Gradius II. Kicking my ass. Seems much harder than Gradius I.
I always thought Gradius > R-Type

I wanted to get Rage 2 but I heard it's basically Fallout 76: New Dawn :lol supposedly the open world is empty and there's only like 8 missions. I heard the actual gun play is legit though
It was cracked like 8 seconds after release.. go get it. Games are so enjoyable when there's no buyers remorse to take into consideration

I always thought Gradius > R-Type
Both are great for their own reasons. R-Type is a bit slower paced and tactical. Ever play Gradius II? I don't think I'm Japanese enough for this game. I can no death about half the game, but always take some stupid death, lose my power-ups, and it's GG. Can get to the last level, but have to continue about 6 thousand times, and if you're not powered up there, forget about it. Wonder if BaselineBum's 1/4th Jap side beat this monster (and legend is Gradius 3 Arcade is about impossible).
That said, the game is fair. Just mercilessly punishes you for mistakes.
Playing Team Sonic Racing. Meh...

Playing Rage 2. It's fine; feels like a mix of Fallout, Doom, and the Borderlands games but just not as good. I've played like 3 hours already and I'm having fun but it's not blowing me away.
The sad thing is that that should be a formula for awesome. But if it's just a pale imitation of the three, that sucks :/

Double Discounts are shit sales they usually do right before or right after a really good sale, putting the regular "good sale" price as the PS Plus price. For instance, the Days of Play sale is coming soon, probably June 9th - 15th but possibly starting Sunday on the 2nd. PS Store usually does a good E3 sale but since they're probably folding that into Days of Play since they're not going to E3 this year. The really big PS Store Summer Sale though comes in late June to early July in the MidYear Sale. Sometimes the Midyear Sale is even better than the Black Friday Sale.

you think i'll get a better deal than $14.39 for bioshock collection or $14.99 for witcher 3 complete?
those are the only ones i'm particularly interested from the current selection. not only would those keep me occupied for a good amount of time (particularly skyrim), i still have fallout 4 (base edition, though, no DLC) and MGS V on my current backlog which both figure to be fairly long games. thats not including some random 10-12 hour games i have.
buddy of mine also has UC4 and all the assassins creed games, which he's gonna lend the discs for when i needem
other games that i generally have on my mind that i'll wait for good deals would be: dark souls trilogy, bloodborne, nier automata, skyrim, yakuza 0, arkham knight, hellblade.

You'd be buying on his account? In that case I think only his PS4 would be able to play the games without an internet connection. Whereas you would have to phone home to Sony to play those I think [and probably only when he isn't playing the same game]. Whereas buying on your account you'd have offline access on your PS4 that's set as the main system for the account and would have first dibs on the game on gameshare. I think, probably best to double check with PSN support.

Damn Spiderman for $20 is going to be a must buy. Days Gone I'll probably wait for a complete edition like you suggest here for new games. Wish I would have done that with Horizon Zero Dawn since the DLC looks amazing but I don't want to start a big game over to play it.

i've had this system in place for a while, and its been fine.
essentially, he has his PSN account and I have mine. but the console in my home is registered as the "primary ps4" for his account and vice versa. i still log into my account, though, and he does the same.
every account on a ps4 has access (even offline) to the "primary" user's digital library. so even when i log into my own account, i have access to his digital library. however, because my account's primary ps4 is not in my home, i only have online access to digital games that i purchased under my account. as long as i have an internet connection, i'm good to go. my cousin already had PS+, so its no skin off his back. i could just as easily buy the games under my own account and have online access to them. but i just wouldnt qualify for the full sale price.
so long story short, yes, i need an internet connection to access games that have been purchased under my own account. but i dont mind that. neither does he.

Yeah but you like shooters, platformers, and action games, right? How much do you have to know how to read for them? Even something like Princess Crown you could probably get by on google translate for the text. Now if you want to play RPG then yeah, learn the 2200 jouyou kanji, all the particles and how they make up the grammar, as well as maybe 6000 vocabulary in a mix of kanji, hiragana, and katakana (three fucking writing systems that are absolutely critical for reading). These days it's reasonably doable with mnemonics and SRS though.

