Why and or how do they use Hutto ISD buses? Won't they be unavailable after next week?

Who was that short RB that played for blOwU and terrorized Texas for 4 straight years. He was in the stoops era but before Peterson? Another great comparison is Darren Sporles, same build and same combination of elusiveness and power. That is who Ty Jordan reminds me of. I hope we get him. I've always loved those short backs that can hide behind a big offensive line and then explode into the secondary before the linebackers can get to them.

Holy crap....I'm pulling for this kid, but my God is he snake bitten. Kirk just cant catch a break.
They were saying yesterday on the Horn that even though the staff has been saying all offseason that Kirk would be getting meaningful carries, Daniel Young was getting most of the RB3 looks at practice. Obviously really early but..

Per Roach’s late night notes:
-Things trending UT’s way for Ty Jordan. (He got another UT cb this morning.) Expect decision before the season.
- Temple WR Quentin Johnston is close to deciding. UT/TCU race. If Roach has to guess it’d be Texas but that could that could change (lol ok).

The Brainiacs had an update on Eaton this morning and they (Super K) said UT could still push. IT said they were done yesterday.

Roach said Clayton Smith isn’t looking to decide anytime soon. UT among his favs with arky and LSU.
On the two DL studs from Pleasant Grove: Burris really likes A&M and they’re currently his fav. ”Big lead” is the word he used. Jackson wants to visit for LSU game and get a better feel of Todd Orlando. Has good relationship with Herman and Giles.

I agree. I think the staff probably pushed for Pouncey because they wanted him in the class before Eaton. I’d guess they like Eaton as a CB3. I’m cool with that bc Ringo isn’t likely and next years in state class is lacking corners.

If we get the guys we are currently trending for on the 247 site, I think it is 6 guys
Collins
Jordan
J Thompson
Buckley-Sheldon
Hester
Johnston
That would give us 19 commitments and a overall score of 279.66 which by last years standards would put Texas at 6th nationally. I'm pretty sure we will not stop at 19, I'm thinking 20 or 21 is my guess. Anything after 20 is going to be someone we flip and it will be someone really good. That is my prediction.

With six open spaces on roster and twelve Srs. any number above that would require attrition. Which will happen just hare to lose anyone. My numbers could be wrong if so please correct me.

Hosted by: Eric Nahlin and Justin Wells
2020 notes:
-probably have a class of 21-23. Will be able to pick and choose from ‘21 class.
-Bijan Robinson: biggest get in class besides Broughton. Drayton was the key cog in his recruitment and the one who sold Bijans grandfather. Compared personality to Roschon Johnson.
-Ty Jordan: small and fast but he’s thicker. Prob 5’7 185ish right now. Compare to Eno Benjamin. Very good RB2/slotback take. Will catch a lot of balls out of backfield. Commit prob coming before end of month. Drew Mehringer is primary recruiter. Also very close with Beck.
WR recruiting:
-Quentin Johnston. OU is out, TCU is in. Malcolm Kelly is doing a great job at TCU on selling Johnston as being the next Jalen Raegor. Wells said he felt TCU may have slight lead.
-JJ Hester: Nahlin likes him a lot. Waiting for best school to recruit him hard and he’ll prob go there.
-LV Bunkley Shelton: Wells felt like there is a good chance he ends up at UT.
-Johnny Wilson: still expecting to see him for an OV at LSU game. Scared people are gonna try to make him a TE but Texas took Epps and did the opposite so that helps. They still felt like he stays with UO but felt like UT has punchers chance if Collin Johnson has a good year.
O-Line:
Probably done here unless a 5-star kid wants in. ‘21 is too stacked to load up in 2020. “#SaveTheShip”
D-Line:
Oscar Giles doing very well this season.
-Alfred Collins: Nahlin felt like he could commit at any time despite saying he wants to take all visits and it’d be UT.
-Princely Umanmielen: wants to play in 4 man front but UT will put him at 4i. He still really likes UT and they had the feeling he wants to be in this class and would already be if it weren’t for the 3-4 hybrid defense. Still felt like it’d be UT or A&M.
LB recruiting:
They’re not sure what the staff is doing here.
-Josh White:
Nahlin said:May come to LSU game but prob just to see his future team play. Not likely that he’ll flip. UT was a little late. Fam from Louisiana. Could possibly flip if we crush LSU. Demond Demas cousin.
Wells said: he thinks UT could flip him.
CB recruiting:
-Ethan Pouncely: plenty fast. Long. Can really hit despite being light in the ass.
Staff would still take Ringo or Jahari Rogers but prob done here.
Safety recruiting:
-Jerrin Thompson: very smart. Great instincts. Imagine a shorter Caden Sterns at nickel. Decision will come soon. Likes where UT sits with him. Offered early and would be taken by LSU and Notre Dame.
-Xavion Alford: Smaller side. Field safety. Great leader. Great ball skills. UT working its way back to the top of his list.
Will still try to flip Ransom and they felt like if there’s a chance to flip anyone, it’s Ransom or CTJr. Naivar won’t give up on him. Naivar won’t give up on CTJr. Depth chart hurts UT here just bc we’re loaded.
2021 recruiting:
-Keep watching out for WR JoJo Earl. Prob sit at top of CB Ishmael Ibraheem’s list. Will have to figure out a way to slow down the train just bc you want more film on prospects but the staff is making sure to get the early leg up on the top talent.
The rest of the podcast was practice analysis and team notes.

