Cyberpunk is only worth it for free or when in a bin special for like 3 dollars.

It looks alright on PC. I'd be pretty surprised if it ever got to being better than a 5/10 game on base last gen consoles though, CDPR really screwed the pooch the on them.

Curious, do you have a FreeSync or GSync monitor? Was kind of considering getting one since my cpu is a little weak for gaming right now (4C/8T Haswell chip, Xeon E3-1231v3 at 3.6 GHz) but was wondering if 40-50 fps on a FreeSync panels looks worth a shit. Because I know you weren't getting a steady 60 fps on Cypberpunk. :lol

Gsync monitor, though the main display i generally use for playing PC games is a 4k TV. Definitely was not getting a steady 60 fps, could hit it in areas on medium but not consistently. i was probably more in the 40-45 FPS range majority of the time. for the most part though.

i didnt experience too many bugs or crashes, except one that made me reload a quest checkpoint and of course the shitty graphics cars/people that would take a few seconds to fully render. other than that it was pretty enjoyable. obviously not giving CDPR a pass because they fucked up in a lot of aspects but I never expected this game to be on par with Witcher 3 so it wasnt a disappointment to me

What do you think of GSync when running 40 to 50 fps? I don't really want to pay for GSync since that requires a 144Hz panel and if you're chasing 144 fps these days you're going to be constantly upgrading not just gpu, but also cpu. But I'd like to get a 4k panel with FreeSync range in the 40-75 Hz range, or maybe 40-60 Hz range since I could play older games like Yakuza 0 at 4k and new games will still look good at 1080p since 4k is an integer scale of 1080p. Just wondering how much it smoothes out sub 60 fps gaming.

G-Sync definitely is not a magic fix for making sub 60 FPS gaming likable IMO. The second my frames are below 60 I can tell, even with my FPS counter off. It just really gets rid of all the hiccups and smoothens out the overall experience in your games. Eliminates microstutter and shit like that. I remember Linus Tech Tools making it seem like that ROG G-Sync Monitor that first came out was a magic fix for less than 60 FPS performance and it's definitely not.

Crap. I don't want to pay for 144 Hz gaming, especially with faggot eth miners blowing prices up in the gpu market every two years.

Gears 5, mainly to test out my Atmos set up.

Atmos isn't as big a step up going from stereo to 5.1, but it's still a trip hearing a waterfall above you and how the sounds kind of "float" around in space since Atmos is object based vs. channel based. At times, it seems a character is right next to me talking.

Just playing tekken 7 now. Trying to finish dishonored 2.

I would say tekken 7 is the most skill reliant video game of all time. The difference between tekken and smah brohters in terms of skill requirement is mental.

No wonder fighting games are so niche. Its way too hard and tekken takes it even a step further. You’re practiclly a noob after a year of playing and thousands of hours played because everyone has legacy experience and has played for 20 years.

Gears 5 was solid, I never really played the other titles so had no basis of comparison but i enjoyed the combat and story was decent. there are a couple sandbox areas that are just dumb though. overall a decent third person shooter

i used to play tekken in like PS1-PS2 days

im not that big into fighting games, but dont most serious players think Street Fighter > Tekken? mostly because in Tekken attacks just do too much damage. one combo string does like 45% damage.

my favorites back then were Tekken 3 and Tag

I don't believe so. Tekken is serious business and the esport scene was booming last year. They have also have a bigger playerbase.

It's an issue in lower-intermediate players for sure. High ranks tend to be Poking mostly.

Wonder if it loses anything playing it now, being pretty early gen. DJR210, Cry Havoc, and I were nuts over that game when it came out, but that was nearly 6 years ago I think. Graphics were really impressive for early 2015 though and I had just built a pretty nice gaming PC a few months before. I loved the sheer violence of it, chopping heads off and cutting down limbs in slow motion sequences with bad B-movie music playing. And then the most predictable plot ever that made it seem like a shout out to low budget gore movies.

