I'm willing to give Pop and the franchise the benefit of the doubt given we have been the winningest franchise in the last 20 years. Sure you can say we lucked into it by getting Duncan if you want but there has been great players in the past that haven't had the same success as the Spurs. Nevertheless, despite everything, I think we are in good shape and I'm sure Pop and RC learned a lot of lessons during this saga and regret their role in losing a franchise talent. I'm highly optimistic about our young guys and believe we will be contending in the near future.

Maybe in the future. But currently, KD is still ahead even if Nephew win the ring for Raptors
Ahead how? KD winning for the Warriors he just did what about 5 or 6 other current players would have done on that team.

If the two scenarios are:
1) Kawhi wins the championship. The Spurs go down on the wrong end of the most lopsided trade in sporting history.
2) Durant comes back, leads the Warriors to three straight wins and is crowned a hero who retroactively is proved right about NEEDING to go to the Warriors to take the hardest road.
I might have to suddenly root for Toronto :depressed
History letting Durant off the hook might be worse than the alternative...

What's interesting about Kawhi is that he has become beloved by fans and media, despite:
- Quitting on a team and getting paid for it..sports fans and especially sports media usually hate that, especially caucasians
- Getting Harden-like treatment from the refs..I've been cheering for the Raptors, it's even more noticeable on that side:lol
I'm always confused by the process of who the fans and media like vs. who they hate:lol obviously it makes sense why he's loved here, but I guess the hatred of the Warriors and the underdog story of the Raps is driving it in America..

I don't think it'll let him off the hook. If anything the Warriors' vulnerability without him has proven that he himself could've probably taken them out if he had just run it back with the Thunder. I've always said he was good enough to take them out, he just pussied out.

This league and it's revisionist history. Now the media is pretending Scumbag is some dynasty slayer, as if the Heat were a dynasty or his souped up Bowen ass was anything close to a superstar back then. First is was the genius who received the majority of the credit for that, now suddenly it's him. Never the biggest 3.
The Warriors don't even deserve the dynasty distinction. They've yet to win a legit championship (the Raptors will join them in the ranks of asterisk champions), have only been on this run for 5 years and are more than likely a game away from capping this run at 3 in 5, aka the best the Spurs ever managed. Funny how the media was split on whether they were a dynasty following that, but didn't hesitate to anoint the Warriors prematurely.

Not even close.
I don't get this narrative that if Durant comes back and they win the championship, it'll prove they needed him all along.
The '19 Warriors aren't the same as the previous iterations. This one is banged up beyond him, fatigued, paper thin and in some cases, in decline. This team needs him to beat the Raptors (probably would have for the Bucks and even Rockets, full series).
If we reverse engineer this though, the other iterations probably wouldn't have. That's not to say they'd have automatically won the previous 2 championships or this one anyway, but they were at least capable of beating any other team during those seasons and likely would have been favored too.

I've always said he was good enough to take them out, he just pussied out.I don't know, man. The criticism has mostly been that Durant joined a team that didn't really need him and bandwagoned his way to championships. If he comes back and leads the Warriors to three straight wins, the narrative will be that Durant was responsible for three championships and the Durant-less Warriors won only because Kyrie and KLove were injured.
Let's Go WarriorsI hopped on the Warriors bandwagon right after the Spurs were eliminated by now I might have to hop off. Seeing Durant's asterisks and criticisms vanish might be worse than Nephew winning, especially because Danny Green gets some justified shine in the latter scenario.

Which means the series really boils down to who do you hate more. Durant or Leonard? I hate Durant more for joining a 73 win team and ruining the league, so I'd hate him being "vindicated" and seeing everyone forget the massive choke job he had in Game 6 of the 16 WCF. So begrudgingly, Go Raptors. Leonard fucked the Spurs over but Durant fucked the game over.

I want the Warriors to lose. Toronto is in the East so we don’t have to deal with them. Warriors being in the west is the team we want fucked. Once they lose, they have some very interesting off season choices. They lose Boogie. Iggy and Livingston are done. Do they max out Green or let him walk? Is Green even worth the Max now that he’s a shitty defender. Plus they are in cap hell. This dynasty is over once Durant loses

Durant left as an unrestricted free agent and made a decision to leave OKC to ring chase with the Warriors. He didn’t fuck his team over by hiding From them in NY and stealing a years worth of salary while forcing a trade. Not a fan of either but would rather see Leonard blow a 3-1 lead in this series.