Perroni from A&M 24/7 just put in an A&M crystal ball for S Xavion Alford of Pearland Shadow Creek.
I don't know what he's hearing, but at the very least I'd say that means he believes CB Joshua Eaton will be committing to them.

Pouncey no doubt is the preferred take, but not by much. Eaton has a higher ceiling, IMO. His measurables are A+. He just needs time to develop where Pouncey may be more ready up front to contribute.

yeah, thanks from me as well, Harvey. Great work.
I still don't quite get what the near-perpetual problem with our LB corps we've had so many years now. Not every year, of course, but the vast majority, and that was really the case a lot of years even under Mack in many of his earlier, good years.
Part of the issue seems to be that our DC usually has to coach the LB's and often not having much LB-specific coaching in his past (at least not where he's splitting between DC and LB).
Another issue c/b simply the style of play in the Big 12 that lends itself much less to traditional LB and also to more DB's needed on the field.
Even so, this is Orlando's third year--it's definitely to where he should be really zeroing in on his type of fits for this conference.

Regarding linebacker talk - De’Gabriel Floyd being injured is a huge loss, IMO. Best linebacker since Jordan Hicks potentially
I think McCulloch and Ossai have big years. Would’ve been nice to have them & Floyd together at the same time though

My pleasure. I like being able to come here and get away from the politics, bs, general fkry that you can’t get away from anywhere else. Floss is the man for keeping this thing going.
On the LB recruiting.. I don’t really know what the plan is but most sites and “insiders” have hinted that the staff has something up their sleeves. I don’t really understand why nobody can reveal this but I guess in due time we’ll be able to see the bigger/clearer picture. Reading from different sites makes me believe that Herman does have an ace in the hole and is playing with one helluva poker face. We did get Dorbah but we’re lacking that force in the middle. I will say that Ive learned to have more faith in Herman since the complete 180 they pulled with Bijan and tOSU. I believe they know what they’re doing even if it’s not evident to guys like us. Maybe they have a JUCO kid like Gary Johnson lined up and they can’t talk about it for reasons unknown... I can usually get a good idea of what’s going on just by reading the tea leaves on all the pay sites but I’m clueless here. Clueless but optimistic.

Per usual, I’ll just include the recruiting discussion notes. Had a lot of good practice notes but that’s all widely published everywhere you care to look. I try to stick with the theme of the thread but the other stuff they talked about was good too.
-Derrick Harris
Joseph Ossai type. B-backer. Force off the edge. Extremely explosive for his size. Shows how important the b-backer position is. Staff felt they were in a good position but expected him to announce sometime next year. Went ahead and committed after he saw the momentum Texas was building with Milroe, Hayden, Bowman, etc..
Bijan Robinson:
Everything up to a week before his announcement was pointing to tOSU. Drayton got Robinson in the fold definitively after the end of dead period, before that he was going to tOSU. Drayton felt the pressure to get him and was paying attention to the noise. 6’0 200lb but has a low center of gravity. His quickness (ability to juke/cut) is elite but his acceleration after the cut is what makes him a 5-star. Extremely sudden. Not a lot of power (run you over) but he doesn’t have to. Vision is great and that’s obvious for a RB but his ability to move into those lanes is rare.
Ty Jordan:
Outstanding RB class with this guy. Beat out USC, again. Short but he’s a lot thicker than what film shows. Muscular twitchy kid. Will motion from backfield to slot.
Chris Thompson Jr:
Had UT all the way until his video announcement. Auburn had conceded (whatever that means in recruiting) to UT. Joe and Will weren’t buying Auburn noise. Thought it was just to build suspense. Will be hard to replicate bc he was such a specific fit. (Didn’t say whether they felt UT would keep pursuing hard. I feel like they will just bc of the amount of work they put in and it doesn’t fit with all of his friends and teammates seemingly going to Texas.)
Ethan Pouncey:
Nobody saw it coming. (I think the staff probably pushed for him bc they felt Eaton was leaning UT and knew he was announcing soon and they liked Pouncey more. But Joe and Will didn’t say this. Just kind of makes sense from my limited view.) Willingness and ability to come up and hit despite having a slight frame. Elite ballhawk with great length. Needs to add some weight and keep hitting. Bring him to UT and send him to Yancy. Rare ability to position himself to make a play.
Josh Eaton:
Unclear whether UT would take him. Still a close battle b/t us and a&m. Didn’t know how Pouncey would effect his decision. (They made it sound like UT would take his commitment but aren’t going to push really hard now that Pouncey is in. I think they should bc like texas4ever mentioned, Eaton has elite athletic ability and next years cb class is pretty shallow.)
Ringo: You can hope in one hand and shit in the other. See which one fills up first.
Kind of a down year in the state for corner. Kimber is a take, Jaylon Jones was a take, ... UT at some point made the decision to go out of state to look for that second guy.

