Quotes from top 2014 WR KD Cannon of Mount Pleasant (24/7):
“Recruiting is just crazy,” said Cannon. “It’s unbelievable all the schools I’m hearing from. Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, SMU have stopped by recently.”
“He (Darrell Wyatt) told my coaches that he really, really liked what he saw,” Cannon explained. “I didn’t get to talk to him much, but he said to keep up the hard work and continue to get good grades. He said I need to stay focused.”
"I’ll be going down there in a few weeks,” he said of the visit to Austin. “I’ll be at their summer camp. It should be a good one. They always have good quarterbacks and good wide receivers down there. I’m looking forward to working with the coaches and top high school players.”
“My two favorite are Texas A&M and Oklahoma State,” he said. “I like others, but those are my top ones at the moment.”

Looks like Texas is still searching for an additional OL take for this class. The staff is scheduled to go by Katy Seven Lakes to see OL Caleb Benenoch (who is currently committed to Michigan State) on Tuesday:

"I think they're coming this Tuesday. I think it's supposed to be coach (Oscar) Giles," Benenoch said. "They've been recruiting me for a while. I first met coach Giles my freshman year."
"I'm not sure where I stand as far as Texas goes . It would be nice to get an offer from them since I've been a Longhorn fan for a really long time. My coach told me there's a chance they might put an offer out there, but I'm not sure."
"I am still committed (to Michigan State), I'm just looking around this summer," Benenoch said.
"I think what I'm showing them is that I can play with my hand on the round very well, as well as off the ground. It shows my versatility," Benenoch said. "Last year, we ran the spread so I was always in a 2-point stance. Now I'm showing people I can do it just as well if not better with my hand on ground. I think it's helped me get a lot of offers.
"I like it. Now I can come off the ball and blow people up."
"I'm always motivated when I step on the field. But I will be inclined to put on a show out there (when Texas comes by)," he said.

Quote from JUCO DT Toby Johnson (OrangeBloods):
"I don't know where that's coming from. That's a mix-up," Johnson said. "When coach (Rion) Rhoades asked me for a list of schools I was interested in, I put Texas on the list but that's it. I haven't talked to them and I haven't heard that my coach has talked to them either."
Also from 24/7, certain staff members will be making a trip to Georgia this Tuesday and/or Wednesday to see S Vonn Bell and possibly DT Robert Nkemdiche.

He was originally set to commit last Friday, but he changed his mind and wants to take official visits. No set date right now but most people think he's a sure thing for Alabama.

however, A&M was one of the primary reasons the BXII was an under performing conference. having huge fanatical fan base in middle of most fertile recruiting grounds, and like 1-9 in bowls with only win in gallery furniture bowl or something along those lines?

Texas is trying to make an early impact in 2014 with their OOS recruiting and they got to Georgia earlier than expected. Bo Davis was in Hinesville, GA today to see 2014 LB Raekwon McMillan who is ranked the #14 overall prospect in the nation by 24/7. He's originally from Texas and while it's unknown what his interest level in the Longhorns is at this time, he was supposedly extended an offer while Davis was at his high school. That makes McMillan the fourth unofficial offer in the 2014 class behind OL Cameron Robinson, OL Demetrius Knox and DE Hoza Scott. He will be one of the select few underclassmen at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge this summer.

“I was under the impression that they don’t recruit outside of the state of Texas, which I know they don’t very often,” said Sandland, who caught 20 passes for 265 yards and two scores last season. “When they do, I knew it was kind of a double-whammy against me because I know they don’t go the juco route that often. So when he stopped by I was pleasantly surprised. I’m glad I’m on their radar and I got some interest from them. They definitely have a ton of interest from me.”

More on Sandland...he said he originally asked one of his coaches if they had any contacts with Texas. Nobody on the staff did so things kind of stopped at that point until Bruce Chambers showed up on Monday. Sandland said he wants to use his official visits but only to schools that have offered which is understandable. Needless to say he'd be even higher on UT if they offered and he supposedly had a nice conversation with Bryan Harsin last night. More quotes:
"Yesterday (Monday) was the first contact I had from Texas. Coach Chambers was here and got to watch me lift and do some conditioning. We don't practice on Monday. I wish we would have to give him a better show, but he checked everything out. Things are still in the really, really early stages."
"Texas is a school that I'd be really interested in. Who wouldn't be with a school like Texas being in Big 12 and the kind of offense that they run? So I was pleasantly surprised," Sandland said.
"I think first and foremost, they reached out because of their immediate need at tight end from talking a little bit to coach Chambers. He made it clear that was a position they needed help in," Sandland said. "After this season, they're graduating two tight ends and they have two others who are converted defensive ends that haven't even played tight end. I think the fact that they have a need at tight end led them to look at junior college tight ends. Then they came across my film and liked it enough to send coach Chambers to come see me face to face."
"Right now, it's too early. I don't have a top list of favorites or anything like that," Sandland said. "I'll probably start to narrow things down in a couple months. I don't really want to rush into anything. By time the season starts, I'll probably have a top five but I don't want to rush. I'd like to keep my options open."
"I plan on taking all five officials and I'll take a couple unofficial visits probably coming up in June. I don't have anything set in stone, but probably I'll probably head up to Cal, probably go down to Tempe to check out Arizona State and then possibly Texas Tech and Nebraska."
"When I was growing up, I was always a professional football fan. I didn't follow college too much until the last couple years when it looked like I would have a chance to be playing college ball. When you ask anybody, ask a random person on the street who is in the upper echelon, the big time college programs, Notre Dame, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida - schools like that always come up," Sandland said. "So Texas is obviously a team I'm interested in, for a lot of reasons. Mack Brown, his players love playing for him and would run through a brick wall for him. His tenure there, how long he's been there. Also, being in big 12, I consider that the best offensive conference in college football.
"Being a school like Texas that runs that kind of offense, it's pretty exciting for any position, especially wide receivers and tight ends. There are only a handful of schools that utilize the tight end to its full potential, and Texas is definitely one of those schools. If you're a high school or college tight end, you'd be dumb not to consider Texas."

