Senator Elizabeth Warren took her turn publicly musing about the incident yesterday when she tweeted (http://www.mediaite.com/online/warren-coward-trump-makes-death-threats-because-hes-angry-hes-losing-to-a-girl/) about Trump not being happy “losing to a girl,” and
that really set Melissa Francis off.
Seriously, even though Warren has been really vocal through this entire election, it was these two little tweets that made Francis furious.
She repeatedly asked why Warren was allowed to tweet something like that, ( :lol maybe allowed by 1st Amendment? :lol )

A US Secret Service official confirms to CNN that the USSS has spoken to the Trump campaign regarding his Second Amendment comments.
"There has been more than one conversation" on the topic, the official told CNN.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/10/politics/trump-second-amendment/
The U.S. Secret Service reached out to the Donald Trump campaign over comments he made at a rally Tuesday about “Second Amendment people,” according to a report on CNN (https://twitter.com/CNNSitRoom/status/763447021676015616).
The agency would neither confirm nor deny the report to TIME.
“Those statements did not come from our public affairs office,” said Joseph Casey, a spokesperson for the Secret Service. He added he could not confirm the Secret Service reached out to the Trump campaign

Trump’s Excuse For Not Releasing His Tax Returns Might Be Even More Bogus That We Thought
To back up the contention that he is being audited,Trump’s campaign earlier this year released a letter from his tax lawyers (http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-03-31/trump-s-tax-lawyers-say-2002-2008-returns-no-longer-under-audit) stating that he was under audit.
That leaves the public having to take the word of Trump’s paid legal advocates.
There’s a more definitive option: The real estate developer could very easily produce documentation from the Internal Revenue Service stating that he is under audit.

Hannity Mainstreams a Very Silly Response to Trump’s Bad Poll Numbers
“Social Media Patterns Show Trump Is Looking at a Landslide Victory.” (http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/08/evidence-trump-landslide/)
Evidence from ‘The Truth Division’ shows that if you look at social media, Trump is killing Hillary!
Facebook
Trump: 10,174,358 Likes Clinton: 5,385,959 Likes
Trump has nearly double the amount of ‘Likes’ that Clinton has!
Twitter
Trump: 10.6 million followers
Hillary: 8.1 million followers
Trump has 30% more Twitter followers — and they translate into real votes. A recent study confirmed that 70% of his followers are real supporters, and 90% of those real followers have a voting history.
Who knows if Hillary followers are even real?
And Hannity went right ahead and said, “Analysis from the two candidates’ social media accounts could mean Donald Trump would win in a landslide.”
He listed off the social media stats for both and said on his website (http://www.hannity.com/articles/election-493995/heres-why-trump-supporters-shouldnt-be-14991957/), “Don’t let the polls discourage you.”
So we’ve gone from THE POLLS ARE RIGGED to FORGET THE POLLS to FACEBOOK LIKES MEANS HILLARY LOSES.

Ann Kirkpatrick's new ad reminds you how many times John McCain is willing to lick Trump's boots (http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/8/10/1558786/-Ann-Kirkpatrick-s-new-ad-reminds-you-just-many-times-John-McCain-is-willing-to-lick-Trump-s-boots)
How much support would you lend to someone who demeaned your service to your country? How about someone who accused you of mistreating veterans? How many times would you let someone attack the very core of who you are, and still pop up to ask for ‘please, sir, more?’
If you’re John McCain, the answer is plain: an infinite amount.
McCain continued to support Donald Trump even after Trump pointedly refused to support him. McCain supported Trump event after Trump called for McCain to be defeated. McCain still kept his allegiance to Trump after Trump called him a “dummy” and falsely stated that McCain was last in his class at the naval academy.
And McCain’s self-diminishment goes beyond just accepting personal abuse. Someone who is supposedly a defense expert might be expected to shy away from supporting a man who is being shunned by 50 Republican experts on national security (http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/8/8/1558047/--None-of-us-will-vote-for-Donald-Trump-say-50-national-security-Republicans).

#NeverTrump GOP senator voting for Colin Powell over Hillary because of Iran deal — which Powell backed
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL), who made waves earlier this year when he said he would not vote for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, undermined his own argument on Wednesday when pressed by CNN host Brooke Baldwin.
Kirk said he would not vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton, arguing that he “can’t support someone who was for the Iran agreement.”
Powell also supported the nuclear agreement between the US and Iran.

Sean Hannity is Melting Down Already Because He Knows He’ll be to Blame For Hillary Winning
Joe Scarborough and Sean Hannity (http://www.mediaite.com/online/scarborough-hannity-can-run-from-their-trump-boosterism-but-they-shouldnt-be-allowed-to-hide/), in different but similar ways, are attempting to take cover from blowback for their obvious promotion of Donald Trump during the primaries.
Since then both have doubled, if not tripled, down on their desperate attempts to re-write history and absolve themselves from blame for the coming general election disaster.
However, Hannity deserves special mention here for going off the rails last night (http://www.mediaite.com/tv/hannity-angrily-rants-against-republicans-sabotaging-trump-names-names/) and bringing fellow Trump sycophant Laura Ingraham along to ride shotgun.
Hannity ramped up his attempt to create the (absurd) narrative that it is the “Never Trump” Republicans who will keep Trump from winning and hand Hillary the keys to the White House. He did so by naming several conservative leaders who have refused endorse Trump for president.
Among the many he cited were Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz.
He called them “crybabies” who are playing a “stupid game” and “sabotaging” the election.
It is they, he claims, who will be personally responsible for everything Hillary does in office.
However, if you look up “projection” in the dictionary (Sean may need to) it is clear that this is exactly what Hannity is doing.

Trevor Noah explains how Trump’s “Second Amendment” comment is like the famous internet dress
“In this situation, there’s two basic schools of thought,” Noah explained. “Either this was a wry comment about shooting a future president, or it was a call to voter action — and no one can agree. Was it a joke? Or was it serious?”
Noah compared Trump’s amoebic speeches to the 2015 viral phenomenon “the dress (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_dress_(viral_phenomenon)),” in that “we’re all trying to figure out what the hell it is, and no one can agree.”
“Normally politicians only get to have interpreters when they’re traveling overseas,” Noah continued. “But Donald Trump — he needs one for his own country.”

Why Trump and Pence Aren't Talking About the Auto Bailout in the Midwest
They've both been critical of the move that may have saved hundreds of thousands of jobs.
If the federal government hadn't bailed out the auto industry in 2009, the state of Michigan—where Donald Trump spoke (http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/08/donald-trump-economic-plan-taxes-detroit) about his economic plans Monday—could have lost 338,000 jobs over two years.
On Friday, the Republican nominee will be in Pennsylvania, a state that could have lost 49,000 jobs.
That's according to a 2009 analysis (http://www.cargroup.org/assets/files/impact.pdf) by the Center for Automotive Research of the worst-case scenario for Chrysler and General Motors.
Trump's running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, appeared on Wednesday in Ohio, which could have lost 201,000 jobs.
And Pence is speaking Thursday in Wisconsin, where 44,000 people could have been put out of work.
But as they campaign in the Midwest, Trump and Pence could be undercut by their criticism of that bailout.
Pence was firmly against it, and Trump, despite his customary rhetorical whirligigging that makes it impossible to pin down his actual stance, has made clear that he was not a fan of how President Barack Obama handled the situation.
While Chrysler did start manufacturing Jeeps in China again, that was to sell them in the country and avoid tariffs there.
The company was expanding (http://blogs.wsj.com/corporate-intelligence/2012/11/02/trump-slams-auto-bailout-chrysler-exec-fires-back/?cb=logged0.9492357664034934&cb=logged0.5151344707514698) Jeep production domestically at the same time.

Trump Defends Calling Obama ISIS Founder: ‘All I Do Is Tell the Truth’
Donald Trumpdefended his comment Wednesday night that President Barack Obama was the co-founder of ISIS, telling CNBC’s Squawk Box Thursday that he only ever tells the truth.
“He was the founder, absolutely the founder,” Trump said. “In fact, he gets– in sports, they have awards– he gets the Most Valuable Player award. Him, and [Hillary Clinton]. I mean she gets it too.”
“Is there something wrong with saying that?” he asked. “Are people complaining that I said he was the founder of ISIS?”

TRUMP BLASTS MEDIA FOR REPORTING THINGS HE SAYS
NEW YORK — The Republican nominee Donald Trump tore into the media on Thursday for what he called their “extremely unfair practice” of reporting the things he says.
“I’ll say something at a rally and I look out and see all these TV cameras taking every word down,” Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
“No one in politics has ever been subjected to this kind of treatment.”
“It’s unbelievable and, frankly, very unethical,” he added.
At a rally in Florida, the candidate lashed out at a TV cameraman whom he caught in the act of recording his words for broadcasting purposes.
“Look at him over there, picking up everything I’m saying, folks,” Trump shouted. “Get him out of here.”
In his interview with Fox, Trump hinted that he might drop out of this fall’s televised Presidential debates if the media continues its practice of reporting the things he says.
“I’ve always said that I would be willing to debate if I’m treated fairly,” Trump told Hannity.
“But if the media keeps recording everything I say, word for word, and then playing it back so that everyone in the country hears exactly what I said, I would consider that very, very unfair.”

Trump taint forever toxic: GOPers wouldn’t even interview someone with ‘Trump 2016’ on their résumé
Donald Trump and his toxic presidential campaign is driving away staffers from the Republican National Committee because they rightly fear coming into contact with the stench of a potentially historic loser.“If someone applied for a job and brought in a résumé that had Trump 2016 on it, I wouldn’t give them an interview,” a Republican fundraising consultant told Time (http://time.com/4447985/inside-donald-trump-meltdown/).
Behind the scenes, at least 11 RNC staffers have bolted since March, and many of them have cited Trump as the reason, reported Politico (http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/republican-national-committee-trump-rnc-226844).
The website reported that deputy press secretary James Hewitt, spokesman Fred Brown, director of Hispanic media Ruth Guerra, and research analysts Lars Trautman and Colin Spence have all blamed Trump for their decision to leave the RNC, and at least three other staffers have left over Trump’s candidacy.
Polls show Trump has put reliably red states such as Arizona, Georgia and South Carolina into play for Hillary Clinton, who is courting Mormon voters (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-reaches-out-to-mormon-voters-in-effort-to-win-utah/) in surprisingly competitive Utah.
Those signs are pointing to a potentially disastrous election for Republicans, whose down-ballot candidates (http://www.rawstory.com/2016/08/marco-rubio-and-pat-toomey-falling-behind-democratic-rivals-thanks-to-their-support-for-trump/) are also being tied to the boat anchor of Trump’s campaign.
Trump has established few campaign operations in key swing states such as Ohio, where campaign volunteers aren’t even sure whether they have the backing of local Republican Party officials.

