Quotes from the head coach of OL/DL Andrew Billings (OrangeBloods):
"I talked to Andrew's father last night," Waco head coach Marty Herbst said earlier this week. "He's not ready. He wants to go to some ball games. I think it's probably narrowed down to three - Texas, TCU and Baylor probably. But he wants to go to a few games before he pulls the trigger."
"I think at one point in time, each one of those has been his favorite. I think that's why he hasn't pulled the trigger," Herbst said. "He really likes all three of them."
"I saw more out of him this last sat in our scrimmage than I ever would have imagined. He had multiple pancakes on several plays as an offensive lineman," Herbst said. "Then he was dominating so much on defense, we took him out and looked at some younger kids."
"He can play anywhere on the d-line. (Defensive end) is just where we need him. I wish I could show you the scrimmage tape. He was knocking the d-end on his butt, climbing to the safety and knocking him on his butt. It happened several times. I've been doing this for 25 years. You normally recall when a kid had two pancakes on one play. It doesn't usually happen a bunch in an hour and a half time frame, and that includes some all Big 12 players I've coached over the years."

Quotes from 2014 RB/FB Daniel Gresham and 2014 OL Demetrius Knox (24/7):
“I had tears coming down my face,” Gresham said. “I never thought I'd get an offer from Texas. My parent's financial situation isn't up to par. I knew I'd have to get a an athletic scholarship to go to college and it was a dream come true.”
“They were surprised when I got an offer because they didn't know Texas was recruiting me that hard,” Gresham said. “Both of them (Gresham's parents) gave me a big hug and we're throwing me the 'Hook 'Em'. It was real big.”
“I'm certain that's where I want to be,” Gresham said. “I love Texas. Texas is where I want to be.”
“I love doing the dirty work,” Gresham said. “I love somebody coming head up trying to hit me and then knocking their helmet off.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------
“I'd be a Longhorn right now (if Texas had picked up the phone),” Knox said.
“I talked it over with my family and my coaches, and they told me why rush things?,” Knox said. “I'm going to take my time, take some visits and then go from there.”
“Texas, they're my No. 1,” Knox said. “After that there's no real order.”
“At the (summer) camp he (Stacy Searels) was right there with us the whole time and he was into it the whole time,” Knox said. “He's got the energy of an 18-year old. One of the last times we talked he told me that my name is the No. 1 name on their offensive line board and he told me about how much they want me at Texas."
“I honestly cried a little bit,” Knox added. “That meant so much to me.”
“When I step on campus, everything just has to feel right. I have to have that feeling that this is the school for me,” Knox said. “When I went to Texas, I got that feeling. I thought, 'That's the feeling I was looking for.' That had to be it when I was at Texas.”

I hope it wasn't something violent, and no one was hurt. Manny and Oscar must really like Scott to stay interested despite his issues.
Nothing violent, but he's this close to being moved to an alternative school and football would be over. It doesn't help that his transcript is also a mess. I think he'll be suspended for the better part of a month if he is allowed to re-join the team at some point. He's definitely not playing tonight.

Nice job on the video. Appreciate this. Couple of questions:
1.) At the 1:13 mark in the video, I can see Swoopes but can't make out the other guys. What other recruits did you see during pre-game?
2.) How was Harris treated? Did he seem to be enjoying himself?

1. Swoopes was just standing next to a person I think was his dad and skinny little dude who I guess is his good friend from HS. He was taking pictures with fans and signing autographs to little kids. He seems like a very nice down to Earth guy.
Smythe and Nashan Hughes seem to be really good friends, they were hanging out laughing all the time.
2. Marcell Harris was there for business and not just to hang out. He was very serious all the time talking to a person in the staff at all times. I didn't see him talk to any other recruit. My favorite moments was when Akina would walk up to him and Harris' face would lit up with joy and smiles. You can tell that he feels very comfortable around Akina.

yeah, he said he would attend a while ago. definitely best game to go to this year in college station.
i went to florida game versus bowling green and man, they almost lost and took some good luck to get there. it was ugly. i immediately thought that game in college station will be close and was curious as to the spread. i would have put at even, but A&M opened favored by 2-1/2 pts. guess i wasn't only one to watch florida game.

