Donald Trump Is Very Upset That The Media And American People Are Mocking Him

Spicer moaned about Trump not getting the respect that he deserves from the press,

“There’s some positive aspects here and there, :lol

but largely it still continues to not treat him with the respect that he deserves. :lol

I think for a lot of folks inside the beltway, and inside pundit-world, they don’t fully appreciate the understanding that he has of where the American people are. :lol

They continue to mock him in ways, when it frankly just shows the lack of understanding :lol

of that they have of where the American people are and what they think.”

"Everything he does right now ... everyone starts to mock him" :lol

What’s obvious is that

Trump is sending his press secretary out to do interviews complaining about the mocking and lack of respect, because it bothers him.

The majority of Americans who didn’t vote for Trump aren’t going to bow down to him.The more Trump or his staff complains, the more they will be mocked.

libcucks at the WSJ pile on:

The debts of President-elect Donald Trump and his businesses are scattered across Wall Street banks, mutual funds and other financial institutions, broadening the tangle of interests that pose potential conflicts for the incoming president’s administration.

Hundreds of millions of dollars of debt attached to Mr. Trump’s properties, some of them backed by Mr. Trump’s personal guarantee, were packaged into securities and sold to investors over the past five years, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of legal and property documents.

Mr. Trump has previously disclosed that his businesses owe at least $315 million to 10 companies. According to the Journal’s analysis, Trump businesses’ debts are held by more than 150 institutions. They bought the debt after it was sliced up and repackaged into bonds—a process known as securitization, which has been used for more than $1 billion of debt connected to Mr. Trump’s companies.

As a result, a broader array of financial institutions now are in a potentially powerful position over the incoming president. If the Trump businesses were to default on their debts, the giant financial institutions that serve as so-called special servicers of these loan pools would have the power to foreclose on some of Mr. Trump’s marquee properties or seek the tens of millions of dollars that Mr. Trump personally guaranteed on the loans.

“The problem with any of this debt is if something goes wrong, and if there is a situation where the president is suddenly personally beholden or vulnerable to threats from the lenders,” said Trevor Potter, who served as a general counsel to the presidential campaigns of Republicans George H.W. Bush and John McCain.

TRUMP URGES SPY AGENCIES TO LAY OFF RUSSIA AND FOCUS ON THREAT POSED BY ACTRESSES

http://www.newyorker.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Borowitz-TrumpUrgesSpyAgenciestoLayOffRussiaandFocusonThrea tPosedbyActresses-600.jpg

NEW YORK — In an emergency meeting at Trump Tower on Monday morning, President-elect Donald J. Trump urged the heads of the nation’s

intelligence agencies to “stop picking on Russia” and instead focus on “the very real threat” posed by Hollywood actresses.

Calling the recent allegations against Russia a “witch hunt,” Trump told the intelligence chiefs that their investigations of Russian President Vladimir Putin were distracting them from “America’s real enemy, actresses.”

Growing increasingly irate, he laid out a series of proposals for dealing with what he called a “scourge,” including

mandatory registration of actresses and a temporary ban on actresses entering the country.
Additionally, he said that

the flow of actresses could be “cut off at the source” by having F.B.I. agents infiltrate improv classes.

“Nothing should be taken off the table,” Trump reportedly said.

The President-elect also complained that, under President Barack Obama, actresses have been allowed to operate with impunity.

“Barack Obama is basically the founder of actresses,”

he said.

Robert Reich: 15 warning signs of impending Trump tyranny

As tyrants take control of democracies, they typically:

1. Exaggerate their mandate to govern — claiming, for example, that they won an election by a landslide (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.npr.org%2F2016%2F12%2F 11%2F505182622%2Ffact-check-trump-claims-a-massive-landslide-victory-but-history-differs&t=OTViYzEzN2Q4N2EzZmNhNGFmOTEyOTViY2RiMDRhYTFiODM1 MmUwMSw1S1gzYkRSNQ%3D%3D&b=t%3AhQ9Ds4P3Iv6D7mgEr8WMqg&p=http%3A%2F%2Frobertreich.org%2Fpost%2F1553192641 60&m=1) even after losing the popular vote.

2. Repeatedly claim massive voter (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.politico.com%2Fstory%2 F2016%2F11%2Ftrump-illegal-voting-clinton-231860&t=MGE5M2VkODE0YTA4NzQ3ZTE3ZDMyMTcwNTY2NTE5ZjBjNzZl YjUxZSw1S1gzYkRSNQ%3D%3D&b=t%3AhQ9Ds4P3Iv6D7mgEr8WMqg&p=http%3A%2F%2Frobertreich.org%2Fpost%2F1553192641 60&m=1) fraud in the absence of any evidence, in order to restrict voting in subsequent elections.

3. Call anyone who opposes them “enemies (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.politicususa.com%2F201 6%2F12%2F31%2Ftrump-calls-majority-voted-enemies-losers-years-message.html&t=MDEwN2RiNmJlMzM2ZWU0N2ZjZTYxMGRkZTI4Y2U0OGU1MGY2 YTYzMiw1S1gzYkRSNQ%3D%3D&b=t%3AhQ9Ds4P3Iv6D7mgEr8WMqg&p=http%3A%2F%2Frobertreich.org%2Fpost%2F1553192641 60&m=1).”

4. Turn the public against journalists or media outlets that criticize them, calling them “deceitful (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fedition.cnn.com%2F2016%2F0 5%2F31%2Fpolitics%2Fdonald-trump-veterans-announcement%2F&t=Y2YyNGRlNDYzNWQ3MWZlNTcwYmZiYmI4MGIwNzExMjIwNTc0 Y2I2NSw1S1gzYkRSNQ%3D%3D&b=t%3AhQ9Ds4P3Iv6D7mgEr8WMqg&p=http%3A%2F%2Frobertreich.org%2Fpost%2F1553192641 60&m=1)” and “scum (http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fedition.cnn.com%2F2016%2F0 5%2F31%2Fpolitics%2Fdonald-trump-veterans-announcement%2F&t=Y2YyNGRlNDYzNWQ3MWZlNTcwYmZiYmI4MGIwNzExMjIwNTc0 Y2I2NSw1S1gzYkRSNQ%3D%3D&b=t%3AhQ9Ds4P3Iv6D7mgEr8WMqg&p=http%3A%2F%2Frobertreich.org%2Fpost%2F1553192641 60&m=1).”

The conflicts of interest Donald Trump recently canceled added up to less than $400,000

The president-elect has canceled business contracts to avoid the appearance of conflict, but he hasn't made a dent

When confronted about his numerous conflicts-of-interest, President-elect Donald Trump’s business organization likes to tout how he has withdrawn from contracts to address that problem. Despite having a $3 billion company, however, Trump’s canceled contracts amount to less than $400,000.

