Recent quotes from DE Bryce Cottrell:
"I always kind of knew in the back of my mind I'd switch because Texas was always my dream school," Cottrell said. "Plus Texas needed defensive ends to play early, it's a better education, it just seemed like a better long-term solution."
"Every one of my family likes Texas too," Cottrell said.
"The spring game really fun. It was kind of cool seeing the Ricky Williams statue," Cottrell said. "I was watching the d-line and they were playing really well. The defense did outstanding."
"I've been running track, lifting with the workout program they gave me at Texas. I've seen a lot of progress. I was 225 pounds but I'm back up to 233. I recently ran my 40 and got a 4.56 laser-timed," Cottrell said.
"I can drop some, but for Texas they want me to play defensive end. But with Manny Diaz you never know what you'll be doing," Cottrell said.
"They told me (at the spring game) that I'm doing fine and keep up the good work," Cottrell said. "They told me to come in ready, that I'll have a great chance of playing as a true freshman. They said if I understand the playbook, I'll be playing."
"I'm really excited to be a part of the Longhorn family and everything. I'm really looking forward to it," Cottrell said.

And quotes from DE Torshiro Davis who was also at the UT spring game:
"We talked about the same things as when they recruited me. They said with Jeffcoat out, they don't really have anyone to take his spot. They were saying, with him out with the injury, I'm going to need to be ready to come in and play."
"I wasn't trying to gain weight. I wanted to stay at about 225 for track season. I really don't know how I'm putting on the weight (he's up to 235)," Davis said. "I'm keeping my speed though so it will be good for me when I get to Texas."
"I really just want to get better, get ready for the season. I don't want it to be a surprise for me when I get there," Davis said. "I don't want to get down there and be looking like I'm out of it."
"I'm very confident. There's never been a problem with my confidence," he said. "Now I just have to back it up."

Quotes from WR Ra'Shaad Samples on his injury and future plans (24/7):
“I’m really staying motivated by people telling me what they think I can or cannot do or how fast or slow I will come back,” Samples said. “The last time I got hurt it was really bad. I broke my fibula, tibia, ankle bone and had some minor ligament damage. That was my sophomore year but I came back so much faster and stronger. I actually had more strength in my broken ankle from rehabbing it so well. I just like to prove people wrong so I guess I’ll have to do it again.”
“My dad was telling me about how things can change,” he said. “For me, I’m so hard-headed about it. At first, I didn’t understand because I was a little stubborn and angry about hurting my ankle. He was telling me coaches are still calling and wanting to honor my scholarship. Me being so hard-headed, so one-minded and aggressive, I was like, ‘It don’t matter. If they want me, they want me.’ I feel good though. Every school I’ve talked to has told me it’s cool. I would be hurt if something like that does happen but luckily it hasn’t.”
“Honestly, I played around with it as soon as I got hurt,” he said. “I thought, ‘Hey maybe I should commit.’ The type of person I am, maybe it blinked in my mind, but the type of mind that I have, being so hard-headed, I was just thinking the exact opposite. I was thinking that I’m going to get back so I don’t have to commit early. I don’t want to commit because I’m scared. I want to get back and show people that I’m still good, I can still do what I think I can do, God blessed me with talent that I’m still going to work hard and show people what they saw in me before.”
“Well, Texas Tech coach Sonny Cumbie and I talk so much,” he said. “We always talk so it wasn’t like [we talked] just because I hurt my ankle. We just have that kind of relationship. We talk all the time. I talked to Coach (David) Beaty from (Texas) A&M, in fact, I need to give him a call tonight. I talked with him and the USC coaches. Coach (Bruce) Chambers wrote me a letter. My recruiting coordinator got in touch with Coach Chambers, too. Ohio State is showing me a lot of support.”
“I’m planning on Ohio State soon,” he said. “That’s all I have on my mind right now is to get up to Ohio State and visit. I’m trying to get this plane ticket booked.”

Catching up with WR Marcus Johnson. Really excited about this kid:
"I've been occupied with going to track, then I do the UT workout every day. It's still like football season," Johnson said. "I get home at about 6:30 every day, but I've been busy making sure I stay in shape."
"You can't really simulate that tempo. I work out by myself, so it's kind of hard to simulate but I try to get a feel of it and go pretty fast," Johnson said. "But I know it will never be the same until I'm actually up there. Track has been one of the biggest things that has helped. I'm running track and then lifting, so I'm getting speed and conditioning work in."
"I know how intense he is. I remember doing (the high school boot camp), sometimes people would just be throwing up, dog tired. The biggest thing they emphasized was intensity, going hard every rep. They wanted us fast paced, going hard. If you weren't, they made you start over. So I feel like my high school coaches helped, but I know UT is going to be different. I just hope I can adjust to it quickly."
"I feel like I'm getting stronger, getting bigger, still maturing," Johnson said. "(Wylie) is going to help me out so much when I get there."
"He called me right after, when I left the game. He was busy, but he just told me he can't wait to get me up there and they need help at wide receiver," Johnson said. "I'm going to continue to work hard, get up there and be prepared, be ready."
"This is a golden opportunity for me to come up there, run some with the second team. He said they need an immediate impact from me, Cayleb (Jones), Kendall (Sanders) and Daje (Johnson). We just have to keep pushing ourselves."
"Now I have the opportunity, I want to do everything I can to take advantage and be successful on the field and in the classroom, use all the resources that Texas has to offer. I still think of it sometimes and have to pinch myself."

-Bell's high school starts spring practice on May 9th and UT is expected to make their two allowed visits during the evaluation period

"I just started my job on March 30 so that's been keeping me busy. Then I train with a guy a lot, so I've been staying pretty busy," Johnson said.
"I've been working out with him since my sophomore year. I feel like I'm getting bigger. I usually work out after I get off work, around 9 p.m. For the most part, I feel like I'm getting bigger, faster, just getting ready."
"I'm not nervous really at all. UT has a lot of resources, so I'm just going to use that to my advantage. I'm definitely not nervous at all on the football side," Johnson said. "Before I head down there, I just want to stay in good condition to pass the conditioning tests that we'll do. I'm looking forward to working with coach (Bennie) Wylie."
"My impression is that things looked solid," Johnson said of the spring game. "They told before I really signed that I'll have a chance to play early. I'll be at every spot on offensive side, kind of a slash running back. I'll do whatever - utility back. punt return, kick return, running back, safety, whatever."
"I didn't know right away. There was still some thinking about going to TCU. It really hit me on my visit. It was just a gut feeling. One night in my hotel, I decided (Texas) was where I wanted to go. On Saturday morning (of his visit), I called TCU and said I was switching. Then it was official once I was in Mack Brown's office," Johnson said.

