Updated bowl projections. Texas still looking at the Cotton:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/bowls/projections
Believe it or not, Texas still has an outside chance at the conference title. Should Texas somehow win out and OU loses to OK State, there would a four-way tie for first place. After all of the tie-breakers have been evaluated, Texas would come out on top.

Per 24/7, Texas is starting to recruit two JUCO prospects from East Mississippi CC (former school of DT Brandon Moore). They are DE Za'Darius Smith and DT Jarran Reed. Smith is looking hard at Texas A&M (he was in College Station on Saturday) and Mississippi State. Reed recently de-committed from North Carolina, has visited Ole Miss and Florida is starting to pick up interest. Sounds like Bo Davis is the lead recruiter for both.

OL Caleb Benenoch will be making an official visit to UCLA this weekend (OrangeBloods). He has been invited to take his official visit to Austin for team banquet weekend on December 7th, but those plans have not been finalized:
"I do (have a favorite), but I'm going to keep that to myself," Benenoch said.
"You just kind of wake up and it's on your mind all the time," Benenoch said. "That's kind of how it happened."
"I think there's a school I like a lot and I'm trying to see if other people can beat it out. Or I'm trying to confirm if that's the place I want to be. I would say that's where I'm at right now," Benenoch said. "I don't think I'm quite ready to make the call yet, but I'm trying to see if anybody else can come in and make an impression."
"I have an official to UCLA on Friday," Benenoch said. "I will be there until about middle of the day on Sunday. I'll be there to watch them play Stanford in the Rose Bowl, and hang out with the players and the coaches and get a feel for what it's about. I'm excited."
"I'll talk to them (Michigan) and see how it goes, but they're a little late," Benenoch said. "I'm coming down to the end of it."
"I'm coming down the homestretch," Benenoch said. "I should make my decision pretty soon in December, so I'm really looking forward to it."

We all know Mack's best attribute is recruiting and Harvey will one of a handful of studs who will prove it's time for a change at UT. Aside from the two losses, things could not have gone more perfect for A&M in 2012 and they're riding a huge wave of momentum right now. Manziel potentially winning the Heisman only adds insult to injury and Texas won't help themselves in Manhattan this weekend against KSU. Hopefully the important decision-makers at UT recognize what's right in front of their faces.

Same here. According to last year's bowl payouts, A&M stands to make two million more if they go Capital One as opposed to the Cotton. I'm also not confident Texas even gets picked as a four-loss team. They surely don't deserve it and getting beat handily in Manhattan won't help their chances.

If Oklahoma goes BCS then Texas will get Cotton. Win or lose against K-State IMO. As for A&M. It depends on the Cap1. They get a pick before Cotton. Cotton won't pass up A&M though if we drop. Even if LSU is still on the table.

Some factors to look at starting with the craziest:
-Kent State. They're currently ranked #17 (need to get to #16 or higher) and they play #21 Northern Illinois in the MAC final this week. That would almost guarantee them a BCS at-large bid if they win and a chance to knock OU down to the Cotton. OU still has to beat TCU in Forth Worth anyway. Texas would then go to the Alamo or a lesser bowl.
-OK State beats Baylor and they likely pass Texas in the Big XII standings. Not that conference record always matters, but UT wouldn't be the best team available after OU and Kansas State. Would the Cotton still take Texas if they get beat badly in Manhattan?
-Capital One would be a bunch of tards to pass up on the potential Heisman trophy winner and the hottest team in college football (other than Notre Dame). Better payout for A&M as well.
DesignatedT

I agree with that. Northern Illinois is a 5 pt favorite so I'm hoping they do us all a favor and keep Kent State out of the BCS.
Another thing that I'm not sure about is if Texas beats K-State and OU beats TCU does K-State still go BCS? Or would OU now be the only team to go from the big12 knocking K-State to Cotton?