The combined revenue generated by the projects from which Trump has so far withdrawn amounts to only $323,150 for 2015 and the first half of 2016, according to a Bloomberg report on Monday (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-01-09/trump-s-canceled-overseas-projects-brought-in-a-mere-323-150). The report was based on Trump’s own financial disclosure forms filed with the Federal Election Commission in May.

Trump’s projects included branding opportunities for building in Argentina, Azerbaijan, Brazil and Georgia. The Argentine project lacked the necessary permits, the Azerbaijani building contained a partner with family ties to that country’s government, the Brazilian project was the subject of a criminal probe, and the Georgian project has stalled due to internal political conditions in that former Soviet republic.

Why Jared Kushner’s conflicts of interest matter

Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, is all but running foreign policy during Trump’s transition to the Oval Office, while also serving as CEO of his family business and doing deals with a companies closely tied to the Chinese government.

A New York Times report (http://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/07/us/politics/jared-kushner-trump-business.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news) on Kushner’s conflicts of interest makes clear that they’re at least as numerous and complex as those of his father-in-law, the future president. Kushner has a loan from an Israeli bank under Justice Department investigation. He does business with a Chinese company that the Obama administration has blocked from acquiring some American hotels out of security concerns. Investors in some of his projects have benefited from a federal program that hands out US visas in exchange for hefty investments in American companies.

Even if Kushner were just Trump’s son-in-law, this would be troubling: Trump will have authority over a wide range of federal programs and regulators that could affect Kushner’s business. But Kushner is much more than just a relative. He’s a trusted adviser, serving as a go-between for the president-elect on foreign policy and laying the groundwork for a role in the White House.
The report on Kushner makes clear the Trump administration’s conflicts of interest reach far beyond Trump himself, whose business ties already create an unprecedented way for foreign governments and special interests to try to bribe the president.

a series of studies by the Financial Times (https://www.ft.com/) to show how funds from Russian crime lords bailed Trump out after yet anther bankruptcy. The conclusions are stark. (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C1vHUNPXUAEKZWP.jpg)

Among the powerful facts that DNI missed were a series of very deep studies published in the [Financial Times] that examined

the structure and history of several major Trump real estate projects from the last decade—

the period after his seventh bankruptcy and the cancellation of all his bank lines of credit. ...

The money to build these projects flowed almost entirely from Russian sources.

In other words, after his business crashed,

Trump was floated and made to appear to operate a successful business enterprise through the infusion of hundreds in millions of cash from dark Russian sources.

He was their man.

RUSSIA BANS MERYL STREEP MOVIES

http://www.newyorker.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Borowitz-Streep-Putin-1200.jpg
MOSCOW — In a sweeping act of official censorship, the Russian government has banned all Meryl Streep movies from the country, effective immediately.

Moviegoers at Moscow’s Kinoteatr 16 movieplex were taken aback on Monday night when government agents stormed the projection booth and seized a copy of “Florence Foster Jenkins,” the 2016 Streep film that was unspooling.

But the full force of the ban was not felt until Tuesday morning, when

the Ministry of Internal Affairs ordered police to go door to door, confiscating Streep DVDs from Russian citizens.

“I was terrified,” Vasily Dmitrovic, who lives in St. Petersburg, said.

“They broke down my door. My wife was screaming. They would not leave until I handed over ‘Mamma Mia!’ ”

In an appearance on state television, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered no reason for the ban, other than to say that Streep was “overrated.”

Lawmakers broach possible Trump campaign coordination with Russia

Members of Congress made clear Tuesday they're increasingly willing to broach a taboo topic: possible coordination between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

The subject is one lawmakers have largely avoided discussing since the presidential election, even as anti-Trump advocacy groups have sounded alarm bells about the president-elect.

But that changed Tuesday, during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Russia's meddling in November's election.

The hearing followed Friday's release of an unclassified version of an intelligence community investigation into Russia's interference in the election, which said Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence operation to undermine Hillary Clinton and help Trump.

During the intelligence hearing, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) noted the extensive ties between Trump advisers and the Russian government and pointed to an interview shortly after the election in which a top Russian diplomat said his government had had "contacts" with the Trump campaign.

Wyden then asked FBI Director James Comey, "Has the FBI investigated these reported relationships, and, if so, what are the agency's findings?"

Comey refused to confirm or deny the existence of an investigation, saying he could not comment publicly about such matters. His response raised some eyebrows among Democrats and led to a biting response from Sen. Angus King (I-Maine): "The irony of your making that statement here, I cannot avoid, but I'll move on."

"I would never comment on investigations, whether we have one or not, in an open forum like this," Comey said Tuesday. "So I really can't answer it one way or another."

On Sunday, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham also discussed the possibility of an investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia, suggesting that a probe might already be underway.

Asked about the possibility of a probe on NBC's "Meet the Press," the South Carolina senator said: "I believe that it's happening. But you need to talk to them because I don't want to speak for them."

"Whether Trump's pandering to Putin is a result of Trump's potential ties to Russian investors, impending business deals, or simply gratitude for Russia's hacking on his behalf — it's clear that Trump for some reason feels beholden to Putin," said the group's president, Jessica Mackler.

"It's a disgrace that Republicans are capitulating to Trump and standing by Trump's attacks on the U.S. intelligence community and defense of Putin."

A number of Trump advisers have connections to Russia.

The president-elect's pick for secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, built strong relationships with Kremlin officials during his tenure as CEO of ExxonMobil, which has sought make inroads in Russia and has lobbied against U.S. sanctions against the country.

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, set to become Trump's national security adviser, was photographed sitting next to Putin at a 2015 event in Moscow celebrating RT, the news network funded by the Russian government that the U.S. intelligence community says was a major source of anti-Clinton propaganda.

And Paul Manafort, a former chairman of the Trump campaign, did some lobbying work for pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine.

Trash again proves he is a total fraud

Trump packed news conference with paid staffers to cheer and jeer as he bashed reporters

several of those attendees were actually paid staffers, who joined the news conference to provide moral support to the president-elect, Politico reports (http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/trump-press-conference-paid-staffers-media-233496).

The paid staffers, alongs with his children and Mike Pence, bolstered Trump as he bashed the media and intelligence communities.

At one point attendees shouted “no!” when the president-elect rhetorically asked, “do you honestly believe that Hillary Clinton would be tougher on Putin than me?”

Politico also reports the staffers cheered when Trump jeered at a reporter asking about his tax returns.

