Quotes from OL/DL A'Shawn Robinson (24/7):
“I'm done with all of that, and it's calmed down a lot since I committed,” Robinson said. “It's kind of a relaxing feeling that I'm going where I want and I don't have to think about it.”
“I really like the coaching staff,” Robinson said. “When you talk to the players who are there, you feel like they're actually happy to be there for reasons besides just football. That's what I was looking for and that's what I found with Texas.”
“I haven't really talked to much to the guys who are committed,” Robinson said. “Even at the junior day I was just checking everything out for myself. Everyone I met seems cool, so I'm looking forward to talking with them more.”
“Ever since I was little I've always been active and when I'm on the field I like playing both ways because it keeps me busy,” Robinson said. “I don't want to be bored. When you're always in the game there's always something to do.”
“I've everything both sides offer,” Robinson said. “I just like defense more because it's more intense. You're the guy who is attacking someone. I like that.”
“I feel like I had a solid year personally,” Robinson said. “We came up short of our goal, but I went out with a bang. I feel like I did what I could to help my team.”
“Hook 'Em Horns,” Robinson said. “That's about all I have to say.”

RB Dontre Wilson is finally headed home from Oregon and he did pick up an official offer from their staff. Some quotes should surface in the next few days. Just a reminder that he plans to attend the UT spring game on April 1st. His father has also said they want to make a separate trip to Austin in the future during the week so they can see what campus life is like.

Quotes from 2014 DB Cedric Collins of Dallas Skyline (24/7):
“Going up against tough competition is what’s best for me,” Collins explained. “In practice I go up against guys who play, or will play, at the next level. Going up against Thomas Johnson, Ra’Shaad Samples and those types of guys makes me a better player. It prepares me for our games where I have to cover top receivers from other schools.”
"So far I've heard from a lot of different ones," said Collins. "Baylor, Kansas State, SMU, TCU, Colorado and Texas A&M have been the main ones. Kansas State, Baylor and SMU have actually already offered me."
"My top schools in no order,” elaborated Collins, “would have to be Texas, Miami, Texas A&M, LSU and Alabama. I guess that would be my unofficial top five, but, like I said, that's in not in order or anything."
"I've really only had a chance to speak with Coach Chambers," Collins said. "He's came to our school a few times, so he's the one I've spoken to. He's a real cool dude. I really like him from those few times."
"I really like Texas and have for awhile," Collins told Hookem.com. "Even when I was little I played for a team called the Longhorns, so I guess you could say I've always liked them! The program is great and I like them, but I haven't really heard from them too much yet, you know? I know they kind of play it a year at a time with recruiting, so we'll see what happens. If they talk to me, I'll listen for sure. I wish they would."
"The atmosphere down there in Austin is just crazy when Texas plays football," said Collins. "Those people love them some Longhorns and just get excited and get crazy when they play. I really liked that. That's the kind of stuff I want to see. If a player wants to play there, that's what they want to see. So the support and atmosphere they have for football is perfect, that makes it a good place to play."
“The most important to me, football wise, is the chemistry between the coaches and players,” Collins explained. “It seems they have that. Besides that, when looking at schools, I’m looking at the depth charts, trying to see how quick I think I could get on the field. Facilities are important too. I'd like to play somewhere nice and up to date. They had that too. I also want a good education. That’s really important to me as well.”

Some updates from 24/7...
**DE Torrodney Prevot took an unofficial visit to LSU this past weekend and apparently had a pretty good time. Hard to tell just how much it affected him considering he's thought to be a Texas lean, but he says he's still unsure if he'll make it to Austin for the spring game in two weeks (it's my opinion that he's being coy and will indeed make it to campus). He's scheduled to be in College Station this upcoming weekend to meet their new staff.
**Texas still has their eyes on OG/C Patrick Morris of Denton Guyer as an additional OL take. Darrell Wyatt has informed the Guyer staff that Texas will be by the school in the spring (they also want to check up on 2014 QB Jerrod Heard) and it's possible he already has an offer if numbers weren't so tight for 2013.
**Good quote from DB Maurice Smith of Fort Bend Dulles:
“Texas is still showing interest. I talk to Coach (Oscar) Giles and Coach (Mack) Brown," Smith said Sunday. "They want to come back and see me in the spring. I’m going to wait for that because they are my dream school, but everything is changing with all of these schools coming in and offering me. Anything can happen at this point.”
**If any of you had the opportunity to watch the either of the two open practices, you'd know that UT's kicking game has suffered a major setback with the loss of Tucker. With that said, UT may be looking at another preferred walk-on in K Matt McCrane of Brownwood. He's been in touch with Major Applewhite recently and does favor UT, but more and more schools are starting to contact him. Don't forget Applewhite was responsible for landing K Nick Rose in the class of 2012.
**Practice starts up again tomorrow...thank God!

