Quotes from 2014 CB/S Tony Brown after his trip to Austin (24/7):

“It went great,” he said of his trip. “I really got to see how they practiced and how they worked. I was there to see what the coaches and players did in their meetings. I basically went through the whole deal, just like the players would every day. That was really cool to me. I liked getting to see that side of things. I liked it a lot actually.”

“You see these guys on TV and it doesn’t look that fast,” said Brown. “Then, I go this weekend and am standing right there and I’m blown away by the speed these guys have. You don’t realize how quick they are.”

“Coach (Manny) Diaz loves to blitz and he does it a lot. To be able to do that you have to have two really good man corners, which they said is why they like me a lot,” Brown said. “That was a big compliment and was nice to hear. I watched how their corners played and how they coached them too during the drills. I was impressed with it all really. I like what they do.”

“They’re sitting in a good position with me,” Brown told Hookem.com. “I don’t have any favorites or anything yet. I don’t have a top five or anything, but Texas is in the mix, especially after this weekend. They’re a really good school that I’m interested in and this weekend only helped me think that even more. I could see myself there.”

Latest with 2014 RB/FB Daniel Gresham (24/7):

“I’m going to recruit as much as I can for Texas,” Gresham told Hookem.com. “I already am and I’d say my efforts are going well!”

“I’ve been talking to Jamal (Adams) since last week,” he explained. “I tell him that UT is a great place to be. I also tell him that he needs to make sure to be happy where ever he goes, but that he’ll definitely be happy here at Texas.”

“We’re (Gresham and Donald Catalon) already discussing the future,” said Gresham. “We have talked about staying on each other in practice when we get there. We also plan, by our sophomore year, to be the two headed monster at our position like Texas had last season, after Brown, Bergeron and Gray leave.”

“We’re (Gresham and Demetrius Knox) trying to get down there (Austin) to visit soon,” Gresham said. “This weekend looks bright, but nothing is set just yet.”

“We’re doing big things down in Austin, so hop on board,” exclaimed Gresham.

And quotes from 2015 RB Jacques Patrick of Orlando, FL (24/7):

“I actually call Coach (Major) Applewhite and talk to him when I can,” said Patrick. “I actually called him the other day and he told me that they’ll be catching one of my games this year, but he didn’t know which one.”

“We talk a lot about how they would want to use me,” Patrick said. “He says that, right now, with me not graduating for a few years, I could come in and play early, maybe even as a true freshman with my talent.”

“The first time I watched college football I watched Texas,” he told Hookem.com. “Texas had Vince Young and they played for the national title against USC. That was my first game to watch. From that day on I became a big fan of them. Now that I’ve grown up some, and have that same team already start to recruit me, well, it’s just unbelievable.”

“I get that question a lot actually,” explained Patrick. “I’m currently 6-foot-1 and I just feel like I’m going to play running back for a while anyway. My doctor did say I probably have an inch or two left to grow though, so if for some reason I ended up at 6-foot-5, I wouldn’t mind changing positions. I’ll play anywhere that helps the team out the best.”

Recent quotes from S Vonn Bell (Scout):

"I am still at my seven schools I cut it down to a while back," Bell said. "It is still the same right now."

"I think I am really going to surprise some people when I make my decision," he said with a laugh. "Some think they know, but they will be surprised. Nothing is done yet and I still have a lot to look at and think about, but I think could have a big surprise when everything is done."

More from 2014 CB/S Tony Brown (OrangeBloods):

"It was great. That was my first time being at Texas on a visit as one of the recruits, so it felt really good. It felt like they really liked me, genuinely wanted me a lot," Brown said. "Coach (Duane) Akina is really cool, one of best in business. I was trying to learn as much as I could while I was there in the meeting room. I met guys like Quandre (Diggs), Carrington (Byndom) and Kenny Vaccaro. He's one of the best safeties in football now. It's grueling for those guys and they're really tired in two a days, so I wanted to get a feel of what it's really like there."

