Yeah, most games were designed to play on normal. Switching it to hard usually only increases the enemy damage resistance and decreases yours.
Modern games hard mode tend to be easier than nier though. I am used to starting with hard. The biggest issue with nier at least from my initial experience..You cant save in the first hour or location.
I love nier though. I just started and the fun factor with this game is off the charts.

Dude, evade! Nier has a pattern of attack. You're probably bull rushing everything.
Platinum games loves using this method of attack, wait, evade. Metal Gear Rising does this, Bayonneta does this and Nier does this.

NieR Automata will get a lot harder on hard mode. Mainly because your power ups are plugin chips that stay with your body when you die, so you have to go pick them up before getting killed again like on Dark Souls.

Are the save points this bad? I am in the bunker now and made a couple attempts at the new mission and failed.
If the save point is as bad as the start, ima have to switch this to normal.

The save points are a bit weird. You can always save at the vending machine looking things. There are many parts of the overworld you can save at too. It's nothing like the beginning where you can't save for the first 30 minutes of the game.

Yeah.
Honestly i couldnt enjoy the game play very early in the game because hard is as good as a one hit KO. I wanted ti hack and slash.
Now at level 19, i can use my swords much more often but its all thanks to pod skills. Its hard man because the enemies can be so random sometimes.

tbh Persona 5 has been hard as hell to get into. I'm at a point now where combat is more frequent and fun, but the first 5 - 10 hours were kind of a chore to get through. The gameplay in the "real world" so far has been very limiting - walk two steps and get forced into a long conversation that's basically clicking through a bunch of text with no audio. That might not be such a bad thing considering the American voice acting is pretty poor. I'm thinking the game opens up a bit eventually and gives you more freedom? I like the concept/storyline so far, but I feel like the style is getting in the way of the substance. The combat itself is really fun. I've not played a good turn-based game in years.

Yeah the beginning is really slow. There are a couple of other sections of the game like that too, though much shorter than that first tutorial. I like the American voice acting though. If you don't the Japanese voices are a free download off PSN.

It isn't so much the dialogue itself (though the PS2 style switching between voice acting and text dialogue is kinda annoying), I enjoy long, talky, storyline-driven games. It's just that the first 10 or so hours of P5 has been a passive experience. In fact I've had a hard time finding places to stop playing for the day because it just throws you from cutscene to cutscene, dialogue to dialogue, with the only input from me being clicks through dialogue.
But it looks like I'm finally through most of the intro. It says I'm free to start planning my assault on the palace.

Just remember to spend your time well leveling up confidants, as it makes a huge difference in how the combat plays out in the dungeons. Sojiro is really useful to level up as early as possible since that lets you brew coffee and make curry to replenish SP (what Persona games call mana). I imagine you have met the doctor if you're ten hours in, and she is really useful to level up some too. As is anyone in your combat party.

There are three different versions of Emil's shop that take different tracks around the city. The easiest one to get to is the one that goes by the desert and sells mostly crap. The hardest one to get is the track by the resistance camp where he sells a couple of weapons you need for one of the best endings of the game. Getting that spawn of the shop is a real bitch. Also Emil has a great story if you play the first Nier on PS3/360. He's one of my favorite characters ever in gaming.

Also takes up lots of time.

Then your choices are either to get really good at it or drop the difficulty to normal. You can't possibly think you're going to get very far in the game without hacking, can you? It's the main attack for 9S and there is one class of enemy that takes about 45 minutes of constant physical and pod attacks to kill just on normal difficulty if you don't hack them.

No fucking way.. It deserves every praise it gets. They spent an incredible amount of time adding detail to this game, and went against the norm of open world "go here and fetch ___ and bring it back" crap filler side quests by adding actual story (that's surprisingly funny and engaging) to them. Great graphics, great game world, great combat systems with the oils etc to beat OP beasts.. Overall this is almost the perfect game for me, even dethroning the mighty Skyrim which I didn't believe you at first would be possible. I'd give it a 9/10

9/10 would be underrating the game IMO. I have it at 9.5/10. I'd put it in my top 20 games all time. For me it's #3 for 2015 though, with Bloodborne #1 and Dying Light #2. Both of those games have insane replayability. I played a NG+ on Bloodborne and have played through Dying Light three times. I loved Witcher 3 when I was playing it, but I haven't ever wanted to go back to it for a NG+. I did think it was awesome enough to squeak ahead of the amazing GTA V though (I know GTA V came out on 360/PS3 in 2013, but I consider it a 2015 game since that's when it came to PC).

Top 3 all time is where I'd place it.. It's that good for me. I like open world, gore, breathtaking vistas, etc.. I also like feeling the want to follow the story, whereas in a ton of games I find myself not even knowing what the fuck is going on halfway through. Plus, this is the RARE game that actually made me laugh a few times. Besides GTA V, that doesn't happen much.
And yeah, me not finishing DL takes nothing away from what I think about it.. I recently started it again to get caught up with story again, just fell off the wagon again.

But assuming you got a good price on that, yeah it's definitely better than decent. Use the HDMI out and run it on your TV, you should be playing most games at or near 60 FPS without compromising much more than a couple settings that hardly make a noticeable difference.