That sucks! I hoped he would have some kind of a Colbert season! Unfortunately not.
Only "good" thing was, that he tore it after an interception! I did the exact same thing to years ago, I tore both my ACL and MCL. If his situation is similar to mine, I would guess he's going to redshirt when he arrives.

A lot of unknowns surrounding A&M going into the game since it's our first. Starting a freshman in that type of environment and against a Florida defense is pretty worrisome as well. Anyone who expects the same Florida team as last week to roll into College Station is crazy also. They will be just as fired up for this game as we will be. It should be a really good game,

Just some quotes from him on all of the schools he's looking at and he went to the South Carolina/Vanderbilt game on Thursday night. His list is still the same (Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas and Vanderbilt):
"We are looking at calendars right now (for official visits)," he said. "We are taking a look at what games I might want to go to. I’m going to take some visits during the season. I’m resting up tomorrow, but I’ve got to make some games."
“I talk to Coach (Duane) Akina a lot. That’s my boy, man. He’s cool people. We’ve got good communication.”
“It’s the people," he said of his decision. "How you get close relationships is to be around coaches. See who they are, you see them around their players, and you think about yourself in the players shoes. Position coaches will be around me every day. I won’t see the head coach everyday, so the position coaches are big for me."

Quotes from the father of S Marcell Harris after the official visit to Texas (OrangeBloods):
"The impressions are from the atmosphere, the facilities, the help that they have academically," Mr. Harris said. "It's the life after football. Coach (Duane) Akina and Coach Mack Brown, both of them are pretty stand-up about everything."
"This time, Marcell got to meet the players. This is the first time being able to take in a game situation, see the preparation of what they do in game day. It was a whole lot different than the other times," Mr. Harris said. "The other times were for camp, things like that, this time saw game situations and spent more time with people to see how it fits himself. It was a lot better this time because we actually did get to see those things. You see them on TV, but having the opportunity to see everything live in person is a lot better. He spent time hanging out with some of the players, so that was good."
"We just want the best situation regardless of where it is. All the schools he's looking at are very good. He wants the best opportunity to play. He wants to play early. Texas gives him that opportunity," Mr. Harris said. "(Kenny) Vaccaro graduates. You can't say anybody is going to step on campus and start, but they have upperclassmen at his position that will be leaving. And the schemes that they play, they play more spread offenses, so they have to keep five or six DBs on the field probably 75 percent of the time. I think that's beneficial also."
"The kid likes Texas," Mr. Harris said. "He saw some of the stuff that you want to see prior to making a decision. I would think that was more of a benefit, to have an opportunity to actually see Texas. He didn't have the opportunity previously before to see the game day atmosphere, see the student body go crazy. The game experience is always better than routine camps. This time he did get to see the campus, meet some influential people while there, the people that would be helping him if he went there."

Kinda retarded since Texas beat a decent Wyoming team that has a very solid QB, and won 8 games and made it to a bowl game last year, while UTEP is a steaming sack of shit that won 5 games last year and kept it close pretty much all game against OU.
Regardless, its the first game, and doesn't mean much. How UT plays in the stretch against OSU, OU, and WVU is where they will find out who they really are.

Recent quotes from 2014 RB Nathan Starks of Las Vegas, NV (24/7):
"Texas is a great school and a great offer," Starks said. "I'm blessed to know they have strong interest in me. They were just letting me know they want me to visit and they think I'd love the city of Austin."
"Oklahoma, USC and Texas are the top three schools I'm choosing from right now," he said. "USC has started showing increased interest and I will see how that develops. I know they run a great program and I'm definitely keeping my eye on them."

Recent quotes from 2014 OL Demetrius Knox (24/7):
“Texas is still my favorite,” said Knox. “They’re my number one. My other favorites are Alabama, TCU, Florida State, Ohio State, Oregon and USC, but Texas is my leader.”
“I love everything about UT,” he explained. “I think it’s a really good fit for me. Plus that is where Daniel (Gresham) is committed and we are going to college together.”
“I’ll be getting down there very soon,” Knox told Hookem.com. “I’ve been eyeing the West Virginia game as the one I’d like to go to. If that didn’t work out, there are a few others I would love to see like TCU, or Oklahoma when they play them in the Cotton Bowl. All of those games are going to be tough and I want to see how Texas stacks up against them.”
“I basically want to see how they run their offense,” Knox said. “The Wyoming game was a little too close for a while, but I really believe it will take a game or two to get the offense rolling like it should be. Other than watching the offense though, I’ve seen all I need to see from Texas. That’s what I want to focus on.”
“I talk to them all the time,” he said. “I just have a great relationship with them. I actually talked to Coach Searels the other day and I told him I wanted to play guard in college because it feels more comfortable. He likes the idea because I’m really light on my feet. We talk all the time about football though.”
“It won’t be during the season,” Knox said of committing. “I don’t want to take anybody’s attention off the real goal, which is winning a state championship.”

