Beta male Chris is definitely a Lifeline main.
I just started the game and no one else plays her...her air package has the highest tier loot and for all teammates. It would be dumb not to be a Lifeline main...
The checkpoints in Wolfenstein are fucking retarded.
I already rage quit like 2 times. Cleared a whole room of infinite spawning enemies just so I can get shot by a random enemy in the next area and die and get restarted at the start of it all. lol

haven't had much of a chance to game in the last month, dealing with a move and another bar exam, but i've still been getting some minutes in here and there in arkham knight. like i said a few weeks ago, i think the game really holds up, and more or less meets the standards of asylum/city. rocksteady's arkham series is the pinnacle of super hero video-gaming, only really rivaled by spiderman 2 and spiderman 2018.
at least when it comes to licensed super heroes. there is some leaked gameplay footage from the Square Enix avengers game, and tbh it looks like trash (https://imgur.com/gallery/PMpwEOL)

The Recruiting mechanics, Political nature of the story, the Castle building and army building mechanics. Suikoden was so unique back in the days because of those particular reasons.
Now nothing beats the overall lore of suikoden cause all the games one big story, but that's what I am getting from Fire emblem fans who has played suikoden and Suikoden fans playing fire emblem three houses.
Its practically the suikoden game we've always wanted.
Granted the battle system is fire emblem

just finished arkham knight yesterday... completed everything besides riddler trophies. i think the game overall was a blast, and the general gameplay was as good if not better even than arkham city. the combat was the peak of the series tbh, so while it still has the same overall freeflow beat-em-up style, there's enough enemy variety and gadgets which force you to mix things up and prevent it from going stale.
the campaign was pretty fun, side content was strong. i actually really liked the story in this one. while the whole thing with people literally becoming the joker was pretty stupid, the psychological battle within batman was pretty awesome to see unfold. the ending of the game was so eerie, it was excellent.
but my beef with the game:
the boss battles were atrocious. most of the games big moments were fought in the batmobile instead of in person. thats just terrible, terrible game design. compare it to arkham city with the Mr. Freeze fight.
there was too much emphasis on the batmobile, which only became fun after dumping most of my early skill points into batmobile upgrades. you basically had to hold off of any combat/gadget upgrades because while you can get through the game without those, the batmobile missions were an absolute chore without upgrades.
i get why they put the riddler trophies in the game, but i'm not going to go around and solve 200 riddles just so i can have a final confrontation with the riddler. i'm ok with them withholding platinum and 100% completion, but dont hold out story elements unless i go doing all that tedious shit. you're also forced to do that to reach the final "true" conclusion of the game, but i'm not about that.
but criticisms aside, very fun game. definitely recommend to anybody who is a fan of the genre.

Wolfenstein is pretty awesome. Already beat the first and now playing Old Blood.
I like how this game punishes you if you try the Rambo approach. The stealth+gun fight is well placed.
Also doesn't give you health regen by just hiding so you have to plan your attacks in advance.

Do you have the complete edition? The DLC is the best part of the game, but I'd hate to have to do it the first time on a second playthrough, which you'll have to if you beat them game and then decide to go buy the DLC. If you got through Sigrun on the hardest level though Bloodborne should be fine for you.
Also to save you a lot of early pain in Bloodborne: you must get your first point of "insight" before you can do anything in the game. You can either find it via a madman's knowledge by scouring around a couple of areas in the early game or by getting to either the first miniboss or the first boss (you can lose and you still get it). Best to just run from combat and get to that first boss/miniboss since there is no character progression possible until you get 1 insight the first time. Also fighting multiple enemies at once is a death sentence.

felt wrong to just run past enemies... in games like this i feel like i always must kill everyone. but thats not a viable approach here. i was able to get through all the guys up to the bonfire, clear out the next few areas until i got to the big bridge. killed 1 of the 2 wolves then died. lost all progress. at that point i decided to fuck it and just sprint around like you said. i eventually ran into a boss, cleric beast or something like that, so i got the point of insight. that was the last thing i did, though. the cleric monster thing fucked me sideways, i cant imagine being able to take it down without grinding first :lol