Some potential drama going down with Dalton Santos. Supposedly he's gotten involved with some 20 year old woman who is a model. She's been messing with his mind a bit(probably via the pussy) and he's been making a few reckless decisions. I'm at work and his mom just tore out of here to handle a situation he's involved in. No details yet but she seemed pretty rattled and that's out of character for her. Ill keep you guys updated as I find out more.

Thanks, benefactor. Hopefully it's a non-story. Santos has always struck me as a guy who you'll probably have to keep an extra eye on off of the field, but he'll be the ultimate teammate on the field.

Update...false alarm on this one. I was told by one of the staff that it potentially involved the female but another one that talked to his mom said he was in a minor car accident and is not hurt. Nurses can be funny with the drama sometimes.
The girl is something to watch though. I warned her that this would happen back when he first committed to Tennessee. A 20 year old chick that is chasing around a semi-high profile high school senior rarely has good intentions. His mom doing a good job of staying on top of him though...says she is in his ear daily about keeping himself focused on the big picture.

Quotes from five-star S Su'a Cravens:
"I talked to coach Akina a couple months before signing day. I asked about a scholarship and he said they don't offer juniors until after signing day, after they get that under control," Cravens said. "As the process went on, I started getting letters from Texas. Then I talked to coach Akina and coach Brown. Coach Brown basically said if I want a scholarship offer, I have it."
"We were talking about my position they're recruiting me at and me taking a visit out to Texas. They said liked me at safety or running back," Cravens said. "I know they signed two RBs in last classes, so it probably wouldn't be as running back."
"Nobody is ahead of anybody else on my list of interest. If Texas offered, that would be big. I've never been to the campus so I'd like to see that," Cravens said.
"Texas is always fighting for Big 12 championship, always fighting for national bowl games ... I watch Texas play OU every year in the Red River Rivalry. They always play in big atmospheres. Texas plays on one of the biggest stages in college football. I like that."
"USC is a nice school and it's right down the street. I grew up in L.A.," Cravens said. "But just because USC is in California, that doesn't mean they're going to get me. They have to work for me just like eveybody else, have to recruit me just like everybody else."

24/7 reporting the state's top prospect for 2014, DE/LB Hoza Scott of La Porte, has confirmed he'll be at UT's spring game on April 1st. He was really into A&M before Sherman's staff was fired so things have loosened up a bit, but UT will have some work to do. Him choosing Ole Miss to be with his older brother would be the best case scenario for everyone. I know UT plays them in the fall, but nobody needs Alabama and LSU adding more firepower. His father said Nkemdiche can be quite impressionable when he's on visits (he said Ole Miss might be his #1 after visiting Oxford) so it'll be fun to see where he sits in May.

Great quotes from LB Dalton Santos. He'll be in Austin this weekend for practice:
"I'm ready. I'm ready. I've never been more ready," Santos said. "I'm ready to knock some heads and do what I like to do. I'm ready to start football season already. It's eating at me. I'm ready to come in and get started."
"Ever since National Signing Day, I've just been training, focused on school, trying to get my stuff together for college. I'm trying to get ready, get my body right, get my mind right, so when I get up there, I can be ready to go," Santos said. "I plan on getting in there and getting a spot real quick."
"Things are going really well. I ran a 4.57 two weeks ago. I'm trying to get into the 4.4s," Santos said.
"I'm mostly working on my flexibility, my speed, getting my weight down. When I get down (to Austin), I want to be fastest side to side and vertical linebacker they've got, and the biggest. I'm focused on key things like that. I feel like my strength is already there, I just need to work on my speed, get to where I can cover guys. I'm doing a lot of work on my hips, my lower body, getting more flexible, more athleticism."
"I guess it was just staying in Texas, staying close to my family and friends. It makes it easier on everybody, my parents and my grandparents. The family and friends, everything like that, really factored in for me," Santos said. "I'm far enough away from home that I don't have to come home, but if something happens I can. And everybody can come to the games. Making that switch was a big thing for me. My family has been Longhorns their whole lives, so it really worked out for the best."
"The coaches think if I can get the playbook down, I'll touch the field early for sure," Santos said. "I feel like they can't keep me off the field. That's the way I look at it. I plan on getting in there, no matter who is there, I'm going to get in there and get the job I want, I'm going to bust my butt to get it."

I think he's going to be a great teammate. When Mack did his annual National Signing Day press conference, I love that he mentioned how much the staff and current players "oohed and aahed" over his film because he laid so many people out. Nice quotes from 2014 DE/LB Hoza Scott (24/7):
"I'm real excited about it (the UT spring game)," Scott told Hookem.com. "I really like Texas. They offer a great education and it's a nice environment to be in. It seems like a place that I'd really love to be around."
"They're definitely a top school of mine," he explained. "I'd say my top five right now, in no order, are Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, Alabama and Florida."