Apsolics' alt account right here. Pathetic.
Dont even know who that is, but go off
The fact that it turns back in Durant’s favor is just ridiculous.
How much fucking help do the Warriors need? They won 73 games without him. They won a ring without him. They have a two time MVP, the 1a and 1b best shooters in the game. A defensive hound in Draymond. If they weren’t good enough to ring again without him, then tough shit. But nooooo, Durant had to ruin the entire league with one move and add his talents to an already great team. Now he’s going to get credit when he’s the mental midget that ran to them to save his career.
The Warriors were great, but were also always flaky mentally which is how they blew a 3-1 lead, and why I said the league had already caught up to them. Them adding Durant just stacked the deck so far in their favor, nobody could overcome it. Yes, they technically “needed” each other, but together they ruined the league and created an unfair advantage that has never been seen before.
They problem is, as time goes by, people forgot how absolutely ridiculous it was for Durant to join them, and it feels like they were always together which is far from the truth. Durant being on the Warriors is still as stupid today as it was when he signed 3 years ago.
I will never ever root for that team.

This is a exactly what so many on this board keep alluding to and why so many of us are pissed. We don’t have proof, but have seen the behavior of PATFO for years that matches this theory. The injury mishandling just broke the camels back.
The “culture” signings to the detriment of the team are a real thing. And Pop himself said he would prefer Kawhi to only average between 22-24 points a game. Who fucking does that to their superstar?! Tim and Manu were an anomaly. With all the winning, Pop got drunk on his ability to get them to do whatever he wanted.
He doesn’t care about winning as much anymore as many on this board can see from a mile away. It’s all about “muh culture” these days.
The guy and his ego have just become bigger than the team and nobody has the balls to tell him to straighten the fuck up or retire. He shouldn’t be fired because of his legacy. But he should be strongly urged to retire.
I root for the San Antonio Spurs, not the San Antonio Pops.

We actually matched up the warriors extremely well in 2015. I remember blowing them out in one game and winning a early season game against them with our bench. It would have been the same story in 2016 before timmy's knees died.
It's better to root for kawhi and hope he chokes next year. He didn't exactly defend the 2015 or 2016 title runs well. This run is probably the easiest he could ask for as he won't be blamed for falling short, and several raptors players are overachieving.
The Spurs suffered from Parker having to guard superior guards and the bigs being week.n currently Toronto is winning all of it's match ups. There is no pressure on kawhi. Teams will be ready for him next year and the raptors still streaky Lowery, tosb Gasol, and weak van fleek. He's been stopped before and it's mostly in his head and quad. Maybe he's a top 20 all time player or maybe he's just been in two lucky runs in between other dynastys.
The best thing for the Spurs is to pretend that kawhi left work on mutual good terms. People will assume it's like Durant and just free agency.

It still completely blows my mind that he joined that team. Your former team was up 3-1 On them in the conference finals. And due in large part to your lousy play you did not advance to the NBA finals. And you run and hook up with that team in the off-season? Who the hell does that? Not a competitor. Not somebody that has an appreciation for the history and legacy of great players that won championships. It is to this day and probably always will be the most pathetic move I’ve ever seen any player make in the history of the NBA. The media is the media. Most of the bullshit they spew means nothing in terms of how they evaluate somebody’s legacy. But all time great players past and present. They don’t respect what he did.

It is only over if Durant is absolutely garbage. If he can help alleviate some of the scoring it will motivate the Warriors. We are talking about a 36 point scorer. All he needs is maybe around 10-15 points and him being in the game with STeph and Klay is going to spread the floor.
It will also make their rotations better and give them more depth then they have right now. I am not saying they are going to win, but to it isn't close to over.

If Toronto manages to lose to a rusty, not 100% KD, it will be one of the biggest choke jobs in NBA history. Having said that, i believe they won't lose because they are stacked as fuck. It ends tonight and KD stays with the Warriors and they win it all next season.

