I’ve been looking more into this game. Just learned there are no leveling cap in this game and you can spend time leveling up and then fighting a boss. If you can do that indefinitely then it makes the game a cake walk. I was expecting this game to be a 10/10 in terms of platinum difficulty.
Most places rate it around 6-7.
Do the enemies level up according to your own?
Technically is a level cap, 792 lol. Once you hit level 140 or so it costs so many runes to level up you can really only do it after bossfights unless you just find a really good farming spot or something, at least in the first playthrough. In NG the runes go way up so it's viable to start leveling up again then without having to always fight a boss. It's like Bloodborne though in that even if you're superhero level you'll still get killed if you're trying to fight more than a couple of enemies at a time. Like after I killed Malenia (a really hard optional boss, by far the hardest in the game), got swarmed by a pack of rats in a cave 20 minutes later and got killed. :lol
There was one real cheese magic weapon in the game that made it easy mode but it got nerfed in the 1.03 update. Now that they fixed the bug for arcade scaling there is a new cheese weapon that will surely get nerfed in the next patch. Namely, the one I posted a video for early in the thread.
I don't know how to rate the difficulty of the plat since I rarely go for one. No way in hell I could ever plat the Naughty Dog games for example, but on Elden Ring I have every trophy except the two for the endings I didn't do. Required doing a ton of dungeons and a bunch of difficult boss fights, but you kind of learn to play them as you go. These FromSoft games are always really hard at first. I was getting wrecked early on as it has been a couple of years since I played any FromSoft game (a fact spurraider21 never lets me live down for not finishing Sekiro lol).

filthy casuals. i ended up making multiple playthroughs for the different endings. was pretty surprised at how quickly i was able to get throughs subsequent runs after you've learned the bosses. then they released the mini DLC thing with the boss runs, and that was a lot of fun to play through as well, especially when they gave a few of the bosses even more difficult variations. from a pure combat perspective... maybe the best game i played on PS4? god of war's combat was amazing too, but what made that game 10/10 for me was the world design, story, visuals, etc, in addition to the addicting combat. i guess the vaklyries, and particularly sigrun are as good as fromsoft bosses
sekiro probably has the most replay value of any of the fromsoft games i've played

Pisses me off that Sony isn't going to support FreeSync while XBox has for years now. That's enough reason for me to get a Series X and play all my 3rd party games there since I have my PS5 and Switch (for now) connected to a 4k FreeSync monitor.
There are too many exclusive games Sony pumps out to warrant an Xbox at any point, tbh.

MS made a big move to purchase Activision. They are likely going to focus on gaming hard, and could be about to flood the market with cheap titles just to run off competition. They could easily do it.

Used to prefer PS controllers as well (Xbox controllers felt too big for my tiny girly hands)

I eventually got used to the Xbox Controller

Sony needs to get on top of that and release their own premium service. (PS Now is a joke)
But I also wonder how tenable and long term can Game Pass be. Aren't gaming studios losing lots of money by letting their games not only be on the service from the get but also exclusive to it. At least for a time.

Just curious because a highly disproportionate number of complaints are from people on OLEDs. Though I wonder if that might be because people willing to spend on OLEDs are smart enough to turn all the postprocess crap off for gaming.

Wish they'd list the games. Which tier is Playstation upgrading you to? Too bad the PS3 games will still be streaming only, though PS3 library of games not done better on PS4 is pretty small if you're not into shooters like Resistance and Killzone. I already have way too many backlogged games to even consider a game pass like subscription anyways though.

What this means for you
Your membership is getting a revamp, but you don’t need to do anything. We’ll automatically migrate you to an equivalent subscription plan in the new PlayStation Plus service, unless you let your membership expire before the new service launches.
Rest assured that:
• Your new membership will include ALL the same great PlayStation Plus benefits you enjoy today. From monthly games to online multiplayer, all the good stuff is staying.
• Your subscription fee will not increase and your payment dates will not change when the new service launches, unless you choose to make any changes yourself to your subscription plan or payment frequency.

