Justin Manning who was originally supposed to announce his decision this upcoming Friday has postponed his announcement. Says he needs more time to decide. He's supposed to be at the A&M/LSU game this weekend.

I'd still give the edge to OU but him deciding not to commit after his trip to Dallas shows he's really thinking about it. He skipped his visit to LSU to go to the RRR and I've also heard that TCU is a darkhorse in this race. Should be interesting.

Update on 2014 WR KD Cannon. He was in Dallas for Texas/Oklahoma:
"At the beginning, it was a great game. OU just opened it up. The Texas offense wasn't clicking and OU has a great offense," Cannon said.
"No. Everybody has a bad game sometimes so that doesn't bring Texas down whatsoever," Cannon said.
"I've got a lot more schools talking to me lately," Cannon said. "I'm just trying to keep it open."
"They (Texas) have a balanced offense, they're throwing the ball a whole lot more. They have a great coaching staff, a great wide receivers coach," Cannon said. "I've been talking to him (Darrell Wyatt) a lot, I just haven't talked to him recently. But he tries to teach you every little thing to make you a better player, tries to get it right, tries to get you perfect."
"Defenses are trying to key on me a lot. I'm getting double teamed every game," Cannon said. "At practice, my coach gets our defense to double team me so I'm used to it. I have different ways of cutting my routes off and getting open."

Quotes from 2014 OL Demetrius Knox after the beatdown from OU (OrangeBloods). He called Stacy Searels after the game:
"Just like any big loss, they have a lot of stuff to work on. But they're still my number one team," Knox said. "After the game, I sent coach (Stacy) Searels a message and then talked to him for a bit. I let him know UT is still my No. 1 school and I back him 100 percent. I have faith that they'll get things turned around."
"(Searels) basically just said they have a lot of stuff to work on," Knox said. "He didn't think his players came into the game with the right attitude and mindset. As always, when something like that happens, he said the coaches feel responsible."
"It's basically like a second home to me. I can sit down, talk with any of the coaches on the coaching staff and feel like they're a father figure to me, or one of my coaches right now," Knox said. "Any time I go to UT or Austin, I just feel like I'm at home."
"I talked to coach Searels and I've talked to some other o-linemen being recruited by UT. We want to come in and build a foundation, build around the quarterbacks. If we can protect them, get a good push in the run game, we can go from there," Knox said.
"It (the 2012 season) hasn't really been too good for me. I've been out most of the season with a lower back injury. It happened at start of the season. Basically, I talked to my doctor about it, he basically told me to stay off it for a while, give it time to rest. But this season has basically been big game after big game and I didn't fee like I could leave my team for big games," Knox said. "So I went in and did my job, then once we get ahead my back would start hurting."

Latest with 2014 S Jamal Adams (OrangeBloods). He was also at the Cotton Bowl last weekend:
"It was a great experience for it to be my first time going to that rivalry. It was a blowout, so it kind of got boring towards the end. It was a good game in the first quarter but then got out of control," Adams said.
"I was in shock, honestly. I didn't think it was going to be a blowout," Adams said. "I thought it was going to be better game."
"I talked to both (Bob and Mike) Stoops. They called the school and I talked to them both on my coach's phone," Adams said. "They said to just make the right decision, keep working hard, just know that Oklahoma is a powerhouse in the Big 12."
"Coach Akina always has great words. He just says to keep working. They told me they talk about me every day in meetings so that was nice," Adams said. "Coach Diaz said he wanted me to suit up right then and there (before the West Virginia game). That was a highlight right there (of the unofficial visit to Texas)."

Only if he actually is "guilty". Tristan Thompson says Kabongo's brother repayed him for the trip which would be fine. I guess we're just waiting to see what the NCAA decides, but if they do decide to punish him hopefully it doesn't involve a suspension.

