Since I have just began following this class, who are the must gets the rest of the way for us? I understand Swoopes and Seals-Jones were big ones, can someone else fill me in on what to expect? How is this class going to look? Sorry, I have been really busy since the '12 class signed!

Kent Perkins is the top guy right now. Then guys like Darius James and some Offensive Linemen and receivers. After the next few commits I think it will slow down for a while.

The espn thing is a typo btw.

Quotes from LB Mike Mitchell after JD2:

"I thought it was awesome. The practice was probably the best part. We got to watch them practice their spring training. It was really organized," Mitchell said. "I was keeping an eye on their middle linebacker so I could kind of compare myself to him."

"I think I would fit in perfect with their 4-3 scheme and the way they blitz their linebackers is definitely my kind of style," Mitchell said.

"We talked to him (Diaz) for a while. I really liked him a lot. He was really nice," Mitchell said. "He went over a lot of football with us too. Some coaches don't really talk a lot of football at junior days but he went over a lot of football and how much they're a family program and how he doesn't care how old you are. If you're good enough to play you're good enough to play."

"We were talking about recruiting and they were definitely interested in me," he said. "They wanted to know how interested I was in them. They only have a limited number of scholarships so they're trying to be conservative with their scholarships and don't want to give them out to guys who aren't very interested in them."

"Definitely top 3," Mitchell said. "They're like top three or five with Ohio St., Baylor, (Texas) A&M, and Florida would be up there."

Perkins is probably the best pure Left Tackle to come out of Texas in 5 years. Kent is truth. Watch him pass him Estelle or Hughes in a few years. Big time pick up. Now go get James.

Side note, GH believes Texas is very serious about Maurice Porter, so much so that they him ranked ahead of Josh Thomas. Porter should be a priority. Texas must take at least 1 more OT in this class.

From UT:

Texas junior LB Demarco Cobbs is being held out of spring drills as the medical staff continues to evaluate an injury condition relating to his neck, Longhorns Head Athletic Trainer for Football Kenny Boyd said on Monday. There is no timetable on his return. Boyd added that sophomore WR John Harris also is not participating in spring workouts as he continues to rehabilitate a right foot injury. He is expected to miss at least the first half of spring drills, Boyd said.

Trent Williams is a darn good NFL OT. Jason Smith and J'Marcus Webb also come to mind. Perkins could be more athletic than all of them.

In a related note, I'm really impressed with A'Shawn Robinson's athleticism in basketball. Very impressive reports from Arlington Martin's basketball playoff run.

Quotes from Perkins:

"Coach Brown really made me decide for Texas because he asked me some questions I really needed to hear," Perkins said. "He asked me a lot about academics and other parts of college life."

"I liked the tempo of the practice and how hard the guys worked," said the 6-foot-5, 285-pound Perkins. "And Coach Searels is a funny, funny guy. He seems like a nice guy to be around. All the players were smiling and laughing in the film study, and it was good I got to see how he coaches his players."

That's a five-star pick-up as far as grayshirts go; a talented prospect that doesn't count against your 2013 numbers. I know a lot of people that follow UT recruiting were upset that Naashon wasn't offered initially, but you had to think he would somehow make his way into this class. Hopefully that's the last big push that OL Darius James needs to pull the trigger.

OL Kent Perkins

02-28-2012, 10:35 AM
Quotes from OL Kent Perkins and his high school coaches:

"As an eighth grader playing football at Lake Highlands Junior High, I felt sorry for the little kids he was having to play against. That's the basic truth," Lake Highlands head coach Scott Smith said. "As an eighth grader he was probably a little bit bigger than he is now because he had a lot more baby weight on him. He was about 6-6, maybe 315-320. So he was stepping out on that field playing football against a bunch of eighth graders. There aren't a lot of eighth graders that are that size. It was a humorous deal."

"Basically what the eighth grade coach would do is walk Kent out for the coin flip and from that point the game was pretty much over. You can imagine what that looked like with the officials looking up to him and three other eighth graders from the other team looking at him."

"The eighth graders play on Tuesday night down at the stadium here and when I watched him as an eighth grader I made sure I was there every Tuesday night to ensure he was going to be at Lake Highlands as a freshman," Urbantke said. "When I saw him as an eighth grader I was like 'Oh goodness, we're going to have us one here.'"

"Actually, as a seventh and eighth grader and even as a ninth grader, he played basketball. And to see a body that large run up and down the court at the pace and quickness he was doing it you knew there were some skills there that the average guy doesn't have," coach Smith said. "So coming in as a freshman we knew that."

"We knew we wanted him to have the opportunity to compete against guys that maybe weren't physically bigger than him but were maybe smarter in the game or more advanced in their techniques and skills and probably physically stronger than him," Smith said. "So when he lined up in practice against them he had to really challenge himself to get better. As the year went on you saw those things start to develop and saw his mindset changing a little."

"We're a spread option team and everyone who plays us knows we run to the right 70-percent of the time," coach Urbantke said. "When he moved into a starting position the guy we had at left tackle was a returning starter, and we're right handed dominated and we run the ball 65 - 70-percent of the time and it's to the right side. And when we run left we're running counter left and we're pulling him. That's the reason he's been on the right side. I haven't ever moved him back because we've had a right-handed quarterback that when we run option we liked to pitch it with his right hand."

"Football-wise I've been working on run blocking, pass protection, cutting linebackers, taking that right angle, getting my stamina up so I can last through the fourth quarter, stuff like that," Perkins said.

"Last year I started seeing the leadership come out in him," coach Urbantke said. "Being a sophomore and a freshman he would kind of sit back. He still got in there and mixed it up but his leadership was the big deal that came along last year as a junior. And his pass pro, just getting comfortable. We don't throw the ball a ton but we're about 60-40 and he played some of the better defensive ends against the Skyline's and he didn't give up a sack last year."

"I'm not sure he'll ever be that loud outspoken guy," coach Smith said. "He'll be the guy who shows up every day and challenges everyone on the field in the weight room and in the classroom to be the best he can be."

"He's very coachable, very respectful, never been in trouble, never been a grade problem. He's very reliable," coach Urbantke said. "He's going to do exactly what I ask of him and that's been the aspect of Kent. You don't have to worry about his behavior anywhere. He's huge, he's fast, he's strong, but just to go along with his personality he's a great student athlete. He's going to be a good one."

"I heard [coach Searels] was jumping up and down and things like that," Perkins said.

