Damn, The Last of Us Part II got delayed until the end of May.

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2019/10/24/the-last-of-us-part-ii-comes-to-ps4-in-may/
Shit. But really, how many AAA games are out on their originally announced release date? It just sucks that they are delaying just a few weeks after the date announcement.

Just when you thought game delays were a thing of the past.

Well at least we haven't had a major delayed of a game in a while anyways. Expected this and honestly, I can see them pushing it even more to make it a PS5 launch title.

At least P5S is scheduled for February in Japan. I'll prob just play that one in Japanese instead of waiting for western localization since it's an action game and thus probably a lot lighter on reading than the regular Persona games.

God I half want to buy P5R next week but I can't read Japanese quickly enough to make a game with that much text fun to play.

How are you asking 13 bucks a month or 100 bucks a year just to play alone? They're desperately trying to make all the money they lost on this turd. Hope they never recover from this.

I dont want to discourage you from buying and trying it for at least the story.

But at the same time, the controls are just so fucking clunky. I started replaying it the other day to get ready for part 3 and had to stop because I kept clipping edges and getting stuck on places when I was just walking or running. Opening doors feels awkward as shit. It's like you're trying to drive a truck through a narrow road.

Target audience for FPS is fairly broad but it’s usually high school and college aged kids who can’t afford to spend a lot of money on games but have a ton of free time. You buy one COD game and that’s not hundreds and hundreds of hours of entertainment. COD was easily my main form of entertainment during the PS3 life cycle

The hard on is well deserved. The man has spent like 30 years making video games and he has still to dissapoint.

i typically enjoyed the treyarch games more than the infinity ward ones tbh... world at war, black ops, and black ops 2 were fucking outstanding. modern warfare put the franchise on the map but was dominated by like 2-3 weapons and ridiculous grenades. modern warfare 2 was fun but was also a shitshow with a lot of ridiculous overpowered shit like grenade launchers. mw3 was solid though.

MW2 is still regarded in the community as the benchmark

BO1 up until last year still had a very high resell value at Gamestop

Those are the two best. I dominated in MW3 but it had really odd hit detection. Was sloppy for some reason. My friends didn't play that game for long. The series kinda lost me at Jetpacks. I wasn't playing as often and that was a major game changer like adding the 3 point shot; so I was getting dominated playing an old fashioned style. But I returned to play for example WW2 (2017). A year later most of the problems were ironed out and it was a solid game......but in classic COD style it was time for a new title. I hate that.

Someone mentioned Ghost. I thought it was an okay game but released while consoles were transitioning to newer generations. So that split the community. Also Ghost had very large maps and this turned off a-lot of the community that prefers classic COD arcade style. The irony is from what I have read this current COD is similiar to Ghost in terms of the map size.

I want to check it out but don't have the time to play this consistently. Thinking of buying a used copy at Gamestop, buying an online subscription with my console for 1 month and playing this game for 1 (or 2) week. Whenever I play a video game I wonder why I don't do it more often but overtime I realize how useless the time spent is. Then again is it anymore wasteful than posting on here? Or watching a sporting event on TV?

spurraider21

MW2 is still regarded in the community as the benchmark
mw2 was loads of fun, admittedly. it was the first game that let you choose your own killstreaks, and that was a huge deal. but that game had some ridiculous OP weapons. the dual wield shotguns were nuts until they got nerfed (model 1887). grenade launchers were disgusting in that game because of the danger close perk and one man army which let you constantly reload them at no cost. the assault rifles were all hyper accurate with next to no recoil. and omg the commando perk that let you lunge a good 25 feet to stab someone :lol... fun game, but a lot of broken mechanics. it was madness

BO1 up until last year still had a very high resell value at Gamestop
such a good game. so clean. weapons felt pretty balanced for the most part. perks were improved (no more stopping power/juggernaut). return of attack dogs. the blackbird killstreak was great. and easily the best zombie maps ever.

