If the Knicks were to somehow get Wade... they'd be a walking med recovery unit - Rose, Melo, Noah, Wade, even the youngster KP got hurt last year.
Brittle. Seriously talented but brittle as hell.
Howard signing w Hawks. Yikes

If Atlanta signed Howard, I assume that means Horford is gone... If Horford goes to Boston, the Celts probably release Jerebko-- a good option for the Spurs...
I had heard that Atlanta's plan was to pair the two of them together. They still have the flexibility to make that happen, unless Horford states that he Dhaka no desire to stay.

I always thought Horford would be better served playing PF next to a real C, but it seems like this is too little, too late... Plus, what happens to Paul Millsap? He's too good to come off the bench.

Not only yeah, but hell yeah. And they aren't going to be putting any big pieces around him this offseason. You guys are starting to see the pinch I was talking about, and why I thought taking a year to re-build. Free up a shitload of cap space, to bring in a top-tier FA, and manufacture a 40-win season to score a lottery pick.
Making the playoffs isn't enough. Aldridge didn't come here for second round (or first round) bounces. I was talking about a quick, controlled re-build. The Spurs need to pull a rabbit out of the hat, or they are going to be forced into a real, and much more ugly re-build. Right now I'm down to hoping for them finding a few over-achievers from the D-League or Europe.
But, yeah, they damned well better put some pieces in to be serious contenders, or they'll never get any big name players to come. The worst thing they could do is be a 50-win team for the next couple of seasons. Either find a way to be better than that, or commit a year to re-build and get the pain over with.
If they were desperate for winning now at all coasts a minitank is not it because it takes time to develop picks, even lottery picks into reliable help in the playoffs. Its more likely than not that you will get someone who can help a little bit but is not going to be a difference maker.
What you are really wishing for is trades for veterans that can help right now. Trading Tony Parker is a need in a scenario like this, maybe Diaw too bc he's coasted long enough.

Whatever it would take to get either Hill or Ian, just throw it at Dedmon.
Dedmon averages 6 fouls per 36 playing against scrubs.:lol (Willie Reed better)
In any case, Jordan Hill got paid 10 mill under the old CBA & Ian is in the 15 mill territory.

Apparently, Kawhi Leonard has a personal matter and won't be attending the meeting. What could be more important than meeting with a generational talent like KD and trying to convince him to join the team? Unless, of course, that generational talent plays your position.

So last year, more or less after the Spurs talked with Aldridge, they sent Splitter to the Hawks for cap space without even knowing Aldridge's decision. Aldridge was torn between Spurs and the Suns for a while and Splitter was gone. Do you think something similar is going to happen tomorrow?

A player is only worth what someone is willing to offer - Wade is tired of taking discounts with the promise of being paid later (which is what Miami wants him to do again as they chase Durant and max out Whiteside. Now, there might be a team that WOULD offer him more than what Turner got, but he obviously wants to find a team that he would either have a chance at a ring or have the opportunity to play with his friend(s).

Yeah, I suppose that could be a reason however, there's no reason to hide it unless you're not the father (JK). I just find it very puzzling that your best player would rather attend to a personal matter rather than help convince one of the 3-5 best players in the game to join your team. My definition of a personal matter is one in which the player doesn't want to disclose publicly. A birth of his child doesn't fit that description.

On one hand KD seems less likely to join the Spurs, so the Spurs would be foolish to prematurely trade or cut players.
On the other hand, the moves they have to make are less severe/impactful than trading Splitter, so maybe the risk is worth the reward.

The Nets are setting the market for low-tier fliers at multiple millions of dollars. That's going to make it extremely difficult to for the Spurs to even get value there. We'll see what the Euros get, but it seems like the odds of picking up Bourousis on even a slightly risky contract are very long.

I just find it very puzzling that your best player would rather attend to a personal matter rather than help convince one of the 3-5 best players in the game to join your team. My definition of a personal matter is one in which the player doesn't want to disclose publicly. A birth of his child doesn't fit that description.
The medical situation of his girlfriend is nobody's business. For all we know the girlfriend is bedridden at this point or something is up. That is private medical information that nobody needs to know about. But his girlfriend is due soon, so its not inconceivable that he could be tied up for indeed, personal reasons.

There are reasons to miss obviously, but if it's really that he just doesn't want to go, it's a bad look. It would be very similar to the shit Derrick Rose pulled in 2010. But as SAG said, lots of reasons that could tie him up.

Probably on a two year deal with some option in year two. Bertans is good, but let's not act like he was an MVP candidate last year. And let's also not forget he's had two ACL surgeries on the same knee.
A two-year min deal should be sufficient to get his foot in the door.

It's a tender, not a QO (they are very different offers, not trying to be a jerk), and it's complicated. The Spurs have to buy Bertans out for him to sign, so him forcing the team's hands would also mean finding $650k of his own money to pay to his team. THEN he'd take the $543k tender in hopes of getting more a year later. It's an extremely unlikely scenario.

He probably was impressed. Thanks for clarifying. :tu I am admittedly very ignorant on these issues. I just don't think it makes sense to lowball him. I don't think he'll be anything major specially his first season. I am not convinced he'll even be durable, and I am reminded on the Daye's of the world. Until we see him in the NBA we don't even know if he can defend at this level. He has red flags like poor rebounding numbers etc. but 6'10 guys who can hit a 3 and are not Bonner do have a market. 6/2 is at least a starting point. If I were the Spurs I'd try to get a 3rd season out of that but we might not be able to.

Completely speculation on my part, but I think SA is firmly in the running for Pau. The fact that other teams have not secured a commitment even though he is probably their top priority signals to me that he is waiting for SA/KD situation to clear up.
Every other team chasing him is not meeting with KD and has already seemingly made an offer (POR) or has nothing stopping them like KD/SA (some have already made offers to other players).
Sound, logical speculation. :toast

As they said that to him, Harden just stood there, turned his head and watched Bazemore blow past him and out the door. Then he picked up his phone, dialed a random teammate and started yelling at them.

Millsap makes 20 million while the Spurs have 12 million in room.
If you can dump 8 million maybe Atlanta calls you. Doubtful.
Splitter on the other hand would be terrific, you renounce the bench dead weight and he's back. Do it now IMO.

Good guess. I like SA strategy. Its KD (long shot or no), then Pau.

Good question. I think most of the league is not chasing Durant, so they don't mind seeing GS sign him and then have to renounce a bunch of their players, so they would become available as UFAs.

They're prolly waiting to even listen to offers until they hear from GS. As much as that group trash talks the rest of the league they're pretty loyal to each other.

Seems like a good fit on paper though. Dwight fixes their weaknesses in rim protection and rebounding. Who knows, maybe it actually works out since there's no Kobe or Harden in the picture.

Read somewhere Splitter is available... If Tim retires, getting Splitter+Gasol this offseason would be pretty nice.

Splitter has only one year left on his contract. Unless there is a player who is willing to take a 1 year contract that can play better than a half healthy Splitter, it might be worth a look (If TD retires).

There should be an interesting secondary market for trades when teams try to sign big name free agents. Either getting the primary piece or trying to keep the primary players happy by getting additional big name FA's.