"They were going through their one on ones. He was telling them the usual things that I would definitely hear from him if I went there - hand positioning, bring your feet with it, body positioning, where you should be when they're running certain routes, head lean and how they can tip you off, little things like that."

"I got a much better feel for Texas," Brown said. "It helped their chances greatly. This was my first time being around coach Brown like that."

"Vaccaro is really, really good. He's one of the best that I've seen in all the places I've been to. He's good in man coverage. He kind of plays like me, has some swag and is a big hitter," Brown said. "The speed of the practice stood out, especially when they were going no huddle. You watch it on TV but it's different when you're standing right there. You see how fast you have to come back and cover a guy after covering a fade down the field. You have to run back and be ready. And I really liked the uniforms. I saw them last time I was up (at camp), but they looked really good."

Latest with 2014 QB Jerrod Heard (OrangeBloods):

"I got chills and got nervous, but I just knew I was doing something good," Heard said of his feeling upon receiving the offer. "I was very proud."

"He (Bryan Harsin) fits what his quarterback can do," Heard said. "He fits around the quarterback so that's a real big plus."

"The favorite part was the one-on-ones," Heard said. "That was my favorite part. Watching the receivers and DBs and the QBs. It was real good."

"Texas, LSU, and Ohio St. Those are the top three right now. That's the order," Heard said.

"Just being a dominant school where they are," he said. "Ohio St. is probably the best school in the Big 10. In the SEC it's LSU. In the Big 12 it's Texas. Those are big schools and I think I can really fit in at these schools and get very good experience."

"I'm going to talk to my parents tonight and talk about the schools I'm really interested in and hopefully I can make my decision soon," Heard said.

"As a team we didn't have as good a year (last year), so this year we know we're going to come out with a statement and try to get that title," Heard said. "Right now we're working hard. This whole summer, me and the guys have been studying the plays, lifting weights. We're headed on the right track."

More on this...it was a violation of team rules and Roberson is expected to miss all of two-a-days and a few games. His high school coach said they plan for him to return in September if he follows through with what is expected of him. The UT coaches are aware of the situation and all will be well if he cleans things up.

Mack just said in presser no player was hurt badly, although several players will be limited in practice. It's verified Cochran did limp off field in practice, so hopefully just dinged up. If there is somewhere we have absolutely no depth it is OT so hopefully it is nothing major.

Now people are going to say that he is better than Swoopes bc Heard is our latest commit.

It will be years before either are the starting QB (assuming they will be). If Ash becomes a decent QB, he will be starting for 3 years, followed by Brewer who I definitely think will be good and people shouldn't forget about him. With both Swoopes and Heard having several seasons to play before college, and hopefully a redshirt year, they will be different players by the time they see the field here. It doesn't matter who is better, but I guess people have a sour taste about Swoopes because of the Opening (or whatever camp that was).

"It went really well. When I got down there, I got to see the practice live," Adams said. "I got to see them scrimmage, meet a couple players. I talked to coach (Duane) Akina, coach (Mack) Brown. They're all great guys down there, very cool."

"Texas is holding steady. They're still high on my list and always will be."

"They just said to keep working hard, don't let anyone pressure you and make the right decision when it comes time," Adams said. "They said they hope I know they really want me, they think I can be a top DB to come through Texas. When they give those kinds of props, that's a good feeling."

"I talked to those guys (Jerrod Heard and Tony Brown). We took the tour together. We looked at the dorms, the new dorms they'll have in 2013. We had lunch, ate barbecue and had a good time," Adams said.

"I'm not deciding right now. Just know Texas is really high on my list, and I'm really interested," Adams said. "You never know what could happen in the next two years. But I haven't thought about it that much."

KD Cannon #72
Myles Garrett #74
Jerrod Heard #76
Donald Catalon #85

He also mentioned that he had a difficult time not committing to Texas on the spot when offered and he may be in Austin this weekend with his family where they could meet with the coaching staff. They are just MS paint. It's not like they put a sign in College Station that says "This is Big 12 Country" with a Texas player on it or anything like that.

Those billboards are all over the place. It's part of a new billboard campaign that A&M launched. They were placed in Dallas, Houston, Austin and many other cities.