“The only ones who care about my tax returns are the reporters,” Trump insisted, to his supporters’ delight.

Donald Trump’s Made-for-TV Promises

If anyone still held out hope that the

awesome responsibilities and dignity of the presidency might temper or even humble Donald Trump, :lol

there was a shock from his first news conference as president-elect, on Wednesday.

Bombastic, vain and slippery,

Mr. Trump played the same small-screen character he has offered the viewing public for years.

Presenting himself as the

leader of “a movement like the world has never seen before,” :lol (ignorant clown, leader of 60M conned, duped, lied to fools)

he offered no olive branch to the majority of American voters who opposed him. :lol another Repug UNITER! :lol

He displayed only petulance and braggadocio in response to issues that dogged him during the campaign.

On suggestions that he had business dealings with Russia: “I tweeted out that I have no dealings with Russia.” :lol

He ducked and dodged when reporters asked whether he or members of his staff colluded with Russia before the election — one of the most explosive of the charges swirling around him.

On his promise to reveal his tax returns, which could prove he has no financial or business ties to Russia: “I’m not releasing the tax returns because as you know, they’re under audit.” He added, “You know,

the only one that cares about my tax returns are the reporters, O.K.?” :lol grammar from the illiterate ignoramus

On whether he would maintain sanctions on Russia, for its hacking of the presidential election:

“If Putin likes Donald Trump, guess what, folks? That’s called an asset.” :lol yep, an asset for Putin :lol

On the economy: “I will be the greatest jobs producer that God ever created.” :lol LIE Repugs/BigCorp/VRWC destroy jobs

Mr. Trump spoke while standing next to piles of manila folders, :lol they were EMPTY! :lol

.. props representing his decision to turn management of his business interests over to his adult sons. That half measure will not dispel suspicions about his hidden conflicts as president.

By not divesting his businesses,

Mr. Trump invites corruption by signaling that corporations and foreign actors have many ways to curry favor with him and his administration through his family.

He emphasized that, in his view, he wasn’t legally required to do a thing, presenting his largely symbolic measures as a high-minded sacrifice to the public interest. He bragged that over the weekend he had been offered $2 billion “to do a deal in Dubai,” adding, “

I didn’t have to turn it down, because as you know, I have a no-conflict situation because I’m president, which is — I didn’t know about that until about three months ago, but it’s a nice thing to have.” :lol ignorant fuck

Like the rest of Mr. Trump’s plan, ignores what government ethics officials told Mr. Trump’s lawyers: The only way to avoid conflict-of-interest charges is to sell off his businesses and put the proceeds into a blind trust.

Mr. Trump closed the news conference with his best “Celebrity Apprentice” scowl.

Of his sons, he said, "If they do a bad job, I’ll say, ‘You’re fired.’”

His staff and supporters applauded, and the show was over.

A message to my doomed colleagues in the American media

Watching Trump’s presser, I had a feeling I’d seen it all before — while covering Vladimir Putin’s annual news conferences.
(https://medium.com/@alexey__kovalev/a-message-to-my-doomed-colleagues-in-the-american-media-6e2e76eeae77?source=email-d66fe34fa2c3-1484310993749-digest.reader------0-3&sectionName=suggested)
Congratulations, US media! You’ve just covered your first press conference of an authoritarian leader with a massive ego and a deep disdain for your trade and everything you hold dear.

We in Russia have been doing it for 12 years now — with a short hiatus when our leader wasn’t technically our leader — so quite a few things during Donald Trump’s press conference rang my bells. Not just mine, in fact — read this excellent round-up (https://themoscowtimes.com/articles/you-thought-this-was-rock-bottom-america-but-the-russians-are-knocking-from-below-56789) in The Moscow Times.

Putin’s pressers are televised live across all Russian TV channels, attended by all kinds of media — federal news agencies, small local publications and foreign reporters based in Moscow — and are supposed to overshadow every other event in Russia or abroad.

These things are carefully choreographed, typically last no less than four hours, and Putin always comes off as an omniscient and benevolent leader tending to a flock of unruly but adoring children.

Given that Putin is probably a role model for Trump, it’s no surprise that he’s apparently taking a page from Putin’s playbook. I have some observations to share with my American colleagues.

You’re in this for at least another four years, and you’ll be dealing with things Russian journalists have endured for almost two decades now. I’m talking about Putin here, but see if you can apply any of the below to your own leader.

Welcome to the era of bullshit.

Facts don’t matter.

You can’t hurt this man with facts or reason.

He’ll always outmaneuver you.

He’ll always wriggle out of whatever carefully crafted verbal trap you lay for him.

Whatever he says, you won’t be able to challenge him.

He always comes with a bag of meaningless factoids (Putin likes to drown questions he doesn’t like in dull, unverifiable stats, figures and percentages), platitudes, false moral equivalences and straight, undiluted bullshit.

He knows it’s a one-way communication, not an interview. You can’t follow up on your questions or challenge him.

So he can throw whatever he wants at you in response, and you’ll just have to swallow it.

Some journalists will try to preempt this by asking two questions at once, against the protests of their colleagues also vying for attention, but that also won’t work: he’ll answer the one he thinks is easier, and ignore the other.

Others will use this opportunity to go on a long, rambling statement vaguely disguised as a question, but that’s also bad tactics.

Non-questions invite non-answers.

He’ll mock you for your nervous stuttering and if you’re raising a serious issue, respond with a vague, non-committal statement

(“Mr President, what about these horrible human rights abuses in our country?” “

Thank you, Miss. This is indeed a very serious issue.

Everybody must respect the law.

And by the way, don’t human rights abuses happen in other countries as well?

Next question please”).

Its close. It was a strange election and a close election.

Sorry.
The nation is very divided. It is a unique time.

The popular vote doesn't mean anything. So Hillary did a great job turning out the vote in California, a place voter turnout didn't matter at all. That's meaningless.

Do you think the Democrats have done anything wise post election to help them regain some power?

So Donald did a great job in Texas. Throw my state out... What you got...

The vote was close.
The nation is clearly divided.
You don't believe this.

The Democrats have whined and griped. 4 years from now they could very well have it thrown back in their lap which would be disturbing based on this election and their utter inability to see that Trump tappped into the same basic idea as Bernie.

Well if the roles were reversed and Trump's huge popular vote lead was entirely accountable to the margin of victory in Texas then yes I would say throw it out. Electoral votes are all that counts and by that measure it wasn't close. If it were just swing states Trump eeked out a victory in then maybe you'd have a better argument but he beat her in blue states that shouldn't have been up for grabs.

Again.

It does not matter which way the votes were supposed to go.