"He's a special kid and special football player and special athlete," coach Smith said. "It's not one of those things you see every day."

Quotes from the high school coach of ATH Naashon Hughes:

"He did commit. He just talked to coach Brown. Right now, he's considered to be offered a greyshirt," Harker Heights head coach Mike Mullins said. "From that standpoint, if something happens between now and then, he'll be right there (for an offer towards the 2013 class). Right now, he'll go through and graduate with his class. Then he'll be six month on his own of taking classes, then be first commitment next January for (the recruiting class of) 2014."

"He's always liked them and he said he'd just feel more comfortable doing that. He called me last night and said he wanted to call coach Brown this morning."

"He's an athlete. He can play anything from wide receiver, tight end, outside linebacker, free safety or even be a down defensive lineman on the line," Mullins said. "There's just so much upside to him in different places. He's 6-4, can play in space, which is appealing to a lot of people. And just being such a great kid and hard worker, that combined makes him an excellent young man."

"Just in talking to him, he always liked Texas. It's probably been his first choice all along," Mullins said. "No matter the route to get there, that's what he wanted to do. He entertained offers from LSU, South Carolina and Baylor, but for him, being comfortable there, knowing the people there, it just seemed right for him no matter how he had to make it work."

I agree floss. Thats as good as it gets for a grayshirt guy, especially considering that he wasnt necessarily forced into that option at the end of the recruiting period like some guys at LSU or Alabama have been as a result of over recruitment. The coaches were straight up with Naasshon about the situation and Naashon made this decision on his own. Good note on how big this is on us getting Darius James, that element had slipped my mind. Wont be long now with Darius.

I think its sooner than later. If not sooner, its almost inevitable to happen. Come on, he says he wants to go to the same school as Naashon and then Camrhon is already there. I think he just wants people to be on their toes about him committing to build his own hype. I dont mind.

Alabama offered CB Maurice Smith of Fort Bend Dulles today.

Quotes from him after JD2:

"It was great," Smith said. "We got to see them practice. It was the second day of spring practice. We got to see how the coaches interacted with the players and got to go in the film room with them. It was great. Then we got to talk to the academic staff and the tutors and got to see the dorm rooms. I liked it."

"It was a great experience. I've never gotten to see a coach interact with the players like that and how he got into it and showed them," Smith said. "He acted as if we were already part of the team and was basically evaluating the players and showing them what they needed to do on the plays they filmed in practice. It was great."

"I saw some of the coverages they were running in practice today and I picked up on a few things," he said. "They have some similarities with what we run at my school. They run a base 4-3 and I got to pick up on some of the coverages and the checks they do."

"I got to talk to coach Akina, and he was very excited," he said. "He got a good chance to talk to me and we went back and forth on how we felt about it. He said he didn't want to offer anyone so I wasn't hurt by it. We got a chance to talk and he said I was a great athlete. It was great and even though I didn't get offered I still liked the experience."

I think Darius James just wants to take a couple visits aside from Texas to see what else is out there, and that should be done by March. He has OU next weekend and I believe other one is LSU in mid-March. I would be surprised if he doesn't commit to Texas shortly after doing those visits. Not a bad thing for him to see what else is out there so he is confident in his decision - instead of committing and then having second thoughts.

"When I arrived at Texas, the coaches made me feel at home when I got there," Hall said. "My mom liked it and my family liked it a lot so we talked about it. She told me it was up to me if I wanted to commit or not, and I was like 'I might commit, let me think about it a little more.'"

"Me and my mom picked out the pros and cons of all the schools recruiting me and we thought Texas was the best one for me to achieve academic success and probably play at the next level," he said.

"The stadium was off the charts - 101,000," Hall said. "Then coach (Oscar) Giles, the way he runs defensive ends with the stunts and stuff in the 4-3 or 3-4, and we can stand up and play a little linebacker coverage. It stood over everybody."

"He (Giles) incorporated me in some stuff," Hall said. "When he was showing us defensive stunts he showed me how I fit in. He had some of my highlight clips. Like me rushing the passer."

"When I come to Texas I'm going to work hard to get a national championship, and I'm going to rush the passer and get the quarterbacks on their backs because I know the Big 12 throws a lot," Hall said. "I'm just going to give 110 percent."

"I always thought I was going to be a basketball dude when I was in Seattle, but (the Lancaster coaches) told me I had a good shot if I just worked hard I would be at the next level in college," Hall said. "I kept that in my head, but when I started playing and more and more colleges started talking to me it started happening."

"I've only been there (Austin) twice. This was my second time. I loved it," Thomas said. "After today, they're still in my top three. Exactly where, I don't know because I haven't made an actual list. But I know they'd be in my top three."

"They kind wanted to of find out who wants to be there," Thomas said. "They told us to go to your position coach, tell him if you really like it. If not, they don't want to waste your time or waste their time."

"It's more of a family atmosphere and I'm a big about family. It's a family atmosphere, a family surrounding. The wives were around and involved, the kids were having fun," Thomas said. "They weren't hiding anything. They were being upfront, letting you know this is how it is. It was a really good eye opener."

"It was more tempo. It's a lot faster tempo than at high school," Thomas said. "It would take some time to get used to. It was a lot of the same offense we run so I kind of related to everything they were calling out. I understand it perfectly."

The Gold Standard to the LHN's fiat practice report, The Asset is back with the goods on workout number 3.

Qbs- Ash then Case then Brewer

Ash had a solid day according to the Asset. He suffered no picks and was really accurate and on time with throws in the pocket, and showed some accuracy outside of it with some good throws on the run.

Perhaps his best showing came when he was toting the rock. The Asset tells us that David simply killed the zone read with his decision making and ability to tuck and run when he called his own number. How did it look as a package? The Asset says, "The zone read was dominant today."

Case had a great day by his standards because his ball had some zip on it. Case had a bad pick when he felt some pocket pressure and this is where he looks like he simply has no chance. He's so uncomfortable in pocket The Asset says. Case did have some good runs on scrambles and a designed run play or two.

Brewer was okay, but he struggles mightily when forced to throw on the run or on boots and waggles. He's still working out kinks but did decently today for his first time in full pads.

Overall, to a man, the QBs threw the underneath timing routes beautifully--right on the body of the receiver and right on time. The Asset credits Coach Harsin here because he's worked so hard on this area with his charges. QB position seems to be much more consistent than it was this time last season. Lots of upbeat, confident reps from the guys.

