I still feel like Ringo in the end will pick Texas, don't care what the so called recruiting guys say. His DB coach is one of our all-time greats, and one of his biggest influencers. He will end up at Texas because of this.

lot of folks talk up the HC/Westbrook angle. Do we know he's even trying to actively, assertively get Ringo to come to Texas (former 'Horn or not)? I mean, maybe he's like the parent who has a preference but wants the kid to make the call absent any interference.

What are your thoughts on him? This staff is very selective with offers and they offered him a good while back so they definitely saw something they like.
I'd be lying if I tried to tell you where I think Logan-Redding fits within the scheme; that's not a strength of mine.
I like his film and think he's a take if we're assuming UT isn't going to hit on their priority targets.

Keep in mind, our first targets aren't always going to turn out to be the best targets. In 2005 our primary target was Ryan Perrillox and our backup was Colt McCoy. And lets not forget our top target in 2004 was Rhett Bomar.
Generally speaking guys who are high 3'star are just as talented as the 4'star guys only a lot more hungry to prove themselves.

If Sam wins the Heisman by out performing the kid from Clemson, he will not be here for his senior year, this I guarantee. I would love to see it, but I think Sam will be one of the top QBs in the country but likely not a Heisman or NFL QB.
However...
This time last year I was really down on him even being our starter and now he has won me over and most of the Longhorn nation as well. So he might be able to pull it off.

This is a weird recruiting year. This season can’t get here soon enough.
Lots of false negative recruiting in my opinion. Zach Evans told me all I need to know.

ehlinger is a winner, pure and simple. i don't know if that translates to a heismann because his numbers may not be as impressive in the end, but if the horns are winning this year, he will have to be a finalist.

WR Johnny Wilson summarizes his most recent visit to Texas (24/7):
“Really, it’s just a great town and a great place to be,” Wilson said. “The people are amazing. The experience I had the first time I visited the school was amazing. They welcomed me, and I just wanted my mom to get that same experience. She came out here and got a good look at the school and everything they had to offer. She went home Sunday, but I had to stay a couple more.”
“Gabe (Floyd) is my guy,” he said. “I’ve known him forever. I also met some other guys on the team including a lot of the receivers. I got to know what they thought of the program and how they fit into the system. Everyone there is trying to get to the same goal and working towards the same goal. They are working hard and they just tell me it’s a grind. We all connected really quickly.”
“When I first started showing interest in Texas, that was his main thing,” Wilson said. “He was just saying, ‘You know we play big receivers’, and they turned a tight end who was 6-foot-7, 250 into a receiver. So that’s been their main thing with me I guess. Just being able to hear that I will be playing receiver if I go to Texas is good.”
“It will be most likely during the season,” he said. “I’m probably going to make a decision during the season sometime.”
“Really, right now it’s been Oregon and Texas who have been on me hard,” Wilson said. “UCLA and Washington have been in there too. Really it’s the only school in my top five. Ohio State kind of fell off.”
“Not necessarily,” he said. “I’ve been out here already and I’ve wanted to stay, so moving is not a problem. My parents and my grandparents have been wanting to move out of California for the longest. If I did come to Texas, it would give them the opportunity to do what they want.”

Offer family a job... done deal.
some local prospects that bear watching: 2021 cibolo steele DB kaleb higgins; his value is rising (just picked up offers from a&m, baylor and boston college) and should rise even more this season. he is an austin bowie transfer and brother of former bowie standout and stanford WR elijhah higgins. even though he is listed as a DB, i expect him to be seeing quite a lot of time at WR as well. steele's WR corp will be one of the best in the state and another one of their rising stars is 2020 WR daniel jackson who just picked up offers from arizona state, iowa state and USC.

Mike Farrell of Rivals made some predictions last week at the Rivals 5-star Camp. He had three going to Texas and quiet a few to A&M (but "only" Broughton and '21 Bryce Foster of relevance regarding Texas).
The three to Texas are WR JJ Hester (from Oklahoma), WR LV Bunkley-Shelton (from Cali) and '21 OG Hayden Conner (Taylor, Katy Texas).
The most interesting piece here, IMO, is that he thinks Texas lead for Bunkley-Shelton. Bunkley-Shelton was the guy that dominated Texas' California camp and got an offer. He was also one of the best receivers at this Rivals camp. Farrell says he has a lot of work to do in the classroom and could be forced to go the JUCO route. Just something to watch moving forward.

