On a scale of 1-10 what would rate FFXVI so far? And you playing on the 30fps mode or the performance mode?

it's tough to rate because it's very dissimilar to previous FF titles. it's not really an RPG at all honestly. but in a vacuum i'd give it a 8.5/10 so far. i'm playing on performance mode. most of the time the fps is solid and any drops arent too frequent or immersion breaking.

biggest gripes are - no control over any of your party members, weak armor/accessory customization, needs more ability slots, given the amount of Eikons/abilities you can use, and the constant cut scenes. i also wish they added more sword attack combos ala DMC. thankfully i am enjoying the story a lot so the cutscenes, while tedious, arent that big of a deal.

In my absence I got involved with 8Ball Pool thru Miniclips. It's a blast, though not without it's faults. I spent 1 million coins on a Millionaire Cue Stick. Got it, kicked ass with it till about 20 minutes later when I was informed it needed a recharge...10 million coins for 50 hits! Easy come/easy go.

It's free to play and there is no weird ass tables shaped like farm animals and like with 10 pockets. None of that nonsense. Does 9 Ball and regular asides with extremely high wagers on different tables involving billions of coins.

I settled in the lower regions and have amassed a 100 cue sticks in my (cue locker).

You can advance thru real cash purchases, but you can have a great time just competing. Supposedly the game has 10 million+ players a day thru it. Is there Bots? Sure, a game is always available within 3 seconds. And you can feel it when it's fake, but primarily it's real people, I think.

I've have a grand time with this thing after searching high and low for a decent pool site. The download is quick and the game is stable and easily managed.

I finished it a few weeks back. Never played a FF game before. Played in perf mode. Visually pleasing, but hard not to end up skipping cutscene towards the end.

Also, there's some mandatory side quests padding towards the end of the story that are a bit annoying. Overall, I thought the game was a 7/10 for me. Well done, but nothing memorable about it.

America's on the same kind of trajectory, we're just time delayed a bit from the catastrophic population collapse we're already seeing in Japan for example. And for the same reasons, namely marriage happening way later in life and the associated declines in birthrate thanks to a toxic work culture while the older generations have all the political power and the stack the deck in their favor. And our unemployment numbers are bullshit when you consider 36% of American labor is in the gig economy now.

In the FTC vs Microsoft case some documents Playstation was forced to turn over indicated there will be a $400 PS5 Slim coming this year. Though the PS5 Slim probably won't have a Blu-ray drive and instead will have it as an add on over USB, as has been rumored for a year now. Which would be shitty as hell since I hate having clutter coming off my system's USB ports. Unless they can make the PS5 Slim really small by not needing a Blu-ray drive.

Fucking Rockstar/Take 2 man. I've been waiting for some type of next gen 60fps patch for RDR2 like nearly every other AAA game has received. I'm sure they're just going to do a full re-release eventually for a $70 price tag like they have with GTA V every console generation.

So much for that. No remaster. It's just a 1080p30 fps port of RDR1 to PS4 and god knows what it runs like on Switch. August 17th, $50.

I've never played a crpg before so there is a pretty steep learning curve but once you get the hang of the mechanics it's pretty great. The game is incredibly dense and everything feels very deliberate. Plus no microtransactions, no dlc, no money grabbing bullshit. This is what a AAA game should be

Looks like a Zone of The Enders knockoff. Got strong ZoE vibes from it. Defintely a buy when it goes on sale for like 15 bucks.

I wasn't going to get Buldur's Gate but now I am. The amount of devs tears over this is just too good to pass up. BG3, Spider Man 2 and finally going to take the plunge on Cyberpunk now that the game is apparently incredible now.

I'd love another Fallout or Elder Scrolls since I haven't played one since the Nuka World expansion for Fallout 4 back in 2016. This doesn't look to be one though. Also runs like shit, saw a benchmark video showing I could only do 1440p50-55 fps on medium settings with 80% resolution scale on my RX 6700 XT, what a joke. That's barely above 1080p.

Intro is so boring and then in one of the menus I used the mouse and it immediately disabled the right thumbstick on my controller and couldn't get it back FFS. This is not inspiring me to want to spend any more time in this after the first 20 minutes. Has it gotten good yet? Not impressed with the graphics nor performance either. That opening section my 6700 XT is at 95% usage at barely more than 1080p render resolution with a bunch of settings turned down to medium or low, can't imagine how shit this is going to run in graphically intense sections of the game.

