24/7 saying #2 is in the books but it may not be announced until the prospect gets home later this evening.

From IT on the '2nd commit' --

Guys, the other site jumped the gun with the commit news. There is no official "commit" in the true sense of the word. There are a handful of kids currently on campus who will commit after sitting down with their parents. Mack wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm sorry if I worded it poorly. My understanding was this certain prospect had basically made his decision but wanted to wait a little longer before making it public. So, yes, there is no "official" commitment quite yet from the prospect in question. I'm expecting something later this evening or tomorrow.

Yeah I don't get all the bickering between sites but I think it's hilarious. Especially Ketch throwing shots when he should just put in more work and let his product speak for itself. If anything, the posters on OB owe Gerry and 24/7 and JS and IT a big thank you if the pressure and subs theyve taken from Ketch makes him get off his ass and put work into the product again.

I'm really curious about a 2nd commitment. These next 3 to 4 days will be interesting.

Quotes from DT Justin Manning after the Junior Day per 24/7:

“It was a fun visit,” Manning said. “There is a lot of tradition at Texas. There was a lot of talking today.”

“I didn’t talk one-on-one with Coach (Mack) Brown a lot today. I talked to him when I first came in," he said. "He talked to me about the tradition and everything. I spoke with the defensive tackles coach (Bo Davis) most of the time. He told me I had an offer, and he told me I was his number one guy this year.”

“There was no pressure to commit and they didn’t ask me if I wanted to commit,” he said.

“Texas pulled even with everyone else today,” he said.

“I’m going to Texas A&M next weekend, and then I’ll probably go to LSU and USC. I may also go to Oklahoma March 3,” he said.

It's been an odd Junior Day compared to years past because there's not a lot of info available. It sounds like everyone was offered today except LB Naashon Hughes. He was told that UT is not ready to offer anyone at his position. The fact that he was not offered (being the brother of a current player) confirms that the staff is being extremely selective to start out the 2013 cycle. I think it's great because there are limited scholarships to work with at this time and it shows there's an emphasis on proper evalution rather than just offering every guy that sits atop the rankings.

Quote from OL Darius James to 24/7:

Update on ATH Ricky Seals-Jones. He was accompanied by his parents and brother today and basically everything went as expected. Their plan is to sit down as a family in the next few days and have a decision by the end of the week. Like I mentioned this morning, Mack and the staff likely encouraged all of the prospects to think about things and it was a pressure free environment. Quotes from his father:

"Any time you go to a junior day, schools are going to throw everything they can at you. Texas was excellent though," Mr. Jones said. "LSU did a good job too. You can't just jump in. You have to be sure when you make that decision. But he's going to make a decision in a week or so."

"We got a lot of questions answered that we needed. The whole staff was excellent, really nice to us," Mr. Jones said. "They answered all the questions we wanted answered."

WR Ra'Shaad Samples is saying some promising things. He was accompanied by his brother-in-law and sister in Austin today. He sounds much like Seals-Jones in the sense that a decision is looming.

"That's pretty prestigious," Samples said of the UT offer. "Texas is one of my favorite schools. It's a school I really like."

"It helps me get closer to a decision knowing who wants me, knowing Texas wants me," Samples said. "I want to talk to my parents and then we'll go from there."

"I really don't put any schools higher than others," Samples said. "But Texas is really high on my list. That's all I can say. Texas is really high."

"I like the coaching staff, coach (Bryan) Harsin, their ideas. And being there knowing your'e going to graduate, be in a town and be around people that can help you even if you're not playing football."

"I'm going to talk to my family about Texas. I may make a decision after that, I may not," he said.

Quotes from TE Durham Smythe. Sounds like the Stanford visit won't happen:

"Yes, Texas offered me," said the versatile tight end. "It was actually really laid back. I went into his (Mack Brown's) office and we talked for about 30 minutes. There was no pressure (to commit). He told me how to handle things. He said 'Obviously, you need to find the right place' and he said reasons why Texas was the right place. There was no pressure which I really liked. It was an honor."

"I was really impressed overall by everything," stated Smythe. "Coming in I was expecting to see all the great academic stuff. I knew that coming in. But the family atmosphere really stood out. Players and coaches were really close. They had top of the line facilities. I had a chance to speak to all of them today. Coach (Bryan) Harsin talked to me about the overall scheme. Coach (Major) Applewhite talked to me about utilization of tight ends, and I had a real long conversation with coach (Bruce) Chambers and he showed me some video. They're slim at the position right now because they have some guys that are graduating and some guys that are veterans. He focused on versatility. That's a big part of my game. They do a lot of things with their tight ends - flex, block, split them out and more."