Those are the two best. I dominated in MW3 but it had really odd hit detection. Was sloppy for some reason. My friends didn't play that game for long.
hmm, i dont remember the hit detection in that one. i loved the different killstreak packages though. and i loved that both black ops 2 and mw3 changed killstreaks to pointstreaks. i always played domination as my go-to game mode and those games finally rewarded you for securing flags, defending, and getting assists. i thought both of those were great games.

The series kinda lost me at Jetpacks. I wasn't playing as often and that was a major game changer like adding the 3 point shot; so I was getting dominated playing an old fashioned style. But I returned to play for example WW2 (2017).

i never played any of those. i think the jetpack one was advanced warfare? i dno. i stopped playing them after college

Also Ghost had very large maps and this turned off a-lot of the community that prefers classic COD arcade style. yeah, i brought it up as the last one i have played, and yes it came about during that transition time. i was still on the ps3 and that game was utter garbage. and man i just remembered the large maps. such a drag. i mean all the previous games had their "big maps" like wasteland, derailed, etc. but ghosts was ridculous. and just felt like a complete downgrade to BO2 and MW3

I want to check it out but don't have the time to play this consistently. im the same way. COD is not a game that you can casually play for an hour or 2 here and there. it requires a good amount of commitment to "git good" unless you just want to get curbstomped. i used to be quite good at the games, but id get wrecked if i jumped in right now

Fuck, RDR2 looks like a piss-poor PC port. This guy is getting in the ~50 fps range at 900p medium with a GTX 1060 in the beginning of the game, which isn't very graphically intensive. Considering a GTX 1060 is more powerful than a GTX 980, that's fucking hideous to not get a locked 60 fps on 900p high considering PoorStation 4 can run it mostly 30 fps at 900p high.

Nioh is pretty good if you like Souls games or say the Ninja Gaiden series. The second or third boss in the game (Hino-Enma) is really fucking hard at the low level you'll be at, though the difficulty drops after. It's not a $60 worthy game but $30 or less and it's pretty good. So obviously with it being included in your PS Plus it's a worthy play if you like those kind of games.

Just tagging spurraider21 since he's a Bloodborne and God of War fan too. Nioh isn't anywhere near as good as those two but still has pretty fun combat.

Target released their Black Friday ad and looks like PoorStation 4 Slim is going to be $199 for it, with TLOU/GodofWar/Horizon included. Kind of surprised they didn't go for $149 this year, as I don't see it selling nearly as well as the $199 PS4 Slim + Spiderman bundle last year with PS5 only a year out.

I played the very first souls game, but unfamiliar with Ninja Gaiden except for the original. I own Bloodbourne, but still haven't touched it. Trailers looks pretty good and I'm seeing 5/5 and 10/10 reviews so it looks worth a try.

i never played ninja gaiden, and bloodborne was my first Soulsborne game... and wow was it amazing. its very frustrating early on due to the learning curve, and the first major checkpoint was pretty difficult to reach, but once you get past that, its one of the better games i've played in recent memory

What have you played so far? If I had to pick a top 10 (with the caveat that I haven't played Sekiro or Spiderman and got very bored by RDR2) I think I'd list my top PS4 games in the order:

1. Bloodborne
2. NieR Automata
3. Persona 5
4. Dying Light
5. God of War
6. Horizon Zero Dawn
7. The Witcher 3
8. Yakuza 0
9. The Last of Us Remastered
10. Resident Evil 2 Remake

I think I'd call them all pretty much must plays.

I think Nioh was very overrated in the reviews. IGN gave it like a 9.6/10, which I don't think it deserved. I think it's more something that should have gotten around 8.5/10 by typical reviewer standards. So still really cool and worth playing, but not top tier like Bloodborne is.