BUSTED: Trump told 30 lies in two days during 2007 deposition about his ‘billionaire’ claims
The Washington Post said on Wednesday (https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/2016-election/trump-lies/) that the lawsuit began when Trump sued author Timothy O’Brien for defamation when O’Brien’s book TrumpNation: The Art of Being The Donald said that realistic estimates of the former reality TV star’s net worth would place him in the category of millionaire, not billionaire as he frequently claims.
Trump lost that lawsuit (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/donald-trump-loses-libel-lawsuit-232923), but not before O’Brien’s legal team turned the tables on the real estate magnate and summoned him for a lengthy deposition regarding his net worth.
It was in this deposition that Trump made his now-notorious pronouncement (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/donald-trump-loses-libel-lawsuit-232923) that he bases his net worth on his “feelings.”
“Yes, even my own feelings, as to where the world is, where the world is going, and that can change rapidly from day to day. Then you have a September 11th, and you don’t feel so good about yourself and you don’t feel so good about the world and you don’t feel so good about New York City. Then you have a year later, and the city is as hot as a pistol. Even months after that it was a different feeling. So yeah, even my own feelings affect my value to myself.”
According to the Post, Trump stretched the truth to the breaking point in a number of statements.
“Trump had misstated sales at his condo buildings. Inflated the price of membership at one of his golf clubs. Overstated the depth of his past debts and the number of his employees,” wrote David A. Fahrenthold and Robert O’Harrow Jr.
“Trump’s falsehoods were unstrategic — needless, highly specific, easy to disprove. When caught, Trump sometimes blamed others for the error or explained that the untrue thing really was true, in his mind, because he saw the situation more positively than others did,” the Post continued.
O’Brien said after the lawsuit was settled, “A very clear and visible side effect of my lawyers’ questioning of Trump is that he [was revealed as] a routine and habitual fabulist.”
Trump admitted to the Post that the intent of his lawsuit was to punish O’Brien for saying mean things about him.
“I didn’t read [the book], to be honest with you,” he said. “I never read it. I saw some of the things they said. I said: ‘Go sue him. It will cost him a lot of money.’ ”
Trump lied to O’Brien’s attorneys about his percentage of ownership in a Manhattan real estate group saying that he owned a 50 percent stake of the business, when in fact he owned less than 30 percent.
He claimed that he was paid $1 million for a single speech to New York City’s Learning Annex. He actually received $400,000.
The lawyers pointed to an interview with CNN’s Larry King in which Trump claimed to employ “Twenty-two thousand or so” workers.
“Are all those people on your payroll?” attorney Andrew Ceresny asked.
“No, not directly,” Trump admitted. He said that the figure he stated on Larry King Live included employees of other companies that acted as suppliers and subcontractors to Trump businesses.
He lied about the membership fee for one of his golf courses, inflating the figure by $100,000.
He lied about the extent of his debt in the early 90s to make his climb back to solvency look more heroic.
Trump also made a number of unsubstantiated claims in an attempt to slander and discredit O’Brien including a made-up claim that the writer was once arrested for stalking.
“I guess that was probably taken off the Internet,” Trump admitted.
The real estate magnate said that O’Brien has a reputation for threatening his sources, for using public forums to fire arrows at longtime enemies and settle old scores.
“What was the basis for that statement?” Ceresny asked.
“Just my perception of him,” Trump answered. “I don’t know that he indicated anything like that to me, but I think he probably did indirectly.”
At the end of the deposition sessions, Trump’s attorney Mark Ressler ordered that the transcripts be sealed from public scrutiny.
“I want the record to be crystal clear that every single word, every question, every answer, every word, is confidential,” Ressler demanded.
However, after he lost the suit, then appealed and then lost again, the testimony was entered into the public record.
Trump still lies when asked about the outcome of the lawsuit.
“O’Brien knows nothing about me,” Trump said in a statement to the Post this week. “His book was a total failure and ultimately I had great success doing what I wanted to do — costing this third rate reporter a lot of legal fees.”
O’Brien countered that his publisher and their insurers paid to defend TrumpNation in court, “Donald Trump lost his lawsuit and, unlike him, it didn’t cost me a penny to litigate it.”

Even Trump-backing Republicans are bracing for a massive loss — and it’s only August
Normally, you don’t start to see elected officials admitting that their presidential candidate is toast until late September or early October. This year, it’s happening in August.
The Hill has done some interviews (http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/291037-gloom-sets-in-for-gop) with several Congressional Republicans who all say that Hillary Clinton is very likely to win the presidential election in November.
“I think it will be Hillary,” admitted one House GOP lawmaker who has endorsed Trump.
“If he continues the next 90 days like the last week, then he will lose big time,” said another Trump-backing GOP lawmaker.
“Another autopsy will occur and the next time I hope lessons will be learned,” Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.) :lol like in 2012? :lol

Staffer: Trump’s screaming NC campaign director pulled gun and threatened to blow off my kneecap
As taffer from Donald Trump’s North Carolina operation is suing the campaign and former state campaign director Earl Phillip, alleging that Phillip threatened him and other staffers with a gun.According to WBTV in Charlotte (http://www.wbtv.com/story/32736823/lawsuit-trump-campaign-failed-to-act-after-staffer-pulled-gun?clienttype=generic), when Vincent Bordini approached higher-ups in the campaign, they did nothing. Another campaign official confided to Bordini that he, too, had been threatened at gunpoint by Phillip.
WBTV’s Nick Ochsner posted the first page (https://twitter.com/NickOchsnerWBTV/status/763725273120419840) of Bordini’s complaint on Twitter. The incident took place in Phillip’s Jeep in February of this year, reportedly, when Phillip “produced a pistol, put his right index finger on the trigger, and drove the barrel into Vincent’s knee cap.”
Bordini went straight to campaign officials, the suit says, speaking first to the Trump campaign’s regional director of western North Carolina.
“The Director told Vincent that he, too, had been brandished upon by Phillip,” the lawsuit says. “He was terrified.”
Phillip’s Facebook timeline is littered with pro-gun memes. “Until I am out of ammo or out of blood, I WILL FIGHT,” says one post.
“Life is about kicking ass,” says one image depicting an Army special forces operative brandishing an assault weapon, “not kissing it.”

WashPo: Sean Hannity’s Yarn About a Heroic Trump Is a Complete Lie
The Fox commentator’s website aired a story in May about how Trumppersonally sent his private plane to go ferry 200 Gulf War Marines home (http://www.hannity.com/onair/the-sean-hannity-show-55176/200-stranded-marines-needed-a-plane-14727522/), after they had been left stranded by a logistical error in 1991. The Hannity.com report is based on the second-hand recollections of a corporal and includes a photo of Marines standing in front of a plane labeled “Trump.” And the Trump campaign reportedly confirmed the story,
Unfortunately, the plane featured in the image wasn’t really Trump’s, as the mogul was in such dire financial straits that he sold off the plane for cash to help repay some outstanding loans.
The Post‘s Glenn Kessler concludes (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/08/11/too-good-to-check-sean-hannitys-tale-of-a-trump-rescue/?tid=sm_tw):
Despite the rumors on base, it’s clear that Trump had nothing to do with the dispatch of the jet to the troops stranded at Camp Lejeune.
The aircraft that ferried the troops was part of the Trump Shuttle fleet, at a time when Trump barely had control over the airline and was frantically trying to negotiate deals with bankers to prevent the collapse of his business empire.
Trump Shuttle had a contract with the military, and this flight home was part of that contract. Simple as that.
Sean Hannity needs to prominently correct this article. The Trump campaign, meanwhile, earns Four Pinocchios for confirming a story that is easily debunked.
A correction seems unlikely, as Hannity has repeatedly defended his Trump boosterism (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/sean-hannity-not-a-journalist_us_570fc4f3e4b0ffa5937e6cd2) by reminding us that he is not a journalist (http://mediamatters.org/blog/2016/04/13/im-not-journalist-sean-hannity-attacks-critics-calling-out-his-softball-interviews-trump/209912).

From fringe to mainstream: Conspiracies, baseless accusations and lunacy is the new normal for Republicans
The GOP has no firewalls to insulate itself from its crazies and the conspiracies and dark fantasia they spin out
What these stories all have in common is that they are premised on complete and unadulterated bullshit, the kind of stuff that used to be limited to shortwave radio transmissions beamed out from trailers in the Nevada desert. Now they are the mainstream of the Republican Party.
But this is the problem with the right wing and the Republicans these days. The GOP has no discernment, no firewalls to insulate itself from its crazies and the conspiracies and dark fantasia they spin out. There is no distinction to be made between its presidential candidate, a senator who has been a sleeper darling of the Republican establishment (Bill Kirstol was Cotton’s first mentor when he arrived in Washington), and the lunatics voting for it in this election.
It is hard to see how the GOP splits, forming one right-ish party while the far-right kooks slip further out onto the fringe. The kooks are the party now. Separating them out to become a functional party capable of participating in governance may not be possible.

Inside A Broken Nominee’s Mind: The Four Reasons Why Donald Trump Lies So Much
The four reasons why Donald Trump lies so much go to the heart of who Donald Trump really is; aka, what's wrong with Donald Trump.
1) In his mind. This is how Donald Trump sees the facts, whatever he thinks “in his mind” is real to him:
Trump said his personal math included the intangible value of publicity: The Learning Annex had advertised his speech heavily, and Trump thought that helped his brand. Therefore, in his mind he’d been paid more than $1 million, even though his actual payment was $400,000.
Trump claimed he never said Japan should have nukes, but he did.
2) If he’s wrong it’s someone else’s fault.
Even when Trump is brought round to admit he was wrong, he is never at fault for said wrong. In the deposition, he blamed Meredith McIver, the same person he just recently blamed for his wife’s speech being plagiarized, for a large, misleading mistake about his debt load in a book they “co-wrote” called “How to Get Rich.”
In some cases, Trump acknowledged he was wrong — but not that he was at fault.Instead, he sought to turn the blame on others.
We are now seeing this manifest in the holy trinity of Trump blame: Obama, Clinton, and the media. Trump blamed the media and Hillary Clinton for his own comments suggesting Hillary Clinton should be assassinated if she were to win and thus able to appoint Supreme Court justices.Trump surrogate Trump Jr claimed his father had apologized to the Kahn family, but this isn’t true and Trump is still blaming the media for reporting his attacks on the Gold Star family.
3) Trump treats his “perception” of reality as reality, without any reason for his “perception”:
LAWYER: When you wrote, “O’Brien . . . threatened sources by telling them he can, quote, ‘Settle scores with enemies by writing negative articles about them,’ ” what was the basis for that statement?
TRUMP: Just my perception of him.
I don’t know that he indicated anything like that to me, but I think he probably did indirectly. Just my dealing with him.
This is like Trump’s repeated false claim that President Obama founded ISIS. There is no factual basis for this claim, nor is there any way to make this sort of okay as conservative supporters have tried by saying the troop drawdown that happened under Obama created ISIS.
Not only was that drawdown a part of the SOFA signed by Bush before he left office, but Iraq had a say in it. And no matter what, there is an actual founder of ISIS and it wasn’t George W Bush or President Barack Obama.4) Trump claims things to be factual that he has no reason for thinking.
“What basis do you have for that statement?” Ceresney asked in one case, about an assertion from Trump that O’Brien had been reported to the police for stalking.
“I guess that was probably taken off the Internet,” Trump said.
We saw this when Trump claimed to have seen a video of a U.S. plane dropping off millions to Iran. There is no such video.
So the problem with Donald Trump isn’t even just that he lies so much the entire media can’t keep up with him, even when the task is divided.
The problem with Donald Trump is why he lies.
Donald Trump lies because he doesn’t grasp that there are rules of evidence.
Trump sees reality through the very distorted lens of his feelings and perceptions.
He doesn’t bother to check these against the facts.
Trump presents things as true and doesn’t care to learn if they are, indeed, true.
They are true because he wants them to be.This is what is wrong with Donald Trump, and it goes to his emotional challenges and mental inability to discern fact from fiction.
All of Trump that comes from Trump is grandiose wish fulfillment.
This is the sort of trait we find in tyrants.