Latest with OL Kent Perkins (24/7):
“That was crazy (being invited to play in the US Army All-American Bowl),” Perkins said. “I was honored. If you stay humble, people will come around and help you. I’m thankful for that. I’m not going to let them down.”
“My word means a lot,” said Perkins. “I don’t get calls from any other colleges now. I just get calls from my offensive line coach, Coach (Stacy) Searels.”
“I love Coach Searels,” Perkins told Hookem.com. “He reminds me of my offensive line coach here. They’re both so country. I love them both. I’m grateful that I’m going to go to a coach like that.”
“They’re dominant (Texas' run game),” he said. “You can’t stop the run game and I love it. I love their run protection and I think we’re going to be good.”
“I’m excited about that for sure,” said Perkins. “Playing around these big guys (James and Raulerson) that are my size, I love that. I’m excited.”
“I get better and better every game,” said Perkins. “I try to work on the little things, like keeping my eyes up and looking at the linebackers.”
“I’d probably say my technique is what I have improved on the most,” Perkins explained. “If you looked at film from my junior and sophomore years, my technique wasn’t all that great. I’ve capitalized on that. It comes to me easy now. I don’t worry about my technique. It’s just there. I just worry about doing my job.”

Thats about how I feel, coach! Now, I think it's time for you to step away, move up into the administration spotlight of Texas, have Manny Diaz canned and bring in Kirby Smart to be the next HC and let's re-hire Gene Chizik and give him the defense back as he is sure to be fired by Auburn.

If Mack moved up to the admin level, then he would potentially have a hand on all men's sports. Is that really what we want?

Chizik getting canned at Auburn would be our blessing. His defense brought us a championship. Pay him what it takes to take over the D again. He'd be happy, his family would be happy and we'd be happy because he'd make our talent into a mean defensive machine again.

A lot of random notes this morning....
**Per OrangeBloods, Texas has picked up a track commitment in ATH Easy Anyama of Houston Stafford. He was previously committed to Texas State for football. He has great size at 6-2/190 so it's hard to believe the football program doesn't have anything to do with this. He's a name to remember.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Easy-Anyama-142121
**Texas has flirted with several WRs on the high school and JUCO level; most recently WR Quintavius Leslie (committed to LSU) and WR Quadarias Mireles (committed to Ole Miss) of East Mississippi CC. A third name from that particiular junior college has emerged in WR Corey Smith who is originally from Akron, OH. 24/7 reports that if UT were to make a move on a JUCO WR, this is currently their guy.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Corey-Smith-112584;_ylt=AmRdJVAKZ.5ud5hK7waRhPNIPZB4
**Inside Texas reporting that S Deric Robertson of Killeen High was supposed to be in attendance at the Baylor game this weekend with the Killeen Harker Heights duo, OL Darius James and LB Naashon Hughes. He's currently commited to OK State but he's another name worth keeping an eye on.

24/7 reporting that a new offer for the 2014 class has gone out. LB Josh Walker of Gilmer is a guy that's flown under because he was injured this past spring:
“The Texas staff talked to my coaches and recently offered me,” Walker told Hookem.com. “Their offensive line coach, Stacy Searels, has been talking to them about me and watching me closely. He told them that I officially have an offer.”
“I really like them,” Walker said of the Longhorns. “They’re one of my favorites and always have been.Texas A&M, Texas, LSU and Oklahoma are the schools that I like the most. Those are my top four.”
“I definitely want to visit Texas again,” said Walker. “It will probably have to be after the season sometime though. The first time I went, I really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun and I felt very comfortable in the environment there. The coaches reminded me of my coaches here at Gilmer. Overall it was extravagant and a great visit.”

Another name to file away as a potential offer for the class of 2014 is DE Duncan Douglas of Lubbock Coronado. He's currently ranked #122 overall by 24/7:
“There have been a ton of schools interested in me,” said Douglas. “Texas, Texas Tech, LSU, Florida State, Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Georgia, TCU, Boise State and a lot more. It’s been pretty crazy, but there are a lot of them recruiting me. I’m definitely receiving a lot of interest.”
“It was a while back when I first talked to Texas,” Douglas told Hookem.com. “It started my sophomore year. Coach (Duane) Akina told me that they’re interested in me and they believe I’m an ideal defensive end for them or for any D1 school really. He also spoke to my dad, who’s a football coach at Lubbock Estacado, and told him that they’re very interested in me. He said they really liked my size and skill.”
“I’d say my interest in them (Texas) is probably the highest,” he said of Texas. “I haven’t talked to them much this season due to being injured and everything, but if they offered me it would definitely be a very, very big deal. Seriously, if Texas were to offer me, it would be amazing. It would be like a dream come true for me. That would be huge.”
“I talk to Lorenzo Joe a lot,” said Douglas. “He’s a good friend of mine and is obviously committed to Texas, so he tells me a lot about it. We talk quite a bit. He tells me to join the 2014 class of Texas if I get the chance. He tells me to commit if they offer so I can be a part of it.”
“I’d say Texas Tech is another school I like a lot because they’re in my hometown,” Douglas explained. “I’ve liked them since I was little and my father went there too. I do have some interest in schools like LSU, Florida State and Alabama too. I just have to visit them and see if they would be a fit for me.”

