I don't understand the hate this game gets. Yeah I liked Joel too but what happened was great for the story. I will say I should have played this on PS4 long before I got a PS5. The 60 fps is nice but I don't think it adds a whole lot to the game since the environments are so dark that you usually don't pay much attention to the framerate. Plus base PS4 was a locked 30 fps from benchmarks I have seen.

I mean yes, that was part of the problem but people had far more issues with manbody as a character and then you play as that thing for 70% of the game. It was a terrible decision.

To be honest, the manish look didn't bother me (It just provided the lols) nor did the fact she killed Joel as what comes around goes around but the way they advertised the game was highly misleading. I did not expect to spend the majority of the game playing as someone else other than Ellie. And yeah her story also didn't help any. Personally it was a chore to play her part of the story.

I would've been ok with the ending the way it was if there was a good enough reason for it. There was no reason for Ellie to suddenly have an epiphany of mercy at the last minute given she wrecked everyone else in the course of the game. It was just some silly shit.

Fair enough, I can understand thinking one thing based on the trailers and getting something unexpected and how it would be disappointing (thanks Halo 5). I would somewhat disagree about the ending as given the events leading up that moment...but I don't wanna post any further spoilers so I'll just leave it at that

BB, don’t read.

What does her story add overall? What is the overall message from seeing things from her perspective? You don’t really get invested in her NPC-inspired backstory because it’s a blip. Her relationship with her friends was monotone and boring. The shit with the tranny is fucking stupid. There’s nothing compelling about her or her story, especially when held up against Joel and Ellie. With the latter, you had an entire games’ worth of backstory to become invested. The linebacker was rushed and ultimately a waste because you can’t get into it - no one is saying her story is compelling for a reason.

That and fans of the series waited years to play a new adventure with Ellie and Joel... offing Joel is not that big of a deal if you get to basically play Ellie for the rest of the game, but you don't. If they wanted to do a spinoff, they should've called it something else, IMO.

This isn't Uncharted where you mow down thousands of dudes and then laugh it off at the end.

But as far as Abby's story, it's all about redemption for herself. She's been where Ellie is and it's led to nothing but pain for herself and those around her. Now she's trying to forgive herself and move on. Ellie is on the downward trajectory obviously. Those who question why she lets Abby go at the end didn't understand the game I guess. At some point she has to let go of the hate for her own sanity. Just as she started to forgive Joel for his secret, she starts to let go of that rage she feels for Abby.

Coming out next month too. Sucks that it's $30 for PS5 owners though when the PS4 price is $20. Oh well, will probably still get it Day 1. Just hope the enemies scale with your level because I don't want to start a new 120 hour playthrough just to get to the new island.

Pretty sly of Sony to kind of mask the pricing of the expansion pack with the upgrade. It should be free if you own it.

In this case, it works out for me because I won't be out 65+30 as my copy of the base game was provided by our own Elnono so I will just simply buy the expansion+upgrade at 30 bucks.

TV-Style Commercials Are Coming To Console Games
This whole idea can just go straight into the trash

There are ads on YouTube, ads on Twitch, and ads when you’re playing mobile games, but you know where there aren’t ads? Console games. And that’s something capitalism would like to change.

As Axios reports, a company called playerWON (kill me), described as “a first-of-its-kind in-game advertising platform” (bring me back then kill me again), has signed deals with companies like EA and Hi-Rez (Smite) to try to bring TV-style commercials to their console games.

Having tested this tech for over a year, they feel like it’s now ready to be implemented, the idea being rather than just beaming videos to them in the middle of a game, players would be able to view an ad then, when servers detected the commercial had been viewed in its entirety, “release rewards to the player.”

You can have a little reward. As a treat.

This tech would be licensed out to developers so it could be implemented in the game itself (unlike the ads we already see on consoles, in places like system menu screens), and they’re trying to justify it by saying that because young people are “cord-cutters”, they’re unreachable via traditional, cheaper marketing, and are only being reached by branded content deals (like the sneakers and clothes in NBA 2K, or cup noodles in Final Fantasy).