Patti Davis, an actress, author and daughter of former President Ronald Reagan, penned a message to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Wednesday night, calling his recent comments about the Second Amendment “horrifying.”
Davis wrote in a Facebook post that her father had been shot, then went on to scold Trump and remind him that “words matter.”
“Your glib and horrifying comment about ‘Second Amendment people’ was heard around the world,” she wrote. “It was heard by sane and decent people who shudder at your fondness for verbal violence.”
“It was heard by the person sitting alone in a room, locked in his own dark fantasies, who sees unbridled violence as a way to make his mark in the world, and is just looking for ideas,” Davis added.

Is this news to you? Why do you think every presidential candidate lays out legislation plans? Tax policy, trade deals, etc., etc.,... The president doesn't "make" the laws, but it still matters what he/she thinks because he/she will be guiding the legislative action of his or her party and signing laws.

Trash Says He’d Try Americans At Gitmo. Which Is Illegal.
Donald Trump (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/donald-trump/) once again threw legality into the wind, suggesting that Americans could be tried at Guantánamo Bay (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/guantanamo/) if he’s president. As the Miami Herald points out, (http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/election/donald-trump/article95144337.html)that’s against current U.S. law.
Trump told the Herald (http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/election/donald-trump/article95144337.html) on Thursday that it “would be fine” for military tribunals at the infamous detention center to prosecute U.S. citizens suspected of terrorism.
“I know that they want to try them in our regular court systems, and I don’t like that at all,” the GOP presidential nominee said.
You can see his full remarks in the video above.
Trump’s lack of concern for U.S. laws is well documented.
He has suggested he might pull the U.S. from NAFTA (http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-idUSKCN0ZE0Z0) and
said that’d he “open libel laws” (http://uk.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-libel-laws-sue-media-2016-2?r=US&IR=T) to make it easier (http://www.politico.com/blogs/on-media/2016/02/donald-trump-libel-laws-219866) to sue journalists.
The GOP nominee also may have broken multiple (http://mediamatters.org/blog/2016/07/21/nbc-s-today-ignores-possible-lawbreaking-interview-trump-campaign-chairman/211784) federal election laws. (http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2016/01/13/bush-aligned-lawyer-donald-trumps-camp-breaking-federal-election-law/78756404/)
He’s equally unconcerned about international humanitarian laws.
Most notable are his repeated promises (http://edition.cnn.com/2016/03/22/politics/donald-trump-torture-brussels-abdeslam/) to bring back waterboarding, an act that is widely considered torture (http://lawnewz.com/high-profile/ted-cruz-is-wrong-waterboarding-is-considered-legal-torture-by-most/).
And, during a GOP debate earlier this year, he even vowed to use torture (https://www.thenation.com/article/exactly-what-kind-of-torture-does-donald-trump-want-to-use/) “a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding.”
Trump’s also pledged (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-families-terrorists_us_565ef81ae4b072e9d1c41f99) to “take out” the families of suspects ― regardless of their involvement in or knowledge of terror attack plans.
President Barack Obama (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/barack-obama/) has acknowledged (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/01/obama-cia-torture-some-folks-brennan-spying) that the CIA “tortured some folks” in the years after the 9/11 attacks.
But he’s said the so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques” the U.S. used to get information from terrorist suspects “was a mistake” that “crossed the line.”

The true founder of ISIS
No matter how you feel about politics, there has been no evidence to suggest that Obama literally created ISIS.
"I would say it's another unsupportable conspiracy theory," John Limbert, an international affairs professor and former State Department counterterrorism official, told Politifact (http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/jun/15/donald-trump/donald-trump-suggests-barack-obama-supported-isis-/) last month when Trump floated the concept that the president supported Al Qaeda and ISIS.
Politifact rated the claim to be a "Pants on Fire" lie.
ISIS's generally recognized creator was a Jordanian man named Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who started a group named Al Qaeda in Iraq in 2004 after leaving prison.
He pledged loyalty to Osama bin Laden and wanted "to foment a civil war" by targeting Shiite Muslims, "causing them to retaliate against Sunnis, who would then have no choice but to turn to jihadists for protection," PBS reported (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/who-was-the-founder-of-isis/).
Zarqawi was killed in an airstrike in 2006, but his ideas had taken hold. His successor, Abu Ayub al-Masri, changed Zarqawi's organization's name to the Islamic State of Iraq later that year. Masri also put Abu Umar al-Baghdadi in charge.
A raid left both men dead in 2010, and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the current leader of ISIS, took over, according to Stanford University's Mapping Militant Organizations project (http://web.stanford.edu/group/mappingmilitants/cgi-bin/groups/view/1).
While ISIS was forming overseas, Obama was busy campaigning for and eventually being elected to the presidency. In 2014, he announced the U.S. was putting together an anti-ISIS coalition to conduct airstrikes on the extremist group.
"Our objective is clear: We will degrade, and ultimately destroy, ISIL through a comprehensive and sustained counterterrorism strategy," Obama said at the time (http://www.state.gov/s/seci/).
The Pentagon has said (http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/10/12/islamic-state-pentagon/73840116/) its airstrikes have taken out more than 20,000 ISIS supporters.

TRUMP SAYS HE WOULD ONLY USE NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN A SARCASTIC WAY
NEW YORK — Clarifying his position on a key national-security issue, Donald Trump said on Friday that as President he would be willing to use nuclear weapons “but only in a sarcastic way.”
“People who are worried about me having the nuclear launch codes should stop worrying, O.K.?” Trump told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
“If I ever used nuclear weapons it would be really obvious that I was just being sarcastic.”
Pressed by Blitzer to explain the
difference between a sarcastic and non-sarcastic nuclear attack,
Trump responded,
“You’d use the weapons and everything, but then you’d say, ‘Just kidding.’”
Trump did not specify which nations he would target for a sarcastic nuclear attack. “I can’t say right now,” he said. “But there are a lot of countries that need to lighten up.”

Donald Trump is only looking out for himself and his billionaire friends? Not surprised.
Why would we even expect Donald to come up with a serious plan to fix a rigged economy? He's the one who rigged it.
Donald says he will "fix" trade – he can start by shutting down his own sweatshops in Bangladesh and pay workers in the U.S. a living wage.
(Wanna know why Trump believes wages are too high in the U.S.? He is used to paying 30 cents an hour in low-wage countries abroad.)
He's the poster child of failed trade policies:
❌ Trump clothing made in Mexico
❌ Trump ties made in China
❌ Trump shirts made in Bangladesh
❌ Trump furniture made in Turkey and Germany
❌ Trump picture frames made in India
❌ Trump barware made in Slovenia
Wanna know how serious Donald is about fixing the trade problem?
From Trump University: "Outsourcing Creates Jobs in the Long Run."
Meanwhile, Trump is proposing huge tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires while gutting the Department of Education and the EPA.
Trump's plan to repeal the estate tax alone would give a $269 billion tax break over a 10-year period to the top two-tenths of 1 percent.
In total, Trump wants to provide a $3 trillion tax cut to Americans who make over $1 million a year.

Mentally Unbalanced Man Still Waiting For The Right Trump Comment To Incite Him
http://i.onionstatic.com/onion/5406/5/16x9/1200.jpg
HARRISBURG, PA—Explaining that the candidate’s recent inflammatory statements had further stoked his uncontrollable fury but hadn’t quite pushed him over the edge, local resident and mentally unhinged man Peter Scheft told reporters Friday he is still waiting for the exact right comment from Trump that will incite him to action.
“Donald Trump has definitely said a lot of things that have reinforced my paranoid worldview, but I still haven’t heard that one key phrase that I know will really set me off,” said the psychologically disturbed 45-year-old, who noted that Trump’s remarks over the past 12 months, while increasingly vitriolic and incendiary, have not yet been worded in such a way that speaks directly to his delusional beliefs and spurs him to act on his manic, deep-seated rage.
“It might not be tomorrow, or next week, or maybe not even until the debates, but sooner or later Trump is going to utter a perfectly phrased comment that provokes a major reaction from me.
It could be a statement comparing all refugees to the 9/11 hijackers, or one that
describes liberal judges as enemies of the Constitution bent on removing all our freedoms—
regardless, I have complete confidence that between now and Election Day, something he says will just click and set me on an irreversible course of action.”
The deeply troubled individual added that if Trump were to ever direct a bitter comment toward women who use Planned Parenthood services, that might be just the ticket.