Rbs- Brown & Bergeron

50/50 in snap allocation, and both had good days The Asset says.
Brown had some good reads and hit the hole. The patience/vision drills with Coach Applewhte seem to be paying off. He had some really solid carries.

Bergeron threw some nasty blocks for QB's on some protected boots and roll-outs, out of the backfield. He's truly a hybrid TB/FB/HB in this offense. On one carry, he absolutely mauled Carrington Byndom after a 20 yard run off the zone read. It was a big pop and looked like it hurt the starting CB. Again, there were some really productive runs in "ones against ones" and the offense seemed to get theirs in the zone read package. That's saying something when you can do it against this Texas front 7.

TEs- Grant, MJ followed by Terrell and Barrett

Grant had an amazing grab over Mykelle Thompson where Mykkelle got a flag for PI. DJ looks like he's getting some of that athleticism back that made him one of the top TE prospects coming out of high school.

The other TE's had some catches on crossing routes The Asset says. Barrett is the best blocker in the run game while it seems DJ is the pass catcher of the group. MJ is probably the best all around, but DJ will push him if he can improve his ability to chip in the passing game and be a more productive blocker in the rushing attack.
The staff worked DJ's ass today trying to get him to chip better.

WRs- Jaxon Shipley, Mike Davis, Desean Hales, Miles Onyegbule, Marquise Goodwin

That's right, Goodwin got some run today and looked okay. They even had Monroe lined up at WR some as well.

Jaxon had some great routes and a few catches, but he got absolutely mauled by Vaccaro at the line of scrimmage in the slot, but eventually found his feet and made a play.

Mike Davis is catching the ball wherever it's thrown, and The Asset says, "It's just weird to see. He's a different guy."

Desean is catching the ball fine, and working on protecting the ball after the catch.

Miles Onyegbule has a nasty Michael Irvin styled push off move The Asset says. He's a big, strong kid that seems to be getting a chip on his shoulder.

Marquise was okay, but he looks rusty.

The Asset says, all the WRs did a great job of getting off the line today and getting into their routes. It was also interesting to note that we worked a lot on the short timing routes and catching the ball and getting it tucked away before taking the big shot. If there's a defense to help you practice this part of the game, Manny Diaz has the team. Offensively our quick game today really set up the deep ball because with a little fake, we hit some plays over the top later in the day.

Overall, it was a really good day for the passing game as a whole.

OL- Same 5 Hawkins, Hopkins, Espinsosa, Walters, Cochran

The entire unit is looking better according to The Asset. Now that everyone is at their natural position, especially Hopkins, it seems like they're starting to protect better and open some holes in the running game. It doesn't hurt that this unit has some snaps under their belt. Cochran and Hawkins are learning with every snap because they're facing really good athletes. They win some and lose some but they're taking steps forward every time out and that's good news. Even better news is the interior group can be as good as any in conference if Espy can hold the point, because if he's allowed to get to the next level he's got the feet to get a radar lock on the LB.

DE- Okafor, Wilson, Reed

This group had some pressures and would have had some sacks but the QB is off limits. Manny's trying to develop some depth with Reed and Wilson, and they had some bright spots rushing the passer. In the running game, they were confounded says the Asset, especially against the zone read.

DT- Dorsey, Jackson, Moore, Whaley

This group is actually having to work a little harder now that the interior seems to be shored up and Harsin's schemes seem to be making this group think instead of attack. The Dline got some penetration today, but not on virtually every play like last year. Can you tell The Asset was please with the Oline play today? I could. No one is worried about this group, however, because they basically have four starters and lots of talent. Malcom Brown is on the way, and Coach Davis let his guys know it after a couple of poor plays.

LBs- Hicks, Edmond, Tevin

They looked good today, says The Asset, especially Edmond. "He's a big dude that gets downhill in a hurry and there's no falling forward for an extra yard with this guy." said The Asset.

Tevin Jackson and Jordan Hicks played okay, and both would have killed some folks on crossing routes but it's team drills and there's no "detonate" in team so they pulled up. Again, Manny is working on underneath coverage concepts with his LB's.
De la Torre had a freshman type of day, and looked lost in coverage.

DBs- Vaccaro, Thompson, Diggs, Byndom

You could tell Vaccaro has been waiting months for the pads to come back on because he was as physical and nasty as you could be in a team setting.

Mykelle almost had a pick playing centerfield and showed the range that makes Akina salivate. He got an attaboy from Coach Stache for getting to the ball, but also received some "coaching" for not finishing the play.

Byndom is showing why he may be one of the best cover men in the conference because he often runs the receivers' routes for them. He also served as Joe Bergeron's personal rag doll after a 20 yard jaunt.

Diggs was more solid today because with the pads on he's allowed to play his brand of physical football according to the Asset.

One interesting note, it lookd like Turner was playing a little safety on 2nd team today and he looked good doing it. The Asset says Turner is probably better suited with his eyes on the QB because he can use his natural physical ability to make plays. Technique wise, he's probably not there yet, so hence the audition at safety.

Also, one final bit of good news courtesy of The Asset. Cobbs was suited up in full pads while doing his rehab (conditioning) today. No green jersey or neck brace or anything like that. Kid's a football player so he wore football pads.

I'd ask everybody to be patient on Darius James committing to Texas. He's coming, just let him make his visits. Remember recruiting visits are fun, and this could be his only chance to be wooed.

RE: Samples, you have to wonder his ship is still there. I think Warrick and Samples are redundant. Burton will argue with you on that, but they play the same position. Unless the plan is to take Samples and move Warrick to corner, I don't see how adding Samples makes much sense. He's a talent, but he's not a talent you make room for. Again I personally prefer Massington, and it's not even close.

"Basically, the coaching staff (reason for committing). I know everybody, it has that family feel to it," Hughes said. "They actually care about their players. I like the fact that you feel that they care about you more than just as a player."

"I talked to coach Diaz about that at the junior day," Hughes said. "He talked about me playing a lot of same things I play now, kind of a down safety, outside linebacker hybrid."

"I talked to him (Camrhon Hughes) a lot the past couple of days. He's been trying to get me to commit ever since he did," Hughes said. "He tells me it's a lot of fun there, that I'll enjoy myself while I'm there. He says all good things about it."

Anyone know why Chet Moss isnt practicing?