**WR Ricky Seals-Jones is having his MRI at some point today so there still isn't any solid news on his injury. The thought continues to be that it's a dislocated kneecap. He is not expected to be in College Station this weekend for the Florida game.
**2014 DE/LB Hoza Scott is supposed to dress for La Porte tonight but is not expected to play. His suspension could come to an end before next week's game.

I would think and hope most A&M fans would give backlash to administration over this. I know when Texas claimed co-conference championship 'asterisk' even though OU won tie-breaker I was embarrassed when it went public.
It made USA Today front page today: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2012/09/texas-a38m-adding-two-national-championship-/1#.UEqRUiKLK7s
"In 1919, Harvard and Illinois were regarded as the national champions among the various rankings. However, the Aggies, who finished 10-0 that season, are making their claim based on the National Championship Foundation, which was formed in 1980 and voted on past champions. The group awarded A&M a share of the title in a three-way tie with Notre Dame and Harvard.
Seem silly? The same National Championship Foundation awarded four schools a national title in 1993 and five schools in 1991.
In 1927, the Aggies went 8-0-1, and Notre Dame and Pittsburgh were regarded as splitting the national championship. However, the Aggies were retroactively crowned No. 1 by a mathematical ranking system developed in 1935 that ran the results from the 1929 season."

This is, in all likelihood, Jason Cook's doing. He's our VP of Marketing. He's either a big hit or a huge miss (see SEC video we took down). He is very well known on TexAgs, and definitely not only for good things. As I've said, I personally do not care about this at all - SEC fans give Alabama shit for it all the time but at the end of the day it does not mean anything. All that matters is winning. If we win, and win consistently, nothing else matters.

playing in SEC west, just being competitive would say a lot. this year you've got to win at least 3 conf games and at least be close in a couple others - i would think that would be a respectable year and something to build on.
i think the logic of adding championships retroactively may sound foolish to some, but the idea is probably to reach the 15-17 year old recruit that doesn't know better so it sounds more competitive with other programs. i can see the logic but i disagree.

so went to UF-TAMU game and must say the stadium was shockingly quiet - in particular in 2nd half. lots of students sitting during the game, and notable that tons of fans were leaving before the game was even over. it got to critical 3rd downs for florida and was relatively quiet. hard to believe considering first SEC game, against florida, and the team played much better than i expected. must say with all the hype about 12th man and talking about stadium noise and such i was not impressed at all. i've been to several texas games there and was always louder. all florida fans said they were used to louder at road games.
funny the experience going in texas gear versus florida gear. as texas fan, people hiding out of sight would scream out racial slurs countless times before and during the game. in florida garb, people saying howdy and greeting me and talking about being in SEC. comical.

I love what I've seen what Santos so far. Nahlin called him a scud missle on kick offs. I agree, but Santos is more accurate than a scud.
When you think about Daje being an 11th hour addition, an addition that Major stuck his neck out for, it scares the hell of you. Thank goodness he ended up at Texas. Electric. He told teammates he wants to hear the cannon every time he touches the ball. It's funny, but Daje actually believes it and can execute it. 3 touches against New Mexico, one score. He could be a difference maker against WVU and OU.
I hope the Texas staff learned with the late 2012 recruits. I don't see as many late bloomers this season, but Texas is wise to keep 3-5 offers in the quiver every fall.
Kendall Sanders had a nice catch. John Harris went up and caught one. McFarland had a much needed touchdown. What a shot in the arm for that young man. DJ Grant also flashed. Magic Mike and Shipley looked good. I think this receiving corps can get there late this season.