Trump makes play for evangelicals by noting his problems in Mormon-rich Utah
Trump tried to draw a direct distinction between himself and Mitt Romney, the party’s 2012 nominee, who would have become the nation’s first Mormon president.
Echoing some post-2012 analysis suggesting that Romney’s religion led some evangelicals to stay home, Trump said “religion didn’t get out and vote” for the former governor, “whatever the reason.”
Here in Orlando, he spoke to leaders of evangelical Christian groups, some of whom have privately expressed skepticism about Mormons.
Trump stressed his difficulties in the country’s only majority-Mormon state — making an apparent play for support by noting that he has a “tremendous problem” in Utah.
Recent polls have shown Clinton within striking distance of Trump in Utah.
Trump’s brash style appears to have turned off much of the state’s large Mormon population, as it did during the GOP primary campaign.
Trump lost badly to Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.) in Utah’s Republican caucuses. :lol

Trump backs away from labeling Obama founder of Islamic State
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday backed away from repeated remarks labeling President Barack Obama and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton as the founders of Islamic State, saying they were sarcasm.
A new opinion poll showed Trump losing ground in three crucial states.
Trump used the unfounded description of Clinton and Obama on Wednesday night and all day on Thursday during campaign appearances in Florida, including in an interview on Thursday with radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt.
"I meant he’s (Obama) the founder of ISIS. I do. He was the most valuable player," Trump said, using an acronym for the militant Islamist group, adding that Clinton also deserved the MVP award.
But in a tweet on Friday, he called the comments sarcasm.
It was the same tactic he used to try to quell criticism after he invited Russia in late July to dig up tens of thousands of "missing" emails from Clinton's time as U.S. secretary of state.
He tweeted, "Ratings challenged @CNN reports so seriously that I call President Obama (and Clinton) 'the founder' of ISIS, & MVP. THEY DON'T GET SARCASM?"
Trump's accusation against Obama and Clinton went well beyond a charge made in the past by him and other Republicans: that the president and former secretary of state helped create the conditions for the rise of Islamic State by withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq in 2011.
But a Wall Street Journal/NBC News/Marist poll released on Friday suggested support for Trump is eroding among voters in three battleground states.
Such states are hotly contested because their populations can swing either to Republicans or Democrats and thus play a decisive role in presidential elections.
The poll found Clinton widening her lead in Colorado, Virginia and North Carolina, while holding her advantage over Trump in Florida.
Clinton released her tax returns on Friday, painting the move as a sign of transparency that her campaign says Trump lacks.

Happy Birthday Social Security -- Let's Remember That Mike Pence Was A Cheerleader For The Program's Destruction
As early as 2002 (https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2002/3/6/house-section/article/h725-1?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22mike+pence%5C%22 %22%2C%22Social+Security%22%5D%7D&resultIndex=6), Pence spoke in the House of Representatives in favor of privatization. In 2005, after President Bush proposed reforms, he delivered (https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2005/2/9/house-section/article/h418-2?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22mike+pence%5C%22 %22%2C%22Social+Security%22%5D%7D&resultIndex=2) speech (https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2005/6/22/house-section/article/h4902-3?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22mike+pence%5C%22 %22%2C%22Social+Security%22%5D%7D&resultIndex=1)after (https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2005/6/23/house-section/article/h4989-5?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22mike+pence%5C%22 %22%2C%22Social+Security%22%5D%7D&resultIndex=3) speech (https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2005/5/11/house-section/article/h3118-4?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22mike+pence%5C%22 %22%2C%22Social+Security%22%5D%7D&resultIndex=4) in (https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2005/5/17/house-section/article/h3336-1?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22mike+pence%5C%22 %22%2C%22Social+Security%22%5D%7D&resultIndex=5) favor (https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2002/3/6/house-section/article/h725-1?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22mike+pence%5C%22 %22%2C%22Social+Security%22%5D%7D&resultIndex=6) of the proposal. He claimed at the time (https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2005/5/11/house-section/article/h3118-4?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22mike+pence%5C%22 %22%2C%22Social+Security%22%5D%7D&resultIndex=4), “Social Security reform means keeping its promise in tact for seniors and all who choose to remain in the system. But Social Security reform also means offering a better deal to younger Americans in the form of voluntary personal accounts.”
A consistent theme of Pence’s was that privatization and other reforms would save the program from insolvency and protect seniors from future cuts. This was not true.
According to an analysis at the time from the Center for American Progress (https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/economy/news/2005/05/05/1462/primer-on-president-bushs-plan-for-social-security-privatization/), such reforms would actually “worsen Social Security’s financial outlook. In addition:
Bush Would Address Solvency Solely by Cutting Benefits.
Benefit Cuts Would Come Through a Change in the Benefit Formula.
Bush’s Benefit Cuts Would Affect 70 Percent of All Taxpayers.
More Benefit Cuts Down the Road under Bush’s Plan.
Furthermore, Bush’s privatization plan would have added “trillions of dollars” to the deficit, while only providing “limited” investment choices for seniors. Yet Pence enthusiastically supported this policy.

Trump Blows A Gasket Changes His Mind And Claims Obama Really Did Found ISIS
Donald Trump has blown up in Pennsylvania and changed his mind by claiming that he isn't being sarcastic. Obama really did found ISIS.
When I said that Obama, and of course, I’m being sarcastic.
They know that, because after I said that, I said he’s the MVP, he is going to collect his MVP award.
So I said Obama is the founder of ISIS, the founder, and these dishonest media people they say did he mean that, and after that, I’d say a lot, in fact, they like him so much because he’s been so week and so bad.
I mean, he let this happen.
They had eight states.
They had eight countries.
They’re now in twenty-eight countries.
They’re expanding.
So I said the founder of ISIS. Obviously, I was being sarcastic, then, then but not that sarcastic to be honest with you.
Trump then went on a rant about the media being the lowest form of humanity.

Trump co-chair smears Khan Gold Star parents with a vicious lie: They support ‘ISIS-type’ groups
Carl Paladino is a proud co-chair of the Donald Trump campaign in New York and he’s frustrated at the bum rap his candidate is getting over the Khan family scandal.
Trump surrogates and spokespeople have tried to move forward, but moments like Paladino’s keep popping up. Paladino’s son died in Iraq in 2004 but he has little sympathy for the Khan family, claiming Mr. Khan doesn’t deserve the title of a Gold Star parent. He explained that Khan is “anti-American” and alleged he is supportive of “the ISIS-type of attitude against America.”
“We’ve got an un-indicted felon as his opponent and you’re talking about Khan, about him making a remark about this man,” Paladino told Imus in the Morning.
“All right, I don’t care if he’s a Gold Star parent.
He certainly doesn’t deserve that title, OK, if he’s as anti-American as he’s illustrated in his speeches and in his discussion.
I mean, if he’s a member of the Muslim Brotherhood or supporting, you know, the ISIS-type of attitude against America, there’s no reason for Donald Trump to have to honor this man.”
He continued the conversation by pushing internet conspiracy rumors about Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton’s health that have been debunked (http://www.snopes.com/hillary-clinton-medical-records-leaked/) and that President Barack Obama is a secret Muslim, which has also been debunked (http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2010/aug/26/18-percent-american-public/obama-muslim-no-hes-not-evidence-has-not-changed/).

Trump trolling the oven dodger media
Here’s the set-up:
1. The mainstream media knows they are smarter than Donald Trump. They see evidence of this truth all the time, although much of that evidence is confirmation bias.*
Then…
2. Trump does something smart – accusing Obama and Clinton of being*“founders” of ISIS. This is a clever way to get the world to debate Clinton and Obama’s ineffectiveness during a time when ISIS expanded. In other words, it is brilliant media manipulation, and it worked.
3. CNN and other Clinton supporters interpret Trump’s statement about ISIS as absurd and uninformed because they can’t imagine a scenario in which Trump does something brilliant. Trump being brilliant isn’t one of the options, as far as they know.
The reality of Trump’s clever persuasion is crystal-clear to anyone who thinks Trump is smart. Trump was clearly joking about the*“founder” part to get people squawking, and it worked. Total success. Brilliant technique.
Now the media has a big problem. They can’t admit that they were extraordinarily dumb in this situation and Trump was brilliant. That reality is invisible to them because it doesn’t fit their worldview.
So…cognitive dissonance happens.*
This is a textbook set-up for cognitive dissonance. The facts we observe (Trump is smart, the media is gullible) is opposite of the media’s worldview in which they are smart and Trump is uninformed. So what do they do?
They act as if Trump is the dumb one in this situation. Because that fits their worldview.
And…they…fact-check his claim.
Meanwhile, the unhypnotized laugh themselves into a stupor watching this spectacle of cognitive dissonance. Humor aside, it is a marvelous and incredible thing to behold.
One of my smartest friends just emailed me to say he thinks Trump really believes that Obama and Clinton*“founded” ISIS. My friend has a very high IQ and he’s well-informed. But cognitive dissonance isn’t influenced by intelligence. He believes whatever fits his worldview. Just like the rest of us.
The fun part is that we can see cognitive dissonance when it happens to others – such as with my friend, and CNN – but we can’t see it when it happens to us. So don’t get too smug about this. You’re probably next.*
I think this story will end up in psychology textbooks. You rarely see such a clean example of cognitive dissonance in public.
Oh, and Trump hates babies, and he also wants a 2nd amendment supporter to assassinate his opponent. As long as the media is being dumbasses, they might as well fact-check that stuff too.
I have never been so entertained.

Trump Has Gone So Crazy That His Own Campaign Has No Idea What He’s Talking About
Donald Trump has gone so crazy that even his own campaign can’t explain what he is talking about.
Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson aimlessly flailed around an MSNBC interview when she was asked if Trump was being sarcastic when he said that Obama founded ISIS.
Kristen Welker asked Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson if Trump was being sarcastic about Obama founding ISIS.Her answer was, “Yes and no.”
Pierson tried to compare Trump’s comments to Clinton joking that she knew so little about computers that she thought you wiped a hard drive with a cloth.
Welker zoomed right back in, “Katrina, I’m going to stop you. The answer can’t be both yes and no.”
Pierson said that Trump was being sarcastic, but he was being very serious when he talked about what happened and why ISIS was here today.
Welker brought up Trump telling Hugh Hewitt that he was being literal.
Pierson tried to spin, but it was obvious that she was making up her own interpretation of what Trump meant as the interview went along.Donald Trump has gone so far down the rabbit hole that his own campaign has no idea what he is talking about.
Here is how the latest Trump mess has gone down:
1). Trump claimed Obama founded ISIS.
2). Trump said he was only being sarcastic.
3). Later the same day, Trump reverses himself and claims that he really wasn’t being sarcastic.
Donald Trump’s own campaign can’t explain their candidate’s out of control behavior.
Trump has gone far off the rails that there is no clean up possible.
What we are witnessing is a candidate who is so uncontrollable that he has gone rogue on his own campaign.

An Even Stranger Donald Trump
Donald Trump’s rallies once drew their share of benign conservatives, offbeat libertarians and plain curiosity seekers.
But as time and Mr. Trump’s act have worn on, many of them have no doubt gone the way of his poll numbers. Mr. Trump’s crowds remain big and loud, but they’re angrier and more malevolent, and so is Mr. Trump.
By referring to the president by his full name, Barack Hussein Obama, he continues to wink at some of his staunchest supporters:
conspiracy theorists obsessed with the false claim that Mr. Obama is a secret Muslim.
The trolls and websites that advance racist theories have supplied Mr. Trump with talking points for years. He consulted with (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/03/us/politics/donald-trump-birther-obama.html) one of them in 2011, when he launched his “birther” campaign, falsely claiming that Mr. Obama was born outside the United States.
Sure enough, Mr. Trump’s Twitter legions took up the call. Tweeted one: “Barack Hussein Obama is the Founder of ISIS! America’s Islamist-in-Chief, America’s Muslim-in-Charge. An ongoing disaster threatening World!”
One whose Twitter avatar is the muzzle of a revolver wrote, “So Why Can’t Barack Hussein Obama Admit #ISIS (https://twitter.com/hashtag/ISIS?src=hash) Beheaded Christians?”
When Mr. Trump fans racist rage against the president,
suggests that gun owners take up arms against Mrs. Clinton, or
speaks darkly of a “rigged” election,
he is not trying to woo Republican skeptics, independents or undecided voters.
He is appealing to the mob.