After I finish the game I will get the DLC, looking great so far I went to that Unseen Place too early, and went to fight the electrical giant thing which is like the 9th boss when my last boss was the Blood Starving Beast, it took me a while but now I killed Vica and is easier, but those creeps that can kill you with 2 hits in that Unseen Place are bad people.
You can't do the DLC right after finishing the game. You'll have to progress some hours in a NG+ or on a new game to be able to play the DLC. I would not want my first experience with the DLC to be in NG+, it's a lot harder than the base game IMO.

Yeah Total War is the king of RTS but I prefer the original Rome and Medieval II with mods (Europa Barbarorum;LotR :tu). Replayability is second to none, and the campaigns can take months to complete.

Because of the leveling?
You have to have advanced somewhat through the story to be able to start the DLC, and when you beat the base game it automatically changes your save into a NG+ and starts you back at the beginning in Central Yharnam. I wouldn't want my first experience with the DLC to be in NG+ since the DLC both throws a lot of enemies at you and also has bosses without the kind of easily exploitable fatal flaws you see in most of the bosses in the base game.

Far Cry 5 actually has some decent system requirements:
MINIMUM CONFIGURATION:
OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.1 GHz or AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5 GHz or equivalent
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 or AMD R9 270 (2GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
SYSTEM RAM: 8GB
Resolution: 720p
Video Preset: Low
RECOMMENDED CONFIGURATION (60 FPS):
OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i7-4770 @ 3.4 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.2 GHz or equivalent
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD R9 290X (4GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
SYSTEM RAM: 8GB
Resolution: 1080p
Video Preset: High
4K 30 FPS CONFIGURATION:
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit version only)
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i7-6700 @ 3.4 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X @ 3.6 GHz or equivalent
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD RX Vega 56 (8GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
SYSTEM RAM: 16GB
Resolution: 2160p
Video Preset: High
4K 60 FPS CONFIGURATION:
OS: Windows 10 (64-bit version only)
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.0 GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 1700X @ 3.4 GHz or equivalent
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SLI or AMD RX Vega 56 CFX (8GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
SYSTEM RAM: 16GB
Resolution: 2160p
Video Preset: High/Ultra
That 1080p high 60 fps requirement is basically the PC I have except I have 16GB of overclocked DDR3 instead of the 8GB they recommend. Not too bad for a 3 1/2 year old system. I might have to buy this one instead of pirate if it has good enough optimization to run well on that level hardware.

I wasn't that interested when I saw Monster Hunter World at E3, but I gotta admit it looks intriguing now. Have you played any of the other games in the series? I have three or four Monster Hunter games on my CFW 3DS so I should check those first, but I'm kind of into Bravely Default right now on that system.

Yes, I have both. Original Sin II is better in every way, but it's much harder to pick up if you're coming from the 1st one.. They added a new armor mechanic and it really adds to the difficulty level of an already hard game. I'm not big on turn based RPG's, but the combat here is pretty entertaining.

Picked up Battlefield 1. What a POS game. I remember why i hated whatever one of the first one was on PS3. Some of the maps are so big, i spawn in an open area. I got killed three straight spawns before i could get behind some cover. So big there seems to ALWAYS be a sniper eyed in on me. How in the fuck is it 15 years later and i'm still waiting for a game like Socom 2? I'd fucking rather play plants vs zombies than this BS. At this point, i don't even care if its remastered or not. Give me some Super Mario 64 style graphics and we'll pack that server every night. What a joke, no wonder why Nintendo has always made the great games. Can you imagine if after 4 hit Mario games they never made another one again?

Anyways, sold it today and driving in a couple of hours to our local gamestore to get Monster hunter. I was gonna get persona 5 but its crazy how its still sold at full price.
I figure by the time im done with monster hunter world, persona would be 20% off at least. Still 20 Canadian dollars to play all three games and I get to keep one too. I sold nier at a profit since i got it during canadian boxing week 30 dollars off. :lol

That's the one game that makes me want a PS4 Pro to play it at 60 fps. I'm kind of tempted since Gamestop will give me $180 for my PS4 Slim that I paid $220 for back in December 2016.
Sucks that Persona 5 is so expensive in Canada. It's on sale for $30 all the time in the US. Best Buy, Gamestop, Amazon, Target, and the PSN Store run it all the time for $30. I paid $60 for it and think it's easily worth full price though. I think it's the only game I ever paid $60 for on PS4.

Meh fuck Metacritic. Game critics love to overrate indie games that are decent to good and pretend they're on par with Skyrim. If I want to play Super Nintendo style games I have an SNES Classic and a Raspberry Pi with Retropie on it to play the real thing.
2018 looks really solid for PS4 but I can't imagine they're going to top NieR Automata, Persona 5, and Horizon Zero Dawn for console exclusives this year. Days Gone and God of War look like they'll be really good, but that's asking a lot for them to be as strong as those three 2017 classics. We don't know anything about Ghost of Tsushima yet and I'm not very hyped on Spiderman from what I have seen.
For Switch 2018 looks like a big question mark. I mean it doesn't look like a guaranteed shit year like XBox has coming up since there seem to be some really interesting things in the pipeline. If Project Octopath Traveler comes out this year it'll probably be a must buy for any RPG fan with a Switch considering how awesome Bravely Default is. And you gotta think the rumored Fire Emblem should be pretty solid too. But I don't know if either will be a 2018 game. I can't imagine Shin Megami Tensei V, Metroid Prime 4, or Bayonetta 3 will be out this year since we have seen nothing about them yet other than quick minute long trailers. That Nintendo Direct we saw a couple of weeks ago was supremely disappointing since it was mostly Wii U games coming to the Switch. I wonder if we'll be waiting until E3 to find out if anything worthwhile is coming out on Switch this year.