This is a recurring theme on TexAgs. The old timers are harping on the underclassmen for not making more noise at the games. Look TAMU's student demographic is changing. TAMU and Texas' students are starting to look a lot alike, suburban kids that are good students. I think we'll see a lot fewer painted overalls in TAMU's stands in the future.
I'm glad the Aggies lost, it'll certainly help Texas' recruiting, but I do feel sorry for them. They keep getting up for this huge games, base their existence on the outcome of the games, and then they get smacked down again. The Cubs - Aggie comparisons are apt. They'll always have vigorous fan bases, but they shouldn't get their hopes up. Both come for cultures that are based on tradition, not winning.

It's an interesting dynamic. I like Allen's speed better, but Hunter and Allen are pretty close talent wise. Hunter had an excellent performance at The Opening, so we know what he can do against elite competition.
I don't think Hunter is close to making a decision. I'd give Allen a week after his visit, and then bring in Hunter for an official visit and an offer.

“We got to talk to the coaches after the game,” explained Knox. “They treated us like family. I even got to watch game film with Coach (Major) Applewhite and he explained their offense to me.”
“They did good,” he said. “They have a lot to work on, but who doesn’t? I think they are going to be a great team in these up and coming years.”
“They're definitely my number one,” Knox said of Texas. “No one is touching them. My friend Jake Raulerson keeps telling me to commit, but I’m still not going to make a choice during the season.”

“He (Billings' father) liked it a lot and kept saying how much he liked it,” Billings said. “He really liked talking to Mack Brown. He was real impressed with Coach Brown and what he had to say.”
“Overall I liked what they (the Texas OL) did,” he said. “With the rotation they had, that was alright with me. They were aggressive, which I liked. I think Coach Searels is pretty close to getting them where he wants them.”

“He’s still been talking about it (the official visit to Texas),” said a source close to his recruitment. “He had a really, really good time. Everyone enjoyed themselves and they all think a lot of Texas. It really helped.”
“Let’s just say it alleviated some minor concerns,” the source said. “Nothing major at all, but any parent has concerns about sending their kid halfway across the country. His mom is a huge factor in his decision, so for Texas to sell her is big. Real big. It doesn’t sound like she has any problems with Texas now.”
“Obviously, it’s been Florida and Texas for a while now,” said the source. “But now you could say its Texas and Florida, if you know what I mean. The longer it plays out, the better for Texas. Marcell is on board. The family is on board. It’s just making sure that the Horns are the right decision over the Gators and that’s not easy. They all like a lot of things about Florida too, just like they do about Texas.”

More from 2014 RB/FB Daniel Gresham and 2014 OL Demetrius Knox (OrangeBloods):
"It was a great experience overall. When went through the tunnel down on the field, I didn't even say anything to Demetrius and he didn't say anything to me, but in the movies they talk about first time you walk on the field and you get chills. He said that happened to him and I said the same thing. The first time being there for me so it was amazing," Gresham said.
"We went up to the coaches' offices and watched film of the game," Gresham said. "Coach Brown was telling us 'I want to stay in touch as much as I can, but I don't want to bug you. I'll Facebook you every now and then. I want you to know I care about you and Texas cares about you, and when someone blows you up and sends you 130 letters, that doesn't mean they care about you more than I do. I'm just letting you breath." Me and Demetrius liked that a lot."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The highlights were the atmosphere," Knox added. "It was crazy. For the first time, I got chills. And the coaching staff and players treated us like we were family already."
"Mack Brown just told us how much he wanted us. He said that he thinks we can make a big impact for their team and help win a national championship," Knox said. "I really wanted to (commit) but I knew it was for the best if I waited."
"It was just amazing - the stadium, the fans. The thing that kind of caught me by surprise, when the game started, I looked up and I could see Demetrius out of the corner of my eye. We both just started laughing. 'Bro, they're playing New Mexico, and there are 100,000 people here. Think if they're playing Baylor or the OU game,'" Knox said. "The fans helped out a lot. Walking down, some random fan came up. He was like 'Demetrius Knox, hope to see you down here. Daniel Gresham, we have big things in store for you.' It felt good that they knew who we were, that theie fans are that committed to the team."
"UT is still No. 1 for me. Nobody is touching them," Knox said.
"But I'm not going to commit during the season," Knox said.

