The report read as if he'd be a late-bloomer offer.
He was stout against WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba last weekend in the semifinal.
Carrington is following.

Didn’t Smith-Njigba score like 6 touchdowns in that game ? I heard the kid was unstoppable
Against Allen, which was probably the game of the year.
In the semis against Duncanville last week, he had only 37 yards receiving and he was covered by Rakestraw.

Inside Texas saying RB Jahmyr Gibbs of Dalton, GA is a name to watch.
He has been committed to Georgia Tech since May, but he hasn't signed.

Do we know if he's a higher priority than the Lancaster RB?

Bradford doesn't have an offer, at least publicly.
Texas will have more competition for Gibbs.

He's really becoming a good passer of the football. His film shows the ability to keep plays alive with his feet while continuing to look downfield and pass. Typically an A+ athlete like Milroe would just take off and run. Take a few minutes if you can and watch this film.

astounding. I remember growing up, i think there were about 10-12 total bowls. The four majors, a few mid-tier, and a few smaller ones. Pretty much (not always, but nearly so), you had to have a clear winning season, like 7-4 or 8-3. None of the 6-6 type stuff. It's always about $$$ though.

I agree with the psychological aspect. It's his last HS game and his replacement is a freshman. JQJ is going to be as involved with everything as possible as well as be Chris Parson's biggest fan tonight (granted I haven't seen tape on any other 2023 QB's, Parson's take looks pretty effing good).

I mentioned UTSA because it looks like Traylor is going to fill his coaching ranks with a bunch of high school coaches. Honestly, it's not a bad move, he will have lots of points when he starts recruiting and if he has any success he will open a lot of doors for other high school coaches. Traylor already owns bEast Texas, getting a few coaches out of Dallas and Houston will open doors for a lot of good players that might not have considered UTSA. Especially in the transfer portal.

Real UT fans have endured all this pain so as to set a frame of reference.
If we actually win another NC, we can die happy. Bama fans expect a championship every year. There is nowhere left to go for them.

Possibly. But sounds like either way he’s going to staff with tOSU through the CFP but they could announce it before. No reason to do it right now though since it’s a dead period for recruits so it really won’t make much a difference. It would be nice to know though just cause we’re all so antsy for a decision.

nice list; thanks for sharing this!
Battles is an interesting player. He is a fierce competitor and big and strong but his passing mechanics are still questionable. Begeal is a great kid and a dual-threat to a degree; he has nice passing mechanics, a nice touch and is pretty decent throwing on the run. His numbers are a bit inflated though because he has the luxury of passing to slot backs who can turn a screen into an 80 yard TD. Wyatt's weakness is he tends to get happy feet when the pocket collapses and he still needs to get better at going through his progressions. He also has a habit of staring down his targets. From what I hear in talking to Begeal's father is that Rice may be where he winds up but he may get more offers next year that could change that. (The kid that may wind up being the next Tommy Armstrong at Steele is actually an 8th grader at the moment but he seems to be the real deal. Big, fast and a strong arm-legit dual threat). Yarnell was big for LT after Hurd went down. And he plays at a school that puts out QB after QB. I like Bouldin from Wagner as an LB. His coach is really high on him. The RB for Converse Judson, Lewis, should get some legit offers as he is a tough and elusive runner with legit 4.5 speed. He just has a knack for bouncing off of tacklers. I would also add Freshman RB, Jaydon Bailey of Steele, who will be the best back from there since Justin Stockton. He has 4.4 speed and is tougher between the tackles than Stockton was. OT Kyle Tharp (6'6", 350) of Steele could have a break-out senior season as could FS Caleb Davis of Steele (class of '22).

Vanderbilt, Tennessee, South Carolina, Missouri, Kentucky, A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss. Mississippi State.
Dominating college football, are they?
lol.
Dan Jenkins said it best in a 2014 interview with Texas Monthly. His quote was that fans in the SEC are so rabid because they have such little else in their lives. He pointed to the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and essentially scortched the entire SEC fooprint by asking "What would the state of Alabama be without Univ of Alabama football?"
Of 14 SEC teams, 9 are garbage, and have been for most of the past quarter century, if not longer. Fans of those 9 garbage programs bleat incessently about "SEC dominance." Fans of the other 5 programs talking about how their team's season is going. THAT is the reality of SEC football.
Whenever anyone starts bleating about "SEC dominance of college football," you have just found a fan of one the predominantly garbage programs of the SEC. When a college football program has gone a quarter-century without being able to put two seasons back-to-back with a record above .500 in conference play, that program defines mediocrity. Nothing about such a record of utter fultility should be remotely conflated with "dominance."