The Texas Longhorns thought maybe after four years, receiver DeSean Hales had finally signaled his arrival with a strong performance in the spring.

As it turned out, that was just a prelude to the senior's departure. With two weeks to go before the start of the season, Hales has decided to quit the team.

He is the 19th player to be removed, voluntarily or not, from the Texas roster in the past 15 months.

Rivals 5* article: http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1398550

A'Shawn Robinson is now a 5* after moving up to #22 in latest Rivals rankings.

Swoopes dropped down to a 4*.

"With Swoopes, a lot of people felt we would simply free-fall him down the rankings, but he only fell nine slots overall," Farrell said. "Some thought we might move him to athlete as well, but he's going to be a quarterback in college. Swoopes is still pretty much what we thought he was, a very raw quarterback with great athletic upside. However, his field vision and mechanics really made us re-consider that fifth star and drop him down a peg. He's still a special prospect with an amazing ceiling, but he needs a lot of coaching."

Update on 2014 WR Cameron Sims of Monroe, LA from 24/7. He's currently ranked #104 in the country by that network.

“I’ve actually been talking to them some recently,” said Sims. “Coach (Stacey) Searels, my recruiter, and I last talked about two weeks ago. We basically just talked about how I feel about this upcoming season and about me playing both wide receiver and free safety. We also talked about offers since they’re offering 2014 players now.”

“They’re planning on offering me,” Sims told Hookem.com. “They said that they are going to come see me play first. Soon after that they should offer.”

“Right now my top four is LSU, Texas, Washington and then Alabama,” said the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder. “In that order too. But if Texas offers me, then it will be a tie for my number one school, even if LSU offers too.”

“After visiting Texas and Alabama I just think that Texas was the better school,” Sims explained. “They have a better campus and I also think that they utilize their wide receivers better than Alabama does. That’s why they jumped up and have a chance to be my number one.”

“I really like LSU,” he said. “They have great fan support. They support the team day in and day out. They’re crazy and wild over their team. I also like the fact that my family can come to every home game because it’s not far.”

“Their (Texas) facilities are much better than LSU’s,” said Sims. “I like their weight room, locker room, stadium and everything better because it’s nicer. I also think the campus is a lot nicer than the LSU campus. I like all those things about Texas.”

“Right now I’m going to take it slow,” Sims said. “Probably after my season is over, sometime in January or February, I’ll make my mind up and pick a school.”

Update on OL/DL Andrew Billings from 24/7...he did NOT make it to Austin this weekend with his parents and it seems UT is losing some momentum with Baylor rising fast. His parents loved everything about Texas when they visited in June, but it could come down to them wanting him at a smaller school that's closer to home. He remains in consistent contact with the staff and an unofficial to the UT campus before his commitment has not been ruled out, but this one could come down to the last school he visits. As of right now, that school is Baylor and they're supposedly recruiting him the hardest.

“I know he and his folks loved the place when they went down there,” the source said of Texas. “I think it might be too big. I can't say that for sure, but for whatever reason they've slipped back a little bit over the last couple of weeks.”

“It was great to get the offer,” Watkins said. “I grew up following the Texas program, so to get that offer is a dream come true. I didn't think it would happen this early, but I'm glad it did.”

“I'm just trying to keep everyone even and really look at all of my options,” Watkins said. “I'm only a junior, and I've got plenty of time to decide. I want to make the best decision I can and make the right decision.”

“I want to go to some Texas games,” Watkins said. “I want to try and see them as much as I can.”

Briles plays the small town kids like a fiddle. Everything that worries them about playing in a big city, I bet they're hearing from the Baylor staff. I hate negative recruiting, but it's part of the game. It's on the Texas staff to correct falsehoods.

Just a heads up that August 29th is the deadline for any Texas player that wants to transfer without losing a year of eligibility. For example, QB Garrett Gilbert should technically be a senior this year at SMU because he played in two games last season, but he was given his junior year back by the NCAA because of the shoulder surgery he had once he lost the starting job.