Good news from Inside Texas. They were able to speak with the head coach of 2014 OL Braden Smith from Olathe, KS yesterday and they discerned that the kid basically has a UT offer at this point. The only hang-up is Smith's coach isn't letting any colleges come by to evaluate him because they don't want any distractions. Stacy Searels is one of several coaches that weren't allowed on campus. He also said Smith won't be taking any unofficial or official visits from August to December and will not have any contact with coaches during that time. He even turned down an invitation to the Rivals Five-Star Challenge this summer. Sounds like one-of-a-kind recruitment that should be fun to follow. He's ranked #11 overall by 24/7.

LSU fans say there is a lot of butthurt from both father/son as he wanted an offer but was told to come to a camp 1st.
He didn't like that and told them to scratch him off the list.

Im not really upset about Wilson to Oregon. He was definitely a luxury pick and quite frankly I dont blame him for his decision. Now we can use that scholly on someone more vital. I wish we would extend a offer to Priest Willis but i think Akina likes more of a CB/S hybrid and Priest is a pure safety. Plus we already have a offer out to a pure safety in Harris.

Shuttlesworth over at IT was posting he believes that Kenny Stills is on thin ice over at OU due to now failing two drug tests. Sounds like at minimal they will have watchful eye over him and at this point even the slightest slip and he'll be dismissed from team.
I know Shuttlesworth had posted about this earlier that other players on the team were pissed b/c they felt like better players got preferential treatment over issues like this (remember the WR that was a senior and his father posted a bunch of stuff to twitter slamming OU?). I think the inference was Stills had failed a drug test back then and they still let him play right afterwards.

"I'm ready to just start playing football on this level, trying to make an impact on this level. I want to be a great player at Texas, not just stop playing at the collegiate level."
"There's a package they sent me a while ago, workouts we follow. I do the (Texas) team workouts," Jones said. "I talk to a bunch of guys on the team about their workouts. You just have to mentally prepare yourself for the beating, the tough workouts in the morning. It's just going, going going all the time. The hardest thing is mentally preparing for it. We all have physical attributes to get us here, now you have to be mentally prepared too."
"It's good weight. I can run fine. I'm just me maturing. It's just me maturing and filling out," Jones said.
"I feel like they wouldn't have recruited me if my responsibility would have been to sit on bench," Jones said. "I'm preparing for that. It will be tough to lean a lot of positions, but that's why we play football. Whatever they tell me to do, I'll do it. whatever gets me on the field."
"The offense is very complex. A lot of players have specific roles, some others don't. I want to be able to know multiple roles that will help the team if someone goes down."
"It's going to be a big adjustment - school, study hall, a lot of responsibilities. It's time to grow up and be a man," Jones said. "You'll have fun playing football, but it's also your job. You're here to do schoolwork first, football second. Stay out of trouble. It's going to be fun and it's something I'm looking forward to."
"UT is the place I felt most comfortable," Jones said. "The players always make me feel comfortable any time I go there. It's a place I grew up around and I wanted to play football there and make people happy."
"You can't control what people say," Jones said of the occasional recruiting rumors that popped up. "There were times people would say things I supposedly said, and those words never came out of my mouth. It's all in the past now. I'm ready to move in and move in."

Latest with DE Hassan Ridgeway (24/7):
“I’m heading down to Austin tomorrow to get settled in,” Ridgeway said on Saturday. “I’ll be rooming with Torshiro (Davis) and am really looking forward to it. It’s exciting, but at the same time I’m a little nervous. I mean, you’re getting to watch these guys on TV all year long and now you’re going to be playing with them. It’s no longer high school ball. It’s the big boys. I’m ready though. I’m ready to go out and compete.”
“I’ve been doing a lot of running,” said Ridgeway. “After football, I was in basketball for a little bit. Then, once that was over, I started up track. So there was a lot of running involved in doing both of those things. Plus, I was also working out and lifting weights on my own. I’ve been doing Bennie’s (Wylie) workouts and those have really been paying off. They took awhile to get used to, as they were much different, but I got them down.”
“They want me to be a run stopper,” Ridgeway explained. “So I need to work on a few things to really be a good one. I definitely have to get a lot stronger than I am so I can handle offensive linemen more easily. I also want to get a lot faster so I can chase those guys down before knocking them down. Those are the two things I’ll focus on.”
“There are two things I want to do when I’m out on the field,” explained Ridgeway. “The first is to wreak havoc every single time, no matter what I’m doing out there. The second is to make as many plays as I can. I want to be everywhere the ball is. That’s what’s important as a defensive player.”
“I just want to be on the field,” Ridgeway said. “I want to play. Of course I’d love to see a lot of time on the field on defense, but I’ll also contribute on special teams if they need me. I just want to play. If they don’t need me right away, I also have no problem redshirting. That way I can continue to get better and help my team out later down the road. But, like I said, I want to play, so hopefully I can see the field early. I think I can make that happen if I go out there, work hard and show them what I can do. That’s all they ask for and I know I can do that. It just all depends on me.”