Forgot to say that Nebraska is part of the equation. They're at #12 and losing to Wisconsin in the Big 10 final basically assures Kent State a BCS berth. Flip a coin for that game as that conference is putrid.
My simple guess is OU would go Fiesta to play Oregon, K-State/OK State would go Cotton to play Alabama/LSU and Texas would go Alamo. There may be a chance Texas gets picked by the Cotton for a big road win, especially if they manage to get A&M away from the Capital One. Both OU and Kansas State losing would be a mess.

I'm not great with these projections, but the Sugar would be looking for someone and they have taken a crap team in the past (see Cincinnati, Hawaii). The next highest ranked team would be #14 Clemson. LSU, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Oregon State and UCLA would not be eligible for BCS bids as two teams from their respective conferences would already have punched their tickets.

Thought for sure he was Ohio State bound. Did you expect to land him TFloss?
I said a few weeks ago that it would most likely be Texas because he hasn't visited Alabama or Ohio State and Gresham was already committed. Rare that a recruit commits without making a trip first. However, I wasn't completley sold because Texas is struggling, potentially going through multiple coaching changes and Knox loves throwing people off on Twitter. I'd mark his commitment down in pencil.

A quick reminder that the last contact period of the 2012 recruiting year started on Sunday and will run through February 2nd. There are some quiet and dead periods in between these dates, but the important part to remember is college coaches are allowed to see individual prospects off-campus up to SIX times during this window (no more than once per week). A good example of this is Darrell Wyatt traveling to see WR Dorial Green-Beckham multiple times last year before he ultimately picked Missouri. There will be a lot of movement back and forth after the regular season ends on Saturday night.

The problem with lvill is the the tv networks just do not see them as high profile program so there is no increase in $ from tv contracts with them coming over. I think realignment is far from over.

Per 24/7, Texas has a new offer out to 2014 OL Orlando Brown, Jr. of Peachtree Ridge HS in Suwanee, GA. He is the son of former Cleveland Browns OL Orlando Brown and probably the biggest kid I've ever heard of at 6'9"/375:
“Texas called and offered me tonight (Thursday),” Brown told Hookem.com. “I didn’t talk to them personally, but they offered through my coach. Coach (Stacy) Searels told him to let me know I have an offer from Texas now.”
“I’m going to try and get out there in January or February,” said Brown. “I plan to come in for their junior day when they have it.”
“Overall it’s a great college,” Brown explained. “They have a great program and great tradition. I also think that their offensive line coach, Coach Searels, is awesome. I could definitely see myself playing for a Big 12 school like Texas. Texas is a powerhouse in the Big 12 every year. As for the conference itself, it’s a great conference for competition.”
“I have no problem playing far away from home,” he said. “Not at all actually. I’m open to all my options, especially schools like Texas. I just want to go somewhere that has good academics, that’s a proven winner, a place that will allow me the opportunity to play my freshman year and somewhere with a great coaching staff.”

Update on DT A'Shawn Robinson from an anonymous source (24/7). He will be taking an official visit to USC this weekend instead of attending banquet:
“Well that’s right. He is still solid to Texas,” the source said. “I know a lot of people may not think that because he’s taking visits and won’t be at the banquet this upcoming weekend, but he is. I can promise you that. If he were to sign today, it would be Texas.”
“I wouldn’t look too much into that (Robinson visiting USC),” the source said. “I’m positive they won’t land him. This is just a matter of A’Shawn checking out his childhood favorite, nothing more. There’s a lot of uncertainty there right now too, so we’re reminding him of that. Plus, that is a long way from home. The culture is different too. A’Shawn is more of a down south type kid if you know what I mean. Not some California surfer.”
“That’s the plan for right now anyway,” the source told Hookem.com. “He still wants to go check them (Alabama) out and they’ve been recruiting him hard. Do they have a legit shot to land him? I don’t think so. I wouldn’t count on it. They have a shot, yes, and it’s better than USC’s, but he’ll stick with Texas in the end.”
“I know he’s told a couple of kids that he’s going to be in Austin,” said the source. “He has friends down there already. He wants to be close to family and they want to be close to him. Texas is the logical choice. Besides, he feels like he can come in and make an impact sooner than later. He’ll be a Longhorn. I’m confident in saying that.”