You're probably going to have to turn down a lot of settings, probably to medium. You need a 1080 and a 7600k minimum to stay above 60 fps at 1080p ultra according to the Gamegpu.ru benchmark.
http://gamegpu.com/action-/-fps-/-tps/assassin-s-creed-origins-test-gpu-cpu
I guess 2018 is the year I put playing at high settings on my 970 to rest. From those benchmarks it looks like I'll be needing to play at medium if I want a mostly locked 60 fps, since the 970 is nowhere close to 60 fps at ultra.
Man this game really doesn't seem to like i5. The i7-2600k outperforms the i5-2500k by 28% in their benchmark.

I'd take 1080p 60 over 4k 30 any time. 1080p is already a high enough resolution to look really good but 60 fps vs 30 fps can be a night and day difference. Though 30 fps still works decently on console since the games are usually optimized to make it look good and since you're usually going to be a few feet back from the TV. Still, 60 fps looks much better IMO.

So as expected Origins is stupid demanding, even minus the DRM's..
Using the included benchmark tool, I am able to get an average of 61 FPS though..
I turned down:
Environment details - very high
Fog - medium
Tesselation - medium
Ambient Occlusion - high
AA - medium
I love the way they implemented the graphics settings menu to include an example of each setting and what you have to gain/lose visually by adjusting.. makes it so much quicker to decide which effects matter most. Considering my CPU is as old as it is, I am satisfied with the performance.. The G-Sync covers me to about 55 FPS, so a good portion of dips in demanding areas don't really bother me at all

It's fun. Easy to get lost when you are being hunted. The controls take some getting used to if you have played a lot of fps on the PS4. L1 to run is weird - should be L1 for camera and R3 for sprint. My current objective is to get to the sewers but this big guy is quicker than a cat and killed me 3 times so far.

You can't do the DLC right after finishing the game. You'll have to progress some hours in a NG+ or on a new game to be able to play the DLC. I would not want my first experience with the DLC to be in NG+, it's a lot harder than the base game IMO.
Yesterday I beat Orphan of Kos in NG level 113, took me like 20 tries because I´ve spent time learning his moves, also I used some special stone in my saw cleaver that had a -51 weapon durability but gave me a huge boost in attack, every time the saw was dying I had to use the Kirkhammer.
I dont know about the difficulty, the only part where I felt it was too much was when I had to fight that Giant Shark before the Lighthouse Hut, now I ate the 3 cords and I dont know if talk to Gehrman or explore a little more but I think there is not much else to do.

Damn Orphan of Kos took me about 50 tries in the regular game. I can't remember the level I was at. I think I was using Ludwig's Holy Blade. God I gotta play a NG+ of Bloodborne, but I'm still catching up on all the great 2017 games and then just bought Shadow of the Colossus this morning when it officially went on sale at the PSN Store.

I'll get back on my thoughts of the actual game itself soon.. Just judging from the surface it seems like Ubisoft got their heads out of their ass and didn't mail this one in..
I loved II, and Brotherhood. I own Revelations but never played too far, same for Black Flag.. We'll see. I'm currently playing through RE7 so we'll see if this one pries me away from it.
Revelations is a big step down from AC2 and Brotherhood. You can't hire hookers to distract the guards anymore, now it's stinky gypsies doing magic acts and crap. It's like they were scared of pissing off Muslims by putting hookers in their game in Constantinople like they did in the two games in Italy.

I fought him until he was 30% and then I used the paper bolt, at the end he goes apeshit and starts jumping everywhere most times you lose the locked view but I managed to stay always on his back, when he died I sang HE IS ADOPTED NOBODY LIKES HIM!LALALALA!
Never played SOC because when it was on PS2 it looked a little low on frames, but Im pretty sure now in the remastered version (PS3/PS4) works great, a friend of mine was a huge fan which remembers me I must get The Last Guardian, looks like an unique game, the last unique game I have played was ¨Inside¨, very Out of This World.

I hire hookers (Valentina) off Craigslist so I'm ok without them in my games.. That being said, should I re-install it and play if from a setting and time period POV? I love the Roman Empire related shit, and always thought Constantinople is intriguing as hell considering it was Rome's final stand and it's been built over so many times throughout history.. I can tell you if this latest game wasn't set in Egypt I wouldn't even have played it..

I installed it earlier, but I think Corepacks stripped out the benchmark. I'm not quite ready to start a new game yet (I still have a couple of hours left in my current game, Persona 4 Golden), so I haven't checked how it runs yet for me. I'll probably try it on the high preset since that's about where I can typically get 60 fps in AAA games now on a 970. Is it hard to get it to lock to 60 fps on your 1060?