I think if I listed my top 10 games of last generation I'd go

1. Bloodborne
2. NieR Automata
3. Persona 5 Royal
4. Dying Light
5. Super Mario Odyssey
6. God of War
7. Yakuza 0
8. Red Dead Redemption 2
9. Horizon Zero Dawn
10. The Witcher 3

with apologies to Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us, Part II, which I'm waiting to play on PS5. Pretty ridiculous generation it was, especially to not even have a game as good as Zelda Breath of the Wild in it, which was a game I put at least 150 hours into.

My top 10 of the last 10 years, off the top of my head:

1. Witcher 3

2. Rocket League

3. Borderlands 2

4. Titanfall 2

5. Dark Souls III

6. Elite Dangerous (VR)

7. Wolfenstein: The New Order

8. Dying Light

9. Subnautica

10. Bastion

Might be forgetting a couple of games in there.

Games I've rediscovered in the past few years:

Company of Heroes
M&B Warband (seriously one of the best modding communities in gaming history)
New Vegas -- Got about 1/3rd of the way into it last time and my save file corrupted, then I built a new rig and lost my saves the next time through, so I'm just now playing through it xD

Current games I'm really enjoying:
Hades
HL Alyx
Thrill of the Fight
Deep Rock Galactic
Doom (2016)
Cyberpunk 2077
Apex
Heroes of Hammerwatch
COD Warzone

5. Dark Souls III

Man I gotta play that. Have had it on PC for a few years but backlog is fucking huge. Dude if you ever get a PS5, make sure to pick up Bloodborne and its DLC. Think Dark Souls but if you had to play it much more aggressively and fight in a phone booth. For instance, there are no shields in Bloodborne. There is no ranged combat, guns are only used for parrying. When you get hit you absolutely need to attack back since it leeches back some health. Also you can't do a tank build, armor is pretty much all cosmetic. Technically not impressive at all on graphics, but the setting is first rate and the art style is awesome. Plus it has two fights I'd consider way better than Ornstein & Smough in Dark Souls 1.

Do you have the DLC for New Vegas? Old World Blues is one of the best DLC I have ever played in a game, right up there with The Old Hunters in Bloodborne and Blood and Wine in Witcher 3. The Honest Hearts and Lonesome Road DLC are pretty high quality too. I absolutely hated the Dead Money DLC though, worst DLC I have ever played in a good game. Also if you like New Vegas you should give Fallout 1 & 2 a try, as Obsidian hired a lot of the people behind those original Fallout games before selling the license to Bethesda. They're on sale all the time for like $3 each and Fallout 2 is number 2 on my all time turn based RPG list, behind Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne (PS2 game with a remake coming to Switch and PC in a couple of months) but over other turn based games I have loved like Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Digital Devil Saga Avatar Tuner 1, Final Fantasy IV and VI, Chrono Trigger, etc.

Also I remember you were hyped when it sounded like Persona 5 was coming to Switch. If so, gotta check out Persona 4 Golden on Steam. So great to finally have this amazing game off the Vita. Atlus is hinting we might see more of their catalog ported to PC after P4G sold insanely well, and they're hinting shit related to Persona's 25th anniversary this year.

I think if we were going top games of the last ten years so I could add 360/Vita/3DS gen I'd rank them

1. Bloodborne
2. NieR Automata
3. Skyrim
4. Persona 5 Royal
5. Persona 4 Golden
6. Dying Light
7. Super Mario Odyssey
8. God of War
9. Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

i dont see witcher 3 as game of a generation. will say though that not only is it massive, but unlike other massive games like AC Odyssey, the writing isn't diluted at all. monster contracts and side quests all had interesting stories to them.

i enjoyed AC Odyssey's combat more, but the side quests were like "there are some soldiers over there, can you please kill them" :lol