Latest from DT Alex Norman (24/7):
“Since that (the injuries) happened I’ve been trying to rehab my body and getting everything right with it,” said Norman. “That has all been going real good. My injury that I had doesn’t bother me anymore and I feel like I’m back to 100 percent now. I go up to the school every afternoon and workout for a little over an hour. I’m just trying to get all my work in so that I can be prepared and ready to go. I definitely don’t want to go down there and show up out of shape or anything, so I’ve been pushing myself hard every day to work out.”
“As far as my workouts go, they’re pretty tough,” Norman said. “I do all of Bennie Wylie’s workouts, but then I also add some in from my high school coach that really help me out agility wise. It’s been paying off. I feel way better, stronger and quicker. I can especially tell the difference in my feet. They’re a lot faster and I just have better agility with them. I really feel like I’ll do quite well once I’m down in Austin.”
“I’m really just trying to improve every aspect of myself as a player,” Norman told Hookem.com. “There is always room for improvement, no matter how good of a player you are. There are a few certain items I’m zoning in on as well. My quickness, explosiveness and strength are real important to me since I’m a defensive tackle. The more those things improve, then the better player I become. But, like I said, I’m working on everything. I can’t just focus on one thing. You always have to keep working hard at everything.”
“I just want to get out there and take care of business,” he explained. “I want to do what I do and just show everyone how good I can be. I give it all I have every single day in the off-season and I plan to give 110 percent every single play during football. I know if I do that, I’ll be doing some good things and making some big plays out there.”
“The idea of redshirting is something I’m considering,” Norman said. “I’m still thinking about it all and trying to weigh the options of redshirting versus not redshirting. I think it will all depend on how I do the first few weeks down there. That will probably help me determine my decision. Right now though, I want to play. Plus, the coaches have told every single player coming in to be ready to play. They want fresh legs in the game constantly. So I have to be prepared no matter what.”

Quotes from K Nick Jordan (24/7):
“I’d love to start my freshman year,” Jordan said. “I feel confident in my abilities and think I have it all down. Obviously redshirting will always help, no matter what the position, especially with getting bigger and everything. At the same time though, at my position specifically, there’s only so much you can learn before you’re put in the spotlight. So honestly, I feel like I’m ready to start if given the chance.”
“The coaches have told me I have a really good chance of playing as a true freshman,” Jordan told Hookem.com. “I just have to keep doing what I’ve been doing and work hard. Obviously I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but they said I definitely have a chance to come in and potentially have a spot. I just have to keeping getting better and really show them that I have what it takes to earn that spot.”
“For the most part, they’ve been talking more about me kicking field goals,” he explained. “There’s a chance I could contribute everywhere, except punter probably. But kicking field goals would be my main thing. Coach Applewhite told me that’s what they’re currently having the most problem with is (field goals), so he said he wants me to focus the most on it and work on it constantly.”
“Mainly, I just don’t want to let down the coaches,” Jordan said. "They’re expecting a lot from me, so I don’t want to come in and let them down and make them think I’m not what they expected. So, for the most part, I just want to live up to what they expect from me.”
“I’ll actually be rooming with Ben Pruitt. I’ve gotten to know him some since I took my official visit to Texas a long time ago. He was my host during that time, so we really hit it off,” he said. “Since then we’ve stayed in touch and he’s been giving me pointers. Not really advice on kicking or anything like that, but just telling me what to expect once I get down here. He told me that the first day will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but once you get through that it gets better. He said try to get prepared, even though there’s no real way to be completely ready for it all.”
“Recently I’ve been doing a lot of lifting,” Jordan told Hookem.com. “I’m following Coach Wylie’s workouts. I’m trying to get as big as I can before I get there. I can really tell the difference in myself now that I’ve been doing them. When I look in the mirror, I can easily see I’m much bigger. I have more mass now and have gained probably five or ten pounds in muscle since doing them. I’ve also been trying to make sure I’m where I should be with my kicking. I want to make sure I’m on point, 100-percent when I go down there. I’m just trying to get to where I need to be so I can really show the coaches what I can do when I get there."

Report on Cole Luke at 7-on-7 in AZ --
--------------------
Two of the nation’s top cornerback prospects were on display at the Phoenix Under Armour Sevens 7-on-7 tournament on Saturday at Hamilton High School. Cole Luke (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and Priest Willis (Tempe, Ariz./Marcos de Niza) both lived up to their billing as elite prospects.
2- Cole Luke, CB, Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton
As far as a pure cornerback goes- Luke looked better than Willis. Willis ranks higher as a prospect because of the versatility factor and his size, but Luke is one of the best pure cover corners in the country in a recruiting cycle where the position is extremely deep. Luke’s ability to change directions and recover stood out as elite. Several times, it looked like he literally came out of nowhere to break up passes. Oklahoma seems to still be in good shape here, but a Texas offer earlier this month likely puts the Longhorns in the thick of things as well.

Free article on 247 with below written on Von Bell:
http://247sports.com/Article/Five-new-five-stars-in-the-Class-of-2013-Top247-75232
"We’ve been talking about Bell being a five-star for the longest time and made the call to go ahead and pull the trigger. Rankings are comparisons and many times you get a look in person at other prospects, then go back and compare. Once you get a feel for how they stack up, then you can better make a determination on a ranking. This was the case with Bell as we feel that not only his outstanding playmaking ability on film, but his versatility (something we reward) is a plus. It would not surprise us to see him end up playing cornerback at whatever school he picks, which is definitely wide open at this point (though we think the SEC or possibly Texas). He is now No. 18 overall in the Top247 and No. 2 at safety."

Update on RB Kyle Hicks' broken foot. He will have surgery on Wednesday:
"When I got to the 200 meter mark of my leg (at the regional track meet), I felt a pop in my foot," Hicks said. "I went ahead and finished the race off. But whenever I walked on the field, I couldn't put any pressure on it or walk very well."
"At first, didn't know it was broken. I finished the race, but when I started walking, it hurt really bad," Hicks said. "When I felt the pain, I had a pretty good idea it was broken again."
"The doctor had cleared me, but he said the bone hadn't fully healed all the way. I probably should have waited a little while before running," Hicks said.
"I go in with the attitude, I have to get healthy. I never want to be the guy on the sideline watching the team," Hicks said. "It was really frustrating, so it motivates me to get back healthy and never have to go through it again."