Best of the West podcast with Blair Angulo and Brandon Huffman (Notes)
most of this podcast is about other recruits not related to UT. It’s a 1hr17min long. The Bijan portion is short though for those wanting to hear it for themselves or get a feel for the kid. I think the staff is going to have to stay on him.
Link: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/247sportsrecruiting?selected=CBS3843966994 (https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/247sportsrecruiting?selected=CBS3843966994)
Bijan Robinson interview: (Starts at 10:10)
First thing that comes to mind is family. Loved Drayton as God fearing man. Likes Draytons pedigree of success. Drayton cried when Bijan committed. “Ima be honest with you, he cried. Like tears.” Loves outside/inside zone. Loves being receiver out of backfield. He likes being a “do it all back.” Talked and still talk lot to Smith and Liebrock. Asked whether he would take any more officials or if he’s done Bijan said, “I might take those two... I want to get out to LSU... I’m not sure about the other one yet but yeah, I want to get out to LSU.” Hosts said recruitment might not be over. Hosts bet that he’d take his two remaining, LSU being one of those.

Although they previously reported that the UT staff wants only two CBs, Inside Texas is now hearing the number is definitely three.
Same goes for the safety position with Jerrin Thompson potentially filling the nickel spot.
They mentioned Texas is pushing for S Xavion Alford, but in order to get him, they believe the coaches need to start pushing for CB Joshua Eaton ASAP.
They compared the situation to LB David Gbenda last year where Eaton will go to the first school out of A&M and UT that pushes for him.

-Staff may push for Eaton bc of his ties to Alford. They are good friends (not to say Eaton is meh, but the staff understands have one in the class helps with the other.) They’re staying in it for Alford.
-UT looking good for Jerrin Thompson. Expect that to happen in the next 7 days or so. (We heard that about 7 days ago).
-Still working on Thompson Jr and Bryson Washington but both will be very difficult to flip.
-some optimism that UT could flip J. Rogers. Optimism that the Latham Random story isn’t done yet. Need Ransom to come to the LSU game. That could start his recruitment all over again.
-WR Q. Johnston will decide before the season. Coin flip at best where he goes.
-Next Commits: Jerrin T, Ty Jordan,
-Kelvin Joseph might visit but favorite to land at UF. (UF is a dirty program. They’re doing shit dirty. I have no proof but they’re basically shopping the transfer portal like it’s an all you can carry sale at Ross dept store.)

Couple ‘21 notes from IT:
-Burris is going to a&m. (They didn’t say that, but they said that.)
-Landon Jackson likely head to a&m too but he wants to play OLB and UT is hard selling him on that. Orlando personally taking Landons recruitment.
-”Assuming A&M lands both, that should help Texas with Tunmise Adeleye, who is going to Texas kicking and screaming.”
———-
This isn’t the first time IT has boasted their confidence in landing Adeleye. He must have his mom or dad or something controlling his recruitment and they’re intent on seeing him at UT. I don’t know why but IT is very confident.

What the hell... This is a Big 12 coach commenting on us. Im sure you can find other accurate deficiencies besides this...
"That defense runs a lot of stuff through their secondary. They play a lot of nickel, but their corners and safeties haven't really been great. Replacing their secondary and their defensive line will be interesting. This is the year for Tom where you test your depth and your development. He can recruit, but Charlie Strong could too."

