The new CBA doesn't allow the fifth year in sign and trades, just the 7.5% raises instead of 4.5%.

Bringing in a player who just signed the same day does not sound like a good pitching method. Like, what the hell is Tyson going to say? He had no inside knowledge on how the Suns operate before today.

"I don't know how this is going to fucking work, but you can look at my YouTube videos and just imagine how it'll be with us together. Also, forget that the team's depth consists of middling young talent."

Suns sign Brandon Knight and Chandler, AND have enough for a max deal with LMA? How much cap space do they have?

Phoenix has about $6 million to $8 million left after signing Chandler, using the same cap hold idea with Knight that the Spurs are using with Green and Leonard. The only way they can sign Aldridge is after a salary dump of Bledsoe, as the Blazers aren't likely to want Bledsoe in a sign and trade with Lillard already there. Maybe they could work a three team deal, but as of now Phoenix can't offer him anything close to a max deal before salary dumping Bledsoe.

SpursFan86

Houston or us are the only ones that make sense if he's set on leaving Portland. If he's really intent on winning a title, he'd be stupid to choose somewhere else.

Houston would have to clear out basically everyone besides Harden/Dwight to make room, but that would be one hell of a big 3.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/suns/2015/07/01/tyson-chandler-agrees--contract--suns/29577401/

According to a person with knowledge of the situation, Chandler attended the Suns' meeting with the former Portland Trailblazers big man in Los Angeles. The unexpected development, according to the person, certainly peaked Aldridge's interest and may have improved the chances of a team that was otherwise seen as a darkhorse to land him. The Suns agreed to terms with point guard Brandon Knight on a five-year, $70 million deal not long before their meeting with Aldridge as well.

The Suns don't have the salary cap space to sign Aldridge to anywhere near the maximum salary contract he's expecting, meaning general manager Ryan McDonough would certainly have to make moves to bring him board. That approach could certainly involve point guard Eric Bledsoe, who agreed to a five-year, $70 million extension in September but is seen as available by rival executives.

Cavs somehow getting Bledsoe and LMA going to the Suns would be such a shitty turn of events :lol

Suns would have to decimate their team to get Aldridge. TBH, Cavs have Irving. They aren't going to spend $70 million on a back up point guard. Back to Suns. Chandler isn't really that great. Obviously, he wasn't good enough to make a difference for Dallas in the first round. He's inferior to Duncan. I just don't see why NBA writers treat him like he is a superstar. He's a good defensive center that is probably the 4th best player on a championship team.

A near-term decision would be helpful, but with the cap space situation worked out and Green back in the fold, the Spurs can be a bit more patient with this, I think.

It's likely those things were always going to work out and the Spurs would be able to just wait for the time that Aldridge needs, but all is not lost now if he takes a couple of days and then chooses to go elsewhere.

BTW, any word that the Spurs have a time frame on this? I think I'd rather just go get someone else instead of letting LA bask in this attention while the other free agents are snatched up.

Someone tweeted right now that there were no current Hawks sent back to the Spurs. That's really all I've seen.

Damn. I wish Spurs could trade Parker for no one.

This could take a while to find out his decision so I'm looking for something to read while I wait. Does anybody know if this a good book?

Walter Tavares (7'2" center, insane length as well) is an interesting prospect...I don't think he's NBA ready at this point though.

He's a really smart pick and roll player though. I think he grew another inch too.

I mean, if the Spurs lose Aldridge to the Suns, he never planned to come to S.A. anyway.

I feel that way about all of his options outside of POR/HOU/DAL. But less with Dallas because their roster is in such flux right now.

But POR I understand. They haven't been world beaters and are likely losing Batum and Wes, but he loved his time there and had some success. Plus more money.

HOU has a squad and even if they need to gut it to get him, Harden/Dwight/LMA is a monster.

No one else makes sense because they aren't in TX, cant offer more money or a better chance to win. If he chooses someone like PHX/NY he never was serious about SA.

Dealing Splitter only makes sense if something is lined up, ie Monroe, as in he agreed to offer contingent on Spurs not signing Aldridge. Of course, if you had deal lined up with Hawks, why not wait until you get commitment from one of your targets before accepting?
Yeah. SUns and Rockets both went into meetings with little cap space and needing to shed a significant amount to get LMA. We probably could have waited a bit.

You'd have to think it's either Spurs or just take the money in Portland.

What's weird is that Lakers reporter saying the Lakers had a 50/50 chance. Was that a random guess? Wonder if that figure has any real significance.

I saw that, but I just assumed it's LA egomania. If someone actually said that, then yeah he never had any intention of going to San Antonio. It's an awfully elaborate ruse for the brother to sell his house, though.

Marc Stein just reiterated on SportsCenter that it the Spurs are still in the lead and that they made a real big impression on LMA.

50/50 chance of being considered seriously.

Glass half-empty: pushing Portland or other more desired destination to do what he wants.

More negative: why go through all this if you know you want to move? It was some time ago but let's recall that TD had all but moved to Orlando and next door to Tiger Woods before re-signing.

Esp now that Love agreed to stay with Cleveland...& the reason why they passed on J. Okafor...LA's confidence is higher I think
