Transcript from Aldridge's "The Decision" aired on ESPN tonight hosted by LeBron James.
LeBron: So LaMarcus have you made your decision?
Aldridge: Yes, I have decided to sign with Phoenix.
LeBron: So not Cleveland for the vet min, I need more help.
Aldridge: Nope, the Suns, I get to play alongside Tyson Chandler.
LeBron: Oh, not the Spurs man?
Aldridge: Nope
LeBron: Hey, I got no problem with that.
Just kidding!

Post itheres 1 "Im betting that Cyberx is staying away for the good of Houston. Having a leak could potentially jeopardize the Aldridge deal or any other smaller deals for that matter. " "Or LMA really wants Houston. SAS = GSW and PHX = ATL from the Dwight situation. SAS is the media favorite for LMA just as LAL and GSW were favorites for Dwight. And PHX is the randI'm favorite like the Hawks were at the time, other than being Dwight's hometown team.
A poster said earlier that LMA and Morey already had a deal in place. LMA is making Houston's competitors like SAS get weake a la trading Splitter for peanuts and letting Bynes and Marco go for nothing. "
"I think Portland suspects HOu is target and is trying to call LMA's bluff. Hence absolutely No discussions or leaks to anyone about HOU even though common sense makes them at least one of the top 2 destinations. We're only a long shot bc we don't have cap space, and if HOU created cap space they would have made themselves less desirable to LMA and might have been boshed. I think this is about making ourselves available for the sign and trade in case LMA says yes but minimizing the assets. Keep in mind that if LMA wants to do Olshey a solid, he would prefer to give some assets to Portland on the way out. That's Houston, because now that the Spurs have lost splitter, Baynes and Marco, they don't have any assets left to trade.
So call me a dreamer, but I'm putting my bet on LMA in a sign and trade.
I wonder if doc rockets SA guy thinks SA fears the rockets coming in with a sign and trade. Why else would Pop have to see LMA twice? Theyre afraid of someone and its NOT the Suns. They realized they exposed themselves. "

Oh believe me I know a fan as well, beyond a homer. He thinks they were cheated in the GS series and refs decided a game or two even though they got beat by 45 at home in game 3. He also thinks Lowry is a top 5 PG (Only because he played there of course) and should have been an all star in 011 or 012 over Kidd.... He also claims that Von Wafer was sick and pointed out a few good games he had, although he never averaged 10 PPG in his career. He said he never got the chance. They are idiots at times man.

Not when you have met with multiple teams over a three day period in this fashion. And also called in teams to give follow-up meetings and dinners. this has dragged on too long with too many different moving parts and/or teams to now say "nah....I'm going back to my orig team".
Aldridge didn't call anyone for 2nd meetings. They called him.

I can't remember what year I became a Spurs fan. It was either '92-'93 or '93-'94. I just remember seeing my first ever Spurs game on TV here and it was Spurs Vs Orlando and both David and Shaq I think had 40+ points each that game. I really liked the Admiral's performance in that game, and I just seemed to like him in general based off of that one game, so I've been a Spurs fan since.

D Rob is what made me a fan as well, drew me to the team. I also liked Elliott alot so I became a die hard fan around that time. D Rob though was my fave player.

LaMarcus is a very good player who lost a power struggle / popularity contest with DL to be the face of the franchise, and it meant enough for him to leave and leave a lot of money on the table. That is the one consistent whisper in the sea of rumors. If so, then being in Timmy's shadow for a few more years (and in fact forever) and sharing the franchise leadership with the up and coming Leonard (even quiet and unassuming as he is) doesn't really solve the issue he wants solved. The Suns sensed that and jumped on it with promises of LMA 'being the man" and being basketball savior to the city. It has put them in the game, when by all other measures, they shouldn't be.

He set it up. And I wouldn't think it was good, but there's two reasons why it is..
1. Lamarcus' camp said he was done with meetings, but still agreed to this one.

It was unacceptable failure, failure for no reason with Pop fucking up the season in so many ways, saying what you saying is just a homer trying to deny the size of the failure and to reduce blame from Pop... You can call it dumb and idiotic but i see things in bigger perspective and know that in life there are implications for anything, to lose in so underachiever way bring more bad than other way...
You want a championship every year. It doesn't work like that. So in short, your delusions cloud your view to the point that you have a Chicken Little reaction to things which is idiotic.

This. I think it's really this simple....

Excellent take. The Suns are so desperate that they think want a guy that they have to treat that way, and the Spurs are starting to look at each other, wondering if they might be better off if he chose Phoenix. There will be other free agents, there will be other offseasons.