I'm no longer impressed with Mookie, this kid is taking this process too lightly, if he picks Ohio State good for him. I'm ready to move on. Vernon Broughton, Ramson and Robinson none of them will likely go to Texas, but they have taken this process like mature adults and though I really want them to go to Texas, I wish all of them nothing but the best.
For me, it's hard to care when someone commits to several different schools. His commitment means nothing.

I keep reading this quote, which is semi-encouraging, but then I remember that College Station is even closer to their place than Austin is, by about 45 minutes or more.
Obviously, it's probably not any significant factor: it's just that if distance is important to him, we don't get any advantage over a&m in that department.
Hopefully, he truly is a big Giles guy. That he supposedly was pretty close to committing to A&M though despite all the time built up with our guys is disconcerting to me.

Thats a big boy response! Go on Caden! I liked how one of O’Neal’s responses was that he wasn’t a starter because he backed up a Dallas Cowboys aka Donovan Wilson. As of July 3rd, The Football Brainiacs still believe that DT Vernon Broughton is headed to UT when he makes a decision.
“I mean my family can come down, like 2 hours out. They have nice facilities and everything. I’m good with Coach Giles, Coach Herman – I’m really good with them.”
Inside Texas said this morning that Broughton is a coin flip, but the report read more like it was letting UT fans down easy.
They believe Broughton does truly care about scheme despite saying publicly that he doesn't, and he already has a trip to College Station planned for when the dead period ends.
They do give Texas some hope if he decides to visit Austin again before making a decision this month.

Right now I think Chris Thompson Jr, Prince Dorbah, Chad Lindberg, and Jahari Rogers are all strong Texas leans. I feel good about all four.
I think Alfred Collins is a slight Texas lean right now.
I will say this in regards to all the Arizona guys, it's a good thing they are putting time distance between themselves and their visits. Hopefully it will work in our favor. Sadly, I've lost all confidence in landing them.
Something I do feel good about is that we aren't hearing new names come up regarding safety and runningback. I'm hoping this is a sign that we are in good shape with someone we are currently recruiting.

FWIW, Inside Texas had Rogers and Collins as slight UT leans as of this morning.
They admitted they're uncertain on how confident they should be at this point on Rogers, and he has already moved his timeline back a few weeks.

If Texas goes with Stone, then maybe he's headed to Bama which would hurt with Adeleye.

I was mildly surprised they took Stowers so early with Milroe in play. While I do have Milroe 1A and Stone 1B for the 2021 class, you can't go wrong with either one of them obviously.

Herman and Co. like to take early QB commits and Stone may be dragging his feet for some reason, so they probably felt it's best to offer Milroe to help nudge this thing along and if he commits first they'd be fine with it. I believe you're right with Stone being the guy, so Milroe is the one who needs to make the move first if he wants in.

I would recruit Evans as a side piece. Make sure Bijan or whoever the number 1 guy is knows he’s numero uno and then just keep talking to Evans until he commits to wherever he eventually goes. If he comes then cool. If not, oh well. Either way, don’t give him all the attention he’s after. And if there’s actually any truth to him wanting money, let A&M or whoever have him.

Things aren't nearly as gloom and doom as many want to believe. Even if we miss on guys like Broughton and Ransom there are other alternatives available that will fill some needs. To be honest, Alfred Collins is the real gem of the dlinemen and there is a strong possibility that JQJ becomes a safety on the next level. The dlinemen I really want Texas to get is Octavious Oxindine who is the perfect guy to play the nose guard position. Ox is an absolute bull of a rusher. Pun intended.