I don't know if any of the Jesus fans saw him recently mention Moss as an attrition candidate because of off-the-field issues, but here's this from his Facebook:

"Longhorn Nation... it's about to be released to public, but I'm not doing spring football for the time being. I'm in a ton of hours, and I have a lot of class conflicts with practice times. Need to get my grades up anyways. It's something I need to do with the recent changes I've made in my life, and honestly it's something I can do with the fullback spot being wide open. So copy this on OB or whatever, but I'll definitely be playing 2012 season. Don't take it the wrong way."

OT Trenton Brown hopes to add Texas offer http://a.espncdn.com/i/in.gif

The Longhorns are still trying to figure out what offensive linemen to offer in 2013 aside from Kent Perkins (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/143684/kent-perkins), who has committed, and Darius James (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/143547/darius-james), who might do so soon.

One player that would love to be in the mix is Trenton Brown (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/89260/trenton-brown) (Albany, Ga./Georgia Military College).

**DT Joey Bosa of Fort Lauderdale, FL had a follow-up conversation with Manny Diaz and Bo Davis this week after the staff had the opportunity to watch his film. There's still not a whole lot of movement but the interest is mutual and Bosa says an offer from UT would put them at the top of his list.

**A new name to look out for is TE Charlie Reid of FW All-Saints Episcopal. He had an invite to JD2 but was unable to make it down to Austin. He's definitely a guy to watch during the spring evaluation period and was recently offered by TCU.

**TE Durham Smythe will be at Stanford this weekend.

**S Kameron Miles picked up an offer from West Virginia this week.

**WR Ra'Shaad Samples received an offer from Nebraska.

**CB Maurice Smith added Notre Dame to his list.

**OLB Reggie Chevis pulled in offers from Iowa State, LSU and Texas A&M.

**OL Maurice Porter received offers from Alabama and West Virginia. He's scheduled to visit OU this Saturday, Baylor on Sunday and Texas Tech later in the month.

**Two big names to remember for 2014; DB Cedric Collins of Dallas Skyline and ATH Nick Harvey of Lancaster. Collins has been offered by Baylor and Harvey picked up Baylor and Texas A&M.

Some honest questions, is Maurice Porter Alabama's Number 1 Priority at OT? If Porter called Saban today could he commit? Would his commitment be honored if Alabama landed other target? Has Porter spoken directly to Saban?

Does Saban speak directly to each player that receives an offer? If no, an Alabama offer might as well be rainbow dust and unicorn milk.

I'm not saying Bama's recruiting philosophy isn't effective, but it's dishonest. Not every offer is real. I hope every Texas kid asks himself the aforementioned questions before getting interested in Bama.

I'm not saying Bama's recruiting philosophy isn't effective, but it's dishonest. Not every offer is real. I hope every Texas kid asks himself the aforementioned questions before getting interested in Bama.

In other news, my personal favorite Dalton Santos recently ran a 23.8 200m at 252 pounds. Pretty darn good for a kid that's too slow to drop back in coverage.

On the horn they kind of discussed what Alabama does when they get commits from those that aren't top priorities. They force them to gray shirt if they want to go to bama. If true it sucks for the recruits who could spent their time on other schools that have a genuine interest in them.

PREACH!!! Thess questions pretty much match up with everyone else's thoughts concerning Alabama's recruitment. They recruit like theyre playing the game NCAA Football. Come on man u cant play with kids futures like that. Im tired of going to there recruiting page on espn and they already have 25 commitments and another 25 prospect with scholarship offers considering. This shit has to backfire in the worst way one year for them.

Quotes from OL Darius James and his coach. Pretty cool that he traveled to Austin this morning and committed in person:

"It was more of a gut feeling. I just felt like I needed to do it," James said. "I actually decided sometime last week. We set it up this morning. Our coaches were going to come down and watch practice. I just came with them and pulled the trigger."

"He told us last week he was basically ready," Harker Heights head coach Mike Mullins said. "We waited until today to tell them we were coming to practice. Somehow he was in the back seat with us (Mullins and Harker Heights OL coach Robert Hagey)."

"I told (Searels) I came down to talk to you about where I wanted to go to school. Then we went into Mack Brown's office and made it official. They were ecstatic, just like I was."

"It's more of a homey feeling. I love everything about Texas. There is no downfall to it. I just love Texas," James said. "It's a big relief. Now I get to focus on my grades more because I don't have people calling me while I'm doing homework and things like that. It should be really good."

"First of all, he's an outstanding young man," Mullins said. "And he's a great teammate. Having said all that, he's an outstanding football player. With all of those things combined, it just makes him a special man to coach. We're happy for him making this decision. I think he really liked the situation and he just felt comfortable."

"It's a firm commitment," Mullins said. "He feels very good about it and he's proud to be a Longhorn."

The best thing about this is Texas has wrapped up the foundation for their 2013 OL (James, Perkins) in early March. When the spring evaluation period starts in mid-April, Searels will have more time to visit OOS studs, JUCO prospects and even start developing relationships with the 2014s. I can't wait to see what his next move is as I think the staff wants to take at least one more and he has no problem going national with his search. Exciting times and not enough can be said for how this recruiting plan has been executed to a T so far. 7% of the Rivals100 in the bag before the spring game is just stupid good.

I hope Maurice Porter will be a part of the final OL spot evaluation process. OOS and JUCO options should be explored. I know Searels likes the center from Georgia. I don't know if Trenton Brown is the right direction to go. Already having some conditioning issues with Moore and Hawkins, it might not be wise to bring in a kid that weighs 350.

James is a big pick up obviously. I think he's a center all the way, but others project him as a guard. Well I think Hamilton would project Micheal Oher as a guard.

“Coach Mullins told them they were going to come down and watch practice to take some notes, and they looked real surprised when I showed up,” James said. “I didn't waste any time. I told them what I wanted to do and they were real excited.”

"I always said when I made this decision that I was going to go to the place where my gut told me felt right,” James said. “I wanted a place that felt like home and a place where I feel comfortable. That's Texas. It just feels right.”

“He (Searels) was excited and I'm excited,” James said. “We have a great relationship. Coach Searels and Coach Brown make me feel like my coaches at Harker Heights do. They like winning, but they're also cool people.”

“I love this class that we're putting together,” James said. “We've got some great players like Jake Raulerson, Tyrone Swoopes and Kent Perkins. I've had a chance to meet some of those guys and they're all good people and this class is really talented.”

“It just makes Texas feel more like home,” James said. “I grew up with Camrhon and Naashon, and that makes going to Texas that much better. I'm going where I really want to be, but I also have some people there I really like."