I just got to Jemison probably like three hours in and shit looks like Half Life 2 in 2023. Ouch.

Yeah the performance is running like ass. I have a Ryzen 9 5900x with a 3070 and 32 GB ram and I'm averaging 60 - 70 FPS at 1440. I used the DLSS mod which made it look better and got a ~10 FPS bump.

It's been a slowburn so far for sure.

What's your render resolution though and at what settings? For instance I'm running at 4k but with a 53% resolution scale so render resolution is like 1144p on my 6700 XT. I stick a frame cap of 57 fps on so I don't get tearing when running FreeSync as my monitor can run 40-60 Hz and when using FreeSync or GSync you always want to put a frame cap 3fps below the max refresh rate. From ACG's review I'm thinking this is probably a game that will grow a lot on me so I'll give it 15 hours and if I'm still bored then abandon it.

Render resolution scale: 100% unless if you’re using FSR 2, in which case, 75%
Shadow quality: Low
Volumetric Lighting: Low
Motion blur: Off
GTAO quality: Low
Contact shadows: Low
Enable VRS: Off
Film grain intensity: 0
Enable depth of field: Off
Everything else: Ultra/High

Starfield got old pretty quick. All the clowns claiming this is a 10/10 masterpiece.. :lmao :lmao

it was fun for the first 20-30 hours, until it becomes very apparent how shallow the game is. Waaaay too much menu navigation. Space exploration is essentially non-existent, your ship is basically a vehicle to allow you to fast travel. the space combat is laughably bad and really unsatisfying. Constant inventory management. most planets are all the same, barren with a few stupid alien animals here and there and maybe a mining outpost filled with raiders. rinse & repeat.

it really is just a worse Fallout 4 in space. idk why people are acting like this is some kind of groundbreaking title from Bethesda but it's not. The graphics are ass for a 2023 game. I really, really wanted to like but even the base building is unsatisfying and that was one of the best parts of Fallout 4 imo. Glad this was on game pass so I didnt actually have to buy it. 6/10

If it launched in this state this year, it would probably be my GOTY. It's still IMO the greatest graphical achievement in gaming history by a healthy margin, the characters are varied and interesting, the missions are fucking spectacular, and it's just a completely different experience to launch day. With the new skill trees it's legitimately a fun, almost transformative RPG, the way it allows you to craft a character is incredibly empowering when you start chaining abilities together and laying waste to groups of enemies.

I think most people would say no, as BG3 has had incredibly glowing reviews and also launched in a much more complete state than CP2077 did, so it deserves praise for that.

Personally, though? 2077 is much more immersive to me. BG3 is fantastic but frankly it's difficult for me to dedicate enough time to progress in it because it moves slowly and is so incredibly dense. At some point I'll probably be able to devote enough time to really enjoy it but, not yet.

Do you play with RT reflections and if so at what resolution? They look pretty awesome even compared to SSR ultra, but given I have an 6700 XT they'd probably be the difference between running 1440p vs 1080p like they were on Control for me. None of the other RT effects look like they're at all worth the performance hit, especially RT lighting which completely takes a hatchet to framerate.

EDIT: Nevemind, have to drop FSR's render resolution to 720p to even get ~60 fps in the benchmark with RT reflections on :lol

On my 7900xt, settings are 45% high, 45% ultra, 10% medium (totally estimating). I use XESS Balanced @ 3440x1440 and have raytracing reflections off but lighting turned on medium. I get a solid 85 FPS with 1% dips to 73-76, which keeps gameplay very smooth and responsive.

I've toyed with turning both reflections and lighting on, it drops my FPS to 70 but 1% lows drop into the 50s and honestly reflections are still rasterized in many places even when RT is turned on, so I think overall lighting is more transformative scene to scene.

Still tweaking settings. I may try to find some mods that improve performance a bit without a cost to visuals and then turn reflections back on. Right now it's close to being smooth but I just prefer the extra frames.

I can post a SS with my settings if you want.

When FSR 2.2 and FSR 3.0 are released for CP2077 I'm probably going to be able to run RT on ultra, that'll be dope.

WTF getting that low performance on XESS Balanced with a 7900 XT? That's only like 2024x847 render resolution, which is only 83% of the pixels of 1080p. I'm in the 50s on a 6700 XT with Hardware Unboxed's optimized HUB Quality settings at 4k quality FSR 2.1, which is 2560x1440 render resolution. But there is no RT whatsoever in those settings.