As was reported by 24/7 yesterday, not only are several 2012 commitments going to be in Austin on Saturday, but the staff is pushing to get the 2013 commitments in town as well. They want to give these guys more time together and also get them in a closed spring practice setting without all of the craziness that the spring game weekend has to offer. WR Jake Oliver is the only 2013 guy confirmed so far but a handful of guys are expected in town this weekend and again next weekend. Here's the updated list:
2012
QB, Jalen Overstreet, Tatum
RB, Johnathan Gray, Aledo
WR, Cayleb Jones, Austin High
DT, Paul Boyette, Jr., Humble
DT, Malcom Brown, Brenham

More nice quotes from ATH Jacorey Warrick. Reminder that his stepfather went to UT:
"They (UT) told me they wanted me for receiver. That was one of my main concerns because I want to play offense," Warrick said. "When I was there, I asked how I was being recruited, and they told me specifically for offense, to come in and play in the slot, do some wildcat stuff maybe."
"It was a bunch of factors. I went down there for the junior day and got to see what the environment was like. I got to hang out with the coaches and it's a family atmosphere. It's close to home," Warrick said. "After we came back and talked about it, we decided it was the best fit for me."
"I had a great amount of support. Of course, he's (stepfather) biased to Texas," Warrick said with a laugh. "But with any decision I would have made, they were supportive of me through the whole thing and they wanted me to make my own decision. But they were happy. My mom was happy also because it's close to home."
"You can just tell that they're really genuine. What other schools have their wives there at junior days? That really caught my eye," Warrick said. "You can kind of feel the family atmosphere just from being around the coaches. When I went, I got to see one of their spring practices. Even at practice, it seems like a fun environment to be in."
"Coach Wyatt stood out. I got to see the wide receivers and everything they did. He's very hands on. I really like him," Warrick said. "You can tell he really loves what he's doing. He draws you to him, and he's not always about football. He was talking a little about other things when we sat down at lunch. In the football aspect, he gets after it and makes you work hard. I like that."
"He (Warrick's coach) tells them we're done with the recruiting process. They're still calling but he tells them that I'm committed," Warrick said.
"It's a big relief to have my commitment out of the way. Now all I have to do is focus on finishing my school year, then play my senior season. I don't have to worry about going to different camps, talking to other coaches. It's already said and done," Warrick said.

It's funny hearing his mom talk about the diet they are all on. They are big people and the coach/trainer that's working with them put them all on the same diet to help Dalton out. She said it's making her and the rest of the family a little crazy.
His comment's line up with what I've heard from her. She said the guy who gave the plan(she said a name, can't remember who) told Dalton he wanted him to lose 20lbs and gain back 10lbs of lean muscle to help him become quicker and more flexible. Can't wait to see him on the field.

Something worth mentioning on five-star DB Su'a Cravens. A big talking point this week with him is if he has an "official" offer from Texas or not. He's said in the past a couple of times that he'll definitely visit UT if they offer. However, it hasn't been made perfectly clear to him that he has one and he says he needs to know for certain where he stands with any school before he takes a visit.
With that said, some coaches from Cravens' school will be in Austin in a couple of weeks and have the opportunity to sit down with the UT staff. I'm not positive why they're coming into town, but it'll be a good opportunity to get the ball rolling with Cravens and get things cleared up. He's definitely a guy UT will take no matter what the numbers look like. Mack has been in touch with him through Facebook and told him he basically has an offer if he wants it.

I'm not worried about an offer to Taylor for quite some time. He seems to be pushing the issue more than that staff is saying he'll commit to UT on the spot. Torrodney Prevot (http://247sports.com/Player/Torrodney-Prevot-18620), DE, Alief (Texas) Taylor
Prevot took home the defensive line award on Sunday, which was not a surprise. His blend of first step quickness, change of direction ability, long arms, ability to turn the corner with a low inside shoulder and closing speed make the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder one of the top edge prospects in the 2013 class. LSU and Texas A&M are out in front at this point, with many others giving chase.

From ESPN on Samples -
Dallas Skyline ESPNU Watch List wide receiver Ra'Shaad Samples said Monday that he suffered a small fracture in his left fibula during a one-on-one drill at Sunday’s Nike Football Training Camp at the Dallas Cowboys practice facility in Irving, Texas.
Samples, a 2013 Under Armour All-American, said doctors found a small break and a stretch of his tibia but found no ligament damage. He is expected to miss 3-4 months, but took consolation in the fact his ligaments were in good shape. Ligament damage could have put him out for an extended period and was speculated to jeopardize a portion of his senior year.
“I’m doing all right,” Samples said. “I left the doctor’s office with a cast on. I won’t have to get a plate or anything. I plan to start rehab in about four or five weeks.”