"That's a tough decision," responded Smythe about the possibility of putting an end to the recruiting process. "I think I'm going to be making it in the next two days. I feel like I like all the places I've visited so far. I'll talk with my family in the next two days and decide. Obviously, it's still really early. Everything has really picked up recently. But I'm definitely starting to get an idea. I'm trying to keep it narrowed down as much as possible. I'll have to decide whether to take these other visits or not. Stanford has also showed serious interest and I did originally have an unofficial planned for the first of March."

More cool quotes from ATH Kyle Hicks:

“I was real nervous going in (Mack Brown's office) because I was like, 'Man, this is it',” Hicks said. “It was a great meeting and I walked out happy with the offer.”

“It's a relief, but it adds some pressure because I have a tough decision to make,” Hicks said. “Do I want to go play football at the University of Texas? That's a huge decision and if I choose it, I need to make sure it's the right one.”

“She really loved it. My mom loves Texas,” Hicks said. “My whole little entourage of people were cheering for me to commit. There are some disappointed people that I didn't do it there, but everyone knows that I need to sit down and make the right choice.”

Forgot to address DT Kerrick Huggins of Dallas Skyline above. He is committed to Texas A&M but I haven't seen anything that says he won't be in Austin for JD2. The fact that A&M's DL coach, Terrell Williams, has left for the Oakland Raiders could shake things up a bit. Always hurts to lose a great recruiter.

Quotes from QB Tyrone Swoopes:

"It was pretty fun. I've really seen all the stuff they showed me today when I went for a camp last year and the BYU game. This one was more for my mom because she's never been there before," Swoopes said. "It was more for her. She had never met coach Brown or coach Harsin. It was good for her to get comfortable with them. She said she liked them both and was very comfortable with them, so that was good."

"I think it was pretty good. They really impressed my mom with the whole family aspect of things," Swoopes said. "At other places, the coaches' wives weren't there. My mom said she liked that, that everybody's wife was there at this junior day, as well as getting to know some of the players. She thought that was cool and really good."

"They just told me that I was one of the top recruits on their list," he said. "They're trying to get Texas back on the map. With some of the players there today, they think we could go back to the national championship if we all end up going there."

"I think with the whole thing, I'm just going to stay in Texas. The furthest I'd go is Oklahoma," Swoopes said. "I know that's what my mom and dad want. They don't say it, but I know that's what they want. That's what my friends and family would want me to do."

"I think it would just have to be me being comfortable at that place," Swoopes said when asked what will differentiate one school from the rest. "It will be the coaching staff and everybody there. That's pretty much it."

"I don't really have a time frame yet. I'm just going to sit down with my parents and maybe try to work something out. But I don't when I'll do anything yet," Swoopes said.

Update on five-star S Su'a Cravens...saw two different articles on Rivals today that link him to Texas. He's said that he has spoken with both Mack and Akina (not sure how many times) and he does want to take an official to Texas. He's also friends with Mack on Facebook which tells us there's a serious interest there as these coaches don't add random players.

"My official visits I know I'm going to are Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Texas, and I'm not sure where my fifth visit will be to."

So no Cali schools? We may actually have a shot if its up to OOS Schools. I always fear the pull of the in state schools when recruiting other states.

I don't see a single in state or West Coast name on Craven's list. Very encouraging. Texas can't go wrong with Cravens or Marcell Harris. I wouldn't be surprised if Kameron Miles had to wait awhile for an offer.

All of the in-state schools and Washington (Lupoi = Polynesian) have offered and he's been to USC for sure, but it doesn't sound like staying close to home is a priority right now. Things obviously change for all prospects as their recruitment gets closer to the end and they start to really think about leaving home. He may visit Nebraska in the spring. Hopefully the staff will feel confident enough in their defensive numbers that they can go balls out for him and Harris and hope to land one.

It may be a bit of a reach on my part, but I'm still not convinced that DB Kameron Miles is being looked at as just a safety. He's already a tad bigger than Jinkens at 16 years old (he may already be 17) and could end up like Cobbs who's big enough to be an OLB, but can also cover Big XII WRs from that position when necessary due to his speed. He's a great talent so I'm hoping the lack of DB numbers doesn't affect him directly, but interested to see what will be said about him after JD2 and if Diaz has a specific plan.

