Wheaton is a Jamal Charles Clone at this point in respective careers. He just needs a crease and he is gone. He has some crazy speed. His announcement is 2 years away we have a lot of time to both win him and lose him. I personally think Samples will be back by the time he is a senior.

that breaks a very long drought in regards to signing recruits from north shore.
Good get for them. They better tighten up and not suck this year or decommit season is going to be long and painful.
with the schedule that a&m has, and most of the tougher games on the road, i would not be surprised with a 7-5 season. the key is whether or not the commits can be convinced that the team is on the right path, should this be more or less how a&m fares this season. and that's not an easy task in the cases of some players.

From Angulo on 24/7:
"Bijan got caught up in the Ohio State buzz and hype, with Lathan Ransom leaning there and him thinking that could be his destination as well. He told me it took him some time to drown out the noise and get back to focusing on what he wanted in a school and Texas checked off more boxes. He felt pressure from Ohio State to commit. He didn't feel as much pressure from Texas. Sometimes it's as simple as that for recruits that are more low-key than others."

Clean sweeping the top Dline recruits would shut up a local poster who was predicting nothing but 2'stars for Texas because of Giles. As long as we get Collins I'm a happy tail gater.
Just a few months ago, I had 3 guys I really wanted, that I felt were must gets. Broughton, Robinson, and Ringo. Amazing job by the staff getting Robinson and Broughton. If they can pull in Ringo, man o man this going to be a fantastic class.
Justin Flowe has a top 4 and Texas isn't in it. With that said, there is always room for a 5th visit, get Texas into the top 4 for a playoff spot and we might get that 5th visit. BOMC will not let us down.

Different positions, but this could possibly make the staff re-adjust their DB board based on who's available.
I believe they're trying to keep Eaton warm as long as possible, and they were able to get him off his commitment timeline.

The University of Texas needs to understand the game is changing and the NCAA is looking away more and more. LSU alum is going to jail for giving embezzled money to a recruit's family and the NCAA isn't lifting a finger. What does that say about the game right now?
Either Texas wants to field a winning team or they/we are going to have to be content with losing recruits to schools willing to pay them under the table.
It isn't going to stop there, it will come a time when the best coaching candidates will start to see Texas as a no win situation because of the moral standards placed on a program that exists in a game without morals or standards.

You really think that Texas alums don’t do this AKA $100 hand shakes. I highly doubt a top 3 coaching job will one day become a no win situation due to “high” moral standards.

Keep in mind, $100 hand shakes are not the same as buying recruits. Yes, I know we have Alum giving out the $100 hand shakes. What we don't have is Alumni sending recruits envelopes with Thousands of dollars in order to get their services.
I'm not saying we should, I'm just saying that we need to get used to losing top level recruits because schools in the SEC are paying recruits like they were NFL free Agents if we don't accept that the rules aren't being enforced.

I've known college football players from the 80's and early 90's that have told me about the 100 dollar hand shakes. Not just at Texas but at places like Clemson, Louisiana tech, Utah, A&M, and Texas state. The Texas guys were under McWilliams and Mackovic.
Don't kid yourself, this stuff doesn't happen by the big guys like Red, it is the small guys with lots of money and the need to stroke their ego by hanging with football players at mixers. Think about it.
I worked with a guy that played linebacker at Notre Dame, he never made it in the NFL, but he told me that he would go to these after game mixers and if he made a big tackle he knew he was going to have guys handing him hundreds of dollars. He said one game he made several big plays and that night he got over $4800 just from congrats by alumni.
If you don't think those things happen at Texas, you are fooling yourself.

I want it on record. Not anecdotal.
Come out and say who did when, where, why, how much etc...
Also I thought they implemented rules about these events that got alumni and kids together.
So when this happens now, I want it up for all to see. Not just I know a guy who told me... There is a ton of bragging and embellishment that goes on in sports. From athletes as well.
And yes I believe it. I just want it talked about and written up if possible. The Straight dope. We stand behind the story. Because if we do need to cheat on the level of some of these SEC (Mississippi etc...) schools, I’m out.
The dream for me is someday we have a squad of good players that are better at other things win a national championship and turn down an NFL that has turned unpopular and less lucrative than a job not involving entertainment. I will most likely die before this happens. The sun will probably have enveloped the Earth before anything like this happens.

from bits and pieces over the years, I'd say this is about right. Not saying we've never, ever bought any recruits, because that's just a little too orange-tinted a viewpoint. But I agree that by and large we simply don't operate that way.
Yet, also tend toward the notion that we at least---some boosters, some way, some time--have given the ol' "buddy handshakes" that are more than a nice word.
Seems to be human nature in this game. Football, even at the college level, from way back, has had all kinds of 'games' going on behind the scenes.
I do believe that if Texas were to play that game like some schools, say in the SEC, do, we'd be a total powerhouse and sometimes unstoppable.
I'm not advocating this: try the best we can to do it reasonably straight up and true and see what happens. However, if the landscape becomes too impure to compete effectively, then I am not necessarily closing the door on doing things like some of those other schools.