Fuck, RDR2 looks like a piss-poor PC port. This guy is getting in the ~50 fps range at 900p medium with a GTX 1060 in the beginning of the game, which isn't very graphically intensive. Considering a GTX 1060 is more powerful than a GTX 980, that's fucking hideous to not get a locked 60 fps on 900p high considering PoorStation 4 can run it mostly 30 fps at 900p high.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kki4sm0VQFs

That processor is suspect, and he probably has some worthless settings on ultra.. I need to try it myself, but I bet I can get it running at 60 FPS at least with a very minimal graphics hit. Will post my results when I get it.

Here is a benchmark from a better source.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD3xd1qGcfo

At around the 9:00 mark they show 1080p high at the low 40s with drops into the 20s for GTX 970 and and mid 50s for RX 580 8GB with drops into the low 30s, and GTX 1060 should be somewhere in between those two. Even 1660 Ti has drops into the 40s in their benchmark, which sucks since 1660 Super is probably what I'm looking to buy around Black Friday (it's a 1660 with 14Gbps GDDR6, which puts it almost at the level of 1660 Ti for $50 less (1660 has GDDR5, 1660 Ti has 12Gbps GDDR6).

I can't stomach the thought of dropping $350 to $400 on a gpu right now since they'll probably be shit in two years considering how much Nvidia held back in Turing, so 1660 Super is as high as I want to go. Really wish my 970 would have survived until Ampere since that's probably going to be the really good generation.

yeah thats true, spiderman was basically brand new... speaking of which, complete edition for spiderman is going for $15. thats seems great. iirc just getting all the DLC was costing around 15. i wonder if the ps store will just sell the dlc package for dirt cheap standalone. i already have the disc but never bought the dlc

Then buy the good Switch for $300 and get Mario Kart 8 for $30 from Target. This BF one is just Nintendo trying to clear out old inventory. If it was $200 then I'd say maybe get the BF bundle, but getting a system with half the battery life and a higher power cpu (and thus more prone to failure) to save $30 doesn't make sense.

mw2 was loads of fun, admittedly. it was the first game that let you choose your own killstreaks, and that was a huge deal. but that game had some ridiculous OP weapons. the dual wield shotguns were nuts until they got nerfed (model 1887). grenade launchers were disgusting in that game because of the danger close perk and one man army which let you constantly reload them at no cost. the assault rifles were all hyper accurate with next to no recoil. and omg the commando perk that let you lunge a good 25 feet to stab someone :lol... fun game, but a lot of broken mechanics. it was madness
MW2 is especially nostaligc for me because although it isn't my finest work it was my first COD. Years later I played MW1 for the first time and it was too stripped down for my tastes.

Yes there were major faults in the game but I had no expectations or worries about my KDR. I remember a couple months into the game I tried Sniping for the first time and that was an entire new appreciation for the game. But yes the knifing was very broken and the game turned into a Tubing fest a couple years after.
What I do believe still holds true for MW2 is the maps and gun options were great. Even in BO1 the Famas was overused by the community.

such a good game. so clean. weapons felt pretty balanced for the most part. perks were improved (no more stopping power/juggernaut). return of attack dogs. the blackbird killstreak was great. and easily the best zombie maps ever.
BO1 took me a couple weeks because it was argubly the most non-Cartoonish version of the game. The guns were not as powerful and I remember it was more difficult to kill and/or easier to reheal. This is the game where I really started using a SMG and exclusively Shotgun in some maps. On the flip side I rarely Sniped in BO1. The Berlin Map was so cool to me. I ran alot in this game.

hmm, i dont remember the hit detection in that one. i loved the different killstreak packages though. and i loved that both black ops 2 and mw3 changed killstreaks to pointstreaks. i always played domination as my go-to game mode and those games finally rewarded you for securing flags, defending, and getting assists. i thought both of those were great games.
i never played any of those. i think the jetpack one was advanced warfare? i dno. i stopped playing them after college
Yes the point system. In TDM I used Hardline Pro which converted 2 assists to a kill and I would spam UAV & Counter [no third streak]. People loved playing on my squad. Very high win percentage in this title. But the game was clumsy. Once BO2 came out, it especially highlighted the faults of MW3. I was a big fan of the Survival Mode on MW3 though.