Quotes from 2014 S Edwin Freeman of Arlington Bowie (24/7):
“Right now I have a top three,” said Freeman. “It is currently Texas A&M, Texas and then Oklahoma in that order. I’m still looking at other schools, but those are my three favorite at the moment.”
“Honestly Texas and Texas A&M aren’t that far apart on my favorites list,” he explained. “I mean, yeah, I list the Aggies as my number one, but Texas is right there in the mix too. It’s like a 1A and 1B type deal. I guess you could say they’re both my number ones, but A&M just has a slight advantage because they offered me first.”
“The reason A&M is my number one is pretty simple,” said Freeman. “Like I said, they were my first offer. To me, it seems like they were the first to really get on me and like me, so that stands out. I also like the fact they play in the SEC against the nation’s toughest competition, but them being first to offer is the main reason.”
“Texas is my favorite school and always has been,” Freeman told Hookem.com. “They are who I’ve grown up watching and rooting for. They win a lot and always have great players and coaches. Plus they have success putting guys out at the next level, in the NFL. They do a lot of good things and have a good program.”
“Oklahoma always has had a good program too,” said Freeman. “They’re constantly a contender just like Texas and they seem to always get the best out of their players. They win a lot too. I’m not familiar with them as much as I am Texas and Texas A&M though. I don’t know as much about them.”
“I don’t have any plans to make a decision yet,” Freeman explained. “It won’t be right now for sure. I want to go through my season and see what happens first. I’d also like to see them as well in person, but don’t have any visits setup, so I may have to visit after the season. I don’t really know yet. After that, I’ll take a better look at the schools then go from there. ”
“It really all comes down to competition,” Freeman said. “I want to be around great players and play against great players, because that makes you a great player too when you go up against the best every day. Obviously academics are another big thing for me, because I want to get a degree in case football doesn’t work out. Those are my main two things I want from a school, besides just liking the actual school itself.”

Caleb Benenoch Impressed By Texas A&M, Texas No Longer Leader
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2012/9/12/3323758/caleb-benenoch-texas-aggies-visit-texas-longhorns-no-longer-leader-michigan-state-spartans
A recent visit has shaken things up for one of the top uncommitted prospects in Texas.
Like SBNation.com on Facebook.
Sep 12, 2012 - It's been a wild ride over the last few months for 2013 Katy (TX) Seven Lakes offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch.
Back in the spring, he was committed to Michigan State and his recruitment seemed over. Then, his stock began to explode, the offers started pouring in, and the 6-5, 321-pounder who projects as an interior lineman at the next level decided to open up his recruitment.
He picked up a Texas offer at a summer camp in early June after having some success against Texas pledge Jake Raulerson, who knows Benenoch from the camp circuit, and then picked up another from Oklahoma at a satellite camp in Houston. It was at that time that he decided to decommit from the Spartans.
Having grown up a Longhorn fan, Benenoch named Texas as his leader and had planned to announce during his homecoming game in late September. However, an offer from UCLA pushed back his timetable to after the season, and he currently plans on taking some of his official visits at that time.
The most recent trip for Benenoch was the short drive from the Houston area to College Station, where he took in the Texas A&M-Florida contest. The atmosphere impressed the big, raw lineman ($):
It was crazy, I give it a 10 out of 10. I've never seen anything like that before. From the moment we walked in, to when they started playing those videos, the crowd and the 12th Man, it was ridiculous. I couldn't hear myself think sometimes because it was so loud. I got this chills standing on the sideline before the game.
It was the best college football environment I've ever seen. I'm looking forward to comparing it to all the other visits I take like when I go to UT, UCLA and places like that. Hands down, A&M was the best I've seen yet. Baylor was pretty crazy last weekend but it was on a whole different level at Kyle Field.
Kyle Field made such an impression on Benenoch that he backed off days later from talk that Texas is his leader ($):
Texas used to be, but I'm not too sure anymore. I went to the Texas A&M-Florida game and the atmosphere was really good. Now I just want to take these visits to games and see how it is at each school - see how the atmosphere is.
The next official visit for the Seven Lakes product is to Oklahoma next weekend to take in the game against Kansas State in the Big 12 opener for both schools.
With Benenoch now open-minded about the process, which school will eventually win out for his services?