The roster looks pretty steady going into 2012, but the guys below stand out as attrition candidates even if nothing happens this season. I do think Hills will finish out his career:

RB Jeremy Hills (SR)
WR Bryant Jackson (SO)
OL Garrett Greenlea (FR)

LB Aaron Benson (SO)
K Will Russ (SO)

We'll probably get down there late morning. I'm not sure where we will be but I have a buddy of mine that works with me who will be a bit a "tour guide" for me and my other buddy who is coming with me. He goes to several games a year and knows a lot of people there and the area well. I'm sure we'll just wander around a bit until he catches up with us to help us get the lay of the land.

On an unrelated note, I got to meet Dalton today. His dad brought him by the hospital to talk to his mom and she told me I could come out say hi if I wanted to. That is one big ass teenager. Really hard to believe the kid is a freshman. Not sure if I've mentioned it before, but there is a bit of a connection with his family and mine. I went to high school with his uncle and Dalton has been knocking heads with my nephew Josiah Johnson for the past couple of seasons, who is a senior and will be the starting QB for Lindale this year.

Final install situational scrimmage tomorrow night. Will be an entire walk through for game day. From meal, warm ups, entry into stadium, etc.
LHN not involved tomorrow or Friday. Guys off on Sunday. Game week press conference on Monday. Practice Tues, Wed, Thurs.
Preseason injuries have been less this year than past seasons due to conditioning. Credit to Maddog Madden and Coach Wylie. Freshman are more ready to play now than ever. Injury rumors are hard to manage due to social media.
Injuries:
Anthony Fera – groin pull
Jaxon Shipley – slight pull (doesn’t say what)
Mike Davis – a “little” tweak of his ankle; no update on scheduled amputation. Just because a young man wears a boot doesn’t mean it is a serious injury.
Depth chart is announced to players today in team and player meetings. Earlier than prior years.
We’re going to play the guys who will help us win the game.
Depth chart handed out to media during presser.
here’s the list:
Daje Johnson suspended for first game – violation of team rules.
Josh Turner starts on 4 of 5 special teams.
Wyoming game and New Mexico State game on LHN at 7:00 p.m.
Questions:
Depth Chart …
Quarterback position has come a long way. Case has come a long way and is one of the team’s best leaders. But Ash will start.
Mack said that guys will be played according to a plan. One of the worst things that happened to him while playing at Vandy is the coach forgot to put him in during a predetermined series.

My first thought when I didn't see his name on the depth chart. Either that or the dude simply still sucks at blocking. Hopefully he hangs in there because he's so young and is still figuring it out.

The other big thing is there's no "or" listed next to the QBs. Hopefully this means Ash will be the sole guy unless it's a blowout or he completely bombs. I'd like to see the position treated as it was in the Holiday Bowl moving forward.

That said Texas DB top targets in state for 2014 are Tony Brown and Nick Watkins, then probably Nick Harvey and Jamal Adams. Also going after Ed Paris at S although he is probably ending up at LSU. I also believe you may have another 1-2 out of state targets.

It is a sick DB class for 2014.

It is no secret that Collins has disdain for Texas because they showed no love to him his sophomore year. I think had that not been the case they would have recruited him and likely offered him at some point. But they realized battle was already lost because Sumlin has been on him hard. I think most years we would recruit a player like Collins hard but there is major competition for being top DB in state.

Others have already mentioned they don't mind seeing stuff like this in the thread, since we pursue some of the same recruits (and it's interesting to see who goes where regardless -it's not like the Spurs board has a lot going on right now anyway).

Put me on your 'ignore' list if you suffer an aneurysm whenever you see an occasional A&M post. Or continue your impotent bitching, whatever. I'm not stopping.

Exactly right I have no problem with it if it is a recruiting battle between both schools, but it wasn't. I'm also pretty sure there is an sec thread on this board now.