Witcher 3 is wildly popular with PC gamers because it's one of the few games that made really good use of gpu effects that were too expensive computationally to use on last gen consoles, as the game was developed for PC gamers first and then cut down for consoles while usually games are designed with console limitations guiding them and then they get better textures and draw distances and other small things when ported to more powerful PCs. I think it's a really good game independent of the graphics, but for a lot of PC gamers that was the game that made building a higher end system worth it. For me Witcher 3 was a 9.5/10 game since I played it on a relatively high end PC for the time, but I imagine it would probably be an 8.5/10 if I played on PS4 with the graphics and framerate cut down. Especially since PS4 got a worse port than XBox One. But still, 8.5/10 is a really good game IMO. But yeah, not game of the generation for me, even though I played the best version of the game with minimal compromise. My game of the generation was Bloodborne on PoorStation 4 with all the horrific frame pacing. :lol God if that would have ever gotten a 60 fps PC port or even a PS5 performance patch.

I had no beefs with the Witcher 3. Best game I've ever played tbh. I suppose if I played it 5 years post release some of the gameplay would be slightly dated but its still my favorite game of all time. And I played it on PS4 before PC

the missions in The Following are much better than the main campaign tbh (love the tension of clearing out volatile nests)... but i hate the layout and having to use the buggy. freerunning was much more enjoyable, and not a big fan of the way the buggy drives.
finished this the other day. Dying Light was pretty fun. would recommend. DLC had good missions but i didnt love the buggy. ending disappointed narratively (in the DLC. i liked the base ending)

gonna play Guacamelee next (per bb's recommendation)... followed by one of Rise of the Tomb Raider or Bioshock 2. probably dark souls 2 after that.

backlog is still daunting after that ... dark souls 3, Yakuza 0, days gone, Nioh, metal gear solid V, skyrim, fallout 4, shadow of the tomb raider. and having a kid in 6 months. probably wont need to buy a ps5 until 2022 black friday at the earliest :lol

I thought it was pretty cool seeing Crane become the night crawler at the end. Well you only got six more Yakuza games after 0, not counting the new one that's a turn based RPG that looks amazing. Better get all that backlog finished these six months. :lol

It's funny in this thread you can see me shitting on Yakuza 0 when I first started it and then becoming a big fan of the game. :lol

The PS2 style fixed camera angles when you're indoors are rough in the older games. But indoors like restaurants, bars, and arcades, not where any of the real gameplay takes place.

There is a program called DS4Windows to run DualShock 4 on PC pretty effortlessly. I just use it wired though because I can't find a bluetooth adapter that works worth a shit if I'm 3 feet away from it. DS4Windows emulates a 360 controller so you get XBox button prompts though.

PS4 and 360 are the only consoles I have that aren't hacked, but the PS4 jailbreak covering everything up to Cyberpunk 1.00 looks like it's coming in a span of weeks. Won't ever hack my 360 since (1) it requires soldering (2) the vast majority of the library is on PC (3) all the good exclusives not on PC are cheap and I already have them.

Reck man, if your PS4 is on 7.55 or lower you should be able to hack it in within the next few weeks. Don't ever go online with it if you want to hack it because it'll push 8.03 on you right away if you do.

Well if you're just going to play backlog games and have nothing new you're looking forward to, you could just disconnect your PS4 from your network. Though if you gotten online anytime since October 14th, 2020 you have the 8.00 or above firmware and this hack is very unlikely to work.

IDK, the more research I'm doing on the PS4 hacking scene, the more I'm debating doing it once the exploit comes out though. Some people seem to love the current 7.02 hack, some are having hell with crashes on 7.02. Also you'll likely have to run the exploit every time you power on your system, same way you have to do with Switch and had to do with Vita for a while too. And the exploit seems to only work 10-20% of the time because it relies on exploiting a race condition bug, so not a hole for the exploit that's going to be open every time. Might be something you'd want to wait a few months on for stability to get ironed out like it mostly seems to have with the 6.72 exploit.

You'd never be able to play games online with the hack. You'd have to be on current 8.03 firmware to access anything PSN.

The benefits would be free PS4 games, being able to emulate some PS2 games, emulate some PSP games. I think the last released PS4 game you'd be able to play on 7.55 is Cyberpunk 2077 1.00 (eg no Day 1 patch) but you'd get Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Final Fantasy VII, 13 Sentinels, pretty much all the big games of 2020 and before.