I figured Cleric Beast would be no problem for you if you took out that big fuck hiding behind the staircase near the beginning.
It's a pretty brutal intro to the game not knowing you need that point of insight to have any kind of progression whatsoever in your character. I spent my first four hours or so with the game loving the combat and setting but getting pissed every time I would lose my progression with no way to save it. Eventually decided I had to look at a walkthrough to see what the fuck. That needing a first point of insight to do any progression is almost as bad as NES era shit like in Castlevania II where you had to buy a crystal, equip it, and then take a knee under a cliff to get sucked up by a tornado and transported to a dungeon with absolutely nothing in the game telling you to do that or that crystals could be used for anything like that. You might also have to cheat to find out how to start the DLC. Make sure to do it before you beat the game, as Bloodborne is the rare game where the DLC is actually the best part.

i dno, maybe i was just intimidated by its size :lol... its hard to believe the same rules of combat would apply (dodging and stagger mechanics) with a dude that big, but i guess i just have to trust it. but man, it was really frustrating to actually gut my way through that whole opening area only to die to the second wolf and losing all progress.
at least now i've opened another gate so when i inevetably die and respawn at central yharnam i can just go through the left gate now and cut through that whole bonfire area. i also feel like the gun mechanic is inconsistent. there are times where i swear i got it off and it straight up whiffs on the enemy. i know im not meant to use it for damage, but only to parry/stagger, but it doesnt feel nearly as consistent as god of war's parry.
there were also some frustrating times when fighting the big axe dude when i clearly got the parry (guy staggered and dropped to a knee) but he still connected on his attack simultaneous to my gun blast that stunned him. so i die at the same time that he gets parried? wtf
btw i picked the blunderbuss instead of the other gun, dno if that was just a poor choice :lol

Blunderbuss is supposed to be the easier of the two guns to time. Which I found out after selecting the other one of course. :lol
You'll get used to the parry timing after dying enough times. It's not like Demons Souls or Dark Souls 1 where you can circle around for easy backstabs, you either get good at parrying in Bloodborne or you just die.

baseline bum i reached father G.
On first encounter i managed to get him into second form and died pretty quick. Second time i fared better and got him to his last 10th percent or so and got caught in a quick flurry and died. The path back to him is quite long even after opening the new gate, so im giving it a rest for now.
Hes not terribly hard. It’s just counter intuitive but seems like you have to roll towards him when he lunges instead of trying to evade or else you get caught up in swipes. And when he knocks you down you usually take a few hits on the ground and that’s really what does you in.
The stupid grind to work my way back to him through the sewers and the pig is more of a deterrent than the boss itself. This is the old school game design that i never liked. Artificially racking on playtime and calling that “difficulty.” It tests patience and endurance more than skill.
But the game is definitely addicting

Oh it's very much Arthur's game. Seriously one of my favorite protagonists. He goes through alot of transformation as the Van der Linde gang struggles to adapt to the dying American frontier. As spurraider said, the story and character building is just amazing for a video game. It's also a massive, almost overwhelming experience. I'm (slowly) playing it a second time just to complete all the challenges, camp upgrades, etc. and I'm still encountering new random events and interactions between camp members. The actors said they did a solid five years of motion capture and voice work if that gives you any indication how big the game is. Take your time.

Red Harlow was the playable character in Red Dead Revolver and had a completely different storyline... I'm not sure I even consider it a part of the same series. Marston is a big character in RDR2. But just as the first Red Dead Redemption was his redemption story, RDR2 is Morgan's.

i got past the blood hungry beast. that douchebag on the gatling gun was making life miserable. the biggest stress point in this game is really the checkpoint system. the biggest moments of relief are when i'm able to open a gate/door/lift that lets me backtrack, because then i know i'm good to go bank my blood echoes and level up without having to go through the whole level all over again.
i havent put any points into bloodtinge or arcane yet. basically just vitality/strength/endurance. not exactly sure what the difference between strength and skill are, they seem to do the same things, but i imagine for a heavier weapon like the axe strength has to mean something?
also i have no clue what insight does

i was at a point in the game where i was terrified of every character on the screen. so i tried to sneak up on her for a charged attack into visceral. didnt know there was any other way to deal with characters tbh :lol
it didnt do shit, and she proceeded to destroy me. when i tried to go back she was always hostile after that. i tried to read up on wtf was happening (she was way overpowered for the area), and turns out i was supposed to talk to her, now i fucked up for good. lack of save states in a game like this just seem really stupid.
fallout games have similar scenarios when you mistakenly attack an NPC... but if you dont kill them, you can at least come by at a later time/day and they've cooled down. or as long as you are creating some hard saves, you can go back and undo it if you accidentally killed them. i had a similar setup in RDR2 when i held my gun at somebody and ruined a stranger mission, but i was able to go back to a recent save.
i love bloodborne, but not a fan of making that game's difficulty based on something like that. the blood echo system has grown on me, though. going into the next room/area always feels like such a risk. i'm always asking myself if im carrying too many echoes, or if its worth backtracking to "bank" those points and level up. it creates a good amount of tension. im always begging for there to be another lantern or gate/door