Samples is a huge prospect for several reasons.
Obviously, he's a playmaker, but even more importantly, the dude is just intense and plays like he has something to prove. I saw Samples at a camp and you can tell he's a guy that pushes the envelope and was just busting it every single opportunity regardless of if people were watching or weren't. And he had a reputation amongst the players of being a competitor. Love to see that in a player.
Let's not forget his father Reginald Samples is the coach of Skyline. I wouldn't think it would be wish to brush him off just yet.
But that doesn't even matter, he is being recruited by everybody for a reason.

That's correct. The spring eval period starts officially on the 15th of April but the coaches aren't allowed to be on the road on Sundays, so everyone should venture out on Monday. Just a reminder that coaches are allowed to see a player in person two separate times before May 31st.
For UT, an obvious answer, but I like both CB Antwuan Davis and CB Maurice Smith to commit before school ends. I know Smith mentioned recently that he'd like to push his timeline back until his senior season but I don't really buy that. I'm honestly more interested to see the new names that surface during this time and who the staff will take a longer look at. Like we talked about last night, Massington's track times are enough to make Wyatt do a double-take.

From Eric Nahlin over at IT on Von Bell --
I just got off the phone with Rossville (Ga.) head coach Mark Mariakis and he had some interesting but not Earth shattering things to say.
I'll bullet point them:
- Vonn had a great time at each school on his recent 'World Tour'. He liked the coaching staffs at each school and felt comfortable at every stop
- The way Vonn talks about UT, it really stands out. There's some emphasis there
- Bell felt like he fit right in with the competitive environment at Texas
- Coach Mariakis said that he's supposed to meet with the Bell's in the coming days at which point he expects Vonn to start narrowing his list down. He added that he's not 100% sure if Vonn will start to shave schools from his list
- Mariakis does expect Texas to make Bell's top five
- Spring practice starts on May 9th and runs through the 24th and Texas is expected to visit twice
- The Bell's are fully aware of UT's success with inundating the NFL will defensive back talent. Not only has the UT staff informed them, but so has Mariakis
- Coach reiterated that he would be absolutely shocked if UT didn't make Bell's top five
Thoughts: From the very first time I talked to Coach Markiakis I felt Texas stood a good chance of pulling the talented safety despite his SEC area code. Since then I've talked to Bell and Mariakis again and I feel just as confident, if not more so.
I'm not saying Bell ends up at Texas. I'm saying UT has just as good a chance as anyone, even perceived neighborhood SEC bullies.
I should have more after Coach M. has a chance to sit down with Vonn and his family.

I don't see UT having to go that route, but if they did, you wonder how Luke would respond since he left Austin without an offer. I don't think he was too thrilled about that even if he knew beforehand that was a possibility. I've read that Luke isn't as big as he's listed, so I wonder if that went into Akina's decision once he saw him in person.

Quotes from 2014 DE/LB Hoza Scott of La Porte who attended an A&M scrimmage this weekend (24/7):
“I was supposed to go to their (UT) spring game but I had to work,” he said. “I kind of like them but now that A&M is in the SEC, that makes me want to go there even more now, and pushing me away from [Texas]. I’ve been talking with Major Applewhite and he wants me to come up there to visit soon. He’s a good coach so I’ll probably make it up there eventually. I still like them though.”
"A&M, Alabama, LSU, Florida and Texas,” he said.
“I like the way he runs practice,” Scott said of the Aggie’s new head coach. “I like how they got the music going during workouts and they’re really work on conditioning. Most people think if you’re tired in the fourth quarter it’s your legs. It’s really not your legs, it's your hips. Coach (Kevin) Sumlin knows what he’s talking about.”
“The scrimmage showed me a lot,” Scott added. “I like to blitz a lot and that’s all they were doing at the linebacker position, just bringing them, and that was very interesting to me. I talked with Matt Davis too before the scrimmage. He was cool, just telling me that he can’t wait for me to sign with A&M.”
“I really want to play in the SEC because it’s like a baby NFL,” he said. “I want to play where the competition is at.”
“LSU, Alabama, Florida or somewhere in California,” he said of the schools currently at the top of his mind. “I’ve been watching those schools a lot growing up and they’ve all been doing real good. Those are the top five I would like to go to if I had the chance.”
“Coach McGaughey (LSU) was saying they are very interested and want me to visit too,” he said.

Read on OrangeBloods this morning that QB Garrett Gilbert is taking an unheard of 27 hours this semester so he can graduate before enrolling at SMU. If he enters as a graduate student, he doesn't have to sit out a year and I believe their depth chart is wide open. Anyway, that's an insane amount of course work if true. Hopefully one of those classes counts for nine hours or something.

ESPN 150 is out. Texas with eight guys.
http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/playerrankings
Isn't it "only" seven guys? Ricky Seals-Jones, Tyrone Swoopes, Darius James, Jake Raulerson, Kent Perkins, Jacorey Warrick and A'Shawn Robinson?
I think it's a joke that Jake Oliver isn't in it. He is ranked as the 42nd best receiver, according to ESPN. I know he will play the Army All-Star game, but seriously?!

My bad. Obviously counted someone twice.
If you go to the state rankings, Prevot at #37 in Texas is criminal.
Oliver is a notable absence considering his production this year (108 catches, 1,637 yards, 23 TDs).

"Coach (Oscar) Giles called late Sunday night," Prevot said. "I wasn't by my phone so I called him back and we talked. We set up a calling schedule. I'll call him every Wednesday or something."
"Me and coach Giles thought of a date, around May 10," Prevot said of a possible visit. "It's still kind of up in the air right now."
"It's the same ones as before (Prevot's leaders) - LSU, Texas and Texas A&M," Prevot said. "I've only visited those schools, so I don't know about any others right now. I might go to Oklahoma State this summer."
"I still play the same game, but some teammates try to move around faster, get into it more," he said. "I'm really just trying to improve more on my technique and using my hands a lot more. It's more repetition. And our coach has gone to some camps to learn techniques with the hands."
"Actually, Texas is one of my top schools so far," Prevot said. "Austin is just a great place. They have a lot of events in Austin, so many things you can do as a college student."
"I'm thinking of taking my visits and then committing early during the season," Prevot said. "I want to take my official visits, really map out the schools, see what they're offering, see how it is at the school."

