I think a big reason for a lot of empty seats is that Spurs fans take the regular season for granted. Everyone is used to the Spurs making the playoffs. SA is all Spurs since there's really no other top tier sports franchises. Almost everyone keeps up with the spurs. Of course it doesn't have the history of the Lakers or Celtics but there's still a close connection between the city and the team/players.

That's basically how Kawhi is in one on one interviews and the intro presser showcases how he is in group formats. He obviously hates the attention and speaking on anything not related to basketball. I feel sorry for him (to an extent) cause going to LA is going to be so much of an adjustment for him. The Raptors media will likely take it easy on him cause they are trying to keep him but if he signs in LA next summer he is going to get more than he bargained for.

He may be able to put on this little farce to rehab his image for a few months but he just isn't the social butterfly his group needs him to be to pull off whatever they have in mind. He is a great player who is used to letting his play on court do all the talking but it takes much more to get his brand to the heights they want. Curry, Klay Thompson, LeBron, Harden, Westbrook, etc all have more personality in their pinkies then Kawhi has in general.

His own family has always described him as quiet and humble. Teammates, coaches, players around the league always talk about how quiet he is. I've lived here all my life bro. I'm not saying people in san Antonio don't love the spurs, it's just that san Antonio as a whole is not a sports city where people are enamored with and obsessed with sports compared to other cities I've been where they get excited with even regular season games like golden state or Oklahoma. I guess people here value more spending the nite out with family and doing other stuff besides watching sports. (The reason i say that in san antonio high school football takes the first spot in people hearts because its closer and more intimate than pro sports to people here and it goes inline with san Antonio's conservative familial reputation.)

From what i seen from bars around the city and people in general is that they dont rowdy till the end of the season(esp important games) and obviously the playoffs. You'll see a couple of generation x/millinials sports geeks cheering them throughout the long season at restaurant/bars, but for the most part people there are more concerned with their significant other and food/drinks than the spurs. I think a big reason for a lot of empty seats is that Spurs fans take the regular season for granted. Everyone is used to the Spurs making the playoffs. SA is all Spurs since there's really no other top tier sports franchises. Almost everyone keeps up with the spurs. Of course it doesn't have the history of the Lakers or Celtics but there's still a close connection between the city and the team/players.

Kawhi wasn't efficient in the first several games but that had to do with rust mainly from not having his conditioning .I would say even the report card just shows he was rusty. He was terrible in 3 categories Off-the Ball Movement, Roll Gravity, and offensive rebounding. All 3 have to do with conditioning and rust. He had his mobility from what I saw. He made some amazing plays through out the video which you can't make if your quad is really fucked up. Ironically he stopped playing once he was back to a 100 percent which happened after the Nuggets game.

I have been a spurs fan since Willie Anderson was picked to be a Spur out of Georgia. That was a year before David Robinson played his 1st game as a Spur. I don't live in SA. I moved in 2014, many games are actually too late for me to watch. I mentioned I may start watching east teams more, particularly if the Spurs don't hold my interest. Right now I am interested to see how they start, and I think they will be better than projected bc frankly the media has gone too far predicting their demise. They have a lot of uncertainties that may turn out well... RIGHT. I don't understand people still writing in this forum that still have not have made up their minds about two obvious realities:
1) Spurs have no interest in playing against their players for a number of reasons...and in fact around the league they have a very good reputation for that...they never overplay a player because they want to preserve his long time career and have been probably the first in nba to have this kind of approach in a clear way at the point to have their problems with Stern in the past. The long career of Tim, Gino and Tony is the clearest of the evidences about that. But at the same time they also respect, till a certain degree, the player's will to play and, above all, they usually trust the player about his phisical condition. They for sure used the same approach with Kiwhi...(see the Golden State play off series just for the maximum example of that, considering we were on play offs semi finals; plus the fact they gave his "group" the power to control his rehabilitation til it was obvious they were abusing this power at the expense of the team till the point it was impossible to trust them again) and Green (as Danny said, it was Danny decision to play also if the medical spurs staff told him not to because they detected the injury);
2) Spurs are, unfortunately, neither a big tv market nor a team that loves the "entertainment" or "gossip" part of the NBA game and business...and that leads to the media hates.
The amount of shit the media told us about the whole Kiwhi situation was incredible (see as the best example Chris Carter, to the point he was offensive to all of our staff and management)...and it still goes on, 'cause seems to be trendy to hire reporters that have bad feelings about our team and a tendency to limit all the Spurs accomplishments (last one was S. Jackson comparison between Timmy and AD).
The only response is the team and staff and management behavior...that's always been an example in a positive way or, better, in the "right way".
And that kind of behavior was so clear that also media "haters", at the end, have to recognize it, also if just for the reason that otherwise it would be impossible for them to have a minimum amout of credibility...

Yea but the way kawhi left is saying something about the Spurs organization which is why this forum belongs. Danny Green also said that he played with a groin tear that the Spurs staff didn't detect. Kawhi looked rusty too (shots were flat). If he was truly healthy like everyone said than why is he so slow to get into game shape? The guy is supposed to be a gym rat and people were saying he was healthy since last year it doesn't add up.

YGWHI is probably the forum's biggest Kawhi ball washer, and he said he looks done after the first TOR game. If there is something permanently wrong, then his group is doubly stupid. No one will pay him big next summer. He'll be sorting through MLE offers, at best.

The player can play for whomever he wants and still make tons of money in endorsements. He just has to be marketable and Leonard is just the opposite, a recluse with a controlling uncle that has already costed him Millions of dollars.

He's not staying in Toronto after this season even if LA burned to the ground. A couple of fake, choreographed smiles in front of a camera isn't going to change that.

Kawhi to me just looks rusty. I really hope he is washed up but we'll see. Guys really don't go hard in the preseason but we'll know in the first 10-20 games if he's washed up.