Save states would take away a ton of the difficulty IMO. I kind of like that you're made to live with your decisions in the game. She was so fucking hard to kill at a low level. Your parry with the pistol had to be perfect against her; if you mistime even once at a low level you're fucking dead. I don't know how I managed to kill her before getting to Gascoigne.
I had another one of those encounters later in the game where I did something I didn't know I wasn't supposed to and turned this really powerful guy hostile, and the only way I could kill him was pushing him off the side of a building. :lol

eh, i think the difficulty should be in the combat, not obscure decision making that you have to make blindly with no information which end up sabotaging the rest of your game, potentially. its one thing if it's a dialogue/action choice you make like in a fallout title, but not something like mistaking an NPC for just another enemy

So what are the chances I finish P5 before mid sept baseline bum?
I started then stopped it back when it released here. Not even 4 hours into it so I might actually delete the save and start anew.
I'm giving myself mid september because that's when work season heats up for me so I dont expect to have time for Netflix let along gaming during that stretch going into the holiday season.

Not sure I'd delete the save though and start over. Every Persona since the PS2 era has had a really slow 2-3 hour intro that is a chore to get through. After that the game gets amazing though.

im pretty sure its a game i'll eventually pick up tbh, dont worry. probably not anytime soon. im still pretty early into bloodborne. still have to play witcher 3, skyrim, the bioshock collection, fallout 4, dying light, metal gear solid V, just cause 3
i dont think im in any rush :lol... also want to eventually get my hands on the dark souls collection
knowing From Software they will likely release a sekiro expansion, and there will eventually be a complete edition. i'll wait at least for that, and when its on sale. i picked up complete editions of witcher and bloodborne for like $15 apiece or so. dont see why i'd drop 30+ on sekiro before DLC

Holy shit. That's easily 300+ hours between those games not counting the DLCs.
I think you'll have forgotten all about Sekiro by the time you're done with those other games. Not to mention the heavy hitters coming up by the end of the year and into next such as Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, Final Fantasy 7, etc.

yeah, i basically missed out on the current gen of games for a few years because i refused to buy games (let alone a new console) during my time in law school. before buying my ps4 this past november, the last time i had bought a game was GTA V on the ps3 back in 2013
so yeah i have a ton of catch up to do. in addition to all those, still want to get through uncharted 4, the tomb raider trilogy, shadow of colossus (never even played the original), nier automata, AC odyssey, hellblade. possibly infamous second son if i get it dirt cheap (my understanding is its not as good as 1 or 2)
but now that i've moved across the country away from fam/friends, am currently working from home, and wifey just started med school, i have a ton of free time to game :lol

The PS2 Persona games are excellent too. Though the best version of P4 is the one on the Vita. God the soundtrack in Persona 5 is first rate.
I can't wait for Persona 5 The Royal next year (my 日本語 isn't nearly good enough to play the original release on Halloween). What's cool is P5R looks like it's going to take an alternate path from one of the critical parts of Persona 5's main story, so both versions will be worth playing. Unlike say Persona 4 Golden where it's just an extra month but pretty much the same story and one extra character vs the original Persona 4.

Also Persona 5 is probably 60% life sim vs 40% dungeon crawling doing just the main story, though if you're a completionist you can flip it to say 40% life sim vs 60% dungeon crawling.