I don't like how cartoonish the Black Ops became and for that reason I believe I prefer the Infinity Ward games

yeah, famas in BO1 was used a lot. i preferred the aug as far as ARs went, and i loved the olympia. but yes, sniping in that game was terrible mw2 probably had the most fun/broken sniping, introduced the thermal scope, etc.

I think it's going to be way worse than just the graphics making that game look shit. It's already been listed as cut to $35 for BF in Target's ad.

They said the game is using unreal engine 4 but I’m confused how they’re using it. It looks nothing like what that engine is capable of.

Not too thrilled about the game mechanics but will buy for the story. Very engrossing story.

I still gotta play Shenmue I just because it's the game that seemed to have grown into 龍が如く [eg Yakuza]. Speaking of Yakuza, just got the Yakuza Remastered Collection and wow, Yakuza 3 is way better on the PS4 remaster than the PS3 original. The control is greatly improved and it makes it feel like a modern Yakuza game.

I put a 1TB and it's not enough. Had to uninstall RDR2 and all the Uncharted games. Wondering if a 2TB will be enough though with The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima promising to be large games, and I still want to get Persona 5 Royal, Persona 5 Scramble, Yakuza 7, Nioh 2, and Kingdom Hearts 3 too.

Honestly they could use the same graphics and mechanics as the originals and I'd still play. Hopefully there's an option for the Japanese dub though, because American voice acting sucked dick. Playing Shenmue 2 in Japanese was such a huge improvement.

You can Youtube Shenmue the Movie (which was made for the Xbox version of S2, since Xbox never received the first game). It's basically a very condensed version of the first game, 1.5 hours. Then you could easily find a recap of S2.

I don't buy that at all. It was crowd funded and made almost exclusively for fans of the originals who were disappointed in the lack of ending. It looks so outdated that I can't imagine anybody else giving it a second glance. This wasn't a money making venture.

It very well could be a disaster though.

I very much agree with all of this. No way was this a money grab.

The demand for it was why it happened. With a big help from Sony.

Yu Suzuki did say he would hope non Shenmue fans would get interested and hopefully buy it but having seen actual gameplay of it from people who have the game now, I just dont know.

The game just doesn't have the old feel to me. The transition cuts are weird to me. For example, From the time a cutscene plays to the time you take control of Ryo it feels like the game loads twice and suddenly puts you in control. No smooth transition whatsoever.

From the 1 hour long gameplay I saw last night, I have serious doubts Shenmue 4 or that the story itself will complete now. Fuck

yeah I think so. I saw a review. You can change dub and sub so you can have both.

8.6 so far on ps4 user metacritic.

ofcourse PC fans are pissed cause of the epic store controversy. Its at 6 something in PC iirc.

EDIT 7.6....in PC

in comparison Read Dead 2 is at 81 User rating.

an 86 user rating should net a 90ish rating.

But reviewers under the age of 25 will give this game a very harsh..no context grading.

I suspect it would be around 80-85 reviewer and 85-90 user for PS4

I haven't seen anything yet but if that's the case I may not bother playing. The story was good but I enjoyed the most was the virtua fighter mechanics vs multiple opponents. I never understand why there aren't more games that try that, souls and Witcher games have good combat but it would be nice to have something deeper, I guess the closest is sleeping dogs. SM games were more precise, an almost exact copy of VF 2 or 3. I actually bought an Xbox just to play sm2 and oddworld games , they're also making a crowdfunded comeback (I think)

The Yakuza games I just can't get into, too many long ass cutscenes, even though I like Japanese humor and women :lol hope this one doesn't just lean entirely on the story and cutscenes and has an actual game world but considering the money it takes to make that with good art and current gen models I just don't see it happening outside of a studio/publisher combo that can rein it all in..