Hillary was supposed to Stomp Donald's buttt. It did not happen, it was close.
Believe what you would like, I think it's pretty clear we have a divided country and had a close election. Lotta people stayed up late. You go to bed early, saw it was clearly wrapped up?

With all the Republicans that are now clinging to Donald in close States, in 4 years the Senate and House could be reversed. IMO this would be troubling. Shit better get done.

Wasn't really that close. It wasn't Bush/Gore. Which is why it's strange Democrats think they are going to gain something by trying to delegitimize Trump's victory. It didn't do anything to help them when they tried it against Dubya and they had a much stronger case then imo.

Historically, not that impressive an EC victory, tbh.

First, Destroy the Federal Workforce?—?Then Rule Like an Autocrat

The bureaucracy is one of the last things standing in Donald Trump’s way

President-elect Donald Trump’s greatest advantage is the fact that he is facing a public and a media that have no framework for understanding him. American politics and journalism long ago suppressed and expelled the people who were equipped to understand exactly what the fuck is going on right now.

Trump and congressional Republicans have effectively ended the federal civil service in the last week or two, and along with erosions of constitutional authority enacted by Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and their immediate predecessors, Trump will very likely have near-autocratic powers almost immediately after he is sworn in next week.

Four specific actions?—?among others?—?have done the most to signal Trump’s shift.

First we have the questionnaires the Trump transition team sent to the U.S. Department of Energy about individuals working on climate change and to the U.S. State Department about who was working on gender equality issues.

Next came the announcement by the Trump team that all Obama-appointed political ambassadors would be terminated on Jan. 20, 2017, no exceptions, regardless of circumstance. they direct official business in the courts of the United States’ closest and oldest allies, making extended vacancies in these posts problematic. Trump has broken with tradition and good sense in issuing a formal “tough shit” to these appointees and the embassies in which they serve.

Third came Trump’s war of words against the CIA, his appointment as national security advisor of a figure that the CIA despised and ran out of town and his refusal to receive regular briefings from the intelligence agencies. The so-called “deep state” is the element of the federal bureaucracy most immune to political change, and Trump is taking it on. If Trump can push around the CIA, what hope does the EPA have?

Finally, in the aftermath of public outrage over the GOP’s attempted evisceration of the Congressional Ethics Office, lawmakers sneaked in a return of the so-called Holman Rule, a 19th-century parliamentary procedure that allows any member of Congress to cut any particular federal position’s salary to $1.

The pushback against the CIA shows that there are no limits to where they will assert their will.

The questionnaires show that they are searching deep within the federal bureaucracy for their political targets.

And the Holman Rule change gives them the weapon with which to strike those targets.

The entire federal bureaucracy will fall in line with Trump’s whims — or it’ll end up on the list of one-buck chumps.

Realistically Trump will get 25% of his platform through legislation, if that. He won't get NAFTA revoked and he won't get import tariffs. He has, however changed the perception and big corps will think twice about moving jobs offshore for fear of a tweet backlash in public relations. If the democrats block vote I don't see any way they get significant tax cuts through because there will be too many republican deficit hawks wanting offsetting revenue. The same argument applies to substantially increasing the military and even 'building the wall". There are Republicans that won't vote for legislation that gives us Trillion dollar deficits. Hell, he may very well not even get a supreme court nomination through. That's gonna take 60 votes in the Senate. We may be stuck with 8 justices for awhile until someone else dies.

The republican's ground game to give them the census, and thus the right to gerrymander, in 2010 was impressive. That doesn't change the fact that when it comes to the most basic of issues, Americans are generally progressive.

I respectfully disagree that Americans are progressive on the issues. The majority of them couldn't care less about racism, sexism, LBGTQ, white male privilege or whatever else ails these SJWs (gee - I've learned so many terms I'd never heard of a year ago). ‘Absolutely payback’: Katrina Pierson claims Trump ‘actually gains’ power by attacking John Lewis

“He attacked Donald Trump!” Pierson told Fox News host Clayton Morris on Sunday. “And Donald Trump also has a First Amendment right to defend himself.

So this criticism is not fair. :lol

And it’s never supposed to be fair for Republicans :lol

because Republicans are supposed to sit down, shut up and be publicly humiliated and never defend themselves.” :lol

“And all that changed with Donald Trump entered the arena,” :lol

she continued. “And he said several times, ‘If you attack me, I will hit you back.’ That’s exactly what happened here.

This is what Democrats do. They pick a fight and they play the victim.” :lol

Pierson insisted that Trump’s attack on Lewis was “absolutely payback” for undermining his legitimacy.

“This doesn’t hurt Donald Trump’s political clout,” Trump’s former national spokesperson opined. “He actually gains, simply because he is someone who is standing up for himself.”

Donald Trump Really Means What He Says—and Plans to Silence and Intimidate Dissenters

Trump took a divide-and-conquer strategy during that press conference. He zeroed in on CNN and BuzzFeed, attacking them as “fake news” for printing reports — reports that are 100 percent true — that a dossier implicating Trump in Russian espionage efforts was presented by intelligence officials to both Trump and President Obama.

He then praised other outlets for not running with the story (though some did), a rather unsubtle effort to turn journalists against one another.

These middle school bully-style tactics worked, Will Oremus at Slate reports (http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2017/01/how_trump_is_manipulating_the_media.html):

BuzzFeed was so anathematized that by presser’s end, fellow journalists were picking up their lunch trays and moving to the other side of the cafeteria.

“I can understand why President-elect Trump would be upset” with BuzzFeed, said CNN’s Jake Tapper, a co-author of the very story that had just been impugned in the press conference.

“I would be upset about it, too.” :lol

To put my fellow journalists on blast for a moment:

You should be ashamed of yourselves, letting this doofus whose rhetoric literally sounds like that (http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/news/hear-mark-hamill-read-donald-trump-tweet-as-the-joker-w459623) of a mustache-twirling comic book villain manipulate you, using the same tactics as some schoolyard bully.

Trump Slams NATO, Floats Russia Nuke Deal in European Interview

Donald Trump

called NATO obsolete,

predicted that other European Union members would follow the U.K. in leaving the bloc,

and threatened BMW with import duties over a planned plant in Mexico

signaled a major shift in trans-Atlantic relations, including an interest in lifting U.S. sanctions on Russia as part of a nuclear weapons reduction deal.

Trump predicted that Britain’s exit from the EU will be a success and portrayed the EU as an instrument of German domination designed with the purpose of beating the U.S. in international trade. For that reason, Trump said, he’s fairly indifferent to whether the EU stays together,

he was interested in making “good deals with Russia,” floating the idea of lifting sanctions that were imposed as the U.S. has sought to punish the Kremlin for its annexation of Crimea in 2014 and military support of the Syrian government.

https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2017-01-15/trump-calls-nato-obsolete-and-dismisses-eu-in-german-interview

Trash is a tool of Pootin, who would love to see EU and NATO destroyed.