Oh I forgot one cool piece of Persona 5 trivia. The kanji 囚 roughly means captured and one of its readings is しゅう = shuu (eg with a long u) and then 人 is person and one of its readings is じん = jin. So when you put them together you get 囚人=しゅうじん = shuujin = prisoner. So that's why your highschool is called Shujin Academy in the game lol, it's Prisoner High. There is all kinds of little funny shit in the Persona games you pick up if you know some Japanese.

yakuza series is something i'll eventually dig into, just have too much of a backlog to worry about it now
btw, bloodborne is a much bigger game than i thought it would be. chalice dungeons, though basically arenas, offer a lot of content with some new bosses (some rehashes though). i've done the regular, central, and lower pthumeru chalices. starting the hintertomb set now. theres almost no blood vial drops in these, so i end up having to make central yharnam runs to farm them.
as far as the main game... it hasn't been TOO difficult to know what to do next. but tbh there have been a couple of moments i looked things up. i dont have all day to wander around and figure out what the next step was going to be. didnt realize i had to actually buy the key/emblem to open the gate to get to amelia, for example, and i kept running around making sure i didnt miss an item or enemy holding a key. and admittedly had to look up how to get to cainhurst castle. i was pretty proud of myself for figuring out that i was supposed to let that amygdala thing snag me when holding the tonsil stone, to get to the nightmare frontier area.
i also found myself lost in the forbidden woods, and getting stressed out cause i couldn't even find my way back to save my progress :lol... that took me a lot of wandering to find my way out of.
of course there's still the DLC as well, though i've read im supposed to do that before completing the main game, as there is no free roam period to go back and do shit. i just dont know where the point of no return would be. i'm already at red moon phase

1-2 are already remastered on PS4 (Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2). There is also a bundle of Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 on PSN right now for $50. They also have Yakuza 0 on sale for $12 alone. Kiwami 1 sells for $20 and Kiwami 2 is usually a $30 to $40 game now, so 0-2 for $50 is a deal IMO.
And you need to play the games in numerical order for the stories to make sense. They all build off one another.

C'mon man, you beat Sigrun on the hardest difficulty.
i eventually got through, but that fucker beat the shit out of me with his giant shrimp thing a good 6-7 times. yeah, sigrun took way more attempts, at least 4 times as many, but that's not necessarily how i would define difficulty. you heal a lot more in bloodborne than you do in god of war (next to nothing), so the fights tend to take longer. god of war was also 1-2 hits and you were dead. against kos it would be 3-4 hits to kill me, with most deaths being due to not finding a good time to use a blood vial.
sigrun felt more like attrition because she did telegraph attacks a bit more imo, and it was just a matter of flawless dodging/parrying for 15 minutes since she was so goddam tanky. but kos seems so fucking frenetic that its just a lot of chaos until one of you drops.
but kos was easily the most difficult thing i've faced in the game yet. going to get through some more chalice dungeons next. i'm at a point where the hunters dream is on fire so by my understanding im at or near endgame

You must be fucking amazing at these kind of games if he only killed you 6-7 times. It took me around 50 attempts to kill that fucker. You're not likely to find anything anywhere close to the difficulty of that fight in the rest of the game. I did a lot of exploration in the chalice dungeons and there were some hard bosses but nothing like Orphan of Kos. Despite Sigrun on Give Me a Challenge taking me more attempts, I thought Kos was a tougher boss with a much harder moveset to anticipate. With Sigrun I had a pretty simple strategy and it was just executing it without accidentally going into Rage Mode when I didn't want to thanks to the annoying control scheme.

i also feel the ability to constantly heal up with up to 20 blood vials really lowers the difficulty. imo there should be a lower cap for how many you can carry. because the combat itself is more difficult than GOW. requires much more precise timing. but as long as you can find that spot in their pattern where they dont attack for a couple of seconds, you can pop 2-3 blood vials and completely refill your health
i think i died more times to the cainhurst castle boss than kos, but still found kos way harder. difficult to really explain, but thats how it is.
i havent done any Depth 4 chalice dungeons yet, so im expecting another difficulty spike. i have the ailing loran one, and then the defiled chalice
Nevermind Control. I just bought Man of Medan instead. :lol
From the makers of Until Dawn. I enjoyed that game and I really like multi choice/multi ending games so I went with this one.

red dead starts off slow in the first chapter but the game is a hell of a journey. The protagonist and main story are so well written, it’s mind boggling that’s it’s a video game and not a book or some shit

I disagree completely. There are a few missable missions and conversations later in the game if you are low honor... some that should've been part of the main storyline (imo) that help flesh out Arthur's redemption arc. Or you could do what I did (completely unplanned, it happened pretty naturally)... played as a complete asshole but finished the game with max honor because some things that happen in the later chapters really change your perspective.