It takes a little tweaking, but you should be able to get it locked at 60 FPS for 95% of the time..
What I've noticed is the AA any higher than on low is super taxing. Medium shadows look good, but they're distance is limited so you'll get a good boost there.. Ambient Occlusion looks really good on high (high is lower of the settings)..
Clutter, and environment details a notch down gives you about another 7 fps back.. All of this and the game still looks incredible.. I've had to stop several times to take in the beauty of this game, it's ridiculously detailed. The hieroglyphs and little touches during the temple exploration is the shit.
The RPG element really adds a lot too

If you didn't like Odin Sphere, Dragon's Crown is done by the same studio. If you liked Persona 5, Catherine is done in the same art style. The puzzles in it are pretty hard if you play at normal or higher.
Nier really sucks the first couple of hours because you're doing fetch quests, which is likely why it was so badly reviewed. But it really picks up into one of the alltime great storylines for a game, and if you played NieR Automata on PS4 or PC the first Nier explains a lot. Before you play the first Nier watch the last chapter of Drakengard 1 on youtube. I wouldn't bother playing Drakengard 1 though. It has its moments but has a really antiquated control system. All you need to see is the events leading up to an including Ending E of Drakengard, which sets the table for Nier (and NieR Automata).

The Marie and Nanako Valentines Day scenes are fucking hilarious. Marie is from the Velvet Room and Izanami-no-Okami is a manifestation of her that you have to kill off to free her. It's hilarious because Rise gets super jealous of Marie throughout the game. Marie knows nothing about the human world at first so you have to show her around. When Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko ask her what school she's from she complains she is always stuck in one room and the nose never says anything. It's funny taking her out to Souzai Daigaku and seeing her reaction to the steak skewers and the reactions from Chie and Yukio when she keeps calling them green and red are pretty funny. Ok those Valentine's Day videos were hilarious. Watching them made me regret the vanilla version instead of Golden.
"If you don't hurry, it'll melt. If it melts, it'll run away" lmao that was good. And the way he feels obligated to drink Nanako's toxic chocolate despite his "battle senses" telling him not to was freaking hilarious. "You can hear Nanako's voice from far away" haha.
It's funny because you mentioned Chie sounding like an old woman in Persona 4 which I couldn't remember her sounding like that but I remembered when watching these videos that I had played with the Japanese voices instead of the dub which I always do if given the option and especially if the game is made in Japan.
I'm kind of mad I missed out on Marie though, she's a character that was only in Golden? Damn that sucks. I might have to pick up Golden one of these days and give it another go just for her character. She seems really good.

The best part of Nanako's chocolate is she basically made one of the slime shadows on a plate. :lol
Golden is only on the Vita though. The cheapest way to play it would be to buy a used Playstation TV, which is what I did. Hopefully it gets a PS4 port some day or even better a remake so you can have decent quality 3d models, but there is nothing in the works AFAIK.
Can you play the original PS2 Persona 4 in Japanese voice with English subs, or did you play an undub rom? I might buy it on my PS3 just to play the game with Japanese voices, which isn't an option on Persona 4 Golden. I guess you could buy a Japanese Vita TV (eg what Playstation TV is called in Japan) and then buy off the Japanese store to get Japanese voices in P4G, but then I doubt you'd get the English subs.
Marie is another social link in the game but isn't part of your main party in P4G, though she does have a pretty cool dungeon. In Persona Q on 3DS I think Marie plays the Teddy/Rise navigator role, though I haven't played it since it's based on both P3 and P4G and I have just started P3. She is a pretty funny character in P4G.
I gotta say the Persona 4 Golden The Animation sucks, don't even bother with it. The story is so stripped down to try to fit into twelve episodes and the series is nowhere near as good as the original 28 episode Persona 4 The Animation. I mean shit like never seeing Kanji's bathhouse show on the Midnight Channel or Marukyu Striptease. Instead Kanji and Rise just show up out of nowhere as your close friends in the P4G Animation instead of having to rescue them from the TV like in the P4/P4G games. Too bad the newer version is the only one on Crunchroll right now.
If you liked Persona 4 you will fucking love Persona 5. The dungeons are far better in 5, as they're not randomly generated. And P5 has such cool little touches on top of an amazing game. For instance, the load screens are incredible and don't break the immersion the way they do in other games. The menu is done in a really cool art style. The social links don't just give fusion bonuses, almost all of them add passive bonuses or shop bonuses, so leveling social links isn't just for story any more in P5. And as great as the P4 soundtrack is, the P5 soundtracks stomps all over it. The only original soundtrack I have heard lately that I liked more was NieR Automata's.
P5 can be played with Japanese voices, at least the PS4 digital version can (it's a free download). I'd be surprised if it's any different on PS3, though I have had to pay for Japanese voices before (eg in Drakengard 3, and then they're not even in the fucking $30 sisters prologue DLC!).

One thing I think is really weird in the English dub is they pronounce Chie's name as Chi-ey (ey like in they). My grandmother's name is Chie and I have never heard her name pronounced as anything other than Chi. But when I watched the animations for Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden (which are in Japanese with English subtitles) they pronounce her name Chi. How did they screw up so badly on her name in the American localization?

