Decided to jump back on God of War and I can finally cause damage to those purple health bar fuckers on the towers in the lake. Still minimal from throwing the axe, but enough to chip health away without having to do all my damage in rage mode. They're still pretty long fights on the challenge mode, but nice to be able to finally beat them after a few tries.

One good tip for these underleveled bouts is to dodge instead of roll. Gives you much more time to sneak in a counter attack or two. The goal should be to get in a groove so you build up the frost meter on your axe. Cause once that gets up there, you start getting in frost damage and really do work.
As for the story, i felt the same way when playing through. They banked so much on recreating TLOU rather than really having a compelling plot. The whole “journey to the highest point of the realm just because mom asked” seemed really half baked. Granted at the very end, there’s a HUGE payoff that gives the story so much more meaning, but for 95% of my play through the narrative wasn’t driving the game. Imo the game is meant to be played twice because NG+ is a blast and you pick up on a lot more plot subtleties
Also whats with you jumping between games? Thought you said you always play through one full game at a time.
Been playing apex lately, pretty solid game. Takes alot of the good stuff from fortnite and gets rid of some of the shitty stuff, mainly building.

I do only the roll against the enemies who one shot. But yeah otherwise I dodge, use the shield, counters, and so on.
For the jumping between games, I sometimes play a handheld game for a few minutes a day before going to bed and when outside letting my dog go out and chase shit, and Persona 1 on Vita was what I was playing handheld. Usually doing that it takes me months to beat a handheld RPG, but I was really getting into the story and was a little bored with God of War, so I started playing Persona instead of God of War. I started Persona 2: Innocent Sin after finishing P1 yesterday, but decided I'd go back and do the harder fights I skipped in God of War and I'm starting to get back into it again. I really think Alfheim got me bored of GOW with the let's keep fighting six easy guys at once because I was really into the game until then. Will probably just not play Persona games on my Vita until I finish GOW because those can get engrossing fast.

I beat the first Devil May Cry, and I guess it was all right. I only did one of those secret missions, because the game goes out of its way to make me not want to look for them. I guess I was tainted by Bayonetta, because this game is primitive in comparison, with bad camera angles, inability to lock-on to targets (which got really annoying during certain boss fights), and meh controls.
I guess I'll play the second game--the one everybody hates--next. I'm curious to see why, though. One of the biggest complaints I hear is that the tone is too serious and Dante lost his charm and charisma. That's odd, because the wackiest part of the first game was the opening scene with Trish, and the rest of the game is spent in a castle alone fighting monsters.
Hopefully, 3, 4 and 5 will be good.

i didnt mind alfheim tbh... it was basically just the blinding effect that was frustrating, particularly in the boss fight there.
but yeah, the ascension up the mountain is pretty awesome. there are better moments ahead tbh, so stay tuned.
the enemy balance in the main quest is usually a lot more sensible than side content... you dont really run across purple guys very often. you mostly see that in the early part of the game before getting to the witch. once you reach the lake of nine, the main time you'll run into purples are if you go exploring and mess with realm tears and travellers and shit

yeah. god of war typically did boss battles well, where they're as much puzzles as just brute combat. you'll see that tenfold when you encounter valkyries. but yes the dragon fight on the mountain was awesome, and i dont care how over the top some of it was, like the dragon falling with its jaws surrounding kratos. its such a trope at this point, but it was still satisfying as fuck to watch

im bittersweet about that.
on one hand, QTE's frustrated me because i sorta wanted to watch the spectacle of what kratos was doing, but instead had to focus on QTE prompts, so i wouldn't really appreciate the big set pieces. at the same time, just sitting back and watching kratos annihilate something without any button input (even if its a silly QTE) does feel a little empty... even though i know I "earned" that finish by depleting the enemy health bar

I still get those brutal finishes at the end of a boss fight with the R3 prompts though, at least so far. Speaking of annoying QTE events, did you ever play Heavenly Sword on PS3? It was a really good God of War clone until you got to the completely unforgiving QTE in boss fights where your response time had to be like Fisher Game 5.

yeah its a point of preference as far as how much input you want in those QTE events. if pressing R3 to initiate is good enough for you, or if you feel like you want more input or "involvement."