I'm not giving up on Manning even though I know UT is not the favorite. Davis is still putting in a lot of effort there and Wyatt is on him too. Bill, do you still like Like Christian Morgan better than Smythe?? Bc sounds like we're not getting Smythe.

I've always liked Morgan, I didn't know about Smythe until his junior film came out. That grabbed my attention. I like Smythe better. I don't understand the pessimism on Smythe. A few pessimistic posters on Hook Em 247 is not a consensus.

I'd remind everyone that Dr. Smythe has said multiple times he'd like his son to stay close to home, and Smythe is from Belton. David Ash's hometown. Will I be nervous around announcement time on Friday? Hell yes, but Texas has been the leader for a long time. Smythe was at JD1 and a spring practice.

I think Morgan is the next logical move if Texas misses on Smythe. Texas has also quietly been evaluating OOS options. At a minimum, Texas will have plenty of time to find another TE.

I can say with some authority that Morgan or Gow would commit to Texas on the spot. The staff has options.

Massington is blowing up.

I'm not giving up on Manning even though I know UT is not the favorite. Davis is still putting in a lot of effort there and Wyatt is on him too. Hopefully he'll take his time as that would be better for the Horns. They need to get him back to Austin around the other commitments. The spring game and June summer camp would be ideal.

I've never seen a bigger Sooner honk that DeMarcus Granger. Landing Manning will be tougher than most realize. I believe Granger lives and works in Norman. Y'all can do the math there. It would be advantageous for Granger to get his brother to OU. Some times there other forces at play than football.

After Manning, it's time to go OOS or JUCO.

From shaggy:

A Couple of Cigarillos From El Cohiba

Caught up with my guy this morning and he had a couple of interesting
things to say about our program and our that of our crazy cousins on the
Brazos.

First, there is indeed a plan in place to retain Manny Diaz as long as it
takes to win a championship. "It won't be a Head-Coach-In-Waiting deal
like they had with Muschamp," says the Cigar, "but make no mistake, the
big boosters have taken notice of what Diaz brings to the table in terms
of intelligence and polish. They'll pay him a King's Ransom to stay in
Austin."

So what did Diaz do in 2011 to make folks take notice?

"The guy has a lot of Mack in him in terms of being diplomatic, but he's
also got some fire which is intriguing. Plus, it's obvious to everyone
who's paying attention to job offers rolling in for Diaz that he's the
real deal."

I'll have some anecdotes later on to add context to what the Cigar is
talking about, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless.

The Cigar also says there is trouble brewing in Aggie Land over the
scheduling fiasco that has forced TAMU to schedule two FCS opponents
which may cost them any real shot at a bowl, and more importantly for a
financially strapped TAMU, the bowl money. (Remember you can only count 1
win vs. FCS opponent for bowl eligibility.)

The Big Cigar says, "Bill Byrne was the smartest guy in the room."

JS: Wait...What?!

"Yes, he told his BOR and President Loftin that Texas would never play
the Aggies again if they made the move to the SEC."

JS: And you said the same thing last summer.

"I did, but Loftin and their BOR didn't believe it when it came out of
Byrne's mouth. They thought Texas was bluffing and they didn't heed
Byrne's warning. Financially and politically, the Aggies are facing
serious isolation and the funniest part is that the once considered to be
lame duck, Bill Byrne, is able to play the I-told-you-so card. Now, I'm
hearing there's a huge schism in their Board of Regents and Loftin is
seen as vulnerable. If they have a disastrous season in 2012, heads are
going to roll."

Interesting stuff.

Stay tuned...

Practice Report #6 From The Asset
The Asset gives you the skinny on a practice that saw some thump tempo
along with live tackling to satisfy the pigskin purist and assistant
coaches alike. Overall, it sounds like the secondary and the running
backs obliged us some football and carried the day. Enjoy...

Quarterback: Ash/Case/ Connor

The Asset wasn't with the QB's today but still got us the goods from
another source. "I heard Ash had a solid practice in drill work before
the scrimmage." said The Asset. "In the scrimmage he threw a pick but it
was more of a great play by our guy than a bad read. Coach Harsin wasn't
too pleased with Case with an ill advised throw that was picked. Connor
seems to still be learning."

Running Backs: Bergeron and Brown again

The Asset tells us that both ran with some power and the linebackers will
attest to that. Malcolm Brown straight trucked Tevin Jackson for a TD on
one off-tackle play while Joe Bergeron came out of a pile Emmit Smith
style and broke some arm tackles before bouncing it outside for the TD.
Both RB's did a good job staying on their feet and making plays after
contact according to our source especially in live tempo.

Wide Receiver: Davis, Shipley, and Hales

The Asset says Mike Davis regressed a little after a stellar weekend. He
had an easy catch but dropped it for what would have been a nice gain.
Davis somewhat redeemed himself with two or three fantastic grabs in
traffic later in the practice according to The Asset. "He's a different
player when it comes to making plays on 50/50 balls but he'll remember
that easy drop."

Jaxon ran some good routes and had a productive day catching the ball.
Shipley is still a big liability as a blocker so the coaches are going to
need to tinker with their WR screen game. The Asset says the coaches
lament that John Harris is gone because by far he's the best blocker on
the outside.

The Asset says that Desean Hales is still catching everything thrown his
way. Today he caught everything in sight and seems to be turning into one
of David Ash's favorite targets. Is he this year's Nate Jones?

Miles Onyegbule had another easy drop which may be something that is
starting to get into his head because he catches the tough ones. In fact,
Miles had another nice Michael Irvin move pushing off in traffic beating
great coverage by Carrington Byndom.

Tight Ends: Grant, Terrell, McFarland (no order really)

All three caught the ball really well today, but got their asses chewed
for their blocking in the run game.

The play of the day goes to MJ McFarland who made an off balance catch in
the air with hands all around him. He had to readjust mid-air to make the
grab and The Asset tells us he reminded him of a young Jermichael Finley
on the play. There was no way he should have caught the ball except for
the fact he went into full on basketball mode and grabbed the football
like it was a rebound.

DJ Grant has been a machine catching the ball and today was no different.
No drops.

Darius Terrell did well as flex tight end catching the ball, but he also
had the best day blocking in the run game, which isn't saying much.

Offensive Line- Same five with Flowers getting 1st Team snaps

This group had decent day because they opened some holes. Sure some plays
got stoned which will happen when facing this front seven but for the
most part the Texas Oline acquitted itself quite nicely.