You should check Dark Souls 1 when it's on sale then. It's quite a bit easier than Bloodborne IMO since you can use shields and is a slower paced game, but it still holds up today. At least if you get the current gen remaster. Dark Souls III is supposed to play a lot more like Bloodborne, but I haven't played much of it so can't really comment.

i finished the nathan drake collection, which was remasters of UC 1-3. i thought they were decent games but tbh didnt think they were all timers or anything like that. but good fun, short linear games.
i think 4 is substantially better than the others because the combat is a lot more refined. i mean the melee is still a mess but whatever.
even when im stealthing, im still trying to work my way around the camp and take everybody out before advancing. i hate leaving people alive :lol... feel like the story wouldn't make sense if i left a group of 5-10 people behind me who could theoretically walk towards me and ambush from behind :lol

Red Dead Redemption 2, surely have one of the best storytelling as I play it in my console. It's a beautiful, sprawling, lush, detailed world – packed with things to do and people to see. It has so much content that, at certain point in the game, I realize that I will never experience all that the game has to offer – it indeed an open world game.

I'm saving Sekiro for when I get a new gpu and can play the game at 60 fps. Not sure what I want to buy until I get an idea of what Cyberpunk 2077 will need to run well as well as what kind of horsepower the PS5 and ShitBox 2 will have with what gpu prices are and with how badly 2012-13 gpus aged in this current gen (while 2014 and beyond have aged really well). Though if say RX 570 gets a fire sale price for Black Friday I might buy one just to play Sekiro and DMC5 this year, as there isn't much interesting coming out in the rest of 2019 (Death Stranding doesn't look very good IMO).

Im on a 1 week trial of PS Now... tbh the service seems pretty legit. I've been using the opportunity to play Infamous Second Son.
i'm still fairly early on, but it doesn't live up to the first 2. while your character moves fast, the traversal just feels clunky so far (though historically in Infamous games, you get traversal upgrades as the game goes on). The climbing/parkour is so terrible and jittery. Even dropping off a ledge is frustrating, as the circle button makes you do that smoke launch thing.
The ranged combat is ok, i'm looking forward to more upgrades. The melee is terrible. InFamous 1 had virtually no melee system to speak of, but 2 gave you the Amp with finishers, and it felt really smooth, despite the wonky camera. This one has a chain which lacks that same impactful feeling and the camera is still terrible, if not worse.
Otherwise, similar formula so far. Collect shards to upgrade things, repetitive "side missions" to eliminate hostile presence from territories. The biggest flaw in infamous games was the repetitive side content. That's an area I was hoping for improvement in
I also just miss Cole's character.
Im on a 1 week trial of PS Now... tbh the service seems pretty legit.
Everyone is. They're pushing that on everyone.
I used to subscribe to Now when they were at a pricy $100 a year. IIRC I didn't play it much since all they had were mostly indie games and PS3 games. I'll probably take a closer look at it since not only did they slashed their prices to 50 bucks, but also have since added full PS4 retail games.
The first game I see when opening the app is GOW. That's a hell of an attention grabber.

RDR2 PC edition comes out Nov. 5 if that's what you were waiting on to play it. You know good and god damn well that it is going to look and play so much better than it does on the Poorstation, and it already is freakin beautiful.

Eh... the initial load takes a while, but once you're in-game there is no loading for anything. Everything is pretty seamless.

Assuming you're a fan since the first one.. how does it stack up against it? They toned down the gore severely with the second one and it took all the satisfaction away from targeting limbs and heads IMO

i have the game on PS4 and have had it since it came out. its not the worst thing in the world, but honestly since i bought my gaming laptop 2 years ago and upgraded to the PC last year i dont console game much. its night and day. instant loading vs having to wait at all is kind of a pain in the ass for me now :lol

anyone played Breakpoint yet? I hear it's been getting shit reviews, where it's basically the worst aspects of Wildlands + The Division combined. which sounds terrible. i liked Wildlands a lot but it did get repetitive, and The Division 2 was ok but i hated the weapon/gear system in that game. so if they incorporated the shit i dont like about the division into wildlands and made a new game of it, i am really hesitant to check it out.
also, i know no one here plays Destiny 2 but anyone checked out the new expansion yet? Destiny 2 is now free to play on steam also, and it's honestly not a terrible game tbh. For free its definitely worth it.
i'm still playing Gears 5, which has been actually a pretty fun campaign minus the forced "open world" areas. i'll probably finish Control after this. i actually got selected to test Halo Reach on Xbone (disappointed i didnt get picked for PC but whatevs) so ima be checking that out this weekend

I didn't enjoy 2... just was sorta burned out after 1... this one is really good. Weapons feel good, gore is there, you can shotgun the legs and they break in a pool of blood.
I just forgot how long this game can be, especially if you do all the side missions. The vehicle control can take a second to get used to, and things like texture popping, well, it's Unreal, and they didn't really even try to address. But minor nitpicks, tbh.