Cameron Echols-Luper committed to Texas A&M yesterday, and today 2014 (and possible 5-star) CB Cedric Collins committed to A&M.

http://v4.texags.com/Stories/5996

Thats a huge get, Cedric Collins is the man and one of the top guys in the state. Congrats, I do think that this is newsworthy, we might've not offered him but he was definitely a guy everyone who follows recruiting in the state of Texas had an eye on. Since Texas wasn't going to get him I'm glad Aggies did, not OU, not Baylor, not TCU or any other in the Big XII is somewhat of a win for Texas.

I don't know why Texas fans are so negative when Aggies get a good recruit, take away as many high profile players that we aren't going to get.

Regarding Daje, word is the coaching staff was not happy with his dismissive attitude at times, being inattentive, and giving lip to coaches. Message to Daje and team is it won't be tolerated and time for attitude adjustment or ride the pine.

Crazy to follow all the recent 5* RBs from Texas in recent years that all transferred back to Texas (Aaron Green, Lache Seastruck and Brandon Williams).

Most recent news is Brandon Williams (who transferred from OU to A&M) will have to sit out this year as expected. He petitioned for a waiver to be able to play this year at A&M although that seemed a longshot so no real surprise.

Am really curious how these guys do when they get back on the field considering the twists and turns for all of them.

That sounds about right. I didn't think it was anything like drugs but possibly something small that he did repeatedly to force the staff's hand. He's obviously been out of line if he gets suspended for the first game of his career. Hopefully that's a much needed wake-up call for him because the dude might have been listed as a co-starter for Wyoming.

+1. For whatever reason, Texas didn't recruit the kid and I don't think they've even had contact with him since the spring game. However, that doesn't take away from the fact that he's a solid CB and that's a huge addition for A&M in many ways. Their secondary has been a weak link for a long time so they need playmakers there and he may end up in the top two or three guys they sign for 2014 (assuming it sticks).

Update on S Erik Huhn (OrangeBloods):

"In the back of your mind it was like 'That's where I want to go, so you always have that in the back of your mind," Huhn said. "But I knew if they (Texas) didn't offer me I was going to have to make a decision to go somewhere else. I was really looking hard into the other schools I was considering if Texas did not work out."

"Coach Akina came down to our school a couple of times and told me he really liked me," Huhn said. "He wanted to see if I could play man coverage so he asked me to go up to the camp. That's where it happened. I went up there and showed them I could do it and they offered me."

"It really wasn't hard at all (to commit to Texas). That's where I knew I wanted to go for a while and once I got the opportunity to go that's where I decided to go," Huhn said. "Basically it was so close to home and it's one of the best programs in the nation and they're always going to be good. My dad went there for a while and he told me he loved it."

"It's been really good (since committing to Texas). Everyone comes up to me and tells me they're really happy for me and I'm really happy for myself. So it's been really good," Huhn said.

"We just have to work hard and stay focused. Just the fact that everyone on the team … all we want is to win another one. So we have the drive and everyone is looking forward to it," Huhn said. "We seniors feel like it's our team this year and we have to take responsibility for it. For everything that happens, we can't fall back on anyone. It's all on you. That's the mindset we've been going with this year."

According to OrangeBloods, OL/DL Andrew Billings is seriously considering pushing back his commitment date. He originally wanted to have everything done by September 1st, but it sounds like he's simply not ready yet:

"He talked to his family a little bit. He wants to try to get this done before the beginning of his season, but that may not happen," said a source close to his recruitment. "That's been his goal all along, but he feels like it's too tough of a decision to rush through it."

"He's just kind of in a holding pattern. Now that practice and everything has started, it's been taking up all his time until late at night," the source said. "That what he's looking at now."

"He and his family are discussing him possibly going to see some games. He hasn't figured out which ones. It really that just kind of came up the other day so it's still fresh. They have to look at his schedule. I know the first week of the season he plays on Saturday, so that won't happen."

"He wants to see a game-day environment. It's getting tough, so he thought 'Why not just take a couple visits, help me sort it out a little more?' He wanted to get it done early, didn't want to take it into season. But it's going to be a tougher decision than he thought. He's thinking he may go to a few games."

"I'm sure one will be a Texas game. He's never been to one. I can't confirm that for sure, but if he's going to a game, that will be high on his list," our source said.