Quotes from 2014 OL Kealvin Davis of Garland Lakeview Centennial who turned some heads at the Nike NFTC (24/7). It's obviously extremely early for that class but it's worth talking about because Texas is already making a lot of noise with the sophomores and their class has the potential to be really good:
“I’ve been hearing from many different schools even though it’s early,” Davis told Hookem.com. “But I don’t really worry about that. You can let it affect you or anything like that. You can’t start thinking higher of yourself because you’re getting letters or whatever. You just have to continue to push yourself to be better. “
“The Longhorns have been in touch some,” explained Davis. “I’m actually supposed to be heading down to Austin this summer to take in one of their camps in June. I’m really excited about that and am looking forward to it. I’m ready to put myself on display and try to prove to them that I’m definitely worth the look.”
“I can’t lie, Texas is my favorite school,” he said. “They are the school for me for sure. If they offered I’d jump on board in a heartbeat, there’s no doubt about it. I’d jump right on it without thinking twice. No hesitation what so ever. I’d be 100 percent happy with my decision. I’ve always been a big Longhorn fan for as long as I can remember. They’ve just always been my team since I started watching football. I’ve never rooted for anyone else. They’re the best there is. It’s that simple.”
“I just love everything about Texas,” said Davis. “From their style of playing football, to their crazy fans, to their winning tradition. It just all goes together there and it’s great. Of course I also really like Mack Brown. He just seems like a great guy and a great coach. He’s definitely someone I’d love to play for if the opportunity was available and I hope it will become available one day soon.”

"It was fun (the unofficial to Oregon). I enjoyed it. The football aspect of it was top notch," Wilson said.
"I'll probably make my decision during the summer," Wilson said. "I'm thinking about taking a trip out to Ohio St. I don't know if I'm going to do it for sure, but I'm thinking about it."
"Texas, they have all the big backs but if I was to go to Texas I would have my own thing. Like Oregon does for De'Anthony Thomas, I could do that at Texas," Wilson said.

Quotes from 2014 CB Darrion Johnson of Brenham (24/7). He is another priority for next year and you'll be able to see why. Says he wants to get to Austin this Sunday:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvGnA1nnKNU
“Up to this point I’ve heard from a few different schools,” Johnson said. “It’s mostly been stuff from Texas and Texas A&M. I’ve had a chance to talk to them a little bit. That’s about it so far. Nothing has gotten too serious, yet.”
“I’d say right now my favorite schools are LSU, Texas and Texas A&M,” he explained. “Those are my top three anyway. I like them all.”
“They’ve (Texas) seen me up close when they came to check out (2012 Texas commits) Malcom (Brown) and Tim (Cole),” said Johnson. “I didn’t really get to talk to them long, I just sort of bumped into them. Coach (Oscar) Giles introduced himself and told me he was from Texas. We didn’t get to talk too much though.”
“Texas is a really good school,” he said. “I like their coaches a lot. They seem like great guys. I want to get to know them better for sure. They’ve done a great job of coaching up their defensive backs and making them great players. Plus, there are plenty of them playing in the NFL too, so they know what they’re doing for sure.”
“I also think a lot of Texas’ academics,” Johnson told Hookem.com. “They offer a great education, which is something that is very important to me. You can’t always play football forever, so you’re going to need something to fall back on. If football didn’t work out in the long run, I’d have that diploma as a backup. That goes a long way.”
“Texas does fit what I’m looking for in a school,” he explained, “which is great coaches who I get along with, a school that has great academics and just a school I feel comfortable at. I want to be somewhere that fits me.”
“Right now I’m hoping to go to Texas’ spring game,” said. “I want to go for sure. I’ll also be camping there when they do their summer camps, so I’ll at least get to visit then.”

Unless he visits on his own time before summer rolls around, the next opportunity to get him to Austin will be for the June summer camp. Some quotes from Swoopes, Warrick, Smythe and Oliver about working on the future passing game at the Nike NFTC this past weekend (24/7):
“I tried to call him out a little bit,” Oliver said of seeking out Swoopes' turn to throw in hopes of catching his passes. “The lines got kind of mixed up but I got to work with him quite a bit.”
“I was really impressed,” Smythe said. “He's known for running the ball and yet he's coming out here in an atmosphere where he's the MVP of the quarterbacks and he can't run it, then obviously he can throw. I'm real confident in his ability.”
"He's going to be good,” Oliver said. “I'm excited about his progression, what he's done, and the fact that he's getting better.”
“There's those question marks because he comes from a 2A school and people wonder how developed he is and things like that,” Smythe said. “If he comes out here with the best of the best and he's the MVP of the quarterbacks – he can work on some things but he's the best out here.”
“The reassurance of being on the offensive side,” Warrick said of why he picked Texas. “That played a big part.”
"Just get the ball in my hands and let me make plays after that,” Warrick said. “They've talked to me about kickoff return and maybe punt return.”
“He treats me right,” Oliver said of Wyatt. “I know on and off the field he'll be a good coach for me.”
“They're both (Oliver and Warrick) very good receivers,” Swoopes said. “I really enjoyed throwing to both of them. I'm just happy they'll be on my team.”
“When you look at what they (Texas) do, you definitely get to see what the coaches are talking about,” Smythe said. “They've got that guy like D.J. Grant who can work down the seam and then you've got a guy like M.J. McFarland who they can motion all over the place and do different things with. It's exciting to be in an offense where the tight end is such a key piece.”