Then lifting of sanctions so Pootin and Tilliserson can consummate their $500B oil deal, worth $Ts to each of them.

This fucking scary stuff.

New Report Proves Donald Trump Lied About Not Seeking Business In Russia

Trump's history of seeking business in the country that helped him win last year's election is well-documented.

a new report published Monday by the New York Times may make the controversy even worse for the president-elect.

While Trump claims that he has always shied away from doing business in Russia, the Times report shows that the incoming president

has spent decades trying to strike deals to get business in the country.

More from the report (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/16/us/politics/donald-trump-russia-business.html?_r=0):

Mr. Trump repeatedly sought business in Russia as far back as 1987, when he traveled there to explore building a hotel.

He applied for his trademark in the country as early as 1996.

And his children and associates have appeared in Moscow over and over in search of joint ventures, meeting with developers and government officials.

During a trip in 2006, Mr. Sater and two of Mr. Trump’s children, Donald Jr. and Ivanka, stayed at the historic Hotel National Moscow across from the Kremlin, connecting with potential partners over the course of several days.

As recently as 2013, Mr. Trump himself was in Moscow. He had sold Russian real estate developers the right to host his Miss Universe pageant that year, and he used the visit as a chance to discuss development deals, writing on Twitter at the time: “TRUMP TOWER-MOSCOW is next.”

As the Russian market opened up in the post-Soviet Union era, Mr. Trump and his partners pursued Russians who were newly flush with cash to buy apartments in Trump Towers in New York and Florida, sales that he boasted about in a 2014 interview.

“I know the Russians better than anybody,” Mr. Trump told Michael D’Antonio, a Trump biographer who shared unpublished interview transcripts with The New York Times.Seeking deals in Russia became part of a broader strategy to expand the Trump brand worldwide.

By the mid-2000s, Mr. Trump was transitioning to mostly licensing his name to hotel, condominium and commercial towers rather than building or investing in real estate himself.

He discovered that his name was especially attractive in developing countries where the rising rich aspired to the type of ritzy glamour he personified.

Trump’s history of seeking business in the country that helped him win last year’s election is well-documented, but that didn’t stop

him from blatantly lying about it at last week’s disaster of a press conference.

“I have no dealings with Russia,” Trump said, adding:

“I have no deals that could happen in Russia because we’ve stayed away.

”While Trump is right that none of his deals ever broke through in Russia, it’s

only because his repeated efforts – which the New York Times outlined in the report – failed.

BUSH COUNTING DOWN DAYS UNTIL HE IS NO LONGER WORST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY

http://www.newyorker.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Borowitz-BushCountingDownDaysUntilHeisNoLongerWorstPresiden tinHistory-1200.jpg

DALLAS — Former President George W. Bush is eagerly counting down the days until he is no longer the worst President in U.S. history, Bush confirmed on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at his home, Bush said that he “could hardly wait” until Friday, when he will be officially bounced from the worst-President slot.

“I have to admit, I never thought I’d see this day in my lifetime,”

the former President said.

“When you leave office with the nation in smoldering ruins,

you sort of come to accept that you’re gonna be worst for a long, long time.”

“I guess you could say I set the bar kind of high, worst-wise,” he chuckled.

As the returns came in on Election Night, however, the former President suddenly realized that his days as the worst President in U.S. history might be coming to an abrupt end.

“Holy cow,” Bush remembered saying to himself. “Just holy cow.”

While Bush recognizes that many Americans are dreading Friday’s Inauguration, he said he hoped that they could “sort of understand” why he might see things differently.

“To be honest, Friday can’t come fast enough for me,” he said. “I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas.”

Trump's New Tactics With the Press Follow the Old-School Authoritarian Model

Journalists will be targeted in ways we didn't imagine.

Donald Trump is fulfilling the role of an authoritarian demagogue so thoroughly

The latest example comes as Trump and his team attempt to alienate the media by shutting down the White House press room, which has been in operation since the Nixon years. Trump’s war on the press is also attracting candidates to his administration who are helping PEOTUS devise ways to make journalists’ jobs harder, including by mandating that those who cover the White House undergo biannual drug tests.

"They are the opposition party," a senior official reportedly told Esquire.

"I want 'em out of the building. We are taking back the press room."

Effectively shutting out and shutting down the news media would allow Trump’s voice, in concert with propagandistic platforms such as Breitbart, the Enquirer, Fox News and other right-wing echo chambers, to ring out the loudes

“Journalists who are at the White House more than one day per week should be subject to drug screenings,”

Martosko wrote, according to New York Post Page Six (http://pagesix.com/2017/01/13/drug-testing-floated-for-white-house-press-corps/) columnist Richard Johnson, who broke the story. “Refusal to comply should exclude them from credentialing entirely.”

5 Ways To Measure Trump’s Illegitimacy

First,

there is the indisputable loss of the popular vote (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/28/opinion/donald-trumps-lies-about-the-popular-vote.html) that indelibly taints him as a minority president. He let fly in a tweet on November 27, “I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.” But Trump fiction cannot erase the fact that he lost by 2.8 million votes.

Second,

there is the criminal espionage of a hostile foreign power to aid his election, the Russian hacking of the DNC (https://theintercept.com/2016/12/14/heres-the-public-evidence-russia-hacked-the-dnc-its-not-enough/) and the Clinton campaign, which Trump brazenly encouraged. The former top expert on Russia for MI6, the British intelligence service, also claims in a dossier that Trump’s campaign collaborated and coordinated with the Russians, and that the Russians recorded Trump engaged in compromising behavior.

Third,

there is the intervention of FBI director James Comey, (http://www.vox.com/the-big-idea/2017/1/11/14215930/comey-email-election-clinton-campaign) who announced late in the campaign that Hillary Clinton was again a suspicious citizen under investigation, his interference triggered by a cabal of politically motivated agents in the New York bureau connected to Trump adviser Rudy Giuliani—an act in flagrant violation of strict Department of Justice guidelines against meddling in elections.

Whatever the motivations of anyone involved, whether of Putin or Comey, whether vengeance or arrogance, the FSB and the FBI assaults on the electoral process, separately and parallel, had the effect of a coup d’etat.

