I wonder how the state order conflicts with this stuff.

Looks like Governor Plaguemonger is going to have a fight with the big cities.

From what I read, the City is excluding the businesses covered under the latest Gov order so they can operate. Everyone else that is not an essential business or covered by the reopened services is ordered to work from home. Of course, much of this is still choice. My business falls under the definition of an essential business but we continued to order our office closed and pushed our next decision date to June 1. The City and County are also asking everyone to wear masks but said they wouldn't issue fines. I would have liked to see a bit more aggression from our cities, but ultimately, I just hope we the people use are brains and decided the appropriate amount of risk to take during this pandemic.

"...the recent study, conducted by the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control, suggests that the virus not only passes through person-to-person spread at close range, but can travel farther with help from air currents blowing from ventilation systems.

A second study of the same restaurant, this one using a simulation and led by researchers from the University of Hong Kong, concluded that crowded gatherings and "poor ventilation" with little outside air brought into the room created an isolated loop, allowing virus particles to be transferred from table to table....

The Guangzhou study, which has not been peer-reviewed and is set to be published in a U.S. CDC journal in July, focused on 10 coronavirus cases that were traced back to a restaurant in Guangzhou, China, just north of Hong Kong and 600 miles away from Wuhan, the original epicenter of the outbreak.

....Wuhan closed its borders and enforced a lock-down on the city of 11 million on Jan. 23. That same day, the “index case patient," a 63-year-old woman, and her family traveled from Wuhan to Guangzhou, according to the Chinese study....

The following day, their party was seated for lunch on the windowless third-floor dining room of the restaurant as two other families dined at tables that were set close, but not too close, the study said. Later that day, the index patient developed a fever and cough and went to the hospital. Less than two weeks later, nine other diners were infected -- five of them had been seated at separate tables and were not part of the index patient’s family.

Basically consumers have choices to make for the businesses that did decide to reopen.
It is an acute capitalistic scenario. We live in the now. Plans for the future unknown.

So now we may have produced a whole new avenue for spreading this thing for the future and for the people that did not decide to participate except on a subsistence level. We do have to buy food and some other stuff where contact is made with the participaters. So hope the summer does have maximum environmental impact on this virus. what makes you think I support Trump? I do not support anyone in our federal government

Self-righteous ignorance?

It amazes me how many in here view civil liberties and freedoms as the enemy. Please explain what I am ignorant of?

You are making the case that people are incapable of deciding what is best for them and that a central government and scientific community (hand picked by Trump and other politicians) is needed to act in their best interest. My reference to "fake news" was not a support of Trump's frequent comments. It was a reference to any idea that contradicts the narrative. It was a reference to the mass censorship on social media and internet in general. I don't care how outlandish someone's personal beliefs might seem to you or anyone else, they have a right to express it. It is the individual's job to vet their sources and that certainly includes the spewed crap from the corporations that control 90% of our news information.

Please. If people in this forum are going to be insulting and offensive, at least have the courtesy to provide a genuine take that supports their hostility.

As for a woman and her body, yes she can do whatever. However, she does not have the right to take another innocent life. At conception you have a genetically complete human being that is alive. Over 800k die in abortions every year in this country. My reason for pointing this out is not to get into a debate on abortion, rather than to point out the fact that abortions in this country alone have killed eight times more than Covid-19's INFLATED numbers. This "save lives". simply is not consistent with their actions, is it? Not when it comes to this, war, famine, or poverty.

Quit believing the government and state media actually care about any of us.

If you believe we should be quarantined over this, then you should accept that we all need to live in a bubble for the rest of our lives. We are always at risk. You put yourself and others at risk every day.

yep, the freeDUMB assholes think they are not part of society, have NO obligations to anybody but themelves and their tribe.

Consideration for other people and their freedom? That's socialism.

It's one of the toxic, indoctrinated, self-congratulating myths that Americans lie themselves.

The ideas are that "my freedom, my liberty, and I don't whom I inconvenience, hurt, fuckup.

there has to be a grace period where the govt tries their best to keep the MAJORITY of its people safe -

In a time like this - what is evident - is that GOOD GOVERNMENT can be the difference between life or death.

It's not ineptitude, it's not an accident. They just don't give a fuck. And Trump and McConnell already baited and switched us into the corporate bailout they wanted. There is no need for them to close the country again. They'll just let the bodies pile up.

"WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump lauded Gov. Greg Abbott in the Oval Office on Thursday for freeing a Dallas salon owner who had defied his own efforts to keep nonessential businesses closed, and for reopening Texas businesses early.

“She is free today,” Abbott said, explaining the executive order he issued earlier in the day “saying that in the state of Texas, no one can be put behind bars because they’re not following an executive order. So that includes the woman.”

“Good,” said Trump, adding, "I was watching the salon owner and she looked so great, so professional, so good. And she was talking about her children. She has to feed her children.”......"

"People with spinal cord injuries have weaker immunosuppression capabilities than the general population, according to the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

Wearing masks to mitigate coronavirus' spread has become a polarizing issue in traditionally Republican-leaning Texas. So far Abbott has sided firmly with those less concerned about contracting the virus and more concerned with reopening businesses.

Abbott is one of several governors, nearly all Republican, who have decided to proceed with reopening in their states despite not having reached the diminished rates of infection recommended by the CDC before reopening. On Wednesday, Dallas County reported its highest number of new coronavirus cases to date, eclipsing the previous record, set on Tuesday.

Trump has also refused to wear a mask, against the guidance of federal health officials. ...

A couple of friends from Cali I know have tested positive but neither had to be hospitalized. No one I personally know in Texas is/was known positive. I might have had it since I was really sick for a few days in March (almost completely bedridden, couldn't sit up for more than maybe five minutes at a time) with a temperature that would go between 99 and 101 and really nasty gastro symptoms kind of similar to what SnakeBoy said he had, and he ended up testing as having COVID antibodies. I never got tested though since I never got to the point I needed to be hospitalized and testing was extremely scarce in March, so maybe not and in public I act as if I have not had it. But we're also quite early in the pandemic. Even New York City, the place on Earth most ravaged by this virus, only had an estimated 25% infection rate from the antibody testing they did there. LA County was estimated at about a 4% to 5% infection a couple of weeks ago from antibody testing. Considering we'll need to be at 40% to 70% infection rate to stop this virus we're still in for a long and bumpy ride most likely.

so, if it is as contagious as they say, I would expect there to be more cases, yet most people I ask don’t know of anyone personally that has actually tested positive. I believe the virus exists and I believe it can make you very sick and possibly kill you if you are compromised, however I have not seen anything personally that supports what is being reported.

I go by Methodist every day and it looks like a ghost town. If the virus is indeed very contagious, I would expect that it has already run its course, and if not, as you suggest, will we ever keep it from ultimately running it’s course?

These are questions none of us can completely answer without depending on others. People with credibility that challenge the severity have been censored. That is disturbing. I’m not saying they are right, but why can’t reasonable suggestions be heard? If you search google or YouTube for anything that suggest this is exaggerated, you get site after site talking about fighting “fake news”. That was not the case 3-5 years ago. People are being censored, and whether anyone agrees with them or not, that is very disturbing in my opinion.

Who is being censored? I know there is a conspiracy theory going around that it's way more widespread than people think but antibody testing seems to indicate nowhere is anywhere close to even lower bounds for what herd immunity infection rates could be. We do know it has killed 1 1/3 Vietnam War's worth of Americans in about a month and a half. Of course we're not going to keep it from running its course because our government's stance is just let it unlike nations like South Korea that took it seriously from the start. 1) I went to 54th Street for pickup and the place was packed. Drove around back to check out the patio dining and every table was taken. No customers wearing masks. Pretty clear a large number are pushing past the 25% limit.

2)I have a cousin and her family (out of state) that came down with covid this week. She and husband are in early 40s, no underlying conditions. Husband started turning purple from lack of oxygen, rushed to hospital and is currently on ventilator. She has developed pneumonia but just got released from hospital. Three kids have it but just complaining of flu symptoms.

She said they never went out except to store. Turns out they had a few visits from asshole mother in law who KNEW she was infected but didn't tell them because she was apparently asymptomatic and they assumed she was fine. Now her son is on a fucking ventilator.

Anecdotal point being that next to nobody is taking this shit serious enough.

what state?
The mother in law tested positive?

better yet, who conducts the test, is the test sent to CDC or can any lab analyze and determine? How do they determine that antibodies are to the exact uniqueness of this Coronavirus strain?

Man, that's crazy. A lot of outliers here. ^

Older, mother-in-law is asymptomatic, but somehow knew she was infected.

Healthy man in his early 40's on a ventilator.