Mnemonics and SRS are really cool. I wish I knew about them when taking Spanish class at university. Then I might have actually picked up the language vs busting my ass to make a lousy B. Let me give you an example of what I mean by mnemonics though.
The kanji for mix is 混. But it's not mix like you mix some cement. It's much darker. It's used a lot for things involving miscegenation. For instance, mixed race is 混血 (mix + blood). Or it's used for bad things. Like confusion is 混同 (mix + same). Chaos is 混乱 (mix + riot). Let me show you a way to remember the kanji in a way that hints at a really nasty connotation of mix this word (and kanji symbol) seems to have:
First you have to know the kanji 匕 means spoon. It's just a pictograph. Then day is 日, which is a pictograph of the sun (it also means sun). For compare you have 比. E.g. spoon next to spoon, but the first is shaped a little weird being on the left. Left is bad in Japan. My Japanese grandmother was left handed and growing up in the 1930s-1940s they made her learn to write, to eat, to do everything right handed. So I remember 比 as comparing the cooking of my mothers in law's (bad, left) to my mother's, spoon in each hand. So compare = 比.
Now 昆 = descendant = day + compare. To remember this just think of grandparents who will spend the day comparing photos of their descendants. Since day is first in the sentence it reminds that it should either be on the left or the top of descendants. Here it's top of course.
The kanji for water is 水. But when on the left of another kanji to form a single kanji symbol it looks like this: 氵.
So just remember this horrible sentence: "Mixed marriages produce watered down descendants" to get the kanji 混 = mix = water + descendant and leave kind of a nasty feeling attached to this form of mix.
The mnemonics work for vocab too. For instance the verb "to die" is しぬ, which reads like し = "she" and ぬ = "new" but with shorter vowels (I didn't put the kanji in for it since it's distracting here). So to remember this verb just think of a sentence like "She knew too much, she had to die". To die = しぬ.

You couldn't be more wrong honestly. It's way way easier using mnemonics, especially when you can personalize the stories to things that matter to you. Go study Japanese out of the standard textbook (Genki) and tell me how you pick up any of the kanji the way they show it just as graphics to copy (it's a great book aside from the garbage kanji presentation). Visual memory sucks, the vast majority of people will never be able to remember these symbols and their stroke order just from seeing and repetition of writing unless they're Japanese kids drilling it for ten years, six days a week at school. The stories help you break things down into smaller parts that are easier to remember and work as short term memory with the goal of getting it to rote via SRS (spaced repetition system). I have been studying kanji for three weeks now (~ 2 hours day) and I have about 550 down that I can write, understand, and recognize when reading Japanese thanks to these stories and organization that comes from a book called Remembering the Kanji by Heisig. Doing my SRS flash card deck weighted towards the ones I know worst (using a program called Anki) I'm getting about 95% of them right when doing batches of 100. Fucking blows me away because I always struggled with memory back in college (one time enrolled in a psychobio course for the GE credits and saw 30 definitions on the power point on the first day of class and said fuck this and dropped it for another course instead :lol). Don't feel bad, I thought it sounded like bullshit too at first.
You have to know the 2200 jouyou kanji (means general use Chinese characters, it's a list created by Japan's equivalent to our Dept of Education) to be literate.

Indeed. I've always liked Mnemonics, especially for something like remember long numbers. E.g. 80899736590, The music group 808 state and number 99 Wayne Gretzky released 73 records in 65 countries and 90 cities.
Obviously could be more and more refined to connect with your personal knowledge to make the sentence even easier to remember.

If you don't feel like reading the excoriating of the terrible brain-as-computer metaphor, scroll down to the part where the writer tasked his students with drawing a dollar bill from memory.
That's not to say the brain might have some hidden visual memory potential, like savants being able to accurately draw a city scape from memory, but the increased horsepower in that regard usually comes at a price of some other more important mental function, like being able to cook for yourself or tie your shoes.

That's cool about the dollar. I doubt I would have done much better other than putting the dark frame inside the outer white frame and shields in every corner. Though I would have drawn them as ovals instead of getting that more cross shaped one on the top right. :lol

Same. Then again, it's not like I've ever really sat and stared at a dollar bill either and tried to memorize its visual details. There are other objects I could draw from memory much more effectively.
I'd be interested to see how someone would do drawing a keyboard from memory. We don't look at keyboards a lot if we are good at typing without using sight, but we obviously have the main key locations memorized--just not visually. Makes me wonder how that would translate to trying to draw a visual image without looking.