Your BS is legendary. Can you be honest in anything you say?
Yurich was the primary recruiter for CJ Stroud the #2 rated pro style QB. He was the secondary recruiter for Jack Miller the 2nd QB in the class. Not bad, they got two 4'star QBs.
I'm pretty sure he will do okay at Texas so long as the offense does well.

We can't get much worse than what we had this year against really good defenses. We are a burnt orange dumpster fire...but there's always hope for next year right? At least on the defense we can get rid of the 3/4.
Look at the bright side, maybe Jerrah swoops in and hires Lincoln Riley!

Update on Quay Davis:
Earlier Thursday morning, 2021 Dallas Skyline wide receiver Quay Davis released his list of top five schools and the Texas Longhorns (https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/teams/texas-longhorns) made the cut.
Top 5 no order#wakemup2
https://pbs.twimg.com/ext_tw_video_thumb/1210062982408998912/pu/img/5NJUPlwa5qj3ICax?format=jpg&name=small (https://twitter.com/TheQuayDavis2/status/1210063463587962880)
Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Texas A&M are the other four programs still in contention for the consensus four-star prospect, who committed to Texas in June, but then decided to reopen his commitment in November.
Officially remaining in the mix for Davis is an important development for the Longhorns — Davis is a top-100 prospect nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings and Texas doesn’t currently have the benefit of an offensive coordinator or a wide receivers coach to recruit Davis. His primary recruiter, Drew Mehringer, was fired by head coach Tom Herman following the regular season.
So whether the Horns ultimately remain a contender for Davis will depend to some extent on the relationship that Mehringer’s replacement can build with the 6’0, 193-pounder with the Crimson Tide seemingly surging in his recruitment.
Davis is ranked as the No. 77 player nationally and the No. 13 wide receiver, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Talked to a co-worker/Baylor grad about Bears Sugar Bowl v Georgia. He’s afraid to go to game because he thinks Bulldogs will stomp them. I asked him if he was afraid of Ga.’s coaches. He immediately said no. He said he’s scared cause Uga has nfl guy at every position. He added that he thinks they might have a chance cause he thinks Fromm sux.
Texas should have better talent than Georgia until Gabriel blows his horn. That is THE problem our coaches have to fix.
non-playoff bowl games have lost their luster. now, it's all about which players will opt not to suit up and which team yields the most complete team. there used to be a time where success in a bowl game could somewhat gauge the upcoming season but i don't see that being so much the case anymore. so, it wouldn't surprise me to see baylor beat georgia but it also wouldn't surprise me if this winds up meaning nothing at all.

Under Chris Ash, Rutgers ranked 46th in the nation in combined salaries for assistant coaches. 46th in the nation. He was offering half the salary other programs were willing to pay assistant coaches, including recruiting coordinators. One of the first things Schiano was given was a doubling of the pool available to pay assistants. The Rutgers AD knew he was handcuffing Ash by not giving him the resoirces necessary to bring in a staff capable of building a decent program. Ash was given less than Kansas gave David Beatty to hire his staff.
That Rutgers has been a disaster isn't because Chris Ash didn't visit enough New Jersey high schools to recruit. Even a blatant homophobe should be able to understand building a winning college football program requires having a number of the right individuals in key positions, including Head Coach, AD, assistant coaches and recruiting coordinators. Well, that is unless unless the blatant homophobe primarily follows a program that has never accomplished much of anything.
Two bets I would be very willing to make are that Greg Schiano will never turn Rutgers into a college football powerhouse, and recruiting at Texas isn't going to suffer because of the hisirng of the new OC and DC.