Not sure what you're referring to, but Bloodlines 2 is coming out 2020. I haven't been following the development, so I don't know how it really looks. But I fucking loved the first Bloodlines, even though it was released unfinished and broken and required the mod community to make it playable.

you only use 1 persona? how are you even surviving? Are you playing in easy or normal?
Ill switch that to hard if i were you. The combat system is suppose to be strategic. Picking the personas you travel with is suppose to be strategic.

Most of the time, yes. I have plenty of others but they dont feel quite like my main one which I have just the right amount of magic and heavy attacks for.
I'm playing on Normal. It'd be crazy for me to play on hard given that this is the first time ever playing a Persona game. I always have Yusuke with me, he's fairly overpowered so he's key for me.
I've only died a handful of times. This game is very forgiving when it comes to placing Safe Rooms all over the place. Thankfully when I've died it's been closer to them rather than far in.

Persona is pretty much a casual series. If you want to play a hard version the series it spun off from, Shin Megami Tensei, is the way to go.

P5 is pretty easy for a turn-based RPG. Basically just identifying the enemy's weakness and spamming that particular attack. The boss fights aren't any different except they are damage sponges and occasionally transform (and change resistances).

I am hooked on Sekiro tbh.. Such a good game.
I believe I'm about to just beat P5. I saved right after I have to say goodbye to all my friends and shit.
I have to say I am dissapointed with this game. Great game from beginning to Shido's Palace. Things went downhill after that. The Mementos palace or whatever that was broke the immersion of the story for me and I just didn't enjoy it in the least. The entire fucking thing is a puzzle after the next and to top it off, the last room has 3 puzzles to solve.
So after about 2 hours I broke and just had to look it up online and even then I had problems following it so I had to find some youtube about it. That made me mad as hell. What a shit way to end a game. It made things worse since you had to kill time (About 18 days for me) to wait for Shido's change of heart so that was a massive lull.

In terms of puzzles, these just suck. It's like the game makers ran out of ideas and threw these in last minute just to fuck with your progress.
The ones in prior palaces were a lot more elaborate and cumbersome and I was able to actually do them just fine. (Futaba's and Shido's Palaces) The last puzzles were more annoying than smart.

i dont remeber any of puzzles to be difficult. Specifically what puzzle are you talking about?
Are you tired of the redundancy in dialog?
Game went from 10 to 9 for me because overrtime I just got tired of the stupidity of the dialog and annoying characters.

Futaba's palace with all the backtracking and the light thing. You had to go from one end of the map to the next just to deativate a switch. And the rat puzzle in palace 5. Now most people didn't seem to like the airlock puzzles but I kind of liked those. Probably because of the free airtime from airlock to airlock. :lol
The dialog didn't bother me as much. It does get repeatitive and a lot of the confidants are plain boring and I didn't waste time with them. Yusuke is a great teammate for instance but his dialoguing is very boring so I didn't spent much time with him and the result of that was my social stat with him was like 4 or 5 in the rankings. Mishima was worthless and that reporter chick and fortune teller...so many boring characters.

I’ve lost patience with those open world action/adventure games tbh, they are too time consuming for me and I can’t always remember all the controls and button combinations for each game tbh

It's actually a pretty lengthy plat to get. Took me until my third playthrough. The twins are pretty difficult to beat too (you can only fight them on a second playthrough or later).

Do you have to first maxed their social link? I didn't get too far with them because in order for you to rank up with them you have to collect certain personas and I rarely ever came accross those.

You have to get every Persona in the game in your compendium to fight them I think. It costs a lot to fuse everything, but your compendium carries over between playthroughs. Also you'll have to fuse a succession of very high level personas to get the two you need with the skills and resistances you need to have a chance against them. So even if you don't need to fuse everything to fight them, you'll still need to fuse a ton of high level personas or they'll make quick work of you.