UT press release on the transfers:
Austin -- Texas sophomore tight end Darius Terrell and junior defensive back Eryon Barnett have elected to transfer, they confirmed on Tuesday.
Terrell, a 6-3, 238-pounder from DeSoto, Texas (DeSoto HS), played in nine games at UT. He registered one reception, in 2011 as a redshirt freshman.
"The University of Texas is a great place," Terrell said. "Its diversity makes it unique to most other colleges in America. Unfortunately, things didn't work out for me, but I'm thankful for Coach (Mack) Brown, Coach (Bruce) Chambers and the coaching staff for blessing me with the opportunity to experience Texas and all of the great people and opportunities it exposed me to. I formed a strong and hopefully lifetime bond with my teammates, and while I’ll miss them all, I’ll still be rooting for them. I know Texas has great things in store for the future and will be on top again soon. At the same time, I also look forward to taking the next step in my life and doing what I feel is best for me in pursuing my dreams elsewhere."
Barnett, a 6-2 195-pounder from Euless, Texas (Trinity HS) missed the 2011 season with a knee injury. He played in nine career games, mostly on special teams.
"The Longhorn nation has been good to me," Barnett said. "Coach Brown and Coach (Duane) Akina are great coaches and have helped me become a better man and helped me as a player. I'm going miss my teammates and UT, but I decided I need a new and fresh start."
“We appreciate the efforts of both Darius and Eryon during their time at Texas,” Head Coach Mack Brown said. “We understand their reasons and support their decisions. We wish them the best of luck in the future.”

Quotes from ATH Stanvon Taylor after speaking with Akina over the phone:
"Really, he (Akina) was just informing me that they can officially call us juniors now. He was just letting me know that he was making sure he called his top recruits to let them know they're the recruits being called on the first day."
"He was just telling me he was going to try to come down in May to see me at the school. He was telling me how everything was going, how their spring game went."
"I was glad. I didn't know. I had a missed call and it was from coach Akina. I told my mom that he had called and she said 'I don't think he's supposed to call.' Then I checked my voicemail. He let me know that it was the first day. When I called him back, told me about it."
"Before we got off the phone, he said he really wanted me to know they're interested. He said before offering, he'd like to come meet me in person, see how I am in person before taking that step."
"(Akina and my mom talked about me coming down. I don't really know the details of how the conversation went, but I know my mom does want to come down and check it out. We may come down sometime this spring and maybe for a camp too," Taylor said.
"Notre Dame said they were going to stop through and see me. They said they watched my film and want to see me in person. That was my first time ever talking to them, so I really didn't know they were interested," Taylor said. "With Kansas, it was the safeties coach. He was telling how their program has been the past couple years with coaches fired, how the program was going now with new coaching staff. He was telling me how they're looking to recruit the program, that he's going to get close with me during the recruiting process."
"I guess the schools that I've started to base things off are the schools that I have offers from so far. I would say probably my top four would be Kansas State, Arkansas, Texas Tech and Tulsa," Taylor said. "Houston is in there too."
"I've always really been interested in them (Texas). They're always at the top. It's just a thing of getting an offer from them," Taylor said. "I'm kind of waiting on that before getting too much into it."
"I just want to show everyone that comes out that I haven't changed, if anything I've gotten better," Taylor said. "I'll play wide receiver and corner. Most schools are recruiting me as a corner."

Quotes from 2014 LB Josh Walker of Gilmer:
"Great, it was amazing (the UT spring game). The atmosphere was just extravagant," Walker said of the trip to Texas. "I met the offensive line coach (Stacy Searels), the linebacker coach (Manny Diaz), Mack Brown, and Coach (Ken) Rucker. Coach Brown was real with what he stating, and the linebacker coach was also real with what he was saying. It felt like I was at home back at Gilmer. They remind me of our coaching staff here."
"The campus, the fan support, the history, coaches and again, I felt at home," he said.
"1. Texas A&M, 2. Texas, 3. Oklahoma, 4. LSU, 5. Baylor," Walker said. "Texas A&M is No. 1 because it's SEC and I love the SEC style and the atmosphere at College Station is kind of like Austin. Texas I told you (about the spring game visit). Oklahoma has been my favorite college for a while. It's fun in Oklahoma and the tradition. LSU, kind of like A&M, the defense and SEC. Baylor, because it's close to home. I love the fan base and their defensive style. They are all great academic schools also."
"The spring is going great," Walker said. "Some goals for this upcoming season are of course to shoot for a state ring and to improve on things that we struggled with last season."

A name worth keeping an eye on for next year is 2014 RB Madre London of St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He attends the same school as DT Joey Bosa. London moved from Little Rock, Arkansas right before the 2011 season and has mentioned that Texas was always his favorite team growing up so he showed up to the NFTC (Nike Football Training Camp) in Miami this past weekend in UT gear. Texas is expected to visit the school in May:
“Growing up, my team was Texas,” London said Tuesday night. “When I moved to Florida, and started missing home, Arkansas also became another team of mine. Those two are my teams, and Alabama.”
“I moved to Fort Lauderdale two weeks before the season started. The season went alright. I had to work my way up the depth chart having moved in, and I did. I had to earn my spot to play,” he said.
“I played all the special teams, and running back last season. I expect to do a lot more next season,” he said.
“The Miami NFTC camp went well. I didn’t do as well as I expected, but people told me I did well. I know I’ve got a lot of work to do. I’ve got to work on not getting jammed getting off the line of scrimmage by linebackers,” he said.
“I’ve received questionnaires from Miami, FSU, Rutgers, Boston College, Arkansas, Arkansas State, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Mississippi State and Louisiana tech. I went to Louisiana Tech’s camp before, and I have also made unofficial visits to SMU and Houston when I was a freshman. I will probably go to camps at Arkansas and Arkansas State this summer, and hopefully more,” he said.
“I like the big running backs Texas has now, and has had. I like how Mack Brown and Texas use their running backs. I have always liked Texas,” he said.

From BON on Hall, this could get interesting...
http://www.burntorangenation.com/2012/4/19/2960079/texas-recruiting-2013-daeshon-hall-antwuan-davis-more
Is Daeshon Hall's Texas commitment in jeopardy?
Back in March, Lancaster defensive end and Texas commit Daeshon Hall took a visit to Baylor with his high school teammates for the Baylor Pro Day, telling the services that it was an innocent trip and that he smoothed out any wrinkles with the Texas coaching staff upon informing them of the trip afterwards. As with any recruit taking such a trip without telling the prior to going, the staff essentially told Hall not to do it again. Hall told Orangebloods.com that it would not happen again (http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1348644) ($). Well, it may have, only weeks after Hall made that statement. Rumors surfaced last weekend that he made an unofficial trip to Texas A&M, confirmed to Hookem.com (http://texas.247sports.com/Article/Texas-coaches-out-in-full-force-70743) ($) by a source at Lancaster. Hall declined to discuss it with the service.
If the trip did happen, Hall's commitment could be in serious question, as Mack Brown has little tolerance for commits taking other visits and even less for prospects who do so without informing the coaching staff. It could well be the case that another visit for Hall would effectively end his commitment to Texas, whether he chooses to inform the staff beforehand or not.