Pieces of Silver
By now, it’s obvious to everyone with open eyes that Donald Trump is an ignorant, wildly dishonest, erratic, immature, bullying egomaniac.
On the other hand, he’s a terrible person.
But despite some high-profile defections, most senior figures in the Republican Party — very much including Paul Ryan, the speaker of the House, and Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader — are still supporting him, threats of violence and all.
Why?
there’s a third answer, which can be summarized in one number: 34.
What’s that? It’s the Congressional Budget Office’s estimate of the average federal tax rate (https://www.cbo.gov/publication/51361) for the top 1 percent in 2013, the latest year available.
And it’s up from just 28.2 in 2008, because President Obama allowed the high-end Bush tax cuts to expire and imposed new taxes to pay for a dramatic expansion of health coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
Taxes on the really, really rich have gone up even more.
If Hillary Clinton wins, taxes on the elite will at minimum stay at this level, and may even go up significantly if Democrats do well enough in congressional races to enable her to pass new legislation. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center estimates (http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/sites/default/files/alfresco/publication-pdfs/2000638-an-analysis-of-hillary-clintons-tax-proposals.pdf) that her tax plan would raise the average tax rate for the top 1 percent by another 3.4 percentage points, and the rate for the top 0.1 percent by five points.
But if “populist” Donald Trump wins, taxes on the wealthy will go way down; in particular, Mr. Trump is calling for elimination of the inheritance tax, which these days hits only a tiny number of really yuuuge estates (a married couple doesn’t pay any tax unless its estate is worth more than $10.9 million (https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/estate-tax)).
So if you’re wealthy, or you’re someone who has built a career by reliably serving the interests of the wealthy, the choice is clear
— as long as you don’t care too much about stuff like
shunning racism,
preserving democracy and
freedom of religion, or
for that matter avoiding nuclear war,
Mr. Trump is your guy.

Once in control of their party, conservatives agonize over the election and beyond
DENVER — Glenn Beck had traveled across the country to stop Donald Trump from winning the Republican nomination. He didn’t succeed.
Pacing the stage here at the RedState Gathering, a conference for conservative activists being held this weekend, Beck acknowledged that many Republicans would vote for Trump to stop Hillary Clinton from winning the presidency.
He wouldn’t.
“I know, as a recovering alcoholic, that the truth will set you free,” Beck said Friday. “This election is between two choices that suck.”
Hundreds of conservative activists and bloggers cheered. None of them booed. With fewer than 90 days to go before the election, an annual event that usually revs up Republicans had become a therapy session on the agony of 2016.
Trump was not invited; the highest-profile speakers, such as Beck and Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), were adamantly anti-Trump. Attendees debated whether the election was still winnable, whether the Republican Party was fixable, and who was to blame for a looming Clinton victory.
In their darkest moments, they couldn’t imagine how the infighting would end.
“If Trump loses, the Republican National Committee will realize that this situation’s got to change,” said Leon Wolf, the editor of the RedState website that gives the conference its name. “But 40 percent of their party enthusiastically supported this guy. How far do they dare to go in alienating these people?”
At the same time, RedState’s editors and users tried to police the conservative movement. In 2007, the site blocked a wave of “zany” new users who were using the site to promote the Ron Paul presidential campaign. In 2015, the site’s longtime editor, Erick Erickson, disinvited Trump from the Gathering, citing the candidate’s comment that Fox News debate co-moderator Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever” when she grilled him during a Republican debate.
“I just don’t want someone on stage who gets a hostile question from a lady and his first inclination is to imply it was hormonal,” Erickson said.
The reporters who had packed last year’s conference wondered whether the comment about Kelly would be a pivot moment, a sign that Republican voters were abandoning Trump. It was not. In the year since, Trump had taken over the Republican Party, while RedState editors such as Wolf and Ben Howe achieved sudden cable news fame as Trump critics; Erickson founded a new site critical of Trump and briefly tried to draft a third-party conservative candidate into the race. RedState’s traffic was up for the year, but its leading voices were constantly being reminded of where the power was in the GOP.
For rank-and-file conservatives, the question was to join a rebellion or to join a possibly losing campaign for the White House. “I’m playing for the team,” said Alex Iscoe, 21, an activist who wore the lone “Make America Great Again” cap at the conference. “If the team doesn’t win, we get four more years of Obama, basically — or worse.”
All weekend, the fact that the presidential election was between Trump and Clinton hung in the air like a foul odor. The conference was sponsored by a constellation of groups, such as the Charles Koch Institute and the millennial-focused Generation Opportunity, which had long ago switched from electioneering to advocating for free-market reform. In a glitchy series of pre*recorded videos, House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) pivoted from a question about 2016 to a question about what he had learned from his 2012 vice-presidential run.
“The single greatest threat to national security is sitting in the Oval Office,” John Bolton, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said at the end of a long indictment of the Obama administration’s foreign policy. “The second-greatest threat is coming right behind him, unless things change dramatically.”
Darryl Glenn, the Republican who is seeking to unseat Sen. Michael F. Bennet (D-Colo.) in November, blamed the news media for the idea that “everything’s negative out there.” After Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) equivocated on whether Trump could win the state — the real estate mogul trails by double digits — an audience member excitedly grabbed a microphone to remind him that “they said you couldn’t win your race, either.”
Few of the conservatives who had come to Denver were so optimistic. Steve Deace, an influential Iowa radio host who had endorsed Cruz for president, predicted that Trump would lose and then stick around to continue hurting the conservative movement.
“He’s going to get months of free media when he loses,” Deace said. “He will not go away.” Deace argued that Trump will have to kiss up to the “liberal elites whose approval he craves, and he will do it by attacking all of us.”
Cruz did not attend the conference, telling organizers that he previously committed to a family vacation. But the 45-year-old senator’s political future was never far from the RedState discussion. Asked about Cruz’s speech at the Republican National Convention, at which he was heckled for refusing to endorse Trump, Beck said he had called to thank him for doing it. Cruz, he said, had acted in the tradition of Charles Sumner, the anti-slavery senator beaten with a cane by pro-slavery Democrats, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pastor who returned home from America to oppose the Nazis.
Kendal Unruh was more pessimistic. Elected as a Cruz delegate from Colorado, she had led an effort — “Free the Delegates” — to stop Trump at the convention.
“I don’t see myself spending the next 30 years to rebuild the party,” she said. “I know that Cruz is gearing up Carly Fiorina to run for party chair. That’s a brilliant move. But in order to that, you have to roll all those RNC members, and we’ve seen how that goes.”
Fiorina made it to Denver, introduced wryly as “that face” — a reference to how Trump had once mocked her looks. In a 30-minute speech, she promised to campaign “for down-ballot candidates” and avoided mentioning the nominee.
Not every conservative would allow himself to think that way.
“I’m a conservative before I’m a Republican,” said Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union. “It’s our philosophy that guides us, not the elephant. I’m happy to help the elephant when he’s right; I’m happy to pick up his poop when he’s got problems in the middle of the street. All of that stuff — I’ve signed up for that.”

How Donald Trump’s bizarre voter-watch effort could get the GOP in trouble
After telling an audience in Altoona, Pa., that he would seek their help in policing the polls in November to root out voter fraud — something that even the state of Pennsylvania has noted (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/08/12/donald-trump-says-hell-only-lose-pennsylvania-where-hes-down-9-points-is-if-cheating-goes-on/?postshare=4051471094897387&tid=ss_tw-bottom) doesn't exist in any meaningful way — Donald Trump's campaign nationalized the effort on Saturday morning.
Now eager Trump backers can go to Trump's website (https://www.donaldjtrump.com/lp/volunteer-to-be-a-trump-election-observer) and sign up to be "a Trump Election Observer." Do so, and you get an email thanking you for volunteering and assuring you that the campaign will "do everything we are legally allowed to do to stop crooked Hillary from rigging this election."
There are any number of problems with this, again starting with the fact that the frequency of in-person voter fraud in elections is lower (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/08/03/heres-how-rare-in-person-voter-fraud-is/) than getting five numbers right in the Powerball. But there's a potentially bigger legal problem noted by (http://electionlawblog.org/?p=85289) election law expert Rick Hasen of the University of California at Irvine:
Trump's unnecessary effort could be violating a prohibition against voter intimidation that applies to the Republican Party.
Trump in Altoona:
"We have to call up law enforcement.
And we have to have the sheriffs and the police chiefs and everybody watching. ...
The only way they can beat it in my opinion — and I mean this 100 percent — if in certain sections of the state they cheat, okay?")

No electricity and bouncing paychecks: What it was like to work for Trump Magazine
a former employee for Trump Magazinedocuments a cash-strapped and dysfunctional company where paychecks bounced, the power was shut off due to unpaid bills and important health insurance was cancelled — after a cancer diagnosis.
One might call it a preview of Trump’s America.
According to Carey Purcell, she took a position as a receptionist with Trump Magazine — originally called Trump World — in 2006 when it was under the direction of publisher Michael Jacobson,
Trump himself was paid a licensing fee of $120,000 per issue as of 2005,
which was increased to $135,000 per issue in 2006.
His hands-on involvement — outside of using the magazine to promote his name, his ventures and his family — was to sign off on each issue, making notes on proofs with a Sharpie and ensuring that he and his family looked good inside the magazine.
According to the magazine’s former creative director, the rest of every issue was filled with “wealth porn.”
Purcell notes that four months into her $25,000-a-year job answering phones and opening mail, her first paycheck bounced.
“The first time it happened, it seemed like an accident, or maybe an oversight. The office accountant quickly issued a new payment and covered the fee for the check bouncing,” she wrote. “But then it happened again. And this time, the company didn’t reissue a check.
Instead, I was handed a brown paper bag filled with hundred-dollar bills to cover for the company’s lack of payroll funds.”
She points out that the inner workings of the magazine was a mess with “no company-wide database for subscriptions; all the information was stored in Excel spreadsheets that were emailed back and forth,” odd and extravagant expenses charged to the magazine, and a publisher who increasingly disappeared for days at a time.