Hey man since you're sharing PS Plus with someone, make sure he claims What Remains of Edith Finch real quickly before the June PS Plus games go live (it's a May PS Plus game). It's a really cool 2-3 hour story game that's a perfect palate cleanser after a long game. One of the best stories I have ever played about a cursed house and cursed family. Just scrolled up enough to read the entire explanation with the Kanji, and found it pretty cool. Stories work the same way for me as they do for you. I think it’s not only about breaking things down into smaller bits of information that are easier to remember, but attaching more meaning to them so they don’t seem completely arbitrary.
There’s a memory test where you’re given a set of a bunch of words (like 10-20 I think), and you’re given a couple minutes to study them. Then you go do something else for some time period (can’t remember if it’s 10 minutes or longer), then you are supposed to try and write down all the words you can remember. I came up with a story about the words, and managed to write down all of them. It works really well.

That'll be at least $50 by the end of the auction. I highly recommend getting at least Dark Souls 1 though. Not quite a 10/10 like Bloodborne, but an easy 9.5/10 for a couple of boss battles and for the atmosphere.

Fucking NBA finals got me pumped up. It was only for 20 dollars anyway.
Been playing with the Spurs 05 team.
Tried beating current raptors with that team but failed. Superstar in nba2k is still broken. Kawhi is making all his shots.
Tried double teaming Kawhi and fucking Green, Lowry, Gasol, just dropping three point bombs.
And they changed th3 shooting mechanics again..dumbasses.

thats what i figured as well. 38 is a good price but since its from UK, after shipping and tax (not a prime eligible product) its adding up to $49. still a decent deal given what it normally sells for

really? that's them "not fucking around?" bloodborne complete edition was chepaer at the christmas sale half a year ago. you can get dark souls remastered and dark souls 3 deluxe for those prices just about anywhere right now.
the god of war, spiderman, and uncharted deals look great, but i already have those.
Bloodborne Complete Edition is $13.99 in the current PSN Christmas sale. Best game by far on the PS4. Hell, best game released in the last 25 years. There has never been a game with combat this interesting and challenging and it absolutely nails this brutal gothic atmosphere where everyone treats you like a piece of shit. It's such a refreshing change of pace to have boss fights that are really difficult not because the enemy has a huge health bar and can be a bullet sponge but because he's agile or has a long reach or uses the environment intelligently. It's hard but never cheap and even if you're leveled up to 100 you can easily still be killed by random enemies if you get sloppy.
https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP9000-CUSA00900_00-BLOODBORNECOMPLE
Plus the included DLC is amazing too. One of the best DLC I have ever played thanks to a couple of memorable boss fights. This would be a bargain at $100 IMO much less for $14 and I would buy a PS4 even if this was the only good game on it. There has never been a game that better bridged the challenge and sense of accomplishment you got from the games of the 8-bit NES era with the immersive settings and freedom of exploration that defines modern open world games.

Yeah if you want to wait until Black Friday or Christmas just to save $3.50 on Bloodborne. Dying Light The Following Enhanced Edition for $10 is an absolutely unbelievable deal. It's either my third or fourth favorite game this gen (behind Bloodborne and Nier Automata; tough call on it vs Persona 5 for my #3 spot). Nioh Complete Edition for $20 is great. Shadow of the Colossus for $13 is a steal. I only put the Souls games because you said you were looking for that combo pack and this is the complete versions of 1 & 3 for less than what that combo pack sells for (I have heard 2 sucks but haven't played it).

Dying Light The Following Enhanced Edition is fucking crack. It starts off slow but a couple hours in when you start getting good weapons it's such satisfying ultra-violence. Good story too, it's like a bad 1970s B-movie with the ominous music and the film grain. Bloodborne Complete Edition is a must buy too unless you're a filthy casual tbh. Best combat I have ever played in a game. God of War for $20 is another steal of epic proportions. As is Horizon Complete Edition for $10. Nioh Complete for $20 is awesome if you like Souls / Ninja Gaiden style games, but it's not as good as Bloodborne.