"His answer is pretty clear. He just wants to play four more years of football. Offensive is fine with him," the source said.

"It's tough for him because those are some really good schools," we're told.

Texas AD can't get Longhorn Network at home (http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/335270-texas-ad-cant-get-longhorn-network-at-home)

University of Texas president Bill Powers and athletic director DeLoss Dodds were supposed to report to their board of regents this week on the status of the Longhorn Network. Instead they reversed fields and decided to skip it. Powers told reporters in Austin the timing wasn't right to publicly discuss the ESPN-owned network because of on-going negotiations that have the potential to elevate LHN from a rumor to a bona fide option in more than six million wired homes across the state of Texas. Let's assume then there isn't much coming down the pipeline anytime in the next couple of weeks. That means cable carrying heavyweight providers like Time Warner and Comcast and Charter will continue to ignore LHN. Ditto satellite's DirecTV and Dish Network. AT&T U-verse is on the board of dissenters as well. In other words, the overwhelming majority of cable subscribers in the state won???t get the network whose two marquee events of the year are scheduled for the next two Saturday nights. The Texas-Wyoming football season opener and the Texas-New Mexico follow-up belong to LHN. On a personal note, Dodds reported he cannot get LHN at his Austin area home. As for the upcoming Wyoming and New Mexico games, Dodds said they likely would not have made the cut when big-time network partners ABC, ESPN and Fox Sports Net divvied up the schedule. Most likely, he said, under existing contracts they would have been pay-per-view affairs.

A new name to remember for the 2014 class is OL Ty Barrett of Dallas Skyline. He had a great performance at the Rivals Underclassmen Challenge in DeSoto this summer and UT has a nice "in" with his mother. Quotes from Barrett (24/7):

“I actually just heard from Coach (Bruce) Chambers not too long ago,” Barrett told Hookem.com. “He wanted me to come down to one of their practices a few weeks ago, when they had two-a-days. I really wanted to go, but the only problem was that we had two-a-days as well, so obviously I couldn’t make it.”

“My mom really likes Texas a lot just like I do,” said Barrett. “She and Coach Chambers actually go way back from when they were both at Carter High School. So they’re always joking back and forth about me going there and her doing her best to persuade me to go there. Obviously with them two being really good friends, she wants me to head down there and would love for me to go there. We’ll see what happens though.”

“I’m going to hurry up and try to get back down there for sure,” he said. “I’m trying to set that up. I speak to Coach Chambers often so I’m sure we’ll get it figured out. I always call and talk to him just to see how he’s doing and everything, so it won’t be a problem.”

“I’ll be visiting Texas on an official, most likely during the West Virginia game weekend,” the four-star receiver told Hookem.com. “I’ll also most likely see Notre Dame, UCLA, Arkansas and a few others, with some of those being either official or unofficial visits.”

Per 24/7, Texas could be looking at bringing WR Torii Hunter, Jr. (son of the MLB star) in for a game this fall. He didn't really arrive on the recruiting scene until his solid performance at The Opening in Oregon, but he's quietly collected several offers and seen his ranking increase significantly:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Torii-Hunter%20Jr.-120608

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fA66jMrW0-k

“Texas recently got in touch with my coach actually,” explained Hunter. “They told my head coach they were interested in me and would like to get in touch with me. It was (wide receivers coach) Darrell Wyatt that contacted them. So I got his info and called him back. Since then we have been talking.”

“I’m trying to figure out when I’ll get down there to see Texas,” Hunter said. “It most likely won’t be an official visit, as I have those planned out. But I’m hoping to come down for an unofficial visit sometime, but I don’t know when yet. It really all depends on when I can get a ride down there from my friend and everything like that. I know we’ll get down there though, I’m just not sure when it will happen.”

“They were a team I watched since being a little kid,” Hunter told Hookem.com. “I remember seeing guys like Vince Young and Colt McCoy quarterback. Since I’m a receiver, that type of thing stands out to me for sure. I like everything I’ve seen from them on TV as well. They also have good players and good coaches. I’m definitely interested in them, but obviously I want to check out everything for myself once I get down on campus.”