The most interesting note from 24/7 this morning has to do with the possibility of Texas looking at a second QB for 2013. It's nothing to take seriously for now, but worth noting that QB Joshua Dobbs of Alpharetta, GA recently told a Georgia site that UT has been reaching out. He's currently committed to Arizona State and will officially visit them this weekend, but remains open to taking additional trips. He is ranked #102 overall by 24/7 and is unranked on Rivals.

According to 24/7, a name that Darrell Wyatt has been quietly recruiting for 2014 is WR Patrick Walker of Grapeland. He attended the West Virginia game at Wyatt's request:
“The receivers coach, Coach Wyatt, called me and my coach,” explained Walker. “He invited me down to the West Virginia game, so I went. I thought it was good and very intense.”
“He told me they were definitely interested in me,” Walker said. “They’re going to keep watching me and recruiting me.”
“They are definitely in my top three,” he told Hookem.com. “It’s Texas, along with Baylor and Texas Tech. I think that the school is pretty great. They also have a real good program that I think can make me a lot better of a player.”
“I think they have very good backs and receivers,” said Walker. “They like to use them a lot and they can score a bunch judging from what I’ve seen. I think their offense is really good.”

Call me crazy...but I feel like Diaz will be around if Mack doesn't step down. Getting rid of Diaz, although he's been horrific, goes against their promise of three years to one another. Mack blaming another mediocre season on a coordinator also looks very bad and the man is more concerned with his image than anyone. Anxious for December and hoping Mack does the right thing for the program by retiring.

Or the other option is Diaz "moves on" to a smaller job (instead of being publicly fired) much like Bobby Kennedy did with Colorado after the 2010 season. It'd be the smart thing for his agent to put out feelers.

Could not have said it better myself
But the real problem is that as long as Mack is still pulling in top classes and filling the stadium then there will be no changes.
Just watch what happens if those stop and you can expect to see that change if Aggsy pull in the classes the did back in the late 80's early 90's. They now have something to sell.

Update on JUCO OL Desmond Harrison of Contra Costa CC in San Pablo, CA (24/7). He has already officially visited NC State on October 6th and has plans to visit OU (November 24th), Arizona State (November 30th) and Texas (December 7th, banquet weekend). His last official visit will likely be to USC on December 14th:
"I'm just excited about everything right now," Harrison said Sunday. "I have a lot of great schools looking at me."
"I know I'm going to Oklahoma in November (Nov. 24)," Harrison said. "I have decided that. I haven't decided on my last visit. It will be USC, Ole Miss or Texas Tech."
"I loved it (the official visit to NC State). I love it because it's close to home and it was a great atmosphere. I like the coaches," he said.
"Texas, it's UT," he said. "Their academics would be a strong plus. I like the atmosphere and the coaches at Texas. Oklahoma, that's a big offer. They are a big time program and they are winning, which is big."
"I've been liking USC for a minute now," he said. "They have had a lot of success putting tackles in the NFL, and they have a great atmosphere."
"Definitely, I'm looking at a place I can come in and make an impact," he said. "Coming from junior college, I want to come in and play. I think because I'm coming from junior college, I could come in and play at any of the schools I'm looking at."

“I haven’t taken any other visits (since the West Virginia game in Austin),” said Benenoch. “I wanted to come down for the Baylor game in Austin, but didn’t make it. The only one I have scheduled now is in December, which will be my official visit to UCLA.”
“We talk once a week,” he told Hookem.com. “I talk to Coach (Stacy) Searels and Coach (Mack) Brown. I’d say our relationship is really good. That’s one of the reasons they’re my top school. That’s a big factor for me. You have to trust your position coach.”
“They haven’t told me I need to commit by a certain time,” Benenoch explained. “They really want me. Coach Searels said he’s looking at some JUCO guys too, but that is just in case I decide to go elsewhere. But, he’s told me that I’m the one he wants.”
“They’re (Texas) still my favorite,” said Benenoch. “They’re my number one. Baylor, UCLA and OU are the others still in it. I plan to make my decision in December sometime.”
“They’re (Texas) doing okay,” he said. “The offensive line is on and off, but they have a very bright future ahead of them. They are young. They’ll be good.”