This line is a bit confusing. Did they confirm that the rumor was out there? Or that he was actually in College Station? OrangeBloods reported on this over the weekend but it was smashed pretty quick. Not even the A&M people could confirm he was there and I haven't seen it pop up since.

Quotes from DT Quincy Russell. Sounds like JUCO has been a humbling experience:
"When I first got here I was down," Russell said. "I just went to class and went to my room, went to workouts and went to my room, and just sat in my room all day.
"As I started thinking about it, I was like, I'm in this situation now and I have no choice but to work my way out of it. So I put everything that happened behind me and started over on a new page and started trying to get out."
"It's a brand new thing because last year I came in and took a backseat to the sophomores that were in front of us," he said. "Coming into spring ball, coaches were looking for other players to step up and be the team captains and leaders for different positions so I stepped up by working hard. The way I work hard, everyone looks up to it and everybody wants to be on the same page and go to the D1 level."
"It made me think more as a grown up and student-athlete instead of just an athlete like in high school. I had to grow up. I'm cutting out the play time," Russell said. "I'm in class or tutoring or study hall grinding as hard as I can so I can get further ahead in the school aspect as well as football."
"When I went down there it really put me back on track on where I wanted to go and where I wanted to be, and put that fire back in my body to work harder than I'm working now to get back up there," he said. "They're really still interested in me, so I'm really still interested in trying to get back up there by December."

Didn't realize that Darrell Wyatt coached and played at Trinity Valley CC back in the day, but he visited DT Quincy Russell on Tuesday:
“He came down just to see where I’m at in my classes and see if I was still a December guy,” Russell said. “He asked me what was going on and I told him I’m still on pace and I’m taking care of all of my classes and passing every class for this semester. He said they’re going to try to get down here next week or for the spring game to see how I’m doing out here when I’m going through practice and things like that. See how my hands and everything are coming together.”
“Everybody out there supporting me and hoping I get back up there I want to thank them,” he said. “That’s what keeps me pushing, as well as me doing it for my family. I’m going to do everything I can, so I can get myself back in the best position.”

Quotes from 2014 RB Samaje Perine of Pflugerville Hendrickson:
"I really liked it (the UT spring game). I liked how the coaches were straight forward. They told you how it was, what they wanted, and that's how it's going to be if you went there. Mack Brown just told us all the stuff, how they run the business about recruiting. He said they go by the rules, the don't send letters if you're not old enough to get them. They don't do anything illegal. He told us all if he caught any coach breaking the rules even a little, they'd get fired if he ever caught them doing that."
"Major Applewhite, he told us he's not there to make friends with you. He's relying on you to put food on the table for him and his family. He's putting all his trust in you. I like that approach a lot. I like how they're straight forward. There's no BS. They tell you what they want and how they want it."

More quotes from DB Maurice Smith:
"They offered me and Antwuan. They said they don't want to put any pressure on us, just take our time, if we do make a decision to make sure it's something we want to do," Smith said. "They also said that by the time spring is over, they'll probably offer the next two on the list if we haven't committed. I think it's Cole Luke and an out-of-state safety. They said they were going to offer them and basically, the first two who grab the offers will be the ones they take."
"It does to a certain extent. But I kind of want to take my time, take my chances," Smith said. "I'm not saying I'm leaning towards anyone, I'm just going to see how it plays out for me, hope for the best."

Quotes from the father of CB Antwuan Davis after Duane Akina visited Bastrop on Wednesday:
"He (Akina) pretty much spent the day there, watched him work out, watched him run," said Antwuan's father, Anthony Davis.
"We still need to sit down and get further into it, get information from a lot of schools. But personally I don't think the decision will be too tough," Mr. Davis said.
"We're still receiving information from a lot of schools, just trying to see what they have to offer," Mr. Davis said. "Some sound like car salesman, so we cut those pretty short. I don't need anybody to talk fast to me. You can tell which guys are genuine."
"Players go to the NFL from Texas. It's good education. It's not far from home from all," Mr. Davis said. "If he went there and ever needed something, it's right up the road. If he was there, my family could come down and watch him play opposed to being thousands of miles away."

Quotes from 2014 DB Nick Harvey of Lancaster who will be a major priority next year (24/7):
“I really like Texas,” Harvey told Hookem.com. “I like them a lot actually. In fact, they were my dream school growing up. When I was a kid, they were always my favorite team and I wanted to play for them. Now I’m more open of course, but I’ve always liked Texas.”
“I like the way their defense plays and especially how well their defensive backs perform,” said Harvey. “Coach Akina is a great coach and knows how to get the most out of his players. He puts all those guys in the league. Not just a few, but a lot of them are playing in the NFL, so that really stands out a lot to me. He’s very good at what he does.”
“As for the rest of the coaches, I really like the ones I’ve met as well,” Harvey explained. “Just like Akina, they’re real cool. One thing I think that I enjoy the most about them is they make you feel like family. It’s almost as if you’re home while down there. It’s just a great, laid back atmosphere that makes you real comfortable.”
“Since the spring game I haven’t heard much from them, but I know it’s still early,” Harvey said. “I’m not sure if they’ve contacted my coaches or anything, but I’m sure they’ll be by soon for spring football.”
“I’m hoping the coaches invite me back down to Austin,” said Harvey. “I’d like to go to the summer camp for sure. So if they call and ask me down there, I will go for sure.”

Just posted from ESPN Georgia site this week on Von Bell. Interesting to see he has not paid home state Georgia more attention.
-----------------------
The University of Georgia coaching staff thought they were recruiting a defensive back named Von Bell (Rossville, Ga./Ridgeland). But after not seeing him on campus the last four months, they were beginning to think he did not exist. He was not present for the G-Day spring scrimmage last Saturday, but as the players started to board the buses, Bell arrived with his parents and some teammates, much to the surprise of the staff in Athens.
“They thought I was a ghost,” Bell said before breaking out into laughter. “I have been trying to get up there, but we both had things come up, so they were not sure if I was real or not. I had the ACT that morning so I missed the game, but I just wanted to come up and spend time with Coach [Mark] Richt. They were still very excited to see me.”
Shortly after his arrival, the Under Armour All-America Game selection was then escorted by his recruiter, offensive line coach Will Friend, to the Richt’s office, where Bell would spend the next hour catching up with the Bulldogs’ head coach.

“Ohio State was my favorite visit. I really liked the people. They separated themselves from everyone else. I liked the coaches and the players I met at the position meetings. It was a great experience.”