Donald Trump's spokeswoman Katrina Pierson says (incorrectly) that it was Obama who 'went into Afghanistan'
Donald Trump's spokeswoman leveled false accusations against President Obama on Saturday, saying he started the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan.
When asked on CNN about Trump saying Obama was the "founder" (http://www.latimes.com/nation/politics/trailguide/la-na-trailguide-updates-trump-calls-obama-the-founder-of-1470914177-htmlstory.html) of Islamic State, spokeswoman Katrina Pierson delivered a lengthy response in which she proclaimed it was Obama who "went into Afghanistan," where U.S. troops had begun fighting in 2001 under former President George W. Bush.
"Remember, we weren’t even in Afghanistan by this time," she said of Obama taking office in 2009. "Barack Obama went into Afghanistan creating another problem."
The visibly surprised CNN anchor pressed Pierson to confirm that she was saying that Obama took the country into Afghanistan.
"What I'm saying is the policies of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton — that was Obama’s war, yes,” Pierson said.

Trump’s 5 Biggest Lies
http://www.nationalmemo.com/wp-content/uploads/Reuters_Direct_Media/USOnlineReportPoliticsNews/tagreuters.com2016binary_LYNXNPEC5R1RO-BASEIMAGE-e1467710787184-668x501.jpg
1. His supporters are the only “real Americans.”
Trump is doing worse with white voters, suffering unprecedented losses with college-educated Republicans and Republican women.
Still, somehow, Trump has convinced America’s loudest, angriest, and most ungrateful minority that they’re silent and a majority.
“Most Americans are white, most are Christian, most don’t have college degrees, and most live in the South or Midwest Census Bureau regions (http://www2.census.gov/geo/pdfs/maps-data/maps/reference/us_regdiv.pdf),”FiveThirtyEight‘s Nate Silver wrote.
“And yet, only about 1 in 5 voters meets all of these descriptions.” America’s working class is increasingly diverse.
While Trump has endeavored to do something Republicans have failed to do for generations — empathize with the pain of American workers who’ve been displaced by globalization (http://www.eclectablog.com/2016/08/trumps-biggest-fans-would-also-be-some-of-trumps-worst-victims.html)
2. He was against the Iraq War.
Trump’s one foreign policy credential is a lie. Unlike Barack Obama, Trump was for the war (https://www.buzzfeed.com/christophermassie/a-guide-to-donald-trump-early-flip-flops-on-the-iraq-war?utm_term=.jlD1P5y6A#.ap623DBPK) when it was hardest to be against it. And he was for the withdrawal (https://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/trump-cites-iraq-withdrawal-he-passionately-supported-to-say?utm_term=.wckxbg5ed#.nnX4eNlnp) that he now blames for the creation of ISIS.
3. He would help workers.
Trump completed his evolution to full Romneyism/ Bushism/ Rubioism while maintaining his trademark racism (https://newrepublic.com/minutes/135902/donald-trump-now-running-mitt-romneys-campaign-plus-racism).
It’s the same old tax breaks that mostly or only help the rich, matched with… nothing to help workers.
“If such policies were effective, we would remember George W. Bush’s presidency as one of great prosperity, instead of a period of stagnant wages for blue- and white-collar workers,”
4. The press is killing his campaign.
Trump’s act used to feature him bragging about polls and acting awed over his success.
Now that the stench of failure follows him like a dazed Mike Pence, he’s stuck ranting against the institution that made his rise possible — free media.
The Washington Post‘s Greg Sargent points out (https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2016/08/05/trump-thought-he-could-win-through-sheer-media-dominance-in-reality-its-killing-him/?utm_term=.a700c3411ce7) that while Trump’s “dominate all media” strategy worked in the GOP primary, he was completely unprepared for how “the coverage and scrutiny are inevitably getting a lot harsher, at precisely the moment when Trump is devolving into his worst bouts of depravity and unhinged behavior yet.”
5. Society is rigged against a fortunate son who’s relied on government help his entire career.
Trump’s rich daddy gave him every advantage known to man, which helped Trump avoid the draft and launch his business.
The courts protected him from creditors — over and over again.
City government and tax breaks fueled his first development projects.
Powerful lobbyists keep him from paying taxes.
Conservative media gave him a platform.
Cable news desperate for relevance let him exploit their airwaves to perform informercials of hate.
his escalating wrath comes from knowing that as rigged as his success has been,
he’s facing the greatest failure of his life, perhaps the most resounding defeat suffered by any candidate in a generation.
And he’s losing fair and square. Sad!

TRUMP BLAMES BAD POLL NUMBERS ON EXISTENCE OF NUMERICAL SYSTEM
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO — Donald J. Trump lashed out a new target on Monday, blaming his bad poll numbers on the existence of the numerical system.
In sometimes rambling remarks at an outdoor rally in Ohio, the Republican Presidential nominee called the numerical system “rigged” and unleashed a torrent of abuse on numbers themselves, calling them “disgusting” and “the lowest form of life.”
“It’s why I won’t release my taxes,” he said. “They’re full of goddam numbers.”
While Republican candidates in the past have attempted to exploit their supporters’ distrust of math, Trump is believed to be the first nominee to call into question the numerical system itself.
Behind the scenes, G.O.P. insiders fretted that, in attacking the very existence of numbers, Trump was veering wildly off message.
“He should be talking about Hillary Clinton, and instead he’s going off on integers,” one insider said.
Officially, aides remained upbeat about the campaign and denied reports that Trump was spending an increasingly large portion of each day angrily muttering to himself and chewing on paper.

Mr. Trump went to the Wharton School of Finance. He's like a really smart person.
I’m telling you, I used to use the word incompetent. Now I just call them stupid. I went to an Ivy League school. I’m very highly educated. I know words, I have the best words...but there is no better word than stupid. Right?
"I've got words."
I am going to strain my eyes rolling them before November.

I am somewhat in awe of the way he is manipulating media to try and control the narrative and dominate coverage. It is working well.
He says stuff with juuust enough plausible denial to say "I wasn't really serious", but which resonate with angry disillusioned white people, then gets to play the "liberal media" card.
That Right there though pinpoints what is Trumps greatest failing:
His massive ego, and overconfidence. He got so pumped up in the primaries, where what he said didn’t really have to be smell tested by independents, or worry about riling up Democrats, that he set his own strategy up in his mind as a winning one that doesn’t need to be changed.
The datapoint that his ego won’t let him see is that he is creating his opponents narrative for her. His ego also doesn’t want to admit that he is part of a larger entity, the Republican party.
He is NOT a team player. The same eschewing of social norms that is causing Republicans down-ticket to not just back away from him, but to actively disavow their top-ticket nominee, will not play well on the world stage either. Countries and alliances are not too unlike individuals in that regard. Trump’s presidency would see our great country turned into a pariah, and actively hand our enemies constant propaganda victories about an unstable, unreliable superpower that can’t be trusted.
Trump’s strategy is working and is, in its limited way, brilliant. It is also going to fail spectacularly in November when it comes to producing votes. It is a brilliant way to win media coverage, but an utter failure at getting votes.
The reality TV star with the outsized ego will be unable to see that. I would offer the fact that he didn’t pivot, and every day he doesn’t try to get the bilge pumps working is a day closer to that.
Trumps candidacy will have damaging effects long after the election is over, and we have sworn in the first woman president. It will play into the overall Democratic narrative of “too erratic and radical to be trusted with government” narrative.

Im pretty sure theres no "strategy". Even if there was one, Trump would never follow it. He just tries to get the crowds in front of him all riled up and get the applause he wants and says stupid things.
Then when the media report on it he says he a victim and some people say he's "brilliant".
I wouldnt trust this guy with my grocery list. He would come back from the store empty handed and claim I never gave him my grocery list. After pressing he would say the store didnt have any groceries. After pressing more he would say all the groceries were junk etc.

Look at my hands. They’re fine. Nobody other than Graydon Carter years ago used to use that. My hands are normal hands. During a debate, he was losing, and he said, “Oh, he has small hands and therefore, you know what that means.” This was not me. This was Rubio that said, “He has small hands and you know what that means.” Okay? So, he started it. So, what I said a couple of days later … and what happened is I was on line shaking hands with supporters, and one of supporters got up and he said, “Mr. Trump, you have strong hands. You have good-sized hands.” And then another one would say, “You have great hands, Mr. Trump, I had no idea.” I said, “What do you mean?” He said, “I thought you were like deformed, and I thought you had small hands.” I had fifty people … Is that a correct statement? I mean people were writing, “How are Mr. Trump’s hands?” My hands are fine. You know, my hands are normal. Slightly large, actually. In fact, I buy a slightly smaller than large glove, okay? No, but I did this because everybody was saying to me, “Oh, your hands are very nice. They are normal.” So Rubio, in a debate, said, because he had nothing else to say … now I was hitting him pretty hard. He wanted to do his Don Rickles stuff and it didn’t work out. Obviously, it didn’t work too well. But one of the things he said was “He has small hands and therefore, you know what that means, he has small something else.” You can look it up. I didn’t say it.

The State of the Clinton-Trump Race: Is It Over?
Her national lead over Donald J. Trump (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/us/elections/donald-trump-on-the-issues.html?inline=nyt-per) of seven (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/us/elections/polls.html) to eight (http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/2016-general-election-trump-vs-clinton) percentage points could slip a bit over the next few weeks. But it has been long enough that much of her expected convention “bounce” should have faded. It leaves Mr. Trump in an unenviable position:
No modern candidate who has trailed by this much a few weeks after the conventions has gone on to win the presidency.
On that basis, you can expect a wave of articles about how the presidential race is basically “over.”
That’s probably a bit too strong, at least from a historical point of view.
The Upshot’s model gives Mrs. Clinton an 88 percent chance of winning.
It’s about the same probability of hitting a field goal from the 20-yard line.
The possibility of a landslide victory for Mrs. Clinton — one larger than any since 1984 in the national popular vote — is larger than the chance that Mr. Trump will pull it out.
Mrs. Clinton’s gains have proved relatively durable in part because they’ve come from Democratic-leaning voters who seem unlikely to defect to Mr. Trump.
Recent polls have shown her with the support of up to 90 percent of Bernie Sanders’s supporters, and more than 90 percent of Democrats.

As previously noted, Trump has more than ten times the number of people at his campaign events than Hillary has at hers since August 1st. More than 100,000 people have shown up for Trump events since the beginning of August (with many more turned away due to the events reaching capacity). Hillary on the other hand hasn’t even had one tenth of that or not even 10,000 show up at her events since August 1st.