Judging by the fragile console players opinions I've read in the comments sections online, they are going to hate on it just because Google has pointed out it has almost twice the processing power than consoles. I've seen dummies even hating on the controller like it's any fundamentally different than any of the current controllers available :lol

I'm guessing you should be fine up to 4K resolution with a steady 120+ Mbps connection.. I'm using the required 30+ Mbps on the Steam link to stream 1080p smoothly so I'm just multiplying x4 hypothetically.. As for cost, it's being billed as the Netflix for gamers, so I'm guessing about 20 bucks a month 250.00 or so a year.. that's almost like buying a new console a year

yeah, most realm tears initiate a difficult battle, but once you win, you have to interact with the tear to claim the material. there are a few realm tears scattered around that dont even have battles and you get shit for free.
also fyi (mentioned it before), people only show up with purple health bars if they outlevel you by 2 levels or more than 2 levels (dont remember which). so if you came back to these encounters later in the game, they'd no longer appear purple to you, and some of the unblockable attacks would become parry-able. thats mostly the case with the heavy draugers. the fast duel-weild guys will always have unblockables, iirc

Any of you guys have any experience with emulators? Raspberry pi retro pie to be exact?
I have one. It's great for PS1, Genesis, Arcade games, Atari 2600/5200/7800, PC-Engine/Turbografx-16, Commodore 64, Apple ][, TI99/4A, most SNES, some NES. Trash for N64 and Saturn. Can't really play Dreamcast or newer. It's not great for NES because a lot of those games are extremely sensitive to input lag. For instance, Super Mario and Mega Man games aren't great on RetroPie, at least with a 360 wireless controller which is how I played. And then Super Mario World is too difficult to play with the slight lag the RetroArch emulators add. If you want NES and SNES by far the best emulation option is an SNES Classic hacked to dual boot between the SNES Classic and NES Classic operating systems. You still probably won't beat Mike Tyson in Punch-Out (you really need to be on a CRT with original hardware to dodge his uppercuts accurately) but the Mario, Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, and Castlevania games feel very accurate. If you want N64 you're probably best off with an Nvidia Shield. For PS1, Genesis, and Arcade though the Raspberry Pi 3B and above are great. Though another option you should consider is a very small form factor PC with a Ryzen 2200G, which would smash all the other options and also give you N64, Dreamcast, PSP, Gamecube, Wii, probably Saturn, some PS2 (the PS2 emulator can be a mess though), some PS3 (PS3 emulator is still very young), and possibly some Wii U. Something like this:

Another good emulation option is a hacked Switch, especially since that gives you portable emulation. Hacked PS Vita is good too and has even better support for emulators, though I imagine Switch will catch up in the not too distant future (RetroArch only officially came to Switch around October or November last year).

Damn son. Great info. Yeah, I'm definitely leaning towards a hacked snes classic. Although I didn't want to pay scalper prices since they're sold out pretty much everywhere. Any recommendations on where to pick one up online? I don't buy online pretty much ever. :lol If Nintendo would quit being faggots I'd just pick up a switch to play some retro games on there. Pretty much a link to the past and earthbound. That way I'd get the best of both worlds. Although idk if and when that'll happen. :lol