Nah, Bloodborne is quite a bit more difficult than the mainline Souls games and Elden Ring. You can't use a shield, armor is almost purely cosmetic and you can't do tank builds like you can in Souls and Elden Ring, you are forced to play aggressively because of the system that lets you get health back by counter attacking after being hit, and you have to learn to get parry timing down or you're not going to advance. It's more like Sekiro than Elden Ring or the Souls games, though Sekiro is the hardest FromSoft game IMO. Bloodborne would be second hardest. Of the ones I have played (everything but Dark Souls 2 & 3) I'd rank them from easiest to hardest as
1. Demon's Souls
2. Elden Ring
3. Dark Souls 1
4. Bloodborne
5. Sekiro
Give Bloodborne a few hours. I thought I'd hate it too and only played it because I had just bought a PS4 and had already run through all the Naughty Dog games while the other two games I bought a PS4 for, Horizon Zero Dawn and Nioh, were still a month from being released. So I thought what the hell, it's a well reviewed exclusive and was cheap so got it. And turned out I ended up fucking loving the game.

ive played DS1, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. from those 3, from a pure combat perspective, id agree that sekiro was the most challenging, but particularly during my first playthrough. significantly easier on subsequent runs. im sure bloodborne would still kick my ass if i replayed it though.
but sekiro was definitely the easiest about knowing what to do, where to go. DS1 was the hardest in that regard.

On one hand it's the kind of game you might want to wait to play on PS5 because it's pretty ridiculous at 1800p 60fps on PS5. Probably the best showcase for the PS5 that I have played. While on the OG PS4 and PS4 Slim it has trouble maintaining 1080p 30fps according to Digital Foundry. On the other hand, it's an amazing game and the showdowns are a lot of fun. The stealth not so much, just feels like an old AC game if you play in stealth. Thankfully, the vast majority of the game you can choose to go loud and challenge everyone or play in stealth. The Japanese voice acting is top notch too. Can't say the same for the English, as Jin Sakai sounds kind of soft in the English dub while he always sounds like an angry badass in the Japanese dub.
I think if you have any plans to get a PS5 say within the year I'd hold off playing until you get one. If not I think it probably is worth the $40 right now if it has the Iki expansion, as it would be a hard game to put on the backburner for 2-3 years until you might be interested in a PS5.

I tried the tutorial for Tsushima Legends multiplayer and the graphics and animations were amazing. I was like "I gotta get the campaign" and it reminds me a lot of AC as well which is a good thing imo
No plans to get the PS5 until the price halves or they release a slim. I got a decent gaming pc if I want to try anything real new anyways.

Between the next node drop being only to 5nm from the current 7nm, the cost per transistor not decreasing so fast on smaller nodes these days, and the inflation we're dealing with, I wouldn't hold my breath on the PS5 Slim being much cheaper when it comes out. I'm expecting the PS5 Slim will probably be smaller, use less power (and thus be more reliable), and perhaps offer a bigger SSD and a pack in game since SSD prices per GB are still dropping. Honestly you're getting a lot for $500 with the PS5 right now though. The CPU is very nearly a Ryzen 3 3700X and the gpu is better than RTX 3060 in raster, though weaker in raytracing. Plus the PCIE-4.0 SSD is pretty nice, load times can be ridiculously short on PS5. I hated the thought of consoles going up $100 but this gen I think they're really worth it.
They have to be getting close to quantum tunneling levels assuming they didn't trick fuck the LW reference again.

It's fun now that I could get away from the story and the annoying little sister cutscenes and just explore the city but game is still in a state where it's so buggy they shouldn't have released it yet. Two times in four hours running into bugs that kill progression is ridiculous.
Finally said fuck it and got Elden Ring. Went with a samurai build

You might be waiting a long time then. Sekiro has been out more than three years and only dropped to $30 and it's a way less popular game than Elden Ring.

If you want to test the waters cheap get Dark Souls III Fire Fades Edition, which Gamestop has for $14.88 right now. That way you get PS4 level graphics with 60 fps on PS5 and if you don't like this game you probably won't like Elden Ring, if you do you'll probably love Elden Ring.

Uchigatana has an awesome special attack called unsheathe, but you gotta unequip your shield and two hand your weapon to use it in the early game. The R2 unsheathe is incredible for bossfights.
This has been a great early special to start with. Made quick work of Margit, Godrick, and that turd on the horse in the beginning of the game. Havent got much time in but don't got shit to do this weekend so finally gonna get some grind in

It's actually been my main weapon and special attack for two playthroughs, with only one boss requiring equipping a different special attack to my uchigatana to beat.