wow thats an incredibly disappointing list for black friday. the only thing from the PS Store i might buy is the spiderman DLC package for $12.50... the GOTY edition for $20 is obviously a better deal, but i already have the base disc so unfortunately that's not helping. god of war is a great deal, but who the fuck has a ps4 but not god of war at this point? plus best buy is also selling that for the same price. a lot of these other deals are identical to what is being offered from retailers, and if the price point is equal, i'd probably prefer a disc anyway.

its pretty laughable that they're selling TLOU remastered for $10 when a year ago they were selling it on the store for $6. biggest bummer for me is that nobody has any special deals for any of the dark souls games or the trilogy package. the ps store also doesnt even have a black friday deal for sekiro. right now on the double discount sale its there for $39 but the major outlets are selling it for $25 on black friday

Doubtful, but I'm too early into it to really rank it. Of the games I have completed I'd rank them 0 > 2 Kiwami > 1 Kiwami. It also looks like a somewhat early PS3 game with a render upscale and better textures and framerate, so nowhere near as good graphically as 0 or especially Kiwami 2.

i never thought days gone was going to be some revolutionary game which is what the hype seemed to be. it just looked like a good typical open world game, which i enjoy.

They have been all week other than Sekiro and some other door busters. I'm kind of in the same boat as you though in that the one game I want (Judgement) is something I won't play for many months, so I might as well just buy it when I see it for $20 or less. :lol

Mainly because I don't expect to play Judgement until after finishing Yakuza 6, and Yakuza 5 doesn't even come out until February on PS4 (currently playing Yakuza 3 on PS4).

I expect Judgement to be on sale at least for Golden Week next year and no way I'd play it before then.

i never thought days gone was going to be some revolutionary game which is what the hype seemed to be. it just looked like a good typical open world game, which i enjoy.

tryin to figure out if buying the gold edition of AC Odyssey is more worthwhile as it comes with the DLC. do you feel that stuff is worthwhile or is base game more than enough? the base game will be on sale for $15 but i can get the gold on the PS store for 25

edit: hm, the reviews for the DLC are pretty good, and the gold edition also comes with a remaster of AC III... think im just gonna get that

Recently "finished" odyssey- the three main story lines at least, must have left more than half of the side missions undone. It's massive but a lot of it is generic fetch quest type stuff.

The game is fun though I recommend setting it to hard otherwise too easy.. imo it is a cross between Witcher 3 and Mordor games, with a nice historical backdrop ... But really at this point ac games don't have anything to do with Templars and a modern day struggle, it's just ancient murder simulation and the story is mostly irrelevant. Which imo is too bad, they had a good setup. 3 was the last good one in that sense and 4 they threw that story structure out the window and just made it another open world murder fest.

3 suffered from too much sprawl and grind but the later ones ar far worse in that regard imo..

The rage potential is still there.. I don't get angry anymore as I couldn't care less about being "good" these days, but the little faggoty shit players do to earn killstreaks will still ruin the experience if you don't have any teamwork to find campers and keep their spots clear

Just finished Shenmue 3.

I am ok with what I got out of this considering the low budget and the fact it was a kickstarter game. I mean, how many successful games have we gotten from crowdsourcing?

Anyways, the gameplay is almost a replica from the first two with a few tweaks here and there. Dont like a few mechanics like you have to eat to maintain your health. Walking spends health. lol

I also thought the story itself didn't progressed a whole lot. We didn't get much out of the story as we should. It's been almost 20 years and we didn't get a substantial advancement in that department. I'd say Shenmue 3 gave us about 5 or so % worth of new story material which is laughable.

Yu Suzuki is banking on Shenmue 4 and I cant do another 20 years of waiting again. Just not worth it even for Shenmue.

The complete edition of Dying Light is $20 MSRP now. It's such violent fun once you're a couple of hours in and can start using swords and sickles to slice zombies up. Very slow at first though when you can only use crap weapons like table legs and pipes. And no interest in Cyberpunk after how great Witcher 3 was?