Another OOS blue-chipper Texas has checked on is 2014 TE Mark Andrews of Desert Mountain HS in Scottsdale, AZ. He reminds you of the kind of kid Stanford would sign. He mentioned there being a slight chance he could attend one of Texas' summer camps. Here are some quotes from 24/7:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1gaVF6Ba6w
“Texas stopped by on Wednesday to check in on me,” Andrews told Hookem.com. “It was the tight ends coach, Bruce Chambers. He watched us practice for a little bit so he could evaluate me.”
"We didn’t get to talk much at all because of the rules and such,” Andrews said. “But I did introduce myself and had a chance to meet him. He basically said that they’ve been watching my film and are very interested in me. That was about it. They’re supposed to keep track of me and be in contact later.”
“They told them (the Desert Mountain coaches) I need to come down,” he explained. “I could visit for either a camp or for a game in the fall. I’m going to try to, but probably for a game.”
“Texas is a very, very good school,” he said. “I actually have a couple of cousins that go there. Plus a lot of my family lives around there, so I’m very familiar with the area and everything. I like the state of Texas a lot too.”
“I don’t have any favorites,” Andrews told Hookem.com. “The school I grew up loving was Oklahoma. My grandparents live there and my father grew up there, so it’s sort of a family thing. They all root for OU, so I always have too. But, once again, they aren’t my favorite school or anything like that now. I’m open to everyone.”
“It’s been really cool to get all this attention,” said Andrews. “I’ve heard from Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, UCLA, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Boise State and Oregon. Many of those, like the Buckeyes, Michigan, UCLA and both Arizona schools have offered me.”
"I actually just started playing football my freshman year,” Andrews explained. “I was always just a basketball and soccer player leading up to my freshman year. I never wanted to do anything else at the time. Then I just decided ‘why not?’ one day. I knew I had the abilities to play football so I thought I would give it a shot.”
“I’d definitely say I’m a ‘finesse’ wide receiver,” Andrews said. “My size really gives me an advantage since I’m 6-foot-6 and 225-pounds. People also think that, because I’m so big, I can’t move fast. They’re wrong though. I run a 4.65 40 so I can move pretty well.”
“At the moment I don’t really have any summer camps set up yet,” said Andrews. “So I’m not sure what I do. If I was to go to one, then it could be somewhere like Texas. I just have a very hectic summer, so I don’t know what all is going to happen to be honest.”

“Texas doesn’t show me any love,” said Collins. “I never hear from them at all. The last time was probably after they invited me to the spring game. I hear from plenty of other schools, but not Texas. I was even planning on camping there again, like I did last year, but since they don’t ever talk to me, I doubt I do. I probably won’t unless they reach out and ask me to come.”

2014 QB/WR Devante "Speedy" Noil is another OOS name to keep an eye on. He's ranked #63 overall in the country by 24/7 and Texas has seen him in person. He attends the same high school in New Orleans (Edna Karr) as DB Noel Ellis. He is a family member of LSU's RB coach, Frank Wilson.
“Texas was by the school this week and told my coach they need a receiver like me,” Noil said Monday. “They told my coach they were going to offer me, so I’m going to camp there in June (10).”

“It just hit me recently that this is going to be my last year and I need to make sure that everyone is doing what they can for the team,” Perkins said. “I'm going to make sure that we've got as many people as possible at the school this summer busting their butts to make sure that we have a good season.”
“My coach told me colleges would still try and contact me,” Perkins said. “I still get some letters. I open the ones from maybe Alabama or LSU, but I'm solid. I'm good with Texas.”
“He (Mack Brown) really answered the questions that I had,” Perkins said. “He told me about what a degree from Texas can do for you, and just the advantages of living in Texas with a degree from Texas, it really made the difference.”
“I was stressed with the decision and trying to focus on school and everything,” Perkins said. “I liked the attention only because it let me know that people look up to me and I need to make sure I'm doing the right things every day.”
“I'm looking forward to working with Coach Searels,” Perkins said. “The more I can I learn from him and the better prepared I can be when I get there the earlier I can maybe get on the field.”
“We have a great relationship,” Perkins said. “I think I'm going to like playing for him. I like how he juices it up.”

Update on LB Tim Cole (24/7):
“I’m excited about it,” Cole told Hookem.com. “I still can’t believe it’s really happening. Something that was once a dream is now a reality. I’m just looking forward to getting down there and enjoying football and the college life. I’m ready to take in every practice and every game. It’s real exciting.”
“It’s definitely going to be a fun experience for the both of us,” he explained. “We’re both rooming together (Cole and Malcom Brown). We’ve played high school ball together for a long time and it’s been our lifelong dream to play college football. It just so happened to work out that we get to continue playing college ball together for a great school. We’re both getting to do what we love and you can’t ask for more than that. I’m looking forward to both of us growing as players.”
“I’ve been doing all I can to prepare for life at Texas,” said Cole. “I’m just trying to get my mind right, stay healthy and doing the workouts they gave us so I can be in great shape.”
“At first they (Bennie Wylie's workouts) were pretty overwhelming,” Cole said. “They were tough. But you just have to keep pushing through them and have that mindset that it’s going to help you, which I did. Now I’m pretty straight with them. They don’t bother me as much now and I can see they are working good. They’ve gotten me bigger and faster so I’m seeing good results from the hard work I put in. I’ve gained about ten pounds of muscle overall. I now am 6-foot-2 and 220-pounds, so I’m much bigger than where I was during last season.”
“I’m not finished yet,” explained Cole. “I still want to get bigger. I think I’d really like to play around 230 or so. I have the frame to carry it and there are plenty of linebackers out there that play around that size, if not bigger. So, for me, another ten or fifteen pounds would be perfect, as long as it’s good weight.”
“I want to improve on everything,” he said. “If you’re not constantly getting better, then all you’re doing is getting worse. I’m planning on giving it my all this off season to really up my game. I want to learn everything I can about the position and also work on some of the key things at my position. So I really just want to become a better player as a whole.”
“The sky is the limit for us,” Cole said of the Longhorns. “I feel like we have a team that can be serious national championship contenders for many years to come. It just all depends on our attitudes, our chemistry and how hard we all work every single day. If that all comes together, then other teams need to look out. We’re ready.”