2014 CB Nick Watkins of Dallas Bishop Dunne gives a review of UT after his trip to Austin for the Baylor game (24/7):
“The visit went very well,” said Watkins. “The game was exciting and the fans were rowdy. The atmosphere stood out to me the most. The fans were live and everyone was ready to see a game, including me. The fans definitely caught my eye though.”
“Both teams offenses were on fire,” Watkins explained. “Both defenses couldn’t stop them though. I did think that Texas’ defense did pretty well stepping up when needed to though. How they (Texas) played caught my eye as well.”
“They had their moments,” he said. “I thought that (Kenny) Vaccaro had a good game. (Quandre) Diggs was confident in the way he played, which really stood out. Both of those guys did good.”
“Academics are the most important thing to me,” Watkins told Hookem.com. “I looked at their business major, which is very important. That was big. I also went over their depth chart. I want to be able to compete and get on the field!”

Update on QB Tyrone Swoopes who is set to enroll at Texas in January (OrangeBloods). His Whitewright team has not won a game this season (0-8) and he's been struggling with a hamstring injury:
"It's frustrating, of course. I've talked to my dad and (Texas assistant) coach (Bryan) Harsin about it," said the Longhorn quarterback commitment. "They're just telling me that it's a learning experience at this point. Everything that I'm doing now, learning now, will make me better in the future. I just have to keep fighting and not give up."
"We have a lot of pride on the line (the next two games). We've had a lot of injuries, people around here have lost hope in us. We want to finish the year strong, want to finish with one win, hopefully two."
"I've been able to handle it pretty easily. It just requires having to do the classes with nobody in there with you. It's kind of boring, but I've handled it pretty well," Swoopes said.
"I'm just trying to get in there (to Texas), learn the offense and help the team as best as I can. I'm not saying I'm going to go in there and play right away - if I have to call plays, be a cheerleader on sidelines, I'll do it. Whatever I need to do, I'm ready to be a part of it."
"He (Harsin) had told me before they wanted me to do come in early, but they didn't pressure me into it. It was my own decision, but they're pretty excited about it."
"I think (Harsin) is just more excited about my mobility because I can run the ball pretty well. I'm not saying their quarterbacks now aren't athletic, I think he's just trying to do a little bit different things with me when I get there. Hopefully I'll be good at it, and I'll get it down when it's my time to get in there and play."

Latest with 2014 WR Lorenzo Joe (24/7):
“Our season is going good right now,” explained Joe. “We only have two losses and we’re getting better each week. We have got to keep it going into the playoffs. As for my move to quarterback, it’s been going good too. I have thrown for like 1,500 yards and rushed for another 500. So it’s definitely been a real good adjustment for me.”
“I’m still liking wide receiver,” he said. “Although when you play quarterback you do have the ball every play. Still though, I work hard at receiver and put in extra work at the position so I don’t lose my skill-set there.”
“I came in for the New Mexico and West Virginia game,” said Joe. “I was going to the Baylor game, but the day before we played in Amarillo. I really enjoyed both visits. The whole thing was good. The atmosphere at the West Virginia game was crazy. It was loud. It doesn’t get any better than playing in front of 100,000 fans.”
“I’ve talked to some players about Texas,” Joe told Hookem.com. “Mainly guys like Jamal Adams (Hebron), Solomon Thomas (Coppell), Duncan Douglas (Lubbock Coronado) and a few others.”
“Basically I just tell them that we are making history with our class,” explained Joe. “I tell them it would be sick to play together. I say that we all can try to get Texas back on top, where it deserves to be.”
“Defensively they (Texas) have been struggling,” Joe said. “Offensively it has been kind of balanced. I’d like to see them throw a little more, but they’re doing good with what they are doing now. They’ll get back to where they need to be, no doubt about it.”

