I could see Hullaby at LB. Don't forget the JUCO's Texas brought in last year at LB. It only looks dire from the outside, while on the inside we do have some players at the position, granted lacking experience.

I think you are forgetting The Prince, he is our 1 linebacker commitment. Honestly at this point I'm thinking JQJ will be a linebacker at some point if he doesn't win the QB spot. The thing I love about our recruiting over the last 2 classes is that we have so many guys that can play several positions. We have safeties that can play linebacker, Linebackers that can play DE, and Defensive ends that can play anywhere along the defensive line. It gives the defensive coaches a lot of options.

Can't believe I forgot about Fillinger, I'm looking forward to watching him play.

2021 is moving more quickly, I don’t even know who these kids are. This is a WR take? Or defense?

edit: his 247 says WR but others say cornerback. I thought I had read he was being recruited on D, but again I can’t remember. Haven’t paid close attention to 2021.

I want him at nickel if we're assuming 2021 WR JoJo Earle of Aledo is the slot take for that class.

Bowman may be a special teams demon too.

Milroe and JQJ have been our best recruiters in the 2020 and 2021 classes. They have helped us in Dallas and Houston. Now I want us to get Samples back so we can close the deal with a few more top Dallas kids and take away blOwU recruiting advantage in that area.

Make it to the playoffs and we can remove all the aggy talk about the SEC, win a national championship and we can lock out LSU Bama and all the other top schools from the top tier Texas kids.

Honestly we get the offensive line we are looking at in 2021 and we can do just that.

I was hopeful we could hold onto Samples long enough for him to eventually take over the WR coaching position once Mehringer decides to move on. Love what Mehringer has done and all his players seem to like his coaching but seems that every offseason he gets looks for other jobs so there’s no telling when he could bounce. When it does happen I would think Samples would be an option.

We have 3 coaches coaching TEs and Wrs, if we lost one I'm guessing we don't go after another one and just add to the defensive staff. A DT coach that can really recruit would do wonders for Giles. I don't want to lose giles, but it's obvious he needs help recruiting.

My guess is Tim Beck will be the first coach to be offered a job as a head coach on our staff, and when that happens Beaty will take over. He is most qualified for the job. Samples would be great as a RB or TE coach, or WR but I think we would have to lose both for him to make it back to Austin.

Im sorry man but, huh? Every recruit that he’s been on this year, we’ve gotten. Broughton is the best in the state and we got him. Collins is second best in the state and we got him. Umanmielen is probably 3rd and we won’t get him but that has more to do with the fact that we got Broughton. Every interview that was done with those kids speaks glowingly of Giles and the effects he had on the recruits and their families. He’s also having to work against everybody telling these kids they’re just going to serve as gap fillers rather than stat killers under that 3-4 defense. Giles is good.

You must have forgotten the Danielle Hunter, K’Lavon Chaisson, DeMarvin Leal years. Seems like the first time in God knows when where he’s been able to land the 1st priority DL.

The same can be said for almost every other coach on the staff. Drayton backed into a RB last year. Mehringer did what recently? Herb Hand has proven himself but what were they thinking before that? Naivar is one of the best we got but he got beat out on jaylon Jones this year and that kid is going to A&M. Lol. Can’t say anything bad about Beck because we’ve gotten A+ QBs every year but that has more to do with Herman. Orlando has his hands full right now. Why all the hate for Giles? Yeah that was frustrating. So was the Leal fumble. And it’s fair to put that on Giles. My whole argument for Giles isn’t that he’s a great recruiter. He’s a good coach and all of the staff is responsible for the work that goes into recruiting bc they’re all getting help.

Angry boy and he’s playing a team sport with other people.
He may need to go on the chess circuit.

He still looking at and is unsure of himself, but there’s a big world around him.
A culture fit based on this article, absolutely not. Football is an incredibly cruel sport to the body so he might really need to rethink what he wants to do. Use the school for the scholarship, slowly get out of football while finding something at college that really suits you.

Stampede cliffs:

-Bijan: Don’t get too confident with it. Texas was assumed the obvious destination based on previous visits but USC is very much in the picture because of proximity, (source on this came from Arizona). Drayton told Jeff Howe last week that UT will “absolutely” find a system-fit back.

