According to 24/7, '15 DT Daylon Mack out of Gladewater, has received an offer.

Apparently the Texas coaches has reached out to runningback Johnny Jefferson out of Shoemaker High School. But he turned them down.
A few of his tweets:
"UT try to take me away from Baylor"

"They thought they was gone get me to decommitted ... Naaaa not happen Im A Baylor Bear !!"

Quotes from JUCO QB Jake Waters of Iowa Western who is officially visiting Kansas State this weekend (24/7):

"I would definitely like to get down there (Texas)," Waters said on Thursday night. "I would definitely be interested in them."

"I talked to Coach Harsin and he told me that if I really am interested in going down to Texas that he would make that happen. He told me they have a QB friendly offense and that they have a lot of weapons around the position."

"They (Alabama) came by the school yesterday," Waters explained. "They told me they liked me, that they wanted me to visit, but it kind of depends on what their quarterback does (as it relates to the NFL draft). They told me they'd know more about his decision next week."

“I had a chance to talk to them for a little bit this afternoon,” said Herbst. “From all accounts, it sounds like they had a really good time. In fact, they said it went way better than expected. Andrew really, really liked it. He enjoyed his time down there in Austin.”

“They’re going to sit down this week and discuss it all,” Herbst explained. “They had some prior commitment to sit down with a few certain people to discuss everything. They’ll fulfill that and talk everything over. That will happen before they announce anything.”

“It’s not set in stone yet, but I think he will go ahead and announce this week,” Herbst told Hookem.com. “That’s probably what is going to happen anyway.”

“I’m about 95-percent sure that won’t be happening (official visits to Arizona State and Mizzou),” said Herbst. “I’m almost certain he’s going to stay in state now. He told Arizona State he would be making that visit to them on January 18th, but I don’t look for that to happen now. I believe we’ll definitely have a decision before then.”

“My visit was good,” Harrison said Sunday. “What I saw down in Austin was great. The coaching staff, the players and everybody I met were great. There was nothing negative, I enjoyed all of it.”

“Coach Searels told me I could come in and help a lot at left tackle. He said they really need me and thought I was a great fit. I talked a lot with Desmond Jackson, Paul Boyette, Sheroid Evans and Kennedy Estelle. Desmond was my host, I knew Sheroid from junior high and Kennedy talked to me a lot about the offensive line. Kennedy said I would be a great fit and how they were going to develop into a dominant offensive line in the future,” he said.

“I don’t know for sure when I will decide. They (Texas and Oklahoma) are pretty much even right now and I’m probably going to visit USC next weekend (Dec. 14)," he said. "Those plans should be finalized Monday. After the visit, I’m going back home to North Carolina and talking everything over with my mom and family. I’m not in a rush to commit, and want to be sure of everything before I do commit anywhere.”

“I can’t say there was a difference in the my thoughts on how well the visits went. They were different, all of them have some things different, but I could see myself at Texas or Oklahoma,” he said

that tweet is ignorant. texas did not pull a scholly b/c he got injured. the timing of this does not even line up. not to mention texas has honored scholarships of players that were diagnosed by doctor to never being able to play football again before they signed.

it is because a) they felt like it was wasted effort and they thought there was no way he was going to re-commit, or b) they felt shady practices were going on with his recruitment.

i think they (wrongly) stopped recruiting him b/c the negative recruiting was so strong and was impacting him and they thought he was lost cause. bad move. dude is top player in state.

there's nothing wrong with this kid. the reality is the ags just out recruited us IMO. i will always wonder why we stopped recruiting him :bang

let's just say i am very close to a '14 player that is being recruited this year by texas and the ags. and the feedback i got is they are negatively recruiting the hell outta these kids. the staff sat him down and literally went through past classes from texas and how much attrition we've had and how many players faded away - literally player by player. emphasis on how many players were top recruits and transferred, etc. and this guy on defense, so i can only imagine if they are recruiting WRs and can talk about our QB issues etc. i'm not a fan of negative recruiting but hell, when they are recruiting WRs they are going to do what it takes to land these kids.