I see LSU scooping those 2 up pretty soon.
Not a bad guess for the West Mesquite guys. I do think they prefer Texas and have said they'd like to wait for the coaching staff to come by their school during the spring eval period before making any premature moves, but it's hard to turn down an offer like that (especially when UT hasn't offered and might not at all). You can't expect blue-chippers like them to have extreme patience when offers are pouring in from everywhere and if they have the opportunity to attend a powerhouse football school together.
With the versatility that Warrick provides you, I'd like to see the staff go ahead and offer Massington no matter what Samples chooses to do. He's a different WR than any of the others already in the bag. I like Inside Texas' comparison that he's a M. Williams with hands. I'd also like to see the staff lock up Smith at CB and Miles/Baltimore at S. That gives you the freedom to chase the OOS studs (Bell/Harris/Luke) for as long as you'd like and it doesn't hurt as bad if you strike out.

I agree that it's difficult to pull any positive thoughts from this recruitment and I'm not exactly expecting him to choose UT, but I also don't think it's this impossible task because of who his recruiters are (Wyatt and Davis). I've learned not to doubt those two so I can't concede Manning right now even if that makes me naive. Hopefully it's true what people around him are saying that he's genuinely wide open, doesn't know what he wants and is in no hurry to make a decision. I like Texas' recruiting prowess more than any other school recruiting him if given the proper time. LSU will make things more difficult when/if they turn up the heat.

Quotes from S Vonn Bell (24/7):
“I talked to Coach (Mack) Brown today and he's really looking forward to me coming down there,” said Bell. “I’ll be heading down there this weekend. We'll be on the road Saturday and should arrive late that night probably. We'll stay through Sunday. I'll be watching their Orange-White scrimmage game so that will be real cool. I’m excited about it.”
“I want to check out the academic side of Texas,” Bell told Hookem.com. “That's extremely important to me to get a good education. I also want to see and meet the coaching staff, along with the players. I want to see what kind of vibe I get from them all and see how they all work together. I also want to get a good feel for the surroundings and see how the atmosphere really is around there. Everyone should be at the scrimmage game, so it should be a good one.”
“They have great tradition," he explained. "That really sticks out. A tradition of winning is big. Plus Coach Mack Brown is a great coach and I really like him. He seems like a great guy who would be good to play for. Besides him, they also have Coach (Duane) Akina, who's one of the best defensive backs coach in college football."
“His accomplishments really stand out to me," Bell said of Akina. "He's taken a whole bunch of players to the next level. He's coached them up where they can showcase their talents to the NFL and they get drafted and play. I see those results and I know that he knows what he's doing, there's no doubt. We're looking real forward to meeting him and getting to know him better."
"Being offered by Texas was surprising," Bell told Hookem.com. "Texas is just a big time college and that's a big time offer. On top of that, they don't really go outside of the state of Texas when recruiting. So when I got it, it meant a lot to me and my family. We were just thrilled about that offer."

More quotes from S Vonn Bell. Since he's currently on spring break, he plans on seeing several schools after Texas before returning to Georgia. The list includes Arkansas, OK State, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
“We’re just hoping to see the environment, meet the coaching staff, see the academics, get in the classroom and see how everything goes at these campuses,” Bell said.
“It will be a very quick visit but he was very excited,” Bell said, referring to Akina. “I got a chance to talk to coach Mack Brown also. They’re very excited about me coming up. I’m an out-of-state guy, so it’s a very big deal to them. We're excited to meet with the coaching staff.”
“I guess after this spring break, the big world tour as I call it, I’m going to try to trim the list and see how it goes,” Bell said.
“I told everybody I'd try to do it (make a commitment) before my senior year. At this time, when you have all those offers, you really have to get detailed with those colleges. You can't just make a quick decision,” Bell said. “You want to stay faithful to your word when you do commit. So it might carry into my senior season. I’m just going to play it out and see how it goes.”
“They have good tradition and everything. Coach Akina, he’s one of top DB coaches in football today,” Bell said. “I used to live in Dallas. My mom and them liked Austin. We didn't make it to UT games, but we made it to a couple Cowboys games. We know about the Longhorns."
“That really doesn't play a role. It's a business trip. I’m just waiting for the college that's good for me, that will make me feel at home and be the best situation for me.”
“My mom is a teacher. She's looking at things too. She’s big-time into education, talking grades first. That's probably her first question she’ll have for the head coach,” Bell said.

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas junior Marquise Goodwin, the current U.S. long jump champion, withdrew from the Texas Relays on Saturday with school officials citing an unspecified injury.
Track coach Bubba Thornton refused to provide details on the injury or when it happened, but noted he wanted Goodwin to get well in time for the Big 12 championships in May. The Olympic trials begin June 22.
Goodwin ran in the 100 meter preliminaries on Friday but had a poor race and did not make the final. He was supposed to compete in the 400 relay and the long jump on Saturday. Goodwin was pulled from the relay team and school officials announced he was out of the meet about an hour before the long jump started.
Goodwin was the NCAA champion in 2010.