This was informative for me.
Beck said Ehlinger was lighter this year.
I think this is a good development.
What, he was get close to 240 lbs at 6'1" ? I cant see this as an ideal body on a QB. He has very good footwork straightline on a run. He can get the defender off balance and then bang him. But having a little burst across the field would be nice. I remember him getting chased and having to move away from the line of scrimmage to avoid the sack and having to throw while retreating. I would like him to run into throws outside the box.

Texas is doing really good. Of the top 15 national rankings we have the least commits with 13 the next least amount is 17 which is aggies and some others. Also we only trail Clemson in average per player at 93.27. Just edge out Bama for second, pretty great class so far.

very interesting, I know Braun is cross training at Center. I'm wondering if he is going to red shirt? I think Kerrstetter is destined to end his career at guard, but we need a tackle to step up and take the position. I just don't see Okafor as a tackle, he is built to play guard and that is where he is going to excel. Hopefully Reese Moore will step up and take the right tackle spot.
Here is a telling sign, if Parker Braun doesn't play in the opening game he is a strong candidate to redshirt.

That was supposedly the case bc they are close friends. With Alford’s crystal balls going to a&m lately you’d assume Eaton will follow. I don’t know that I trust TexAgs on anything. The only a&m guys that have any cred is Brauninger and Perroni and even then, perroni is a pretty big homer.

I think everyone will want it to be Q. Johnston but I think it’s Eaton.

M Goodwin ran a 4.27 for thrrd or fourth place in NFL timings.

I like him a lot too. He’s a really good looking prospect. Fast, twitchy, and hard to tackle.

IT recruiting notebook: (cliff notes)
-Quentin Johnston:
Didn’t say a whole lot about which way he was leaning. At or near the top of the WR board. “After his dunk contest exploits at Stars at Night, this recruitment was nearing its end.” (I guess that’s good news??? I don’t know what they are trying to say here.)
Ty Jordan:
Fast. Bowling ball. 10.5 100m time (That’s fast. Especially for short legs. For reference, Tyler Owens ran a personal best 10.29 and took the silver at state). USC and Tenn are after him hard. Expect decision soon. Wells put it at 86% to us.
JJ Hester:
Timing is the key with him. Wants to commit at his teams week 2 pep rally. Wells said, “I wonder what this class looks like by then. He better be watching.”
Jaxon Smith-Njigba:
tOSU commit. Didn’t understand why the staff didn’t recruit him earlier (and IT didn’t say who reached out to whom). 37” vertical (pretty good) 3.91 shuttle (elite). Compared to Sloan Thomas. Possible X or H if he came to UT. In a class of 3-4 WR he’s absolutely a take. May want to stay close to home. It’s possible he’s a flip candidate.

UT may know he's SEC bound, maybe he didn't reciprocate enough interest, etc.

He must have been hit by Leon Oneal.
Seriously, as bad as it sounds, he could be fine and continue to play. Keep in mind that Theisman was well over 30 years old when he broke his leg, Cupp is 18, Young guys are more apt to recover from a thing like this provided the break isn't a symptom of something more. Good luck to him, I wish him a speedy recovery.

The latest on S Xavion Alford of Pearland Shadow Creek from A&M 24/7:
"I still think it will be A&M but he may not have a decision by the end of this week as I had been reporting. I also would have said with over 90% certainty this past weekend that it was going to be A&M. I'm not as confident now."

They expect him to side with Texas on Friday, and if that happens, they expect multiple pieces of good news this week.

The only thing I can think of is that it was heat related or a stinger. I can’t think of anything else that would cause the staff to call EMS and then Watkins be released in a relatively short amount of time with no severe symptoms/injuries. They’ve proven that they’re not going to be caught with their pants down on the heat casualties with how they handled Patrick Hudson’s situation. And I can see them not allowing Watkins to move and waiting for an ambulance if they thought he may have suffered a spinal injury.