Taking Cameron Echols-Luper could be a well calculated risk by the Ags if you can get Foster on campus. For those that don't know Luper (Ag commit) is a close friend and HS teammate of Foster at Auburn HS. Some friends of mine on the circuit joked like 6 months ago that Luper would probably get some big time offers added this year due to this relationship. He is a good player but somebody I thought was a stretch for a program like A&M especially with Ags limited space and momentum. I must say the A&M staff is no holds barred and it is paying off in recruiting, I hope the Texas staff is taking notes.

For those that aren't aware Foster is without questions one of the best players in the country if not the best. That said I think this could be a case of lip service to a friend and would not surprise me if he doesn't make it for a visit. Can't ignore A&M momentum though.

Glad you posted this because I had forgotten that Texas picked up his film. He was a big fan of UT at one time if my memory serves me right. Katy is just destroying everyone right now.

He's had undisclosed behavioral issues and didn't play much this season. I wouldn't be surprised if the offer was pulled but damn that was quick.

Some recruiting notes from 24/7...

-word is that Tennessee no longer considers JUCO LB De'Vondre Campbell a commitment and they know Texas is legit competition. A coach from Tennessee will head to Hutchinson CC today to see him. Worth noting that the coach responsible for recruiting Campbell to Tennessee was once on the staff at Hutchinson CC, so that is a connection that Texas will have to overcome. Campbell plans to sign his LOI on December 19th and he'll have three years of eligibility at his next school.

-bad news of the morning is JUCO QB Jake Waters saying that he's shutting down his visits and won't make a trip to Austin. Bryan Harsin is still scheduled to meet with him in Iowa today, so there's an outside chance that things could change. Waters' current plan is to announce on Thursday and he'll be choosing from Kansas State and Penn State. Texas has not offered.

-TE Durham Smythe continues to be the one name mentioned when it comes to de-commitment rumors. The fact that he was unable to attend last weekend's banquet is not helping things. Notre Dame and Stanford are the two schools being talked about and while there's nothing of substance to mention right now, 24/7 made a good point that Texas could be the last to know if anything changes.

What is it about Mathis that makes him such a popular choice by Texas fans? I know he is well respected and like by the other HS coaches in Texas, and that he will give Texas a huge advantage in Texas recruiting. But I know nothing else. Didn't he have the RB coaching job at Houston for a month or so?

Basically, I just want to know why he should have the job instead of a proven RB coach at the collegiate level. No offense or anything, just cure curiosity.

Personally, I would rather let Major keep his RB job and let him be the OC. Then hire an old QB coach with a proven record of developing QB's, and with no desire to leave the program if he is offered an OC or HC job somewhere else. Texas needs stability right now, IMO.

Granted I'm an outsider, but I don't get the fascination with Applewhite as a coach either. The fact that 5 years into having that co-OC title, Mack still feels the need to pair Applewhite up with yet another co-OC should be a pretty big indicator to everyone that Mack doesn't think Major can do the job. -Mack made school visits to Celina (OL/DL Jake Raulerson) and Whitewright (QB Tyrone Swoopes) today.

-Texas continues to recruit RB Corey Clement of Glassboro, NJ and the plan is to get him in for an official visit in January. Another name at the position worth keeping an eye on is RB Ke'aun Kinner of Little Elm. He hasn't received much attention this year because he's been behind academically, but things are supposedly looking up for him in the classroom. Barking Carnival on Harsin's exit, this part made me :lol

- Harsin and Applewhite had some tension. Both believed they should be the primary coordinator of the offense. Only one was - Harsin. Both are roughly the same age, bright, highly opinionated, and neither felt they should take the backseat to the other. Applewhite was forced to be the junior man in the relationship and he resented Mack's imposition of training wheels. Particularly with a guy he considers his coaching peer.

Quotes from the high school coach of OL/DL Andrew Billings (24/7):

“Well it sounds like we won’t know anything until next month now,” Herbst explained. “Obviously that wasn’t the news I had earlier in the week, but now that’s the news I have at the moment. They’re going to wait until later in January before a decision is made. He’ll hash out a decision after taking the rest of his visits. That’s where things stand right now.”