“Coach Wyatt didn’t really talk about an offer or anything,” said Hunter. “I’m not really sure what they’ll do when it comes to that. I guess they’ll continue to evaluate me and take it from there once I get on campus. We’ll see what happens.”

Mack intimated that sometimes Texas moves on from a player/s...Hall & Prevot are examples of such players.

Hall was visting aggy & Baylor on the downlow.

They will not be Horns...period

According to Inside Texas, OL/DL Andrew Billings has decided to push back his announcement date while also narrowing his list down to three schools: Baylor, TCU and Texas. He's hoping to make his final decision the week of September 21st (Waco High's bye week). It sounds like he will make one last trip to Austin between now and that date. That's obviously great news considering it's not clear which school is really in the lead right now, but the vibe is Baylor with the slight advantage.

More on WR Torii Hunter, Jr....he has been invited by the Texas staff to the Wyoming game this weekend, but he's not expected to make it in. He says he wants to attend a game at some point and plans on riding down with OL/DL Jake Raulerson who he's known since junior high. No word on where UT is currently at with a potential offer but worth noting that Hunter could go the baseball route if a good enough opportunity presents itself.

Latest with WR Jacorey Warrick from OrangeBloods. He will be in town for the Wyoming game:

"I love (the wildcat). I'm still working on reading the defensive ends and linebackers, but I love having the ball in my hands," Warrick said. "On defense, I think I'm a pretty solid defender. I'm very confident at cornerback. From playing wide receiver, I can kind of tell the tendencies and in man coverage, I feel pretty good. This season, I'll get to go against some other wide receivers and really test my skills out."

"We (Warrick and the Texas coaches) chat rather often. I'll be at the game this weekend. After that, I may go to some others, but it just depends on when we have a game and when they have a game."

"I feel great. feel I'm very comfortable with my commitment. No other schools have even crossed my mind. I'm excited to be a Longhorn, ready to join them after my senior season."

"I call about once a week, every two weeks, just to see how things are going. I usually talk with coach Giles and I'll shoot coach Wyatt a call every once in a while," Warrick said. "They just tell me they're happy to have me as a Longhorn and to keep working hard this season."

"I watch it (how many WRs Texas is recruiting) a little bit, not too much. I've gotten to know Jake Oliver a lot and I feel really comfortable with him. If it's just the two of us, we'll get the job done. If anyone else is added, we'll welcome them aboard."

"I definitely want to score at least 20 touchdowns," Warrick said. "Yardage wise, that doesn't really matter. I just want to put the ball in the end zone a lot. All types - I just get the ball in the end zone."

Recent interview with 2014 LB Hoza Scott

A&M, Texas, LSU top 3 in that order

On A&M

"It's because it's close to home and it's in the SEC so I don't have to go too far to play with the big boys," Scott said. "I've been going there a lot. Why go so far when you can play at home in the SEC?"

On Texas

"They're still No. 2 and when I've been going there, they make me feel like that's my home already," Scott said of the Longhorns. "[The offer] made me feel good because that's making me think that they really want me."

On LSU

When it comes to LSU, Scott said "The coaches are real cool, the players, I got along with them. Coach Les Miles is real cool. He kept it 100 with me, telling me, 'If you come here, we'll take care of you.' "

“You’re playing for THE school,” Southern said. “No matter what people want to say or agree about, kids in this state — yeah, there are people that want to grow up Baylor Bears or Texas A&M Aggies — but when you think football, you’re going to think the University of Texas first.”

Note on WR Devon Allen from OrangeBloods. He official visit to Texas is scheduled for the West Virginia game on October 6th:

"He likes Stanford, but I get the feeling that's because he's been there a few times and knows the coaches," we're told. "If he has a great visit in Austin, UT could jump them. He wants this over with."

And a quote from Allen himself...

"If I see what I want on these visits, I might just commit then and there," Allen said. "That's what's going to happen. If I go to a school and I really like it, there isn't much more thinking to do."