Latest on OL Desmond Harrison from his JUCO coach (24/7):
“Up until the Oklahoma visit it seemed like Texas might have been the school to beat,” said Carter. “They’ve (Texas) just been real good to him and it reminds him of being home in Houston. I know he’s very excited about it all. Even though he lived in Texas, he had never been to Austin, so he’s pumped about everything. I expect them to do everything right for Desmond and I know they will. The Longhorns are going to be some tough competition for sure.”
“I’m not sure what to make of that situation (North Carolina State),” Carter explained. “His mom lives close to there, so they were always a big contender for him. Now their coaching staff is gone, so that isn’t really the case anymore.”
“He’ll head back east for Christmas,” said Carter. “He’ll sit down with his mom, family and friends and they’ll hash it out. He’ll make a decision then and come back after the break to let me know and then announce. If you don’t hear of one by the end of December, then it will be the first of January. It won’t be too much longer at all.”
“He’s very high on Texas and Oklahoma,” Carter said. “Both staffs have done a great job recruiting him. Coach (Bo) Davis and Coach (Stacy) Searels have been excellent. They’ve had a great presentation and work hard on him, just like Oklahoma does. Right now it might be a toss-up between the two, but he still has that Texas visit to go.”

It could be me at guard and him at tackle. After a year in a college workout program, I think he could start and dominate.”
“I just told Orlando about the opportunities that Texas has,” Knox told Hookem.com. “Everyone knows I love Ohio State, but I picked Texas because I felt like I could succeed more here. Texas offers a great education and great program. It might not exactly look like that way now, but when we all get there it will feel so good to know that we are the ones who helped turn the program back to the way it should be.”
“I say think about your future six years from now,” Knox said. “Think about getting that degree from Texas and all the connections you will make along the way. Quotes from OL Caleb Benenoch who's saying his commitment will come this week (OrangeBloods). He took an official visit to Baylor this past weekend where his older brother is on the football team:
"Baylor, UCLA, Texas, and Oklahoma in no specific order," Benenoch said.
"UCLA, because of the youth, the coaching staff, and the atmosphere. What they're doing with that program is unbelievable and attractive to me and something I would like to be a part of."
"Baylor because the coaches they have - coach Briles, coach Clements, coach Kaz - they do what they need to as far as developing talent. They can do something special with their program once their defense plays better."
"Oklahoma, they've won a lot of games, put a lot of talent in the league, and done things the right way."
"Texas, because it's a childhood favorite to me. Playing in the state of Texas when UT offers you look. I like coach Searels a lot and you have to be one of the top offensive linemen. It's an honor to be recruited by Texas."
"The thing with UCLA was unless I had a bad trip, the trip was going to help them out because I like UCLA," Benenoch told BruinsReport.com's Edward Lewis following his trip. "But it was a good trip, I think it helped them out and I'll talk to my mom about that and we'll sit on things. I have an official to Baylor this weekend, and about a week after that, I should be wrapping it up."
"I've always wanted to go up there (to Baylor) and get a more in depth look. I got to talk to some people from the law school which is one of the best in the country. I got to hang out with coach Kaz, the strength coach, who I absolutely love. The things he does with the players is absolutely amazing. I got to spend a lot of time with coach Clements who is one of the best offensive line coaches."
"I'm not sure (about an official visit to Texas), after this visit I feel like I'm pretty much done, but we'll see how things go over the next couple of days," Benenoch said.
"Yes, I should be making a decision by the end of this week," Benenoch said.
"It feels great," Benenoch said. "It's been a long ride but I've had a lot of fun. But it feels good that it's almost over."