Exactly. Lol. This is hardly a game changer.
The 2019 undergraduate tuition & fees of The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) are $10,610 for Texas residents and $37,580 for out of State students. The 2019 graduate school tuition & fees are $11,742 for Texas resident and $22,564 for others. 19,799 students (48.90% of the enrolled undergraduate students) have received grant or scholarships aid and the average amount is $10,671

When you think about the amount of money someone gets for a pell grant, they can afford to go to school for nothing more than maybe an on campus job. This means no student loans. That to me is a game changer.
Even if schools like Harvard and Rice do this, Texas is doing it for an estimated 8500 students, that is more than the entire student body at both of those schools. I hope every school follows through and does this for their students. However, I'm looking at this from a sports point of view in that Texas doesn't want to become one of those schools that cheats to get players. However, if Texas can use this to their advantage to give opportunities to those closest to a athlete then do it. Also lets not forget Tom Herman's drive to really make the PWO program work, this is a huge step in the right direction.

-OrangeBloods expects a decision sometime next week. Arkansas and LSU are out, and A&M is still ahead of Ohio State and UT. They do believe he's made his final decision which sounds like A&M, but they hedged a bit and said they wouldn't be surprised if he threw a curveball.
-24/7 agrees that a decision will come sometime next week or before, and they're still picking UT. Broughton told them he's choosing the school that feels like home and the one that he feels best recruited his family.
-The Football Brainiacs believe Broughton has made his final decision and he's currently shooting a commitment video.

Floss, could you see us not signing a RB in this class and going all in on Wheaton next year or do you think they’ll find a way to get somebody like Dominic Richardson to flip just to ensure we take a back?
LOL. Please, let's not fall for the "go all in on so-and-so next year," like it's virtually a given we'll land him just because "we're Texas." Many of us were singing that tune last year regarding Zach Evans. We see how well that is turning out.

Updates on DT Vernon Broughton as of this evening...
-The Football Brainiacs believe Broughton has made his final decision and he's currently shooting a commitment video.
from IT's latest, seems like they're thinking it 'might' be us, but that there's a whole lot of uncertainty at best there. Could of course as easily be the ags, which would suck super royally considering the Leal loss just last cycle.

Why would this not be a good thing? He is supposed to be back on campus before his announcement so I'm thinking at this point it really isn't much news. I'm glad he has put some distance between himself and the Ohio state trip. That will make the decision much easier.
The guy comes from a good family, I'm sure he will make a smart informed decision that is best for him.
most seem to think it's the Buckeyes. It's not over yet, though, so let's hope. It would be quite the coup for us, especially considering the Mt Everest feel to landing a really big time back (hopefully Keontay becomes that, but....)

I thought Inside Texas made a good point this morning that the A&M media would be a hell of lot more excited if they were positive Broughton was in.
We haven't seen that at all.

Keep in mind Whittington is now playing RB out of necessity.
He's likely in the WR group right now had Coach Drayton landed Cain and Brown didn't get sick.
Texas is super lucky that kid is just a pure, badass football player and everything worked out.

We also need to keep our fingers crossed Kirk Johnson is fully healthy and a major contributor this year at RB. We need him in a bad way for at least solid depth.
I think Drayton needs to re-evaluate his recruiting style, because it’s been kind of stale if you ask me.

-The Football Brainiacs believe Broughton has made his final decision and he's currently shooting a commitment video.
The Football Brainiacs added today that they spoke with Broughton's mother and they'll be filming a commitment video this weekend.
They aren't familiar with the person(s) filming the video, and it doesn't seem anyone on the A&M side knows either which would explain their uncertainty.
On an unrelated note, Wilftong from 24/7 hasn't put in an A&M crystal ball at this time which is noteworthy considering he's close with A&M's defensive staff.

On RB Bijan Robinson of Tucson, AZ...The Football Brainiacs spoke with his mother as well and he has made a decision.
She didn't tell them which school it was, but they did say people around his high school believe Ohio State is trending.
One thing they said to consider is Ohio State is expected to pick up RB Jaylan Knighton of Deerfield Beach, FL right before Robinson commits, and although he's considered an APB, they weren't positive Robinson would be ok with that.
They expect Texas' staff to use this down the stretch hoping it will resonate with Robinson and he'll change his mind if Texas isn't already his pick.

Little details here and there lead me to believe Texas is still in it and has a chance to pull a last minute upset, but I've got A&M right now.
Basically, I simply don't know and certain things don't add up if he's picking A&M.

I would feel pretty confident in Texas being in the lead, if it wasn't for Suchomel. Suchomel has always been pretty conservative predicting where recruits commit and now he is so adamant that Texas is still on the outside at the moment is cause for concern..