I watched Game 4 of the 2014 Finals last night ... it was the game van Gundy raved about the Spurs player behaviour ... everybody accountable because the stars in the team let themselves be treated by Pop as everybody else on the team. Getting role players buying into that was rather easy over the years ... but to get a superstar via Free Agency who will buy into it and himself be a role model taking Pops rage sometimes ... well, you have to be a strong character and I do not know if LMA has that quality.
Still ... I want LMA on our team because it would be nice change. Anything the Spurs do this offseason - I have my doubts we will win a championship because many new players will need to adapt. Until this happens, Duncan will be gone. Again, I want LMA because the Spurs would still be a factor and able to have memorable games and playoff series-

Which is exactly the point I made after day 1 when he didn't choose sa outright. He either lied about why he wanted to leave or he's an idiot. Either way, it's clear that winning is not his priority. Now you have an ego issue with him and have to baby him. Thanks but no thanks. Why deal with that. Should have publicly disengaged so the rest of the nba knows that spurs don't tolerate that shit. Would have been a stinger message then being in our current position enabling pussy behavior

The guy should have announced that he is signing with the Spurs after the second Pop meeting. But the fact that he is waiting and can't decide between the Suns and the Spurs tells me he's scared of the pressure of being the main guy after Tim leaves or he just doesn't like team basketball and doesn't like sharing the ball that much. He already bitched about Lillard having the ball too much so i can't imagine what would happen here where everyone has the ball when Parker is not a selfish prick. With the Suns at least he'd have the ball all the time and could probably shoot stupid shots all the time. All i know is that this decision of his is taking too much time. Lol @ his winning talk and then deciding between the best sports team in the last 15 years and the losers from Phoenix.

I think if it were that simple, he'd be a Sun now, or a Maverick. While I definitely think Lillard being the face of the franchise has a lot to do with it, it's also because he's the face of a franchise that hasn't done anything in years. It's insulting for Lillard to get anointed (in addition to getting a much bigger contract) after LMA put in a decade of service. Damien is being far overhyped as a player and especially as a potential franchise cornerstone. Tim is a GOAT candidate, and Leonard has a fMVP and DPOY. Parker and Manu are future HoFers. It's much easier to be a JAG when that's the team you're on rather than losing out to a guy who's coming off two overrated playoff series in a row.
I think the way the Blazers have been beaten down the last two post-seasons has more to do with Aldridge leaving than Lillard outshining him does. That team was moribund even before they let so many guys walk. Even the Suns were in a better position than they were.

Let's put it this way: If Bowen didn't already have his number retired, it never would have been. Watching Kawhi and Danny eat teams alive really taints Bowen's accomplishments to anyone objective.
Face of franchise argument loses some weight in that:
1.) Lillard is one of the worst defenders in the league yet still got superstar treatment over LMA
2.) Even though it might be Tim's team, or Kawhi's, everyone gives it everything and supports others success (see entire team holding up the KLaw after Game 5 2014).
3.) Even if Suns promise franchise player status to him, what's to say he won't be supplanted by a guy like Knight?
4.) Suns loyalty? Look at how they treated Dragic.

He's leaving Portland for the simple reason that they did not get anywhere in the last two years. This was the best Portland team in a very long time.
Then you look at last season and you see equally good teams like Grizzlies, Rockets and Clippers just not even make the finals. You see very good teams like the Spurs and the Thunder fail because of injuries. Then you realize... it takes a lot more than money and good players to win it all.
Everything had to come together for the Warriors to win. (1) Depleted Cavs team. (2) Injuries to top PG defenders in all teams they faced. (3) Not facing an injury free Spurs in the playoffs. I can say the same thing about the Spurs.... avoiding Thunder and injuries to that team.
Now for the upcoming season, the Spurs still have to worry about 3 teams.... the Champs, Thunder and Rockets. The last two teams have big front lines.

Bowen was a key to a few of their runs from harassing Kobe in 03 to Billups the last few games in 05 etc., lets not forget his work in the Suns series back then as well when he would cut off Nash. I guess its easy to forget now? He also harassed Bron in those finals, he was a huge key to 3 titles on that D end and hit some timely threes. One of the originsl 3D players.

Yep. If he really wanted to be here, he would already be here. He knows the Spurs organization, and he knows they give him the best chance of winning it all, out of any of the teams that can pay him. He should have made the decision soon enough to allow the Spurs to take a shot at a couple more players to play with him. He's looking for a way to convince himself to go to a bigger market.
If he isn't committed here, fuck him When the Spurs beat his new team, he can go home and watch himself in a commercial.