Other than it reeking of Mack's desperation and it signaling his return for 2013, it's an odd move to me. I understood the staff taking a hard look at Wallace last year, but the timing of this move doesn't make sense on the surface considering Ash had a nice year. No matter how you feel about Ash, QB is not one of the gaping holes in this program right now. Investing in a wildcard, JUCO QB seems unnecessary.

Update on JUCO QB Tanner McEvoy from 24/7. Sounds like Texas is pretty damn serious and Mack is flying out to see his family in the near future. I don't know if his folks still reside in New Jersey or have moved since McEvoy graduated high school. The word is he will commit if offered by UT.
“They (Texas) are coming by,” Minnick said. “I just found out from Tanner a little bit ago. They just called last week, got tape on him, and really liked him.”
“I heard Mack Brown is flying out to see his dad, so it’s probably a done deal, I would think,” he said.

I'm certainly in the minority amongst Texas fans, but I don't think Ash will ever get us there. I thought this last year and this year did not change my opinion one bit.
Yes I agree he stat line drastically improved this year. However, if you watch the film, all of Ash's big games were when the other team loaded the box with 8-9 men and dared him to throw. People know to beat Texas you shut down the run and they gave man on man coverage constantly - and that is against a lot of bad defenses we played constantly getting man-to-man. Note Ash only played against a 7 man front for pretty much an entire game against OU - that's it. Nobody else gave him respect to play the pass. And we saw the result against OU. That defense that gave up 788 yards to West Virginia only allowed what, like 30 passing yards to Ash in the first half - pretty much all on one play being a jump ball? Yikes. But hey, at least OU has talented players, lest we bring up result for Kansas.
The QB position is in dire need. I sure hope Connor Brewer is developing to compete for job next year. And PS - for those waiting on Overstreet - he is very much a work in progress, I have seen him in practices and he seriously lacks any accuracy (and this is just in drills w/o pressure). I just don't see that happening.

Big recruiting news per 24/7. Bryan Harsin is in Yuma, AZ today to check out JUCO QB Tanner McEvoy. He's 6-6/215, dual-threat QB originally from New Jersey and signed with South Carolina in 2011. He redshirted his first year and had a marijuana charge in August. He transferred out to Arizona Western a few weeks later and ended up being the conference's MVP. It's odd that he doesn't have any offers at the moment but Arkansas and Oregon are very interested. McEvoy would be a spring enrollee and have three years to play. Is this a sign that the staff will be coming back?

Don't think he ever had drug charges. He was charged for having booze in his system while driving, not enough for DUI but since he was under 21 any amount is illegal.

I understand those who aren't big on Ash, I just think he's way down the list of issues with this program. The biggest question I have with this move is what Texas thinks they're going to get out of it. Is he going to be a clear upgrade over Ash? We know it's a high risk move but have no idea what the reward will be. Even if McEvoy turns out to be great, will any positive production be nullified by another terrible defense in 2013? I just feel like Texas is all over the map and they're trying to conceal a gunshot wound with a band-aid.

:lol, since those same top rated players the horns have gotten over the past 3 years have been so great. Just to clarify...WR James Clark is uncommitted. He's considered a late bloomer and he's been talking to smaller schools such as Northwestern for a long time. He decided to visit there first because of that reason, but is still open to UT. We should know more on him after Wyatt visits on Wednesday.

As a guy involved in high school camps I can shed light on the 'highly recruited guys' busting out, in particular at Texas. The top recruits are always promised immediate playing time and the overwhelming majority of them just aren't prepared to play as a freshman. Not only are these guys put in too early, but doing so busts their confidence to some extent when they are humbled on the field against more seasoned players.
The staff has been in desperation mode in recent years so we've been playing guys that should obviously be redshirting. It kicks the problem down the road. And that is why we are recruiting JUCO players so hard once again trying to make up for those mistakes. It is desperation at work.

"He said I need to go visit before I decide, he wants to meet my parents and things like that," McEvoy said. "They want to go over some things like the academic side of things."
"I was impressed. He's a great coach. When he was at Boise, he was really successful. He's still a young guy, very energetic, which is the kind of guy I'd like to play for," McEvoy said. "He was very truthful about their quarterback position and the competition. I'm all for that."