That's a great get right there. Top 25 player in the nation on Rivals. I think OU will end up with a good class but the pieces are obviously going to fall into place at a much slower pace since they're taking a more national approach and not recruiting Texas nearly as hard as they used to.

No offers went out according to what's been reported. I kind of get the feeling Luke may have been offered on the hush as to not piss off the in-state DBs and keep them on the hook. Hard to imagine UT inviting an OOS, blue-chip DB to the spring game, giving him a high five and telling him they'll continue to evaluate.

Per 24/7 this afternoon, CB Cole Luke of Chandler, AZ said his UT visit went well but he was unsure if he had an offer at this point. I'm sure things will get cleared up as they usually do but I'm not jumping to conclusions since I think Akina wants to be discrete about an offer to Luke. Like I mentioned earlier, he may an offer in hand but Akina wants to keep it quiet as to not alienate the in-state DBs. Davis and Smith have tons of offers to choose from but it looks like they'll wait on UT to make a move before choosing to proceed with another school.

"It happened (the offer) at about 1:30 today at the end of lunch. I spoke with Duane Akina and Mack Brown. We spoke for a while and Akina said he'd like to offer. He sees me playing for them and I felt like I fit in perfectly."
"Mack Brown said he told Coach Akina that it's time to make a decision. I'm surprised at the time I've been waiting for it. Mack Brown joked that he put pressure on Coach Akina to get it done and to make it happen."
"They are still very high on my list. They have always been one of my favorite schools. They are one of my dream team offers, but I still want to go through the process of evaluating schools. I want to make sure that I make the right decision."
"My parents have spoken to most of my top schools and they approve of all of them. I feel like I'm close to a decision. I’m not saying its Texas, but I feel like I'm getting close."

"My head coach at wasn't at school today, so they called our offensive coordinator and told me to call Coach Giles. I called as I was walking to lunch and we talked."
"He said Duane Akina and Mack Brown talked this morning and wanted to offer and they let (Antwaun Davis and I) know we had an offer.”
"I'm very blessed to have this opportunity. I am very excited about it. Duane Akina explained why it has been a slow process. It feels great for both of us (Davis and Smith)."
"No, the reason why I didn’t commit is because I have made a couple of commitments to visit other colleges (Alabama and OK State). I talked to my parents and we already had those plans and it's important to stick to those commitments.”
"We've been waiting (on a UT offer), but it's not about our time, it's about Texas doing what they need to do first."
"I'm not saying they are number one, but they are a team that's up there for sure."
"I don't want to commit too early. These next two visits will help me solidify things after taking those trips. But, Texas explained to me that time is limited and that a decision has to be made somewhat soon. They are not pressuring me at all; they just explained that if I don't want to come there that they might have to look at offering other players."

I'm not sure which site reported the news first, but DT Vince Taylor received word today that he needed to get in touch with the UT coaching staff. He tried to do so earlier but was unable to get through and said he will try again tomorrow. Sounds like another offer could be on the way. If that does end up going down and knowing he'll likely commit on the spot, that would lead you to believe that DT Justin Manning has not been giving the staff positive feedback lately. Here are some recent quotes from Taylor after the spring game:
"It was pretty good," Taylor said of the visit to Texas. "They had a nice crowd. I got to see what the defense does and what kind of defense they run. They were mixing it up."
"Just to see how their defense gets to the ball and what kind of plays they run," he said. "That's what I wanted to see and it turned out pretty good."
"Right now it's Texas No. 1," Taylor said. "I've been talking to Baylor so they're up there, and Uo H and Vanderbilt have been on me pretty hard, so probably them too."
"Just knowing when I went to their junior day they showed me they were interested in me," he said. "I got a chance to talk to coach Mack Brown and he gave me a couple of words. I feel like if I did go there I'll have a better chance of playing, and I felt like I was at home when I went there."
"I just can't wait for spring ball to show the (Texas) coaches what I have," he said. "And show them what I've done in the weight room and that I'm ready for the next level."

Quotes from DE Torrodney Prevot (24/7):
“They got in touch with my coaches and invited me down to their spring game, but obviously I couldn’t make it in since I was at LSU this weekend too,” explained Prevot. “Then one of the Texas coaches, Coach (Oscar) Giles, shot me an e-mail yesterday telling me to get in touch with him and let’s see what’s up with me getting down there. I’m actually going to try and call him (Tuesday) to see if he can get that going.”
“My family really wants to go down there to Austin and check everything out with me,” Prevot told Hookem.com. “They want to see what Texas is about, too. Like I said, I’m going to call and set that up. I’m going to try and set that visit up for sometime soon, like over the next few weeks so we can visit, then we’ll go from there.”
“The LSU visit went pretty well,” Prevot said. “It was really busy, but pretty good. I liked it down there. There was a lot going on since it was their spring game and all. It made me sure of my decision of them being in one of my top spots.”
“I’d say right now, in no particular order or anything, my top schools would be LSU, Texas and Texas A&M,” Prevot said. “I’m not really sure about the others yet, but I’m still open. But at the moment anyway, I guess you could say it’s a race between them.”
“I’m pretty sure I have a game plan set as far as committing and all that stuff goes,” Prevot told Hookem.com. “After seeing everything I want to see and getting all the information on the schools, I’ll probably commit over the next few months. Summertime is what I’m thinking. I’ll check out Texas over the next few weeks, see the Texas A&M spring game, then it will be after that. Not too much longer at all really.”