The NES Classic is still pretty easy to find and it can be modded to dual boot with SNES Classic also. But then you'd have to buy an SNES Classic controller, which AFAIK has never been sold standalone. And you definitely want the original NES/SNES Classic controllers. RPG like A Link to the Past and Earthbound would be great on a Pi though. Only fast action games like old school platformers wouldn't work well on a Pi. If you really want the SNES Classic though you're going to have to pay scalper prices, as Nintendo stopped making their throwback consoles after Christmas. I think I was telling people on this thread they better get their SNES and NES Classics ASAP last December because Nintendo wanted to push people towards buying the Switch and the online service for retro gaming after Christmas.
Another option you might consider is a Wii. They're super easy to hack and they have Wii Ware versions of a lot of classic NES, SNES, Arcade, PC Engine, and N64 games. Plus if you get a backwards compatible Wii you also get Gamecube game support. I ended up getting one of those black Super Smash Ultimate Gamecube controllers that Nintendo launches with SSBU last December and that works great for Gamecube and Wii Virtual Console games. Though you could also pick up a Wii Classic Controller for Wii Ware Virtual Console.
I'm pretty sure both Earthbound and A Link to the Past are available for Wii. Though of course you have to pirate them since Nintendo abandoned the Wii Shop a couple of months ago. As long as you have component input on your TV you can make Wii look great. Except for the NES games where for some reason they turned the brightness way down for NES Virtual Console on the Wii.
If you're a big A Link to the Past fan I'd also recommend getting a New 3DS XL for Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. It's very much a different game but an undoubted spiritual successor to A Link to the Past. You can also hack a 3DS pretty easily and run an SNES emulator, though I find the New 3DS XL screen a little too small for SNES since the games are using a 4:3 aspect ratio instead of 16:9.

Are you okay with invasions or do you not like them either? I can understand that you want the challenge, but would you remove the multiplayer entirely? Or would you enable it only on New Game+? Either decision would turns potential players away.

They need to do a better job of explaining the dragonrot. For a second I thought i simply refusing to use resurrect saves NPCs from dragon rot, but you actually continue to get it if you continue dying.
So you need to rest at sculptor each time you die to just reset the mechanic. Kinda stupid.
Would have made more sense if its the resurrect portion isbwhat causes the dragonrot.
These reviews and youtube channels fail to mention that probably because someone else played the game for them.

Honest question, I've had the game for maybe five months and all I do is fire the game up and head straight to quick play, 3v3. Am I missing out on anything if I'm not doing that ranked stuff?
I have my days where I look like a pro and then I regress the next game to where I look like a fucking noob. :lol
Are you good at aerials? How do you improve your aerial game besides the obvious of going into training mode?
Ranked just encourages better rotations and less ridiculous aerials. Quick play is like the All-Star Game whereas ranked is the playoffs. Positioning matters and it teaches you to be a lot faster to the ball and to make smart decisions. Plus, you don't see many early leaves which is why I play it more often.
Aerials are tough. I'd say mix as much of the training as you can, if nothing else get good at double jumping and boosting to the ceiling quickly -- you really need to be instinctual with how you gain altitude to make plays on the ball. Aerials are tough though -- I have hundreds of hours in the game and it really didn't click until I was high plat.

So is Muspelheim just a bunch of arena battles? Just barely cleared the first one and am not eager to do more challenges there right now since I hate timed shit.
muspelheim and niflheim are entirely optional, and they're both basically challenge modes. you get unique crafting materials for certain gear/pommels. i think the unique pommels are both good, though niflheim's armor is better. i wouldn't bother with muspelheim armor. then again im a currency hoarder and its probably the best stuff you can get around that point of the game.
each of them also contains a valkyrie battle. on muspelheim, you have to do the normal and hard challenge at each of the 5 stations. the 6th station is where you find the valkyrie. after beating the valkyrie, you have the option of doing the "impossible trials" which are not really necessary unless you are just grinding for materials or feel like playing a challenge mode. personally i wouldn't bother. but imo you should at least get to the valkyrie before going back. iirc you cant really get to niflheim until late late game.