Rather, I think it's easy to look back at those things and overrate them. Bowen didn't really slow guys down as much as people remember he did. Most guys hit their average against him, but they "had to work hard for it". That was what people thought good defense was back then. Nowadays, it's very possible to pretty much shut down almost every player (prime Lebron being the exception because he's the best basketball player who's ever lived). The standards are completely different now, and in that light, Bowen just wasn't as impressive as people recall him being. Either Green or Leonard on the team during that span would have made the Spurs a better team.

It's not that standards have changed, that's ludicrous. It's that there are few superior shooting guards in the league right now.

Leonard and Green are great but Bowen would allow players their average ppg on more shots attempted and frustrated the hell out of them doing it. I remember 05 Finals when Pop rotated him over to Billups and he shot very poorly, that might have saved the title along with Horry. Bowen was very good in his day.

At the end of the day, Pop is a process guy and as long as LMA is working through a process, Pop can probably respect that and is willing to provide information to assist in that process. The process is wearing on panicky Spurs fans, but it hasn't actually been unreasonably long at this point, given what's at stake for the player. My guess is that Pop wanted another meeting to see where the process stands and to see if he could help, with an extra opportunity to pitch LMA.
From what I understand of Pop, it's equally likely that they talked about Soviet military strategies in Eastern Europe during the Cold War and about some biography that nobody other than Pop and the author have read.

It shouldn't be about being "the man" (the irony), deep down he wants to be responsible for his team's success, and I think there is a lot of room for that in San Antonio. Winning cures all, and Spurs tend to win a lot.
Having said all this, if it's true that this is where his head is at and he chooses Suns because of it, we are better off without him long term.
I still have high hopes that he sees the Spurs organization with their class and winning reputation and understands that the sacrifice of his ego is worth it for true success and happiness.

Dude, you're either just flat wrong or have only lived in shitty places. Anyway, the point stands, the racism and crass stupidity on this board didn't exist before and reflects very badly on the Spurs and most Spurs fans in general.
Not sure what you're getting at. Racism is alive and well in the USA. People aren't as open about it as they used to be in public but people reveal their true selves online.
As I said, racism is not a Spurs fan problem. If other sites were as lax in moderation as ST you would see plenty of racism as well. By the way you should try visiting other nba sites, you'll be missing st in no time. Good luck posting any sort of criticism without getting banned.

Whatever source(s) he may have regarding Aldridge appear to tied to the Suns.

If LMA farts and Woj tweets about it, this bitch will hit 300 by lunch.
Whose lunch? PT or CT?

Pretty vague tweet, but still

Hibbert is such a piece of shit, I'd rather start Bonner. The Spurs can't afford to pull out of the LMA sweepstakes right now. If he goes back to Portland oh well, it's a chance the Spurs are forced to take now with no other good options out there.
TIMVP was talking yesterday about how immobile Hibbert is, and I try not to disagree with him too often. But I remember Hibbert at Georgetown, and in his first couple of years in the NBA. He was no speedier than most giant-sized guys, but I don't think he was any slower.
He's pretty much quit on the Pacers, and that's hard to respect. But I've seen guys get charged up when they landed with a new team that appreciated them. He's a risk, but if Pop is still interested in playing defense (and you know he is), Hibbert could be pretty good at that.
Would he bring the effort? I don't think Pop would give him the chance, anyway. A guy who quit on the floor probably doesn't get a second chance in SA.

What I took from the body language was Pop was happy knowing LA is coming and the other dude was calling West telling him to come aboard.

Yeah all of his Aldridge coverage has been Suns-focused.

Pop does not allow them to be seen outside after lunch together if not a very positive lunch with high likelihood of positive outcome. Having whole coaching staff there to go through where LMA fits into scheme is a smart move too.
But we'll see, maybe a sports writer for HuffPo will beat out Woj, Stein, TSpence and everyone else.

Very vague but at the same time, the fact that he had another meeting with Pop and wasn't immediately sold tells me he is searching for reasons to pick the Suns. If he chooses Suns because he doesn't want to play center and can be "the man"...guy is worth losing.

And the beauty of Hibbert's contract is that it is the final year of it. So if Hibbert doesn't bring it, he's gone.

I think they coaches were more because they played with LMA since the one guy was Marks, not Messina. Kinda like the guy Phoenix used.

OK, just sign with the Suns then so this can all end already. At least I can laugh then.

If the Spurs trade for Hibbert to play center I'm leaving Spurstalk forever.

Michael Finley made the right decision to pass on the Suns to play with the Spurs in 05. Make the same smart decision Aldridge, and win a ring like Finley did!