I thought Arkham Knight got wildly good reviews on PS4. The only version I remember being badly received was the PC one because Rocksteady farmed it out to a mobile game company of twelve employees who naturally fucked it up so bad Steam had to introduce refunds for games and Arkham Knight for PC had to be pulled from sale for months until Rocksteady got it running acceptably. But the PS4 version was always supposed to be awesome.
Arkham Knight is second best of the series in my opinion after City.
Yeah they make you use the Tumbler a ton but once you get the hand of it you'll love using it. I did not love doing the bomb missions and the subway sequence.

This is really a FPM (Melee) it has guns but they're fucking garbage and just make things harder when the horde shows up to kill you
Also, I recommend playing this one on hard.. It really gives you a sense of dread as you start off because every zombie you run into is a challenge.. When it starts getting dark you already know you gotta get moving because you have no shot against those hunter zombies. After about level 12 though you can feel the shift in power and you'll be slicing heads off no problem. Game is really balanced IMO

but then what parts are good? the combat is purposefully bad, you're supposed to run away, you can't even block like those rais guys can, you basically have to find a cheap way to kill the enemy or you lose, there is no combat.
and the scenery, however good it might be, is moot because you're always running for your life.
I'll admit, the fear of going out at night was a pretty great innovation of the game, that one mechanic makes it a very memorable.
and it's obviously a story driven game, it's definitely not just a "FPS" as you called it

The combat is great after the first couple of hours when you level up and start getting swords and shit. It's definitely clunky very early when you're using pipes and wooden table legs.
I'm nearing the end of the storyline, and it's still a complete mistake to engage enemies (even though it's so tempting). one by one you can jump kill, or drop kick/finish, or stealth kill, or throw/finish, but if you attract a crowd fuhgeddaboudit, and those virals are so FUCKING FUCKING ANNOYING.
since there's not much left to do, I've been trying to take on those demolishers in old town before finishing the game, not having much luck, lost all my survivor points.

So I downloaded another copy, and copied over the .bin folder and fixed it.. :lol I didn't realize how many settings I had turned down because of having the 680 at the time I originally downloaded.. combined with the main texture overhaul and a few .ini tweaks this game looks good as hell. I really didn't like the mods on Witcher 3. The way they messed with the lighting completely changed the entire mood of the game. Graphically I felt the vanilla game was pretty much perfect on PC. Damn you can run full Hairworks on a 1060 though? That shit murdered performance on my 970 (RIP).

Fuck mods.. I only use the yellow filter remover for Touissant and the HD texture overhaul.. all my changes are .ini tweaks.. and yeah full hairworks is a cost of about 5 FPS at 2x AA, if I go to 8x it's like 7-8 and rarely causes any spikes unless you meet up with 5-6 wolves circling you

Yeah, the melee is button mashey. It can really benefit from a chaining system of some type, since often enemies are clustered together, ex, hit them with a freeze bomb, run in/drop down and smoothly take them out, like Arkham/Assassins Creed. Then if you successfully pull off whatever combo number, you get increased resources or something. Traps and the Tripcaster are a lot fun.
Playing on very hard.

I have different ratings standards. These journos and the like give out 9s like candy. 9 and above should be reserved for all-time great games. Only 10 hours in, but my issues so far: Button mashey melee combat, camera can get stuck behind shit, cut scenes too long (though, you can skip them), side missions are fetch quests. Main combat is fun. It's enjoyable to scout out, say, an area of Firebellows and devise a plan to take them out using a combination of traps, tripwire, stealth, and straight up firepower, but battles often descend against the stronger enemies into repeating hit and run tactics over and over. There's just much more potential here. It would be cool if you could turn an overridden Strider into a "Jihad Jeep." Load it up with bombs and then run into it into a big enemy.
Playing on very hard.
Note: These are first impressions and not major complaints by any means.

Do you mean unbalanced in meaning unfair? I wasn't suggesting that, since the game wants you to and rewards you for playing smartly, especially against stronger enemies. I would've just liked to see a more comprehensive melee system where you can pull off combinations of some kind (and they should be "difficult" to execute. A. Creed series melee combo system basically plays itself). Like if you're above a couple of Watchers who are a few feet apart, you can drop kill the first and then roll into a one hit melee kill if you time it correctly.