I'm a little past where you drop the lake's water level the second time and I have mostly just been doing exploring for chests and taking down ancients. It took me a while but I'm starting to really get into the game now to the point that I might go for the platinum. Speaking of that, Sony's E3 2016 has to be the most impressive press conference I have ever seen between God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn. Too bad Uncharted Lost Legacy seems like it didn't end up as good as it looked at that E3. But then again Horizon ended up way better than it looked in the presentation.

oh yeah, give me a challenge felt perfect. it took me multiple attempts to get past even the first encounter with draugers when you're just hunting with atreus... and i realized im not going to be able to just button mash my way out of anything. there were a couple of other areas early on where the game really pushes you... when you fall from the bridge and there's all those petrified draugers (followed by the heavy draugers that burst through the wall), the encounter shortly after where you have to deal with a revenant + i think 2 other heavy draugers at the same time. i also died quite a bit to the second troll you encounter, the one that tosses lava at you, while random enemies spawn and start throwing projectiles. the last one i remember that really gave me fits (besides valkyries) was when you're doing one of brok's quests... right before you fight the soul devourer you get ambushed by a shit ton of draugers with some guy at the top of the ledge tossing projectiles at you.
give me god of war is incredibly unforgiving, but on NG+ it still overall feels easier than challenge because your equipment/runics make those earlier encounters easier

There's plenty of dudes on youtube that beat her without taking damage on GMGoW (which is what you'd have to do at lvl 1). That's kind of my one complaint with her and the other Valkyries - it's all memorization and reflexes. There's really no preparation or strategy, just countering whichever moves they do.

Just killed the first valkyrie right after getting the chisel; that was a pretty cool fight. I kept trying to roll but could only dodge that flying attack about 50% of the time. After a few tries I got the parry to about 75% of the time and that was enough to kill it. Though I had to use a resurrection stone. Speaking of them, I completely forgot they were in the game until noticing them when going to the dwarf to get my axe upgraded right after the Magni and Modi fight. That valkyrie fight is making me think I might end up rating this game above Horizon, though to be fair I played Horizon on standard instead of hard. So maybe I shortchanged myself on the combat in Horizon (which was still pretty awesome).
So after experiencing a valkyrie fight for comparison, I definitely think Bloodborne would be up your alley spurraider21. I can definitely see a lot of Bloodborne inspiration in at least that fight. And the Magni and Modi fight is definitely reminiscent of one in Dark Souls 1.

Nice man. The first Valkyrie right by Thamur’s Corpse is the easiest one by a significant margin imo, but still takes getting used to. It’s really an introduction or primer to the valkyries.
Do another story mission or two (at least) before working on the rest. It gets really good right around where you are.

Oh yeah you basically have to parry every yellow attack as their swipes cover so much ground. Dodging can be a fools errand.
I dont remember where or when it’s acquired but there’s an enchantment that increases your parry window iirc. That helps.
You also should be using the Amulet of Kvalsir (spelling?) talisman. It’s the one you get in Alfheim that slows time after a perfect dodge. Imo it’s the best talisman before NG+, maybe with the exception of the shattered gauntlet of the ages (which is only really viable when fully upgraded, but requires very specific materials to upgrade that you won’t get to do till quite a bit later in the game)
health burst one is ok too. Later on the runic cooldown one is useful as well

I was about to ask if that dodge amulet was worth keeping instead of other rarer ones. Glad it stays pretty strong throughout the game since I like it so much I already maxed it out. :lol
Also does yellow mean blockable and red unblockable in all fights? That sounds kind of hand-holding if so.

No color indicator means you can parry or just block
Yellow means you have to parry. If you just try to block it will give that block break animation and you’ll be vulnerable. Valkyries like to do combo attacks so the first will blockbreak and second will smash you.
Red means you cant block or parry and must avoid.
It may seem like handholding but just wait till future valks

next time i buy a batch of games bloodborne will definitely be on the list. imo the best parts of god of war (gameplay wise) were the valkyrie fights, i'm definitely thirsting for more of that. sekiro looks really interesting too, but id rather play older games first before they "age" regardless if they're games that age well or not.
i'll wait on sekiro as its a new release. i still have a lot of good ones to get caught up on... bloodborne, witcher 3, nier automata, skyrim, bioshock collection, yakuza 0, arkham knight, red dead redemption 1, shadow of the colossus, probably souls stuff
im not really itching too add anything to the list. on my current backlog from games i have (or available to me from friends willing to lend disks)... horizon, metal gear solid 5, uncharted 3 and 4, arkham city, devil may cry 4, dmc devil may cry, fallout 4, infamous second son, basically every assassins creed game since AC 2 (last one i played to completion), amnesia collection