More quotes from QB Tyrone Swoopes (HornsNation):

"As soon as we got out the car, we were walking out of the parking garage," Swoopes said, "and my little brother looks up at the stadium and was like, 'Oh my gosh, I want to go to Texas!' "

"I had already liked them (Texas) a lot from the first time I went down there," he said. "I don't think I could like them any more than I already did. They really want me, and it would be a good opportunity if I did go there."

"He (Mack Brown) just told me that he wanted me pretty bad to go down there," Swoopes said. "They need a quarterback, and he thinks I can help make something big down there with the guys they're getting next year and could get in my class."

"Coach Harsin said I'm going to be compared to Vince Young and Colt McCoy and Cam Newton and all them, but he won't expect any of that from me," Swoopes said. "He'll expect me to be Tyrone Swoopes, that's all."

"I don't really know (about a timeline for a decision), honestly. I don't know," he said. "I'm going to talk to my parents about everything the next couple days. I guess we'll see."

I think Alabama and LSU both have 70+ offers out right now. It's a questionable tactic (although completely legal) that allows them to have several lines out at one time. If the big fish commit, you tell the lesser guys to grayshirt or their offer isn't committable. Allows them to pull in the best class possible year in and year out. Makes you wonder how much they value certain guys since so many are viewed as "Plan B" or even "Plan C" types.

Awesome work TFloss. Do you think we will take 2 RB's this class? If I Wilson commits to Texas, do you see him switching to LSU with all their locker problems? Any news on C. Morgan? I would love for him to get an offer.

Muchas gracias Floss.

Reports coming out RSJ will likely pick a school as early as within the week and you've got to think Texas is the leader. That could help a lot with Swoopes as well. Would be a nice start getting those two and would help tremendously with the other prospects as well.

Will be interesting next couple weeks.

No problem.

I'm with you and 24/7 that RSJ's quick decision could influence Swoopes. It was reported he asked about RSJ's commitment status a handful of times on Sunday and may have pulled the trigger if Seals-Jones would have. Still working on my comments but I have some more on that in there.

1.) The plan appears to be Hicks/D. Wilson and then shut it down, but I don't think they're set on two should their original plan not work out.

2.) On I. Wilson, your dream school is your dream school (see Daje, Santos and Cottrell). I fear LSU can slow-play him for months and then scoop him up whenever they feel like it much like Texas has done with certain guys. It's been said LSU may have dropped the ball a bit with Wilson by not offering at the last Junior Day, but it's usually easy to forgive your childhood favorite. It's a sure bet that Searels understands what he's up against but will stay on him with a "Plan B" in his back pocket.

3.) Nothing on Morgan, unfortunately. He's a great TE prospect but Texas simply likes other guys more at this time.

OG/C, Brandon Kublanow, Walton (Marietta, GA) (6-3, 290)
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Brandon-Kublanow-129249

According to Kublanow, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are recruiting him the hardest. Of the schools that haven't offered, he thinks Alabama, Tennessee or Texas could be next to do so. Asked if he had any top schools at the moment, Kublanow replied, "I wouldn't say so. I have schools I like a lot, but I wouldn't make a top five or anything."

“It was good (Texas Junior Day),” said Manning. “It really wasn’t that exciting. It was all business and it wasn’t that fun. It was just all business and it really wasn’t fun at all. I like Texas ‘OK’, but I don’t think too much about them right now. They are all pretty equal when it comes to my colleges right now and the visit to Texas was just ‘OK’.

Sounds like time to write Manning off. Usually I don't take quotes too much to heart especially when it is to a rival teams reporter. But something that negative sounds like beyond an uphill battle.

Don't be deceived by lack of Cali visits on list for Su'a. He's already been on USC campus and he's only 90 minute drive away. Dude supposedly grew up a USC fan and his favorite player is Polamalu. He's a longshot. If he doesn't official there, it will simply be because he will do an unofficial and/or summer camp there (USC summer camp is pretty big).

If he doesn't do officials in Cali smart money is he sees those as short drive and wants to save the paid official visits for visits far away.

don't mean to be a wet blanket, but i've never seen a guy make comments about a visit being simply OK and not fun, then commit to that school. and i've been following recruiting for quite some time.

maybe a 10 win season and a win over OU could get us back in the race, and bo davis is obviously a top recruiter. but if you aren't at least somewhat excited during a visit, i wouldn't expect a second. time will tell - first times for everything.