Also, unlike the last two practices, no defensive player really had a
kill shot in the backfield and that goes for QB's or RB's. If there was a
play in the backfield it came at the hands of blitzing linebacker who
tripped up a back with an arm-tackle. Pass protection was solid.

The Asset tells us the man of the unit today may have been Sedrick
Flowers who stoned every player they stuck in front of him. Flowers
routinely stood up Chris Whaley and Tank Jackson in pass-pro, and got a
push on these two in the running game.

Defensive tackle: Same rotation

Kind of a ho-hum day for this group as the interior line for Texas got
the better of the defensive tackles. Moore simply collapses the pocket
when he's not gassed and Desmond Jackson got a little shaken up but he's
alright. Moore had a great day when he wasn't tired, while Ashton,
Jackson, and Whaley were quiet at the hands of stout interior Oline.

Defensive End Okafor, Wilson, Reed

This group had a lot of PBU's especially Cedric Reed who got good
penetration all day against the second team OT. Okafor had some success
against Josh Cochran but Cochran won a battle or two in pass-pro The
Asset tells us. Okafor may be the most valuable player on the defense in
that he's playing a thin position and he continues to help educate a thin
position on the other side of the ball The Asset says.

Linebackers: Jackson, Edmond, Hicks

The linebackers weren't quite as physical today. Tevin got his bell rung
when he was popped by Malcolm Brown in live action. Steve Edmond
continues to get downhill in a hurry and bring the wood according to The
Asset, but the big man had trouble with the RBs on routes out of the
backfield today. As for Hicks, The Asset tells us he did well in coverage
underneath and probably had the best day out of this unit.

Defensive Backs: Vacarro, Thompson, Turner, Diggs, Byndom

The Asset says the DB's must have gotten tired of the little short routes
because they were all over them today.

Josh Turner had a great day today hauling in 3 picks. Turner was all over
the short routes and looked like a budding superstar according to our
guy. Turner picked off David Ash on a decent ball where he just timed it
perfectly and broke on it to beat the WR. Turner rounded out the day
getting two picks on McCoy on two quick passes. The Asset says Turner
simply wasn't fazed by the short route today.

Duke Thomas also played the short route well today picking off Connor on
a quick slant.

Theme warning here, but Diggs had a pick today off of Case as well. He
was all over Shipley and closed on the ball before Shipley could make a
play.

Carrington Byndom didn't get tested other than the fantastic catch by
Onyegbule, but for the most part he was on the wide outs like white on
rice.

Vaccaro did well on the TEs today according to our source. "He was just
real physical in coverage and made life difficult."

Overall, the secondary showed just how many hosses Coach Akina has at his
disposal. "It was simply phenomenal how many athletes we have in the
secondary. Our guys were running routes for the receivers today and they
simply out-athleted our wideouts at times."

At this rate, The Asset says both Josh Turner and Duke Thomas will
probably be backing up at corner if they keep it up.

The defense got it's revenge today, that's for sure. Stay tuned for more
practice reports closed or open.

One final note, Darius James was in attendance today but he was riding a
cart due to his injured foot. Is Mack Brown always recruiting or what?

I just told one of my friends who went to UT when I did that Leslie died, and he said "who?".

How in the world somebody could live in Austin that long (he lived in Austin at least 6 years) and not have crossed paths or heard of Leslie is beyond me. At the risk of being completely wrong, I'll continue to say we shouldn't give up on Manning. That weekend has proven to be a big weekend in past years and I imagine it will be again if certain guys make it to Austin. The more patient he is with the process the better for UT.

And excellent news on Smythe. I'm pretty confident he'll end up in the Top 150 or so once this class is signed. He's a great TE prospect. To put things in perspective for this class so far (and another reason why I won't concede Manning), Mack has 19 offers out with 13 in the bag. Those remaining six are uncommitted with three of them being Texas leans (D. Wilson, Samples, Prevot). That leaves Manning, Harris and Bell. UT recruiting fans have many reasons to be optimistic.

I pretty much gave up on Manning, but after reading the bit on Sooner rivals site, he sounded pretty pessimistic about them as well. If he goes to Spring Game that is huge.

It's got to be hard to ignore that Sooners have 1 commit and Texas has been getting almost all their targets at will - even without pressuring as in the past. Everybody wants to play on winning side.

Getting him around all of these other top-notch guys is an advantage UT has to work with if he does end up making it to Austin. Like you said, everyone wants to win and most blue-chippers want to play with other blue-chippers. No doubt he's aware of what's going on right now. Combine that with UT's great individual recruiters (both coaches and players) and I can't give up on Manning.

A few quotes from TE Durham Smythe and his father. He committed to Mack in person yesterday and said he will be doing interviews today. Crazy that he won't even turn 17 until August:

"The family atmosphere really stood out. Players and coaches were really close. They had top of the line facilities," Smythe said. "Coach (Bryan) Harsin talked to me about the overall scheme. Coach (Major) Applewhite talked to me about utilization of tight ends, and I had a real long conversation with coach (Bruce) Chambers and he showed me some video. They're slim at the position right now because they have some guys that are graduating and some guys that are veterans. He focused on versatility. That's a big part of my game. They do a lot of things with their tight ends - flex, block, split them out and more."

"Durham committed in person to Coach Brown and UT tonight. We are excited to have the chance to be a part of the Longhorn family and tradition."

Quotes from the 2012 signees via OrangeBloods, starting with DE Hassan Ridgeway:

"I thought about switching before I went on my official visit. I was about to. But I changed my mind at the last minute. I talked to the Texas coaches again and I just changed my mind," Ridgeway said. "But it was really a split decision. I didn't really know until signing day that it was Texas."

"It was just the program where I think they'll be at in the next couple years. I think we'll be winning and I don't think A&M will be," Ridgeway said.

"I'm happy. Wherever I went, I was going to have to work for whatever I get. That didn't affect the decision as much. The main thing is that I wanted to win. I'm very happy with my decision."

"Some of the stuff is the same, some is a little different. You just have to adjust to it. They want everything fast-paced but most of my workouts are fast anyway," Ridgeway said. "I know as much as I prepare, I don't think I'll be fully prepared for it when I get there (to campus). But I'm going to try to be in the best condition when I go."

"I just want to go in there and give my best. I hope to play, but whether or not I do, I'll give my best. They have a lot of defensive ends coming in too."

"I'll just go out there and give as much effort as I can, try to make some plays."

OL Curtis Riser:

"I'm definitely feeling good. I ran a 4.95 a couple weeks ago. I'm feeling back to 100 percent," said the 6-3, 285-pound Riser.