Yeah they build directly on each other so 0 is the best place to start. It's a prequel to Yakuza 1. Then Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of 1 and Yakuza Kiwami 2 a remake of 2 (both 1 & 2 were originally PS2 games). Yakuza 3-5 are only on PS3 in the US and 3 is pretty pricy since it never got a US digital release and very limited physical release. Though 3-5 have PS4 remasters officially announced for the West and the 3-4 remasters are already out in Japan. Then 6 is on PS4. Also 3 will probably be much better on the PS4 remaster since they got rid of a lot of the weird Japanese shit like the hostess clubs for the American PS3 release since they didn't think the west would understand it. But that's supposed to be in the American version of the PS4 remaster.

They're basically Uncharted, so highly worth playing. At least Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of the Tomb Raider are. I haven't played Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
You might consider buying Tomb Raider 2013 off PSN before April 2nd, as it's $5.99 until then. That's the second lowest price it has even been. It was $4.49 one time two years ago, but otherwise you're probably not beating that price for a long time.
https://psprices.com/region-us/game/10574/tomb-raider-definitive-edition
Rise of the Tomb Raider is at its alltime low of $11.99 in the same sale on PSN, but I think that still has plenty of room to fall.
Don't hold your breath on Square Enix releasing a trilogy of those games. The franchise is likely dead after how poorly Shadow of the Tomb Raider seemed to sell, so Square Enix likely wouldn't have much motivation to put such a bundle out since they won't have a new one to hype.

God of War must really push the PS4 harder than any other game, because it's the only one I have played that makes my PS4 Slim get loud. Not XBox 360 or PS2 Fat loud by any means, but audible when it's usually pretty silent unless reading from the Blu Ray drive on an install. Horizon and Uncharted 4 are the two other PS4 games I'd put in a similar class graphically to God of War and I never heard the system playing either of those.

TR2013 and ROTR are extremely impressive graphically. Funny you'd say that about Hellblade, since it's done by Ninja Theory who made a game on PS3 called Heavenly Sword that was just a God of War 1 & 2 clone with cutting edge graphics. I think it was the first PS3 game that got people coming in their shorts at the power of the system.

yeah... getting a ps4 is one of the best decisions i've made from an entertainment perspective. it might not end up with a library like the ps2, but when it comes to regularly churning out legit 9/10+ games, ps4 is unrivaled. save fallout 76 (and thats not really a ps4 issue), has anything really disappointed?
xbox might perform better for multiplat but sony has so many good exclusives that its not even a factor worth considering. see almost no point in getting an xbox one. i'd sooner get a switch than an xbox because nintendo exclusives are always a blast.

The Last Guardian is the most disappointing exclusive on PS4 since it's by the devs who did Shadow of the Colossus and everyone was expecting another masterpiece out of them. But for the most part the exclusives have been outstanding since Bloodborne released in 2015.

Switch is probably worth buying just for Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW. It has a respectable library when you count the Wii U ports like Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. Yoshi's Crafted World is pretty cool if you want a really casual platformer. Though the other big exclusives are Octopath Traveler and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which you might be that into if you don't like JRPG.
Astral Chain is the game coming this year on Switch that I'm really interested in since it's developed by Platinum (who is responsible for the combat in NieR Automata).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brmmV3g4qqo
Since I'm not expecting The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, or Death Stranding this year, Astral Chain is prob second only to Dying Light 2 on my list of most anticipated upcoming releases for 2019. Then my third would probably be the remaster of Link's Awakening coming out on Switch near the end of the year. Mario Maker 2 should be a big hit too, but I doubt it'll be any good on a hacked Switch that can't go online to download levels. :lol