Texas has picked up a punter from Duke. Here is the release from UT:
Austin -- Punter Alex King has enrolled in graduate school and will complete his final season of eligibility at Texas after graduating with a degree in history from Duke University. "The coaches, facilities, fans, and strong football tradition first attracted me, but in such a short time period the relationships between myself and the coaches and staff at UT are what made me feel most comfortable with changing schools for my final year," King said. "There is so much talent at UT, and I was also impressed with the humility of many of this year’s incoming freshmen when I met them. I am excited to be a part of this team."
At Duke, King appeared in 24 career games, punting 111 times for 4,593 yards and a 41.38 average, the fourth-best career average in school history. He also ranks ninth on the single-season average list after punting with 42.08 yards per attempt in 2011 when he was named second-team All-ACC. During that year, he ranked third in the conference in punting and totaled 50 attempts for 2,104 yards. He downed 17 of those kicks inside the opponents' 20-yard line, while also recording seven kicks of 50-plus yards. In 2010, King punted 55 times for 2,262 yards for a 41.13 average to rank seventh in the ACC.
King is a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., where he attended Forsyth Country Day School before spending one post-graduate year at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H. While at Exeter, he earned All-New England Class A first-team honors as a quarterback and punter. As a senior at Forsyth, he was named a North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) All-State selection when he threw for 1,400 yards and 21 TDs en route to a conference championship. A four-time prep all-conference honoree, King also played safety in high school and was a starting guard in basketball.

"They say they don't come out to the island or leave the state of Texas to recruit people, but if there's a great player out there we'll come and get him," Pagano said. "So they've given me a chance and they would love for me to come down there and check out the campus and talk to coach Mack Brown. So in July I'm going to Texas to visit down there and see the campus and see what it's like."
"Coach Giles said he would give me an offer but he can't do that because the way they do it is the head coach has to give out the offer," Pagano said. "So he wants me to come down and check it out and talk to coach Mack Brown, and he can see how I am as a student, person and athlete and we will go from there."
"When I made that decision I had like 18 offers and I thought it was going to stay like that so I could narrow it down," Pagano said. "Now I have like 50 offers so I kind of have to go further into the process and take my time and do my homework on every school and figure out what's the best fit for me and my family."
"As of right now for my fall visits LSU, Florida St. and Florida," he said. "As of right now those are schools that are going to get it."

Thanks for posting this, chronic. I definitely saw the rumor that he committed to Baylor and people were congratulating him on Twitter, but then he turned around and said those rumors were false. I didn't know the BU staff put him off like that. Something didn't pass the smell test at the time.

Great news on Luke!
Any ideas of which positions Texas' still "heavily" recruiting? CB, S, LB, DE, DT and an OL or am I completely off target?
Meant to answer this and forgot about it. Here's a breakdown position by position so everyone can see where Texas is at with outstanding offers and some other guys they could be considering for offers. Please feel free to fill in the blanks if I'm missing anyone. WR Ra'Shaad Samples and DT Justin Manning are off the board.
QB
Finished
RB
I think Texas would like to stand pat after Wilson committed to Oregon, but the broken foot of Hicks may make them look for another guy just in case.
WR
Robbie Rhodes, Fort Worth Southwest
Kyrion Parker, Manvel (will attend the June 3rd camp)
TE
Beau Sandland, Pierce CC (Woodland Hills, CA)
Jeremiah Gaines, Red Oak (will NOT attend June 3rd camp)

Toby Johnson, Hutchinson CC (Hutchinson, KS)
DE
Torrodney Prevot, Alief Taylor
Marcus Hardison, Dodge City CC (Dodge City, KS)

Not much movement here unless Texas decides to offer Mitchell as an MLB.
CB
Cole Luke, Hamilton (Chandler, AZ)
Noel Ellis, Edna Karr (New Orleans, LA)
Maurice Smith, Fort Bend Dulles (Texas could move on if he doesn't camp)
Tavares Garner, Manvel (committed to Texas Tech, will attend June 3rd camp)

Quotes from 2014 WR Cameron Sims who will be in town this weekend along with 2014 OL Cameron Robinson (24/7):
“I’ll be going to Texas’ one day camp this weekend,” said Sims. “I’m really looking forward to it. I have other camp stops as well, but Texas will be the first and I’m ready to check out what they have to offer.”
“I’m definitely interested in the Longhorns,” he said. “They’re a great school and have a great football team. They always have some really good players and take care of business out on the field. They also put plenty of players in the NFL, which is where I want to be in the end. And I like that they are close to home, which is something that I really want.”
"Schools that have good offenses are important to me,” Sims explained. “That’s one thing I really look at. I pay attention to what type of offense they run, how they use their wide receivers and how often they pass. I want to go to a place that knows what to do with my position and will make me become a better player.”
“I’ve known Cameron (Robinson) since the third grade,” explained Sims. “We’ve always been great friends and have always gone to school together. We’ve played at the same school all the way up to this point, so we’ve been talking about going to the same one at the next level. Texas might be one of those options, so we’re going to check it out.”
“Recruiting is really starting to pick up,” Sims said. “Right now I have four offers. The University of Washington, Northwestern, Louisiana-Monroe and Southern Miss have all offered me. Also, even though they haven’t offered, I’m hearing from some other bigger schools. I’ve heard from LSU, Alabama, Texas and some others quite a bit. I think I’ll begin to get more offers soon, especially after going to summer camps.”
"I know it’s still early, but I do have a top five,” he told Hookem.com. “My number one is definitely LSU. They’re my favorite right now. After that it’s Alabama, then Texas as number three, Baylor as four and then Georgia at five. Of course that could all change beginning this weekend when I visit these places.”