-Milroe is an alpha type leader and great recruiter. Expect another few commitments by the fall but also expect it to slow down. (No reason given for the slow down. Maybe just bc the staff doesn’t want to get too ahead of itself with sophomores but that’s a guess.)

-LV Bunkley-Shelton: got in late Friday night so didn’t workout at the camp (as Floss posted). Very good visit for Texas. Him and Mehringer have built a relationship over the past two months that’s picked up lately. Family loved Austin and LV came away pretty impressed with the program. Isn’t sold on USC bc of Helton etc. Expect UT to receive an OV in the fall and UT sits somewhere near the top of his list. (Didn’t give a timetable for a commitment.)

-We hosted Xavion Alford this past weekend. Mom brought him to UT after a&m visit. Bama is thought to be the favorite but has family that is pushing for Texas. Texas has been the constant in his recruitment and his family likes the staff. (247 made it sound like if he doesn’t choose Bama then UT is probably the destination. Idk how that jives with our DB numbers and Jerrin Thompson supposedly being on campus again on Tuesday of this week for another visit and possible commit(?) Still supposed to get CTJr. this week but he may be an OLB guy.)

I think the kid is just a product of his world, tbh and his recruitment brings out the nasty side of the whole recruiting business. Evans is right in suggesting that this whole recruiting process is a game. I'm sure he has doubts about how much these schools really care about his future or his success outside of football. Actually, in some ways, he reminds me of Ricky Williams. I just think it's sad because we see these kids in terms of the boxes we put them in. Black kids have it worse because of the racial element. I mean, juxtapose Evans to Hayden Connor, who had diverse interests and is praised for it, to the way Evans is seen as the prima donna, the angry and aloof black kid who is too full of himself. We all know that those stadiums, filled to capacity on Saturdays, have their fair share of fans who, while cheering like crazy for these athletes, also harbor very racist attitudes towards Blacks but make an exception when one of them is the star athlete on their favorite team. I know this is the case at A&M and UT and all of the SEC. So, I'm going to cut the kid some slack until i hear something that would tell me more, because this article really showed me that there is some depth to him.

You got me on Whittington and Lewis if you want to go by 247 as their lead recruiters (although Jordan made a lot of references to his fondness of Drayton throughout his recruitment). My point is Giles isn’t that bad. Broughton made it well known that his family loves Giles. He stayed up playing spades with VB’s grandma and wooing their whole family. He’s most likely going to land Alfred Collins, got Fillinger in the boat, and was the lead on Dorbah. It’s always somebody helping in the recruitments of these kids. Giles lost Leal and Chaisson. Naivar/Washington lost Jones and they’re probably the best recruiters on the staff. Drayton has whiffed hard at RB despite all of the analysts saying he was going to be a huge influence on recruits based on his coaching pedigree and history of putting RBs in the NFL.

i was going to comment on Evans and you nailed my thoughts so I don't have to repeat. I thought the article actually showed him in a positive light in regard to the depth and the reasons behind his thought process. I don't see it as anger for expressing himself and or questioning. Of course he is young and who knows how he grows and develops and deals with some of those things he questions. One does not have to be a cultural clone to fit into a team.I too wondered if Ricky Williams would be considered a culture fit. It will be interesting to see how things stand in a few years.

I love Giles, I think he is a great coach, but I don't think he is a great recruiter. I don't know why, I see him as a great guy that really cares about his players, but he always seems to need help in recruiting. You do realize we almost lost Coburn, we had to make Carrington a coach so he could go on recruiting trips with Giles. We've also had to send Beck and Washington with him on recruiting trips. I don't want to bash Giles, I love him as a coach, but he isn't perfect and a little help with recruiting isn't a bad thing.

LV Bunkley-Shelton:
Only taking OV’s from now on. UT, UW, AzSt, USC, UM are favs. RRR game is his preferred game to OV. Really high on UT.

Still scheduled to announce Fri but they wouldn’t be surprised if he pushes it back. Texas/USC battle. UT feels more confident than USC. It’s almost like starting all over with his recruitment. “Whole new ballgame.” There was a UT target at USC with Bijan when he OV’d there. That target (unnamed) said he felt like Bijan was headed to UT based on conversations with him. (That target is prob CTJr. or maybe Ty Jordan if I had to guess. You could prob look up visit dates and determine but lazy and don’t think this counts for much bc he silent committed to tOSU after this target told IT that quote.) Texas would have to top USC for both Jordan and Bijan.