A couple of days in and Yakuza 0 is feeling massively overrated. The minigames are mostly boring other than the Sega games you can play when you walk into an arcade and the cool shit I saw in the reviews like picking up bikes and beating the shit out of people with them can only be done in this fighting stance called "beast" where the control is super slow and unresponsive. The control feels pretty bad in this game too. Some times you can't use the right thumbstick to spin around your view fully and it feels kind of random when it will work vs when it won't. The camera can be terrible. There is this one guy who tries to rob you on the street and fighting him is reasonable when you have a good camera angle but if you run past him or he runs past you getting the camera back on him so you can see what you're doing can take forever. The control at times feels almost like a late PS1 or early PS2 game, which is completely at odds with the modern graphics and sound. The story is really cool so far but the control seems to badly hold this game back.
I think my problems with the controls came mostly from how they behaved when you were near a wall or a door or something. The minigames got pretty good and the fighting became a lot of fun later on. I think I rated the game around 8.5/10 after finishing.

thats not kara. kara is the one in the witch's cave that spawns draugers. the niflheim one isn't that hard herself, but yeah the circumstances of that realm are what make that one challenging.
also she's always in the same spot, so it's not really a "maze." though you do have to fight through at least 2 groups of enemies before reaching her.

Yeah the controls are pretty bad. The fighting so far feels a bit like Shenmue... which was a 1999 title. And the graphics look like they're at least a generation outdated. And the cutscenes (which is 99% of the game so far) are annoying as hell. It's constantly skipping between in-game graphics, cut-scene graphics, those over stylized still-frame cutscenes, and long stretches of dialogue without any voice acting. I swear, Japanese games are the only ones that do this type of shit. Western games have figured out how to integrate gameplay and storytelling a lot better.

I don't mind shit not being fully voice acted. Yakuza games are done on a really tight budget. Another of my favorite games NieR Automata (which was also made on a thin budget) does the same. The reason Yakuza 0 is pretty lackluster graphically is because it's a PS3 game that a quick port to PS4. Same for Yakuza Kiwami. You can't expect Japanese games to have the kind of graphics you see in Western games with enormous budgets like RDR2, God of War, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider though. Even one of the most enormous hits made for a Japanese audience in Dragon Quest XI only sold 3 million in Japan.

I gotta play the Genesis Shadowrun some time. The SNES Shadowrun is probably my favorite hidden gem of all time and I know the Genesis one is supposed to be even more highly regarded (while being completely different games). I'll probably put it on my Switch. Sadly I doubt it'll be there on the Genesis Mini since they never put it on the Sega Genesis Classics Collection. I'm sure the Genesis Mini will be easy enough to hack and add the game though.

Kara is indeed the easiest Valkyrie.
Next to hardest for me was the one in Niflhein where not only is your health decreasing but you need to find her in the maze while also fighting your way through wave of enemies.
One tried that bitch.
The hardest was for me def the one that would spawn minnows. Fucking bitch.

as far as future purchases...
yakuza 0 is definitely on my list of games to purchase, and based on how i like it, i'll look into kiwami and kiwami 2 after that
but more short term, i just started uncharted 2. plan on playing arkham city after that then probably jumping into horizon. i might play one additional short game like amnesia: the dark descent in between
The gunplay is pretty basic in the TR series.. The main selling point is the level design and sight seeing during your pretty linear quest.. As far as visuals the latest is far and away the best setting

Has anyone played DMC5? The extreme microtransactions in the game has seem to have killed this game. There is not as much walkthrough playthroughs of the game on youtube.
Between the microtransactions and the lack of inovation, I think people were completely turned off by it.
What? it's a pretty good game, not really sure what microtransactions youre referring to unless you mean purchasing equipment/orbs/etc which has always been in DMC? 92% positive reviews on Steam and a 90 score on metacritic so im going to have to disagree with your assertion

TBH, these new Tomb Raider games are fun, and the historical archaeological stuff is what I like about it.. But to me, graphics aside, Tomb Raider Underworld blows these games out of the water because level design was so fucking good.. Not sure if you played that one, but they made the levels multi-tiered where you would travel down deeper and deeper into the ground to discover civilizations remnants that were built over as the years passed.. Kinda the way how modern day Instanbul is like the 3rd city that has been built over the last.. Highly recommend that one

Not too sure about your thoughts on multiplayer shooters, but they got Rising Storm 2: Vietnam for 8 bucks right now on Steam.. It's fucking fun as hell, and the community is great. They're adding new maps to it even though its years old.