Quotes from 2014 CB Chris Hardeman of Alief Taylor who will be high on Texas' list (24/7):
“Recruiting has been going really good right now,” Hardeman said. “I’m hearing from Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU and a few other schools. They’re all coming down this spring to take a closer look at me and I’m real excited about that.”
“Coach Giles just recently came by actually,” he told Hookem.com. “We didn’t get to talk much then though, of course. He did tell my coaches he liked what he saw and loved my aggressiveness in one-on-ones. But when I was at the spring game, we got to talk a lot. He actually told me that I was one of the three defensive backs, along with Nick Harvey and Cedric Collins, that Texas was looking to offer next year for 2014.”
“Right now my early favorite is Texas A&M,” Hardeman said. “I have a good relationship with their coaches and like them a lot, plus they have offered, along with SMU. I wouldn’t say they are my ‘top, top’ school, but they are an early favorite at this point in time. Like I said, I want to wait and see what Texas has to say or do before deciding anything. If Texas ended up not offering, I’d like to see how other out-of-state schools recruit me. I guess ones like Miami, Florida State, Ohio State, Oregon and LSU would be schools I’d like to check out as well.”
“When you get recruited by Texas it’s a lot different than other schools” explained Hardeman. “They go about it different. The coaches told us before that they want to wait until the other class is completely wrapped up before offering the next class and I understand that. That’s Mack Brown’s system and I have no problem with it. I just have to be patient with them, even though I don’t hear from them as much as I do the others.”
“I really like the Longhorns a lot,” said Hardeman. “Coach Akina is a great coach and does a good job of putting defensive backs in the NFL. That’s a huge eye opener for me is what all he does with his players. That’s one of the main reasons I’m just being patient. I’ll just sit back, relax and wait for that offer.”

Quotes from 2014 DE Derick Roberson of San Antonio Brennan who is also going to be a priority. He moved from Las Vegas during his freshman year (24/7):
“It was my first visit (the UT spring game) and I loved it,” Roberson said. “The coaches were nice and watching the defense on the field, it was fast-tempo a lot of guys flying around. I liked it a lot.”
“I've always liked Texas,” Roberson said. “Ever since I was little that's the school I've always wanted to go to. They were the team I followed growing up. To now be getting recruited by them is an honor.”

Per 24/7, the first new name to pop up during the spring eval period is DB Zach Newman out of Fort Bend Marshall who is 6-2/175 and is making the transition from WR. Some quotes from him:
"We start spring ball on April 30," Newman said. "Coach (Oscar) Giles told me he was going to come watch me then. He told me that Texas wants to see how I look this spring because I'm transitioning from wide receiver to cornerback. I didn't play the position last year, but the coaches tell me I'll do great at it. They say especially with my size, speed, quick feet, long arms and jumping ability. I'm looking forward to showing them what I got."
"I've been hearing from West Virginia, LSU, Houston, Baylor, Colorado, Vanderbilt, Utah and others," said Newman. "I'd like to hear more from Texas for sure though. Hopefully that all picks up soon after Coach Giles sees me this spring. I've always loved Texas and it's my home state, so to have them looking at me is an honor and a blessing. I want to represent the state that I'm from, so I hope Texas likes what they see."

Another walk-on kicker for UT? From the Austin American-Statesman:
Lake Travis' Stephen Pyle, a freshman walk-on kicker at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, has contacted Mack Brown's staff about transferring to Texas and auditioning for the Longhorns although he has already been accepted by TCU and SMU, according to his father. Pyle, who was recruited by Cal Poly to play soccer, made 14 of 16 field goals at Lake Travis with a long of 44 yards his senior year. As bad as Will Russ and Ben Pruitt looked in the two spring workouts open to the media, it sure couldn't hurt.

Welcome to the thread, man. Are you in Miami currently?
I prefer Bell as well because I think he's a guy you can move from position to position within the secondary. He should be the top DB on Texas' board, imo. UT will have to battle Meyer/tOSU as the guy is just an unbelievable recruiter. Alabama was leading for Bosa and Meyer just kind of took over. He hasn't even coached a game for tOSU yet and he's already scooping up whoever he wants.

Quotes from DE Torrodney Prevot after visiting A&M this past weekend (24/7):
“It was pretty good. I enjoyed the experience a lot. I got to hang out with the other recruits there, talk with the coaches and see what the team looked like. The team has some kinks to work out but I know Coach Sumlin will have those worked out by the end of this week” Prevot said.
“A lot of the players were interactive with me and I really liked that,” he said. “Matt Davis and Damontre Moore were two guys that I talked with for a while. Damontre (Moore) was telling me I should commit there because it’s a great program and it’s a great place to graduate from. He told me to go through the whole process and make sure it’s the right fit for me. He told me how he came in and played as a true freshman. I really liked that.”
He added, “Matt (Davis) was telling me if I don’t commit we’re going to fight (laughing).”
“Coach Sumlin and I talked about a lot of things,” he said. “Like, how me (Jonathan) Wiggins, Reggie (Chevis), Maurice (Smith) could help change the program. All of us actually talk about that a lot. We talk about adding to the ‘AggSwagg’ and stuff like that. Everyone has to make the best decision for themselves. We all like A&M a lot so you never know.”
“He (Reggie Chevis) wants me there at A&M,” he said. “We have a good connection and I think he will commit to A&M soon. He’s an awesome player so that would be really good for A&M.”
“They’re still one of my top three schools so nothing has changed,” he said. “They are pushing more and more but I want to take my visits and then make my decision.”

“It's been a great experience getting to know Coach Diaz,” Davis said. “He's a great guy and I'm really looking forward to learning more from him and playing for him.”
“I'm talking with Maurice Smith trying to get him to come, because I know he'd be really good for us,” Davis said. “I talk to Jacorey (Warrick) a lot because he's right down the road and we want to help the best people from Houston get to Texas.”

Recent quotes from S Marcell Harris to Florida's 24/7 site. We'll see if he's still on the board by the time Texas' June summer camp rolls around. He's said in the past that he'll be there and one of the reasons he didn't attend the first Junior Day in February.
“I’m trying to hurry up and make this decision,” Harris said. “It’s not easy, but I’m trying to get it out of the way before the season or during the season, I’m not trying to do it after the season. I’m trying to get it over with.”
“I haven’t narrowed it down yet, but there are some schools I’m trying to get down to it, go through the process and go ahead and finish this thing…I’m still going through this process and try to hurry up and make this commitment.”
“(Texas) Coach (Duane) Akina and (Florida) Coach T-Rob (Travaris Robinson), they called me and then I called some coaches like Florida State’s D.J. Eliot and (Ohio State) Coach Drayton,” Harris said. “I called those guys and they asked how everything was going and what they’re looking for.”