That just doesn't work in a presidency, where you have millions of employees, or a campaign which is also pretty large scale. (edit) He seems unable to grasp this very basic thing.(/edit)
You can't blame media bias, or skewed polls for that, rmt. That is ALL on him, and he is flailing badly, and looks set to lose in a landslide of historic proportions to the single most unpopular Democratic national candidate in the modern era.
When will you stop giving him a pass for failing?
I am not giving him any pass on how he's managing his campaign. He's crazy to be campaigning in CT. He can't keep his mouth shut. It's like he feels he must entertain at these rallies and in order to do that, he says more and more outrageous things. But the media does blow his words up out of proportion. If he blatantly lied like Hillary did with Wallace about Comey and the emails, he'd get crucified by the media. She - barely a blip. This is a race where the lower the profile, the better. She got baited about lack of press conference, answered two questions and got herself into trouble. Imagine if she talked the amount of (unscripted) times he does. I expect her to not say anything that's not scripted from now till the election. What got him attention and won him the nomination is working against him in the general election - if this election is about him, he loses which is stupid on his part because there is lots of ammunition with what is wrong with this country.
He needs to only talk policy - how bad the economy is - low GDP, low worker productivity, low home ownership - it's the economy, stupid and national security/ISIS/ME. She cannot defend these topics and they are the 2 topics that worry Americans most. Oh, and Obamacare and the increase in premiums. Shut up about anything personal or anything else. His only hope now is devastating news in released emails and that might not even matter - I fear people are getting email fatigue - it's already baked in. Nothing he SAYS is as bad as all the stuff that she's DONE and will the media follow up on her - nope - look at NYT and Mannafort/Russia - why aren't they looking into Cheryl Mills and the Clinton Foundation?
And I don't recall saying anything about skewed polls - I helped out with some math in one particular poll that was over-represented, but I didn't bring the topic up.
And lest you think that I've given up on Trump - I haven't. IMO, his policies are what could possibly get us out of this financial mess (and yes, I know there are those of you who don't think we're in one). The way this country is going with socialism and the thought of free this and free that and that we can tax the rich to pay for it all - well, the rich are not stupid and they have many more options and choices than the rest of us (like leaving the country) - sooner or later, other people's money will run out (or leave) and what happens then - Venezuela? Do you think we can indefinitely support all these illegals coming in, all the seniors, all the unemployed?
But take heart, I don't think that Hillary is the ideologue that Obama is. She cares only for herself and hers - so there's the chance that she won't even pursue any of the things she's promised - maybe she'll keep busy enriching the Clinton Foundation for 4-8 years and retire to her and Bill's speaking engagements.

And yet he is getting hammered in popular vote polling. Shall we revisit it again?

You can parrot him about the economy if it makes you feel better but considering the POTUS came in with the worst economic downturn in 80 years and 7 out of the last 8 quarters have seen growth your whinging about the economy is not getting traction amongst independents and the opposition. Unemployment has been dropping and if you think either oligarch is going to do anything about the rich poor gap then you are delusional.

GOP Obsession With Austerity Is to Blame for Sluggish Economic Recovery
New analysis provides opportunity to challenge austerity policies 'directly, unambiguously, and fearlessly'
Fiscal austerity in the wake of the Great Recession—imposed by Republicans on the federal, state, and local levels—is responsible for the sluggish pace of economic recovery since 2009, states a new paper (http://www.epi.org/publication/why-is-recovery-taking-so-long-and-who-is-to-blame) that undercuts conservative attempts to pin the blame on President Barack Obama.
"By far the biggest drag on growth throughout the recovery from the Great Recession has been the fiscal policy forced upon us by Republican lawmakers in Congress and austerity-minded state legislatures and governors," wrote Josh Bivens of the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), which put out the analysis on Thursday.
Because the "ability of conventional monetary policy to spur recovery following the Great Recession was more limited than in any other post-war recovery," Bivens explained, increases in government spending and federal aid to states were necessary to help working Americans following the recession that began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009.
Given the degree of damage inflicted by the Great Recession and the restricted ability of monetary policy to aid recovery, historically expansionary fiscal policy was required to return the U.S. economy to full health," said Bivens, who is EPI's research and policy director.
"But this government spending not only failed to rise fast enough to spur a rapid recovery, it outright contracted, and this policy choice fully explains why the economy is only partially recovered from the Great Recession a full seven years after its official end."
s he said.
(In fact, even the stimulus measures that were enacted were criticized (http://www.commondreams.org/views/2010/11/05/failure-enact-bigger-stimulus-was-fatal-mistake) at the time as too small (http://www.commondreams.org/views/2009/04/21/more-fiscal-stimulus-needed-reverse-economic-decline) to make a real difference (http://www.commondreams.org/views/2009/06/02/economic-recovery-wishful-thinking).)
As the Guardian notes (https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/aug/11/us-economy-recession-republicans-hillary-clinton-policy), "[t]he report comes as the Republican party once again calls for the reining in of government spending and reductions in the deficit."
But, while it's clear that "Republicans remain steadfast in their opposition to government spending—even for government jobs like teaching, firefighting, and emergency management," Campaign for America's Future blogger Richard Eskow notes (https://ourfuture.org/20160812/the-fiscal-myth-thats-killing-the-economy-in-7-steps) that "a lot of Democrats have bought into the myth, too."
Indeed, he wrote on Friday, "[t]here are strong hints of austerity-oriented thinking in Hillary Clinton's rhetoric,"

Trump gets killed for what he SAYS (sometimes deservedly so). Hillary gets a pass on what she DOES. Whatever happened to actions speak louder than words.
You're gonna blame the media for this instead of your candidate's stupidity? Seriously, he's on his way to getting destroyed in the election and costing his party many seats in the house and senate.

BTW its not 'free.' We pay taxes remember? The notion that free market can handle things like infrastructure, health care, education, and mass transit at a reasonable cost is empirically false.
Pardon me, if I don't think that 0.8 and 1.2 GDP in the last 2 quarters is as great as you do. Go ahead and believe that unemployment is dropping when people have just given up. How do you explain the labor participation rate? Do you really think that everyone who wants a job has one and hasn't just given up (or aren't working 2 or 3 part times ones)?
You are the one who isn't paying attention. What does the FBI have to do with this? I was talking about the media (specifically about NYT) and how they cover Trump as opposed to Hillary. I know it's not free stuff - but isn't it being sold as "free" and that we're gonna tax those evil rich people and corporations to pay for it. But guess what, it's those evil rich people and corporations who create jobs - jobs that we so desperately need. And if you tax them severely to pay for healthcare, college tuition, parental leave, etc - do you think they are going to invest in new equipment to improve worker productivity, create new jobs, etc?
And we'll just have to disagree on whether the government can do infrastructure, healthcare, education and transit as cheaply/efficiently as the private sector. Look at this mess we're in with Obamacare when yes, Obama and the democrats, do something about healthcare. Soon the premiums/deductibles/copays will be so high that the young and middle class will not be able to afford it, will drop out and then instead of poor people being the ones without health care, it'll be the young and middle class who'll still be helping to fund it with their penalties and getting nothing in return. All those billions wasting on the website, advertising, help desk, operators, etc could have gone to helping those with major health problems and left the rest of the country able to buy what they want/need (mostly catastrophic insurance to cover major incidents) instead of coverage we don't want or need.
You're gonna blame the media for this instead of your candidate's stupidity? Seriously, he's on his way to getting destroyed in the election and costing his party many seats in the house and senate.
Maybe you missed the part where I said "sometimes deservedly so"? LOL - if you think the media's coverage of Trump and Hillary are equally fair.
You continue to harp on the low GDP growth, and while it has been depressed since the Great recession, you have to look at it in the context of other industrialized countries. What you'll find is that it is in-line with or better than most.
This is my primary issue with your posts RMT...you take the latest GOP talking point, repeat it ad nauseam without any critical analysis. If it's anti Obama or anti democrat, it's gospel to RMT.
Pardon me, if I don't want to go down the road that the other industrialized countries are going - overrun with migrants, very susceptible to terrorism, negative interest rates, huge pension and retiree obligations, etc.
http://www.wsj.com/articles/europe-faces-pension-predicament-1457287588
Illinois (iirc) faces less than 50% pension funded ratio but I guess when the fan hits the ceiling, some can just move to other states - the people from other industrialized countries - not so much.
I guess you'd rather hear from the democrats how rosy the economy is instead of the doom and gloom from the GOP/Trump. You can go ahead and believe the promises that Hillary is spouting - believe that we can have "free" healthcare, college tuition and parental leave. I'll continue to believe that we can't even afford what we already have - SS, Medicare, Medicaid and servicing our $19.4+ trillion debt.

