Hard to say just yet. I started playing it last night. Roughly 2 hours in and thus far, it's story heavy, sprinkled with a few fights here and there.

Gameplay seems straight forward from the short time I've spent actually fighting. Combos are fairly easy to pull off but I still forget to block/evade most of the time. My favorite fighting style is Rush right now. With an emphasis on speed and dodge, it's way easier.

The story thus far is pretty engrossing. I like it. The mini games are great. I fucked up on most of them. :lol I haven't played a game with QTEs in years.

Is Kuze modeled after a real actor? He reminds me of someone but cant quite put my finger on it.

Ah that sucks if PCSX2 is the way to go, that emulator isn't very good from my layman's view of I just want to play games on it and have them look good. PCSX2 is always awesome the first five minutes when you see what your PS2 games look like at 1080p or 4k, then after 10-15 minutes you realize how many annoying bugs there are that pull you out of the immersion. Both stable and the nightlies still seem like a mess, which is why I just said screw it and bought a real PS2 and made a Free McBoot memory card. 480i ain't as pretty as 1080p but I'll trade that resolution drop for my games not having the laundry list of little (and big) bugs I see in every game I have ever played on PCSX2 for more than 10 minutes.

It's not three different playthroughs. Second "playthrough" has a lot of overlap with the first but isn't the same. Third "playthrough" is 100% new. Fourth and Fifth are just separate "endings" based on late game choices and take only a few minutes to get from your savefile from before the third "ending".

Hard to say at this point since i am only a few hours in and there are a lot of skills i have yet to learn. the combat is solid but nothing groundbreaking. it's not as easy as say DMC where you just hack away and it's not as punishing as Sekiro where you need to constantly be on guard and time your counters perfectly. imo it is kinda similar to AC Odyssey but there is no target lock (that i know of) and the game seems to really emphasize dodges and counter attacks. there is also an element of timed parrying but i'm not sure yet if it's really that imperative or if you can just dodge and counter without really needing it

yeah, combat is challenging, but not demon souls/sekiro challenging. The archers have much better aim than in AC, so you gotta keep moving or take them out early. It's less arcade-ish than AC, but not super challenging and overly complex like the From software games.

Pretty doubtful for the next 4-5 years at least since Sony is probably going to give a 60 fps patch for PS5 and market it as a PS5 game, considering how shit their PS5 exclusive launch lineup looks. We're only getting a port of Horizon Zero Dawn (and in two weeks) because it has already sold as many copies as it was ever going to on PS4 (it drops to $10 all the time now on PS4) and they're trying to expand the player base to build demand for the PS5 and the sequel coming in a couple of years on PS5. Great game BTW, highly worth the full $50 if you're not willing to wait for the CODEX Store to get it (and CODEX has been slow as fuck lately). Kind of reminds me of a third person Far Cry but with better graphics and a more interesting world, and more combat options. If you're looking for a ninja game get Sekiro. CODEX Store has had that one forever and with the fan made patch you should be able to run it 120 fps with a little tweaking on your hardware if I remember right (hexacore i5 and a 1060 right?). I could swear Digital Foundry was running it at 120 fps on an RX 580 in one of their videos.

My favorite is the water stance since there are so many enemies with shields. Once you get the moment right each time and parry its a lot of fun one hit killing yout enemies.

I like that you're not just limited to one way of fighting. There are many ways to dodge+parry in this game that doesn't require the one trick.

Japanese samurai dialogue is so hard to understand because they're always either yelling or mumbling. I can understand a pretty good amount if I'm watching something like Persona, Sailor Moon, Doraemon, Naruto, etc without subs, but throw on a Kurosawa samurai movie and my comprehension rate practically drops to zero... like oh I know that word, then two sentences later oh I recognize that word too while in anime I can usually understand around 60% of it (though sometimes I still struggle with the grammar in real-time). Though Akira is another anime I just flat out cannot understand the spoken language of. Funny because Akira is the very first anime I ever watched. :lol

I stopped paying attention to the big company reviewers a while ago. I go straight for user made reviews on youtube. They are more grounded in reality without the fluff and free handjobs these "experts" give the video game companies.

Last game I bought on expert reviews was Death Stranding. I got burned so bad I still haven't finished the game, it's so bland and boring. Did watch the story on youttube though. Gameplay is terrible.

not sure your exact tastes but Luigi’s Mansion was 9/10 for me. It’s probably a top 7 or so switch game for me. It’s pretty linear and heavily puzzle based. Imo, it’s one of the best games available for the console.