Which is expensive, so ad companies would prefer something easier and cheaper. Like this.

Testing has been taking place inside Smite for around a year, and the findings are as awful as you’re probably expecting:

Data from one of Simulmedia’s pilot campaigns with Smite, a F2P multiplayer battle arena game from Tencent’s Hi-Rez Studios, shows that players were much more likely (22%) to play a game and spend money within the game (11%), if they watched in-game ads that gave them access to more gaming perks.

As a result, playerWON “plans to launch in-game ads in roughly a dozen more games by the year’s end.”

Abby is the continuation of the story of Ellie and Joel. There needed to be consequences for Joel murdering all the doctors in Salt Lake and I'm glad there were. Kind of sad to see Ellie grow up into such a piece of shit though, Abby had so many chances to kill her but never wanted to blame Ellie for Joel's actions even after Ellie murdered the love of her life. Getting to be Abby and see what a decent person she was at her core told so much about Ellie and how fucked up a person she had become. So it was no surprise when she abandoned Dina and JJ. The contrast between Abby having a good head on her shoulders and being a decent person vs Ellie who had no command over her emotions was awesome, I loved it.

Something interesting I read. Ellie going back to the empty house probably wasn't the bitter ending it looked like at first where it looks like she just leaves the guitar because she sucks at playing it now with the two missing fingers, her thirst for revenge costing her her only connection to Joel. Turns out she was wearing Dina's bracelet when she went back to the farm and didn't have any of her weapons, while she didn't have that bracelet when chasing Abby down in Santa Barbara. So she likely went back to Jackson, made up with Dina, got her bracelet back, and maybe was just going back to the farm to bring some possessions back home.

I've read that too, it's definitely open to interpretation. I've also read Part 3 theories. The most plausible is that Abby aids the fireflies in continuing her Dad's work, and Ellie at some point sacrifices herself for the cure - bringing some level of redemption for both characters.

Just started Dragon Quest XI S. Wow didn't know Tokyo's Symphony Orchestra did the soundtrack for this. Can't believe it has taken me until 2021 to play a Dragon Quest game considering this is the series that invented the JRPG as we know it back on the Famicom / NES.

My backlog of games are thinning. It’s kind of sad.

I’m 100%ing these games too just to delay the inevitable when I have zero games to play. I might have to sub to PlayStation Now while I wait for PS5 games to start trickling in.

I'm in the same boat.

I bought Alien Isolation for $8 last week and just finished it. All I have left is Metal Gear Solid V but I can't seem to get into it anymore. I'm at about 30% completion. The game feels like a chore, it's so repetitive.

Time to start hunting a PS5.

If you're getting bored with PS4 games there isn't a whole lot on PS5 that's going to keep you too busy. Demon's Souls is probably worth picking up if you never played it on PS3 and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart looks awesome, but otherwise Miles Morales is on PS4 and Returnal looks kind of meh IMO. I bought my PS5 mostly to play PS4 games like Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Dragon Quest XI S, Final Fantasy VII Remake, etc at 60 fps and to play the two Spiderman games at 60 fps with raytracing. I have yet to play a PS5 game that's not on PS4... well, unless you want to count Astro's Playroom. Which is a pretty cool game though only a few hours long.

Honestly have to say Demons Souls is a lower tier Souls game. Still good, but not Bloodborne nor Dark Souls nor Dark Souls III level. Tsushima really is something at 60 fps, that one is worth waiting for. I enjoyed the hell out of TLOU Part II, but think it would have worked almost as well at 30 fps. I wouldn't wait to get a PS5 if you haven't played it.

Damn, you didn't parry all the time in Bloodborne? I don't parry much in the Souls games where backstabs are easier, but for me Bloodborne was learn to parry or die. Speaking of Souls games, Dark Souls III The Fire Fades Edition is $15 right now at Walmart. Though that game runs at a locked 60 fps on PS5 so might want to save playing it for then.