Ended up making Blood Uchigatana + 25 my left hand weapon in my final build, replacing Unsheathe with Seppuku. Then right hand was Rivers of Blood + 10. Doesn't do as much damage with normal attacks as the Blood Uchigatana + 25, but when you have a decent amount invested in arkane the Corpse Piler special attack procs bleed damage hard and has tremendous range for a melee attack. Seppuku is mostly there to make my Corpse Piler special stronger.

I don't use magic except occasionally a couple of buffs for boss fights. Good news for you though, the 1.04 patch buffed heavy weapons, made them faster. I think the spells I use for buffs before the most difficult boss fights are Golden Vow and Flame Grant Me Strength.

Nah it gave a buff for a lot of things. Eg cutting down spell casting times and making colossal weapons attack faster for instance. It did nerf some of the blood stuff, and also seems to have cut down the time for the blood loss animation which acted like a stun lock before. Now looks like it'll be a shorter stun lock. Got the plat on Sunday and probably won't touch the game until the DLC comes, though the final boss who had been giving me the most trouble in playthrough #3 is immune to bleeding anyways so it wouldn't affect that fight anyways with my build. Might fuck me in the Malenia fight (toughest boss in the game), though I don't depend too much on blood loss fighting her and instead try to stagger her with power shots since she has low poise.

If you haven't downloaded it yet return that shit and the ultimate edition. It's $11.99 until the 28th and even if you don't care about the 60 fps, you can get raytracing at 30 fps. And the game looks massively better with raytracing. Control is one of the real graphical powerhouses on the PS5.

Yeah feels like the exploration of Skyrim but if you had elite combat too. Though a lot of that 15% achievement will increase fast once you start fighting late game optional and required bosses. Also I highly highly recommend doing the optional Ranni questline. It sets you up for one of the better endings, though doesn't lock you into it if you want to work towards one of the others, and opens up some really awesome areas and bossfights.
While I liked GoW, I didn't like the button sequence portions, reminded me of Guitar Hero. Also, I have tried games that use sorcery and shit, they really annoy me from the time investment vs reward angle. I mean, I started playing WoW with someone years ago, I played for a week and couldn't take it any longer. GTA V and that kind of thing, I can play that all night.

But 4k is a waste on a monitor unless you're going 32 inches or more. Native 4k doesn't look much better on my 28 inch 4k panel than 1440p does, but 1440p is hugely noticeable vs 1080p on the panel. All my sidequests now are annoying parkour challenges that I never do and the combat has never gotten fun. Zombies just feel like hit sponges and you don't get nearly the same feel in combat like in the first when you were constantly chopping heads and limbs off making the game such satisfying gore. Don't like the story at all either with the flashbacks to Mia. Techland kind of screwed the pooch on this one, so far I think I'd give it a 6/10 while the first was a rock solid 9.5/10 for me. The parkour was fun for a while but now it's just kind of same old shit.

Wait so you ended up liking Elden Ring? Thought that game wasn't doing much for you with the step down in graphics from Demons Souls Remake. God I can't wait for the DLC. Might kick the shit out of me since I was on NG+3 when I quit playing though lol.

I finished it, it was great. I simply had bad vibes from Sekiro where you couldn't just walk away somewhere else if you were getting your ass handed to you, and I definitely have some choice words for the lack of even basic tutoring about leveling up, etc.
But past that, and eventually figuring out you were allowed to cheese some bosses as well, it was good.

i went with like a 2 to 1 ratio between stamina and health early on. once you get that paraglider though getting around becomes much easier. my biggest gripe was the grapple hook, i feel like they botched it's functionality in this game compared to the first big time
Do you not get the grapple hook until pretty late in the game? I already have my stamina maxed out at level 26 and my health is like level 9, have taken out all the GRE sites, all the anomalies, turned on all the electric plants and water towers, cleared out all the subway stations, etc, and now only have main quest, which is kind of boring. Also didn't realize you could upgrade the paraglider. I thought that thing sucked until putting a couple of upgrades in that make it so much easier to steer now. But still, feel like I have done the interesting parts of the game and now just have the below par story crap left.