A long time has passed, and I may now understand a bit more about what a Final Fantasy game entails.. But the last time I played one it was the first mega release on the PS1, it was like 3 discs, and I rented it from Blockbuster.. I didn't understand the style, the lore, the characters, the turn based combat, etc.. Played for like 5 mins and returned it. Those things are cool now, but I don't like slant eyed Japs or their creative vision on games for the most part.
But regardless, props to CPY for his continued missionary work :tu His legendary work cracking AC Origins has been major, I really love this game. It's not one of the BEST games I've played, but definitely one of my favorite. As an artist myself, I'm in awe of the world this team created. Over a week later I'm still finding new details they've taken the time to add, and it's fine by me they borrowed from Witcher 3 so much.

You're crazy man. Japan is still doing lots of great single player shit while western games are largely falling into microtransaction hell. I'm wondering if Origins may be the last decent AC with Ubisoft talking how they want to move towards a games as a service model.

Finished downloading Persona 5, used the DLC unlocker to unlock all DLC (tee-hee) and loaded up my game to see where I left off. I was quite a ways in, about 13 hrs in with a lvl 17 character. :lol Too bad I have the memory of a goldfish and nearly forgot everything. I'm sure it'll come back to me once I get into the groove of things.
Are Playstation TVs worth it? Can you do other things on it besides play Vita games? Can you hack it and do cool shit to it?
From what I remember, the PS2 version of Persona 4 didn't have Japanese audio on it. I think I may had played a rom of it on the PS2 because I had my hard drive connected to my network adapter and you could "jailbreak" into the PS2 with a special Action Replay MAX save file. It was so late into the system's life though and by then, I think the PS3 was already out which was when Persona 4 was released on the PS2. I like jailbreaking my consoles, what can I say. :lol I like doing more on my systems than what they were intended for which pissed me off when Sony took out Linux from the fat PS3 back in the day. I remember using Linux on the PS3 back then and having a blast on it. It sucked trying to watch Flash videos on it because it was horribly optimized but this was before streaming sticks/devices and hooking it up to my $1,000 1080P 32 inch Sharp TV in 2006. My first HD TV. :lol But yeah, my first time using Linux was on the PS3 and now I dualboot my laptops with Linux/Windows.
Wait, Golden doesn't have Japanese audio? WTF, that's weird especially it coming out in 2012 (pretty much standard nowadays when going from Japan -> US) but I'm guessing that has to do with the audio file(s) being huge and the Vita games having limited space capacity.
So skip Persona 4 Golden the Animation, gotcha. I didn't even know there was an anime based on the Golden version of the game. I remember hearing about Persona 4 the Animation but seriously didn't know that Golden had one too. Huh...
Yeah, it was totally the same thing for the PS3 version of the game too, the Japanese voices DLC was free from Atlus so that was cool of them. I remember downloading it when I had bought the game and reading about it being available on PSN store. I didn't even play the English for one second, once I knew the Japanese audio pack was available, I immediately downloaded it. It just sounds stupid when I hear characters calling each other "senpai", or "san" or their Japanese names in freaking English. I like to stick close to the source

Virtually all the paid Persona 5 DLC is just outfits from other Atlus games like Catherine. The rest is a few Persona.
Playstation TVs don't really let you do much aside from play some Vita games since it's just a really stripped down Vita. If you get one on 3.60 firmware you can install Henkaku and Enso to jailbreak the system (same with the Vita). I only bought the system to play Persona 4 Golden and Muramasa Rebirth so I didn't bother looking for a 3.60 system. Plus I don't like pirating Atlus games. But most of the best Playstation TV compatible games aside from P4G and Muramasa are on PS3 and/or PS4. You might get annoyed by P4G then since Rise is constantly calling Yu senpai and Teddy constantly calls him sensei in the game. I find Rise's voice maddening in Japanese though. :lol
I was thinking of going the Free McBoot route for PS2 since it's such a great system and I still have a component in free on the TV I have all my consoles hooked up to. I heard you can get some bad streaming issues in cutscene videos though, which doesn't make much sense since even an IDE drive stomps all over the transfer rate of a DVD. Has that been your experience with softmodded PS2? I heard the filesystem can be pretty slow to browse when you have a 250GB IDE drive filled with PS2 iso files.
How are you getting patches for PS3 games? I don't think it's smart to download them directly from the playstation servers like everyone recommends with cfw PS3, especially when you don't want to throw up red flags when you have a PSN account (no way I want to risk my account with how many digital games I buy).

