Well, if West is talking contender only, he's probably looking at POR, PHX, TOR, LAL, NY, HOU, DAL, SA

I don't get it. Why'd you list the teams that Aldridge interviewed. It's late, maybe i forgot aldridge saying same thing? but im sure he would look at more than just GS and SA.

When I get nervous about all this LMA shit, I go check Lakersground... now THAT's misery :lol

If Spurs get Aldridge, should all Laker players and Byron starts crying "Shady Trade" and "Cronyism" b/c they forced unloaded Tiago Splitter to a team that doesnt need another big? Where a certain Popovich protege, ex-employee Budenholzer, happens to reside?

I like the Spurs FO but their incessant whining and bitching after Pau trade was low class (bleep). Popovich was crying cronyism b/c of the Jerry West connection. So did every Spurs fan I ever met. "Oh you only got those last 2 'ships b/c West hooked up the Lakers illegally."

Exactly why i loathe all these hypocrite a-holes. I look forward to the day where our guys develop and we seam roll all these mother effers

However, it's already been confirmed from insides sources within the Aldridge camp that he's 100% Spur. Deal was pretty much in place prior to the dumping of Splitter. Also said that Aldridge has already purchased a home in San Antonio.

My (admittedly sad) life the last two days between LMA and Manu retirement watch.

Sometimes we can look at history as a harbinger of things to come. When LaMarcus was entering his freshman year of high school in the Dallas area back in 2000, Dirk Nowitzki had just completed his 2nd year in the league and was becoming an emerging star. Also at this time, there was a prize free agent at another Texas franchise further south. This free agent played the field and took his time coming to a decision. He toyed with the idea of joining the Orlando Magic, forming something along the lines of the Big Three we saw in Miami recently. Instead, he chose to stay at home and return to San Antonio. The key is, he didn't rush a decision. LaMarcus admires Duncan and is doing the same.

Great point.

And dare I say, could LaMarcus be waiting for Manu's decision before making his own?

Still, I think at this point Pop has probably brainwashed Splitter to the point that he's happy to do his part to get Aldridge to SA.

If the Spurs land Aldridge, putting all the last off-seasons together could be called "poetry in motion" as well. And as with George Hill it is good to see Splitter getting traded in a somewhat familiar environment.

Uriel

[Aldridge] was impressed by the Spurs' plan, which outlined how the franchise would be built around him and 24-year-old Kawhi Leonard, driven forward by the need for another championship to send off Tim Duncan with a sixth ring.

And yet the Spurs had a touch of old school in them, clearly trickling down from no-nonsense Coach Gregg Popovich, who seemed perfectly fine with not getting the first meeting with Aldridge.

The Lakers were with him until about 11 p.m. Tuesday, the Spurs taking their turn Wednesday morning in Los Angeles.

“I'm not calling anyone at midnight,” Popovich told the San Antonio Express-News on Monday. “I'll be in bed. And if that's the difference in someone coming or not coming, then I don't want them.”

People would have just shit if Draymond had pulled a Stephen Jackson, because he didn't get enough love. Just for laughs, can you imagine what having Danny, Kawhi, Draymond, and Tim on the floor could do to offenses around the league? You think they could have played defense enough to finally please Pop?

To be fair, those reports indicated that Green had only shut off contract talks to hear what others had to offer, but that he was still committed to signing with Golden State.

Project Spurs reports Mills was in the meeting with LMA:

http://projectspurs.com/2015-articles/report-mills-was-part-of-spurs-meeting-with-aldridge.html

If true, then:

1) It seems much much less likely that Patty will be shipped out to fit LMA's salary.
2) Timvp will need to update his meeting transcript with everyone forcing Patty to say "throw another one on the barbie"

Were Patty and LaMarcus particularly close during their time in Portland?

As I mentioned before this is a move by LMA to not burn his bridges. One of these teams that he is visiting may very well be the team to give him a bigger contract if he bolts SA in two years (if he signs). So it's in his best interest to be courteous but I feel the FO has a firm commitment from him hence all there moves. The Monroe name drop(and so called great meetings) is all smoke and mirrors imo, LMA will be a spur.

Aldridge not going back to Portland per Blazers assistant coach.

http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2015/07/trail_blazers_assistant_coach_kim_hughes_says_lama .html

I mean, I know it says Hughes is a big man coach, but how credible is this person? Any major story you would think would spread like wildfire, but this hasn't even gained steam at all. If POR is gone, LMA is a Spur.

One thing I was thinking about: Before this all started, many people felt that SA (if using cap space) would have very limited ability to keep Mills &/or Danny Green.

But with a committment from Green already (known variable) plus the ability to retain Mills (looks good, not for sure) that already gives the Spurs more depth than anyone could have imagined if they get LMA. Then you factor in the Room Exception and the very large 8.5M Trade Exception from the Tiago trade and they have so many more assets and tools to build out a roster.