I like dividing by genre since an rpg and a shmup are obviously out to provide different game play experiences. Off the top of my head:
RPG (I don't have much experience with the genre): Panzer Dragoon Saga, the Witcher 2, Dragon Age: Origins.
Action Adventure: The Guardian Legend, Metroid Prime, Ocarina.
2d beat em up: Streets of Rage 2 (I played a lot of arcade beat em ups, too, and they're too mashey and spastic. SOR2's pace and design just feels right).
3d beat em up: Ninja Gaiden (xbox), Godhand.
FPS: Rainbow Six Original, Battlefield Bad Company 2 for multiplayer.
Turn based strategy: Medieval: Total War.
RTS: Command and Conquer, Homeworld: Cataclysm
Stealth: Hitman: Blood Money, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow.
Action Platformer: Metalstorm, Revenge of Shinobi.
3D platformer: Mirror's Edge
Sandbox: Infamous, Just Cause 2.
Shmup: Lords of Thunder, Gradius 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta for 3d shmups.
Racing: Forza 2, Wipeout XL
Arcade (scoring): Pengo, Defender, Centipede
Fighting: Virtua Fighter 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2

On the to buy list this Summer when it hits like 9.99 during a Steam Summer Sale. Oh, and what other kind of difficulty should a "game" be based around :lol. (Skill can also mean strategic thinking, logical thinking, etc). I don't envy game designers, though. Finding a balanced learning curve that is "just right" for all players is a task. And the difficulty settings often don't work as intended. The lower ones make the game brain dead easy, while the higher ones just turn enemies into bullet sponges, so it doesn't force you into learning the game's system any more comprehensively, just forces you to be more patient in battles.

Sure. But some games have steeper learning curves and more rewarding gameplay than others. I'll take Zero Dawn, an open world game, as you know It at least has a system to learn and load outs to consider, whereas an open world game like GTA is pretty shallow and is really more about exploration, atmosphere (the radio stations, meticulously designed cities, etc), and story/characters. And that's fine. The latter is just to veg out to and cause havoc while driving around and wrecking shit.

Rating a game on a scale of 10 and giving it a 7 is not sayig much about the game, imo.
It's like if you rate a game on a 5 star system and giving it a 2. That's around average to me.
I would have figured Horizon is a game right up your alley. It's not super complex, everything is pretty much straight forward gameplay wise.
For example, a game like the Witcher 3 which is amazing in all facets of what a game should be, it's highly complex and definitely gives you a headache in terms of what direction you want to go and build your skill tree in. It mostly locks you into a branch.

On a 5 star scale, this game would 3.5 from me. That qualifies as a "damn good game." What keeps Horizon, for me, from reaching that "next level," (whatever that is, so you can see how subjective criticism is) is:
- Average melee combat
- Fights descend into roll and attack, rinse/repeat, too often. Sure, you can abuse traps, elemental weapons and tie downs, but it feels a bit cheap when you take down a machine from the bushes with 5 or 6 traps and a couple of well placed bow shots. Related to point one, if the game had a better melee system, it'd be cool to weaken a machine and then finish it off with a melee flourish (and not some quick time garbage or auto combo. Ex. you learn "finishing/heavy combos" that can finish off a machine below a certain number of hit points, but the catch is it's relatively difficult to execute, requiring fighting game like input commands.).
-Animal hunting is redundant. You really don't want to waste time hunting boars and turkeys when you could be hunting machines. I know animals have low hit points, but it just feels like grindy busy work if you need meat, bones, etc. I understand they're doing that to keep consistent with the game world, but they could've tweaked it where you could get everything you need from the machines (i.e. machines that feed on animals. Kill those machines, you get your meat, hides, bones, etc).
-Weapon wheel needs to be 6 way instead of 4 way. If I have a plan to use 5 different weapon types to take out an area, I dislike having to go into the inventory screen to equip the 5th weapon. Ruins the combat flow.
- Some minor annoyances are the camera, not being able to jump up on terrain no taller than you unless there's a "white" marker there, and cut scene heavy at times.
Relatively speaking, this is a fine example of an open world game. I find open world games like Saints Row, Mafia, and even the hallowed GTA series to have significantly more style over substance. I have fun with those games, but they'd get no more than a low 5 from me based on gameplay standards. Gameplay is 90 percent of the equation for me, so great graphics, art design, sound design, story are basically just "icing" and can't turn a game with 5/10 gameplay into an 8/10 game.