"Basically, feel like I'll be ready, but can't wait to get down there to see how the weight program is," Riser said. "I'm going to have to get used to it. I'm anxious to see how I react to it. I need to keep working hard, but I feel like I can keep up."

"On signing day, my coach came up to me and said 'Are you going to come up to me and go to LSU?' I was like 'what?' He said that's what people were saying on the internet and the Texas coaches had been calling to check. I said 'no.' When he asked me, I had on a burnt orange polo, had orange balloons, and had all my Texas stuff on the table."

"We (Riser and UT) had a family bond. When I went down to Texas the first time for the spring game my sophomore year, there wasn't any awkward silence," Riser said. "We all (the recruits) bonded and kept that for the last two years. Now we'll all become teammates at Texas and hopefully win a national championship in the next couple years."

"In the beginning of recruiting, I told my coaches it would be between Texas and LSU. I like LSU, but that's kind of far away from my family. We talked it over, as recruiting kept going, I felt like Texas was my home. I went down there several times and Texas was the one for me."

"I feel my feet and athletic ability are high. They want to get me down there and work with them. They're looking for me to play early," Riser said.

"I would love Dontre to come to UT. But he has to think of it from his point of view. He's definitely highly recruited. I let him do his own thing. I would love for him to be at Texas though," Riser said.

DE Bryce Cottrell:

“A lot of the schools called me towards the end. I told everyone else no, I’m sticking with Oregon until Texas called and talked to my coach,” Cottrell said.

“Stressful, man. Real, real stressful,” he said.

“Chip Kelly going to the NFL, it put things in perspective,” he said. “Would he be there for the next four years of my career, and if he leaves what’s going to happen to me?”

“It’s just the school in general and it’s always been my dream school to play for,” Cottrell said. “I want to major in business and you know how good their business school is. It was just like I have to go see this.”

“They (Oregon) came to my house the day before I left to go to Texas for an in-home visit,” Cottrell said of the Ducks. “They asked me if I was still staying with Oregon. At the time I couldn’t really tell them no. So I told them ‘yeah, I’m still with Oregon right now, but I don’t know I’ve never seen Texas and it’s always been my dream school.’ That’s exactly what I told him. [Coach Don Pellum] was like I understand so go check it out and if you like it you like it and we’ll go from there and if you don’t we’ll be over here. After I visited Texas and everything… we went from there.”

“It was the most awkward conversation in the world. You don’t even want to know,” he said. “It was in front of all the coaches and the president of the school. I looked at my phone and was like ‘Oh, Chip Kelly.’ He said not to go and I was already kind of there.”

“It was amazing,” Cottrell said of the visit. “I never knew Texas was like that before. I took an unofficial before but when we went on my official visit I was like ‘Wow, they have a lot of stuff here.’ It was crazy.”

“Sunday afternoon before I left Austin in coach Brown’s office talking to him,” Cottrell said. “He asked me a question and I’ll never forget it. He asked me do I want to play for Oregon and play for the Civil War every year, or do I want to play in the Red River Rivalry? I was like yeah that’s a good point. And he asked me what school I wanted to go to before if football wasn’t an option, Texas or Oregon? I was like Texas and that’s when I knew I wanted to go to Texas.”

“They knew it was going to happen because they knew deep down it was the school I always wanted to go to since I was little,” he said. “They just told me Bryce it’s your decision so I sat down and prayed about it and looked over my options with both schools and Texas was more in favor. I didn’t go there because of my girlfriend or anything. I went there for me.”

“She (Cottrell's girlfriend) wanted me to go to UT,” Cottrell said. “She bought a belt buckle and everything before I even knew I was going to UT. She said ‘Bryce, I’m buying a belt buckle now. It’s a nice belt buckle. I’ll have to show you sometime.’ It’s a nice diamond belt buckle with a Longhorn. She was like ‘Yeah, you’re going to UT. I can see it now.’ And it came true, I’m going to UT.”

“Basically the family environment and Coach Brown, and they didn’t just want me they kind of needed me,” he said. “They only have four defensive ends coming into the spring and it just seemed like a better fit for me then actually. I asked my coaches and friends and family and they told me I would be better at defensive end than linebacker.”

“It feels great because I’m going to a school I’ve always wanted to go to, to be honest,” he said. “It kind of felt surreal when it started happening. When I look back on it I made the best decision of my life. I’m going to the school I’ve always wanted to play for, and I get to wear orange and beat Oklahoma every year. There’s nothing bad about it.”

Quotes from LB Michael Hutchings of Concord, CA:

“Texas A&M offered. UT didn’t,” stated the nation’s No. 17 prospect in the Rivals100. “I want to get in contact with them (Texas). I know they stay in state most of the time, but they will probably start venturing out."

“Yeah, I want to reach out to them on the own,” said Hutchings. “I’ll probably call the athletic offices and their desk phones this week and hopefully get an answer and introduce myself.”

“I’ve only been to one junior day so far,” stated the native of Concord, California. “I went to Cal because it was right down the road from me. I’ll probably go down to USC at the end of the month.”

“Offers are just coming in right now,” stated Hutchings. “I can’t put a leader on it right now. I’ll start to sort things out in the summer. I grew up a USC fan, but I have to throw that out of the picture for the recruiting process. I think I’m going to go through the whole process, see how the incoming freshmen I know do and how the new Pac-12 coaches do. I want to see how they (the freshmen he competed against and knows) compete on that college level at their schools. I want to see the impact they make.”

Any news on Wilson and his Oregon visit?

More from TE Durham Smythe on his commitment:

“It was fantastic. It was a great visit,” Smythe said of Stanford. “What really stands out is just how different Texas and Stanford are, but at the same time similar in the fact that they are both great schools and have great athletic programs."

“Stanford is beautiful. They have a beautiful campus. I loved all the coaches. They were great guys. The school was obviously fantastic. That combination of things is really enticing, but at the same time Texas has all of those things. When schools are that even in your mind it really comes down to where you feel the most comfortable and for me that was Texas. Both places I have complete respect for.”

“I guess it’s been speculated distance was the deciding factor, but in my mind it really had no impact,” he said. “I love Austin. It’s only an hour away so I can come home at any time, but at the same time Stanford is in a beautiful place on the west coast. How many chances are you going to have to live on the west coast for four years for free?"