Fourth,

Republican-sponsored voter ID laws suppressed the black vote (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/courts_law/getting-a-photo-id-so-you-can-vote-is-easy-unless-youre-poor-black-latino-or-elderly/2016/05/23/8d5474ec-20f0-11e6-8690-f14ca9de2972_story.html) and possibly tipped the states of Wisconsin and North Carolina.

Fifth,

Trump’s campaign (http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/donald-trumps-brazen-dishonesty-starts-catch-him) was malicious, dishonest and disreputable, unlike that of any previous major party presidential candidate in the entire history of the country. He is the only one to have waged a campaign from beginning to end that whipped up virulent elements of racism, misogyny, nativism, mockery of the disabled and anti-Semitism.

His venomous campaign has not faded in memory. “Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence,” said Meryl Streep (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/08/arts/television/meryl-streep-golden-globes-speech.html)

How Trump Could Kill a Plan to Get You Overtime Pay

Donald Trump ran for president as the billionaire who would champion working people.

As the president-elect put it in one of the major economic speeches (https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/trump-delivers-speech-on-jobs-at-new-york-economic-club) of his campaign:

"Too many of our leaders have forgotten that it's their duty to protect the jobs, wages and well-being of American workers before any other consideration."

At stake is the possibility of overtime pay for about 4 million workers around the country.

Labor advocates say some employers have been playing games with who is considered a white-collar worker.

Trump's pick for labor secretary has attacked the idea of expanding overtime, and the president-elect himself seems skeptical.

When Trump was asked about (http://circa.com/politics/election-2016/trump-would-slash-us-education-department-reverse-worker-overtime-rules) the rule in August, he spoke of "a delay or a carve-out of sorts for our small business owners." It's not clear (http://www.politico.com/tipsheets/morning-shift/2016/08/trump-v-overtime-rule-215883) from his comments that Trump actually knew the details of the pending Obama changes.

Andrew Puzder, Trump's pick to be secretary of labor and the CEO of a fast-food company, has spoken out strongly against the overtime rule.
In a 2014 Wall Street Journal op-ed (http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702304256404579449811698734216), Puzder warned against "rewarding time spent rather than time well spent."

"What they lose in overtime pay they gain in the stature and sense of accomplishment that comes from being a salaried manager," Puzder said of workers trying to climb the management ladder.

the Trump administration could decide to stop defending the rule or not to appeal any judgment against it.

Donald Trump Faces Four Looming Flashpoints

North Korea

North Korea’s stepped-up development of nuclear weapons and long-range ballistic missiles may present the Trump administration with its first great international challenge. In recent years, the North Koreans appear to have made substantial progress (http://www.armscontrol.org/factsheets/northkoreaprofile) in producing such missiles and designing small nuclear warheads to fit on them.

The South China Sea

The next most dangerous flashpoint? The ongoing dispute over control of the South China Sea, an area bounded by China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and the island of Borneo. Citing ancient ties to islands in those waters, China now claims (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-pacific-13748349) the entire region as part of its national maritime territory. Some of the same islands are, however, also claimed by Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Although not claiming any territory in the region itself, the U.S. has a defense treaty with the Philippines,

The Baltic Sea Area

If Hillary Clinton had been elected, I would have placed the region adjoining the Baltic Sea at the top of my list of potential flashpoints, as it’s where Vladimir Putin would have been most likely to channel his hostility to her in particularand the West more generally. That’s because NATO forces have moved most deeply into the territory of the former Soviet Union in the Baltic states of Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. Those countries are also believed to be especially vulnerable to the kind of “hybrid” warfare (http://www.nato.int/docu/review/2015/also-in-2015/hybrid-modern-future-warfare-russia-ukraine/EN/index.htm)—involving covert operations, disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and the like—that Russia perfected in Crimea and Ukraine.

The Middle East

The Middle East has long been a major flashpoint. President Obama, for instance, came to office hoping to end U.S. involvement in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, yet U.S. troops are still fighting in both countries today. The question is: How might this picture change in the months ahead?
Given the convoluted history of the region and its demonstrated capacity for surprise, any predictions should be offered with caution. Trump has promised to intensify the war against ISIS, which will undoubtedly require the deployment of additional American air, sea, and ground forces in the region

Business Euphoria Over Trump Gives Way To Caution And Confusion

as the president-elect fires off mixed and sometimes confusing messages on healthcare, taxes, and trade.

Doubts deepened over the weekend as Trump declared he would replace President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare plan known as Obamacare with “insurance for everybody” (http://www.nationalmemo.com/trumps-big-health-care-promise-insurance-everybody/) – a goal far beyond Republican designs – and criticized a key component of a plan in Congress to overhaul corporate taxes.

‘We are not really sure what he means by that’,”

Guess Who's Been Advising Trump? (http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/1/17/1621714/-Guess-Who-s-Been-Advising-Trump)

Guess who's been advising Donald Trump on his picks for the people who will control foreign policy in a Trump administration?

Well, here's a hint: who's the most murderous, toxic, partisan psychopath you can think of?

One who gained so much infamy for his services to the Bush administration that he had to flee the country (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/18/world/18blackwater.html) to avoid the law?
If you guessed Erik Prince, notorious mercenary and founder of Blackwater, you win the dubious prize (https://theintercept.com/2017/01/17/notorious-mercenary-erik-prince-is-advising-trump-from-the-shadows/):

Erik Prince, America’s most notorious mercenary, is lurking in the shadows of the incoming Trump administration. A former senior U.S. official who has advised the Trump transition told The Intercept that

Prince has been advising the team on matters related to intelligence and defense, including weighing in on candidates for the defense and state departments....

On election night, Prince’s latest wife, Stacy DeLuke, posted pictures from inside Trump’s campaign headquarters as Donald Trump and Mike Pence watched the returns come in, including a close shot of Pence and Trump with their families....

Speaking of families, his not-yet-quite-so-notorious sister, Betsy DeVos, will be a member of the Trump administration, tasked with destroying the public education system:

Prince’s sister, billionaire Betsy DeVos, is Trump’s nominee for education secretary and Prince (and his mother) gave large sums of money to a Trump Super PAC....

MOVING VANS ARRIVE AT WHITE HOUSE TO REMOVE ALL TRACES OF COMPETENCE, DIGNITY

http://www.newyorker.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Borowitz-MovingVansArriveatWhiteHousetoRemoveAllTracesofCom petenceDignity-1200.jpg

WASHINGTON — Moving vans arrived at the White House on Wednesday to remove all traces of competence and dignity.

Working around the clock, movers started clearing out the optimism and progress that had accumulated during the past eight years.

“Once we’ve packed up that stuff, we’ll start moving out the wisdom and maturity,”

one of the movers said.

“The guy who’s moving in wants all of that gone.”