EDIT: Honestly seems like more trouble than it's worth, as much as I'd like to be able to play Japanese versions of PS4 games without having to import them used from Japan for ridiculous prices.

Starting to think it's not worth the hassle for me either as much as I hate the idea of paying $90 for Persona 5 Royal in Japanese. I pretty much own everything I'd ever want to play in English on PS4 anyways. 13 Sentinels is pretty much the only thing I'd play in English that I don't already own (saving Ghost of Tsushima and TLOU Part II until I get a PS5).

This is one of those games you will kick yourself over and ask why you didn't play sooner. It's very satisfying.

It has been a couple of years since I played so don't remember exactly how far you sound like you are, but it can get a little challenging late in the game. But the difficulty ramps up pretty steadily. I played another 2D sidescroller kind of game like that on 3DS called Shantae something and it went straight from Kotaku journalist level easy the first 95% of the game to having NES difficulty platforming at the very end, just a fucking cliff at the end of the game. Think I'm going to wait to see how this 7.55 exploit for PS4 turns out before buying a PS5. If it drives up the re-sale price of 7.50 PS4 a lot I think I'm just going to sell the fucker and get serious trying to land a PS5. If not I'll still hold onto it until PS5 isn't such a bastard to find. What's funny is I only spent $220 on my PS4 brand new in 2016 and there's a decent chance I could get every cent back selling it now even before the 7.55 exploit releases. :lol So maybe I'll still sell it once I finish Yakuza 4.

whats the story with this 7.55 stuff

There was a kernel exploit for at least firmware 7.51 publicly announced a couple of weeks ago, but Sony only marked the bug fixed at the time of 8.00's release so it's pretty likely the kernel exploit is good through firmware 7.55 (last firmware before 8.00). That kernel exploit combined with another hack patched out in 8.00 allows you to install homebrew (eg emulators, fan made ports of games, etc) as well as pirate games released up to 7.55. So for instance, most games from 2020 and before. I think the unpatched N64 graphics version of Cyberpunk is the latest released game you'll be able to play on 7.55. If your PS4 connected to the internet on October 14th, 2020 or later you're probably already on firmware 8.00 or later this hack does nothing for you, as there is no way to roll back to an earlier firmware (well there is, but it's long and requires you to have already made a full backup before on earlier firmware). But if you have a system on 7.55 or below you're within the next few weeks going to either be able to pirate the vast majority of the PS4 library or likely sell your PS4 for a decent profit (7.02 and below is already hacked with a publicly released homebrew enabler if you're on that firmware or lower).

To see your firmware version go to Settings -> System -> System Information and it'll be listed next to System Software.

If you're on something below 8.00 and want to pirate and/or sell your system for more, completely shut off internet access for your PS4 by going to System -> Network and unchecking Connect to the Internet. Also go to System -> Automatic Downloads and uncheck everything.

No console wants you ever downgrading firmware so they all put traps to keep you from being able to do it. I don't know how Sony does it on PS4 but for instance on Switch every time you do a firmware upgrade through official update it burns a microscopic fuse in the cpu so that it is impossible to boot the system on a lower firmware than the one burned into the cpu.

Oh you can forget it. My PC is not meant to run any sort of game. It's actually a Mac :lol

I have a virtual box running Win10 on it with Parallels Desktop. I'm more comfortable with Windows but also like the cleanliness that a Mac brings with it so I'm kind of getting the best of both worlds and it works for me. Did you do much in the way of side quests? I like the one when the little kid gets Kiryu to buy him a porno mag because the kid thinks any magazine that's shrink wrapped has to be really cool. Stories are excellent in all five of the games I have played (finished 0-3 and am about 70% or so through 4).