Press release from the Oliver family:

Jake Oliver made his decision today regarding his future. Jake is excited to announce that he will be attending the University of Texas and playing football for Coach Brown and the Longhorns.

The recruiting process began, for Jake, the spring before his sophomore season and has been a great and fulfilling experience. Jake has had the opportunity to visit many campuses and meet many outstanding coaches along the way and would like to thank each school and coach for their interest in him. He is very appreciative of all the wonderful people that have helped through this process and couldn’t be happier with his decision.

The winning tradition, family atmosphere and feeling of home on the U.T. campus were key factors in his decision. Jake attended several U.T. games during their National Championship season and believes that with the current coaching staff, the players on campus, the 2012 recruiting class and another great class in 2013 a National Title will be coming back to Austin very soon.

Another major determining factor in his decision was a Degree from the University of Texas. Jake grew up in Dallas, Texas and attends Dallas Jesuit College Preparatory and education is very important in his life. Jesuit taught him how to balance a full academic load while also participating in athletics and community service. Jake believes the University of Texas will be a great extension for his academic future.

Jake is very thankful to Dallas Jesuit, Coach Hickman, Coach Wunderlick and the great Jesuit staff and Jesuit community that helped him become the young man he is today.

Jake would also like to thank all of the teachers, coaches, players and friends that he has met and played beside since beginning football in 4th grade. His football experience has been amazing with many Championships and FUN times along the way. Playing for the Horns is a dream come true.

Family has been a key component in Jake’s life and it was very important to be close to his grandparents, Bill and Linda Oliver and Dick and Anita Landenberger. His big brother, Jackson, has been very instrumental in Jake’s life and has thrown him many passes growing up. One of Jake’s most memorable moments was his 1st varsity touchdown reception when he was a freshman on the Jesuit varsity team and Jackson was the senior QB. Jake’s little sis, Emma, helps keep him grounded as it’s often stated that she is the best athlete of the family. Jake’s mom and dad, Ellen and Gary have been lifelong educators and coaches and are very happy with his decision and believe Texas will be a great fit for him.

Jake is excited about his decision to attend the University of Texas and play for the Longhorns. He is now looking forward to his senior year at Jesuit and a great football season with his friends and family.

Thanks to everyone and Hookem!

Text to 24/7 from OL/DL Jake Raulerson:

"The Jakes are in!!"

For those that might've been a little worried after zero commitments on JD1, I compared it to a junior high dance. All of the guys are in one corner and the girls (in this case, Texas) are in the other. Raulerson is the cool chaperone telling the boys what they need to do and they're all looking around at each other waiting to see who will make the first move. Oliver has taken that first step and now the others will feel more confident in doing so. News travels fast (they're all connected through social media) and Oliver was a great ice breaker for the rest of the bunch. Great players want to play with great players.

Tyrone Swoopes is a wanted man, as LSU makes offer
Top dual-threat quarterback has offers from nearly every top program.

http://www.maxpreps.com/news/ZFAS0bzlpESGUZGCiJCw9w/tyrone-swoopes-is-a-wanted-man,-as-lsu-makes-offer.htm

He's attend Junior Days at Oklahoma, Baylor and on Sunday, Texas. All of those schools remain in the mix for Swoopes, while Alabama and Ohio State are among schools outside the Big 12 vying for his services.

The latest offer came today from LSU, Whitewright head coach Jack Wylie told MaxPreps.

Perhaps the most interesting team in the mix is Stanford. Swoopes seems intrigued with the Palo Alto, Calif., school, and the Cardinal could have the best chance of any out-of-state team to land him. He plans to take a trip to the West Coast to see the campus, according to Wylie.

"I'm pretty sure he's going to visit Stanford in the summer," he said.

Wylie doesn't expect Swoopes to commit in the spring or the summer. Since he joins the basketball team directly after the football season, he may not have much time to take visits after this summer.

He's going to miss the burnt orange boat.

Four TCU football players arrested

Richard Durrett [ARCHIVE] ESPNDallas.com | February 15, 2012

Four football players were among 17 TCU students arrested on drug charges Wednesday, and an arrest warrant for one of the players alleges that at least three players were dealing drugs.

According to the warrant, one of the players also said that drug use was widespread on the Horned Frogs' team.

According to Fort Worth police, the players arrested are: junior linebacker Tanner Brock, junior safety Devin Johnson, junior defensive tackle D.J. Yendrey and sophomore offensive tackle Tyler Horn.