After the movers complete their work,

a cleaning crew will come in and scrub the White House of every last speck of compassion.

The movers are working under a strict deadline, since the White House needs to be totally stripped of decency by nine o’clock on Friday morning, the mover said.

“The new guy wants the place to be completely empty, ” he said. “He has a lot of crap.”

Donald Trump admitted he met Vladimir Putin in 2015 interview, despite recently saying he hadn’t

President-elect Trump may say now that he never met Putin, but that wasn't what he said in 201

President-elect Donald Trump may be trying to downplay his relationship with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, but in an October 2015 interview (https://www.yahoo.com/news/tape-shows-trump-contradicting-himself-again-on-putin-meeting-213245455.html), he openly admitted to having met the despot.

During the radio interview in question with conservative talk show host Michael Savage, Trump said that he had met Putin “one time … a long time ago” and claimed that he “got along with him great.”

Trump also praised Putin’s atrocities-filled military campaign in Syria (https://www.hrw.org/europe/central-asia/russia), describing it as “wonderful” because the Russians were “really hitting ISIS hard.”

When Savage asked if Trump felt he could “do business with Vladimir” if he was elected president, Trump replied, “Yes, I do. I think I would get along very well. I had the Miss Universe pageant, believe it or not, in Moscow two years ago. I got many of the Russian leaders, the top people in Russia, honestly . . . These are people, they are looking to do things.”

This isn’t the first time that Trump has admitted to having met Putin (http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/aug/01/donald-trump/donald-trump-gets-full-flop-whether-hes-had-relati/). His previous occasions included a November 2013 interview with MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts, in which Trump said, “I do have a relationship [with Putin], and I can tell you that he’s very interested in what we’re doing here today.”

In an address at the CPAC conference in March 2014, when he bragged that “Putin even sent me a present” after the Miss Universe contest; at an address at the National Press Club in May 2014, he said, “I spoke, indirectly and directly, with President Putin” during his stay in Moscow for the pageant.

During a debate on Fox Business News in November 2015, Trump claimed (inaccurately) that he had gotten to know Putin “very well because we were both on 60 Minutes” (which would have been impossible since their footage was shot on different continents).

Once Trump’s alleged relationship with Putin became a controversy, however, he changed his tune.

In July he told George Stephanopoulos of ABC News that “I have no relationship to — with him. I have no relationship with him.” He has repeated these claims ever since, most recently on Twitter.

Behind the media-manufactured facade of white working class men as the cackling villains who gave the country to Donald Trump, in other words, lies a reality far more in keeping with the complexities of American electoral politics: a ramshackle coalition of many different voting blocs and interest groups, each with its own assortment of reasons for voting for a candidate feared and despised by the US political establishment and the mainstream media. That coalition included a very large majority of the US working class in general, and while white working class voters of both genders were disproportionately more likely to have voted for Trump than their nonwhite equivalents, it wasn’t simply a matter of whiteness, or for that matter maleness.

It was, however, to a very great extent a matter of social class. This isn’t just because so large a fraction of working class voters generally backed Trump; it’s also because Trump saw this from the beginning, and aimed his campaign squarely at the working class vote. His signature red ball cap was part of that—can you imagine Hillary Clinton wearing so proletarian a garment without absurdity?—but, as I pointed out a year ago (http://thearchdruidreport.blogspot.com/2016/01/donald-trump-and-politics-of-resentment.html), so was his deliberate strategy of saying (and tweeting) things that would get the liberal punditocracy to denounce him. The tones of sneering contempt and condescension they directed at him were all too familiar to his working class audiences, who have been treated to the same tones unceasingly by their soi-disant betters for decades now.

‘He Has This Deep Fear That He Is Not a Legitimate President’

On the eve of the inauguration, Trump’s biographers ponder his refusal to bend his ego to his new office.

assess whether Trump has continued to surprise them. Their collective wisdom? In a word, no.

they see the same person they’ve always seen—the consummate classroom troublemaker; a vain, insecure bully; and an anti-institutional schemer, as adept at “gaming the system” as he is unashamed. As they look ahead to his inauguration speech in two days, and to his administration beyond, they feel confident predicting that he will run the country much as he has run his company. For himself.

“He’s not going to be that concerned with the actual competent administration of the government,” D’Antonio said. “It’s going to be what he seems to be gaining or losing in public esteem. So almost like a monarch. The figurehead who rallies people and gets credit for things.”

exact same M.O. that we saw throughout his career, throughout the campaign, and now. This is all about him completely dominating the news cycles—the use of Twitter to distract from any real questions, emphasis on loyalty, vituperation toward anyone he sees who is disloyal or doesn’t toe his line, and his emphasis on conflict, the notion of setting people against each other. Now it’s countries against each other. It’s news organizations against each other.

it would have been in his best interests to sit back from the Twitter show and take a breather. And he couldn’t help himself. And he’s opining on subjects that he knows very little about from national security to healthcare policy and others.

why he seems to have affection for a guy like Putin. And the thing that I’m afraid of most, based on what I’m seeing, is that he seems to want to be the same style of leader, where he intimidates people. He tries to shame them. The most shocking thing I think he did was note all of his enemies in his New Year’s message. The idea of a president actually having even the thought of all of these enemies in his head as he’s welcoming the new year and greeting the country is almost crazy to me.

is there any indication that he would be able to separate the interests of the country now from his own personal pique?

Blair: Zero.

O’Brien: Absolutely not. There will be no divide there. The whole thing has been a vanity show from the second he ran to the Republican Convention

He’s been unable to find a clean division between his own emotional needs and his own insecurities and simply being a healthy, strategically committed leader who wants to parse through good policy options and a wide series of public statements about the direction in which he’ll take the country.

his grasp in early adulthood that being a bully and really putting it to other people and not backing down often works.

Roy Cohn (http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/04/donald-trump-roy-cohn-mentor-joseph-mccarthy-213799) as a mentor, a guy who stood for cold-eye calculus about how bullying people works.

O’Brien: His father and Roy Cohn, those are the two most singular influences on his whole life, and they provided him with a militarized, transactional view of human relationships, business dealings and the law.

we have overlooked as we see Trump trying to delegitimize others is what I suspect is a feeling he has inside that nothing he’s ever achieved himself has ever been legitimate.

that’s why he goes to such great lengths to delegitimize even the intelligence community, which is the president’s key resource in security, and he’s going to do this demeaning and delegitimizing behavior rather than accept what they have to tell him.

he’s gaming the White House. He’s gaming, looking for the loopholes. The president is exempt from these conflict of interest laws. There’s an awful lot, it turns out, that are matters of tradition, of habit, of what we expect. But they’re not actually legally required—the tax returns, all of that. He’s gaming all of that. All of the things that people thought had to be done, don’t have to be done.