"That's amazing. Playing in front of a big crowd is something I like," he said. "Really, every time I walk into that stadium, I get that feeling and think about that."
"We've (UT) got a good team this season. We have a chance to do good things this year. I can't wait to add onto that," Davis said. "When I was there, I really focused on my position and really tried to see what they do, how they do things.

"Coach Wyatt was talking to me about recruiting stuff, since he recruits my area. Coach Giles talked about the defensive ends and how they're recruiting me, how it's about education, things like that."
"Texas is definitely up there. They're probably around No. 1, but I'm so young I can't decide anything right now," Thomas said. "But they're definitely up there."
"I live in Texas. I like Texas, I really like the coaches, they made me feel comfortable how they're all about education," Thomas said. "They emphasize the student in student athlete. It's a great school and known to be a great program. It would be an honor to play there."
"Some of my strengths are trying to be physical, running to the ball, working hard on every play," Thomas said. "I have some things to improve on - speed, getting faster and definitely my pass rush. I need to work on everything really, but those are main things to be the best I can be."

Quotes from 2014 S Tony Brown of Beaumont Ozen after the UT spring game:
"The coaches actually knew who I was. Coach (Duane) Akina knew who I was right away, shook my hand and talked to me. Then the defensive coordinator shook my hand and talked to me," Brown said. "Some of the players I didn't know went to Texas play on the football team, like D.J. Monroe and Sheroid Evans. I also liked how aggressive the defensive coordinator is."
"With Texas, I grew up as a little kid, all through middle school I watched Texas. It was like a dream school," Brown said. "Then it's actually coming to life that I could actually have a chance to go to Texas. I'm just working hard, but that's amazing to me. There are going to be some hard decisions that I'll have to make my senior year."
"I saw Monroe on the back of the jersey, and my dad was like 'That's D.J.' I was like, 'Nah he didn't go to Texas.' I really lost touch with D.J. after he won state and went to college. I was probably in 5th or 6th grade at that time."
"They said they like my size. I'm bigger than a lot of their cornerbacks that they're recruiting," Brown said. "They watched some highlights and heard about me at the Nike training camp and said I have really nice feet, so that's good. They said I'm very young to be doing the stuff that I'm doing. Coach (Manny) Diaz, said I could be blitzing as a DB or from the corner for them."
"I set a goal my freshman year. I set out to be the number one recruit in the nation. I know to do that, I have to get exposure and compete well. I want to excel while I'm competing, show that I'm the best. That's the main reason I'm going to these combines, to see how I stack up," Brown said.
"My weakness is probably my aggressiveness. I try to play really aggressive. When I hit somebody, I have the intent so they don't get back up. My strong points are how I use my speed on the field, how I close in on tackles quickly," Brown said. "I think I have good ball instincts, read the quarterback's eyes, read how a wide receiver is lined up, things like that. I need to work on my aggressiveness and just keep a cool head all time."

Recent quotes from DT Justin Manning (24/7):
“I haven't talked to them (Texas) in a while, but I'm still interested,” Manning said. “I was supposed to go to the spring game but my ride fell through and I had some school stuff on Saturday and it all ended up to where I couldn't go.”
“I'd like to at some point (take an unofficial to Texas),” Manning said. “I haven't started looking at what I'll do this summer, but I hope I can make it down there.”
“They're on the comeback and that's good because they've been a traditionally winning program,” Manning said. “I know they've got some great players there and more on the way. I can see myself playing at a school like that.”
“Really all I was trying to say was that if they (Oklahoma) had offered me early before other schools got in the picture I'd have committed,” Manning said. “They're not out of it or anything. They've got a winning tradition and I still like them, it's just that now I'm willing to look at more schools.”
“There hasn't been that one school that's just jumped out at me,” Manning said. “I've been to some places and seen some good things, but there hasn't been that one school that makes me feel like I could just choose to go there right now.”
“I care about playing, but it's okay if there are great players in front of me and I have to redshirt,” Manning said. “I just want to win because I think it would be tough to go somewhere and work hard during the week knowing you're going to lose on Saturday.”