I haven't played it yet, but feel like a moron for buying the PS4 version of it a few weeks ago now. You're a detective in Kamurocho with a lot of the same fighting style and minigames like you see in the Yakuza series. It's supposed to play pretty much like a Yakuza game. It also has an English dub unlike the Yakuza games (except Yakuza 1 on PS2 which has a horrendous English dub). But the English dub sounds weird to me in the trailer Sega just released. US version still lets you play with JP voices though, at least the PS4 US version.

apalisoc_9 (https://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=11260) have you played Sekiro lately since the update? new twists on some of the bosses, including a gauntlet mode where you have to run through x amount of bosses without any deaths :lol

they have more challenging variants of the Genichiro, Owl (father), and Ishiin (final boss version, not old man version)

the easy gauntlet is the early bosses, Gyubo, Butterfly, Genichiro (new version), and you unlock a new combo art. yesterday i was giving a whirl at one of the other gaunlets that goes with the Shura ending (Emma, old man Ishiin, Demon of Hatred... but also the new version of owl father which is tough). i havent beaten that gauntlet consecutively. still die a lot of demon of hatred and new owl.

theres a third gauntlet with some other bosses like the ape, owl (easy version), and the final boss ishiin.

and then if you complete all of them, you unlock a final gauntlet where you literally have to go through every fucking boss without dying :lol. not sure what all the rewards are, but the first gauntlet i beat gave me a new combat art

Man, you still like and play those things? Demos seems like a thing from the past.

Besides, I’ve never really liked to play demos because I feel they lessen the experience somehow. That’s why I rarely watch trailers for games I want. The less I know of the game’s mechanics the better.

I go by sense, reviews and buzz. :lol

Japanese demo came out like a month before the game, so yeah I played that shit.

gotta say i dont remember it too much. i did think it was cool that a lot of the missions felt legitimately different from one another as you switch characters. i remember loving any mission with lightsabers, but i hated the fucking dogfight near the end. i was playing on hard difficulty and that was a complete nightmare

my rule of thumb is the "hard" difficulty... so if its just easy/medium/hard i play the hardest option. if there are 4+ options, with a "hard" and then "very hard" or "extreme" or something, i usually say fuck that and just play the regular hard. after one playthrough, if i have the urge to go back again, i up the difficulty to that highest one. at least by then ive learned the game well enough to survive

i remember playing god of war, i played my first run on "give me a challenge" which was still pretty tough. if i played "give me god of war" on my initial run i dont think i could have beaten the game... but i did go back on a subsequent playthrough on that difficulty.

Damn I played that shit on normal, didn't think the hard mode offered anything except making your attacks weak and your defense weaker. There are some optional bosses in the game that take 15-30 minutes to kill on normal with a level 99 character constantly attacking without pause. Not talking about the gold ones that take forever to kill as 2B but can be killed pretty quickly by 9S.

I've played Bloodborne, Sekiro, and DS3. I've also played a few of the soulslike games like Code Vein, the Surge, and I'd then throw Jedi Fallen Order in there and I think it's between Sekiro and DS3. Timed parrying can be really difficult to get the hang of and it's the main mechanic in Sekiro. It took me quite a bit of dying to finally get passable at it. DS3 is really just about being patient but there are a few bosses that were just insanely hard for me compared to the other games (Pontiff Sulyvahn, Dragonslayer Armor, Slave Knight Gael). I just had a really hard time with those three more than any other game I can recall

Playing MHW really makes Dark Souls easier. In World, the fights are waaaaaay longer (and they got to be bs towards the end of the game's update lifetime), so memorizing attack windows is crucial. I started NG+ in DS3, and most of the fights were child's play. Granted, I played the game already, but fighting Midir after spending 8 hours fighting Alatreon, was nothing in comparison. I'm not saying that Monster Hunter is harder--it's not the same as Dark Souls, especially when it comes to combat--but it does have a much higher learning curve.