Quotes from the coach and father of CB Noel Ellis:
"He's the ultimate competitor. He competes on every play, on the field, in the film room as well," coach Juluke said. "He wants to be the best at his craft and he's going to give everything he has.
"Bo Davis came by during spring football. He watched him, saw his film and they needed cornerbacks. He checked him out and fell in love with him," Juluke said. "Coach Davis wants the DB coach to see him in person and evaluate him more. He liked what he saw but he wants the DB coach do his own evaluations."
"I don't know for sure but think they want to offer him. They wanted to go back in their staff meetings, get everything situated. But he's definitely a BCS ball player."
"They reached out to us and obviously, we were happy to hear from them. We're looking forward to going down there on the third and competing, showing what he can do," Mr. Ellis said. "He's really excited and amped about the opportunity to show the coaches that he's not only the best cornerback in Louisiana, but one of the best in the South.
"Texas is a top-notch program on the big stage. We feel like a place like that is where we he wants to be when his decision is made. He wants to be in a position to play on the big state and Texas definitely fits the bill. It's an awesome university and the football program speaks for itself. If an offer was to be extended from Texas, that would definitely put them in our top three schools (along with Texas A&M and Tennessee)."

When Greenlea first got on campus the word was he had attitude issues and wasn't working hard at all and wasn't focused. Not sure if somehow tied to injury somehow but the things I've heard seem to involve the mental aspect and not the physical.
The guys over at IT said right after he got on campus they didn't think he would last and that was just a few weeks after he joined the program. If a guy isn't determined his physical ability and recruiting ranking means nothing.

He hasn't been talked about at all since he visited Austin for Junior Days back in February. I figured his name would get mentioned in the fall if Texas didn't like where they stood with certain DB prospects. Akina and Diaz must have liked him A LOT and I read he had a great showing on Sunday. Good question, Bloeddyr. There's no telling what the staff could be thinking by offering and picking up Huhn at safety, but I don't feel the move was necessarily a reflection of either. Akina and Diaz offered the kid because they like him quite a bit and it's as simple as that. In my opinion, they still want a third DB and will continue to go after the OOS studs.

470 lb. bench press
700 lb. squat
325 lb. power clean

Quotes from the head coach of OL/DL Andrew Billings:
"They (Billings and the UT coaches) met before and after the camp. Once they found him, saw what he did in the drills, they offered him," said Waco High head coach Marty Herbst.
"He can move. He really moves quick for a kid that weight 308 pounds. He did a few one-on-one drills and there's nobody that can push him around. He's a state power lifting champion, so there's not one single person that's going to push him around. Once they saw that at the camp, they knew what they had."
"I'm pretty sure they offered him as a center or guard. It's just what the coaches see when they come to practice that stand out. He gives that extra effort that not every other player will give," Herbst said. "He's diving to make the play, he's doing plays in shorts and still leaving his feet to make plays. That's the competitiveness he has. It's really, really rare. If he was 6-7, he'd be a kid that could skip college and go to league."
"He has a really long arm span, longer than most guys that are 6-1," Herbst said. "That's why I don't think 6-1 is going to hurt him in Division I football. His arms are longer than most kids his height."
"He's a little overwhelmed, which can happen when you have about 50 schools calling you from Arizona to Carolina to Minnesota, plus all the schools in Texas," Herbst said. "There are quite a few on him that have been for quite some time. I do not think you can miss with this guy."

Quotes from 2014 S Jamal Adams of Carrollton Hebron after Sunday's camp. He's a guy we can expect to be officially offered next February:
"I just went out there and gave it my all. The hard work and everything I put in really paid off," Adams said. "I felt like I gave really good effort on everything, never quit on any rep, went hard in everything I did."
"I think it's the hard work that I put in every day," he said when asked what is drawing college coaches to him. "I don't take a day off. I just try to get better, stay humble, stay hunger and try to be best in my class."
"The campus is really nice. I like the practice facilities but what really stood out was the coaches, how much love they show you," Adams said. "I really liked the DB coach. He's very energetic."
"Coach (Mack) Brown told me, said I could flow around and can play all of (the positions in the secondary). They said I remind them of Quentin Jammer," Adams said. "I can play corner or safety. Basically, I'll do whatever the coach asks me to do to help the team win."
"I'm very interested in Texas after the camp. I'm interested in Alabama. I like the way they put DBs in the NFL. I'm interested in Kentucky, West Virginia, Georgia, Florida - I like all the SEC and the Big 12 schools."
"It's DBU (at Texas). They put DBs in the NFL. I just like how much love they show their players, how energetic they are, how good the coaches can be to the players," Adams said.

“They had real nice facilities,” Sims said. “It was a good visit. It was better than I thought it would be.”
“It was real nice,” Robinson said. “I enjoyed it a lot. It exceeded my expectations for what I thought it would be.”
“I went in wanting to develop a strong relationship with Coach Searels and I felt like I really got to know him,” Robinson said. “I feel like as we go forward we have a good relationship and I'm looking forward to getting to know him even better. Today was a good day.”
“I like Texas a little bit better than I did before,” Sims said. “I got a good vibe from being there.”