The argument about cheating being accepted in the SEC is based on the fact the schools are so demographically similar and so closely located to each other. For many kids, going to school at Tennessee is no different than UGA, Fla, Auburn, etc. The schools have have different traditions, but they unquestioningly are of a monolithic culture. In order to get athletics recruits to choose one of three (or more) essentially identical options, money is introduced into the equation.
Not all schools are essentially indistinguishable from almost every other school in their conference. Texas is sufficiently different from A&M, OU, Baylor, Tech, etc, that Texas doesn't necessarily have to cheat, or cut corners in other manners. My argument has long been that A&M's differentiators act as a negative in recruiting, and therefore A&M has long had to offer inducuments such as money, not having to attend classes, no drug testing, no suspensions for arrests, etc.
There unquestionably have been some overzealous UT boosters in the past, but the differentiators of the UT Austin athletics programs are sufficient enough to sway most student-athletes who would fit well within the UT culture. If they don't get "it" and essentially want to be paid from Day 1 at UT, they are going to be more drama than they will ever be worth, and won't fit in on the UT campus.

Probably most accurate. I have no idea who gets what money but Randolph is an accounting/financial guru and understands the economics of college athletics and university endowments as much as anyone. Some of the stuff he puts on twitter makes it really easy for laymen to understand. As for players receiving improper benefits/handouts, $100 handshakes don’t amount to buying cars and houses for kids or their families.

I agree 100%. I'm just saying that we have to accept the fact that other schools are doing it and know the NCAA will do nothing about it, so we are either going to have to follow suit or accept that we are going to lose recruits to schools who will offer recruits money.

I'm at this point as well. If college football lurches toward being a semi-pro league, then I'm pretty much done. I still go to the AAA baseball games in Round Rock for the entertainment but I dont follow it very much. Another thing that will cause me to lose a lot of interest is if Texas joins a conference that is half way across the country. Having a few games within driving distance (not as many as when they were in the SWC) is a way to keep local fan interest. I'm too old to get on a plane to only go watch a game when OTOH I can cram a gaggle of kids into a car and go watch a D3 game (UMHB in Belton) and have a great time.

All I watch for professional football really are the Cowboys. And its a destructive thing ever since I heard they were God's team at church as a kid. It was not a joke.

knew a couple that were heavily involved in UT athletics (highly popular web site, pre-game booths, fund-raisers, etc) and were great friends with Cory Redding, the Gatorade High School National Player of the Year. Redding, for all those accolades, drove around in his years at UT in a horrible jalopy, something almost dangerous to drive.

I just realized I quoted a bad source that pops up on this thread occasionally and is then deleted .
Sorry, sometimes I just read and don’t look who the poster is.

Billy Bowman:
Super athlete. Great speed. He ran a 10.8 100m last year as sophomore. A bigger/thicker D’Shawn Jamison. Dad is a coach at Ryan (Billy Bowman Sr.) and he’s a great culture fit. (Former UT player Alex De La Torre is the OL coach at Ryan. Alex’s father is also a DE coach at Ryan and his younger brother, Kolt, is also a big OL player there.) Best fit for Billy is nickel back on defense. Teammates with top 100 prospect in the ‘21 class Ja’Tavion Sanders.

This was the only recruiting portion they had. They mostly talked about the upcoming season and I didn’t include those notes because I think everyone has their own people they prefer to read and/or listen to.

Per 24/7, UT coaches are putting in a lot of work with S Xavion Alford of Pearland Shadow Creek.
They're hearing the Alabama buzz surrounding him at The Opening Finals at the beginning of July has faded, and Texas is hanging around.
https://247sports.com/Player/Xavion-Alford-46051445/
he's a hell of a player. charlie bruce (wagner head coach) had told me how much they had to game plan for him. as well as wagner ran their version of the split T option , and as difficult as it is to defend, alford was a beast against it. not sure why bama has backed off on him. i don't know much about how he performed at the opening.

I take this as good.

Still a long way to go. It’s going to be a marathon for that kid and I’m 100% glad we don’t have to be in that race. I will say this though, no way he goes to UGA while Milton is there. I still think it’ll eventually be Bama or LSU. Great talent, but he’s not worth the drama. He’s not Adrian Peterson, no matter how hard they keep trying to make the comparison.

Everybody has gone kind of silent on the Jerrin Thompson recruitment. He’s supposedly just waiting for his video to be done and the last I read on IT was that it was supposed to be done no later than this week. I’d guess he’s probably the next ‘20 guy to join the class. TCU is the only other competition for him per Roach.

Huge pickup IMO. He is a true corner and has the ability and size to be a lock down corner.
If Jerrin Thompson commits it will push Texas up to #8 nationally ahead the Ags. And Texas has only 3 3'star commitments. That's pretty impressive since Texas still would have 3 fewer commitments than the ags.

Tunmise is constantly in Princely’s shit. For those not up to speed, Princely asked twitter what his new nickname should be a couple weeks ago and Tunmise chimed in with a response of “4i Princely” (see below tweet). Princely absolutely hates the idea of playing the 4i technique (inside the T in a 3 man front). This is supposedly why a&m was thought to be his leader a few weeks/months ago. They’re selling him on the idea of playing the traditional rush end type and he does not fit that mold at all.

Inside Texas believes UT is done at CB unless Jahari Rogers wants to flip down the road.
They still believe Rogers will be in Austin soon once the August dead period ends.