- Some minor annoyances are the camera, not being able to jump up on terrain no taller than you unless there's a "white" marker there, and cut scene heavy at times.

the limited weapon wheel frustrated me as well. between the war bow, sharpshooter bow, hunter bow, ropecaster, tripwire, sling, blast sling, rattler, and all the different mods (might want a hunter bow with corruption emphasis, but another with shock emphasis, etc), it felt way too limiting. i think its meant to make you "think strategically" have have a good balanced loadout, but thats never how it actually played out. instead i kept having to shuffle weapon sets based on encounters (take out ropecaster if i'm fighting a stormbird, etc).
so i basically just dumped all my mods into corruption as that one seemed like the best jack of all trades elemental type (for the hunter bow). it felt too limiting
the climbing amounted to "find the yellow thing in the wall" just like uncharted. i much prefer the assassins creed version where you have to look for queues beyond an obvious color sticking out. infamous did a good job with climbing too, as you had to look for actual structural landmarks rather than just a patently yellow brick

You might see them go either the same price or a little less in the Mid-Year Sale next month or the Black Friday Sale, so no rush. They go on sale all the time. The two Tomb Raiders are awesome games though. I haven't played Dark Souls II and it seems to be regarded as the worst game in the series by a lot of Souls fans, but it looks really good IMO and I definitely want to play it.

Indeed. On this point, I think the reason we probably have to use more weapons was because we're playing on very hard. I don't think developers really build the game around that difficulty in mind, so all they do is make the enemies into damage sponges. I was level 24 when I fought the first Thunderjaw. Maybe I was under leveled (recommended level is 27), but it took the fuckin' kitchen sink to take him down. Tear blast the two disk launchers off. Tear blast radar and front cannons off. Freeze him completely (which takes like 6 bombs), hit him with first disk launcher while frozen to deal double. Do that again. Freeze him again. And just spam bombs, precision arrows, or whatever into his exposed heart.
I appreciate protracted battles like this, but it felt "spammy" at times, because it was such a damage sponge. I'm sure the battle has better flow at the lower difficulties.

Shit, the method I know for CFW only works up to CECH-25xx series models. It allows both iso images of blu-rays as well as digital games to be played. I think for anything past CECH-25XX you can only run digital games. It's called PS3Hen or something like that. Corruption arrows are nice. They've improved the overall combat system for me. It's nice to get the machines fighting each other and then tactically pick your spots to do damage, and the tactical approach is where the combat systems shines its best. When you're attacked by multiple enemies at once (ideally, you don't want this to happen, but at the difficulty setting, it's about impossible to tactically take out a group of Snapmaws as Glinthawks fly around without alerting everything in the area) and have to play it like Devil May Cry, the combat just feels spastic and clunky, turning the game into a rolling simulator, while spamming the rope caster.
About 40 hours in and 48 percent complete. All Blazing Suns and just finished the Grave Hoard mission. Still in that 7-7.5 range. Main issue is still the weapon wheel. Not only is it a bit limited, but having to bring it up every second during a heated battle is annoying and ruins the flow, i.e. switch to tearblaster, switch to ropecaster, switch to freeze bombs, switch to sling blast (we can be cheeky again and call it a "weapon switching simulator" when this happens). I'm not criticizing it because I'm taking deaths and the like, I just hate seeing it every half second. Weapon switching should be instant and not clutter up the HUD.
If I were a playtester at GG, I'd suggest maybe try mapping the weapons to the D pad and use the triangle to switch to alt fire, i.e. press right to equip war bow, press triangle to switch to freeze arrows, with nothing popping up on the screen (I understand since bows and slings can have three different elemental types, the binary main/alt wouldn't "work," but I'd say just have a shock/freeze bow, fire/corruption bow, and hard point/standard arrow bow). IIRC, this is how Infamous mapped things. And I think the potions should be on the visible wheel.
Still a fine game. Did you get the Shield Weaver armor? Read it breaks the game.

You'd rather have a $100 crap emulation box than a $150 solution to give you a better picture running real hardware? N64 emulation sucks man, original hardware all the way for that system. The original HDMI mod for the N64 is super hard to find, costs over $200 IIRC, and requires some tricky soldering.