That's great news. Down to us and PHX now I guess....

However; I'm not buying the LMA to PHX stuff. The only reason I even give it even a chance is because WOJ said it.

One of the reasons Woj gets scoops and all of his insider info is because he does favors for teams when it doesn't hurt his credibility; runs positive stories, etc - that he later can cash in for access. Phoenix does not make sense from either a basketball, or monetary situation; it only serves to build up that franchise/or an agent related to recent deals with them. Could Woj's "Neck and Neck" tweet be a favor he extended for future access/scoops? After all, it is not a "this is happening" tweet - it is a "this could go either way" tweet.

I really think people are overlooking the fact that Brevin Knight and Aldridge share the same agent.

I don't think there's a shot in hell that LA goes to Phoenix. I think this is a case of an agent having a star in Aldridge give some credibility to Phoenix in the free agent market by showing interest there to help his guy Knight out.

Aldridge says it's between Phoenix and SA, comes to SA, while Phoenix gets the PR boost to get another piece for Knight and his team.

Spurs fans shouldn't be sweating this news.

I doubt it's that empty. Phoenix hasn't been great, but their pitch was based around how Aldridge would immediately be the face of the franchise. No other team can offer him that, besides Knicks, but let's be serious. Anyhow, the allure of that idea will fade, and he'll go where he can truly contend (ie: Spurs, Rockets).

That sweep was only consolation. Basically, the Suns were primed to be raped again, but the Spurs just got sick of trying to fuck the same piece of ass again and couldn't get it up. Realistic Aldridge, like any of us, would want a nights sleep to soak it all in, and thoughtfully make his decision. I expect something this evening, prior to the holidays this weekend. Praying its the Spurs and per below, I'm taking the approach that it will be.

Probably already discussed, but assuming Aldridge will don the #23 jersey of the Spurs. Wore #23 at Texas. At Portland switched to #12 as I believe Darius Miles had #23 at that time, plus believe he wore #12 in high school. Obviously #12 is retired here. Don't believe anyone on Spurs has #23 now. Now just need some of the photoshop folks out there to create the "Aldridge in #23 Spurs jersey" as prep to the announcement (again, maybe the pic is already out there and I just haven't seen).

Hook'em and come home to south Texas LaMarcus.

Makes sense for Monroe, with the cap going to eleventy billion next year want to be in a position to get a new max deal in the prime of his career while still getting a significant amount guaranteed today. Left some money on table.

Makes sense for Bucks, if Monroe busts, don't end up with one of those longer term deals at $20MM per weighing down your cap for years. Of course, getting a player to Milwaukee is not easy so you do risk losing him in the near term.

Hmmmmm. Hear on radio today LA does not want to play center at all and that's a big factor. Imagine Pop calling Atlanta and telling them to throw them Tavares.

My favorite tweet of the free agent season, so far: #Knicks left a positive impression on Robin Lopez after their meeting last nite. "Interest is mutual, that's for sure," source says.

Sort of like courting the ugly girl that works at 7-11 and hoping she'll notice you.

This sort of piggy-backs the point I was making. Monroe was probably waiting to see about LMA to POR. With LMA, Monroe probably saw Lillard/Monroe/LMA as a good fit and possible playoff team, but no LMA, no deal.

As Mills was a member of the LMA presentation group, I am certain they plan (and know) how to keep him. They wouldn't bring someone in to woo a free agent if that person is going to be gone. RC and Pop have this figured out.

It seems like the Suns did precisely that.

well Lamar is turning 31 soon. He's no spring chicken.

If he wants to win NOW, SPurs would be best bet. Although the negative part is that if Duncan, Manu retire next year, we'd pretty much be in the same boat as Phoenix.

IMO what's hurting Spurs the most is that Duncan has 1 foot out the door.

He could probably only be a part of the deal if the Spurs missed out on LMA. I don't see how his signing a deal would change that in any way.

Suns can't even get a contract signed because they don't have the space. So basically they have to get a commitment from Alderidge and then salary dump half their team. And under one of two scenarios, they can only trade with Portland and Dallas. Seems like at lot of obstacles that need to happen. And if they fall through, the other suitors may have already moved onto plan B. I'm just assuming Aldridge goes to the best team that has cleared a path already.

Chandler may have less useful years left in him than Duncan. Which is saying a lot considering Duncan's age.

Don't get me wrong, Chandler is a good post defender / rebounder / pick & roll guy attacking the basket. But he's not going to help floor spacing and half the allure to Aldridge's game is ability to go high or low.

Regarding Tavares...I don't imagine he'd come cheap. If Atlanta goes with 4 bigs hor, split, millsp, Tavares, who starts?

Just trying to read the tea leaves, Tavares as plan C is fair if we get the right pieces. I imagine both Atlanta and S.A. Are good spots up induce Tavares to come over. The timing isn't really suspicious either way. The contract amount is, though.