Annoying park or Sekiro was that it always taught you to parry not dodge but then would throw in the bull (or later, demon of hatred) which works better with dodging and treating it like Souls.

for the bull, easiest way is just to try to stick to its ass and start chipping damage away slowly. You can technically parry but it’s quite tough and iirc you still accrue burn. Not sure.

also, if you eavesdropped on the guard tending to his dead horse you should know that beasts/animals have a weakness/exploit

Hey man, if you're trying to get a PS5 you might try going to Playstation Direct. It's probably too late to get in on this sale if it's not open to the public (not sure if it will be or not), but today they sent out invites for some people signed up with it to buy PS5's direct from Sony.

Having played 0-4, 0 is my favorite so far. Kiwami was a quite a bit shorter if I remember right. Kiwami 2 was excellent. Not quite 0 IMO, but quite a bit better than Kiwami 1. Fans of the series tend to rank 0, 2, and 5 as the great games in the series though. Of the ones I have played I'd rank them

0 > Kiwami 2 > 4 > Kiwami 1 >> 3

I think probably so since I think there is no PS5 version of the game and PS5 is just playing the PS4 Pro version but with enough hardware to get it to 60 fps. It's a real bitch when there is an explicit PS5 version though, eg Final Fantasy VII Remake and Yakuza Like a Dragon I don't think you can migrate PS4 savefiles to if you want to play the PS5 version of the game.

A Plague’s Tale was surprisingly entertaining but took a minute to get into. Gameplay isn’t remarkable, but it does a good job of conveying an atmosphere. The soundtrack is amazing and it actually made good use of the dual shock aspect to the controller.

Played a bit of Astroneer with my kid. Quick to learn and play, space survival game. Nothing overly scary, so very kid friendly.

Playing a lot of Hearts of Iron IV, and have played that with one of my older kids' friends who likes real time sims. Hands down best WW2 game I have seen in 30+ years of playing WW2 games, both board and computer. Kid is playing Germany, I am playing the US. I think he has more experience with the game generally, but made the mistake of goading the UK player to invite the US into the war in Apr of 1940. We had to stop for the night, but I spent the pre-war run up building bombers that he has not built defenses for, and he can't build fighters because his only source of rubber was buying them from me.

Ah so you got the non-DLC plat from Horizon too. Picking anything up in the summer sale? I got Judgment at $26. Still not ready to spend $50 on Demon's Souls though after playing the shit out of it on PS3. Man the sales are boring when you already have 90% of what you want on the system. :lol

Yeah I thought about picking up the DLC but given how long it’s been out and it’s still 10 dollars I said fuck it. Specially when the complete edition is going for 20 with it included.

Ghost of Tsushima is my next one to clean up. I may or may not do another full playthrough in preparation for its DLC later this month, we’ll see.

I finally beat FF7 remake. playing on PS4 vs PS5 is like night and day :lol game ran like complete shit on PS4

It was okay overall but honestly, really disappointed with how the last few chapters played out and i really didnt like all the random changes they made to the story. last boss fights were pretty meh also. And the inclusion of Sephiroth in this part when he wasnt really in it at all during midgar portion of the original was kinda lame, especially since the game heavily relies on the assumption that you played the original. the whole "Whispers" thing was kinda silly i thought also. overall a 7/10

I've been playing 2k21 for like a week now. I am playing myleague with the Spurs and this is so fucking easy. I was playing on supersar and defeated the Clippers 218 - 91. I am playing 10 min quarters and then it simulates the stats as it was a 12 min game. Fucking Lonnie Walker is incredible, you just get a rebound, pass the ball to him and no one can do anything to him. I've also made only one trade and it was Mitchell Robinson for a second rounder and Samanic. Anyway, the game still sucks. Cant wait to see if 2k22 sucks even more.