With the loss of OL Paden Kelley, a new name worth mentioning is OL Christian Daimler of Houston Stratford. He attended the summer camp this Sunday and could be a guy Searels continues to evaluate in the fall:
“He (Searels) was a great coach and real easy to work with,” Daimler said. “He was awesome.”
“We didn't talk a whole lot about it (a potential offer), but they said they'd be talking as a staff in the next few days and that they want me to stay in touch,” Daimler said. “I feel like I'm at a place with Texas where I can go on down the road and feel good about whatever happens.”
“I know they bring in a lot of great recruits and they're always competing for championships,” Daimler said. “I think anyone who gets an offer from Texas has to think it's a great opportunity.”

“We worked a lot of technique points,” Raulerson said. “It was good just to be out there learning with him (Searels). We didn't get to do as many 1-on-1s as I probably would have liked, but overall it was a great experience.”
“We (Raulerson and Kent Perkins) got to work together a lot – we were right next to each other and ran most of the drills together,” Raulerson said. “After working with him, I think he's going to be a great tackle. He really impressed me today.”
“We didn't really talk much about (Hall's recruitment), but I think he's going to be a great end for us,” Raulerson said. “He really competed well.”

"I had a great time (at the camp)," exclaimed Thomas. "It was really a lot of fun and I got to work with a great coaching staff. The camp was just really well run and organized, which is something that really stood out."
“We competed hard every drill,” Thomas said. “There was a lot of competition and plenty of good players out there. I feel like I did pretty good myself. I tried to give 100 percent on every single play.”
“They said I did great,” Thomas told Hookem.com. “They didn’t talk about an offer or anything like that, but said I did a good job.”
“I’ll be back the very first home game,” he said. “I’m real excited about it!”

Forgot to say that if the Greenlea transfer rumors are legit, Benenoch's chances of receiving an offer are much better even though I think Searels would prefer to get a tackle (Benenoch is an interior guy).

Latest with DT Hardreck Walker of Spring Westfield after camping at Texas:
"I showed them I have pretty good hips, that I'm really good at opening and closing my hips," Walker said. "We did a lot of pass rush drills and I kind of showed them how good my hips were."
"I talked to them and they said they'll probably be at my games next year, take my first three games and evaluate them and then we'll go from there," Walker said.
"The highlights for me were the one on ones," Walker said. "I went again one of the best offensive linemen I've ever gone against today. Hands down he was the best offensive lineman I've ever seen. He went to Waco High School (Andrew Billings). He was just so strong, he's feet were so good. If he got his hands on you, there was nowhere you could go."
"They're (Texas) not too high on my list because they still haven't offered. If they offered, it would depend on how far into my decision I was," Walker said.
"I wanted to commit somewhere by the end of the summer, but it might not happen. I'm not sure," Walker said.
"Playing close to home is not really a factor. I'm cool with traveling out of the state. Playing time is kind of big, but the more I think about it, I might redshirt my freshman year for education purposes, get a jump on my schoolwork. So academics will be a big part."

"I guess if you see a guy that is 6-6 line up against you every time that can get off the line, can run, and can jump, it would get frustrating," he said. "You just get worn out with it. It can probably be intimidating."
"I am ready to show what I can do," he said. "It is an honor to be invited and I am ready to go out and go hard."
"I think it will be fun but the first thing on my mind is the competition. I want to be out there working and proving I earned my spot."
"It really was special to get asked to participate," he said. "When I heard about it I figured I would get invited and I was glad that I did."
"I know how hard I worked to get to the top spot. So now I have to go and defend that spot and work hard to stay there."
"Working hard paid off," he said. "But the work is never over. There is always someone out there that is hungry to take your spot and so you have to keep going out and showing where you belong."
"I didn't look too much at who will be at the camp, but I know that I have to work my game and let the chips fall where they may. I have to play hard each play and do what I am capable of doing."
"This is going to be getting everyone ready for college and I hope that my performance shows I am ready to take that step."

325 lb. power clean
Searels has been looking for an additional interior OL even with James committed and I like this offer. He can be really powerful on the inside and will help any team move the ball. He also plays DT for Waco High so I hope he doesn't have a position preference.

I don't doubt RSJ truly loves Texas but the problem is history tells us that Mack is now fighting an uphill battle. Opposing college coaches know that if they want a realistic shot at a Texas commitment, get him to de-commit and Mack will more often than not concede and quit recruiting that particular prospect. He'll take himself out of the equation.
If the rumors are true about Texas telling RSJ he might not have a spot down the road should he decide to de-commit, that was a premature move on their part. Although the negative recruiting against Texas from several schools is a shitty thing, there's also a lot of truth in it. UT hasn't lived up to expectations or done anything (other than defense) particularly well in the past two years, so they aren't in a position to tell a stud recruit how things are going to be because they can't back it up.
It's more important now than it's probably ever been in the Mack Era for Texas to dig in, stay the in the game and not let hurt feelings dictate their course. A great 2012 season will cure a lot of ills and it can't start fast enough, but the bottom line is Texas has to recruit these kids and not the other way around. Mack deviates from that line of thinking quite a bit. We'll have to wait and see how the staff reacts to the biggest de-commitment since Mack came to Austin.