D’Antonio: I think Donald Trump measures himself by the number of norms that he can violate. The more he can get away with, the more he can thumb his nose at convention, the more powerful he feels.

makes him the classic ‘60s, early-‘70s baby-boomer, anti-establishment ruffian. Everybody talks about how it was, this cliché version of the anti-war hippie person that represents the ‘60s, but I think this narcissistic, anti-establishment tenor of his personality and what he’s doing now makes him the inheritor of all of that chaos. He just never outgrew it.

"firing the corrupt and incompetent VA executives who let our veterans down." Trump is considering (http://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-considering-moving-va-toward-privatization-1482974260) privatizing large swaths of the VA office.

A page devoted to civil rights has been replaced by a screed under the heading "Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement Community."

WhiteHouse.gov notes that the homicide rate in Washington, D.C., is up 50 percent, which is demonstrably false (http://the%20trump%20administration%20quietly%20purges%20 all%20mention%20of%20civil%20rights%20and%20climat e%20change%20from%20white%20house%20website/).

It also promises to increase the country's police presence and provide security for Americans who have "not known safe neighborhoods for a very long time."

The words "African American" do not appear in any portion of the text.

Meanwhile, the "America First Foreign Policy" page promises to destroy Islamic fundamentalism, guaranteeing "peace through strength."

Welcome to Donald Trump's America. This is your country now.

In First Act as President, Trump Raises Mortgage Rates on Struggling Homeowners

One of President Obama’s last acts as head of the executive branch was to instruct Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro to cut mortgage insurance premiums (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/trump-already-suspends-obama-era-fha-mortgage-insurance-cut-2017-01-20) under the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).

The move was intended to expand mortgages to lower-income families to allow them the opportunity to own a home, effectively saving FHA borrowers anywhere between $500 and $1,000 per year.

Despite the housing crash of 2008, Secretary Castro said his administration would be more than capable of absorbing the hit in annual revenue, making a bailout of the FHA highly unlikely.

However, under the new executive order Trump signed on Friday evening, the cut in premium rates has now been suspended “indefinitely,” meaning low-income homeowners across the United States already struggling to pay their mortgage are now going to have to scrimp and save even more, as Trump’s latest action now makes them roughly $1,000 poorer.

The FEC Inadvertently Confirms That Trump Paid Actors to Attend His Announcement Event

they used a casting agency called The Extra Mile to pay extras to attend Donald Trump’s announcement. Here’s the highlights from the FEC (http://eqs.fec.gov/eqsdocsMUR/17044405316.pdf) doc:

SUBJECT: The complaint alleged that the Committee paid actors to attend Trump’s candidacy announcement but failed to disclose payments to the actors or the companies that allegedly hired them, or to report a debt or obligations to Gotham, one of the companies involved with running the announcement event. Consequently, Gotham and Extra Mile, the other company allegedly involved with hiring the actors, may have made and Trump and the Committee may have accepted prohibited or excessive contributions. Trump was a 2016 candidate for United States President.DISPOSITION: The Commission exercised its prosecutorial discretion and dismissed the allegation that the Committee failed to report debt to Gotham, in light of the relatively modest amount at issue. The Commission closed the file in connection with the remaining allegations.

…We believe that the service at issue here — assembling a crowd of attendees for a candidacy announcement — provided a benefit to the Trump campaign…In this matter, the available information indicates that the Committee, retained Gotham as an event consultant, and Gotham, in turn, subcontracted with Extra Mile to provide extra administrative support at Trump’s announcement, including the provision of at least some of the rally crowd.…Extra Mile issued a casting call e-mail for actors “to wear t-shirts and carry signs and help cheer [Trump] in support of his announcement” in exchange for a payment of S50.

Also noted in the papers is further indication of efforts to make the crowd look bigger, “Another press report indicated that campaign staff also persuaded tourists in the area to be part of the crowd.”

http://images.dailykos.com/images/137521/story_image/Iraq_Operation_Archangel.jpg?1453531482

On the day after he was sworn in as the 45th president in American history, Donald Trump stepped in foreign policy controversy, saying the US should have kept Iraqi oil after its drawdown from the Iraq war, and suggesting “maybe we’ll have another chance” at accessing that natural resource.

He also said Iraqi oil was responsible for the rise of ISIS.

“If we kept the oil, you probably wouldn’t have ISIS because that’s where they made their money in the first place, so we should have kept the oil, but, OK, maybe we’ll have another chance,” he said.

A message for you next President, before 2020

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MIKE PENCE

http://www.newyorker.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Borowitz-Letter-from-Mike-Pence-1200.jpg

WASHINGTON — Vice-President Mike Pence has issued the following message to the American people:

Dear American People,

What with all the hoopla and hullabaloo of Inauguration Week, we didn’t really get a chance to get to know each other. And so, if you don’t mind, I thought that I’d take a minute or two to tell you a thing or two about Mike Pence.

I’m what most people would call a “fun guy.”

In my spare time, I enjoy golf and heterosexuality.

And I’m something of a voracious reader. My favorite book, of course, is the Bible, but I enjoy other books, too. I’m a big fan of “The Da Vinci Code,” which has a lot of stuff about the Bible in it.

And Paul Ryan just gave me a copy of “Atlas Shrugged,” by Ayn Rand. I just started reading that one, so I haven’t gotten to any parts in it about the Bible yet, but it’s darn good.

Another thing I read recently, and it’s probably become

my second-favorite piece of reading material right after the Bible, is the Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

It’s all about how to remove the President and replace him with the Vice-President. I have to admit that it was a kick to start reading the dusty old Constitution for the very first time and see yours truly right in there!

It turns out that the Twenty-fifth Amendment says that the country can remove the President if he is found to be “incapacitated.” That can mean anything from physically incapacitated, like being in an irreversible coma, to mentally incapacitated,

like being seen raving like a lunatic during a visit to the C.I.A.

Either way, if folks decide that it’s time to put a fork in you, see you later, alligator!

Whenever I read something great, I tell everyone I know to go out and read it, too. And so, my fellow-Americans,

I encourage each and every one of you, history buffs or otherwise, to read the Twenty-fifth Amendment today—especially Section 4, which is a little complicated but really exciting, too.

If you enjoy reading it as much as I did, let me know. I’m in my office in Washington and you can reach me anytime—I’m of sound mind and body.

Well, I’m super-glad we had the chance to get to know each other a little better. Until next time, here’s Mike Pence saying, God bless America.

And God bless the Twenty-fifth Amendment.