I believe it was technically the first series of the OK State game, so it may depend on if the NCAA views that as a full game even though he went down at the beginning and barely played. I know Hicks will probably look into a medical and I don't see any reason why Brown wouldn't assuming he's out for the rest of the year.

I doubt it really matters for Malcolm, the life span of a RB in the NFL is so low he would be crazy to stay at Texas past next season if his draft status is 1st round. For those that like rumors, here's an interesting post that was pinned over at Inside Texas concerning Mack's future:
I may have mentioned this in previous threads...if not, I have a couple of connections to UT athletics. These are folks operating at an administration level (not specific to football) but are at an executive level so each typically has insight and, in some cases, forecasting ability.
One has indirect involvement with hiring (again, at an executive admin level). As a "for instance", I was told who the new women's swim coach would be weeks before the name was released. He is always miles ahead on information specific to new or updated atheltics facilities....All of that being said, I was told last night that "Mack would not be back"....in no uncertain terms. More detail:
I was moaning about my fears of another season of underachieving and anger....AND angst. He told me, "that is a non-issue...he is gone" I asked, "what happens if they turn it around"....to which he replied, "unless they, overnight, turn into the 2005 team (and that WILL NOT happen) he is gone". He would not elaborate, but he was ADAMANT. He said he has no idea where a coaching search would go, but said he would let me know if he heard anything......For the record, this guy is NOT a football guy. He watches the games, but he is a casual fan I would say.

More from the same guy...
I hear quite a few interesting bits of information from one guy in particular...much of the time it comes with a, "please don't talk about this one" and I don't. Like I said, he is way out in front of anything tied to "big picture" stuff (facilities, money, etc).
I will say this (and know I am being vague)...there is a VERY interesting conversation happening right now about facilities. A couple of teasers:
1. It is not something any of us would predict
2. It affects coach Barnes
3. It is indirectly tied to the teaching hospital (if the teaching hospital does not pass, this "thing" is fast tracked).
4. It will help a great deal with recruiting.
Once this moves out of "super-secret" phase, I will gladly elaborate.

“They’ve (Oklahoma) been contacting me a lot, and after seeing the difference between the crowd at the Red River game, I’m starting to like them a lot,” he said. “Texas’ defense isn’t playing that well either. I don’t know what’s going over there.”
Neither do the coaches, apparently.
Texas is going to have to do something with their uniforms to keep up with the rest if the country...

More from JUCO OT Desmond Harrison of Contra Costa CC in San Pablo, CA (OrangeBloods). A reminder that he will be making his official visit to UT for banquet weekend on December 7th:
"I started talking to Texas a little back in the spring. When I first found out I had got the UT offer, I was excited being that I grew up there," said Harrison, who sent some years of his youth in the Houston area. "Texas is a big state, it's a big university and that was a big offer."
"They just tell me I can come in and pay and help the team," Harrison said. "I grew up watching UT. It's a good academic school with big-time football. They have a history of running the ball and I like to pound the ball. They do throw the ball too and I just like their overall history."
"I feel like I'm a good run blocker and good pass blocker. I did a lot of work in the spring with our new o-line coach," Harrison said. "I feel like I'm pretty much balanced now. I'm just working to tighten things up and want to continue to get stronger."
"He (Bo Davis) was just telling me I need to get down to Texas, come help them play," Harrison said. "I'm looking forward to taking my visits."

“I’m going to Alabama this weekend,” Robinson explained. “I want to see the campus more. I just want to get out there and see the school. I’ll get out there and see how much I’m interested in them.”
“I’ll be going out there (USC) in December,” Robinson said. “I’ll go December 7th through the 9th. When I first started watching football, they were the first team I watched. They were the first team I saw play. I think I was in first grade and I just started learning about football.”
“I plan to get down to Texas some time,” Robinson told Hookem.com. “I just don’t know when it will be. The last time I went was for the West Virginia game. But I do plan to get back.” “It’s just those three,” he said. “Texas, Alabama and USC are the only ones I’m considering now.”