Quotes from 2014 RB Donald Catalon of Aldine Eisenhower (24/7):
“Spring football is coming up soon and I’m pumped about it,” Catalon said. “I’m real excited about that because I’m ready for some football for sure. I’m going to try and get over 2,000 yards this season, so it all starts here. I’m really planning on coming on strong."
“I think I did pretty good (at the Nike NFTC), but felt like I could have done better,” Catalon said. “I just want to build off that.”
”I’ve already heard from Texas and TCU some,” said Catalon. “They’ve asked my coaches about me and that type of stuff. I had a coach from Texas come check me out last spring. I can’t remember who he was, but he was watching me closely. As far as TCU, my cousin plays at there, so I guess he’s been telling them about me.”
“I’d say right now LSU is my number one,” Catalon said. “They’re definitely my favorite. I really want to hear more from them. I’m hoping they’ll like me. I also really like Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas and Alabama. I really like the way all of those guys play, especially LSU. I like how they play on both sides of the ball, it’s real impressive to me.”
"Like I said, I do like Texas,” he said. “They’re a great program. I actually went to Texas’ summer camp last year and was real impressed. Everything was real cool down there and the facilities are very nice. Plus the coaches seem like great people who are easy to get along with. They’re very friendly, but at the same time, can coach you up.”
“I look at them (Texas) and see a lot of top athletes,” said Catalon. “They always have the best of the best, so it’s going to be hard to play over there, or at least that’s what I hear. Getting to play is obviously big for me, so I’m looking at their depth chart and I see it’s stacked.”
“We’ll see what happens,” Catalon said. “I’ll just have to keep an eye on them.”

Two random notes from 24/7:
**CB Maurice Smith is scheduled to visit Alabama this weekend.
**Texas is still talking with DT Joey Bosa of Fort Lauderdale, FL. They continue to tell him that he'll need to visit Austin before receiving an offer and he may show up on campus this summer.

Quotes from S Vonn Bell on UT:
"Everybody is family there. Everybody has each other's back 100 percent. Coach (Duane) Akina, coach Mack Brown - Akina really stood out to me," Bell said. "He really cares about his players, wants them to stand out on the field and off the field, get his degree."
"He had his wife into it, his kids into it. That's really a big part of my decision, how a school is family oriented and how everybody is into it."
"I'm really looking into more than just football. It's more the people, how they act," Bell said. "It's the next four or five years so I want to see who I'd be with and who would be taking care of things."
"All of the schools are trying to get the best of the best. They haven't talked to me about (their timeline), but they want the best people in the nation. Texas doesn't go out of state often, so it means a lot when they do go out of state for a player," Bell said.

Ketch's take on the status of the 2013 class...
-----
The rest of the 2013 class isn't rocket science?
The Longhorns are sitting at 13 commitments (I'm not counting Naashon Hughes as a grayshirt until we know for sure that he'll need to do so) and currently have offers out to six in-state prospects, along with a smattering of out of state guys.
The best case scenario would likely have them taking another running back, another receiver, a defensive tackle, a defensive end, a couple of defensive backs and maybe another tight end. If you take the tight end, along with the other targets, you're sitting at 20 scholarships and counting on some attrition to get you there.
The current in-state offers: DeSoto running back Dontre Wilson, Dallas Skyline wide receiver Ra'Shaad Samples, Alief Taylor defensive end Torrodney Prevot, Dallas Kimball defensive tackle Justin Manning, Bastrop cornerback Antwuan Davis and Sugar Land Dulles cornerback Maurice Smith.
Forget about the out of state kids right now because those guys are the gravy to this group's dinner. If they landed all six in-state guys, the commitment list would stand at 19 and they'd simply cherry-pick a five-star type prospect or two if they are available, otherwise they can shut it down and save whatever scholarships they can for the loaded 2014 class.
Of the six mentioned, I think they will likely land both Davis and Smith before May 1. The expectation was that Samples would have committed already, but if something happens and they don't land him, they could probably have a commitment from an equal prospect in Eldridge Massington. The Longhorns remain a very strong candidate for Wilson and I think the smart money still has to be on them.
Also, if the Longhorns missed on the remaining offensive skill offers, they could choose to save those scholarships if they wanted because of the players already secured in this class at both running back and wide receiver.
So, what we're talking about is a defensive tackle and a pass rusher.
Manning isn't likely going to happen and Prevot is anyone's guess at this point. Therefore, if the Longhorns are going to look nationally or into the JUCO ranks for anything, it would be at these two positions. Of course, Quincy Russell and Vincent Taylor also loom as possible interior line prospects.
If Akina can land a War Daddy or a big-time national tight end emerges as a candidate, then the Longhorns will likely make room, but without unknown game-changers taken into consideration, this is the plan.
I'm not sure we'll have many remaining questions by the end of May.

Any updates on Pollard?
Anything I've read about him is about Georgetown or Alabama.
Cameron Ridley will sign tomorrow though.
Sterling Gibbs is transfering away
Jordan Clarkson, currently playing for Tulsa, might transfer here but he would have to sit out a year.
Demarcus Holland, teammate of Ibeh, committed to Texas. Underwhelming pickup but okay with Gibbs leaving.