They crap on RT lighting and argue only RT reflections are worth turning on unless you have a 4090 for RT overdrive, though that 25% performance drop for RT reflections seems like it only applies to current gen Nvidia.

Why XESS over FSR also? It's a huge performance hit vs FSR 2.1 on my 6700 XT and I think FSR 2.1 looks better, at least at 1440p render resolution upscaled to 4k. Like a 15-20% drop in FPS using XESS Quality vs FSR 2.1 quality at 4k for me.

I probably need to overclock my RAM, just haven't had time to mess with it. I also need to update my mobo BIOS.

I think XESS looks great on balanced TBH, probably slightly better than FSR. I've read 2.2 is a significant upgrade for both frame rate and visual quality.

Pros
- Flawed masterpiece

- combat better than Yakuza 0
- Good side quests (not at Yakuza 0 level though)

Cons

The legends Conspir4cy, CODEX, Reloaded, 3dm, Baldman, Skidrow, Voksi, etc are all long retired and Empress is the only one cracking Denuvo any more. And sometimes Empress trolls like when they released Maneater despite it being a free game on Epic Game Store. Most Denuvo games don't get cracked these days and Empress won't crack a game until they get $500 in donations for it. Still lots of non-Denuvo games like Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield, Cyberpunk, Forza, Elden Ring, any Playstation game ported to PC, etc you can pirate and lots of games drop Denuvo after a while, for instance Live a Live just dropped it. But for Denuvo games cracked this year it's pretty slim pickings: the Denuvo games cracked this year have been Resident Evil 4 Remake, Judgment, AC Valhalla, Hogwarts Legacy, Dead Island 2, Monster Hunter Sunbreak, and some shitty wrestling game. SkidrowReloaded.com is still my favorite place to get games off of but they just upload shit other people crack. Empress' last crack was two months ago (Judgment). Reddit's r/crackwatch is probably the best place to watch for new game releases.

I don't know how PS3 FES performs on PCSX2 and you really don't need to play it per se seeing as there's no continuity of the Persona series from one game to another like the Final Fantasy series but I liked PS3 FES a little bit better than Persona 4 which says a lot since I really really liked Persona 4.

Like a Dragon 8 is a turn based RPG coming out next year, called Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth in the west.

It's a sequel to Yakuza Like a Dragon, called Like a Dragon 7 in Japan, which played like a Dragon Quest game in the Like a Dragon universe. I thought Yakuza Like a Dragon was a really solid 9/10. Not as good as Persona 3/4/5, more on par with say Final Fantasy VII Remake or Dragon Quest 11. Follows in the storyline of Iciban Kasuga.

Is it much different gameplay wise from part one or the Miles game?

it is not dissimilar, no. If you have recently played either Miles Morales or 2018, you will pick it off as if you were playing the other games.

You’re essentially getting better graphics, deeper (and much better story) along with a few tweaks to your abilities and combos while in combat. For example, you can parry the enemy in this game akin to Ghost of Tsushima. Other than that, they have pretty much left the gameplay alone and I must say I appreciate that.

Not really free since you pay for Playstation Plus to get it. Plus Sony jacked the prices way up. If you want (nearly) free you should check PC Game Pass on the $1 14 day trial. Figure that'll be enough time to play through Like a Dragon Gaiden and maybe Dead Space Remake before cancelling. :lol

Man PoorC gaming is getting annoying. When I was playing The Last of Us Part 1 I was getting dogshit performance on good hardware until I found out I had to go disable Resizable BAR in my BIOS (it lets the cpu see all of the gpu's VRAM), and then it was awesome. Forgot about it for a while and everything I played ran great. Then a couple of days ago started up Dead Space Remake and it was a stuttering mess and not matching benchmarks at all for my hardware. Then out of the blue I remembered I had turned off Resizeable BAR in my BIOS a few months ago for The Last of Us and went and turned it back on and low and behold now Dead Space Remake started performing like in published benchmarks again. Ugh to think you have to jump through these kind of hoops just to get PC games working properly.

supposedly there are going to be 3 lost levels. i am curious to see how they are integrated. like are they going to be where they intended them to be in the game, or are they going to be playable separately as an extra mode or something. for $10 though, i'm definitely going to get it. the No Return mode looks pretty cool:

Feels like a Souls easy mode. Kind of cool so far, doing a dexterity build. Great atmosphere so far. And I know you're not an FSR fan, but FSR Quality at 4k looks pretty great on this for me. Wish they implemented FSR Ultra Quality though since I think I'd have enough gpu to run that setting if it was offered, but definitely don't have enough for full fat native 4k. PS4 version with BC on PS5 is better than the PS5 native version IMO. Resolution isn't as high (1800p checkerboard which is really 1600x1800 = half 1800p for PS4 BC while 1440p to 1600p on PS5 native) but the framerate is rock solid 60 on the PS4 BC mode while lots of drops into the 50s on the PS5 mode. And some drops into the high 40s when on horseback.

nonsense, i still think Kos was harder than any one fight in sekiro. heck i'd say a few of the chalice dungeon bosses were tougher than anything in sekiro (not that sekiro was any picnic). the chalice dungeon version of darkbeast paarl, abhorrent beast, or fighting the amygdala with only partial health since it was in the "defiled" chalice. i think those gave me more pain than any single sekiro opponent

i dont know if you ever did the DLC stuff in sekiro. there were the gaunlets or mini boss runs, with final bosses that were harder versions of Owl, Genichiro, Ishiin (old man version and sword saint version). now those were a bitch, especially since just to get a fight against the stronger owl (Inner Owl), you had to complete a small gauntlet that included the fucking demon of hatred. considering the number of attempts it took to finally take down any of those final bosses, it was pretty cool to basically be able to sweep through some bosses with relative ease after a while.

i never bothered doing the ridiculous last gauntlet which basically had you do a boss run of the entire game followed by each of the new "inner" bosses

but even just completing the 4 normal gauntlets... ok that was tougher than kos :lol

finished shadow of the tomb raider including the dlc stuff

was reasonably fun. not much innovation from the prior entry, more of the same, but the same is good.

this tomb raider triology to me compares very favorably with uncharted. uncharted is without a doubt much better from a cinematic and graphics point of view, along with having more fun to follow stories, funnier dialogue, etc

but purely from a gameplay perspective, i think tomb raider trilogy > uncharted series. uncharted 4 did have the grapple hook, but tomb raider has had the pickaxe, grapple hook as well with altogether better exploration mechanics. combat is pretty weak in both, but stealth in tomb raider is a much better tool

this tomb raider triology to me compares very favorably with uncharted. uncharted is without a doubt much better from a cinematic and graphics point of view, along with having more fun to follow stories, funnier dialogue, etc

but purely from a gameplay perspective, i think tomb raider trilogy > uncharted series. uncharted 4 did have the grapple hook, but tomb raider has had the pickaxe, grapple hook as well with altogether better exploration mechanics. combat is pretty weak in both, but stealth in tomb raider is a much better tool

onto miles morales next

Pretty fair assessment tbh. I enjoyed the hell out of the newer TR games, though the last was a bit lacking compared to the first two. Uncharted 4 to me was the best of all the games though, fantastic story telling with all the epic moments you'd expect in an Uncharted game.

Hope we get new games for each of those series at some point. I would not be surprised to see an Uncharted game set in the future with Drake's daughter as the protag. And for TR they have endless possibilities for sequels

yeah dont get me wrong, storytelling is a huge part of what makes games good these days. its why i loved God of War 2018 so much. its why everybody loves TLOU. the gameplay is great in those games too, but the story takes them over the top. the story is what defines RDR2.

and from that perspective uncharted is in a tier of its own compared to tomb raider. i just see them as competitor games because the gameplay is all about exploration, climbing, puzzle solving, and shitty combat. and in terms of just the gameplay elements i find TR a lot better

Yeah I loved Uncharted 4. I'm still blown away my dinky PS4 Slim could run the game and run it flawlessly. I doubt we'll see another game in this Tomb Raider series though, as the last one cost a lot of money to produce and didn't sell too well. We'll probably see another Tomb Raider at some point but it'll be a series reboot in a completely new direction like how God of War 2018 was.

Will give it ten hours to see if it hooks me in.

I played on PS5. It took me a bit to sorta get into it, but after the first two bosses, I was hooked. Reviews were pretty good too. For a Soulsborne not made by From, I thought it was excellent.

I'd put it right next to Bloodborne for best game this century. Don't think I can pick between the two.

Elden Ring is great because unlike Sekiro, if you’re getting your ass pounded, you can take the horse and go somewhere else. It’s a huge world. I might actually replay it. I grabbed a Portal now that I’m on vacays and might actually take it for a spin again after the Valhalla dlc.