“There are a couple of others besides Texas,” Rhodes told Hookem.com. “Texas A&M. They sent me a message on Facebook. It was from Coach (Brian) Polian and he was talking to me about them. TCU also calls me some.”
“I’m not sure yet,” Rhodes said when asked if he’ll take other visits. “I don’t have my official visit to Baylor setup either.” “They just need to find a spark,” Rhodes said.
“They’re just so used to having Robert Griffin III. Now that he and Kendall Wright are gone, they just have to find a way. The defense needs to find a way too and bond together so they can make those stops and good plays.”

I suppose we could go to a bcs bowl if that happened, but that is a big if. I do think OU will lose another game since their last four games aren't necessarily easy against BU, WV, TCU, and OSU. The hard part is us beating KSU, which can only happen if we improve upon our performance vs Tech and not go backwards. Even then it will be tough.

Kansas St losses one game (Colin Klein might miss @TCU) and OU losses one game and Texas beats Iowa St and TCU and suddenly you have a Big XII Championship game in Manhattan between Texas and K State. I know it's a longshot but the season is still no over and there's a lot to look forward to.

“I’m still interested in them (Texas) big time,” Knox said of Texas. "My best friend (Daniel Gresham) is committed there so they have a huge pull on me. Every day I hear UT this and UT that. I just feel like I have to sit back and give other schools a chance too.”
“I talk to Texas a couple of days every week,” Knox told Hookem.com. “I talk with Coach (Mack) Brown and Coach (Stacy) Searels.”

I would put Texas behind LSU at this point and there's no telling what will happen (good or bad) if UT has major turnover on the staff by the time he graduates. It's a weird connection, but his godmother was raised by LSU's defensive line coach, Brick Haley. LSU was also the first program to offer him. Where his track star sister, Bealoved, attends school could also make a difference. She's supposed to be taking an official visit to Texas soon and she's also looking at Alabama, A&M, LSU and Texas Tech. Both kids will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend.

The rumor goes that if Chip Kelly leaves Oregon for the NFL, the top two candidates for that job are Mark Helfrich (Oregon's offensive coordinator) and Chris Petersen (Boise State's head coach). Petersen coached WRs at Oregon from 1995 to 2000 so it is different from all of the opportunities he's turned down in the past. That leads most to believe that Bryan Harsin would be on the short list if Boise State opens up. Major Applewhite could also be a candidate for many offensive coordinator jobs.

Update on 2014 DE Derick Roberson of San Antonio Brennan (24/7):
“As of right now, yes, I'm committed to Texas,” Roberson said. “It looks good down there right now. There's nothing right now that I can see changing my mind, but things could change at some point.”
“It seems like it's starting to get there for them,” Roberson said. “But sometimes it seems like they shouldn't be giving up that many points.”
“I feel like I could come in and prove something,” Roberson said. “But sometimes I watch the defense and I'm like, 'C'mon Texas.'”
“There's a few other schools that have contacted me, but my dad wants me to focus on football right now,” Roberson said. “He's been handling all of that.”
“I feel like I can get bigger,” Roberson said. “I feel like I can get faster too while gaining weight. I think I can still get it done being bigger.”
“I feel like I'm faster, I'm stronger and my moves are better,” Roberson said. “I'm way better at reading linemen and what they might be doing before the snap. Knowing whether it's a run or pass by looking at the linemen and knowing how to attack is where I've gained the most.”

“I never would have thought I'd be in the place I'm in right now,” James said. “I just kept playing football, and eventually it came to me.”
“Growing up as a little kid playing football, you never thought you'd be selected for something like this,” James said. “It's honor to be picked with the best in the country and that someone thinks you're good.”
“We're going to be able to run with the big line we're going to have,” James said. “I can't wait to get there (Austin).”
“Everything's starting to click,” James said. “We (Texas) just need a couple of more pieces from our class and we'll be fine.”
“I want to show that I'm back,” James said. “Some people might say that since the injury I'm not the same. I just want show everyone I'm still here.”