An Open Letter to Reince Priebus, Chairman, Republican National Committee
In every election cycle, the Republican National Committee (RNC) must make difficult decisions in the closing months about where to allocate its limited resources – money, time, staff, and ads – to ensure the best possible opportunities for the Party’s success. Given the catastrophic impact that Donald Trump’s losing presidential campaign will have on down-ballot Senate and House races, we urge you to immediately suspend all discretionary RNC support for Trump and focus the entirety of the RNC’s available resources on preserving the GOP’s congressional majorities.
The signatories to this letter have been involved with Republican politics at the local, state, and national levels for more than three decades. We have served as past and current elected officials and as staffers for the RNC; appointees in every Republican administration since President Reagan; advisors on the last nine GOP presidential campaigns; aides on leadership, personal, and committee staff in both the House and Senate; grassroots workers; and delegates to multiple GOP conventions.
We believe that Donald Trump’s divisiveness, recklessness, incompetence, and record-breaking unpopularity risk turning this election into a Democratic landslide, and only the immediate shift of all available RNC resources to vulnerable Senate and House races will prevent the GOP from drowning with a Trump-emblazoned anchor around its neck. This should not be a difficult decision, as Donald Trump’s chances of being elected president are evaporating by the day. Since the GOP convention, less than a month ago, he has alienated millions of voters of all parties by:
• Attacking Gold Star families of soldiers who died serving their country;
• Urging a hostile foreign government to intervene in a U.S. election;
• Suggesting that gun owners take action against his opponent if she is elected;
• Repudiating our NATO treaty obligations to protect our allies;
• Reportedly expressing interest in the preemptive use of nuclear weapons;
• Exposing his total ignorance of basic foreign policy matters;
• Stating his admiration for violent foreign autocrats;
• Refusing to disclose any of his past taxes, including those not under audit; and
• Deliberately and repeatedly lying about scores of issues, large and small.
Those recent outrages have built on his campaign of anger and exclusion, during which he has mocked and offended millions of voters, including the disabled, women, Muslims, immigrants, and minorities. He also has shown dangerous authoritarian tendencies, including threats to ban an entire religion from entering the country, order the military to break the law by torturing prisoners, kill the families of suspected terrorists, track law-abiding Muslim citizens in databases, and use executive orders to implement other illegal and unconstitutional measures.
Those disqualifying elements of Trump’s personality and positions are reflected in his plummeting support. As respected polling analyst Nate Silver recently wrote, “recent Fox News, Marist College and NBC News/Wall Street Journal national polls show Trump trailing Clinton by 9 to 14 percentage points, margins that would make for the largest general election blowout since 1984 if they held.”
Commenting on the Marist poll, The Washington Post said, “Those numbers are, to put it bluntly, shocking. Mitt Romney was never down by that much to President Obama in 2012; his worst poll was a survey in June from Bloomberg that had him down 13, with 40 percent of the vote.” On Clinton’s seven-point lead in the overall polling average, the article continued, “Relative to Election Day in 2004, 2008 and 2012, Clinton's lead is more than twice that of the eventual victor at this point. “
According to Silver, whose analysis correctly picked 49 of the 50 states in the 2008 presidential election and all 50 states in 2012, current polling gives Trump barely a 11 percent chance of being elected president in November. That polling projects a potential 365 electoral vote blowout for Hillary Clinton, including a sweep of every battleground state from Florida to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Virginia, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, and North Carolina. Trump’s across-the-board collapse has put even Republican bastions like Georgia and Arizona in play
As you know, there are very rarely large shifts in support at this late stage in a presidential election cycle, particularly with two candidates as well known to the public as the current nominees.
Beyond Trump’s likely electoral failure, his actions toward his fellow Republicans should disqualify him from receiving any further support. Since winning the primaries, Trump has claimed he wants to unify the party but instead has doubled down on vicious and vengeful attacks on fellow Republicans, including:
• Threatening to set up a super PAC with tens of millions of dollars of his own money to go after Republicans who did not support him;
• Dismissing a GOP Senator who spent more than five years being tortured as a prisoner- of-war as “not a hero;”
• Warning another GOP Senator that he might work against his reelection;
• Calling yet another incumbent Republican Senator a “loser” to his Senate peers;
• Repeating his false and outlandish claims that yet another Senator’s father played some role in the Kennedy assassination;
• Falsely accusing the nation’s first Hispanic woman Governor of “not doing her job;” and
• Refusing to initially endorse the Speaker of the House and at least two Republican Senators, despite their support for his presidential bid.
In summary, every dollar spent by the RNC on Donald Trump’s campaign is a dollar of donor money wasted on the losing effort of a candidate who has actively undermined the GOP at every turn. Rather than throwing good money after bad, the RNC should shift its strategy and its resources to convince voters not to give Hillary Clinton the “blank check” of a Democrat controlled Congress to advance her big government agenda.
Signing an appeal such as this is not easy for any of us. But in our view, Trump’s divisive and dangerous actions are not only a threat to our other candidates, but to our Party and the nation. Only swift and decisive action can save the Republican Party and protect the hundreds of other GOP candidates running for office. We urge the RNC to immediately halt all support for Donald Trump and invest its resources in a real and winnable campaign to save the Republican Senate and House.
:lol

Paul Manafort doesn’t care who writes his checks
Even the most brutal dictators and the bloodiest warlords could benefit from having a friendly public-relations operative in Washington. Access to high-ranking officials goes a long way in the nation’s capital.
There’s always somebody willing to take on the vilest of clients — and one of those somebodies is Paul Manafort, Donald Trump’s new campaign manager.
Manafort has worked on behalf of
an Angolan warlord,
a Lebanese arms-dealer,
the Pakistani spy agency that went on to create the Taliban,
the Putin-aligned president of Ukraine and
a who’s-who of 1980s dictators.
He helped enrich clients who left trails of death and destruction in their wakes.

Explosive growth is not sustainable. It is why there have been bubbles that have burst in increasingly devastating fashion for each of the last 3 decades.
What about Trump is not being covered? The problem is that they Trump campaign has no money because he pissed off his party's money people just like he did the US banks that won't give him a line of credit. I still find it hard to believe GOP supporters were stupid enough to choose Trump as their nominee. They were playing the short game and not the long game. How in their right mind did they think Trump's bullshit was going to work in the general election? Kasich should have been their guy even if he had Ohio's Medicaid expansion hanging around his neck taking away his "extreme" card. Out of all of the GOP candidates he's the one who would be absolutely cleaning Hillary's clock right now in the general election. He's a straight shooter type, has a good temperament and I think independents would probably like that he compromised and expanded Medicaid in his state. Ohio would have been off the table for Democrats since he's popular. He probably could have stolen quite a few Bernie holdouts as well. And unlike Trump I don't think Kasich would be doing or saying anything batshit stupid to overshadow all of Hillary's e-mail issues so the news cycle would have been all about her trustworthy problems.

I'm not surprised that the GOP electorate bought into it. They take things on faith and ate up hearing what they wanted to hear. You're right that it's stupid but that is besides the point. Faith makes you stupid.
Trump doesn't surprise me either. He's a classic narcissist and it's not enough for him to win. He wants to be the center of it all and it chafes for him to see anyone else dominating the news cycle. It's not like he has impulse control.

Marco Rubio’s line on Trump still needs work
http://www.msnbc.com/sites/msnbc/files/styles/ratio--3-2--1_5x-1245x830/public/ap_732046061428_copy.jpg?itok=fMT45nyb
The comments generally aren’t sincere, but it’s the script candidates read, not only in the name of party unity, but also to help justify a post-primary endorsement.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) may not (http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/election/marco-rubio/article95752532.html) fully understand this.
In the heat of the Republican presidential primary, Marco Rubio called Donald Trump a “con man.” And he doesn’t take it back. “I’ve stood by everything I ever said in my campaign,” Rubio told the Miami Herald editorial board Monday.
But Rubio still supports Trump for president.
During the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Rubio was quite candid in his condemnations of Trump.
The Floridian referred to Trump as a “lunatic” and a “con man.”
Rubio’s campaign, quite literally, sold #NeverTrump swag (http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/will-party-trump-principle-marco-rubio) on its website.
The senator told audiences that Trump might urinate on himself, mocked Trump’s hair and face, and even made vulgar jokes about Trump’s genitals.
In one especially memorable moment, Rubio insisted Trump cannot be trusted with the nation’s nuclear codes (http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2016/05/10/marco_rubio_will_support_trump_but_still_doesn_t_t hink_he_should_have_nuclear.html).
The GOP senator has had multiple opportunities to walk all of this back, and chalk it up to overheated campaign rhetoric, but Rubio doesn’t want to do that. On the contrary, he keeps saying that he “stands by everything” he said while condemning Trump’s fitness for office.

Pardon me, if I don't want to go down the road that the other industrialized countries are going - overrun with migrants, very susceptible to terrorism, negative interest rates, huge pension and retiree obligations, etc.
I wasn't suggesting we need to "go down the road that other industrialized countries are going". the point was, when looking at GDP growth as a performance indicator, a person who applied critical thinking skills would analyze it a a macro level. How is the US GDP growth rate as compared to other industrialized nations.
I guess you'd rather hear from the democrats how rosy the economy is instead of the doom and gloom from the GOP/Trump.
I don't think the Democrats are suggesting the economy is rosy. They're simply pointing to real progress and proposing new policy to continue/speed up the progress that's been made.
You can go ahead and believe the promises that Hillary is spouting - believe that we can have "free" healthcare, college tuition and parental leave. I'll continue to believe that we can't even afford what we already have - SS, Medicare, Medicaid and servicing our $19.4+ trillion debt.
If you believe that we can't even afford what we already have why are you voting for a candidate that is proposing across the board tax cut that every non-partisan economist agrees will increase federal deficits and national debt over the next decade.

Also it would help if you held the rally at an actual county that is predominantly black. I heard a commentator say that where he gave the rally was an all white district with only 1% of African American.

Trump campaign undergoes (another) major staff shake-up
In April, in the face of broad criticisms about his campaign’s direction, Donald Trump shook up (http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/team-trump-takes-big-risk-staff-shakeup) his leadership team and implemented a “massive restructuring (http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/trump-campaign-undergoes-major-reorganization-amid-delegate-fight).”
Two months later, in June, the Republican presidential candidate made another major staffing change (http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/donald-trump-ousts-campaign-manager-corey-lewandowski), ousting campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.
And now, two months after that, facing long odds of success, Team Trump is once again undergoing an overhaul (http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/donald-trump-hands-kellyanne-conway-stephen-bannon-new-roles-campaign-n632471).
Donald Trump is shaking up his campaign’s leadership amid flagging poll numbers, NBC News has learned.
Kellyanne Conway – already a senior adviser to the campaign – told NBC News she has been promoted to the role of campaign manager.
She confirmed that Paul Manafort will stay on as campaign chair but said Stephen Bannon, the co-founder of conservative Breitbart News, :lol will come on board as campaign CEO.
The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the staffing changes, said (http://www.wsj.com/articles/donald-trump-overhauls-campaign-team-1471424401) Manafort will stay on, though his power will clearly be diminished.
The Washington Post’s report (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/08/17/trump-reshuffles-staff-in-his-own-image/) added, “Trump’s stunning decision effectively ended the months-long push by campaign chairman Paul Manafort to moderate Trump’s presentation and pitch for the general election.”

Clinton may be sleaze when it comes to business cover ups. Donald is right there with her.
I was intrigued by Trash when he 1st started running. Hearing the details of Trump University and now his ongoing dalliances with Fat Bastard....
Pretty sure the Clinton attack ads are gonna be featuring some of this:
Trump Casinos’ Tax Debt Was $30 Million. Then Chris Christie Took Office.
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-casinos%E2%80%99-tax-debt-was-dollar30-million-then-chris-christie-took-office/ar-BBvHIH3?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp
Some cliffs: Trash spouts about how "we" (US taxpayers) are getting ripped by Mexico and China.
How did the taxpayers of New Jersey fair with Trash and the 30 million his casinos owed?
But the year after Governor Christie, a Republican, took office, the tone of the litigation shifted. The state entertained settlement offers. And in December 2011, after six years in court, the state agreed to accept just $5 million, roughly 17 cents on the dollar of what auditors said the casinos owed.
The Times discovered the agreement during a review of the thousands of documents filed in the bankruptcies of Mr. Trump’s casinos. The taxes went unpaid from 2002 through 2006, during which time Mr. Trump was leading the company as chairman and, until 2005, as its chief executive. He reaped millions of dollars in fees and bonuses from the company, even as it underperformed competitors, lost money every year and saw its stock collapse.
After the Trump casinos filed for bankruptcy protection in 2004 for the third time, state officials noticed the company had not been filling out the required schedule for the minimum tax assessment. The Trump casinos had reported losing money and paid a little more than $600,000 in state income taxes in 2002, and only $1,500 in 2003. State auditors determined the Trump casinos should have paid $8.8 million in alternative minimum taxes for those two years, according to court records.