I’ve been trying to balance the two out, but stay in track shape to not lose speed or anything. But I’ve definitely been doing my conditioning and getting ready. No one needs to worry though. I’ll be set when it comes time for football. Right now I’m at 235, but once the football season hits I plan to be at 250.”
“I’m really looking forward to getting down to Austin,” Davis told Hookem.com. “It’s been on my mind since National Signing Day. I’m ready to get down there, work hard and compete. It’s getting closer and closer, so it won’t be too much longer at all. I’m ready though.”
“I most definitely want to play as soon as possible,” explained Davis. “For me, I’m hoping that I can work hard enough and practice good enough to get some playing time in the opening game actually. That would be like a dream come true really. That would be a big thing for me.”
“The coaches told me to come in expecting to play, so we’ll see,” Davis said. “They said as long as I’m prepared, that I will get to see the field my freshman year. So basically, it’s all up to me. If I come in lazy, I won’t play. If I come in ready to go, I’ll see the field it sounds like. And like I said, I plan to see the field early.”

Latest with CB Cole Luke of Chandler, AZ (24/7):
“I really have no clue what’s going on with Texas,” said Luke. “They just haven’t offered me yet, so I really don’t know what’s happening.”
“Coach Akina has been the one staying in touch with me,” Luke said. “But, for the most part, it’s not been anything big really. Mainly it’s just small talk. He hasn’t talked about an offer recently, so I’m not sure of his plan on that.”
“I was hoping for one for sure,” he told Hookem.com. “I mean, that’s their decision though. I can’t tell them who to offer, but I really was hoping I would get one. I’m not sure if they are even seriously interested in me. If they aren’t interested in me though, then I can’t be interested either, so I don’t know.”
“Oh definitely,” Luke explained. “Without a doubt. I don’t have any favorites right now or anything like that, so I’d for sure listen and for sure be interested (if Texas came calling).”

Quotes from RB Kyle Hicks:
"I'm going to learn some new juke moves (this spring). Some of my friends on the defensive side said they've learned my moves. So I'm going to come up with some new moves to keep them looking bad," Hicks said with a laugh.
"I'm just trying to become more of a leader to the team, just do whatever the coaches ask me to do," Hicks said. "Whatever they tell me, I'll do it to the best of my ability. I want to become a better player, a better leader, have guys look up to me."
"I definitely like Texas' offensive style. They run the ball a lot, so that's always a good thing," Hicks said. "They have a lot of great backs there. I know when I get there, I can learn from them and watch them play. I'm really excited to get there and get started."
"I've been straight forward with everyone. I'm only talking to the Texas coaches. I haven't really talked to any other coaches at all," Hicks said. "I only talk to Texas."
"I just got back in track. I'm kind of mad because I'm going to miss the first day of spring football to go to regionals in Lubbock on Friday. The district meet was only my second meet back," Hicks said. "I broke foot in the Trinity game last year. They thought the bone wasn't healing right, so I had to stay off of it. They put me in a walking boot and then I went to a specialist. He said 'I'm not sure who told you things weren't healed because you're fine.' They gave me a week break, then I came back. I'm fully cleared now."
"Texas has always my dream school. When I was playing, I didn't even think Texas was going to come look at me. When they did, it kind of shocked me," Hicks said. "I was definitely overwhelmed. Then when I got back to school, my coach said "Notre Dame offered, they want you to call them later.' Then it was 'Michigan offered, call them later.' I didn't really want to call all these coaches. The only messages I wanted to see on Facebook were from Texas. I didn't want to waste the other coaches' time, so I went ahead and committed. That's where I wanted to be, and I'm happy to be a Longhorn."

24/7 reporting tonight that WR Robbie Rhodes and his parents will visit with the UT staff after he's finished competing at the state track meet on the weekend of May 12th. Definitely a big piece of news considering Samples is still taking his time. Rhodes and WR Eldridge Massington would be the top two candidates for an additional WR offer, but the staff may focus more on Rhodes if they feel Massington is waiting on an offer from Southern Cal. I didn't know until a few weeks ago that he is originally from California and that's the offer he wants.

Quick quotes from WR Robbie Rhodes (24/7). FYI that his stat line for his junior year was 47 receptions, 1,315 yards and 21 TDs. That includes his 10 reception, 390 yards, 8 TD performance against OL/DL A'Shawn Robinson's team.
“I’m not even sure who I have offers from,” Rhodes said Wednesday night. “I know Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech have (offered). I’ve been in basketball and now track, so I haven’t been thinking about recruiting.”
“Texas was by the school last Friday," he said. "I haven’t really been talking to coaches at schools, but I’m going to go to visit Texas with my mom and dad after the state track meet.”
“I’m kind of wide open right now. I know some schools have come by, but I haven’t seen them because of track," he said. "I know the University of Houston (where his father played) was by, and Texas.”
“I’m running the 200, 4X100 and 4X200 relays. We should get to state in the relays," he said. "I ran a 21.7 at the district meet, but I have run 21.4 laser and a 21.07 hand timed this year.”

I wouldn't worry about it. I've read a couple reports that he spends a lot of spare time at the practice facility doing his best to prepare for the upcoming season (mainly speaking with the QBs and learning the playbook). He's been known to throw tantrums on the field at times and gets criticized for it, but I think a lot of that is due to his competitiveness. He's not going to dog it. Guy had over a 1,000 yards receiving this year on an Austin High team that was bottom of the barrel in the state (2-9 record).

I go back and forth with who I'd prefer and I think I like Massington more, but I'd be happy with Rhodes. A nice honor for LB Deoundrei Davis as he's been invited to the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge later on this summer. Quotes from him along with his film:
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/592788/deoundrei-davis
"I have always expected great things for myself," he said. "It didn't bother me that it took as long as it did because I knew what my abilities were."
"I knew I would get noticed. I knew it would happen."
"It is great that people think highly enough of me to invite me out to the event," he said. "Now it is time to show them that they made the right decision."
"It is a team thing and we all want to win," he said. "But it is an individual event, too. You are in coverage and you have your man and the eyes are on you."
"I am always going to be hungry," he said. "I wasn't given anything and didn't have a bunch of hype. I had to work hard to earn everything I have now. I wouldn't allow myself to give up or slow down in anything. Now that I have the chance to prove myself I want to go out there and be the best. I don't think all those other guys are going to be as hungry as me."
"I have respect for them all (the other competitors), but I am hungry and aggressive and people will see that."
"I am confident in myself and always have been," he said. "I really think that if I keep going the sky is the limit."

"Everyone is on the same level. I'll probably wait to make my decision at the Under Armour game."
He also says he's been talking with Duane Akina on a weekly basis and hears a lot from OL/DL Jake Raulerson, ATH Jacorey Warrick and CB Antwuan Davis. He's a bit tough to figure out because he still lists Texas as his "dream school" but keeps pushing his decision date back. I think he still feels a little slighted because UT waited so long to offer so hopefully that will fade in time. Getting Davis to commit soon and attending the summer camp in Austin with all of the other commitments could help things quite a bit. It's tough for Texas that more and more schools keep entering the picture.