Having an absolute blast with this. Utterly brilliant in nearly all respects. Still probably a patch or two away from perfection but IMO is already the best racing game of all-time for pure driving experience. Once they fix the bit of tyre slip they're having and implement a career mode AMS2 will be the best race sim in history.

Kind of on the fence here. Just beat Draymond and rescued Geppetto and it's kind of cool so far, but don't think the controls are anywhere near as good as a FromSoft game.

Sekiro lets you put some hours in playing the game wrong but then you get to a boss who you absolutely cannot even be competitive with much less beat without becoming pretty competent at the deflection and parry system. First time I played it I made the mistake of trying to play it like a Souls game instead of mastering the swordplay and got stuck at that boss and quit playing. Came back a couple of years later and decided I would practice the swordplay even against early bosses that didn't require it and it became one of my favorite games of last gen.

Well, we talked about this before. I’m not into mastering swordplay. Elden Ring lets you go somewhere else and level up to the point where you can beat anybody. It also rewards you if you come up with a way to cheese a boss. Sekiro is just not forgiving like that.

that genichiro fight is one of the greatest boss fights in any souls game imo. not because he's particularly hard, but because like you said, he reflects a true skill check and is very satisfying to fight once you get it down

father gascoigne was similar in that you had to really learn to play the game well, he just came a lot earlier in bloodborne

Gascoigne wasn't too hard for me, but that was probably because I had to learn how to beat Eileen the Crow at level 1 after aggroing her when I threw a molotov in her face because I pressed the wrong button when I didn't know the controls of the game very well. Since can't go back to an old save she'd come and kill me every time I went in that church in Central Yharnam until I got good enough to kill her. Was a very rough first few hours in that game. :lol

bloodborne was a really rough couple of hours for me as well. even just going through the region in central yarnham with the big bonfire was a challenge for me. and then fastforward later and i'd just run thru central yhanham a few times just for the stupid task of collecting blood vials

dark souls 1 was similar only because in my first playthru i just kept going directly to the cemetery where the skeletons wrecked my shit before i realized i wasnt supposed to go that way. once i learned the way to go in Dark Souls i dont really remember a particular boss or area where i felt completely walled in. maybe sen's fortress was annoying.

The big guy under the stairs skullfucked me repeatedly at level 1, but kept fighting him anyways since I wanted to get the parry timing down. :lol

Elden Ring has a couple of those great moments too where you can stumble into a fight you have no shot in hell of surviving as soon as you exit the starting dungeon and step into the main world.

that guy hit like a truck but tbh found him not too difficult to deal with.

bloodborne was also my first souls game. and one of the first games i played overall after my gaming hiatus. basically didnt game at all from early 2014 until some point in 2018 when i dusted off my ps3 and played fallout new vegas for the first time. and then i bought my ps4 on black friday 2018. dont remember the exact sequence of games i played, but bloodborne was one of the first 4-5 games i played. i know spiderman was the first, then god of war, the last of us, and rdr2 in some sequence. bloodborne probably right after those iirc

the amount of good single player content i consumed from late 2018 thru late 2021 was great, considering the good stuff i had missed out on, and the loads of free time i had before having kids and having moved across the country from all family/friends.

then end of 2021 i got suckered back into cod by my friends back home :lol. giving that a rest for now tho since having kid #2. no time for online gaming sans pause button

miles morales is good fun so far. plan to basically do a 100% run on this playthrough then do a NG+ playthrough mainly focusing on main story just because there do seem to be a few things only unlockable on NG+, like a suit, some abilities, and even a new difficulty setting.

im glad the little challenge mode stuff seems easier than Spiderman 1. getting the gold completion on those challenges was the single most frustrating part of completing that game. they still have taken me multiple attempts on most but they are much less infuriating. already completed all the traversal and combat challenges. i havent unlocked the stealth ones yet

I gotta play that shit, it looks amazing, but currently busy with Lies of P. Lies of P is really nice graphically and the framerate is rock solid running 4k FSR Quality (so 1440p rendering) on my 6700 XT, plus you can just buy a $1 14 day trial of PC Game Pass to play through it. :lol

got the "point of no return message" yesterday and was a little surprised even knowing it was a short game. i'll probably wrap it up tonight. plan to do an NG+ run just blitzing thru the main story again on the harder difficulty after unlocking the extra content

all in all in feels barely longer than the DLC from Spider-Man 1. the quality of the game is quite good, but not sure its worth the cost of a full game. glad i got it cheaper by waiting