Kids actually have symptoms.

Weird

The mother in law got tested, I'm guessing originally had symptoms that concerned her, knew about it but didn't say anything according to her. I think she "looked" asymptotic to them. I dunno.

There's probably more details that would make the dots connect better, but I'm not gonna beg a stuffed up miserable person with pneumonia to please clarify better so that I can make sense of it all.
I had just broken off a quick phone call to check on her, see if there's anything I could do.

I never heard kids were supposed to be asymptomatic at a high rate. Just that they didn't often develop the pneumonia from an immune system over response, and hence the very low mortality rates for them.

I believe in Texas you have to have symptoms. One of the biggest complaints is that we don’t have enough tests to give to asymptomatic people.

i don’t doubt the veracity of the situation, but I suspect there are a few facts that Blake doesn’t have.

We had a family member go on the ventilator and was in the ICU for 3 weeks. She is getting out of the hospital next week fingers crossed. This is serious shit and people should be taking better precautions than they are.

Shitbag Texas Attorney General Asks Supreme Court to Weigh in on Voting by Mail

Paxton (https://www.texastribune.org/directory/ken-paxton/) is asking the Texas Supreme Court to weigh in on his interpretation of how voters can qualify for absentee ballots during the coronavirus pandemic.

Various lawsuits are pending over whether eligibility for

mail-in ballots can be expanded to voters who risk contracting the virus by voting in person.

Paxton believes it can’t,

and Wednesday asked the state’s highest civil court to issue a relatively rare writ of mandamus preventing local election officials from doing so.

the Republican attorney general asked the Texas Supreme Court to order election officials

in some of the biggest, largely Democratic counties in the state

to follow his reading of existing eligibility requirements for absentee voting,

arguing the court must step in quickly because those county officials intend to apply an “incorrect reading” of state law.

No. It is an example of people ignoring the science. If you want the actual science, you are just as capable of searching google as I am.

Masks, social distancing, and limiting contacts. The very fact that we have flattened the overall curve by doing all of those things should provide enough tentative proof to accept that as likely true.

I pointed out in my post that he reversed the policy. He was just late to the party choosing to ignore the science and people dying for over a month before reversing course. He also delayed sanitizing public transportation. That isn't okay. Its okay to be mad at him even though you are a democrat. Applications for a mail-in ballot contain boxes to check for disability, age, being out of the county or being in prison. There is no place to indicate that fear of COVID-19 is driving the voter’s choice, and election officials emphasize that they have been trained — by the Texas secretary of state’s office, no less — to accept and not investigate a voter’s claim of disability.

Texas Began Opening Businesses May 1. Now,

They’re Averaging 1,000 New Cases of COVID-19 a Day

Texas has only had two days where they didn’t reach 1,000 new coronavirus cases—May 4 and May 7—and five consecutive days of at least 1,000 new cases, the Hill (https://thehill.com/homenews/coronavirus-report/497509-texas-sees-1000-new-coronavirus-cases-for-5-days-in-a-row) reports.

Texas, being the asshole state that it is,

didn’t even try to reach the White House benchmark of waiting

until they had at least “a 14-day consecutive decline in daily new COVID-19 cases before beginning to reopen,”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) warned cities not to implement their own coronavirus guidelines to protect citizens because the state government had spoken.

more than 1,100 Texans have died from the virus,

but why would that stop an asshole from being an asshole—

and the entire state of Texas is an asshole. :lol NO! it's shitbag Repug shithole

I saw this somewhere else and thought it was appropriate for this thread. I didn't write it.

“Flattening the curve didn’t mean stop the infection, but spread it out so that the system could handle it. I am seeing so much anxiety about resuming business, and so much anger about continued regulations. People are feeling the need to catapult to one side or the other, then fight the opposition.

Here’s my perspective, from a mainstream medical model. I think a lot of folks have fallen into the idea that social distancing was meant to stop the viral spread. It wasn’t. It was meant to SLOW it while we put medical infrastructure in place. It’s not perfect, but it’s much better than it was seven weeks ago.

A vaccine is a long way off. At some point, people have to be systematically exposed to begin the building of (hopeful) herd immunity. We will likely begin to experience a real increase in cases after reopening. Ideally, that exposure is controlled and calculated, in phases, to allow our medical community to respond adequately, and reduce the number of severe or fatal cases. That’s where we are.