:lmao At the hyperbole and lack of context.
Scumbag is healthier than Durant, Thompson, Iguodala, Looney and Cousins, who only comprise 5 of the Warriors top 7 players. He's also incredibly well rested after choosing to sit out a whopping 95 games over the past 2 seasons.
Also, Curry and Durant are the only clear cut All-Stars on the Warriors. Green and Thompson are fringe ones, while injuries have more than likely robbed Cousins of that designation permanently.
Meanwhile, the Raptors have two fringe All-Stars of their own, in Lowry and Siakam and a way better, healthier and fresher, remainder of the rotation.
Scumbag has obviously been the best player in the playoffs and arguably regained top 3 player status, but let's not overstate things: he's been gifted the most complete roster in the league (no liabilities on either side of the ball) and caught a massive break with the Warriors falling apart.

yeah he was obviously lucky that the majority of their star players got injured and play hobbled. Steph wasn't right in game 2 either. That doesn't change that he's destroying the biggest super team ever formed though. And if Kawhi goes to another loser franchise like the Knicks or Clippers and wins a championship there as well, he might just become one of the most beloved players in the history of basketball

One of the worst finals series in a long time, the last one was GSW vs CLE in 2015.

The Dubs needed all 11 of Durant's points or they lose this game. Load Management will likely get his undeserved ring but it will take 7 games because there's no way the Dubs lose all their home games in a Final, even without Durant.
Warriors can still win this series, tbh. They’ve been here before.
Klaynus is a fucking beast tbqh
When the Warriors have had the back up against a wall during this titles run, Klay has always saved their asses.

Nurse lost them that game. Up 6, he calls a timeout to secure the win. Leonard was going off and he stops the momentum. Warriors then go on a 9-0 run. But he doesn't call a timeout on the last possession, to win the finals?

Nah tbh. Just too limited without Durant on offense (Raps are a great defensive team tbh). Raps should close it out at home, wouldn't be surprised if they ring in Oracle.
Barring Nephew blowing out his knee in Game 6, Toronto should win the series.

Truth. This game is most likely a loss if Durant didn't play. But damn these Warriors never back down. Fatigue is the only thing stopping them.

The Warriors would've had my respect had KD not joined them. They were already a historic team without him but him joining them just ruined it imo. These guys are good, and the shooting is just insane. Props for not folding tonight tbh

You can’t even say he was trying to play matchups by not calling TO because GS had a dead ball to get their defense set and Livingston into the game for Cousins!
Maybe he wanted to keep TO in case they missed, had to foul and then needed to advance ball. But better to draw up best shot in your arsenal and not allow GS chance to match.

Yeah wake me up when DeRozan and Aldridge take us to the big stage like this.
Well, "career losers" like Cousins, Gasol, Lowry and Ibaka (again) are in the Finals so anything is possible.
And both players have made it to the conference finals, so it isn't like they are Karl Anthony-Towns and Andrew Wiggins.
But, nevermind I'll let you get back to hating on players on your "favorite" team and dick ride a bitch that quit on us (you), his teammates and coaches....
Today's (fairweather) Spur fan:
"I hate Pop, DeMar, LaMarcus, DeJounte, Patty, the ball boys, commentary team because we can't win every single year."
"I love Kawhi even though he quit on the fanbase, his teammates and the organization but I forgive him cause I'm fickle and only care about winning."
"He was a beast tonight even though he shot 9 - 24 from the field, had 5 turnovers and gave up the game winning basket. BEST PLAYER IN THE NBA!!!!!!"

Durant was actually injured unlike some other NBA players. Well Kevin can opt in to his warrior contract and rehab for a year and then go free agent.

I'd guess if it is an Achilles tear, he'd opt in, rehab on the Warriors' dime, and try for a big contract next year. But, depending on how it goes, Kevin Durant may never get the max again. Amazing how things change.

Nick Nurse with some Greg popovich level over coaching. Said he called a timeout when they were on a 10-0 run because he wanted to give his guys a break. Up 6 points with three minutes left and gave the warriors a much needed break. lol

Which is a "wear and tear" injury usually from compounding injuries, fatigue or built up stress. He could have ruptured it during the summer, while in training camp or the preseason (like DeJounte).
Instead, it happened while trying to be a leader (which has been his biggest issue) and win another title. Too bad Quitter didn't show the same heart or desire when he was "rehabbing" while his teammates fought to make the playoffs (and were swept).