Sekiro is definitely the hardest FromSoft game. Then it's Bloodborne. The Dark Souls games are interchangeable, and Demon's Souls is the easiest.

spurraider21
03-03-2021, 07:34 PM
i think i definitely found Dark Souls 1 to be easier than both bloodborne and sekiro... though subsequent playthroughs of sekiro were much shorter and easier. i did love the new quasi-dlc in sekiro that just lets you do boss runs, including 3 bosses that were revamped to be even stronger.

i havent bothered with the last gauntlet though (requires you to do a run of 17 bosses without dying once :lol... fuck that)

i wonder if part of why i found bloodborne tough was because it was the first FromSoft game i had played, though. it did get easier the more i played, but grinding through all the chalice dungeons was still a bitch. the bosses there were harder than the main game (maybe with exception of Orphan of Kos from the DLC).

i still think NG+ Sigrun on GMGOW difficulty is as tough as any boss i've faced... with the exception of some of the juiced up sekiro bosses

They're in deep shit with Rockstar online in GTA6, do they let those people keep the stuff they spent real money on or do they wipe everyone and start over. Infamous 1 and 2 are outstanding. Among the best games to have come out on the PS3. Second son on PS4 was a disappointment.

if they made remasters of 1 and 2 for next gen i would probably buy.

1 and 2 are EASILY worth 2 playthroughs each, as you get different powers based on which karmic route you choose. Only thing I’d caution is that despite “karma choices” it’s not an rpg. You are basically incentivized to be totally good or totally evil so it’s kinda simplistic that way. Which route you choose in 2 affects the story more as well. Those games were definitely made to be played twice. Did not get the same vibe at all in second son

Didn’t have much spare time to game this week. Gave AC3 some time this weekend and holy hell that game feels completely unplayable. Movement/parkour is so clunky. Combat is terrible. Plot is mumbo jumbo.

uninstalled it. Will play rise of tomb raider next.

Infamous 1 and 2 are outstanding. Among the best games to have come out on the PS3. Second son on PS4 was a disappointment.

I think I'd only be the bad guy in inFAMOUS lol.

I got bored to death twice trying to play AC3, and that was after absolutely loving the first two Ezio AC games and still liking the third Ezio game too. That game made no sense to remaster.

its worth being both because getting different powers is interesting. that difference is more pronounced in infamous 2 as well

infamous 1 was a really good game on its own, and infamous 2 knocked it out of the park by keeping what was great about 1 and just making it generally better. one thing i liked about 1 more than 2 was that the cutscenes were done in a graphic novel style kinda like the original max payne, whereas 2 had fully animated cutscenes, which is guess is technically an improvement anyway, but the feel of 1 was pretty cool because of it

Gonna get a PoorC so you can do that mod? Ask ElNono to make an all-Sigrun DLC for God of War. :lol

I moved my GOAT of War saves to the PS5 and started a NewGame+ with the 60fps patch. I gotta remember the strategies on this game, I'm getting destroyed.

Its a lot of fun. But it’s unbalanced in my opinion as evil powers makes things easy as hell.

I saved that run for last.

Really? I preferred good powers in both games. Especially 2. Evil only felt op at the very very end of 1

Thought you were a big Spiderman fan. No interest in Miles Morales?

Too short of a game.

Strongly considering purchasing a PSVR

But there's talks that they're making a new one for the PS5 so that kinda ruins things.

i have one, its not that great. save your money tbh. it was a neat gimmick at first but the whole thing is just too many wires and junk to constantly have out, and the movements in the VR setting are still pretty rudimentary. it's getting better but still not great

Makes no sense today, PS4 can't push a good VR experience. I'll be very interested in PSVR 2 though since PS5 has the hardware for it.

Tekken 2 might still have the best intro of any video game

It's up there with RE1's intro for me

Ghost of Tsushima really reminds me of The Witcher 3 with how they do the lighting, with some Uncharted style climbing. Awesome how vertical this game is. Story is great too. Combat is good but not elite like God of War or Sekiro. Boss fights haven't been anything to write home about either. Overall pretty addicting game but the parrying feels way too powerful.

Playing thru HZD on the PC now that it's playable. Great game but I forgot how meh the weapons/armor/skills were in this game. Looks amazing though