“I don’t believe he’ll be visiting Arizona State or Missouri now,” said Herbst. “However, he’s going to take an official visit to both Baylor and TCU. Those will happen somewhere in the middle of January sometime. I don’t think the definite dates are set yet, but that’s where he’ll be going. As I said, from there, he’ll be making a decision. So I would look for it to happen mid to late January.”

“Texas offering him at defensive tackle was really big for him,” Herbst told Hookem.com. “He was really excited about that. I think that’s why there was some confusion earlier in the week in regards to his announcement. Them doing that was really big in his eyes.”

“He basically told them that he wasn’t too keen on the idea of playing on the offensive line,” Herbst said. “He said he didn’t really want to. So they talked it over on his official visit and decided it would be best to offer him as a defensive lineman.”

“Texas came to my school very recently,” said Kinner. “It was the wide receivers coach, Coach (Darrell) Wyatt. He visited with my coaches and visited with me as well. We talked about school, football and that type of stuff.”

“He said that they had another running back decommit so there was a spot open,” Kinner explained. “Coach Wyatt then told me that spot could be mine, but I need to take the ACT and score a certain grade or higher. If that happens, then he’s going to come back and visit with me. That’s when he said that Texas would offer me. I take it in early January, so hopefully everything will get worked out very soon.”

"There’s no doubt that would be a huge deal to me,” he told Hookem.com. “I love Texas. I’m a huge Longhorn fan, so if they offered I would accept. That would be so crazy. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure I do well on that test. I would love for them to come back and give me a scholarship. I wouldn’t believe it!”

“It’s not just me that likes Texas,” Kinner said. “It’s my whole family. We all love the Longhorns. I’ve grown up watching them and rooting for them every weekend during football season. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been all about Texas. They have such a great winning tradition and I would give just about anything to be a part of that. Plus they offer one of the best educations around, so you can’t go wrong with them. It would really be a dream come true for me.”

“Lately schools like California, Boise State, Baylor, TCU, Illinois, Utah, Oregon, UTSA, Louisiana Monroe, North Texas and others have been in touch and have been asking about me. Texas is the big one though,” said Kinner.

More on Manny Diaz...Florida International is taking things slow for the time being. It's said that their target date for making their new hire is around the time all of the media is in Miami for the Orange Bowl. Another reason for the wait is FIU attempting to kill two birds with one stone. Butch Davis, the former North Carolina head coach, is said to be their main target. Because North Carolina still owes Davis money and FIU now owes Mario Cristobal who they just fired, they're looking for a middle ground on a new contract that works for both parties. Diaz appears to be a strong runner-up being a young, Cuban, charismatic guy and the son of the former mayor of Miami. As of now, he will be the defensive coordinator for UT in the Alamo Bowl.

FYI that recruiting news will be slow until the beginning of January. A "dead period" started yesterday and will last until January 3rd. That means no coaches can visit high schools, no players can visit colleges and no complimentary tickets are given out to games. Phone calls from coaches are permitted once a week to a single prospect. To my knowledge, communication through Facebook is still allowed and players can call coaches as much as they want as always.

The signing period for JUCOs starts tomorrow. JUCO LB De'Vondre Campbell originally intended to sign as early as possible, but he's still waiting for his final grades to determine whether or not he can enroll at his next school in the spring semester. Otherwise, he'll have to wait until summer. The good news is he will still have three years of eligibility. JUCO OL Desmond Harrison will be a summer enrollee.

That puts our total at 25 commits with 2 or 3 not expecting to make it in (2 grade risks and 1 MLB draft). -Texas has not given up on JUCO S Shaq Fluker even though he decided to skip UT's annual team banquet. Because Georgia is also recruiting another JUCO safety and Fluker may not be able to enroll at UGA for the spring semester, Texas wants to be there in case he wants/needs another option.

Two weeks ago, Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier visited Waters and Scott Strohmeier's staff at IWCC. The Crimson Tide considered recruiting a junior college quarterback in case AJ McCarron declared early for the NFL draft next month.