Brock entered the 2011 season as a starter and one of the team's best defenders, but he hurt his ankle in September and missed the rest of the season. In 2010, he led the team in tackles with 106 and was named an All-Mountain West performer.

His arrest warrant, which was obtained by ESPNDallas.com, states that an undercover police officer bought marijuana from Horn and Yendrey at their residence on Nov. 3, 2011.

The investigation continued for several months, and on Jan. 18, the officer asked to purchase a half-ounce of marijuana from Yendrey. The warrant states that Yendrey said he was out, but a friend could get the drugs. The officer then was able to buy marijuana from a man who turned out to be Brock.

The officer allegedly again bought marijuana from Brock a few days later. On Feb. 1, the officer was alerted by the TCU police force that the football team was surprised with a drug test. The officer contacted Brock and spoke about the test on the phone.

"Ya, they caught us slipping," Brock allegedly said.

The officer went to Brock's residence and bought $220 worth of marijuana, according to the warrant. The officer told Brock that the drug test was "bull----," and Brock responded, "I failed that b---- for sure."

According to the warrant, Brock said that he wasn't worried because there "would be about 60 people being screwed." Brock is alleged to have said that he and Horn had looked over the TCU roster and concluded that only about 20 players could pass the test.

The officer then asked Brock if he could get him any Xanax or hydrocodone pills. According to the warrant, Brock said he knew a girl who could get them and that he used to buy pills from two other football players, but they had graduated.

Johnson started eight games in 2011 and had 47 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Yendrey led TCU interior linemen in tackles in 2011 and was honorable mention All-Mountain West. Horn was expected to compete for a starting spot in 2012.

The investigation will continue after the sweeping drug sting, and there could be more arrests, according to TCU chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr.

Three of the students were arrested on campus; 14 were arrested off-campus. Boschini said the school has never experienced a mass arrest such as this.

"I'm extremely concerned," Boschini said. "If one kid is involved, it's one kid too many."

Football coach Gary Patterson and athletic director Chris Del Conte both said TCU student-athletes are expected to be ambassadors for the university, and that drug use and criminal behavior would not be tolerated.

"There are days people want to be a head football coach, but today is not one of those days," Patterson said in a prepared statement. "As I heard the news this morning, I was first shocked, then hurt and now I'm mad.

"Under my watch, drugs and drug use by TCU's student-athletes will not be tolerated by me or any member of my coaching staff. Period. Our program is respected nationally for its strong ethics and for that reason the players arrested today were separated from TCU by the University.

"I believe strongly that young people's lives are more important than wins or losses."

Patterson said the team has programs in place to help players make smart choices.

"At the end of the day, though, sometimes young people make poor choices. The Horned Frogs are bigger and stronger than those involved," he said.

Said Del Conte: "Our student-athletes are a microcosm of society and unfortunately that means some of our players reflect a culture that glorifies drugs and drug use. That mindset is not reflected by TCU nor will it be allowed within athletics."

The investigation began about six months ago, and the Fort Worth police worked with the TCU campus police. TCU police chief Steve McGee said the students arrested Wednesday were caught in an undercover operation selling marijuana, cocaine, Ecstasy and prescription drugs.

McGee says the six-month investigation was prompted by complaints from students and parents, among others.

Officials say all 17 students have been taken off the 9,500-student school's Fort Worth campus.

"This is a very clear messsage to everybody that if you want to do this kind of thing, you can't go to TCU," Boschini said.

The Horned Frogs are set to join the Big 12 later this year in a move expected to be a boon for their athletic program. Boschini was asked if he's concerned about the football team being scrutinized.

"I'm concerned about the safety and health of our campus and if anyone is involved in this, they have to undergo that scrutiny," Boschini said. "I don't think it's a football problem. It's four people on the football team."

He called the entire episode "very disheartening."

"We expect more of our student, faculty and staff and that's the message we've give them today," Boschini said. "And 99.9 percent of the students here do the right thing and we want to make sure the ones that don't aren't at TCU."

TCU, also known as Texas Christian University, is a private institution affiliated with The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a Protestant denomination. On its website, the university said 71 students -- less than 1 percent of the student body -- were disciplined for drug law violations in 2011.

Richard Durrett is a reporter for ESPNDallas.com. Information from ESPNDallas.com's Jeff Caplan and The Associated Press was used in this report.

That Brock kid isn't very bright. Coach Patterson is cringing with that comment.

According to the warrant, Brock said that he wasn't worried because there "would be about 60 people being screwed." Brock is alleged to have said that he and Horn had looked over the TCU roster and concluded that only about 20 players could pass the test.