Quotes from 2014 WR Lorenzo Joe who has played QB for Abilene Cooper this year (OrangeBloods):
"That's a great honor. I didn't even know that," Joe said when asked his thoughts on making the list. "To think that I'm one of top 250 players in the nation, that's crazy. There are a lot of great athletes in the nation that play this game. To be part of top 250, that's incredible."
"It was a good regular season for us. The two games we lost were close games that we should have won, we just had some mistakes," Joe said. "Every time after those games, we worked hard in practice and got better. Now we're getting ready for a long playoff run."
"Overall, I feel like I did pretty well. I couldn't have done it without the guys up front holding the blocks, the receivers catching the ball. They did a great job all season of blocking and catching the ball. they make my job look good."
"It's still kind of hard to believe that I'm one of the commitments for The University of Texas and one of the first ones in my class," Joe said. "It's just such a great honor. I've been talking to their coaches, they told me to keep doing my thing, keep working hard, getting better. They say they're proud I'm part of their team."
"I get a lot of letters but I haven't had any real conversations," Thomas said of talks with college coaches.
"I do talk to some of the players that aren't committed like Solmon Thomas and Jamal Adams," Joe said. "I ask them what's going on, tell them good luck in the playoffs and sometimes talk about Texas."
"I just have to keep my hands ready at all times, keep working," Joe said. "I have to go out there and catch some balls. Sometimes after practice, the receivers go do some drills and I jump in there and work with them. I just have to keep hands fresh and keep working. It kind of comes back to me quickly so I'm not too rusty."

Update on JUCO TE Geoff Swaim who will enroll at UT for the spring semester (OrangeBloods):
"I've caught the ball more than I did last season. I'm catching the ball more in space, so that's nice. Last year I just caught it in the flat. This year I'm getting downfield more," Swaim said.
"Last year they were throwing me screens, things like that. Last year, my numbers weren't great receiving wise because I was the checkdown guy, dump it in the flats and try to get three or four yards," Swaim said. "I've had some gains this year, 20 or 30 yards, where I've shown I can get downfield and can break a tackle."
"I'm not a selfish player, not a guy who's out there 'throw me the bal, throw me the ball.' But I can catch the ball, I can run," Swaim said. "It's not really worrisome to me as far as catching passes or not catching. If the need arises though, I can catch it."
"Last year was real beneficial to me because I came in this year and I have experience playing against guys who will be playing at the next level. The guy I played against (last week) went to Florida for a while then had to come to JUCO because of grades. That helps playing against competition of guys who have been on the next level. That's the only thing that prepares you," Swaim said.
"They said they'd like to use me, when they want to run the ball, they'll put me at tight end. They've also talked about moving me around, playing some h-back, playing on the wing. I'll shift a lot, motion a lot, they want me to do that. They want to use me and move me around in the backfield a little and then set the edge in the passing game."
"It's kind of cool watching the games. I'm not just watching as a fan, I'm kind of scouting and seeing how I fit in, watching the guys I'm going to be playing with," Swaim said. "As far as other schools, before I committed to Texas, I had teams coming out to the school and I was talking to other teams. Once I committed to Texas, my OC and myself agreed that we weren't going to try to play anyone. There have been scouts come out to a lot of our games, but there's been no wavering. I'm not trying to talk to other schools. I'm set. This is the offense I want to play in."

He comes across as a guy that likes to troll in order to build excitement and throw people off much like Benenoch does. He had a quote last week which referenced a new leader in his recruitment and his pick will be a surprise. I'm a bit torn but I'll still go with Texas considering his best friend (Gresham) is already committed, he called to commit to UT during fall camp and he hasn't visited schools like Notre Dame and Ohio State yet. Rarely do kids commit without visiting a school first (Knox has been to UT several times) but it does happen every now and then.

Update on JUCO OL Desmond Harrison with quotes from his coach. Texas is emerging as the leader (24/7):
“He has a handful of visits coming up,” explained Contra Costa head football coach Alonzo Carter. “He’s got Oklahoma on the 23rd of this month, followed by a visit to Arizona State on the 30th. Then on December 7th, he’s still heading down to Austin to take an official visit to the University of Texas. He’ll have another the following week, but he’s a little torn on where he will go. He was recently offered by Houston, which is his hometown as well, and he doesn’t know if he wants to go there, USC or Texas Tech for that last visit.”
“We both talk to Texas all the time,” Carter said. “We talk to Coach Bo (Davis) and Coach (Stacey) Searels, the offensive line coach, a lot. He also gets plenty of hand-written letters from Mack Brown. They’ve been doing a great job of keeping in touch with Desmond. That’s one of the many reasons he’s very excited to get down there and take his visit to Texas.”
“He wanted to make it in for a Texas game so bad,” said Carter. “Unfortunately for him and the coaches it just didn’t work out due to our season and him preparing for games here. He would have loved to come down there and see a game in person. He’s still going to their big banquet though and he will be there for that entire big weekend. Even though it isn’t a game he is still genuinely excited about just being there.”
“I believe Desmond will probably make a decision over the Christmas break,” Carter explained. “I expect him to make it while he’s at home visiting his mom. He should have his five official visits over with by then and I think he’ll sit down with her, discuss his options, and then go from there. You will probably see him announce that decision sometime in early January. I don’t see it dragging way out to February or anything like that.”
“If I were to predict an early leader then I think it would be Texas,” Carter told Hookem.com. “I’d say it would be Texas and probably Oklahoma going at it, just like they do on the football field.”