The mele was atrocious. Definitely an afterthought in this game. Another thing they could work on is aftergame content. The replayability is not there.
There is an arena in the game that seemed like a decent lovation for an areana mode.. many suspect the devs took out in order to save for a DLC or a 2nd game. Maybe it wasnt polished enough to add.
Would have been nice to go into arena fighting a rockbreaker, Glinthawks, etc all at once.

Man Persona 5 in Japanese is a really good learning resource for me since it has a huge amount of kanji (even words like 貴方 = anata that are usually written in hiragana are written in kanji) and since I know the story so well I can pick up new words or new kanji from it a lot. Only problem is jotting down all this new shit as I play is going to make this 150 hour game into a 500 hour game. :lol
Funny hearing the different uses of "you" in the game so far:
1. When the cops are beating the shit out of me they keep saying お前 = omae = "oh my" which is really disrespectful. I think it's kind of like "you (asshole)" when between adults.
2. When Lavenza is speaking to me she uses the more polite 貴方 = anata for "you", like it's a professional relationship.
3. When Sae Niijima the prosecutor is interviewing me she uses 君 = kimi for "you" which is kind of a friendly way to say it even though at that part of the story she is interviewing me after being arrested. Kind of weird to see her call me that.

arkham knight is really fucking fun tbh
the free-flow combat does feel very simple or dumbed down after having (relatively) recently played God of War... but there's enough enemy variety to force you do approach situations differently so it keeps you on your toes enough to keep it interest (between brutes, shielded enemies, armed enemies, guys with shock batons, guys with swords, etc)
the batmobile play doesn't compare to the regular stuff, but it hasn't been quite as bad an experience as i had read about, though to be fair i did dump most of my early experience points into batmobile upgrades, to make those long battle sequences less of a chore. the open world is big, but its fun enough to grapnel/glide through it, especially when you get the grapnel upgrades. there's also a really solid amount of side content beyond the main story. its at least as good as asylum/city so far, though i havent really had boss encounters yet (unless you count some of the armored vehicles like those massive drones/choppers). the boss battles in asylum/city were quite fun.

the free-flow combat does feel very simple or dumbed down after having (relatively) recently played God of War... but there's enough enemy variety to force you do approach situations differently so it keeps you on your toes enough to keep it interest (between brutes, shielded enemies, armed enemies, guys with shock batons, guys with swords, etc)
the batmobile play doesn't compare to the regular stuff, but it hasn't been quite as bad an experience as i had read about, though to be fair i did dump most of my early experience points into batmobile upgrades, to make those long battle sequences less of a chore. the open world is big, but its fun enough to grapnel/glide through it, especially when you get the grapnel upgrades. there's also a really solid amount of side content beyond the main story. its at least as good as asylum/city so far, though i havent really had boss encounters yet (unless you count some of the armored vehicles like those massive drones/choppers). the boss battles in asylum/city were quite fun.
Game got a bad rep on release, but I also recall having a lot of fun with it.

The PC version got a bad rep. This game was an instant hit.
Batmobile was the peak of the complaints iirc.

PC port got a well-deserved bad rep thanks to getting farmed out to some crap mobile games studio. Arkham Knight on PC is the entire reason Steam had to introduce refunds and the game got pulled from sale for months until Rocksteady went and did the port themselves. :lol

Yakuza 3 is pretty cool so far. But man is it ever awful graphically being a low budget early PS3 game. Also the localization is weird since for instance everyone goes by their first name when Japanese people usually go by their family names. So it's weird seeing Majima call Kiryu by the name Kazzy (eg for Kazuma) instead of Kiryu-chan (which is what he calls him in the actual voice track and in the PS4 games). I hope Yakuza 4 & 5 have localization more in line with the PS4 games.

I think it needs to be difficult to make it long enough, would be a pretty short game if you just blow through the enemies modern FPS style

If you thought it had potential until running into the retarded early game bs with D:OS2, go play the first one. It doesn't have that retarded armor mechanic, and instead the difficulty is in choosing the correct areas of the map to explore that are appropriate for your level. D:OS2 I had to adjust the difficulty because I couldn't progress w/ shitty teammates and every enemy in armor
yeah I played 1 back in the day, it was pretty good. I vaguely recall screwing up my characters early on in that one too, but was able to barely struggle along until I got them right.