Hornscast Podcast recruiting notes:
(Honestly this episode kind of sucked. I think Roach is struggling without EJ. It didn’t help that Howe didn’t stay on topic and kept talking about the team/current players during the recruiting segment. I think it’s because the class is almost complete and we’re about to see recruiting slow way down, at least for the ‘20 class.)
Airdate: 8/13/19
Hosts: Mike Roach & Jeff Howe (recruiting segment)
Link: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/longhorn-blitz/id1279981104#episodeGuid=ac90e038-be3c-11e9-8c59-175c42006a8f (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/longhorn-blitz/id1279981104#episodeGuid=ac90e038-be3c-11e9-8c59-175c42006a8f)
Recruiting starts at 50min mark of the podcast (roughly 35min of recruiting content).
Princely Umanmielen:
Had issues with 3 man front. A&M was selling him on being Myles Garrett. UT sold him on path to nfl being at the 4 tech like Malcolm Roach.
Ethan Pouncey:
8 Int w/ 3 returned for TDs in junior year. Auburn was thought to lead when he committed. Great ball skills. May have best junior film in class. Really good kid like his brother. Tall and range-y.
Jerrin Thompson:
4.61 40yd, 4.2 shuttle. Texas could have probably had him earlier but wanted to evaluate more.
Linebacker recruiting:
Brennon Scott was told by staff they didn’t have room. He was seen as b-backer. UT should be done at linebacker with just Dorbah. We took 5 guys (assuming De’Gabriel Floyd returns) last year. (I still think we need more guys at the second level to help the elite d-line talent we’re bring in to stop the run game. I don’t feel like you can play football well with a bunch of 200lb safeties playing in the box on top of your d-line. I know it’s a passing league in the big 12 but OU will run the ball up your ass if you’re hoping to stop them with safeties. Not at all saying the staff doesn’t know what they’re doing, I’m just saying I’m not overly confident that we should be done recruiting run stopping linebackers bc the only guy we’ve signed, Dorbah, isn’t a run stopper.
DL Notes:
Alfred Collins or bust. Nobody outside of a Bryan Bresee type will be taken.
OL Notes:
Done at o-line barring any 5-stars wanting in.
WR Notes:
Quentin Johnston is considered the prize on UTs board. Javian Hester leaning UT and staff would prob take his commitment at this point. (There were no LV Bunkley-Shelton updates. No updates on Johnny Wilson.)
‘20 class odds/ends:
Roach said Ty Jordan, Q. Johnston, Collins, Hester, Eaton, Alford, and Bunkley-Shelton should be the end of the class (22 commits assuming we land all 7 of those kids. This would put us at 287.22 points. Top 5-7 ranked class.) Roach said he wants people to understand that the staff knows what they’re doing. Fans shouldn’t get down next year when things are slow/quiet. What’s happening now (the momentum we’re seeing) was the plan all along. Staff wanted to go hard in July/Aug to give themselves time to evaluate and complete the class before the season started so they can focus on football rather than recruiting. 2-3 new commitments by this time next week. Kids are starting to believe in Herman and what he’s doing. Expect this kind of recruiting success and the same evaluation tactics/time period the next few years. Staff isn’t really worried about A&M/Jimbo, they’re going to get the majority of these kids in head to head battles with A&M.
Edit: I’m not a professional note-taker and I’m most definitely not an insider. I try to ensure that I’m not putting words in the mouths of the analysts. Blast away if you think I missed the gist of what was said.

texas will always be the first choice of most recruits in the state of texas as it's the marquee name. for a&m to have better years, they will have to have great seasons at the same time that texas comes off a bad one, or they will have to benefit from sort of brief trend. being in austin also helps in regards to some kids, especially when it comes to race. not that austin is the shining beacon for racial equality but compared to college station, it's utopia.

while a&m's front seven is a good as it's been in years, especially in the interior, the ags are still in need of more edge rushers. that, and depth at the LB positions.

I agree but the SEC allure is always going to be working against us and a&m is the only school in the most talent rich state that can offer that. I should have expounded more on Mikes take. He more or less was saying that UT would win the majority of these battles but not to expect to see a battle for every kid bc there are a lot that both schools won’t be fighting for.

And Princely is a DT if not a 4tech. I think UT just did a better job of convincing him that there’s still a path to the nfl that way and he’s not going to succeed as an edge rusher in college station.

i agree. there are legacies and such, and then some kids that gravitate more towards a certain scene or culture. i think a&m does great with more rural kids and usually has. in some cases it's all about football and, in others. it's about the campus and what the differing schools have to offer. i will say, though, that the contrasts between the universities are not as stark as they once were. btw, really enjoying your posts!

princely reminds me of mark jackson from steele who had originally committed to a&m and then went over to OU. i could never figure out what to make of him because he was so quick on the edge but not very physical. he's been off and on at OU and even placed at the outside LB spot at times. it may be in princely's best interest to bulk up and play the interior and i guess that is what the UT recruiters were able to sell him on.