I honestly don't remember, but pretty sure the grapple hook is part of the main questline. it kinda sucks anyway like i said, the paraglider is the best tool for getting around.
I kinda felt that way too. the side stuff was fairly entertaining but unlike the first game the main quest becomes a chore to complete at a certain point
there is also different endings depending on a few choices, so to get the good ending i believe you need to let Hakon live when given the choice and the last mission will give a Lawan related choice, which you should allow her to do. these two i believe get you the "good" ending

JFC the rain effect in Dying Light 2 where you get this big pixelated mess on your glasses is the worst looking rain effect I have ever seen in a game. Makes it a real pain in the ass when you're trying to climb a radio tower and can't see where you should go because the shit is splotching up on your glasses.

I'm still blown away by how bug ridden Dying Light 2 is more than three months after launch. I can't recall the last game I played that had this many bugs in it. I have had so many times in this game where scripting breaks and I can't progress a mission and am stuck with absolutely nothing I can do other than kill myself or reload a save. Techland really fucked up with this game.

Hey man, what system did you play Dying Light 2 on? On PS5 the main quest was super buggy, just filled with places where progression would break and you'd get stuck, and have to back out and reload a save. Made me drop the game to a 5/10 and have no interest in any DLC for this broken piece of shit. Was fun exploring the world for inhibitors but the mission s and combat were trash. And that fight against Waltz is one of the shittiest final bossfights I can remember.

I played in on the series X. I was lucky I guess because i didn't really experience any bugs except for an audio related one a few times. And I agree that final boss fight sucked. i was enjoying the game up until the last 3/4 or so and it felt like a huge chore to finish after awhile

Figured would be on XBox or PC since you liked the game and a developer like Techland who cares way more about PC than console would make a game that runs way better on DirectX. But on PS5 literally every third quest in the main questline would have some bug that would break progression and require a reset. For instance, when I was supposed to be getting the GRE key I couldn't talk to the NPC in the subway who was supposed to give it to me because it said there were enemies around even though the area was cleared out, so had to quit out and reload. In the quest where you're supposed to follow Hakon to the hospital he didn't spawn so had to back out and reload. The quest right after you fought Hakon in the church and are in a trapped room with only one door you can use to get out wouldn't let me use the door because apparently a chase had started and can't open the door when there are enemies around. Back out and reload save. Tried to clear out one of the vaccination centers and a howler spawned offscreen so I couldn't fight it but it could still call virals to swarm me every two seconds. Back out and reload save. All kinds of quests someone wouldn't spawn or a door I had to go through couldn't be used because it said there were enemies around even though everything was dead or something wouldn't render and I'd fall through a hole in the map and it happened over and over. Even the X13 quest in the cutscene where my driver got shot with arrows and drove me into a wall the cutscene just went black the whole time after. Reload and it did it again. So many times I'd get stuck on a quest and have to go pull up a walkthrough on youtube to make sure that no I didn't fuck something up, it was some random bug that made the quest non-doable. That would be inexcusable on Day 1 but JFC 3 1/2 months after launch to see the game that broken still is something.
Also agreed the grappling hook was trash in the game. So frustrating to use I just said fuck doing that final radio tower in the southeast end of the map and just looked up where the inhibitors were there.

That's about where I'd rate it without the bugs, but with them it was a 5/10 on PS5 IMO. I forgot another ridiculous bug I had happen twice: once while clearing out a bandit camp all the enemies just disappeared at once and then once while clearing out a subway station all the bandits again disappeared. POS game on PS5, heard it's even worse on PS4.
And yeah DL1 was incredible, I'd put it 9.5/10. I played it at launch on PC and was slow the first couple of hours but then combat got awesome once you were leveled up enough to start finding swords and sickles that could chop heads and limbs off. In DL2 I could only get those violent animations once I was getting level 6 and up weapons and by that time you're getting kind of late in the game.

i know games being bigger has a lot to do with it, but its really striking to see how buggy games can be these days even when released by huge studios. and even well past release. cod warzone was insanely buggy when i started playing around november/december, and this is a title that launched in early 2020. after months and months they slowly chipped away at the various bugs to the point where the game has actually been in a really good place for the last 2 months or so. but its insane to me that a massive company could have a game out in that condition for such a prolonged period of time.