It's not just outfits though if I'm not mistaken, you also get the battle themes and the after battle themes from Persona 2, 3, and 4 in Persona 5. Shiiiit, just to hear the Persona 3 after-battle theme once more is good enough for me. :lol

Yeah I remember using Free McBoot like five or so years ago out of boredom. I totally forgot how I got the memory card to get the save file, I think I may had used a USB stick + my Action Replay Max... but my memory is shaky at best so I can't really answer your questions about the streaming issues for cutscenes but I seriously don't remember any of my games having issues at all. I even used a USB hard drive too because my network adapter + hard drive combo stopped working for some reason. I didn't even have problems with cut scenes at all with the games I tried despite the claims that you shouldn't use a USB hard drive since if I remember correctly, the USB speeds on the PS2 are really fucking slow.
But yeah, I say go for it and try it out. You got nothing to lose by putting Free McBoot on your PS2. I think there were even ways to stream PS2 games from your computer to your PS2 and ways for your network adapter on the PS2 to see the ISO files on your computer and download the games from there. There were a lot of nifty things you could do on that thing.
Nah my PS3 is permanently offline ever since I disabled the internet connection through the settings of the CFW. To patch my games, I use my computer. There are websites and programs for that but I specifically use a program called ps3 tools by Aldo that scans my USB hard drive for games, then downloads the PKGs once it finds updates or sometimes I just put the game ID in the program. But the great thing about the PS3 and Sony is that you don't need to sign in to PSN to patch/update your games. I'm not going to fucking risk it though.

I know about those tools, but you're still downloading from the Playstation servers. I wouldn't do it without going through a fast proxy, since otherwise I don't want Sony coming and telling me they're banning my account because the same IP address I use for my PSN account on PS4 was logged downloading patches for games I never bought on PS3. I guess they couldn't tell that for physical games but a lot of the PS3 library is straight digital. CFW seems like too much of a risk IMO unless you start seeing updates and DLC posted to sites like mega.nz. Plus PS3 games were so cheap anyways that I bought almost everything I wanted on the system last year.
I can't front though: my 3ds is straight cfw. :lol
I hate Nintendo's insistence that digital game purchases are tied to console and not to user so I just don't buy digital games for Nintendo systems.

Ohhh I see what you're saying about the IP address and the PS4. Damn didn't even think about it like that. I do have a VPN that I probably should start using then. :lol
Yeah Nintendo fucking sucks when it comes digital games, I don't blame you. I would hate to buy the same game five times because these fuckers refuse to tie the games to accounts. But yeah, I make a list of the games that I do enjoy and buy them during my evaluation of these "complete demos". There's something about buying a game that I actually enjoyed that I'll fully support.

So basically, it's only good for Vita games and that's all? Meh, sounds like a pass for me.
I think I'm selling the PS TV a little short. It also plays PSP games (digital of course) and has a bunch of PS1 games. I forgot to include those because I play PS1 games on my Raspberry Pi and I don't play PSP games. The PSP is far and away the piece of hardware I most regret ever buying, as GTA sucked on a small screen and the glossy screen was unusable outside. The only game I liked on it was Loco Roco, and I have that remastered on PS4 now anyways. But I heard it got a decent library later on after I gave my PSP away.
If you're into JRPGs there is a lot of weird shit out there for Vita, and those games should mostly work on PS TV according to Kelsey Lewin (she's a JRPG nut) in Metal Jesus Rocks' Vita buying guide on youtube (amazing channel if you're interested in retro games).
If you put your PS TV on a different TV than your PS4 then you could stream your PS4 to your PS TV, though I think you're limited to 720p. It seems like it makes more sense on the actual Vita. I know a lot of Vita owners use that PS4 streaming as their preferred method for playing Persona 5. P5 was originally supposed to be a Vita game and most of the Persona series before 5 is available on Vita: e.g. Revelations Persona, Persona 2 Innocent Sin, Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, Persona 3 Portable, and Persona 4 Golden.
There is one other pretty cool looking Persona game on Vita/PS TV if you like rhythm games: Persona 4 Dancing All Night.

The story isn't great and plays out as a very long-winded visual novel but the art and music are great and it's pretty cool for a rhythm game. However, there is a PS4 version coming in Japan in May, but I think it might only be available if you buy the special edition of Persona 5 Dancing Star Night. That one comes with those two games and an upcoming Persona 3 Dancing Moon Night. P4 Dancing All Night is the only one that has any story content though. You can see it advertised at the end of the trailer for Persona 5 Dancing All Night:

You ever played any of the Shin Megami Tensei series? I had to stop playing Persona 3 FES since I have gotten pretty into Shin Megami Tensei IV on the 3DS. It doesn't have the social link time management stuff like in Persona and the story is kind of meh but the dungeon crawling is fucking crack in this game. The demon negotiation especially is awesome in SMT IV.

Persona is supposed to be like a spinoff or something from that series right? I think Persona used to be called Shin Megami Tensei: Persona if I'm not mistaken. To answer your question, I haven't tried any of those. I should check one out one day, but I wouldn't know where to start or if there's any continuity in that series.