This was written from the perspective of Sherrod Harris and is total bullshit. The reality is if he was the world beater the article portrayed him to be, the staff would not have benched him. He's also portrayed as if he was the top player in state or national 5* when in reality there was no more fan fare for his recruitment that any other recruit Texas goes after. The kid let the hype get to his head and never put in the work it takes.
You ever watch Sherrod and McCoy warm-up pre-game? I have from the sidelines several times. From 15 yards away McCoy would put the ball in the receivers hands 99.9% of the time. With Sherrod it was about 50% of the time, the other half the receiver would have to outstretch arms to pull it in.
So Texas doesn't want RSJ because he's visiting USC and Oregon?

He's the best player in the state and by all reports the Texas staff thinks this. I am sure the staff wouldn't stop recruiting him just because of wanting to take visits. Sure the staff just thinks the ship has sailed, or concerns over... well, it should go unsaid with Oregon's history recruiting in Texas. Hopefully it is not that because this kid is a tremendous talent. Sad to see Texas out of it.

Besides the irrelevance of how highly ranked and recruited he was as a high school player, my reason for feeling that its fucked up is behind Mack playing Gilbert over Harris in the Championship game after telling Harris that he would play. Then Not allowing the guy to transfer was the worst disservice because it completely handicaps the kids chances for future success. Im definitely not upset about McCoy playing over him for obvious reasons. McCoy was one of the best quarterbacks to ever play at Texas so no pity from me there. The better man plays point blank, but its hard to believe that Gilbert was so much better than Harris considering the stage they were playing on and Harris' time spent in the program along with his knowledge of the offense. I don't pretend to know the truth about it all so Im just speaking from what I have read. Their is definitely two sides to a story and this could all be bullshit like u said.

I've been to several practices and seen him from sidelines and Harris simply was not even remotely accurate. He was a significant drop-off from Gilbert. I doubt the coaches told him he was the man. But we'll all never know.

There's definitely some bias in that write-up but what I found most interesting is the Gilbert angle. Mack truly bet the farm on the kid without having any sort of contingency plan in place and the Texas program is still paying for it.

Hard to give my view without looking like a bitter Texas homer because I'm not at all and only mildly surprised by this, but I think Mack and his staff have simply grown tired of the circus. They've done their best since June to accommodate RSJ's family and his overly-involved AAU coach, but there are certain lines they're just not going to cross. It doesn't matter that Texas is RSJ's favorite (emphasis on RSJ) because those around him have other plans.
Every recruiting cycle Texas is accused of pulling out of certain races because they're spoiled, want everyone to commit right away or are unwilling to put in the effort, but more often than not they end up looking smart because they had their reasons for doing so. It has nothing to do with his knee injury because Mack always honors scholarship offers to injured players. Hicks, James and Huhn are three examples in the 2013 class alone. I'm glad it's over but it's a shame because RSJ may not end up where he wants to go and Texas misses out on a great talent.
I'm looking for WR Torii Hunter, Jr. or another OOS guy to be offered soon.

This is, somehow, a weird situation. I really wanna know why they stopped recruiting him. I share your thoughts Floss, about the people around having other plans.
Another thing I really would like to know is, what have the staff told RSJ? Has they told anything? Has Texas actually pulled the offer, or did they just stop recruiting him? Has they told that they're not going to "waste" more time, but that can commit if wants to? Maybe they went straight with him, and told him "This is everything we have. We cannot offer you anything else than we already have. Take it or leave it, but we will move forward". I hope the best for Ricky and I hope that he ends up where he wants to, and not the people around him hope.
Anybody who know how Texas stands with Robbie Rhodes? Are Texas still actively recruiting him or should we hang our hats on Devon Allen and Torii Hunter Jr.?

Seems odd but I think it's pretty straight forward. Texas has come to the conclusion that it's not an uphill battle but a senseless battle. They aren't willing to meet certain requirements so that's that. Time to focus elsewhere despite everything looking good on the surface.
Anybody who know how Texas stands with Robbie Rhodes? Are Texas still actively recruiting him or should we hang our hats on Devon Allen and Torii Hunter Jr.?
Haven't seen a thing on Rhodes but definitely possible that Wyatt is still talking to him every now and then. I don't think Texas is quite ready to move on another receiver even though an offer to Hunter would put them in a great position. He wants to return to Austin once he gets some of his official visits out of the way. 24/7 has been hinting that an out-of-state name could pop up.