Arlington Heights’ Robinson becomes Horns’ third commitment (http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/longhorns/entries/2012/02/16/arlington_heigh.html)

By Richard Tijerina ([email protected]) | Thursday, February 16, 2012, 01:21 PM

Texas has reportedly picked up its third commitment for 2013.

Fort Worth Arlington Heights offensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson, who is the state’s No. 7 overall recruit on our initial Fabulous 55 (http://www.statesman.com/sports/recruiting/2013-fabulous-55-list-of-the-states-top-2170436.html) list of the state’s top recruits, has given the Longhorns his commitment, according to Hookem.com (http://texas.247sports.com/), the American-Statesman’s Internet partner, which was informed of the commitment from Robinson’s coaches.

Robinson, who attended Texas’ junior day this past Sunday, is the Longhorns’ third commitment. He joins Celina defensive lineman/offensive lineman Jake Raulerson, who committed on Feb. 3, and Dallas Jesuit wide receiver Jake Oliver, who pledged on Wednesday.

All three of Texas’ early commitments are rated among the top eight recruits on the initial Fab 55: Raulerson is No. 4, Robinson No. 7, and Oliver No. 8.

Robinson is 6-5 and 302 pounds.

Per OrangeBloods and his Twitter page, DE Torrodney Prevot of Alief Taylor believes he has a Texas offer (or will receive one). He spoke with Oscar Giles on the phone earlier today and is supposed to sit down with his coach to go over things soon. We all know how UT operates so it sounds like he's been approved by the staff and he'll need to get on campus to make it official. He may be attending JD2 depending on his track schedule.

"I just wanted to help Texas win a national championship," Robinson said shortly after committing.

"I think it's my work ethic and my will to never stop trying. And I keep my head on straight with what I want to do," Robinson said. "On defense, I need to work on just getting off the ball a little quicker. I get off the ball pretty quick, but I can still get quicker. What I do best is swarm to the ball, get off blocks and just make plays."

"I'm a run stopper," he said. "I can make a lot of impact plays. I feel like I have a lot of playmaking abilities."

"It feels good. I wanted to just go into my senior season not having to worry about it and wanted to get it over with," Robinson said. "I'll be there next year to help win a national championship."

Texas coaches have put another offensive tackle target on their board, but they may already be too late.

Dallas Jesuit lineman J.J. Gustafson (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/143579/jj-gustafson), a teammate of new UT commit Jake Oliver (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/138696/jake-oliver), said Texas coaches called Jesuit coach Brandon Hickman on Monday to extend Gustafson an offer to the Feb. 25 junior day.

At this point, he’s not sure he wants to make the trip. Gustafson said he’s never spoken with a UT coach and assumed they weren’t calling because they preferred touted 2013 tackle Kent Perkins (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/143684/kent-perkins) (Dallas/Lake Highlands).

Encouraging news from 24/7 on RB Dontre Wilson. They said the Texas staff made a greater impression at JD1 than previously thought. In fact, Wilson considered committing last Sunday. Quoting chronic because all sites are saying Robinson is being brought in as a DT for now. That means Searels could have two spots work with if UT wants to take four OL because Raulerson is also looking like a defensive player at this point. UT locks up Darius James and Kent Perkins early and they're afforded the luxury of time. The staff can be patient with evaluations, chase Ishmael Wilson or pursue some OOS blue-chippers.

Swoopes was not naive to the fact that the staff wanted their QB in early so they could focus on other needs. He knew Barrett was also a realistic option for them. Factor in the trouble with TCU and his desire to stay close to home and Texas was the right fit. That's a big piece of the recruiting puzzle that the staff just took care of.

I was just about to come in here and ask who would commit today. I kinda like this one commit a day thing, better than all on one day.

Was just thinking the same thing. Pretty exciting. I wonder will RSJ commit today or wait tomorrow to keep it on a dally roll?!

RSJ has to be right behind him. Roommates III. Huge get. It's been a long time since the state produced an athletic QB like Swoopes. He will get compared to VY constantly. I hope he's strong enough to handle it.

Incredible 3 days. Texas has started the 2013 class with 4 top 100 national payers. Amazing.

This kid is likely headed to Alabama, but it's similar to the Cravens recruitment in that the staff has to go after these guys if they want the best. Searels is just the guy for this recruitment since he's so familiar with Georgia and I believe he stopped by Nkemdiche's school during the spring evaluation period last year.