Speaking of PS2, they're really easy to mod these days with a Free McBoot memory card. If you have a fat model you can install a hard drive, play roms shared over your network from your PC or a Raspberry Pi, or install an internal SD card. With a Slim you can do the roms shared over the network thing also. Or on any PS2 I think there is an exploit called FreeDVDBoot which you apply when burning any PS2 DVD to play burned games on a stock PS2, no memory card exploit needed even.

And if you have an SCPH-37001 PS2 fat you can use the Tonyhax exploit to play burned PS1 discs, though that requires having a legit PS1 game (THPS 2 or 3, Cool Boarders 4, and a few other games work) and an exploited PS1 memory card. Not sure if works on the SCPH-30001 and SCPH-31001 PS2 fats and it definitely doesn't work on the SCPH-50000 series and above since they no longer have the actual PS1 chip on the board anymore. Still, an SCPH-37001 Fat is pretty awesome if you want to play pirated PS1 and PS2 games on actual hardware and the picture looks really good over component cables.

PCSX 2 kind of sucks. I have never played a game on it that didn't have the kind of graphical glitches you're talking about. Not on the 1.4.2 version that was the stable for years. Not on the nightly builds. Not on 1.5.0 stable. Not on the new 1.6.0 stable. It's like the opposite of Dolphin. Can't believe the state of PS2 emulation is so bad when Wii U has a first rate emulator for years in Cemu. Pretty soon PS3 emulation will be better than PS2 emulation too.

PS2 library is pretty wild, has amazing games for any taste and probably has the most creative game library of any system. Plus PS2 systems are cheap even with the huge bump in prices most systems have seen in the pandemic. I love emulation but PCSX2 just doesn't at all live up to original hardware IMO. PCSX2 is so buggy it completely defeats the awe factor of rendering PS2 games in 4k.

Now PS1 emulation is a whole other story. The DuckStation emulator is easy to setup and use and feels like a real PS1 if you play with a wired controller. Plus it has a lot of options for bumping up the graphics both meant for 2D games like Castlevania or 3D games like Tekken.

CP2077 was a great game. The problem is people had waaaay too high expectations for it. looking at the game in a vacuum and ignoring all the hype its a solid 8/10 in terms of gameplay and story, imo. I played on PC and didnt have real any bugs save for some potato graphics here and there. but i guess if your expectations were based on the e3 video from 2018 or whenever it was, i can see why this would be a disappointment.

The studio itself hyped it to be something it was not. There was a bunch of stuff they say would be in it that totally wasn't.

There was a reddit thread listing everything that was supposed to be in but got taken out and leaned out at the end by the developers and still couldn't run on PS4.

I can understand why anyone with a PS4/Xbone would be upset, as they should be. It was a terrible launch, not disputing that at all. CDPR deserves a lot of criticism for making promises they couldnt keep, putting out an unfinished product, and using the success of Witcher 3 to hype up CP2077 and grift everyone out of a ton of money in preorders.

my point was only regarding the game itself. ignoring all the negativity surrounding CDPR, the botched release, and it being unplayable on last gen consoles - if you can run this game on a PC without issue, and don't have incredibly high expectations of some revolutionary gameplay experience, you'll probably enjoy it. honestly i never bothered to look into anything regarding the game before it came out, because i wanted to go in as fresh as possible. so that may be why i dont have such a terrible view of it, and since i never had issues running it on my PC either. but i completely understand why this game receives the negativity it does.

Apparently there isn't a whole lot of difference between buying the PS4 version of the Tsushima expansion and playing on PS5 via BC vs getting the PS5 native version. Like checkerboarding to 4k instead of 1800p, and faster load times. Though load times are already really fast on PS5 playing the PS4 version through BC. And the cutscenes are rendered in real time now so the animation matches the voices if you're playing in Japanese. Kind of doesn't seem worth the $10 upgrade tbh, might as well just buy the $20 PS4 DLC and play through BC.

big under $20 sale on PSN

picking up hellbalde for $7.50

some good deals out there for games i've already played.