I'll admit to playing it through. Like I said above, I would still rank it 5/10, which is shit. However, there's something about it once you played it long enough that makes you go back.

I suppose once you lowered your expectations to the fact that this isn't a combat game, and combat isn't fun at all, nor the main reward system, it's easier to digest.

I would still probably not recommend it for the vast majority of people. Not even as a rental. I did get mine as a free copy.

yeah... even several months after playing through god of war (so recency bias has faded some), i think its the best game i've ever played. certainly king of this gen. lol xbox. i've already played through that game 3 times, and every now and again feel the itch to go back to it :lol

i haven't played sekiro and nier yet, though i'm pretty sure i'll enjoy them. it will probably be a while before i get to those. i already had a pretty sizeable backlog even before buying all these games, and tbh i want to "earn" by way to sekiro by playing dark souls 1/2/3 first.

i otherwise agree that bloodborne is near the top. that game was a masterpiece as well, and i can see myself making another couple of play-throughs. i just wish the narrative was a bit stronger, rather than making me look shit up to understand the lore :lol

cant really say the same about horizon. dont get me wrong, that game was also great in its own way and is one of the best i've played in that open world side quest mania genre, with a solid story. but i cant imagine getting the urge to make another play-through anytime soon. if i ever do, it would probably just be an NG+ run on ultra hard. i imagine i'll have the same general feeling about Days Gone. will be a fun play through, but not something i'd pick up and play again for a long time. tbh only rockstar games have had that appeal for me... i played GTAV/San Andreas/Vice City at least 3 times apiece.

otherwise, i think the batman games were all terrific, though arkham knight is the only one from this gen. spiderman was great.

red dead 2 is probably the strongest narrative i've ever encountered in a game. but much like horizon, firing up a new game of that would feel like a massive undertaking, but i'd sooner replay RDR2 than horizon. i wouldn't look forward to grinding materials through hunting all over again though :lol

TLOU remastered is another game i'd love to go back to, to try it on grounded.

cant comment on the games i havent played yet, obviously.

While one can argue bloodbrone and DS 3 are better game overall. Sekiro is a naked game. Very little in way of weapons, level up items, skill trees etc. I thought it was by far the strongest combat wise.

The biggest thing Sekiro has going is combat innovation. Just a completely different way of combat.

Damn I wasn't much of a fan of Live 04 with that ridiculous hop step that turned everyone into TMac. Live 03 was my favorite 5on5 game since it was fast paced and arcade like, and then for simulation I really liked NBA 2k8 for being able to run pretty complex plays for the first time. 2k8 feels like the highpoint of the series though, ever since the additions have just been graphical improvements, roster updates, crap story modes, and microtransactions.

The reason I love Bloodborne is the control feels so intuitive and responsive. I died a lot in the game but never felt it was because I wanted to do something but couldn't. Japan Studio always says they designed Bloodborne to give the player a sense of accomplishment, like what you'd get in the NES days when you'd beat Ninja Gaiden or Mega Man. But unlike those games Bloodborne was never cheap, I'd never feel a death was unfair in Bloodborne like I often would in those two series. It's interesting to try to come up with strategies against difficult bosses and then to have to try to actually execute them in real time.

It's me, not the game, I get that.

Not gonna disagree with Sekiro lack of focus on damage.

Sekiro is almost naked in the damage/buff up rpg elements.

I underatand why people dislike it..And from what Im getting 95% of people who dislike it have the same reason.

Its way heavy on acquiring skills instead of improving the character..I mean the skill tree is the most important thing.

LOL I'm the opposite. In Dark Souls my character would always be in robes to have more agility instead of armor to withstand more hits.

i worry about you man. Your dark souls and Bloodborne history tells me you would hate sekiro.

Sekiro heavily discourages dodging and waiting. It wants you to constantly be on the attack. Constantly being active. Either Parry or attacking.

Sounds more like Bloodborne than Dark Souls then. I play Bloodborne pretty aggressively since the health leech system makes any other play style stupid in it.