Edit: Surly says the “target” with him was Lindberg.

Random notes:
Camar Wheaton and Xavion Alford both made stops on campus this weekend. IT feels like Texas leads for Wheaton. Losing Samples doesn’t help our chances with Camar but doesn’t hurt them. Texas is still pushing for Alford. 3 commitments set for this week; Thompson Jr., Bijan Robinson, Billy Bowman. “Should be a fun week”

Alfred Collins:
Still saying he will take all 5 visits. (Texas, A&M, LSU, ou, Bama). Said he’s still open and doesn’t have a fav right now. Wants to visit other places and see how he fits. Said that the staff told Collins there was only 1 available spot left on the d-line and Broughton is in his ear recruiting for UT.

Quentin Johnston:
Won the dunk contest at the camp. Favorites of UT, Baylor, TCU, and OU. Seen all of them except OU and been to UT 3 times. Family wants him close to home. Mentioned that he liked Milroe along with our 2020 QB commits. Said he will make a decision “very soon” meaning the end of the summer.

Demetric Warren put this in last night. Bowman is one of the ‘21 kids that have a “big announcement” on Wednesday that Floss posted about.

Gabe Brooks just CB’d Bowman to UT.

Adding Bowman this Wednesday would put UT in the #2 spot in team rankings for 2021 with a recruit average of .9221.

I hear you.
Valid points.

But a prodigy like this needs to understand he will affect his team and teammates. He might have gotten one of his friends into Bama who might never see the field. Was that a good or bad thing, I don’t know. A mature way to play the game is to use the University as I described if you don’t love the game. But others need to be aware of your intentions, because a responsiblilty falls on you that you might not want. Tell your friends and teammates not to rely on you in this game of recruiting and then on the field. Give them some sort of straight dope. He was born with a gift that unfortunately requires more of him if he wants to teach recruiters and recruiting a lesson. He is not the first. Get into school, and use the time wisely.

Realistically this is one article and we have no idea how descriptive it is of this kid. But if it is accurate, as of right now, he does not fit the Texas culture Tom Herman has described. He also never had a dad and his grandad passed away at a crucial juncture for decisions. Maybe he understands Herman and Ehlinger both had somewhat the same circumstances yet love the game. Probably not. And I don’t think any adult truly loves the recruiting process unless they absolutely don’t give a damn about kids.

I can’t see Herman kissing this kid before games unless there is some understanding concerning teammates.
And that’s fine. This sport is best for people who have united goals. He’s got time to figure it out.

imho, the current trend is all about the measurables and not too much on the game film. i think the real challenge in recruiting is finding the three star gems, of which there are plenty.

WR LV Bunkley Shelton of Gardena, CA talks about his weekend in Austin (24/7):

“I loved it in Austin,” Bunkley-Shelton said. “It’s a lot like L.A (Los Angeles) so that would be an easy transition for me. The people are awesome, everywhere we went, whether it was a restaurant or a BBQ spot, everyone was super cool and generally excited to have me there. My favorite part of the visit was probably when I first got to the hotel."

"We headed to the restaurant inside and a few Longhorn fans were at the bar. They actually knew who I was and wanted to take pictures with me, it was insane. They wanted to hang out and talk Texas football, that has never happened on any of the other visits I’ve been on. I definitely had a home vibe there, like I was where I was supposed to be."

“Yeah I got to know them (Texas coaches) well there and I like them a lot,” Bunkley-Shelton said. “I spent a lot of time with coach Drew (Mehringer) on my visit and I also spent some quality time with coach Herman. We toured the facilities and he showed me the plans for the updated DKR Stadium and it’s going to be bananas. I also did a photo shoot and chilled in the players lounge."

"I had some intense games of ping pong with coach Drew, he beat me but I promised him the next time I’m out there, I’m going to beat him. Scheme fit is another plus. They have some big receivers but they told me they want a route runner that catches everything and I feel I’m the best in the country at both of those things. I like coach Beck’s offense a lot and feel I would fit in really well there."