I agree that he is likely to go to Alabama but i just like the mentality of the staff to go after these guys. The mindset of not leaving a stone unturned. I compare this to a guy asking out a girl. U know the girls that are a lock for u to get a date. Then there are some girls that are more of a stretch to get, and she might not be interested after all. But then every once in a while you find out that one of those ladies that u thought u could never get, u get because u asked her and she liked U. A person can only say yes or no then u go about your business. Ive always felt like Id rather ask and pursue and get a answer, then living with the "what If", or "I wonder" factor.

Quotes from QB Tyrone Swoopes and his father after his UT commitment:

"I just really wanted to stay inside of Texas because my parents, my family and everybody could see me play," Swoopes said shortly after confirming his commitment with Texas head coach Mack Brown. "I had already visited the other schools in Texas I was looking at and I just thought Texas was best place for me."

"It wasn't really anything that separated them in the football part of things, It's just the fact that they had wives there, some of the players were still there," Swoopes said. "I got to talk to coach (Mack) Brown's wife, coach (Bryan) Harsin's wife a little. That was really cool."

"I told Tyrone, it's always been a history that Texas has always been a good school to attend, both for football and education. Not only that, I feel it was the perfect fit or Tyrone," Mr. Swoopes said. (UT assistant coach Bruce) Chambers coaches me and coached my younger brother (in high school). Now he's going to be able to coach my son. He's always been a close friend to the family."

"And the look that Tyrone had when he was there, I was just happy with him saying Texas was where he wanted to be. As a family, we're all happy for him. It's not really about what we want, it's about him. We're glad to see him happy and we're excited for him."

"I made the decision yesterday. I called them after school and practice, told them I'd been praying about it and I was ready to commit," Swoopes said. "I called coach Harsin and coach Chambers. Coach Brown is in Hawaii and I talked to him today. They said they were excited for me, ready for me to get down there so we can start winning."

"It makes me very proud," Mr. Swoopes said of his son's commitment. "I always refer back to the toughness of Tyrone as a kid. He's always been tough on and off the field. He has great, great qualities about him as far s being a classy young man. He never gets in trouble, I've never had to discipline him."

"It makes me proud to know he's going to make himself a great name and do great things at Texas. It's a great day. I'm proud of him. The whole family's proud of him. We we have a close relationship. I'm kind of speechless."

"I had just got off my knees praying. He texted me and asked me to call him. I called him and he said 'Dad I'm ready.' I'm very proud of him," Mr. Swoopes said.

"I've never had to discipline him. I've said it many times before, but God has really blessed me with Tyrone," Mr. Swoopes said. "I'm honored to be his father. I know Texas will be proud when he steps on the field and he will contine to show the leadership skills that his mother and I have tried to instill in him."

Quotes from DE/LB Mike Mitchell. He's definitely a favorite to receive an offer at JD2. Rivals has him down for a Florida offer (his home state) but he says he has yet to receive one (24/7).

“As of today, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU and Oklahoma have offered,” Mitchell said. “Well, I have to call OU to get the offer, and I will.”

“I knew of TCU and Texas growing up in Florida. I’m learning more and more about them," he said. "I like the coach from Texas A&M I’ve talked to, Coach (Brian) Polian. I talked to Coach (Darrell) Wyatt from Texas and they said they are very interested. Things have changed for me, it’s probably an even race for everyone now.”

“I might go to Texas A&M Saturday. Maybe TCU and Texas on Feb. 25,” he said.

“Baylor, is definitely one that I think will offer," he said. "UNLV (where his father Ken Mitchell played) would be another. And pretty soon, I think Florida will.”

“I think I’m going to talk to them (Florida staff) this weekend. It would be great to be offered,” he said.

I wouldnt be excited about this commitment at all if i were a aggie. Nor would i be to excited if he committed to the longhorns. This seems like a strategic security blanket commit until LSU comes calling. Im glad he did pull the trigger, because as Mex said, "Let's go after Gustafson now." i think great chance he sticks with ags. aggies have been strong on offensive side of ball and sumlin is an offensive mind no doubt. not to mention don't rule out the bad blood of him feeling shunned by LSU.

really for me the biggest pickup and surprise for a&m has been isaiah golden. that one was huge. they need top DL recruits as their defense has been abysmal and now their headed to SEC where they need serious depth. they need to make their #1 focus manning at this point, because if they don't get guys like that they will never be competitive- no matter how many top offensive prospects they get.