I don't believe anyone has mentioned the possibility that UT moved on due to possible re-evalutions of WR's.
RSJ....not so sure---concern is/was he would get bigger eventually outgrow wr position (hence all chatter of future being @ TE). Mack alleviated some of the concern by coming out and stating he would be recruited only as a WR. 5 Star talent intent on playing only wideout~~~I present another hypeno name that is/was 5 star recruit who has better measurables than RSJ and that is DGB (who also was recruited by UT and swayed by a copter sighting)
DGB is now a flex tight end @ kitty Mizzu. May make sense because of the O that kitten runs, they can make it a fit. Did Mack use this to possibly re-address what RSJ brings to table?
We have a run centric offense that requires a commited & physical TE's (block & catch) to set edges and run up seams. Made even more obvious by failure of current players(TE) on roster. I don't see RSJ filling this need at this position (especially if his heart ain't in it)
Allen & Hunter are & will continue to be WR type that played themselves into offers @ TEXAS. I will not be suprised that both receive & accept offers to play on the 40.

A talent like RSJ will always be needed in a team, I don't care if it's the greatest running offense of all time. The question is, does RSJ want to play for a team like that.
Let's face it, we lost the recruiting battle and it was time to move on.

Not a light Mex but a confluence of factors that resulted in Texas moving on.
Texas will no longer be a spread "O" under Mack,so yes, maybe a talent such as RSJ who does not want to play another position would not help TEXAS if he were to outgrow his current desired position.
I'm fine with that...he decommitted with an offer and Texas decided to pull offer since he is now open to looking at Trojan/Duck with AAU coach driving the bus...you can say we lost the recruiting battle i choose to say we cut ties.

He decommitted. Texas chose not to pursue. How many of these players that decommit has Texas reeled back in? They get burned on this signing day shit time after time. So, they probably said enough is enough (especially with that AAU coach) and moved onto the next target. Kid's a stud though.

Even a team like Alabama with Richardson and Ingram needed Julio Jones to win at times. But anyway, it's absurd to compare with other teams. Texas is moving on and maybe one day we will found out why but for now I'm just going to think that we lost the battle. Maybe not even to a specific team, coaches just realized that it is a battle that they will lose and it was a waste of time to continue pursuing.

Maybe it's not just a dislocated knee and Texas doesn't want to deal with that? The whole thing seems crazy to me. Any theories TFLoss or Bill? Anyone know any more detailed "inside" info? TexAgs can't believe it either.
I don't need an insider, because it's pretty simple why we derailed recruiting RSJ.
AAU coach steering RSJ's ship = not good. AAU is the dirtiest thing going in all of HS sports right now. It's probation waiting to happen.
If Oregon, USC and A&M want to continue, so be it. Have fun letting one player drag down your program. I think I'll pass on it.

I think A&M would be the least likely of those three to continue if that were the case, but none of us know what the fuck happened.

Encouraging quotes on 2014 WR KD Cannon from an anonymous source (24/7):
"He's saying that he's open but it sounds like it's all Texas," said a source. "Texas appears to be the top school on his radar for sure. Don't be surprised at all if they land him in the end."
"When he got that offer from Texas, it was like getting his dream school offer," the source said. "He just wants to be sure and also wants to take a look around. Who can blame him? He's a kid and people forget that. But I can tell you for sure that Texas is sitting in the best place with him. They have the best shot out of anyone."

Latest with JUCO DE Randy Gregory after breaking his fibula in practice (24/7):
“It actually happened in practice,” explained Gregory. “We were practicing and next thing I know, I broke my fibula. I’m out for the season. I don’t expect to play at all anymore this year. I hate it, but there’s nothing I can do, you know?”
“Obviously he (Giles) can’t come see me play now, which I hate even worse than being injured,” Gregory said. “But luckily they are going to continue to recruit me. They have a lot of film of mine from last season and the first game or two of this season. So they can review that and we can go from there. They actually told my coaches that they still will continue to recruit me, so that’s big for me. I really appreciate that they will keep on, because most schools wouldn’t. That says a lot about them.”
“I’ll wait to see what Coach Giles tells me first. If they’re serious about recruiting me and an offer might come, then I’ll definitely take a visit, for sure,” said Gregory. “If not, then I really don’t know. I’m going to play it by ear and see. I really hope to though.”
“I have offers from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa St, Indiana and others, but I’m sticking with Purdue right now,” Gregory told Hookem.com. “I will take some other visits, probably to Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri for sure, but I’m still solid with Purdue.”
“It would give me a lot to think about (if Texas offered),” he said. “There’s no denying that. Texas is a great school with a lot going on for it. You would be crazy to not want to be a part of that.”