Whether you feel like things will be opening too soon, or not soon enough, we were never going to social distance this thing into nonexistence. You now need to proceed as your health, wallet, and conscience allow.

If you are medically vulnerable, you do not need to be a part of what is about to happen. Stay home if you can. If you’re not, or if your financial vulnerability trumps your health concerns, you need to proceed in ways that continue to protect yourself, and the elderly and medically vulnerable around you.

All of us need to calm down. Quit telling people who are financially struggling that they don’t care about human lives. Quit telling people who are truly at risk of dying from this virus that they are cowering in fear. Remember that until you’ve walked in someone else’s shoes, you should probably be careful in your judgements and subsequent harsh words.

We don’t HAVE to choose an either/or proposition and fight. We could choose other ways to be. Examples include but are not limited to:

“I think this may be too soon, so I will continue to shelter myself, and pray/make masks/ check on those who can’t.”

“I really need to go back to work, so I will do so, but I will be careful and try to protect myself, my family, and those around me with healthy strategies.”

See how those positions allow each of us to do what we need to, and also respect those who are choosing differently?

Both the right and the left spin their "experts" to support their cause.

You are right, science should be black or white and should not have any political favor, but when you have institutions supported by the state or UN, it becomes tainted. When hospitals' funding depends on a specific cause of death or diagnosis, that encourages dishonest "science"

We certainly should be able to look at science for the truth... problem is, humans have to much power to influence it.

Not to get into evolution, but for example, evolution can not prove that we evolved from apes. "missing link" is a real thing... does that mean species don't evolve? No, there is tons of evidence that supports evolution, but we do not have all the necessary links from ape to man, nor the links from "primordial soup" to ape. These lines get blurred by the scientists and politicians, yet it gets pushed.

The missing link is between lucy and modern homo sapien. "man evolved from apes" suggests a linear development. I won't dispute they are a common ancestor nor the pig for that matter (what we share a large portion of our genetic info with), but evolving from apes suggest that it was all evolution without any help (divine or otherwise).

I have seen plenty of people on the right outright denying the science. Start with evolution, go on to climate change, then the natural progression to deny things about this that the right finds inconvenient.

This is not hard to find.

Science does not take political sides, but political sides now determine how much confidence you have in reason and evidence. The right has gone full argle bargle.

The left has no problem ignoring basic biology. Both sides ignore science when it fits their agenda. But I don't disagree with you assessment regarding the right.

Lol evolution denier.

I bet you were also one of the ones that said "hey maybe Trump is on to something the Lysol injection. It's worth a try!!"

Didn’t say evolution does not exist. Genetics prove it

I am saying there is not enough evidence to confirm people evolved directly from apes. Please show me where I am wrong. Please show me the “science” and I will humbly concede

The boogievirus is here. All the wishing in the world won't make it go away. Along with a lot of other things, the boogievirus is a calculated risk we take when we leave the house. Responsible people know they have to work to earn money to take care of themselves and their families. You do what you can to protect yourself and hope you don't get it.

Ah back to "boogievirus" now. That didn't take long at all.

Most of the evidence is burning up in your car or a power plant or in some plastic shit somewhere.

Sorry I glossed over your post too fast, but you're still strawmanning. I don't see anyone saying people evolved directly from apes.

"single-day high of 58 Texans’ deaths from the coronavirus were confirmed on Thursday, two weeks after Gov. Greg Abbott’s reopening.

The state has reported 116 deaths over the past three days, the most in a three-day stretch during the pandemic.

Of Thursday’s 58 confirmed COVID-19 deaths, three were in Tarrant County and six were in Dallas County..."

The missing link is between lucy and modern homo sapien. "man evolved from apes" suggests a linear development. I won't dispute they are a common ancestor nor the pig for that matter (what we share a large portion of our genetic info with), but evolving from apes suggest that it was all evolution without any help (divine or otherwise).

bible humper is your response? Gee dang it, you got me.

Nothing wrong with promoting science. Presenting probably would be a more appropriate word. My point is people spinning science.

I am not right or left. I believe both sides have valid concerns and beliefs, and yes that even includes you. I don't dislike you or anyone in this forum, and I appreciate everyone's opinion and try to be respectful. I truly believe we all have a common enemy. I just don't think any of us here are certain exactly what that is.

Stick around a little, you'll learn to dislike Boutons.

Nah it boils down to strawman and basically dishonest, chickenshit responses like yours.