Rivals 5-star WR #Rickey Seals-Jones tells TigerBait's Will Weathers @TigerBaitWill that #Texas still No.1 but check out #LSU & others.
RSJ has commented on Texas still being #1, and the guys at Inside Texas believe after talking to family/friends they still think Texas leads. But keep in mind that he is close friends with a lot of these guys like Swoopes/etc and doesn't want to burn bridges. The fact he de-committed during a camp with all other commits there makes it particularly troubling sign that makes me think we have at best 50% chance to sign him.
The recent insider news I've gotten personally is that Samples will almost certainly sign with A&M and he is already talking them up to other recruits. He really liked Texas initially as I've heard from several sources, but when they slowed down the recruitment when he didn't commit he got very upset by the lack of attention and took it as a slight. He is trying to contact RSJ and I believe it's to recruit him for A&M, although at this point I'm not really worried as much about A&M or Baylor as I am for LSU -- I also expect to hear some new names to enter the mix such as potentially Bama, Florida, that will likely emerge as serious threats.

I agree with you on one thing, this is a little too reactionary. These are 17 y/o kids making a life changing decision. I hope in the end he recommits, but if not good luck to him wherever he ends up. What are you going to do if he recommits? Welcome him back, never celebrate a touchdown that he scores? Will your feelings change and make a decision that he is ok afterall? What would that say about your decision making and convictions? Step away from the ledge. He's an excellent prospect, but one player will not make or break UT. Breathe!!

"I just want to show everybody that I can throw the ball, that I have been working this summer and that I'm good at what I do," Swoopes said.
"I think people do (underestimate him as a passer), just because when you look at my highlights, you see a lot of running. But that's not all that I do. We do a whole lot of passing stuff, I just didn't get a chance to use it last year. This coming up year, I'll have more opportunities to show that I can pass the ball because everybody will be prepared for me to run the ball."
"I've been working on the little things. I've talked to coach Harsin about things and we talked after the camp," Swoopes said. "He told me I have the big things that I need, like arm strength and good feet. You can always work more on your feet, but I want to work on the little things that it takes to be accurate."
"I'm not trying to show anybody up. I'm just trying to better myself and be the best that I can be," Swoopes said. "If someone better than me, that's the way it's meant to be and I'll keep working. But I'll try my best to be the best I can as a football player and as a person."
"It will feel good to know I'll be down there with people I know and that we will be representing the same school in the future," Swoopes said. "I think it will be good for Texas, good for me."

"Coach (Duane) Akina always told me they play a lot of man. We don't play man at our school," Huhn said. "He wanted to see if I could do that and I did pretty well at the camp."
"We went to coach (Mack) Brown's office and he said he wanted me there. He asked if I wanted to be there and I told him that's where I wanted to be. So we said it was a done deal," Huhn said.
"That's just where I'd always wanted to go," Huhn said. "It's really close to home, the tradition is great, football is great. I talked to (former Steele teammate) Malcolm (Brown) and he told me how good it is there and that's what put Texas over the top."
"I think I'll bring hard work (to Texas). I'm going try to help bring a national championship there," Huhn said. "I'm going to work hard, not take any plays off. I like to run to the ball and I like to make big hits. And I feel like I can make plays on the ball too."
"It's really a big relief. Now I don't have to worry about taking visits and I can just look forward to my senior year," Huhn said. "It still feels great to be part of the team, part of the tradition."
"I'll just be getting ready for my senior season. It's going to be a special one for me with it being my last high school year," Huhn said. "I want to try to win one more for the Knights."

Quick quote from the coach of ATH Ricky Seals-Jones:
"I think Ricky's long-term future is in football and I've told him that, but he and others want him to play basketball too," Mitchell said. "I don't think it's anything Texas did wrong. Not at all."

Quote from the coach of OL/DL Andrew Billings:
"They (the Billings family) haven't really talked much about anybody from Minnesota to Missouri to TCU. But they really were excited after yesterday's visit (to Texas),” Waco High head coach Marty Herbst said. “That's the first time I've seen that from either one of them."

Major surprise accroding to OrangeBloods. DT Justin Manning is scheduled to attend the J10 summer camp this weekend. Not sure how I feel about that one.

Good news from Inside Texas...
**A new DT has been contacted by UT. JUCO prospect Marquel Combs from Pierce CC in Woodland Hills, CA (same schools as TE Beau Sandland) is receiving interest at the moment. He's currently committed to Ole Miss.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Marquel-Combs-133069
**It was reported by 24/7 on Monday that 2014 RB Donald Catalon was not happy with the UT staff after he attended J3 and nobody acknowledged that he was even there. Well, Applewhite seems to have patched things up and Catalon will be returning to Austin for J10.

CB Tavares Garner of Manvel, who will be in attendance at J10, has de-committed from Texas Tech. He's a guy worth watchiing this weekend. His favorites are LSU and Texas with his teammate, WR Kyrion Parker, comitting to LSU on Monday.

I don't know if its been posted earlier, but '14 RB Devon Thomas, Broken Arrow High School (Okla.), will be camping on J10.
He is my favorite RB for the 14' class, so I'm obviously happy about it.
TFloss, do you have a complete list of the participants?

Garner? Yeah, he's waiting on those two. He's had great performances at 7-on-7s this summer and he attended the LSU camp last weekend. Akina could very well offer him tomorrow.

ATH Chevoski Collins will not be in attendance today. Him being a no-show two weeks in a row along with the commitment of S Erik Huhn most likely means his window of opportunity has closed.

Benenoch says he isn't speaking with the media for a few days but he gave his meeting with Mack and the staff excellent reviews. My guess he has an offer and wants to make things right with the Michigan State staff before switching his commitment.

I think RSJ de-comitting and losing a head-to-head recruiting battle with Baylor all in one week is making things look worse than they are. But, yes, the 2012 season needs to start.

People are overreacting. Rhodes started being recruited way too late, he already liked Baylor. Prevot I don't know, kid apparently has been no-showing other schools as well. RSJ.... :(
I do agree we need to have a good season