So you were only concerned about AAU after he dropped his commit from texas?
Actually, reports out there that the Texas coaches just put pressure on RSJ to commit and not take visits. When he didn't commit they then decided to focus on other recruits. RSJ supposedly heard via internet that the Texas coaches were not recruiting him further and was not happy about it - as according to him Texas was still in the lead. No substance at this point to any claims about AAU or anything of the sort.
If this turns to be true we stopped recruiting him just b/c he would not commit I will not be happy - he is too big a talent to get arrogant about and IMO the #1 recruit in Texas. :bang
Makes me wonder if injury or personal issues are a concern with coaches?
Texas has repeatedly rolled out the red carpet, and he's done nothing but play games. Sounds like he doesn't even know which sport he wants to play.

Could be a indication that they arent so confident with Vonn Bell or Harris. Inspite of doing a exellent job with harris' recruitment, they still know that Florida is gonna be a strong competitor even if we flat out out recruit them, just based off of the conveniency of proximity with Florida and the fact that his father went there.

Whatever. His son just got kicked to the curb because he wouldn't stop the dramafest. Of course he is going to say that.
RSJ wanted to continue to string Texas along and they were no longer playing that. They are too good of a recruiting school to let one high profile kid hold them hostage. Perhaps this winds up being a blessing in disguise.

If RSJ goes to TAMU then that will be RSJ, Thomas Johnson, Derrick Griffen, and EZ... Now I'm not an aggie fan, but i'f those guys pan out that could be a deadly receiving corps. Knee injury or not there is zero reason why we should stop recruiting a kid that could easily be an early playmaker on offense and defense...

Gonna have to disagree with the comments here. RSJ is the best player in state and the Texas staff is paid top dollar to put in long hours to reel in talent that wins championships. Getting the 5* players will always be 100x harder b/c everybody puts it all on the line resource wise b/c guys like this win championships. To act like Texas is above this when the Bamas, USCs and LSUs grind out these recruitments does not make sense to me. Regarding Hunter Jr and Devon Allen, they are simply not the same caliber player nor do they have the upside of RSJ.
I can assure you there is more to the recruitment than we will ever know. Although I do not want to pass speculation off as fact, we do know he de-committed without the knowledge of his high school coach who was shocked at the news. Then, his AAU coach became involved in his recruitment and made a trip to Austin with RSJ. I don't want treat this as shenanigans just because he is getting help from his AAU coach b/c lots of these people could be good role models in a recruits life. However, I don't see how Texas would just drop RSJ based on speculation we didn't want to deal with prima donnas - when we wait for several top recruits to the end every year. That just doesn't make sense.

How do we know that RSJ is the best player in the state? Because Ketch and Rivals says so? No single player is good enough to get worked up over losing. As good as Vince was he still had another 27 guys on that roster that made it to the NFL besides him.
I remember when we cried about losing Calhoun and Washington, neither has panned out.
Remember the can't miss Fred Rouse or Perrloser
RSJ is no can't miss prospect, he is going to be a TE by the time he reports to camp and he doesn't want to accept this fact.
Now I don't know if RSJ is being manipulated, but Texas has 2 guys committed that have season ending knee injuries. Both are lesser prospects than RSJ. So we know not recruiting him has nothing to do with his injury.
We recruited Jeffcoat to the end same with Hicks and a few guys we missed on, so we know we are willing to stick it out as kids drag out their recruitment.
So why do we stop recruiting a kid like him?
I think we know the real reason, it's the fire at the root of all that smoke.

Per OrangeBloods, Texas has been in contact with WR Robbie Rhodes in the past week. Highly doubtful that this is the first time they've contacted him since he committed to Baylor, but good to know there is still communication. Also have to consider Arkansas could throw some money at Briles once the season ends.