He has left some room for things to change and his initial info came from Broughton two weeks ago at the Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta, but there's no way to know who he's been talking to since then whether it's Broughton himself, his mother, etc.
Then you have Roach from 24/7 who has been talking to Broughton directly, and he's not coming off of his UT prediction to this point.

The latest on DT Vernon Broughton from OrangeBloods.
"If you’ve been paying attention to my reporting over the past few weeks, I’ve stated that I feel Texas is a bit behind A&M and to a lesser degree, Ohio State. I have very good reason to believe that, and it was stated to me again on Wednesday, yet I can’t quite shake the feeling that UT (his longtime leader) is going to surge down the stretch and win this race. Broughton is making a commitment video, which could be released as early as next week, so the time is running out on this one. Most of the signs I’ve picked up point to Texas A&M but there’s enough Texas buzz that I’m not ruling the Longhorns out at all. Tough one to call, and I just don’t have a great read on it yet. That should change soon."

This.
That top kids are getting good at managing the media relations game is a net positive, even though it frustrates certain people who make their living on inside information. The earlier a kid gets used to handling the demands of the various media outlets, the better for him.
People say Texas recruits are highly rated in high school because of all the camps, but because they are so developed early, there are fewer upside surprises from Texas recruits.
I like that a couple of the kids are starting to show they are as developed on the field as they are in dealing with the media. It shows me that the glare of the bright lights will be less of a distraction once they step foot on campus.
Or at least one can hope.

Just remember, the real Dline prize is Alfred Collins, he is the best dlinemen in the state. Very strange, this is a very down year for defensive linemen in the state. Leterally there are only about 5 to 7 top defensive linemen this year. Outside of them you are looking at guys that might develop over their senior year. This is good for Herman who is really good at evaluating seniors during the season.
I hate the idea of losing a top player to the ags, but I'm not holding my breath either way. I personally thing his best position is a 4-3 DT. He is too long to play the Nose, and not a good enough athlete to play the DE.
I'm really hoping that we can move some coaches around, I'd love to see Samples as our RB coach, get him out there on the recruiting trail and maybe move Beady to DE coach and get him helping Giles in recruiting. That of course would require losing a couple of coaches, tops on that list are Warehime and Drayton. Too bad, I like both, but if it means getting better recruiters for the dline and Runningback, I'm all in. i don't however wish to lose Oscar Giles, that dude is a great coach. Heck I'd even be good with keeping Drayton and using in another capacity. Make him an associate athletic director or something like that.

Much more of a pro-Texas vibe for DT Vernon Broughton since last night...
-Inside Texas still has it as a 50/50 race between A&M and Texas, but it appears they're being conservative on purpose. They've basically gone quiet, told everyone to shut up about it and wait until Sunday/Monday. They've been consistently reminding everyone that this one could end much like the recruitment of LB Malik Jefferson where UT closes late.
-Super K from The Football Brainiacs mentioned he spoke to a source inside A&M's AD and they didn't know where Broughton was going. He was also told by a separate source that Broughton had been on a group chat with some other recruits earlier this week and the talk was everyone committing to Texas. He's going with UT as the pick until he hears something different.
-OrangeBloods is starting to hear from several sources that there is a growing confidence on the Texas side, and that A&M feels like they're losing ground. They didn't say UT was going to be the pick, but they emphasized that Broughton's mother and grandmother were always going to have a big say in where he goes. They also mentioned Ohio State shouldn't be a factor.
-Nothing new with 24/7 as they're still picking Texas.

For those of you staying tuned in to the RB recruiting rollercoaster, Inside Texas reported this morning that they're hearing schools like Alabama and Georgia are stepping back and taking a breather (a temporary one, at least) on RB Zach Evans and stepping up their efforts with RB Jase McClellan.
Although Evans' brother posted on social media that Evans didn't even want to take the trip to Austin recently, apparently the Texas staff and Evans were able to clear the air and it was overall his best visit to campus.
Despite all of that, they reiterated this recruitment won't start until November and everyone will be jockeying for position behind the scenes until that time, but that Texas will recruit him the most consistently and hang around hoping they can close at the last minute.
I think it's safe to assume Evans will want to be at the LSU game in September, regardless of what his level of interest in UT is at that time.