Ended up picking up the same game along with the Ultimate edition of Metal Gear Solid 5 which has like everything in it for even less the Senua’s Sacrifice at just 6.99. :lol

JFC I had to clear 220GB of free space to install Cyberpunk off disc. Also how retarded is it on a system that only comes with about 660 GB of usable storage that it records video by default for each trophy? I had like 7GB of 13 second videos from trophies taking up space on the SSD in about 6 months of usage of the system.

Yeah that's a hell of a deal. Dragon's Crown for $5 is awesome too if you like Vanillaware beat'em ups with RPG elements. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is really good too, but for some reason keeps its price a lot more (it's $17 in this sale, which is the lowest it has ever dropped). Yakuza 0 & 6 are $5 also.

Disable one of the two. By default the PS5 takes a snapshot and a 14 second clip. I like the little videos so I’m keeping those and disabled the other. I have been coming up with a backup plan. As I fill it up, I’ll just copy and move the completed albums to an external hard drive as a keepsake.

It's interesting. Gameplay wise it's like....old God of War mixed with Diablo and Destiny. And i don't know if that sounds like a good thing or a bad thing :lol

It's is really nice graphically (playing this on PS5). on hard it's fairly challenging and some of the boss battles have been entertaining. it's kinda grindy and definitely needs to have more shit to do though. but it's been a fun time killer after work for the last week

I stayed away from genshin impact, but man that’s a huge mistake.

The single player experience is a legit 8/10. So many great ways to customise your characters. The combat is fun and the quest are decent so far. I can’t wait to access multi player

I thought this game would be pay to win, but looks like paying is unnecessary to finish the single player and it’s to enjoy the multiplayer even without spending a dime.

Enjoyment level 10/10 so far

Combat is a million times better than Witcher
Story is mediocre, but it’s passable and interesting enough to keep on playing
Customisation is 9/10

You can play it on your pc, iPhone, and ps5

ridiculous that they had 3 years in between the gem that was infamous 2 and the release of 2nd son, on a new platform, and that was the best they could do

if they did a remaster of the original infamous games the way they did with the Batman: Return to Arkham thing, i'd buy them in a heartbeat. infamous 1 and 2 were among the best games of the ps3 generation. would actually be cool if they did because i remember there were some instances where frame rates would drop during some hectic scenes, especially when using grenades against some big crowds

Man, Dragon Quest XI S requires so much grinding to get the platinum. I'm one trophy from getting it but it requires an optional bossfight that can only be beaten by grinding tons of rare and hugely expensive items. It's like the anti Bloodborne in that this boss is so cheap and there is no winning strategy against it other than spamming a couple of spells that require using a really difficult to obtain item every time. And you gotta do it 30 to 50 times in the battle lol. Great game otherwise, but so cheap if you want to get the plat.

baseline bum

Finally got the plat in DQ XIS the other day through an exploit you can do to get the last outfit. Have been playing Dragon Quest 1 on Super Famicom the last few days and it's pretty cool seeing the original JRPG that inspired everything else from Final Fantasy to Chrono Trigger to Persona. Was originally going to play on Famicom but that version uses no kanji so is a real pain to read, the Super Famicom version uses kanji a lot more so is quite a bit easier to read.

Kind of sad to hear Deathloop has a roguelike component to it though not as severe as Returnal where you die, you restart from the beginning with nothing but your base weapon.

In Deathloop you are give 2 continues and then you are sent back to the start of the map. BUT you get to keep the weapons you’ve crafted which is the difference maker here.

Thats what I gathered from early reviews anyways.

It's both, but not as punishing as Returnal. It also has some mechanics so you get to keep some weapons and abilities after you get killed and the loop restarts.

2. A big sale on Persona games (in Japan)
3. Two live action Persona 5 plays (in Japan)
4. A Persona orchestral concert in November
5. An announcement of more announcements for Persona's 25th Anniversary in December :lmao