I wonder if it's not more about the newer tools, kits and engines they use these days that is mostly to blame.
Games like Grand Theft Auto 3 and San Andreas were pretty big games by PS2 era standards and those games ran close to flawless in my opinion.
For comparison, the same company that released said games ended up releasing such a piece of shit remaster versions last year that even the current gen couldn't run it right. Granted the games were given to a third party studio to work and polish but still unacceptable.
Something to think about. Maybe we're giving up perfomance for graphic fidelity..and in some cases both.

Man those GTA games ran like shit on PS2. Playing on a small CRT TV really hid it well, but I couldn't believe how badly Vice City ran when I fired up my PS2 on my TV over component. Most PS2 games look pretty good over component on a modern TV, though definitely not as good as on an old school CRT TV over component. But the sharpness of modern TV pictures does no favors for GTA Vice City and its 20-25 fps performance on PS2. Not defending those mobile port remasters, those are garbage, but bust out your real PS2 and connect it to a modern TV and you'll see you're remembering the games with rose colored glasses.
Still fucking around with RDR2 on PC. Hilarious how characters look around the table after raking a 20c pot :lol

I have it on my series X so it's not a graphical issue or anything, the graphics are just not up to par for a current gen game. The combat is definitely it's redeeming quality though. But constantly picking up new armor and swords and switching between loot got really tiresome
The game throws a lot of loot at you, but you can dismantle it in the smithy between missions or send it to the storage locker. Playing with friends is a blast and sometimes essential for some bosses since the AI likes to take the piss.
This is essentially Final Fantasy 0 story wise considering it takes place in the original world of Final Fantasy 1. The soundtrack is top notch as well remixing old classics. I'm at 30 hours and it looks like I'm at about 25% progress.

Because PS5 can play PS5 and PS4 games in hardware but would have to emulate PS3 games, with the CELL making PS3 emulation a nightmare. Even though the PS5 has a really nice cpu in it, it's below recommended requirements for RPCS3 and games like inFAMOUS 1-2 and RDR1 run kind of crap on even high end cpus like the i9-12900k in RPCS3. And it would take Sony years to make a PS3 emulator as good as RPCS3. Plus a PS3 emulator could be a real security threat for the PS5.

You don't think it would take Sony years to develop something that can top RPCS3? I'm pretty impressed nearly 68% of the library runs well on 6c/12t Intel chips from the Skylake gen and newer in RPCS3. You think they'll hit a bottleneck though emulating on cpu instead of gpu? Is that a logical step for them to make for performance once they're pretty satisfied they're emulating the system accurately?

I don't know about that. Not saying it's easy, but you would really want all the SPE's to run on the GPU. It was something I really wanted to tackle at some point, but it didn't happen.
Speaking of emulation, have you followed MiSTer fpga at all lately? Can't believe they're running PS1 in fpga right now. Dude who wrote the PS1 core said he did a software emulator focusing entirely on accuracy and said he'd need a modern processor clocked at something like 9 to 11 GHz to get it to run full speed in software.
PSN premium already running into walls. Apparently a bunch of PS1 classics such as Siphon Filter are not getting downloaded because of copyright issues so they’re just vanishing from the store.

I'm not sure, it really depends which team at Sony decides to tackle it. Sony knows every corner of the hardware and software of the PS3, something the RPCS3 team didn't really have (they probably had access to the SDK, but not the source of the BIOS and OS).
Japan did the PSP on PS3 emu and the PS1 on PSP, and those were built with that knowledge. On the other hand, back when I was involved in that, we had to write the PSP and PS1 emus from scratch without that info.

No, I've been wanting to buy one, also for the Amiga emulation. On the PS1, that sounds like bullshit to be honest, especially with multicore processors. He might be great with VHDL, but maybe not that great with software emus.
I have some authority to talk about that. Here's a bit of trivia: the PS1 emu shipping games for Playstation Plus Premium is neither the PS1 on PSP emu nor the PS1 mini emu. It's an evolution of the PS1 emu that was originally written and included as an easter egg with MediEvil PS4.