“My decision is basically that I'd have committed to Oregon already if it wasn't so far away,” Wilson said. “That's my big issue with Oregon. I want my parents to be able to come see me play. In the end you're trying to make it to the league, so you do what you have to do.”

“Right now, things are level,” Prevot said Friday. “Schools have been coming by for our practices. TCU is coming by soon to watch practice. Tennessee is my most recent offer, but other schools have come by and are coming by that may offer.”
“I think we are going out to Florida this summer for the Miami (Fla.) and FSU camps. That’s in June. I’m not sure about any others yet,” he said.
“Texas A&M is sitting pretty high right now, but I’ve been researching more lately and I see they are getting more stacked," he said. "They have like five DE’s already, and one committed this year, but they are still pretty high with me. Texas is doing good with me. They don’t have as many DE’s right now because guys are leaving after this year, but they signed a few. I think Texas A&M is recruiting me harder than Texas right now.”
“LSU coaches have done a good job," he said. "Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and there are others. I’m developing a lot of good relationships.”
“I don’t have a list right now, but I’m getting closer to making a list," he said. "I’m thinking about committing after I take a few official visits.”
“I know I want to visit Oregon. I know I want to visit Texas and LSU too. I don’t know who the others will be,” he said.
“My uncle and my mom will be big in helping me make a decision," he said. "My uncle is handling all the business aspects, since I want to major in business management. He talks to the academic advisors and is seeing what program fits me the best. He’s helping me a lot. I really don’t know what a deciding factor will be right now though.”

“Recruiting has been going well for me,” said Rhodes. “We’ve had quite a few coaches visit recently. Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, Houston, Texas and some others I can’t remember have all stopped by over the past week or two weeks. It’s just been so hectic with track and everything, that it’s hard to keep up with it all really. But recruiting has picked up big time for sure.”
“Coach (Darrell) Wyatt has been the one in contact with me from Texas,” Rhodes said.
“They’ve (Texas) actually talked about offering,” Rhodes told Hookem.com. “I think I’d probably have to visit first before that happens, but it’s been discussed. Like I said, everything has just been so hectic that it’s been hard to keep up with it all. But I feel like I’d get one if I let them know I was serious, which I am.”
“He stopped by and watched me for a while. Texas has really begun to show a lot more interest in me and has been talking to me a lot lately. I’m going to try to visit here soon when I’m in Austin for track. I want to check them out.”
“Right now I’m sort of leaning toward Baylor to be honest,” explained Rhodes. “They’re my favorite at the moment and the school I’m considering the most. There are others there, of course, like Texas, but as of right now the Bears are the school I’m leaning the most to.”

“They'd have some work to do if they offered,” Massington said. “The main thing I'd want to know is why. Why wait until now to possibly offer me? That's what I'd really want to know.”
“I had gotten a few letters and things and they invited me to the spring game but that was about it,” Massington said. “I hadn't talked to the coaches or anything like that until this last week.”

“LSU, Alabama and Texas A&M is what I said. I’m not going to call them the favorites, or at the top, but they stand out," he said. "I’m really still evaluating all of the programs that have offered me, and there are still some places I want to see.”
“It was great (the visit to A&M). I noticed that they could use me at corner, and we got a chance to talk to the coaches and ask how they would use me,” he said.
"I’m trying to visit all the schools that I haven’t been to already," he said. "My parents have been trying to get me some dates that we can go places. Some people want me to go to camps, but we’ll see what happens. I like the Florida schools, so I may visit down there since they offered.”
“Yeah, I think they have slipped a little. Them being my dream school, I was thinking all Texas for a while," he said. "With other programs getting on me quicker, they have kind of opened my eyes to what all is out there and there is a bigger picture. Texas is behind, but I’m not going to say they are out or anything.”
“I’ve always wanted to play in that game. When they asked if I wanted to play, it was an easy decision," he said. "I’ll probably make my decision at the Under Armour game.”

Anyone else really confused by Smith? Says his "dream school" Texas is slipping possibly because they waited longer to offer even though he's one of two CBs in the picture and is a priority. Also says he likes the way Alabama gave him so much attention yet they've offered exactly 16 DBs other than him and that doesn't count their ATH offers. Kid contradicts himself a lot but it'll be fun to watch going forward.

A good point brought up by 24/7 on Smith is you wonder how hard UT is pushing for the DB class this year with 2014 being so loaded. They still think UT can get him if they really want him. Akina may not be sweating things too much if he feels there isn't a "must have" guy for 2013 and 2014 is filled with difference-makers. Just another scenario to think about.

Not sure if we've talked about 2014 OL Demetrius Knox out of Forth Worth All Saints Episcopal yet, but he could be one of the top players at his position once things start to heat up for that class. He was offered by Nebraska today and also has an offer from A&M (he's visited them twice already). He's scheduled to make an unofficial to Ohio State in June. He moved to Texas from Ohio two years ago, so if they offer it could be a done deal.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/227262/demetrius-knox#
"It's a great feeling to know that all of the work I'm putting in is paying off and everything is coming together," Knox said. "I know that if I keep my grades up and keep working hard then I'm going to have a great opportunity."
"I feel like I'm quicker and faster," Knox said. "I've added more muscle. All I do when I'm not working on stuff for school is work out. I've done a lot on my own in the afternoons."
"It's just a special connection I have with Ohio State," Knox said. "I've been there a few times and it's a great environment."
“I just look at the Texas program and what they do, and I feel like they'd get me ready for the NFL,” Knox said. “I just feel like of the teams I've watched, Texas has what it takes to get me to where I want to be.”
"It reminds me a lot of All Saints, which I like," Knox said. "They're always together and they're all for each other. It's like one big family."

You always have to keep in mind that you're dealing with 16/17 year olds and they are making the biggest decision of their life to this point. Not at all of them handle it as well as we would think it can be handled, but it is a bit of a concern when your "dream school" slips because they waited a bit. As long as they were upfront with him, I am good with the staff's approach. Lock up Davis and see what happens to Smith. 2014 is loaded with DB talent. I trust Akina and if this kid was a must have, he would have been offered right away.

QB Kenny Hill of Southlake Carroll committed to Texas A&M over the weekend. I think the Ags may getting more concerned that QB Kohl Stewart will go the baseball route.

If they are concerned about Stewart going the baseball route, was Hill the best back-up plan? From what I understand he is pretty good in baseball himself and may have the same options as Stewart as far as baseball goes.

