a higher grade and he could declare. Eagles, Moore and Woodard should be ready to take one of the positions (Moore in the slot for LJH and Eagles or Woodard for CJ).
The only position on this roster that is a concern for me is LB. I dont know a lot about Ayodele or Overshown to make an assessment. McCulloch will be the only one with experience and I think Roach will spin back down to DE to replace Hager. Ossai should be the B-Backer which would move JM to ILB. I think Coburn will be an upgrade over Nelson to go along with Wilbon. Graham and Bimage will take over for Omenihu. With all that said, I think the Defense will be more athletic and have better overall talent, but less experience.

Healthy skepticism is always the way to go. I never understood the 9-3 predictions, given how other teams were also improving, however there are many bright spots. Defense will be fine with Orlando, more QB competition should produce good results, and another good recruiting class is coming in.

We'll find out a lot in the next month.
Before the season began, we figured the back half would be the easier stretch, but it's turned out to be the opposite (with the exception of OU).
Saturday night could've been a perfect storm of negative with players buying their own hype, or just an inconsistent, somewhat undisciplined team being exposed for what they are.

the a&m achilles heel all season long has been their secondary but it wasn't as apparent over the past couple of games because kentucky is a horrible passing team and SC is not much better. credit to the Mississippi State coaching staff to create a game plan predicated on attacking the secondary. oddly enough, the a&m defense was ranked 2nd in the nation on 3rd down conversions, primarily because they are good against the run (and thus, good on 3rd and short). the bulldogs were great on 3rd and long because they picked up blitzes and attacked the secondary. there's a big reason that a&m has made the secondary such a priority in recruiting. the offense had its worst game of the season. dropped passes, penalties, miscues...it was as if the bye week was wasted other than getting healthy. in that respect, i'd say the same was true of UT. the bye week seemed to hurt them as they were incredibly sloppy and made OSU look a lot better than they actually are. the state of texas football is really, really bad-once again.

he's had an off and on season to this point but has been better as of late. he has even been featured at WR on occassion. early in the year, QBs were even going at him and he was burned deep frequently. part of that was the zone 2 defense steele was running for some really odd reason (steele has a pretty bad head coach at the moment). they have been in man more often as of late and jones has been better since. to this point though, i'd rate his season at 2 1/2 stars. we'll see how he fares in the playoffs.

The SEC bias runs deep once again with 7 teams in the top 20. Other than Alabama the rest of the SEC seems blah this year.

2020 OL Logan Parr of San Antonio O'Connor talks about recruiting for UT (The Football Brainiacs):
“I started recruiting players even before I committed.”
There are three main guys Parr has his sights set on.
“Locally, I’ve been talking to Jaylon Jones a lot. And position wise it’s Chad Lindberg and Jake Majors.”
We’ve talked about the duo of Parr and Chad Lindberg likely being the top two offensive lineman in the state of Texas in 2020.
“I have been talking to Chad pretty much every day for the last year. And with Jake a lot more recently too. It would be really cool to bring those guys along with me.”

Update on WR Elijah Higgins of Austin Bowie before his official visit to Texas this weekend (24/7):
“Nothing really,” Higgins said. “At this point, Texas is really a school that I’m focused on and considering. If I feel it, that’s what It’s going to be. If I don’t then it won’t. That’s really how it’s going to be for me.”
“I kind of expected it,” Higgins said. “I trusted in what Coach (Tom) Herman was preaching to us, and what he tells the players and recruits is that things were going to happen in the right way. What he did at Houston, I knew he was going to end up coming back and doing the same thing at Texas.”
“I definitely am looking for an offense that can put me into spots to do what I do well,” Higgins said. “That’s definitely something that’s intriguing to me at Texas, but like I said before, if I enjoy it and feel that it’s right, that’s where I will be.”

the a&m achilles heel all season long has been their secondary but it wasn't as apparent over the past couple of games because kentucky is a horrible passing team and SC is not much better. credit to the Mississippi State coaching staff to create a game plan predicated on attacking the secondary. oddly enough, the a&m defense was ranked 2nd in the nation on 3rd down conversions, primarily because they are good against the run (and thus, good on 3rd and short). the bulldogs were great on 3rd and long because they picked up blitzes and attacked the secondary. there's a big reason that a&m has made the secondary such a priority in recruiting. the offense had its worst game of the season. dropped passes, penalties, miscues...it was as if the bye week was wasted other than getting healthy. in that respect, i'd say the same was true of UT. the bye week seemed to hurt them as they were incredibly sloppy and made OSU look a lot better than they actually are. the state of texas football is really, really bad-once again.
Yeah.
Thats why I wrote that 3 major recruiting schools in Texas, ATM UT and TCU, all looked horrid. I think ATM played a better team than UT. Herman stated in his presser we faced a really good OK St team/ effort. I put the emphasis on effort. ATM really got punched in the face. We have not faced that this season. That is the one big difference with this year’s team. But I think we have a chance to get mauled by One of the three, Iowa St., W Va, TT. I think TT would be the most likely as it’s away. An Okie State-like game in Lubbock will not be pretty.

SIAP- So, it looks like Tee Martin was demoted from his play calling duties at USC. Which means more than likely he's gone at years end. This could help us with Bru in a round about way. Things are looking good here, as long as we can keep winning down the stretch.

If Texas started to cheat like Ole Miss did, it would be like releasing the Kracken. No one could keep up with Texas spending, Austin area lawyers would be getting in line just to drop dime just for the opportunity to represent these kids 3 years later in the NFL draft.