Definitely lives up to the hype, though I prefer going loud and challenging everyone to doing the stealth which feels like an old AC game. Still, I know everyone has been begging for Ubisoft to do an AC game in Japan and Sucker Punch beat them to it. :lol

Man I have been playing the Super Famicom remake of Dragon Quest 3 in Japanese, and it's littered with all kinds of dirty jokes. Like the town in the game famous for its cabaret show is called アッサラーム, which sounds a lot like Ass Ram. Or you pay a girl for a puff puff, she takes you into a dark room in her house, and then you find out it's her fat dad rubbing his tits all over your face when the lights come on.

Did Bleem work well for you? Don't know why I never tried it, as I had a pretty decent PC for the time back then. Thankfully THPS2 got a native PC port that was awesome, looked way better than PS1 or N64 versions. But no PC port for the first one.

Just put an i5-12400F in my system to replace my ancient Haswell Xeon so I really need to see if I can run Age of Calamity at 60 fps on it :lol

That's right, Sony lost 2 lawsuits against them, but the 3rd one over patents didn't even get to trial since Bleem was pretty much bankrupt over legal fees and eventually had to shut down.
I don't know if you know this, but at the time there was also the Connectix Virtual Game Station lawsuit (which Sony also lost), but before Sony would appeal to the SCOTUS, they settled out of court and Sony bought the rights to Virtual Game Station and discontinued it.

Game is so much better now that I focused more on deflections and parrying while I tried to play it like a Souls game the first time trying to dodge and avoid too much. Gotta admit I grinded a bit to get that running attack followed by a jump for the Genichiro fight and was able to sneak out a win against him. There was a surprisingly difficult miniboss that I thought was harder than Genichiro when I went to that temple from the beginning of the game, called Seven Ashina Spears something. Ugh first time I had him posture bar 99% filled and then bounced off his head and off a cliff. Took me a few more tries to finally take him down, but his posture bar felt way harder to fill than Genichiro's.

Also was amazed how easy it was to take down Blazing Bull by baiting a charge and then deflecting the attack instead of trying to chase it and attack from behind while avoiding its horns. Fight was tough with the latter strategy but got it on like 2nd or 3rd try once I started focusing on parrying its charge.

I think it's one of the most fun bossfights I have played in a FromSoft game. Just that battle of attrition and having to sneak hits here and there while deciding if I need to block to regain posture or be ready to deflect. There was still one 危 attack he does in the first two phases I could never counter though, when he spins around and tries to grab you. Could never mikiri counter that and would have to just dodge around him any time he did it. Can you jump and head stomp that attack or interrupt it?

Nah the grab you just have to dodge or jump away. You can only do the goomba stomp if it’s a sweep attack, which he also does at some point iirc
and yeah he’s a very well done boss. There’s one other late game boss that’s a similar fight. Another battle of attrition type fight where it’s even harder to sneak hits in

Yeah first wave he does a jump attack you can deflect followed by an 危 attack that's a thrust so easy to mikiri counter, second wave he does a jump attack you can deflect then an 危 attack sweep you gotta jump and head stomp, then third wave you gotta jump when he does lightning so you're not grounded and send it back at him for like 1/4 of his health bar, plus he's stunned so I can do that L1+R1 attack that runs at him, hits him, then jumps and allows two more hits. I would save all my spirit emblems so I could pull off that L1+R1 attack in the third phase when returning the lighting or healing to bait that diving attack and then dodging and doing that three hit attack.

LOL I was having a lot of trouble with O'Rin because even when I'd build up her posture meter when I'd step back and block to try to regain mine hers would empty too quickly, especially if I'd miss a head stomp on her sweep. Even went to the point of grinding to fill the second and third resurrection meters and then thought what if I just stood in place only deflecting her attacks, blocking to regain posture, and head stomp when she sweeps without ever touching any movement controls. Sure enough beat her the first time without taking a single hit. :lmao

drunkard is a miniboss to be fair. and as for the mist noble, i think thats a situation where the forest itself is kinda considered the boss, finding out where to go. the mist noble is basically a meme.

loved the first guardian ape fight. second one is more annoying than anything, but the smaller ape is considerably weaker. very easy to screw up its posture especially with prosthetic tools.