“At the end of the day I weighed it and they came out even as far as distance because really it’s important to be close to your family but at the same time they would’ve come out to support me. Distance didn’t play a huge factor, it just came down to where I felt the most comfortable and where I fit in the best and have the best chance to succeed.”

“I don’t know about the overall decision but it definitely adds to the comfortable feeling because he’s (David Ash) a guy who has helped me out along the whole process,” Smythe said. “He’s been really good about not being biased. He would always tell me that we would love you to be at Texas, but at the same time you need to find the place that’s right for you. Of course it doesn’t hurt that you have some chemistry with the starting quarterback.”

“Coach Chambers is an awesome guy,” he said. “He has a lot of experience. This is his 15th year coaching with coach Brown. He has a lot of experience coaching the tight end position and he has had a lot of greats come through.

“You have to like your position coach because in college you’re going to be spending a lot more time with them than even your head coach or offensive coordinator. I feel like that relationship is important because of the amount of time you’re going to spend with them. They’re going to be the one’s coaching you. Coach Chambers is an awesome guy. I can’t wait to get in there and be around them.”

“Let’s go win a national championship.”

"We wrote some things down and checked some things off and it really came down to one question I had for coach (Bryan) Harsin," Smythe said Friday morning. "That was 'How are they going to use the tight ends in this offense?'"

"Obviously, with coach Harsin, he came from Boise St. and they had a more pro-style mixture offense where they utilize tight ends a whole lot," Smythe said. "Texas, prior to him coming, ran a spread and that's a big transition from a spread to his offense."

"With that transition period you have to be able to recruit people who will fit your offense. That's what they were doing with the spread but now that we're transitioning to the pro-style he's trying to recruit someone who can block and receive and move around a lot. He talked about playing in the slot, outside receiver, at the regular tight end spot, in the backfield, and things like that. There's a lot of motion. It's going to be cool to see just how he utilizes the position."

"The plan all along was to do it today, but at the same time it's been between two schools for so long and there's only so much information you can know about both," he said. "I felt I had all the information I needed for a couple of days now and it's not going to get any easier and I got my question answered. At that time it felt right and I'm 100 percent confident."

"There was definitely some excitement in the room," Smythe said. "I feel like tight end was definitely a key position for them in this recruiting class just because of the depth they had and not being able to sign one last year. They looked relieved just like I was. It was mutual. I'm definitely excited about it and I think they are too."

"It feels awesome," he said. "It's a relief and I'm excited to be a Longhorn."

Remind me who Harris and Bell are?

There is a rumor on OrangeBloods from El Mahico (who is connected to Akina) that an in-state DB could be offered soon. Maurice Smith is my first guess if that's indeed true.

Based on limited knowledge of what is out there, I see two instate DBs I'd like us to go after. Kameron Miles and Antwuan Davis both are over 6 feet and from what I've seen ranked higher than Smith, but of course that means nothing at this point.

Once he sees UT women romancing each other, he will be ours.

I want Samples for the slot. After that I hope we close up shop on offensive skill positions and focus on Super Blues Dbs, and Oline.

From Ketch on Justin Manning:

If you asked me to handicap the Justin Manning sweepstakes, I wouldn't rate Texas better than 15% at this point, but the longer this recruitment continues the better I like Texas' chances to get back into it. The biggest thing the Longhorns need is time? time to get him back on campus (maybe multiple times)? and time for him to think about where all of the other top prospects are going with or without him. The Longhorns are dominating the Metroplex, which means that he'll hear enough Longhorn stuff in the next 11 months to likely keep his attention. I think his recruitment gets interesting before all of the dust settles.

Hard to argue with Miles, but don't sleep on Smith over Davis. Smith is actually over 6' as well and is probably the more complete CB. Davis is a crazy athlete/track star but I wouldn't be surprised if Smith gets the nod should Akina decide to offer an in-state DB soon.

Getting Warrick locked up early makes Samples more of a luxury at this point, but I'd still like to have him. I can see him committing to UT around the spring game. I'd honestly like to see an offer go out to Massington if Warrick is already pegged for the slot. UT needs a big deep threat on the outside.

Good quotes from ATH Jacorey Warrick (24/7):

“This class is amazing,” Warrick said. “It was something I wanted to be a part of for sure. You have guys like Tyrone Swoopes and Ricky Seals-Jones on my side of the ball and just from that you know it’s loaded with talent. I don’t think I can be ranked as high as those guys, because they’re so talented, but it’s a blessing for me to be a part of this class.”

“I definitely see a national championship in our future,” said Warrick. “Between this class I’m in and last year’s, along with what else they have on campus, there’s just no stopping it. The talent is there, but it’s up to us. We all just have to come in and work hard. I see big things in our future if we just keeping doing that, and I know we will.”

Quotes from Miles and Massington after JD2 had them waiting until at least spring. They know UT is coming by their school and they should get more information then. They'll all need to get to campus before we can even consider them realistic possibilities. I'm surprised at the lack of interest from UT with Bosa (at least publically) since he took the initiative to reach out. I wonder if the staff is worried about giving out a bad vibe if they offer him with Manning uncommitted. He's a kid that needs to know he's UT's #1 at DT.

More quotes from ATH Jacorey Warrick (24/7). He will be at the spring game on April 1st.

“I prefer offense if I had to choose,” Warrick said. “I mean, I can do whatever is needed of me, but I prefer to play on offense. That’s where I’ve always played and I think that I’m the most dangerous when I have the ball, rather than when I’m trying to get the ball or ball carrier.”

“Coach Wyatt was the main one recruiting me,” Warrick explained. “Well, he and Coach (Oscar) Giles. But Wyatt is my position coach and he, along with Coach (Mack) Brown, told me that they wanted me to be a Longhorn. Coach Wyatt said he wanted me to be a slot receiver and play for him and Texas.”

“He’s just a really cool guy,” said Warrick of Wyatt. “He’s someone I really wanted to play for after talking to him. Off the field, he’s cool, down to earth and real straight with you. Once you’re on the field, he’s a competitor and wants his guys to compete. He’ll just get right in to drills with the receivers and show them how it’s done. I really like that. That’s my kind of coach.”

“I thought why wait, why not commit now,” Warrick told Hookem.com. “I had a great time at the junior day, I had a great time meeting everyone and had a great time seeing everything. I talked with my parents coming back home, they were good with it. I talked to my head coach when I got back, he was good with it. I talked to my position coach and he was good with it. So why wait? Why not commit to the best school there is? So I did. It’s great. I’m happy to be a Longhorn.”