I'm sold on both Yurcich and Ash. I think both will be an upgrade over last year. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Orlando and Beck was a hell of a recruiter. But I think both these guys are better than what we have had at Texas since Boom was our DC and Harsin was our OC.

OU was vastly overrated this season. We were poor this year, and we almost beat them. Baylor is a decent team, almost beat them twice. They got destroyed by KSU, who we beat. Their D-fence was a open gate. In the pile of chicken shit that was the Big 12, they were the blckspeck on top.....so while atop the pile of shit, they are still shit themselves. I said this last year, if Lawrence could declair last year as a freshmen, he would have been the #1 pick. He is a once a generation talent. John Elway, Payton Manning, Trevor Lawrence.
Clemson as a team is not better than Ohio State, but Trevor Lawrence makes them better. Now can he work the same magic against one of the best teams I've ever seen. If LSU wins, I'm ready to put them in my top 5 all Time with 95 Nebraska, 2004 USC, 2001 Miami, and 2005 Texas.

I like what Yurcich brings to the offense as a coach, with the right guy around him, I think Texas bring in enough talent to be a regular top 15 offense. Couple that with what we hope Ash can bring to the table.
I look at it like this. Add about 7 more points and subtract about 7 points and Texas pretty much beats everyone we played. I am at a point where I expect Texas to win the Conference or we need to find a new coach. We have all the pieces in place and now it's up to Tom Herman and his staff to bring it all together.

Wow this revamp was much bigger than what Charlie Strong had right? Wasn’t Charlies revamp of staff a bit dialed back then this? Hard to believe a coach could be given a second chance to fix a major screw up like rehiring a new staff of 10 after a few years.

Getting rid of Wareheim is 2 years too late. This guy stunk up the oline when he was there, and he stunk up special teams as well. I think Naivar and Washington are more a matter of what the new DC wants than the job they did. If we get rid of them, then I think we have our mind made up of who we want and will throw a little money at them to get them here. I'm hoping we raid Bama, Georgia, and LSU for their defensive coaches. I wouldn't mind stealing the tOSU WR coach as well.

with the coaches, Herman made the Strong mistake of thinking that those who you worked with before at the lower gig would help elevate you at the bigger one. In reality, as hindsight is clear, most of them weren't up to it probably (though some of these position coaches might look better with more effective coordinators above them).
Some of them apparently were good, maybe very good, recruiters, but I doubt the recruiting acumen was good enough to overcome whatever coaching deficits they may have brought.

I would need to go back and look because Charlie made changes before Year 2 bringing in Norvell and Traylor, so it's probably close to the same amount of turnover overall for each of their tenures.

Ossai is a beast.
I was DD in Big D as a pro. His build and toughness remind me a lot of Steve Smith. We will see if his pro career resembles Steve's.

He said Texas was the best 7-5 (now 8-5) team in the country! :lol
He's probably right by the way.

Instead of we just want to go 1 and 0 against a specific opponent we need to call every game a bowl game before the new week.
This team is driving me pure mental.
We require 4 weeks of preparation for a game I guess.

I think we might end up ranked higher than Aggie with the same record.
This could cause a stink with my Aggie compadres. Especially after they beat a big 12 powerhouse.

So was that a poor team overachieving or a good team living up to its potential? I see it as mostly a coaching problem.
The agros chose their bowl opponent wisely. They might have been wiped out, but we'll never know.
OU always sucks but now the whole nation sees it.
Happy New Year to all

Our defense was also healthy for seemingly the first time since week 2.

Really don't know why anyone would care. Bottom line is this year was another ho-hum adventure for both programs. Fans of either team will just have to salvage what good they saw for what to look forward to next season.

24/7 reporting DE Alfred Collins watched the Alamo Bowl last night with the Texas commitments and came away impressed with the performance.
Also, a lot of his family was rocking burnt orange at the All-American practices today.

Has Texas even come up with him lately? I won't lie to you on that one, but maybe we still finish the class nicely.

We have a chance with the DB from Kansas, but I just don't see Ringo in the mix. The key is who our new DB coach will be, I'm pulling for the guy from LSU or from Georgia. Mostly the guy from Georgia so we might have a chance with Ringo.

She will tell him he must play in Austin.