I'm not a subscriber, so I cannot see who else they have reached out to.

Manning is announcing tomorrow. Most think it will be OU but don't sleep on A&M here.
Our receiving class is just insane for 2013 but RSJ will join the Aggies as well IMO.

It was mainly just a rundown on where the coaches have visited this week. Nothing on Sawyer other than Darrell Wyatt is taking his film back to Austin. The following are some other stops made:
Chambers = 2014 CB Nick Watkins
Wyatt = 2014 DE Solomon Thomas
Akina = 2014 DE Derick Roberson
Giles = 2014 RB Donald Catalon

24/7 reporting that OL Caleb Benenoch is not expected to officially visit Texas this weekend for banquet. Baylor is now thought to be his pick and the Texas staff has supposedly had limited communication with him in recent weeks.
Kid could have picked wherever he wanted this summer but chose the waiting game and A&M and UT both stopped recruiting him. Should have committed earlier.

I'm hoping Texas has a good feel with both Billings and Harrison.
Benenoch is scheduled to commit on Monday at 11:30 a.m. I think it's Baylor with his brother being there.

Manning never got over getting his feelings hurt by OU not being amongst first offers. Still, I'd be shocked if he goes anywhere but OU.
Now RSJ, I'm 99% convinced he is an ag lock and that comes directly from HS level from players that know him. Which pains me because I've seen him in person post de-commitment and he is more impressive live. Those that say he cannot be a star WR and will turn to TE or DE are not looking closely enough. Top player in state no question. I will always wonder what happened to this recruitment.

There isn't an official visitors list out there for banquet yet, but it should look like the following assuming all of the commitments show up. No commitment is still in the playoffs except for S Erik Huhn and he's been injured all year, so he could still attend. TE Geoff Swaim may not be able to make it in from California and DT A'Shawn Robinson will be officially visiting USC.

Im glad he picked Ags, between them and OU, I rather he goes to a team we don't play. I stopped hearing about him a long time ago and it seems like Robinson jumped him in the rankings but Im sure him and Robinson are 1a and 1b best DT in the class in Texas.
Pretty surprised - thought he was OU bound. 4 of the top 20 DT's verbally committed.

Gotta disagree Mex. Ultimately on surface having Sooners suck seems great. But you need your conference to represent in the end. That has been Texas' problem -- all the money grubbing at the expense of conference partners and you are stuck with teams OK with that and they can't be competitive with other top teams. Texas needs OU to be a top team.
After watching Robinson at the opening I think he is clearly top D-lineman in state - actually close 2nd in state behind only RSJ IMO. Hopefully we can cling on to his recruitment. Thankfully USC has stunk it up this season as well b/c he was really hot on them.

Also, for those wondering about how many guys we have signed and attrition and all that this is what it's looking like for our class:
Currently 33 commits (hopefully 34 with RSJ)
Early enrollees who will count back to last season:
WR Jaquay Williams
LB Reggie Chevis
ATH Alex Sezer
DE Jordan Points
LB Kenny Flowers (juco)
LB Brett Wade
TE Cameron Clear (juco)
OL Jeremiah Stuckey (juco)
8 out of 34 will count back towards last season. The Aggies can count a total of 9 to 11 back to last years class.(not sure) That now leaves the total of commits at 26.
These are the guys that are committed but not expected to make it in:
WR Derrick Griffin (grades)
DT Kerrick Huggins (grades)
DB Victor Davis (grades)
QB Kohl Stewart (MLB)
Now after all this you're looking at 22 commits being counted towards this year which makes a lot more sense for those wondering.

Apparently Texas has reached out to a third JUCO quarterback. This time it is Jake Waters out of Iowa Western. He led Iowa Western to a NJAA National Championship a few days ago. From what I've heard, he was down to Penn State, N.C. State and Kansas State. He threw 39 touchdowns and three interceptions this past season.