Never understood buying an XBox One unless one is a huge fan of Halo or Forza. Series X makes a lot more sense since it's more powerful than PS5 and they're actually getting ports of all the good third party games now and they have added some hiqh quality first party studios in Obsidian and Ninja Theory. But XBox One was basically a failed HTPC and that campaign to target casuals made them cheap out on gpu and not give a shit about actually getting games people wanted. Don Mattrick really fucked the XBox brand over thinking he'd make into another Wii but with television support.

Because I want to play games in their original language, read manga, and watch anime in the original language. I'm also part Japanese so it's a cultural thing too. Even being very very far from fluent, I pick up a lot of stuff in Japanese games that's not localized in the English version of the game.

Also I need to add... the only way you're going to be able to watch TV and movies in Japanese without subtitles is spending thousands of hours immersed in the language. So either move there or watch a ton of Japanese TV / anime / movies, play Japanese games, read Japanese manga / newspapers / novels, etc with no English subtitles and no English translations. There are some things that are easy in Japanese like the sound system since it doesn't have tones like Chinese dialects or Vietnamese does, but most parts of it are pretty hard. The writing system is just a total mess since they stapled the Chinese writing system on top of the Japanese language maybe 1000-2000 years ago and then later created two "alphabets" (really syllabaries) called hiragana and katakana from those kanji, though those two are the same sounds but just different symbols (katakana is usually used for western loanwords for example). But there is no way to learn it without thousands of hours of exposure.

Never understood buying an XBox One unless one is a huge fan of Halo or Forza. Series X makes a lot more sense since it's more powerful than PS5 and they're actually getting ports of all the good third party games now and they have added some hiqh quality first party studios in Obsidian and Ninja Theory. So far my complaints about Ghost of Tsushima are similar to Odyssey. It's a large, pretty map that's a pain in the ass to traverse (before you can just fast travel) with almost nothing to do. There's just a host of check-some-boxes activities like bathing in hot springs, writing poems, finding shrines, liberating small villages, etc. Of course you're basically forced to participate in these activities so that you can get new gear and level up your skills.

The combat and main missions so far (still pretty early) are on point though. I'm almost wishing this was less of an open world game.

Pretty doubtful for the next 4-5 years at least since Sony is probably going to give a 60 fps patch for PS5 and market it as a PS5 game, considering how shit their PS5 exclusive launch lineup looks. We're only getting a port of Horizon Zero Dawn (and in two weeks) because it has already sold as many copies as it was ever going to on PS4 (it drops to $10 all the time now on PS4) and they're trying to expand the player base to build demand for the PS5 and the sequel coming in a couple of years on PS5. Great game BTW, highly worth the full $50 if you're not willing to wait for the CODEX Store to get it (and CODEX has been slow as fuck lately). Kind of reminds me of a third person Far Cry but with better graphics and a more interesting world, and more combat options. If you're looking for a ninja game get Sekiro. CODEX Store has had that one forever and with the fan made patch you should be able to run it 120 fps with a little tweaking on your hardware if I remember right (hexacore i5 and a 1060 right?). I could swear Digital Foundry was running it at 120 fps on an RX 580 in one of their videos.

I will definitely check out HZD, I have some funds in my Steam Wallet that need to be used.. I do have Sekiro and had the patch to unlock the FPS, but I ended up uninstalling the patch. Can't remember the issue it was causing but locked 60 FPS was better for me in the long run.

Haven't tried it tet, but the new lethal difficulty sounds interesting. I believe it makes all hits lethal (the enemy's and yours), with tighter groups on the dodges and parries.

I mean it could like Batman Arkham Knight and Red Dead 2 were which eventually did get decent performance upgrades (RDR2 was really bad on Nvidia cards early on), or it could be left completely fucked up like NieR Automata and Dark Souls were (both of which needed to be fixed by fan made patches).

Medium settings is just PS4 settings. And you just barely have the gpu to get it done at mostly 60 fps. I'm a little weaker with a 1660 Super so I won't be able to stay above 60 fps it looks like.

i played it for about half an hour and yeah, it's definitely not a great port :lol the cut scenes are definitely where i see the poorest performance. frequent stuttering and frame drops. gonna have to wait for some updates