“Texas is a very realistic option for me,” Bunkley-Shelton said. “I feel we’re on the same page in terms of what I can bring to the team and what they want out of me. I’m confident I could do big things there and develop in to the player and person I want to be down the road. This was definitely one of my best visits and I’ll be back for an official visit for sure."

"I’m going to take all my official visits in the fall and then announce at the All-American Bowl. I really like Washington and USC a lot and Arizona State is still up there for me as well. Ohio State still wants me to visit too, even with all the receiver commits but I'm not sure about that right now. Like I said, I need to cut my list down a bit and then I'll go from there."

A few notes from OrangeBloods...

-they're saying there's a growing confidence from sources that UT will be landing RB Bijan Robinson of Tucson, AZ on Friday.

-on S Chris Thompson, Jr. of Duncanville, they (and other sites) believe Auburn is making things interesting behind the scenes and the race a lot closer than it seems.

-there's another recruit out there who could be close to a decision who hasn't previously set a commitment date.

Thank you. I don’t have access and was going off of Screenshots pulled from rivals/eleven warriors. Did you happen to see anything on there from Andrew Ellis? He’s the only tOSU guy with any sensibility. I’m also not sure how rivals and EW is connected and what is behind a paywall over there.

This kid Jerrin Thompson just received his offer this week. I don’t understand how he wasn’t recruited earlier. His film is outstanding. Highly suggest you check the link below. He’s incredible. Balls skills are great. He hits like a truck. He’s good. Real good. He’s the same kid that tweeted “I’m up next” after the Juan Davis announcement.

The Chris Thompson smoke is starting to get thicker and thicker. That his dad favors Auburn is beyond me. How does that work? Your kid wants to play in Texas with his friends where he grew up and attend a much better school, both academically and athletically but you want to push him 700 miles away to one of the most back assward states in the country. There’s only one thing I can think of that would make a parent do this. I’m not even mad bc I understand it happens a lot but I’m genuinely interested in knowing a dollar amount. Are we talking $10k? $20k? $50k? I guess if you have to ask, you couldn’t afford it. Just weird.

At this point I’m just hoping JQJ stays in the fold. I could see schools coming for him after seeing CTJr. be a silent to UT for so long and then going to Auburn. “Why are you going to a school that already has a QB committed that can’t play another position? Come here and we’ll let you play QB. Texas is going to try to turn you into a LB...”

Samples leaving was inevitably going to happen sooner or later but the impact is immediate. David Beatty needs to figure his shit out, and fast.

Honestly, it'd be a lot more difficult for me to do two threads and keep everything organized for y'all.

If it's something that the majority wants, we can discuss it but I feel the current format allows for everyone to start reading from where they left off and not miss anything, plus we have all of the info on the first page for reference.

I don't know how to do a poll on here?

The final week approaches and murmurs of Au$urn come out of left field.. the announcement then gets delayed due to a conflict... murmurs come out with Chris wanting to stay in Texas and his father pushing out of state... then murmurs come out that the conflict was due to a delay in taping the commitment video

Am I crazy to think this delay in commitment video is more like re-do a commitment video for a different university?

Thats what we fear but that’s the nature of recruiting. At this time last week CTJR was 100% Texas and Bijan just the opposite and now those trends have completely reversed. Still hope we land them both but looking tougher now.

Rumors have suggested since Ja'Quinden committed that Thompson, Jr. was the guy on the other end of that phone call, and he made his commitment video around the same time.

If any of that is true, and the delay is because of his commitment video, then that would lead one to believe he's making a new one.

Good news is reports have Thompson, Jr. being the one who wants to go to Texas, but I'd be lying if I said I was feeling good.

2021 QB Jalen Milroe mentioned on social media he thinks UT could be landing a 2021 LB this weekend.

I really wasn't.

Got up to feed my son and just felt like reading a bit.

Haha!! Good shit. I loved doing that. That’s good time with mini’s. Hope you got him full fat and happy.

The JJ Hester offer shuts down any rumors of a non-committable offer. Herman’s always said that if he offers a kid, it’s a real offer and they’d take that commitment. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of Hester but I’m not a coach, so..