Insurgency Sandstorm is fucking awesome and very similar to Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, yet very different..
It's similar in these sense that both are focused on realism first.. one bullet kills, no HUD, no +100 XP popups confirming your kills, etc.. But whereas Insurgency is faster paced, small-medium scale battles with 32 players, you have Vietnam at 64 players, huge maps, vehicles, and game play that makes it challenging even GETTING to the objective as it's nearly impossible to peek your head up to scan the battlefield without getting picked off from 300 meters.. It forces you to always use cover and rely on your commander and recon roles to call in napalm strikes and mortar barrages to allow your team to push forward.. I'm not a combat veteran, but this is the closest a game has made me feel to being a part of a large scale war.

I'm not that familiar with it either. Any Shinobi game is good. Shadow Dancer too. Golden Axe is a must play. Both Earthworm Jim games are great. Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion is surprisingly awesome. Gunstar Heroes is one of the best shooters ever made. Of course all the Sonic and Streets of Rage games. I don't know the RPG on the system at all though. Chris and midnightpulp know way more about the Genesis library than I do.

Damn I have a Pi 3B but I'm not using it right now and don't have a free microSD to test it. The lag felt like too much on any kind of fast action game like fighting games or NES platformers when using a wireless XBox 360 controller, but maybe it's better with one of those iBuffalo wired SNES style controllers? Phantasy Star 4 is in a lot of top 3 lists for people, but sadly, I've never played the game.
Dude Out of This World (or Another World depending on what platform you are playing on) was fucking badass. Could play it today and still have the same enjoyment.

Never played Flashback.
I just loved the whole setup on OoTW of escaping the facility with the alien prisoner while unable to communicate with each other. Would've made a cool movie.
Thanks man. I'll have to look into these. :tu
You are a brave soul for trying to play these.
Having gotten used to insanely and amazing graphics, I dont think I could ever go back to these shitty bits type games. Not to mention the controls.

Man PC gamers are so pissed off with sekiro "difficulty" :lol
The review scores are amazing but user scores are getting bombed.
Hard for the sake of being hard.
I'm half way through and I'm not even a souls expert and i think its super hard but its fair and challenging.
tbh, I was having fun with it until I've got to lady butterfly... I just can't even beat the 1st half of that fight. Not sure if I'm woefully not leveled up enough or what, but I get bitchslapped in like 30 secs flat.
What? You played it for 15 hours in a day? :lol
Your PS4 controller can hold that much charge in one session? Mine is so old and used up it can barely get through 2 hours. I play mainly plugged in. Not a fan of shelling out 60 bucks for a measly controller.

Nothing to be ashamed about though. I sank 10+ hours on on GOW on multiple occasions.
If you plan on getting platinum for this, it's almost a requirement.

Surprisingly lady butterfly was the easiest boss for me. I struggled with the jizou the drunkard more.
With lady butterlfy you need to be ultra aggressive. Attack and attack and attack. Whenever shes in the air use the shurikens it hits 90% of the time and should give you enough time to get some decent damage.
EDIT: I think I got her HP to 40s in for both deathblows.
I'm learning slowly here that posture is the real health bar. Not the health bar itselfm

At this point I used up all my shurikens, so I would need to go back to the other levels and fill up the soul essence BS again... maybe I'll try to keep going on the other non-praying path and see if I can level up some more

Mine can do 6-7 hours or so I think.

My original controller stopped holding any charge, it wouldn't turn on without being plugged in. I bought a new one while they were on sale, but it sucks that there aren't any third party controllers for the PS4.

I'd probably just buy a new battery. Thankfully DualShock 4 controllers only use Phillips head screws so are easy to take apart.

A new battery pack is $10 on Amazon. Just be careful when ordering since they changed the battery connector between the old (pre-Pro/Slim) and new controllers.
Also new controllers are $47 on Amazon.