Alabama never offered a scholarship. Neither did Texas, which also inquired late about Waters. The Longhorns' former co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin, now the head coach at Arkansas State, told Waters they would consider an offer only if the quarterback agreed in advance to accept it.

Last Thursday, when Waters and defensive end Devon Nash announced their pledges to K-State in a news conference at Hoover Hall, the quarterback's name was trending nationally on Twitter.

Weird deal. He was a Florida State lean at one time when Stoops was still their defensive coordinator and it's understandable that he would want to follow his DL coach to Kentucky, but he apparently never mentioned Kentucky a single time and all reports on him usually talked about how hard it would be to pull him out of Mississippi.

Interesting comparison on KSU and Texas From Matt Hayes - http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/feed/2012-08/firstand10/story/mack-brown-texas-longhorns-trouble-vs-kansas-state-ole-miss-hugh-freeze

-----------------------

1. I don't want to get on a soapbox but ...

It was fitting, really, that Texas finished another disappointing season earlier this month with a big loss to Kansas State.

No other program more clearly defines or better illustrates the state of the Texas program under Mack Brown than Kansas State.

Kansas State: winning by overachieving.

Texas: losing by underachieving.

“I really believe we’re headed in the right way, in the right direction,” Brown says.

And you want to believe him, you really do. There’s not a more perfect fit for Texas than Brown; the charming, graceful yet punchy-when-he-has-to-be coach who has won big at Texas—but now can’t stop a disturbing down cycle.

Before the Kansas State game earlier this month, Brown said he didn’t have an answer for the Longhorns’ struggles against the Wildcats. They’ve lost to K-State when they had the better team, and lost when they didn’t.

They lost at home, on the road and with one of the teams playing for a championship. All told, five straight losses.

The question: How?

The answer is simple: coaching.

In the three seasons since Texas last played for a national championship in 2009, the Longhorns are 21-16 with no double-digit win seasons, no conference championships and a 2-11 record vs. ranked teams.

In those same three years, K-State—in its second stint under coach Bill Snyder—is 28-10 with two double-digit win seasons, one Big 12 title and a 7-6 record vs. ranked teams.

Now, the biggie: in those three years, Texas has finished third, third and second in the Rivals.com recruiting rankings. K-State finished 63rd, 68th and 58th.

Texas signed 54—more than half an 85-man roster—elite four- and five-star recruits. K-State signed three.

In the last three seasons, K-State beat Texas by a combined 98-51—yet there was Texas president Bill Powers earlier this month steadfastly standing behind Brown with a public statement that Mack has his “full support.”

Two straight blowout losses to Oklahoma. The Longhorn Network is barely breathing. Rival Texas A&M is thriving in the SEC, and new rival TCU went into Austin on Thanksgiving Night and beat the Longhorns.

Mack Brown embodies everything that’s good and right about college football. He’s just not winning enough anymore.

And that’s what this eventually will become—more than likely, by this time next year.

I can directly confirm that coaching staffs are having a field day recruiting against Texas using stats like this. A couple recruits I know say that stats get brought up negative recruiting Texas by every single coaching staff, but in particular the Ags are being extremely aggressive. Certainly can't blame them.

LSU also has an "in" with 2014 WR Speedy Noil...he happens to be a cousin of LSU RB coach Frank Wilson.

And Noil's high school coach, Jabbar Juluke, is the uncle of 2014 S Edward Paris. Two guys that were never happening for Texas.

Kerr had no basis for his insinuation other than a college kid was sitting courtside. Apparently Manziel's family is rich, and I think he gets money for Heisman-related appearances also. He's already said he bought it himself for his birthday (he's a LeBron James fan).

Kerr is a jackass. Didn't he try to extort an extension from the Spurs by threatening not to play any more in the playoffs after the 2003 WCF unless they extended him for another season? And back in the Suns-Spurs series, he kept trying to argue (as a commentator) that Duncan should be suspended like Amare (while conveniently forgetting to mention his conflict of interest - Kerr was invested in the Suns).

By the way, I've read that A'Shawn Robinson is bolting Texas for USC. Can anyone confirm?