A new name to remember for the next class is 2014 LB Otaro Alaka of Cypress Falls. Some quotes from him (24/7):
“I’ve been talking a lot with Texas lately,” explained Alaka. “Recruiting for me has really picked up though. Besides the Longhorns I’ve heard from Michigan State, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Boise State, TCU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Baylor, Northwestern, LSU, Florida State and more.”
“We talk frequently,” said Alaka. “Most of the time Coach Giles and I talk on Facebook, but we talk a lot. I would say we have a very cool relationship with each other for sure. I’ve also spoken to and met Coach (Manny) Diaz at the spring game. I liked him a lot as well.”
“I’m very interested in them, even though they haven’t offered me yet” he told Hookem.com. “They haven’t said I’ll be getting one for sure, but they told me to send my junior highlights because they want to see them. I’m going to do that as soon as possible. I feel like I’ve been doing well this season and teams haven’t been running toward me this second half of the season, so hopefully that helps me out.”
“I went there earlier this year for the spring game,” Alaka said. “It was a very good visit. I got to see some of the facilities and meet the coaches. Texas has always been such a good program and has great academics, so it was good to check it all out.”
“I want to get it all (a commitment) out of the way,” Alaka explained. “What it all comes down to for me is how early I can get on the field and how good the school is in terms of academics.”

Ugh effing botched snap against WVU, along with our faggot kickers
To think that if they win Thursday against TCU, that they would basically be having a conference championship game against K-State (that they would probably lose, but still, its better than playing for basically nothing, because even if they win, K-State and OU still probably make BCS bowls)
Regardless, its been really nice to see growth from the last two seasons. Hopefully they continue upwards with this young team. OU losing pubestache should slow their offense down a bit for next season. K-State will be losing Klein as well. Barring a plethora of injuries, there is no excuse not to win the Big-12 next season. Anything less will be a major disappointment, imo.

We should know by now that OU isn't gonna get worse just by losing their latest QB. It really doesn't even matter what OU does, it's all on Mack if we're going to stand a chance against them. This year I thought we were the better team on paper because OU is not that great this year, but we decided to not show up to the game.
Regardless, David Ash should be the #1 QB in the Big12 next season. Not just because other teams are losing their seniors but because he made such a huge jump from last year to this year and he should continue to improve. We should have one of the best offenses in the country next season :ihit

He's torn his ACL and this comes after breaking the same foot twice. He'll have a redshirt year to fully recover. This almost assures that Texas will target and offer an all-purpose RB if they kind find someone they like.

I'll say that Texas definitely has superior talent this year than OU. But the youth still shows, along with Mack being a moron nearly every time they play OU.
If their defense is at least decent, they should definitely be in a BCS bowl. I have two main concerns. Their linebacker crew is first. If their linebacking crew develops to their level of talent, the sky is the limit over the next 2 seasons. But that is looking like a pretty big IF. Hopefully Diaz hurries up and gets his crap together. Perhaps just an extra year of learning and maturity will help them play his scheme out better, because last year his defense looked fantastic with experienced vets like Robinson and Acho. This is definitely the biggest question mark going forward.
My only other concern is losing Vaccaro. Hopefully they have another safety that can step in and show some leadership, make sure people are in correct position, and give the team an emotional boost along with an enforcer in the secondary.
I'm pretty confident in their offense as a whole, and their defensive line should only improve with young studs like Malcolm Brown (DT) getting experience and the return of Jeffcoat as a senior.