Theres a few easy to level up places. The route to Jizo the drunkard. Can get you 5 skill points in under 1 hrs

Lol. It took me 2 days to finish the uncharted trilogy back in college :lol
Nowadys I cant finish a single game in less than 3 weeks. The second tomb raider took a month.

I don’t see how uncharted 2 is significantly better than the original. I will say the graphics look nicer, and they added a rudimentary stealth mechanic, which is almost never as useful as it sounds because eventually the game demands you get spotted to trigger a set piece anyway.
But the gun play, climbing, story, puzzle solving feels identical to the first one. I’d always heard people raving about #2 and claiming 1 is the worst and borderline skippable. I don’t really see that great a disparity. I think they were both pretty good games. I still think i prefer infamous as a series.
its also probably unfair playing UC2 directly after god of war, to be fair

Really? I found the control awful in UC1. It felt freaking ancient. While UC2 the control felt modern.

Roger that.
I recently replayed the "remastered" trilogy and could barely finish the first game. Didn't even played the second or third. I also found it sluggish and slow.
One thing I will say about the first one is that it's by far the hardest of the series which made it more fun and challenging.
I remember getting stuck on mission 4 on Crushing diffuculty for like a week trying to get pass the spawning wave of enemies with almost no cover. Eventually I forgot about it and gave up on it completely. UC1 is the only game I have aimed for plat and gave up on literally with one trophy left.

Kara is indeed the easiest Valkyrie.
Next to hardest for me was the one in Niflhein where not only is your health decreasing but you need to find her in the maze while also fighting your way through wave of enemies.
Gotta say the Niflheim valkyrie was by far the easiest of the three I have fought so far. Use my two runic attacks at the beginning of the fight, block the ice and then roll out of the way of the final ice attack, roll from the red charging attack, parry the yellow charging attack, and then rage mode whenever my health is low.
EDIT: Actually shit I should switch to blades of chaos and do my other two runic attacks so I can do four at the start of any valkyrie fight.

Yeah I think it's all about which armor you're wearing. I didn't make much use of runic which only worked to my disavantage. It wasn't until after I beat the game that I started youtubing walkthroughs and saw people cutting valkyies down like fucking knife through butter because they were stacked with good armor and magic.
Do you find Rage usefull? They nerfed the shit out of that in this game.

The rage is extremely useful. Not just for dealing out huge damage but also for gaining health back. You didn't find rage nor runic attacks useful in the valkyrie battles?

I always opened with blades. Hyperion grapple (heavy runic) does great damage on single targets including valks (doesn’t work on the massive enemies though). I would do both blade runics and summon wolves to leave the valk stunned then use both axe runics.
For axe runics the best ones were leviathans wake (the hyper strong axe toss) and glaivestorm. Glaivestorm is the best attack in the game imo. Great against swarms, great against single targets. Those are both great in all situations. Also for light runic you can use the ice beam one (can’t remember what it’s called) and just annihilate ancients with it. Once their chest is exposed, use a ream shift talisman and just aim the beam into their chest it's basically a one shot
For blades i would use nimean crush for most of the game and use blast of haphaestas against valks. For my heavy i would use Hyperion grapple and in situations with more crowds or massive enemies you couldn’t grapple, would use Hyperion slam

Nah man I was talking about the remastered version of Uncharted 1. Controls still felt awful in it.

Not particularly for rage. I didn't think it dealt a lot of damage either.
The health you gain back is minimal in my opinion. And I did find runic magic useful for sure. It's actually essential for intense battles such as with the Valkyries and the black hole enemies which are level 6's and up.
My go TOs were Hell's touch which allowed you a few seconds to string together a massive combo along with the talisman to slow down time. Works great with the full set of Ivaldi's armor.
I put everything on strength and defense. I guess I didn't find rage all that useful because the Ivaldi armor when fully upgraded gives you health anyways.

Yeah i thought rage was useless. Only time I found it useful is in one of the musphelheim challenges