If days gone was a better hit that would be more awesome. But i don’t think I’m ever upgrading to PS4 pro. Will just go straight to ps5 eventually when those go on their first big sale a few years in

What do you think the SNES classic will be worth in the future? Do you think it'll be a desired retro console? Would you pull the trigger on 17 new classics in box for $1,900?:lol

The desired retro console will be the real SNES. Don't buy a box of SNES Classics to hoard thinking they'll get expensive. Tons of people have them and they're not the real thing. They're great though if you're looking for a cheap and easy way to play every SNES and NES game you ever wanted on a modern TV, including the Japanese games.

Tbh I might pull the trigger just because I like them so much. :lol but yeah you're right, especially since emulation is also pretty easy to do these days

Why would you buy 17 systems at $111.76 each? I can go buy one at Gamestop right now for $75.
EDIT: I take it back, can't get one at Gamestop unless I drive to Austin. :lol

I'm trying to go the no kill route, and never spotted by enemies. So I'm hitting that f5 constantly, and usually checking to make sure still 0 kills, but during the last mission I forgot to check near the end. suddenly It shows 2 dead, and I didn't do any real saves since like 10 minutes into the mission

Been playing GTA V on the PC. It's been like 4 years since I last played it on the ps4. I forgot how fun and hilarious this game is
Any of you played any of the Wolfenstein games before? Namely the current gen ones.
I'm thinking of picking the first 2 plus the new one next week. I wanna shoot some fools.

Gotta say Yakuza 3 is a big step down from Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2. At least in the early game. It's so fucking saccharine with Kiryu running an orphanage and Haruka being the one who keeps the place glued together. None of the substories in Okinawa have been interesting and the encounter rate for random streetfights is over the top. I'll keep playing it just to get the story and hope it picks up once I'm back in Tokyo, but damn I hope Yakuza 4-5 are better.

Don't buy any fake mini consoles. The only good mini consoles on the market right now are the NES Classic, SNES Classic, and a Raspberry Pi with Retropie is pretty killer for games not sensitive to a couple of extra frames of input lag. Note the Raspberry Pi 4 just came out a couple of weeks ago and it's quite a bit more powerful than the Raspberry Pi 3B, but Retropie still hasn't been ported to it yet. Also the Genesis Mini is probably going to be really fucking good too considering the team Sega put in charge of it is absolute first rate in their Switch ports. Can't remember the name right off hand, but that's probably going to be a pretty epic mini console too.

Still no idea when Retropie will even work on the Pi4. If you really want a killer PS1 box just buy a hackable PS3 and put CFW on it. CECH-21XX Slim and older can have CFW put on them. Any PS3 fat can have CFW put on it. Also the 120GB and 250GB Slims can, but not the 160GB nor 320GB Slims. No PS3 Super Slim can have CFW put on it.
What makes the PS3 killer for PS1 emulation is it has a built in PS1 emulator and you have a great PS1 wireless controller with the DualShock 3. Though I would buy a 1TB 2.5 inch drive and install that. For instance, this PS3 Slim would be great. Just double check that it's a CECH-20XX or CECH-21XX model.
https://www.gamestop.com/ps3/consoles/playstation-3-system-250gb/108168
Then you could put CFW and play all the free PS1 and PS3 games you want. Though 250GB isn't much, I'd definitely add a 1TB 2.5 inch drive like I said. If you're doing that you could save $10 and get the 120GB model instead:
https://www.gamestop.com/ps3/consoles/playstation-3-system-120gb-slim/113366
Just again double check that it's CECH-20XX or CECH-21XX.
A Raspberry Pi 3 will cost you $50 + cost of controller anyways, so $110 to $120 for a PS3 that can play all PS1, PS3 games as well as a fucking lot of PS2 games is a deal.
Surprisingly a PS2 is actually a pretty shitty way to play PS1 roms even though most PS2 are hardware BC with PS1. Because the hack for PS2 uses the built-in PS1 hardware to either read roms from the hard drive or your network. But if you're into PS2 games a hacked PS2 is super easy to do.