I'll agree TAMU is a safety blanket. Congratulations to the young man, he has his college education paid for regardless. If Wilson has a strong senior season, I think LSU will offer. At the very least, his commitment to TAMU will get LSU' decision.

I think Maurice Porter should be invited to JD2. My gut feeling on Gustafson is that he isn't very interested in Texas. Hopefully that changes. He's as good or better than Ish Wilson.

The Hicks news is awesome, but Searels lost one of his top 4. Things will get interesting if Wilson comes to JD2.

Im not trying to discredit how big of a commit this is. No doubt that a commitment from Ishmael deserves excitement, but I just couldnt buy all the way into it knowing how much he likes LSU and how animate he is about it. That worry would nullify my excitement some. Texas was able to get 3 quality prospects late in the recruiting season last year just based off of their initial love for the school. Texas slow played them and a lot of people may have thought that those prospects weren't a high priority for Texas, but when Texas came around, showed interest and offered, they eventually committed. Not saying that this is a definite to happen, it just worries me. That would be a big get for the Aggies if he stays true to the commitment.

"I just love the coaching staff. Coach (Major) Applewhite and me have a great relationship," Hicks said. "I've been talking to (Texas) every other day, getting to know them. I just see myself playing there, and I didn't want to pass it up."

"They said we all have our different styles of playing. They were saying I could be a wildcat back, work in different formations, things like that," Hicks said. "Whatever they need. I'm just happy. I'll play hard, try to get Ws for my team. Whatever they ask."

"It's a pretty big relief, not having to worry about what school you have to go to," Hicks said of his decision. "Now I can focus on getting better in the off-season and winning a state championship next year."

**OL Ishmael Wilson will not be attending UT's second Junior Day.

**QB JT Barrett says he still plans to attend JD2 and there is some talk that UT may offer despite having Swoopes committed. Barrett has always been a Texas fan so there could be an attempt to sell him on coming in and competing for the job. If that were to somehow go through, that's the ultimate recruiting job by the UT staff considering Barrett could be a star for another school.

**The commitment of ATH Kyle Hicks will not affect RB Dontre Wilson at all. They were offered with different roles in mind and UT is still sitting pretty with Wilson.

White is a good pickup for the Ags. Will Prevot follow him? I hope not.

Prevot in regards to their other pick up, Wiggins. Sorry.

I really like A&Ms class so far. Sumlin is doing a great job and he might actually keep them til the end.

That's the key.

I know this is off topic, but how did Barnes convince Durant to come to Texas. Dude is a beast.

I have to admit when I first read in this thread that James White had committed, I thought it was a sarcastic comment that James White! had given us his verbal after all the other commits we've had over the past few days. I'm impressed with Sumlin's recruiting so far, I hope he can keep it up.

If ags can get at least 6 wins and avoid ugly blowouts they should have no problem holding on to their recruits. but with some nasty blowouts and less than 6 wins, i can't imagine not seeing defections. will be critical to have at least a mediocre year. nobody is expecting a ton in first year, but a horrible year would be death blow.

Sumlin can recruit like hell, and has been great benefit to get issues at TCU, and more notably (and surprisingly) the absence of OU in Texas relatively speaking. it appears sooners are taking more national approach and a&m is a major beneficiary of that strategy shift.

I expect LSU, Arkansas, and Alabama to try a make a statement in their games for recruiting purposes. I expect them to really put their foot on the throat and crush the aggsy just to show the elite Texas prospects what they can do.

i don't think anybody expects ags to be competitive with those three teams. only a few teams in the country could be. but at same time, they have to avoid being beat 49-3. but people will understand they need time to build up team and adjust.

ole' miss and miss state will be must win games though.

Gustafson is huge. Great O line prospects with Wilson and JJ committed and would hurt less if Wilson were to bolt to LSU eventually,

According to 24/7, we offered OLB Deoundrei Davis.
I really like that offer! He has a very intriguing video on hudl, but I can't find it (i'm on my phone)

Can anybody tell me about Mike Mitchell? Is he a good football player or just a phenomenal athlete? All I know is that he's a good athlete with a brother who might be the best basketball player at his age..

Damn, thats pretty huge. Not that surprising considering that he supposedly was turned off to Texas because he felt he wasnt a top priority. Well, Bill introduced me to Maurice Porter and he is a beast.

Gustafson may be a better pick-up than Wilson. I kept wondering why he was talking about so many different schools when it appeared he was all A&M. Very strong family ties. Crazy how quickly Sumlin is filling up this class.