Yeah Persona is a spinoff from the Shin Megami Tensei games. Instead of persona you can recruit demons, but a lot of the demons in this series are the same as the persona from the Persona series, so the combat should seem similar in many ways. It's supposed to be more a hardcore JRPG focusing on dungeon crawling, and so far SMT IV feels quite a bit harder than either Persona 4 Golden or Persona 5, though the early part of SMT IV is supposed to be the hardest part. If you like Persona games it's a good bet you'd probably like mainline Shin Megami Tensei also based on my experience with IV, unless you're only into Persona for the story and life sim. You have played some of Persona 5 right? In SMT IV you do demon negotiation kind of reminiscent of the negotiation you do in Persona 5 for personas, though they ask for money, items, to take your HP, to take your MP, etc in addition to wanting you to answer correctly.
You should check getting a CFW 3DS because there are a ton of Shin Megami Tensei games on it, as well as Persona Q and the upcoming Persona Q2, though the reception for Persona Q seems kind of mixed among fans of the series (I haven't tried it yet since it builds on both Persona 3 and Persona 4 Golden and I haven't played P3 yet). There is one more SMT game coming out on it I think in May too. It's a pretty badass system if you're into JRPG. Though maybe check Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne on your CFW PS3, as there is a PS2 Classics version of it and that game seems to be regarded as the best in the series by SMT fans online.
But damn 3DS is so easy to jailbreak. Check the site 3ds.hacks.guide to see how easy it is with Chinese flashcarts, though if you get lucky and find a used 3ds with firmware 9.0.0 to 11.3.0 you won't need a flashcart to put CFW on it. Then you'd only need a flashcart to play DS roms. New 3DS / New 3DS XL has much better 3D than old 3DS/3DS XL though. New 2DS XL is also good since it has the better cpu like New 3DS / New 3DS XL have, which is needed for playing the SNES VC games. My New 3DS XL is one of the best $100 I think I have spent not only for the JRPGs but for the Zelda games, Mario Kart 7, and being able to play NES / FDS / SNES games on a portable. (why the fuck is this still not supported on Switch?)

Yeah I'll have to check out Nocturne then. Have you played or seen gameplay of the first SMT on the SNES? I was expecting a top down view or isometric Final Fantasy style game but it's more of a Wolfenstein 3D with RPG elements. Fucking crazy. Totally not what I expected.
Just saw the trailer for the new SMT on the Switch; looks pretty fucking crazy. You know what, I could see why some would like this series more than the Persona series if they're the types to just enjoy dungeon crawlers without all the social fluff. I could see myself getting into it especially if I'm in the mood in just playing a dungeon crawler and nothing more but having that same art/style of the Persona series but a little more in the darker side.
But yeah, I'm on the second story of Persona 5, the one with the painter/artist dude.
I should definitely get a 3DS, only reason why I haven't is because of laziness. I would get a 2DS XL though, don't really care about the 3D stuff. But yeah, I'll check into it.

I put the first two SMT on my SNES Classic but haven't played them yet other than checking they work. It does seem pretty weird playing in first person mode. Persona Q on 3DS does that too. I gotta say the story in SMT IV is getting pretty interesting as I'm getting a little deeper into the game. I'm not sure if the characters will ever end up being anywhere near as interesting as in P5 or P4G though. Man I felt like a piece of crap jumping on that train and leaving everyone behind in Inaba in P4G. :lol
The 3D can actually be pretty good on the New 3DS XL in some games. For instance, Mario Kart 7 uses the 3D effect really impressively, the game is night and day better in 3D vs 2D. Zelda A Link Between Worlds also makes great use of the 3D, while playing 2D makes the game look kind of muddy. I like the 3D effect in Mario Golf also, it really makes it look like you're looking down a fairway. Surprisingly the effect doesn't seem at all impressive in Super Mario 3D Land, which was supposed to be killer app for 3D in the 3DS. In New Super Mario Bros 2 the 3D is kind of interesting on the overworld screen, but doesn't add much to the gameplay.
However, the 3D doubles the resolution the game is rendered at, so some games look a little cleaner with the 3D on even if the 3D effect doesn't do much. For instance, SMT IV and Bravely Default fall into this camp. The 3D can sometimes be bad if playing outdoors though, as it can be easy to lose the effect and trigger drunk double vision if the game is dark. For instance, I can't play Bravely Default outside with the 3D on even in the shade unless it's extremely overcast. No problem with indoor light though.
The 3D effect is really easy to lose in the old school 3DS and 3DS XL, but New 3DS and New 3DS XL have a camera that follows your face and adjusts the 3D effect accordingly. As long as you're not playing in bright outdoor light you usually won't lose the 3D effect unless you turn your head completely away from the screen. Then it'll take a second or so to get back once you turn your head to start looking back at the screen.
One of the advantages of the New 2DS XL is the microSD memory card is easy to swap out, while on the New 3DS XL you have to unscrew the back to change out the microSD. So when I want to put a new game on my New 3DS XL I briefly turn the wifi on and transfer it from my computer wirelessly (the New 3DS XL already has this feature built in). One downside of the New 2DS XL vs the New 3DS XL is the New 2DS XL has the speakers on the bottom so the sound isn't as good as in the New 3DS XL where they're on each side of the screen. The stylus is supposed to be uncomfortably short on the New 2DS XL from reviews, but I haven't used one. Surprisingly the 3DS stylus kit Nintendo puts out (that I needed since the pawn shop I bought from only had an old 3DS XL stylus) doesn't have a New 2DS XL stylus for me to compare.
New New 3DS XL can usually be found on sale for $175 or so while for a new New 2DS XL you're looking at $150, so you don't save much going with the 2d model. The flashcarts for CFW tend to go for around $30 or so plus probably another $20 or so on shipping if you want the cart from China within a week or two. The retailer they recommend on 3ds.hacks.guide has free shipping which people say usually takes two weeks but can take as long as 50 days. Since we're a week past the Chinese new year I wonder if the free shipping might be slow right now.