You're right and we just don't know what Smith is thinking. It's probably a combination of wanting to be offered earlier by Texas while all of these other big programs are telling him everything he wants to hear. He has a lot on his plate and he's like Prevot in the sense that this bundle of offers came a little later in the game so he's had to take a step back and think versus being ready to commit to UT in February when he was an more of an unknown prospect.
It will be interesting to see how the staff proceeds should he still be on the board beyond summer. I agree with you that you have to wonder what Akina thinks about everything as he usually offers his "must have" guys in February. Did he wait because he was truly undecided? Or was the in-state talent just not catching his eye? I'm confident that Davis was always Akina's guy but that back injury of his slowed down the process and kept him from being offered at a Junior Day.

I'm not sure just how good Hill is when it comes to baseball. I know Stewart could have some options since the kid throws mid-90s from the mound already. Have to get our resident Ags to chime in.

OrangeBloods reporting that Duane Akina went by San Antonio Christian today to look at TE Corey Robinson. Not much worth passing along but Akina did tell his coach that the staff was interested should things ever change with his commitment to Notre Dame. I believe Robinson's older brother is currently attending UT.

Update on DE Daeshon Hall...OrangeBloods just visited Lancaster HS and they did confirm what Inside Texas reported two weeks ago; he was definitely in College Station for one of A&M's scrimmages. No quotes from Hall were provided and the UT staff is aware that he was there, but there's just not a good vibe with this one right now. Sounds like a case of committing early but still wanting to window shop. He's definitely the definition of a "soft verbal" at the moment so we'll see if he takes any additional visits in the future.

any idea how all these guys leaving affects our scholarships for the '13 class? do we still only take 20 and load up in a loaded '14 class with a lot of future seniors leaving in that class?
I think it's a tad early to tell as the staff will want to see who will still leave the program (rumored to be about two or three more guys currently) and who they can still land for the 2013 class. For example, if Wilson ends up committing to Oregon, the staff could stand pat and not go after another RB to save space for 2014. Lots of different scenarios that affect numbers and you obviously want to be at 85 or below.
Here's a breakdown after the current transfers:
2012 Spring Roster (including 2012 early enrollees) = 60
Remainder of 2012 class = 22
2012 Seniors
RB Jeremy Hills
RB DJ Monroe
FB Ryan Roberson
WR Marquise Goodwin
WR DeSean Hales
TE DJ Grant
TE Barrett Matthews
OL Luke Poehlmann
DE Alex Okafor
S Kenny Vaccaro
2013 Spring Roster (no early enrollees, transfers or early NFL departures) = 72

Quick piece of info from Nebraska's 24/7 site on CB Cole Luke. Worth keeping in mind since Smith may end up taking his time.
Luke doesn’t have quite the connection to Nebraska, and has several major offers to consider. It appears he’s waiting on a possible Texas offer, but claims offers from Arkansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Oregon. The Sooners appear to have a strong lead here.

Latest with QB Tyrone Swoopes (24/7):
“Everything has been going good for me since I’ve committed to Texas,” said Swoopes. “After a successful run in basketball, I then started focusing on track and did pretty good in it. I made it to regionals in the 800 relay, the spring relay and the long jump, so that was good for me. There was also some baseball thrown in there too, so I’ve been busy. Now I’ll begin to shift my focus back on football. We will start doing football during school before too long and, of course, I’ll be busy with it this summer. I’m really looking forward to getting back to it. I’ve missed it for sure.”
“When it’s allowed, I talk to Coach Harsin almost every week,” he said. “He’s also stopped by the school recently. They’ve watched me run track, have baseball practice and all of that. No football yet though, but I’m sure they’ll be by at some point before our season begins to check me out. The cool thing about Coach Harsin is that he just doesn’t want to know about football. He says the most important thing is school, so that’s usually the first thing he asks about. He also makes sure I’m doing well just all around and asks how everything is going for me in life, not just on the field. That’s real cool to me and is just part of that family atmosphere at Texas.”
“There’s one main thing I want to work on when we start back,” Swoopes explained. “I want to work on my accuracy a little bit. Actually, I want to work on it a lot. That’s going to be the biggest thing for me this year. I want to make it better, so I’ll be better. I’ll be focusing hard on my throwing accuracy and the little things like mechanics for sure. Those are the things my coaches from Whitewright and Texas would like to see improve and so would I.”
“I’m expecting a good year for us,” Swoopes said. “We did lose some people, but we’ll be good still. I’m expecting to make a deep playoff run. We only lost about six seniors, so there’s plenty of the team coming back. Plus some of our younger guys are beginning to step up and they have a lot of talent. I think we’ll do real well this year and should be very successful.”
“I really enjoyed what I saw at the spring game,” Swoopes told Hookem.com. “I thought everyone did a great job. They were all out there competing hard and showed that a lot of progress has been made. The offense was clicking for sure. I think they’re going to do very well this year. In a way, they’re in the same boat as us. They need some younger players to step up and it appears they have.”
“Our class is going to be really good,” Swoopes said. “I think one reason why is because we are all meshing well if you ask me. We’re all in it together and feel like we can make a good impact from the start. It all comes down to working together and sticking together. I think that’s what we have. For example, Jake Raulerson has become a good friend of mine. He’s a great guy and very vocal. I’ve really hit it off with him. Ricky Seals-Jones and I have also formed a great friendship and I can’t wait to be throwing passes to him. The same goes for Jake Oliver too. We actually met at an Oklahoma camp, but obviously are much happier now that we’re both Longhorns. I can’t wait to be on the field with those three especially and the rest of the class. It’s going to be something special.”

More from RB Dontre Wilson (24/7):
“I've told them (college coaches) I'm focusing on track right now,” Wilson said. “As soon as state's over it's back on.”
"It would help knowing that I've got people down there (in Austin) who will I already know,” Wilson said. “It's a good thing.”
“When LaMichael James first got his chance,” James said. “He's a great player. He's always been my idol because of his size.”
“He's like my best friend (Oregon RBs coach, Gary Campbell),” Wilson said. “All of the running backs he's coached have had great success. It's a big factor in my decision.”
“My decision is basically that I'd have committed to Oregon already if it wasn't so far away,” Wilson said. “That's my big issue with Oregon. I want my parents to be able to come see me play. In the end you're trying to make it to the league, so you do what you have to do.”

Also from 24/7, the coaches made trips to see the following guys:
DE/LB Deon Hollins, Jr., Fort Bend Marshall
2014 DE/LB Hoza Scott, La Porte
Fort Bend Marshall has a lot of talent so this could've just been a routine stop, but it's still interesting considering things are a bit shaky with DE Daeshon Hall and DE Torrodney Prevot maintains that he won't be committing anytime soon. Could Hollins be back in the picture?