I just googled gameplay of Persona Q when you said it does the same thing as the SNES SMT... yikes! Not sure I dig that at all. Totally turned me off on ever playing that game. I just don't dig that in a dungeon crawler.
Man thanks for the info! Seems like the 3DS XL is the way to go. I had reservations about the 3D because it seems like such a fad from 5 years ago but if the 3DS XL actually puts it to good use in some games and there are advantages in having it for other reasons, then yeah, the extra $25 seems worth it even though it's not that much in the overall grand scheme of things. I'll wait after E3 though, you never know what Nintendo will decide to do with the thing especially since it's been replaced by the Switch.

I wouldn't be surprised to see PS5 by 2020. I think we'll see a new gen once AMD's fab start manufacturing on 7nm. They're expecting to do it by 2019 but no one is hitting expected deadlines on node shrinks right now so I figure we'll see PS5 in late 2020 or maybe 2021.

Dude Bloodborne is the best game I have played since Zelda A Link to the Past back in 1992. Even if the rest of the PS4 library was complete dogshit (like the Switch's launch library minus Zelda BOTW) it would still be worth buying a PS4 just for Bloodborne. It has the most interesting combat I have ever played in a game and while there isn't much to the story, the setting is really dark and immersive. One thing I have to caution you about though: it's like 1980s NES games in that it can be crpytic: think Castlevania II Simon's Quest where you have to get the red crystal and duck by the side of a cliff to reach the next part of the map. The thing that makes people rage quit Bloodborne en masse is the most cryptic part of the game is the absolute beginning. You're never told you need to get one point of insight to be able to start leveling up. There are two ways to gain insight: to find a Madman's Knowledge and use it or to fight a boss. The easiest way to get that first point of insight is just to run to the first boss: Cleric Beast. Look up on youtube how to get to him. He'll kill you quickly unless you're godly at Souls games but you gain the point of insight that awakens the doll who lets you level up in Hunter's Dream (it's your base in the game). Until you get that first point of insight you're just spinning your wheels and none of the blood echoes (eg the currency in the game) can be spent on upgrading your level. You might be tempted to use your blood echoes on the best armor you can buy early on, but armor is almost useless in Bloodborne (same in Dark Souls 1) so you might as well just wear whatever is lightest and you think looks best.

I beat the first Souls game without any help from youtube IGN etc...I will probably end up just looking up Cleric Beast like you said and just memorize his patterns until I beat him. If you're comparing this to A Link to the Past then it must be pretty special. I've always bought Sony consoles because of the library. I still have 4-5 unopened games on the PS3 :lol The original XBox was pretty sweet though imo I still have it and about 20 games or so. Halo 1 & 2, Fight Night, Fable, Madden 05, The old 2k basketball games and MLB 2k series before it got destroyed by The Show :tu

Cleric Beast isn't hard at all. It's just you have to get to him before you can really do anything in the game. It's not even close in my book that Bloodborne is the best game in 25 years, it completely outclasses everything I have ever played other than A Link to the Past and the original Super Mario Bros. Dark Souls 1 is an amazing game and I will for sure be getting the remaster, but Bloodborne is more challenging, faster, and encourages much more aggressive play while Dark Souls feels like a pretty defensive game. Or by first Souls game did you mean Demon's Souls? I love that game too, but for the Souls games I have played, my ranking on a scale of 0-10 would be
Bloodborne 10/10
Dark Souls 9.5/10
Demons Souls 8/10.
I can't recommend Bloodborne highly enough. And the only complaint you ever see in the reviews were about the long loading times, but those have been long since fixed.

Unfortunately Demon's Souls is the only one I have played so far. I think it was the first at least here in the States. Might be different in Japan though idk. I bought it used at GameStop and was really happy with the difficulty. Most games to that point would hold your hand until you beat them. Demon's Souls was like a blast from the past to those old impossible Nintendo games like Ninja Gaiden. I think it set a trend for more difficult video games with the amazing reception it got.

If you liked Demon's Souls you'll fucking go nuts with Bloodborne. The levels are of similar difficulty but the boss fights are fucking legendary in Bloodborne. I wonder if you can buy DLC for a PS Plus game though. Because the DLC is epic too and has three of the best boss fights of the entire Soulsborne series.

Have you seen how expensive RAM is now though? I bought a 16GB DDR3-2400 kit for $75 back in 2015 now good luck getting a 16GB DDR4-2400 kit for less than $160. At least cpu is cheap as hell right now for high end shit. Like the i5-8600k and i7-8700k both murder the i7-7700k, with the 7600k about $100 cheaper and the 8700k slightly more expensive than the 7700k.
Next gaming PC I build is going to be mini ITX for sure. You already have even 70 series cards coming in really low on power consumption, much less 60 series cards down to 120 watts now. So big cases with lots of airflow don't seem that important any more. Maxwell and before you could really up your power consumption (and thus need for cooling) with overclocking but in Pascal GPU Boost 3.0 has these bitches pushed balls to the wall and the 1070 still only consumes 150W under gaming load.
